Jake Day Bought And Paid For

In today's City Council Work Session the new Council majority elected to move forward the "Free EDU Zone" for Downtown Salisbury. They will take the 300 EDU's from the old Linens of the Week property and transfer them to the Downtown Parking Lots for their developer friends.

When you have a National Association of Realtors backing your campaign, this is how you pay them back. I should add, they even decided to GIFT the Rivers Edge project with free EDU's, even though the developer was willing to pay for them in their original proposal.

Now, that being said, I told ALL of you during my campaign, (even though Ireton LIED) that they would be building subsidized housing units on those Downtown Parking Lots and now you have proof. FREE EDU's IS A SUBSIDY.

Taxpayers should be outraged. Is this what non professionals do. They GIVE things away because they can't sell Salisbury to anyone?  No one wants to come here and do you know why, because you have a part time Mayor who is absolutely clueless about business and what it takes to succeed. So what you get in return are a special interest group of people who will take advantage of the taxpayers by purchasing parking lots for five cents on the dollar and develop cheap housing for a lot of money.

I tried to warn everyone this was coming. Put all "Yes Men" in upper management and away you go. I hate to see what Downtown Salisbury properties will be worth in 10 years.

  3. Gimme sum!

I'll invest (not much) in Downtown when you gimme all those freebies! Woohoo! Fire sale! Only way you'll sell Salisbury is to give it away because our mares have told us it ain't worth squat!

  4. Subsidized housing for the central business district is a death sentence for the city, IMHO.

The available parking lots that exist facilitate in & out when one elects to patronize the library, restaurants or other nearby businesses. The parking garage is fine for downtown employees but decidedly unattractive for the trips I mentioned above as it takes too much time to navigate and you are trapped in the structure.

Greed will out and the current council majority & mayor will be dirty words far into the future.

  8. sue 'em joe for devaluating your downtown property.

The renters don't care and the taxpayers can't vote, so as you say it is a lose, lose situation. I'd get out while i could because things are not going to improve. The voters spoke by electing Ireton and Day so what is the need to continue beating a dead horse to death with the same complaint over and over. the fools don't care about your ideas fo a better city.

  11. Brad Gillis is salivating right now. Welcome to Palmertown or Gillisville. Before it's all over the Gillises will own the majority of properties downtown. Look out Rob Mulford, they are going to try to run you right off the river.

  12. 8:07 A EDU is a tool that a female inserts to keep her from getting pregnant. Sometimes they don't work. Salisbury just got screwed with the elections, and they will now have to pay for the abortion.

Don't forget to mention the stairwells in the parking garage smell like piss all the time because the homeless and the drunks use them as their overnight housing and their bathrooms. They are disgusting because you smell the piss and you can see the piss on the concrete. That my friends is a Biohazard and should be blocked off from public use until it is safe. Also the parking garages are very unsafe at night. It is dangerous and you will find more criminals with guns robbing and shooting you if you use the garage. It is dark and a perfect places for criminals to hide out and attack an unsuspecting and innocent citizen. By the way did I mention the crime rate isn't down? This town is doomed and we are the ones that are going to suffer.

  17. All you "do something" people, careful what you wish for.

For years my wife complained we needed to redecorate. "We need to do SOMETHING," she said.

Damn if we - she - didn't "do SOMETHING." I said, "Let's save up for this and that." She said, "No, we need to do SOMETHING now."

I gave in from the nagging. I lived with those ugly purple curtains and most uncomfortable couch for 6 years until we got divorced. Took 4 years to pay off that "SOMETHING!" I can still hear her yelling that "SOMETHING!"

This "SOMETHING" for Downtown is going to cost a ton and please people who like purple curtains. The purple curtain makers will be rich and the novelty will wear off. The purple curtain lovers will move onto lime green and the place will be a hole again.

  20. How did Salisbury get screwed? The voters spoke at the poles. The voters are getting what they wanted. If you all are of a different opinion, where were you before election day? Did you bother to get out and work for your candidate? Did you vote OR are you just an arm chair opinionater who comes out of the woodwork after the fact.

Too late to fight city hall now, You gave the election to Ireton and Day. So live with it, Salisbury has been dead for years. You knew it would continue to be same old - same old if Ireton and Day won. Seems you got what you wanted when all was said and done.

  21. The sad fact about the election is that a national PAC from Chicago bought a council seat. Think about it, never before in our city's history has Salisbury have we seen anything like this. The special interest groups were doing their work arounds of the local contribution cap of $250. AThey bombarded mailboxes, local people with more than ordinary interest in the outcome rented buildings, reportedly for thousands to place signs, watch the chamber forum on PAC 14, sure looks like some "chosen ones" had the answers in time and the special treatment of some candidates (Ireton, Shields & Day) should be an embarrassment tot hat organization. That's how some voters were fooled. It was a constant bombardment of message, even if it wasn't true.
The most disturbing part of this post is the free EDUs for River's Edge. Campbell led the work to get balance that brought a good result to a blighted building without city subsidy. The developers agreed and have a great project. Their financing is lined up. Why in the world would anyone propose to give them EDUs? That's just stupid!

    ReplyDelete
  22. 7:11, Day & Ireton didn't even campaign! They had about 10% of the signs up as Albero and Campbell, who marched door to door talking personally with voters.
The fix was in at 7AM on election day. What happened after that didn't count one iota.

  23. I really wish you wouldn't show Jake in that uniform. He is a disgrace to it!

  26. They were sucessful in Cambridge doing this.

  27. We are not Cambridge. What may work in one town does not always work in another.Cambridge doesn't have a homosexual mayor that exposes themselves in restaurants or city council members that are brought outside interest groups.

    ReplyDelete
  28. subsidized housing like government office buildings should be placed in the worst area of the city, not in the heart of town.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Perdue will now have his workers housed at the Taxpayer expense--allowing Perdue to keep wages low and profits obscenely high! See how it pays to buy a city council seat for one of your executives sons?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Why is it okay to say "person of color" but not "colored person"? Just asking.

    And it's "polls" not "poles".

And you're thinking of an IUD not EDU, whoever that genius was that posted it meant a device to be inserted to prevent pregnancy.

  33. anonymous 12:10, I'm very glad to hear there was a change of heart, yet don't think for a second this isn't just the beginning. That's how liberals work these days. Ireton comes in with a major number, there's a compromise, (always expected and ONLY if I publish the facts) but over time they'll give up the 300+ EDU's. Come on now, you all know how Jim works by now and they'll do whatever it takes to make Jake look like the hero. I'm not buying it.

Unlike a great deal of people who have already died because of apathy and several of them are still voting.

  35. Jake day was never going to be an independent voice. Being brought by special interest groups and being in the back pocket of the mayor He is and always gonna be a yes man. That's all the mayor was hoping for.And these idiots voted Debbie Campbell out someone who did more for the city then the bunch of idiots on the council now

    ReplyDelete
  36. That is the goofiest looking man I have ever seen in my life. He has no clue what he is doing and he always looks to Jim Ireton to pull his puppet strings. Most of the events I see in Salisbury are captured with pictures of Ireton and Day together.

Has he missed any meetings or work sessions yet?

  37. 10:42 I posted the IUD statement as humor, meaning if you are a taxpayer in Salisbury, you'll need to get one because you're about to get screwed. Now do you understand!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Anon 9:32 So your point? We set back and do nothing. Cambridge, Berlin and Easton didn't. This has nothing to do with the Mayor being gay. How many times do you go downtown? How much money do you spend downtown?

  39. I am glad I do not live in city limits. I have seen Mr. Iretons teaching side. Not much to that guy. a real piece of work.

  40. Joe, reading these comments, it's time for a real dialog.

For example, the Daily Times and your article disagree. I would challenge you (in the good way) and all your readers to listen to the audio I keep hearing the city has and see what's what.

Okay, what does "successful" mean? Are all their downtown stores full now? Did someone invest millions? Do they have crowds of people there daily? Or do they just have good PR people? What did Cambridge do with their EDU's to bring this "success."

Talk and talk and talk, but no one has really come up with the FACTS!

As the only real news source in Salisbury (the DT is just a PR publication), you could do a real series on this. Your readers should also get involved and be "citizen reporters" for you.
