Six Poachers Charged by Natural Resources Police

Six poachers were charged in three incidents on Jan. 2 by the Maryland Natural Resources Police.

Officers responded to reports of shotgun pellets hitting homes on Saltmarsh Road off Madison Bay in Dorchester County and charged an adult with four hunting violations.

William Frederick Mcglaughin, 28, of Cambridge, received citations for hunting within a safety zone, having a loaded firearm in a vehicle, hunting with an unplugged shotgun and hunting on private land without written permission. He received a warning for having a second unplugged gun and one for hunting without having his license with him.

Two juveniles were referred to the Department of Juvenile Services for similar violations.

The three waterfowlers said they had been hunting a field and had not shot anything. An officer with a range finder determined that the hunters were between 102 yards and 108 yards from the nearest home.

Mcglaughin will be scheduled to appear in Dorchester District Court. If convicted of all four charges, he could be fined as much as $6,000.

SPORTS Mother of Fallen Soldier Rendered Speechless for Nearly 10 Seconds as She Tries to Process Who Is Suddenly in Her Living Room

It was already a week to remember for Margaret Anderson.

She watched as the Broadway High School football team played in honor of her son, a fallen soldier killed while serving his country in Afghanistan in 2010. Head coach Brad Lutz made it so every year the last game of the season is reserved specifically to honor Army Spc. Brian “Bucky” Anderson, a real hometown hero in the Harrisonburg, Virginia, area.

Little did she know, there was a much bigger surprise in store.

As Anderson spoke with the head coach at her home about the importance of remembering her son and also Brett Favre, her favorite NFL football player, someone snuck into her home.

Statement on President Obama's Proposed Executive Actions on Gun Control

Fairfax, Va. – The executive director of the National Rifle Association's Institute for Legislative Action, Chris W. Cox, released the following statement on Tuesday regarding President Barack Obama's Executive Gun Control Order:

Once again, President Obama has chosen to engage in political rhetoric, instead of offering meaningful solutions to our nation's pressing problems. Today's event also represents an ongoing attempt to distract attention away from his lack of a coherent strategy to keep the American people safe from terrorist attack.

The American people do not need more emotional, condescending lectures that are completely devoid of facts. The men and women of the National Rifle Association take a back seat to no one when it comes to keeping our communities safe. But the fact is that President Obama's proposals would not have prevented any of the horrific events he mentioned. The timing of this announcement, in the eighth and final year of his presidency, demonstrates not only political exploitation but a fundamental lack of seriousness.

Local Officials Travel To N.C. Town To Evaluate Railroad Operation

BERLIN – Local officials remain excited about the prospect of an excursion train in Worcester County following a visit to the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad in North Carolina.

Representatives from Berlin, Snow Hill and Worcester County spent two days in Bryson City, N.C. last week visiting the town and the excursion railroad that reportedly transformed it. The trip, which was funded by Rail Events Incorporated (the company that runs the Polar Express franchise at the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad), left the Eastern Shore residents eager to see the operation set up in Worcester County.

“The visit to Bryson City and the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad was a huge learning experience,” said Merry Mears, Worcester County’s economic development director. “There was much to take in about the business model, passenger experience and the overall impact such an operation can have in an area.”

Mears joined a trio from Snow Hill — Councilman Mike Pruitt, Mayor Charlie Dorman and Economic Development Consultant Michael Day — as well as Town of Berlin staff members Ivy Wells and Laura Allen for the trip to North Carolina.

Day said what surprised him was the sheer number of people the train attracted.

The GOP Brand Is Becoming Toxic

For the last few years, many people have been calling for the formation of a third political party. The latest budget deal demonstrated the error of that thinking: What America really needs is the formation of a second one.

After the deal was announced, the nation was forced to endure yet another round of media-trumpeted “bipartisanship.” Collusion is more like it, and the ones getting colluded against are average Americans who will be underwriting this 2,000-page paean to special interests. One that keeps upping an already unaffordable national debt, and makes a complete mockery of the notion we have at least one party dedicated to smaller, more responsible government. In fact the cheerleaders of this monstrosity ought to be required to answer a simple question:

What’s the compromise position between fiscal solvency and national bankruptcy?

Of course no one will ask such a question because it would force the surrenderist faction of the GOP to explain why they completely ignored the “stop Obama” mandate handed to them by voters in the 2014 mid-term elections. Economics aside, much of that mandate centered on public frustration with the de facto invasion occurring at our southern border. This bill just funded every progressive agenda item that aids and abets that invasion, including illegal alien resettlement programs, and Barack Obama’s constitutionally suspect executive amnesty agenda.

“There is a reason that GOP voters are in open rebellion,” explains Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL). “They have come to believe that their party’s elites are not only uninterested in defending their interests but — as with this legislation, and fast-tracking the president’s international trade pact — openly hostile to them.”

‘Model’ Winterfest Sets New Attendance Record In Ocean City

OCEAN CITY — Near-perfect weather along with summer-like crowds on many weekends during the holidays resulted in a new attendance records for Winterfest this year, Ocean City officials learned on Monday.

While the weather has taken a sudden turn for the worse this week with a return of winter temperatures, many days in late November and through December pushed into the mid-60s and even 70 on some occasions, creating near-perfect conditions for Winterfest, the resort’s signature special event during the holidays. As a result, the crowds came in droves, making the 2015 Winterfest of Lights a record-breaker, shattering most of the figures from 2014, which set a new standard last year.

Last year around 111,000 local residents and visitors came through the gates at Northside Park. This year, however, 126,924 enjoyed the Winterfest tram and all it has to offer, Special Events Director Frank Miller told the Mayor and Council on Monday.

Fact: America Remains a Predominantly Christian Nation

Despite a down-tick in the percentage of the U.S. population identifying as Christian since 2008, America remains a predominantly Christian nation with 94 percent (94%) of those who identify with a religion stating that they are Christian, according to Gallup.

“[A] review of over 174,000 interviews conducted in 2015 shows that three-quarters of American adults identify with a Christian religion, little changed from 2014, but down from 80% eight years ago,” says Gallup.

“About 5% of Americans identify with a non-Christian religion, while 20% have no formal religious identification, which is up five percentage points since 2008.”

No Deaths from Vitamins. Absolutely None.

Safety Confirmed by America's Largest Database

(OMNS, Jan 3, 2016) There were no deaths whatsoever from vitamins in the year 2014. The 32th annual report from the American Association of Poison Control Centers shows zero deaths from multiple vitamins. And, there were no deaths whatsoever from vitamin A, niacin, vitamin B-6, any other B-vitamin. There were no deaths from vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E, or from any vitamin at all.

Zero deaths from vitamins. Want to bet this will never be on the evening news? Well, have you seen it there? And why not?

After all, over half of the U.S. population takes daily nutritional supplements. If each of those people took only one single tablet daily, that makes about 170,000,000 individual doses per day, for a total of well over 60 billion doses annually.

Baltimore Horseshoe Casino hit with federal lawsuit

BALTIMORE (AP) — A federal lawsuit filed against Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore claims contracts for the construction of the casino were not sufficiently awarded to minority businesses, even though the project received federal housing funds earmarked for that purpose.

The Daily Record of Baltimore reports (http://bit.ly/1SxhYpB) the complaint was filed Thursday by Celestial Concrete Inc., the Maryland Business Clergy Partnership and an unnamed individual. The plaintiffs say rather than providing contracting opportunities for minority businesses and training and employment for low-income individuals — as required by the U.S. Housing & Urban Development Department for recipients of the funding — the city fraudulently received the funds.

Go Inside the Grounds at the Armed Wildlife Refuge Standoff in Oregon

The Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in rural, eastern Oregon, is closed until further notice, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service says, amid an occupation of the federally owned land by armed militia members.

The refuge is remote; located 30 miles outside the nearest town of Diamond, Oregon.

The militia members set up a roadblock there this weekend and two armed members manned a guard tower that is usually used to spot wildfires. But there was no sign of law enforcement in the area, and local police said they had no intention of going to the scene, not even to keep watch on the militia.

The protest began Saturday as a rally in support of two local ranchers who reported to prison on Monday for arson. The two men were convicted of setting fires on lands managed by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

After the rally Saturday, armed militia initiated the occupation of the headquarters of the wildlife refuge.

Here's a closer look inside the remote property:

Illegal Aliens Use Fake Puerto Rican Birth Certificates to Get U.S. Passports, Licenses

As if the country’s monstrous immigration crisis weren’t dire enough, an increasing number of illegal aliens are using fake Puerto Rican birth certificates to obtain authentic U.S. passports and driver’s licenses.

Located about 1,000 miles southeast of Florida, Puerto Rico became a U.S. territory about two decades after the Caribbean island was acquired from Spain at the end of the Spanish-American war. Puerto Ricans are American citizens at birth though they don’t have the right to vote in federal elections and the island has only one non-voting representative in Congress.

In recent years a record number of Puerto Ricans have left their troubled island for the U.S. and a big chunk has settled in Florida. A few months ago a study found that the island’s ongoing economic recession has led to a mass exodus not seen in more than five decades. In 2014 alone 84,000 people left Puerto Rico for the U.S. mainland, the study found. One recent news report referred to the Puerto Rican crisis as an economic exodus that could push two-thirds of its population to live in the U.S. The island has an eye-popping $73 billion debt, a collapsing healthcare system and nearly half of its population living in poverty.

It’s fair to say that, for years, Uncle Sam has welcomed Puerto Ricans with open arms and that has created lots of opportunities for fraud. There has been a rise in the number of cases involving the use of false Puerto Rican birth certificates by illegal immigrants, according to a south Florida newspaper report that focuses on the specifics of a recent case. It involves an illegal alien from Colombia arrested in Florida after trying to get a U.S. passport by claiming to be an American citizen born in Puerto Rico. The 35-year-old man, Edinson Canaveral Sánchez, used a fake Puerto Rican birth certificate to get a valid Florida driver’s license more than three years ago.

'When white people get mad we condemn talk radio'

Radio host Rush Limbaugh ripped media coverage of a new NBC poll showing white people to be the “angriest” Americans.

The conservative media star said predominantly white groups are held to a different standard when they appear upset with government overreach, societal trends and injustice.

“There’s no reason whatsoever white people should ever be mad. And if you are, there’s something wrong with you and we’re gonna get to the bottom of it and probably find out you listen to talk radio,” Limbaugh said Tuesday.

“But when they’re looting and rioting in Baltimore, St. Louis, stand back. When they’re blowing up the World Trade Center we’re supposed to stand back and understand the rage and ask ourselves what are we doing that makes them so mad. But not when white people get mad. When white people get mad we condemn talk radio, we condemn white people and so forth. Very, very inconsistent.”

The NBC News/Survey Monkey/Esquire online poll released Sunday showed the following:
  • 54 percent of whites said they are angrier now than one year ago.
  • 43 percent of Latinos and 33 percent of blacks were angrier now than one year ago.
  • 73 percent of whites are angry at least once per day.
  • 66 percent of Hispanics and 56 percent of blacks are angry once per day.
  • 61 percent of Republicans are angrier now than one year ago.
  • 42 percent of Democrats are angrier now than one year ago.
Limbaugh said media coverage of white anger is liberal activism masquerading as objective reporting.

Reuters: Lawsuits Ready To Shut Down Executive Gun Control

On January 3, Reuters reported that Freedom Watch will be filing a lawsuit against Obama’s executive gun control as soon as it’s issued.

The two central tenets of the executive gun control under consideration are an expansion of background checks to cover more private gun sellers and more reporting requirements for federally licensed firearms dealers.

According to Reuters, Freedom Watch is approaching Obama’s executive action on guns the same way his executive action on illegal immigrants was approached. They will file suit and seek to stop the implementation of the executive gun controls based on their conviction that Obama “lacks the authority to change the legal definition of who must obtain a dealer’s license.”

And Freedom Watch will “almost certainly” not be alone. Gun rights groups are also expected to file suits to stop Obama’s actions on the grounds that he has no authority to take them.

Reuters believes Obama might avoid lawsuits only by issuing executive orders that are “advisory” in nature rather than binding. “This would be advisory and lack the force of law, which would mean that prosecutors could not rely on it when pursuing small gun dealers.”

Congrats to Baltimore on breaking their all time murder record

It’s been a banner year in Charm City… provided you happen to own a funeral home. Just as we are being assured that crime is coming under control (which it is in many areas outside of the inner cities) the citizens of Baltimore report that they’ve broken the all time per capita murder record for a single year. And the telling part of the statistic is that they managed the feat almost entirely after the Freddie Gray riots. (Baltimore Sun)
Blood was shed in Baltimore at an unprecedented pace in 2015, with mostly young, black men shot to death in a near-daily crush of violence.
On a per-capita basis, the year was the deadliest ever in the city. The year’s tally of 344 homicides was second only to the record 353 in 1993, when Baltimore had about 100,000 more residents.
The killings were on pace with recent years in the early months of 2015 but skyrocketed after the unrest and rioting of late April. In five of the next eight months, killings topped 30 or 40 a month.

Ocean City Concludes National Search, Hires New City Manager

OCEAN CITY, MD – (January 6, 2016): After a national search which yielded dozens of applicants, the selection of the next city manager in Ocean City has been made. In a unanimous vote, the Ocean City Council approved the hiring of Douglas Miller as the new City Manager, who will begin his position with the town on February 8.

Miller comes to Ocean City from Aberdeen, MD, where he has held the position of City Manager since 2006. Serving municipalities in Maryland for the length of his career, he also held town manager positions in La Plata and Snow Hill. A credentialed manager with the International City and County Management Association (ICMA), Miller has also served as president, vice president and secretary treasurer of the Maryland City and County Management Association, as well as several committees of the Maryland Municipal League.

With a desire to return to the Eastern Shore, Miller intends to use his prior experience and professional knowledge to return to where he started his municipal career. “I somewhat began my career in Ocean City, as then City Manager Tony Barrett and Kathy Mathias helped me break into the business,” Miller said. “I have had the pleasure of working with many people from Ocean City in different capacities over the years and have always been impressed by their professional capability and attitude toward public service. I’ve always had a special kindship to Ocean City and I’m thrilled to accept the unique opportunity to manage the needs of our residents and visitors.”

Miller, who has a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Baltimore, is a firm believer in strategic planning, with strong knowledge of Maryland government. “Doug’s background made him the ideal choice for the position of city manager,” commented Ocean City Council President Lloyd Martin. ”He is familiar with Maryland government and has experience in both tourism and emergency management. He has improved the financial position of each municipality he has worked and values customer service. We believe he will be a strong leader, a team player and we look forward to his arrival and the beginning of a bright new era in Ocean City.”

White House Blames Congress for Obama Action on Guns

President Obama is issuing new gun regulations on his own because Congress refuses to act, the White House said Monday.

White House press secretary Josh Earnest said Mr. Obama’s pending executive actions, which are expected to expand background checks on gun purchases, are being taken because “Congress has utterly failed in their responsibility.”

“There are steps Congress can take that would not undermine the basic constitutional rights of law-abiding Americans,” Mr. Earnest said. “But Congress has refused.”

Reporter Hammers Trump On Extra-Marital Affair… ‘The Donald’ Gives Unexpected Reply

Republican front-runner Donald Trump came under fire from a bold reporter who sat inside his private jet on Tuesday and asked one very pointed question.

“You’ve gone after former president Bill Clinton for his infidelity, are your own personal indiscretions fair game in this campaign?” the reporter asked.

This was most likely in reference to Trump’s affair with his eventual second wife, Marla Maples, while he was still legally married to his first wife, Ivana Trump.

Trump shut the reporter down in epic fashion.

“Yes, they would be,” he said.

Trump then turned the whole situation around saying, “Frankly, Hillary brought up the whole thing with ‘sexist,’ and all I did was reverse it on her because she’s got a major problem, happens to be right in her house.

Gun sales, stocks soar

President Obama’s move to tighten gun restrictions follows a string of high-profile shootings and surging sales of firearms — and some experts believe Tuesday’s executive action will only heighten demand.

Gun manufacturers have seen their stocks climb in recent days as sales pick up.

Shares of Smith & Wesson jumped 11 percent Tuesday, to $25.86, when the president unveiled his new plan for expanding background checks on gun sales, while Sturm, Ruger & Co.’s stock climbed nearly 7 percent, to $65.54.

For gun-rights groups, the numbers serve to validate a long-running joke within the industry: Obama is the gun salesman of the year.

“President Obama has single-handedly done more to promote gun ownership than anyone else,” said Erich Pratt, executive director of the Gun Owners of America.

“Gun owners are concerned, and they should be,” Pratt continued. “We see people running to gun stores to buy firearms and ammunition.

Organic Farmers Are Pushing For ‘GE-free’ Zones

Jackson County, Oregon, has just joined the small but growing ranks of “GE-free zones” in the U.S., which prohibit the cultivation of genetically engineered (GE) crops. It’s at least the eighth county in the country to create such an ordinance, and efforts are springing up to pass similar measures in other places.

The Jackson County designation was made final on Dec. 22, when a federal judge approved a consent decree protecting the zone. The ordinance was originally passed in May 2014 by the voters of Jackson County, but was challenged in court by two GE alfalfa farmers, who argued that it violated Oregon state law. The challenge was rejected by a federal judge in May, and a court-approved settlement — which upholds the GE-free zone, but allows the alfalfa farmers to keep their crop for the remainder of its useful life — was finally approved in December.

Genetic engineering — especially as it relates to the food system — remains a hot-button issue in the U.S., with a primary concern among members of the public being the safety of GE products in terms of their impacts on public health and the environment.

But when it comes to GE-free farming zones, the concern is largely an economic one. The goal of creating the zones, according to proponents, is to protect non-GE crops from contamination with modified product — a risk they argue has become a threat to the livelihood of traditional and organic farmers.

The Delusional Self-Importance of the Liberal Media

I have long marveled at liberals’ air of superiority and lack of self-reflection, which have always been particularly evident among liberal media elites and journalists. They tend to view themselves as sacrosanct and above scrutiny.

Perhaps this attitude sprang from the British and, later, American tradition that the press is the Fourth Estate. It doesn’t just serve to inform the people and make them better contributors to the democratic process. It is the virtual fourth branch of government, operating as a watchdog on the formal branches to further check their potential abuses of power.

It is a heady concept to believe you function to keep the powerful in check. It is even more so when no one has ever told you that you, too, need to be kept in check. As a result, some journalists seem to believe that what they do is so important that nothing will deter them from ambitiously exposing to the public every titillating morsel of information, even if that information might unnecessarily harm people or the national interest. To some of the most self-righteous among them, catering to the public’s “right to know” is like an unbending religious ritual that transcends every other value in the universe and justifies the vomiting of all information, no matter its actual value to the public or its likelihood of gratuitously harming others.

If you’ve ever watched a panel interview of major-network talking heads, you have heard their professions that they have a crucial role in keeping our government honest. That’s fine as far as it goes, but it is rarely tempered by humility and an awareness that they, too, are capable of corruption and vulnerable to the trappings of power. They are astonished that anyone would ever question their noble character and honorable intentions. It is as if they are saying, “As to the dissemination of news, we are gods, and gods do not need oversight.”

You could especially see their indignation at the rise of the alternative media — e.g., conservative talk radio, Fox News Channel, blogs, other Internet news sources and conservative speech on a variety of social media platforms. Surely, you’ve seen some of the major news media figures of yesteryear shaking their heads in consternation over the lack of proper journalistic processes in the alternative media, which, they contend, has resulted in sloppy and biased reporting.

Honorable mentions: Azealia Banks, Michael Bloomberg, Warren Buffet, Lincoln Chafee, Stephen Colbert, Lena Dunham, Keith Ellison, Rahm Emanuel, Luis Gutiérrez, Marie Harf, Jesse Jackson, Jeh Johnson, Sally Kohn, Loretta Lynch, Rachel Maddow, Bill Maher, Bill Nye, Melissa Harris Perry, Jorge Ramos, Geraldo Rivera, Seth Rogen, Salon, George Soros, Al Sharpton, Quentin Tarantino

20) John Kerry: Like his predecessor, Hillary Clinton, Kerry has been habitually ineffective as Secretary of State. But even Hillary Clinton didn’t respond to a terrorist attack in Paris by taking James Taylor there to sing “You’ve Got a Friend.”

Defining Tweet: “John Kerry brought James Taylor to Paris to sing ‘You’ve got friend’ to the French people. Haven’t they suffered enough?” –Jon Justice

19) Al Gore: This is a banner year for our old pal Al Gore because almost ten years ago, Al Gore said we had ten years left to save the planet. January 25th is D-Day for Al’s prediction and….well, nothing of significance has changed since then. Even Al hasn’t changed because he’s still making tons of money hawking global warming silliness.

Defining headline:Al Gore: Spend $90 Trillion To Ban Cars From Every Major City In The World

18) Bernie Sanders: Hey, comrade, get off Bernie Sanders’ lawn and take your damn capitalism with you!

Defining quote:“Bernie Sanders thinks you can pay for an 18 trillion dollar expansion of the welfare state — to make it align with a Denmark that doesn’t actually exist — simply by taxing ‘the billionaire class.’ There are 536 billionaires in America. Even if you confiscated everything they had — which, by the way, would surely destroy the American economy by triggering the greatest round of capital flight in human history and amount to government seizure of countless businesses — it wouldn’t come close to covering the tab of Sanders’s proposals.” — Jonah Goldberg

Once again, you can read it all here.

White House Refuses to Explain Delay in Iran Sanctions

A White House spokesman on Monday declined to say why the Obama administration changed course and decided to delay sanctioning Iran for its illegal ballistic missile tests, but also rejected the idea that the sanctions were delayed because of pressure from Tehran.

"Ultimately we will impose those financial penalties, we'll impose those sanctions, at a time and place of our choosing, when our experts believe that they will have maximum impact," White House spokesman Josh Earnest said on Monday. "And those decisions are not subject to negotiation by the Iranians — or anybody else for that matter."

The administration was expected to levy new sanctions on companies and individuals involved in Tehran's ballistic-missile program on Wednesday but then on Thursday did an about-face.

SHERIFF: IF YOU BREAK INTO A HOME IN MY COUNTY, EXPECT TO BE SHOT

"Forcing your way into an occupied residence is a bold and foolish decision”

A sheriff in Florida recently upheld the right of homeowners to shoot burglars, in yet another pro-gun story you will not see covered by the mainstream media.

During the early morning hours of Saturday, an armed intruder made the mistake of breaking into an armed residence in Lakewood.

24-year-old Chevez Antwann Faison “fired shots at two people inside,” according to My News 13.com. “He was then shot and killed by the homeowner.”

Following the incident, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd expressed strong support for the right of homeowners to defend their property, and discouraged future home invaders by warning they will be shot.

Gallup: Only 2% Say 'Guns/Gun Control' Among Nation's Most Important Problems

(CNSNews) - As President Obama prepares to announce new executive actions on gun control Monday, a newly released Gallup Poll shows that "guns/gun control" ranked near the bottom of Americans' most pressing concerns in 2015.

In fact, guns/gun control ranked 19th out of 23 top problems facing the country last year.

According to Gallup, only one percent of respondents mentioned guns/gun control as a concern for most of the months in 2015, although mentions spiked to 7 percent in October and December following mass shootings in those months that dominated the news. (The overall average for the year was 2 percent.)

Americans were most likely to mention some aspect of the federal government in 2015 when asked to name the country's top problem.

FEC Commissioner: Harry Reid Wants Use of 'Slush Fund' to Help Him Retire

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid wants the Federal Election Commission to create an exemption that would allow him to spend $600,000 in unspent campaign and PAC funds on personal matters as he retires from office, the Washington Examiner reports.

FEC Commissioner Lee E. Goodman labeled the funds an "administrative slush fund" as the extraordinary request was made, the Examiner reports.

The Nevada Democrat wants to use the funds "to close out his offices and aid his shift to becoming a former public official still intent on influencing the nation's agenda," the Examiner's Paul Bedard reports.

Reid wants to hire a full-time assistant to help in this effort. Part of the assistant's duties would be to "schedule and organize appearances in which Senator Reid will discuss his tenure in office," a draft of an advisory opinion submitted to the FEC by the commission's general counsel on Dec. 15 states.

"This issue of personal use vexes us," FEC commissioner Goodman said at an open meeting on Dec. 17, the Examiner reports.

Democrat commissioner Ann Ravel defended the request during the open meeting, the Examiner reports.

Reid has been in trouble with the commission over the personal use of campaign funds in the past.
