GIANT AMERICAN FLAG SPOTTED LAYING ON THE GROUND BEFORE OBAMA UNIVERSITY EVENT [UPDATE: SCHOOL APOLOGIZES, REMOVES PICTURE, THEN BACKTRACKS]

Today, President Obama is slated to travel to the University of Iowa to campaign in the crucial battleground state. The Obama campaign’s “advance team” has been making preparations for the president’s appearance since Monday, sources at the university tell TheBlaze.
But no one was prepared for the photo that was taken at the Obama speaking location as the Democratic National Convention wrapped up in Charlotte, N.C.

PRESIDENTIAL POLLS, ISRAEL, AND IRAN'S NUCLEAR AMBITION

As the Romney-Ryan ticket inches ahead in the polls, one of the little noticed implications just may be the avoidance, at least for a time, of World War III.

World War III? How does that work?
According to high-level U.S. intelligence sources, Israel will likely unilaterally launch a preemptive strike on Iran’s nuclear enrichment facilities and is basing the timing of that strike, in part, on the U.S. presidential election. Sources say Israel is more likely to consider delaying the strike until spring if they are optimistic that there will be a leadership change in Washington.

Food Stamps: Fat Times For Food Companies, Recipients in $72B Program

Who's getting fat off food stamps?

A record number of Americans—46.7 million, or nearly 1 in 7--now uses the food stamp program, according to the Department of Agriculture. The annual cost of SNAP (the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, as the food stamp program is officially known) hit $72 billion last year, up from $30 billion four years earlier.

SNAP's swelling size and cost have earned it fresh scrutiny from critics, who say SNAP is making two different constituencies fat—big corporations and the poor—the first, figuratively; the second, literally.

Circus of the Vagina-gogues

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Hide your children. This is what the progressive left's idea of women's empowerment looks like: For the past two weeks, radical feminists from the group Code Pink have paraded across the fruited plain in giant female reproductive organ costumes.
The goal is "respect" for women's bodies and women's abortion rights. It's part of the coordinated campaign to fight the right's purported "war on women." The Vagina Puppets' Democratic Party sympathizers, from professional birth control freeloader Sandra Fluke to first lady Michelle Obama, dog-whistled the same messages of "choice" and "freedom" from the convention stage.

Survey Shows 74 Percent Increase in U.S. Mosques in Past Decade

A survey conducted by a coalition of religious organizations shows that the number of mosques in the United States has grown by 74 percent in the past 11 years – up from 1,209 in 2001 to 2,106 in 2011.
The statistics were released earlier this year by Faith Communities Today (FACT), which is affiliated with the Hartford Seminary’s Hartford Institute for Religion Research.
The survey also reveals where those mosques exist, including the 10 states with the largest number of mosques – New York (257), California (246), Texas (166), Florida (118), Illinois (109), New Jersey (109), Pennsylvania (99), Michigan (77), Georgia (69) and Virginia (62).

Chicago Braces For First Teacher Strike In A Generation

CHICAGO (Reuters) - A bitter dispute between unionized public school teachers and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has residents of the third-largest U.S. city bracing for a possible strike on Monday in a showdown over education reform that has national implications.
Nearly 30,000 public school teachers and support staff represented by the Chicago Teachers Union have vowed to walk off the job starting at 12:01 a.m. on Monday if an impasse in contract talks with the city is not broken.
Emanuel, a former White House chief of staff to President Barack Obama and a speaker at the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday, has made reform of Chicago's troubled public schools a top priority. Emanuel cut short his trip to the convention in Charlotte to deal with the teacher crisis.

New Volunteer Group Will Help Disabled Adults

BERLIN -- On Tuesday, Aug. 7, a dozen people from around Worcester County met and formed the Friends of WCDC, a group dedicated to helping further the mission of the Worcester County Developmental Center (WCDC).

For 38 years, WCDC has been providing employment opportunities, day habilitation training and residential services to adults who live with an intellectual disability in Worcester, Wicomico and Somerset counties.

In September of 2007, a fire destroyed the WCDC buildings in Newark. The program survived for three years in temporary housing in Snow Hill while a new facility was constructed on the original site in Newark. The new building opened on Jan. 3, 2011, with new programs including a commercial laundry facility, assembly and repackaging rooms and a catering hall.

THIS 1 FACTOR COULD CUT CHILD POVERTY 82%

A new study released just this week by The Heritage Foundation   reveals that one factor alone can reduce by 82 percent the probability that a child lives in poverty – whether Mom and Dad are married to each other.
“Policymakers on the state and national levels recognize that education reduces poverty, but they’re largely unaware that marriage is an equally strong anti-poverty weapon,” Robert Rector, senior research fellow in domestic policy at the Washington-based organization, said of the results.

Judge Orders Accused Texas Base Gunman To Shave Or Be Shaved

SAN ANTONIO (Reuters) - A U.S. military judge on Thursday ordered the Fort Hood massacre suspect, Army Major Nidal Hasan, to shave or be forcibly shaved, ruling that his beard is not covered by federal laws protecting religious freedom.

Colonel Gregory Gross ruled following a hearing that Hasan's attorneys failed to prove he has grown the beard, which he has worn since June, for religious reasons. Hasan, 41, has said he grew the beard in line with the beliefs of his Islamic faith, and that it is part of his free exercise of religion.

The San Antonio Express-News reported that Hasan's military defense lawyer, Lieutenant Colonel Kris Poppe, said in court that the defendant had tried to plead guilty last month, a sign that he wanted to "to be accountable" for his actions.

OBAMA MINIONS: GOV'T 'CAN OVERRIDE YOUR RELIGION'

The Obama administration today argued in court that the government can make a requirement that violates religious beliefs and that a company cannot reflect the religious faith of its owners.
The administration’s statements came in a court filing that asserts the federal government has the authority to order private companies to provide abortifacients for their employees.
A case against the order was brought by the Thomas More Law Center on behalf of Legatus, the nation’s largest organization of top Catholic business leaders, and Weingartz Supply and its owner.

Maryland Dems Insist Conventions Are Worth All The Fuss And Bother — And Money

Hoopla, hooch and horse manure are all in abundance at conventions of either political party. But why do thousands of people spend all that time, effort and millions of their own money and taxpayer dollars to come together every four years for an extended infomercial? Experienced Democratic politicos from Maryland who’ve been to as many as a dozen national political conventions say they’re worth the expense.

FDA Approves Cancer Treatments Much Faster

The Food and Drug Administration is approving cancer treatments at a faster rate than other new drugs. Tufts University found FDA takes 10 months less to approve oncology drugs than others. Researchers said a smoother regulatory process has cut six months out of the process for drug makers compared with a decade ago. But they found that for non-cancer drugs the FDA takes longer than its European counterparts. The EU approves those drugs in about two-thirds of the time than it takes the FDA.

Kellie Pickler's shaved head: Cancer patients get the message

Kellie Pickler shaved her head this week in a sign of solidarity with a close childhood friend facing cancer, and to raise awareness about early prevention of the disease. But the country singer might not know how many other cancer patients were moved by her gesture.
Cancer patients endure a particular kind of hell when they lose their hair, said Nancy Lumb of Chevy Chase, Md. For many -- especially women -- it's the single hardest part of their battle.
Lumb should know. She never cried when she was diagnosed with breast cancer four years ago. She stayed strong when she had to tell her husband, her friends and her family about the diagnosis. She bravely faced a lumpectomy, four months of chemo and 33 rounds of radiation treatment.

Hackers Claim They Have Romney Tax Returns

Mitt Romney won't release his tax returns, but hackers might do it for him. An unidentified group of hackers are claiming they've obtained Mitt Romney's tax returns after an elaborate heist at the Tennessee offices of financial firm PriceWaterhouseCooper. The group says it has sent thumb-drives with Romney's tax return information to local Democratic and Republican Party offices. The Republican Party executive director in Williamson County, Tennessee did confirm receiving the drive, but has not commented on whether it actually contains Mitt Romney's tax returns. The hacker group is demanding one million internet currency units from Romney by September 28th – or else they will publicly release the tax returns.

Berlin Residents Frustrated By Constant Flooding

BERLIN -- Yesterday’s torrential downpours across the region only exacerbated an already dicey flooding problem in Berlin as streets flooded and water rose well past the comfort level in some neighborhoods.

In late August, a historic storm ravaged Berlin, flooding streets, washing cars off the roadway and depositing several feet of water in homes in some neighborhoods. Just two days later, Berlin officials addressed concerns of residents about the town’s chronic flooding problems and promising there was a long-range plan in place to address the issue.

On Thursday, soaking rains fell over Berlin for much of the day, causing extensive flooding in the usual trouble spots. Berlin crews were seen in some areas pumping flood water with heavy equipment and clearing drains clogged with leaves and debris in other areas. In at least one community, however, help never came.

The Eurozone Crisis Is Going Critical

A new report by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development warned that the German economy could sink into a recession during the second half of this year. Germany's is the biggest economy in the Eurozone, and has largely been spared from the debt crisis that is dragging other nations like Greece, Portugal, Spain, and Italy into economic ruin. But this report suggests that it's just a matter of time before Germany, too, starts to go under – signaling that the Eurozone crisis is reaching a new stage – where even the strong can't survive. News of Germany's woes comes on the heels of a decision by the European Central Bank to buy bonds in struggling Eurozone nations to ease the debt crisis. From the get-go, the Eurozone was a bad idea proposed by transnational corporate interests that thought doing business with a single currency would be more profitable. Now, with the Eurozone collapsing – it's not the corporate interests that will suffer, but instead working people across Europe.

New D.C. Statehood Plan: Strategize With Puerto Rico?

D.C. officials have bandied about a number of strategies in recent months to increase the city’s voting rights in Congress or achieve statehood, but one stands above the rest in terms of novelty — strategize with Puerto Rico.
Voters in the island territory are scheduled to decide on Nov. 6 whether they want to remain an unincorporated U.S. territory or not. In a second question, voters are asked to choose from three alternatives: statehood, complete independence or “nationhood in free association” with the United States.
A pro-statehood vote would only indicate popular support for the idea before it goes to Congress.

I AM?

Joe, you're amazing

From: Michelle Obama
To: Joe Albero
Date: Fri, Sep 7, 2012 2:33 pm

Joe, thank you for an amazing week.

Barack and I felt your energy up there.

But we can't let that energy fade -- because in just 60 days, voters will decide who gets to serve in the White House for the next four years. So every single one of us has got to pull together to finish strong.

I know you feel the urgency: Already this week, supporters like you have made more than 500,000 grassroots donations to build this campaign. So if you're fired up, let's keep it going -- let's see how many people we can get to show their support by the end of the day.

Can you chip in $5 or more to stand with Barack today?

Barack's got something that the other side doesn't: more than 3 million grassroots supporters like you -- and together we're going to win this election the right way.

The donation you give today will make a big impact in the final stage of this race. And on November 7th, you can wake knowing that you did everything you could to help us deliver on the full promise of the next four years.

Make this our biggest week yet, and give $5 or more right now to win this election in the final two months:

Thank you,

Michelle

Dear Michelle,

I'm so pleased you felt my energy. In 60 days you will feel it even more, start packing. It's time America got a vacation, instead of the Obama's.

We Need To Stop The “Just-A-Mom” Routine

Why do leaders like Michelle Obama need to resort to "momism" in order to appeal to women?

Left-Wing Lawyer Who Founded The Modern Buckley-Based Conservative Movement Defends Obama

The most famous defection from the Buckley wing of the conservative movement was Garry Wills. That was in the late 1960s. But there was another, less famous: a lawyer who reversed course in the 1990s.

Yesterday, I received an email from him. It was a response to my article on Obama.

I am an attorney licensed in both the District of Columbia and Texas. I am admirer of your daily writings, many of which I find invaluable.

However, my research indicates that the two Obamas properly and voluntarily surrendered their Illinois law licenses upon his being elected President. Had they not done so they would have been subject to criticism.

They were not sanctioned in any way by the Illinois Bar.

If they had done anything wrong while practicing law before his being elected in 2008, don’t you think the Republicans on the House and Senate Judiciary Committees would be howling to the moon about it? Their silence on the issue speaks volumes about the truth of the matter.

This is a classic lawyer’s final statement to the jury, presented by a lawyer who is clearly losing his case. It contains a desperation move, one deliberately calculated to deceive the jury.

Phony Intimacy

Mrs. Obama was praised for reporting in her speech at the Democratic National Convention that President Obama takes his mission to be a personal one, that he treats the citizenry intimately, attending to the private problems of citizens.

Actually, it is a very bad thing that Mr. Obama treats his role as president of the USA as a personal one. It is not. He is supposed to be guarding the basic public ideas and ideals of the country and not attending to people's personal affairs.

Personalizing politics is the road to totalitarianism − it tends to make one into a micro-manager of everyone's life in the country. Not only is that a futile effort but it is utterly insulting to the citizenry, as if we couldn't deal with our challenges without the president's meddling in our affairs. It leads to the strong arm policies of a Stalin, the practices of police states in which the government takes the role of micro-managing the country's population. That is the way of the police as bully, not as peacekeeper.

The American Founders understood that a free country isn't the laboratory of master politicians − czars, monarchs, Caesars, etc.

Obama doesn't get, or more likely doesn't like, it!

Why The Student Loan Bubble Is Much Worse Than It Looks

America is increasingly aware that the student loan bubble is a major problem for millions of students, families, and our nation as a whole. While far too many politicians from both sides of the aisle talk in platitudes about the need for education, few if any of these politicians are willing to pull back the cover and expose the ugly reality embedded in current data on the student loan bubble.

Yes, America knows that total student debt now exceeds all other forms of consumer debt. We also know that total student debt is now approaching $1 trillion dollars. I personally believe that the cost of education at public and private colleges and universities has to adjust downward but that reality does not appear imminent.

What don’t we know about student debt and how will it hurt us? Let’s navigate.

Anderson Cooper: Debbie Wasserman Schultz In An 'Alternate Universe'

Earlier today, the Democrats rushed in a couple of new amendments to the official party platform to acknowledge God and to say that Jerusalem should be recognized as the capital of Israel.

The vote to insert the new amendments was close, and though they technically needed 2/3rds approval from the floor, the amendments were approved with support that observers thought was significantly less.

That prompted boos on the floor... not what you want at a big convention for your party.

Democratic Congresswoman (and perpetual controversy magnet) Debbie Wasserman Schultz was asked about what happened, and she denied that there was any discourse, or that anything had really changed.

When the interview (which was awkward) ended, and the shot went back to Anderson Cooper (in studio at CNN) his only reply was that she must be in an alternate universe.

FIVE NC DELEGATES DITCH OBAMA NOMINATION VOTE

In a sign of how unpopular President Barack Obama is becoming in North Carolina, five North Carolina delegates did not show up to the Democratic National Convention to cast votes for Obama's nomination.

North Carolina cast 152 votes for Obama, despite having been awarded 157 delegates to the convention.
North Carolina Democratic Party Chairman David Parker brushed off the missing votes and said the five missing votes merely reflected logistical mishaps.

Obama's Convention Speech Gets A Brutal Verdict

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — It's only been a few minutes since President Barack Obama accepted the nomination at the Democratic National Convention, but his speech is already being panned as mediocre and largely void of substance.

"A great speech is more than the sum of its parts," New York Times polling guru Nate Silver tweeted after the speech. "Don't think Obama met that standard."

In a snap recap of the speech titled "Why Obama's Speech Fell Short," National Journal columnist Ron Fournier criticized the President for failing to offer a substantive vision of what he plans to accomplish if given a second term.

The speech, Fournier writes, "wasn’t a blueprint as much as it was a collection of lofty goals and promises."

"He might want to consider offering more details in the debates, policy speeches, and ads," he added. "For now, voters must settle for prose."

Appearing on Fox News right after the speech, conservative pundit Charles Krauthammer was far more harsh, calling Obama's speech "one of the emptiest speeches I have ever seen on the national stage," and noting that it was a marked contrast to Obama's aspirational 2008 acceptance speech.

Liberal pundits were slightly more measured, but there appears to be widespread agreement that Obama's big speech did not live up to expectations.

Taking Back The Truth

by Delegate Michael A. McDermott

I always got a chuckle out of the “Honest Abe” commercial where Mrs. Lincoln asks her husband the age old question, “does this dress make me look fat?” Fast forward to this past week when Governor O’Malley was asked, “Can you honestly say that Americans are better off today than they were 4-years ago?” O’Malley gave an Honest Abe response...”No, we’re not better off...”

The reaction by his party, and his subsequent efforts to take back those words, offer a revealing look at the Democratic leadership. When your man is the President and has not moved the country “forward” as promised, you have two options: lie, or take responsibility. Their choice is quite clear.

Ironically, within his party, the governor’s only sin was stating the truth. The governor would spend days walking back the truth to the satisfaction of those who wish to live in an alternate universe where good is evil an evil is good.

The president’s policies have not led us “forward”. On the night of his acceptance speech, our national debt passed $16 trillion. His own Dept. of Labor reports that we have only recovered 300 thousand jobs during his term, not the 4.5 million with which the president seeks to cloak himself.

I listened to a speech that was to be pragmatic with direction and I heard a retreaded “Hope and Change”. The president said he had “changed” during the past 4-years, yet this is where he and Bill Clinton part company. Clinton accepted the winds which were afforded him and set his sail accordingly. Obama will not change his tack preferring to command the wind.

We all suffer from leadership that will not take responsibility (“The Buck Stops Here!). If you cannot accept that your policies have failed, you will not change direction and our countrymen will continue to suffer. When you cannot create your own wind, that’s when the whip and oars come out as you determine to tax and regulate your way “forward”. Marylanders know all too well how increased taxes and a punitive regulatory environment are not the pathway of prosperity.

Tears and emotional pleas will not fuel our economy. False narratives and fear mongering are a pitiful way to ask Americans to give you another 4-years “to get things right”.

28 U. Md. Students Treated For Alcohol Poisoning

Drinking on college campuses has long been an issue, but for the University of Maryland at College Park, this year has not started as officials had hoped.

Twenty-eight students were transported to medical facilities for alcohol-related sickness in the first two weeks of the new semester. That is double the number during the same two week period last year.

County Takes Step Toward New Snow Hill High School

SNOW HILL -- Residents eager to see a new Snow Hill High School (SHHS) got some good news earlier this week when the Worcester County Commissioners agreed unanimously to fund $255,000 toward architectural reviews and pre-construction costs for the project.

While this doesn’t guarantee that the commission will support building a new SHHS when it comes time to go to the bond market, it is a step in that direction, supporters said this week.

“I’m more optimistic now than I ever have been as far as getting Snow Hill High School moving forward,” said Commissioner Virgil Shockley.

The New Breadwinner In The Family

An emergency room physician told me that a woman in her late 20's came to the ER today with her 8th pregnancy!

She told the first doctor she saw: "My Mama told me that I be dah breadwinnah fo dah family."

He asked her to explain. She said that she can make babies, and babies get money from the State for the family. It goes like this:

The Grandma calls the Department of Child & Family Services, and states that the unemployed daughter is not capable of caring for all of her kids.

DCFS agrees, and tells her the children will need to go into foster care.

The Grandma then volunteers to be the foster parent, and receives a check for $1500 per child each month in Illinois .

Total yearly income: $144,000 tax-free and nobody has to go to work!

In fact, they get more if there is no husband/father/man in the home!

Not to mention free healthcare (Medicaid), plus a monthly card entitling them to free groceries and a voucher for 250 free Obama-phone minutes each month.

This does not include WIC and other welfare benefits...those to which they are "entitled".

Indeed, Grandma was correct that her fertile daughter is the "breadwinner" for the family.

This is how the liberal politicians spend our tax dollars.

When this generous program was invented in the '60s, the Great Society architects forgot to craft an end date... and now we are hopelessly overrun with people who vote only for those who will continue to keep them on the dole....

No wonder our country is broke!

Worse, the Muslims have been paying attention, and by mandating that each Muslim family have eleven children, they will soon replace the voting bloc above and can be running this country within 25 years. Read the above again, until it sinks in, and then ask yourself if your Children, Grandchildren, and Great Grandchildren will survive these severe changes to America !!!

EMBARRASSMENT: GIANT AMERICAN FLAG LEFT LAYING ON THE GROUND BEFORE UPCOMING OBAMA EVENT

Today, President Obama is slated to travel to the University of Iowa to campaign in the crucial battleground state. The Obama campaign’s “advance team” has been making preparations for the president’s appearance since Monday, sources at the university tell TheBlaze.
But no one was prepared for the photo that was taken at the Obama speaking location just moments after the Democratic National Convention wrapped up in Charlotte, N.C.
The photo is of the preparation for the Presidents speech on the Quad of the historic Iowa campus.  In the near distance sits the stately old Iowa Capitol, and sitting on the ground, a gigantic American flag.
