Md. Group Pushing Overhaul Of State-Owned Vending Machines

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — A quick snack can lead to bad habits and bad health in your children. Now there’s a push to change what you can buy in vending machines.

Ava-Joye Burnett explains the proposed changes.

A Maryland group believes obesity and diabetes among kids have reached epidemic levels, but tackling the types of food in vending machines could make all the difference.

Vending machines are usually the go-to place for snacks, but an organization called Sugar Free Kids Maryland says what’s in most vending machines is bad.

They want to change that–an effort to prevent chronic diseases in kids.

  3. That's quite a can-of-worms you've opened up there, "..most people aren't smart enough to make good decisions..". And, why do you suppose that is 6:27pm?
Is it inherited or genetic, or is it our educational system/s, or is the family atmosphere at it's root? Is it apathy or drug induced, or non-conformance? A combination of, or none-of-the-above?

  4. All of the above. Starts with parents or lack of, no reinforcement of the need to be educated, apathetic parents that feed children happy meals rather than home cooked meals and socio-economic factors. Poor peopler tend to have less education and unhealthy lifestyles. Look at statistics on education and cigarette smokers. Wealthier people tend to have more education, value the importance of becoming educated, exercise, eat healthier foods and avoid risky behaviors. It's not rocket science. Put good things in your body, exercise and live longer.
