For years, the mainstream media has ignored the problem of voter fraud and belittled those of us who are trying to do something about it. And when secretaries of state like me identify cases of fraud, we are told that the number of incidents of voter fraud is too insignificant to matter.
Now, however, facts have come to light that indicate that a pivotal, close election was likely changed through voter fraud on November 8, 2016: New Hampshire’s U.S. Senate Seat, and perhaps also New Hampshire’s four electoral college votes in the presidential election.
New Hampshire is one of fifteen states that allow same-day voter registration. The benefit of same-day registration is that it allows a person who has procrastinated or has forgotten to register to nonetheless cast a ballot on election day. The downside of same-day registration is that it does not allow the state time to assess the eligibility of the voter. A volunteer poll worker simply accepts a modicum of identification and takes the voter at his word that he’s a U.S. citizen resident of the state who is eligible to vote.
New Hampshire is also a battleground state. Unlike neighboring Massachusetts and Vermont, which reliably vote for the Democrat in presidential elections, New Hampshire can swing either way. It has long been reported, anecdotally, that out-of-staters take advantage of New Hampshire’s same-day registration and head to the Granite State to cast fraudulent votes.
Now there’s proof.

Nominee’s Religious Faith Dominates Senate Judicial Confirmation Hearing
The religious convictions of one of President Donald Trump’s appeals court nominees featured prominently during a Wednesday confirmation hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
The two nominees evaluated during the hearing, Michigan Supreme Court Justice Joan Larsen and Notre Dame Law School Professor Amy Coney Barrett, are nominees to federal appeals courts based in Cincinnati, Ohio and Chicago, Ill. Barrett is a Roman Catholic who has previously written about faith in public life and spoken to Christian legal groups in her capacity as an academic.
A coalition of leftwing groups, including the Alliance for Justice (AFJ), allege that Barrett has advocated prioritizing religious views over established case law when the two conflict in her professional publications.
“Stunningly, Barrett has asserted that judges should not follow the law or the Constitution when it conflicts with their personal religious beliefs,” AFJ claims. Legal academics have strongly disputed this characterization of her position.

Man Charged With Multiple Counts of Distribution and Possession of Child Pornography
Cambridge, MD – Maryland State Police criminal investigators have charged a Dorchester County man with multiple counts of distribution and possession of child pornography as a result of an Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) investigation.
The suspect is identified as Manabu Nagase, 56, of Cambridge, Md. He is charged with ten counts each of distribution and possession of child pornography. Nagase is pending being seen by a District Court Commissioner at the time of this writing.
The investigation began in August, when Maryland State Police Criminal Enforcement Division investigators assigned to the Maryland Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force received information about an Internet user actively downloading numerous images of child pornography online, using a peer-to-peer network. The investigation led to the identification of a residence and a search warrant was obtained. Investigators served a search warrant on September 6th, 2017 at the residence and recovered computers and related electronic equipment belonging to the suspect.
A forensic preview was conducted on scene of the suspect’s computers and thousands of files of child pornography were located. The forensic examination of the remaining computers and electronic equipment is continuing and a full computer forensic examination will be conducted at a later date with additional charges possible.
The Maryland Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force is comprised of police agencies from around the State. Its primary mission is to protect children from computer-facilitated sexual exploitation. The Task Force works cooperatively with law enforcement agencies and prosecutors to provide resources to combat these crimes. Additionally, the Task Force provides community awareness campaigns helping to prevent the spread of these crimes through education.

Democrats ready more demands after surprise win with Trump
Democrats say they plan to build on the surprise spending and debt ceiling agreementthey reached with President Trump on Wednesday, by looking to win more concessions on their own agenda items in the months ahead.
"We have an effective leadership here that keeps the team together and I think it really helps," Rep. Jim McGovern, D-Mass., a longtime member who sits on the powerful House Rules Committee, told the Washington Examiner. "We are going to, as theses spending bills go forward, I think we are going to be able to exert a little more leverage than I think our Republican friends appreciate."
Democrats scored a major victory at the White House on Wednesday when they won support from Trump for a three-month increase in the nation's borrowing limit.

Robo Rage: Getting your ‘good number’ off robocall lists
WASHINGTON — Federal agencies are working furiously with mobile carriers and on new technology to stop robocalls. But there are steps consumers can take to reduce the number of robocalls they receive, starting with a change in their call behavior.
“Just the mere fact you answer will put you on the list,” said Alex Quilici, the CEO of YouMail, a call-blocking app. He understands the temptation to tell a robocaller to lose your number or ask it questions in return. But that approach backfires.
“A good number for them is one that answers the phone. So if it ever asks you to press 9 to get off the list. Don’t. Pressing 9 will put you on the list,” he said.

Law Student Being Accused Of Hate Crime For Mocking ISIS On Social Media
This is just outrageous. It goes to show how much anti-Semitism has exploded in Britain. A 21 year-old student named Robbie Travers at Edinburgh University is being attacked not only by his peers, but the university itself after he mocked ISIS on social media. He posted an update on social media after the US bombing of an ISIS stronghold in Afghanistan in April and that’s when he started being attacked. He said, “I’m glad we could bring these barbarians a step closer to collecting their 72 virgins.” I see nothing wrong with that. First off, it’s free speech, second… it’s technically correct in numerous respects. These Islamists are barbarians and they do believe they will get 72 virgins if they die in battle.
I have personally said worse in moments of anger with Jihadists. Unfortunately, Brits do not have our Constitution protecting them. Another reason to be thankful we won the Revolutionary War. Several asshats reported Travers for his social media post. They claim his decision to mock ISIS made Muslim students feel uncomfortable. “Mocking Isis allegedly made Islamic and minority students feel ‘threatened’ and ‘unsafe,’” one complaint reads. Too freaking bad. If Islamists would quit butchering people, we would not be at war with them and there would be nothing to mock.

Charlottesville Votes To Remove ‘Stonewall’ Jackson Statue From Park
It was a unanimous vote in Charlottesville, Va. Tuesday to remove a statue of Gen. Thomas “Stonewall Jackson, NBC affiliate WVIR reported. With five in favor and none against, the city council decided to take down the statue of the Virginia-born Confederate hero who is routinely recognized throughout the world as a military genius.
Since the council first announced its plans to remove a statue of Gen. Robert E. Lee, and the subsequent riots between white supremacists and Antifa activists, Charlottesville has been ground zero for the continuing debate on how Confederate leaders should be acknowledged in U.S. history.
The council also decided to quickly find an alternate location for the Lee statue.
Councilman Bob Fenwick commented on the city’s decision by declaring both statues “should be in a museum” and not in a public park.

County Changes Retiree Benefits; Retired Employees’ Dependents Must Pay Entire Premium
SNOW HILL – The Worcester County Commissioners approved a change expected to reduce the county’s medical insurance costs in the future.
On Tuesday the commissioners voted unanimously to eliminate the health insurance cost-share for dependents of employees hired after Oct. 1 upon their retirement. Though the change was initially proposed in June, the commissioners delayed their decision in order to gather input from the county’s educators.
“I didn’t read anything that swayed my mind,” Commissioner Joe Mitrecic said. “I hope we continue to move forward with this.”
Mitrecic has long advocated for the change in an effort to address rising health insurance costs. Currently, dependents of retirees with at least 15 years of county service are provided medical insurance at the same cost-share as the retired employee. That rate is 10 percent for county employees hired before July 1, 2015, and 20 percent for employees hired since then.

ObamaCare is making the middle class the new uninsured
Brace yourself for the next health insurance crisis: The middle class is becoming the new uninsured.
The Affordable Care Act added millions of mostly poor people to the insurance rolls. But the law is driving premiums so high that middle-class people can no longer afford insurance. Several million areexpected to drop coverage in 2018. Under ObamaCare, poor lives matter. Middle-class lives? Not so much.
With GOP lawmakers paralyzed about how to repeal and replace ObamaCare, Sens. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) and Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) are swooping in with a plan to keep the floundering health law afloat. Senate hearings began Wednesday.
The senators cloaked themselves in the mantle of bipartisan reasonableness, but don’t be fooled. There’s nothing bipartisan about their scheme. The big losers are middle-class buyers priced out of the individual insurance market and taxpayers footing the bill for the billions in extra spending these fixers are proposing. The winners are insurance companies.

Dualization of 113 paving to continue through September
Construction crews will be a continuing presence for commuters on Route 113 between Snow Hill and Berlin, as paving work there is expected to continue into the fall.
Maryland State Highway Administration spokesman Bob Rager provided a status update on Phase 3 of the $86 million highway dualization project, which covers a 4.6-mile stretch of road between Massey Branch and Five Mile Branch Road.
Rager said State Highway was in the process of installing several layers of base asphalt for the new northbound U.S. 113 roadway that will run from south of Langmaid Road to south of Basket Switch Road.
Because crews began putting in initial base layers of asphalt in July, Rager said work has progressed steadily.
“It always takes a while to get to this point, but projects like this can really pick up speed once we hit the first paving operation,” he said.

More than 5,000 out-of-state voters may have tipped New Hampshire against Trump
More than 6,500 people registered to vote in New Hampshire on Nov. 8 using out-of-state driver’s licenses, and since then the vast majority have neither obtained an in-state license nor registered a motor vehicle.
Conservatives say the state’s same-day registration is an invitation for fraud because of loose proof-of-residence rules.
New Hampshire House Speaker Shawn Jasper, a Republican, issued the numbers Thursday based on inquiries he made to the Department of State, which oversees elections, and the Department of Safety.
Since Election Day, Republicans have charged that a significant number of nonresident Democrats, principally from Massachusetts, flowed into New Hampshire to vote illegally, tilting a close race to their party.

Hillary Clinton fundraiser: 'I wish she'd just shut the f--k up and go away'
As Hillary Clinton gears up for her book tour, some Democrats are fuming that their former presidential nominee is returning to the spotlight.
"The best thing she could do is disappear," one former Clinton fundraiser and surrogate told The Hill. "She's doing harm to all of us because of her own selfishness. Honestly, I wish she'd just shut the fuck up and go away."
Clinton's memoir, "What Happened," tells her side of the stunning defeat by Donald Trump. It's set to be released Tuesday.
In the memoir she deridesformer FBI Director James Comey for saying she was "extremely careless" for using a private email server while secretary of state.
She blames her Democratic rival Bernie Sanders for inflicting "lasting damage" on her campaign, accusing him of paving the way for Trump's "Crooked Hillary" campaign.
Clinton also warns Russian President Vladimir Putin "hasn't had the laugh last yet" after his country's interference in the election.

Juveniles Charged With Shooting At Street Lights, Abandoned Home, Vehicles, Animals In Berlin
BERLIN — Two juveniles are facing reckless endangerment and malicious destruction of property charges this week after being identified as the suspects in a series of air gun shootings at street lights, an abandoned residence, animals and possibly moving vehicles.
On Thursday, the Berlin Police Department initiated an investigation into several street lights that had been damaged by BBs on Maple Avenue. When electric company employees went to repair the damaged street lamps, numerous BBs were located in the housing of the lighting fixtures.
In addition, one residence in the area had suffered damage due to being shot numerous times with air guns, according to police. In addition to the property damage, the investigation revealed numerous wild and domestic animals had been shot in the same area. The investigation led police to a residence where two juvenile suspects were identified. During the investigation, five air rifles and one firearm classified as a long gun were seized.

Walls Close in on Ryan: Conservative Congressmen Warn Speaker About Failures in Governance
Three Freedom Caucus leaders brought warning to House Speaker Paul Ryan on Wednesday as former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon has been speaking with GOP lawmakers, according to a new report from the Washington Post.
Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows, Rep. Jim Jordan and Rep. Scott Perry met with Ryan on Wednesday according to two sources that spoke with the Post. The report noted Meadows’ longtime close relationship with Bannon. The lawmakers voiced the importance of seeing leadership set conservative policies in place and warned that their continued support may depend on it.
The Post added that Bannon has been “having conversations with hard-line GOP lawmakers about how they should exert greater influence in the fall’s political fights and pressure congressional Republican leaders.”
According to the report, rumors have arisen that Meadows and Bannon have begun discussing possible Ryan replacements.

Guilty plea expected in ’75 murders of Lyon sisters, ’96 rape in Pr. William Co.
WASHINGTON — The man charged with the abduction and murder of 12-year-old Sheila and 10-year-old Katherine Lyon is expected to enter a guilty plea in the decades-old case, according to sources familiar with the negotiations.
Lloyd Lee Welch, 60, was set to go on trial on Tuesday for the girls’ murders in Bedford County, Virginia — 240 miles away from Wheaton Plaza, where the young sisters were last seen on March 25, 1975.
A plea hearing is now set for Tuesday instead, according to court records.
Several sources said Welch is set to admit his role in the girls’ deaths and that he sexually assaulted a young girl in 1996 in Prince William County.
WTOP has learned that as part of the plea arrangement, Welch will accept a sentence of life in prison, rather than risk a trial in which he could be sentenced to death.

The Era of Complacency Is Ending
Physicists say a “subcritical” system that’s waiting to “go critical” is in a “phase transition.” A system that is subcritical actually appears stable, but it is capable of wild instability based on a small change in initial conditions.
The critical state is when the process spins out of control, like a nuclear reactor melting down or a nuclear bomb exploding. The phase transition is just the passage from one state to another, as a system goes from subcritical to critical.
The signs are everywhere that the stock market is in a subcritical state with the potential to go critical and meltdown at any moment. The signs as elevated price-to-earnings (P/E) ratios, complacency, and seasonality — crashes have a habit of happening around this time of year.
The problem with a market meltdown is that it’s difficult to contain. It can spread rapidly. Likewise, there’s no guarantee that a stock market meltdown will be contained to stocks.

Comey's incredible secret power: What if the FBI had a lot to do with that fake Trump ‘dossier’?

Western NY librarian pleads guilty in death of WWI veteran
A western New York librarian has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of a World War I veteran more than three decades ago.
Erie County District Attorney John Flynn says 51-year-old Saundra Adams, of Buffalo, entered the plea Wednesday in state Supreme Court, just a day into jury selection for her murder trial.
Adams admitted that she and an accomplice broke into a Buffalo home in June 1983 and caused the death of 92-year-old Edmund Schreiber.
The original indictment accused the two of tying up Schreiber and strangling the decorated war veteran with his own neckties.
Adams' plea comes almost a year to the day that she was arrested and charged.

Left Wanting To Punish Americans For Their Heritage, While Rewarding Obama’s ‘Dreamers’
One man’s DREAMer is an other man’s night terror.
There are a lot of theories floating around as to why President Obama allowed the original DACA (Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals) to earn his signature. The DREAMers, as they are known, are supported by a marketing-friendly name and may have been put in place simply to kick the can down the line and force the next President to make an inflammatory decision.
Even the name, DACA, with its Deferred qualification confirms that it was never meant to be a permanent policy, as pointed out by Breitbart’s Raheem Kassam.
Brace Yourselves For IMPACT- Illegal Alien Sitcoms Headed To CBS And CW
Just when you thought that things couldn’t get anymore SJW-level cringey in the United States, activist actors have to prove you wrong.
Now that the idea of deportation is in the news thanks to Trump’s DACA decision, liberals, progressives, and bleeding-heart activists are coming out of the woodwork to attempt to “humanize” illegal aliens and DACA recipients. To this end, Gina Rodriguez is developing two new shows that feature undocumented families as a way to normalize breaking the law and hiding from justice. Because that’s what our children need, role models who completely disregard order because “muh feelz.”
The shows, entitled Have Mercy and Illegal (not exactly subtle) focus on illegal aliens who are struggling to achieve their full potential in the United States.
Have Mercy will air on CBS, and stars a Latina doctor who cannot practice medicine after immigrating to Miami. After being denied the RIGHT to pursue her life’s passion, the aforementioned doctor gets to work in a shabby, makeshift clinic as a way to give back to her community. How heartwarming.
Illegal, in contrast, stars a teenage boy who is struggling to come to terms with his family’s status as illegal immigrants while also staying in school, making good grades, and dealing with puberty and all of the wonderful things that accompany being a teenager.
Rodriguez, who is known for her role on Jane The Virgin, also issued a series of profanity-laced tweets about DACA and President Trump. Because class is overrated.

Poem That Says God Is A “LIE” Assigned To Middle Schoolers- Parents OUTRAGED
Having a political and social agenda is no new concept to public schools. They get away with their progressive, Marxist idealism all the time throughout the country. But did one school take it too far now? Was their anti-God agenda just way too blatant for parents of students to ignore? The culprit of this weeks public education debacle is a poem.
This poem was titled “Unicorn,” and the opening of Unicorn just might make you just as upset as these parents were: “God is like a mythical creature / A unicorn with silver blood / If you drink the blood you will live forever / It makes a good story in a book like Harry Potter …”
“Unicorn” then takes it even further by declaring that God “is revealed in all his foolishness / a naked lie / a childish dream / a mythical creature like the unicorn.”

Funding for sanctuary cities stripped in late House vote
The House late Wednesday voted to block federal transportation and housing funding from cities and states that choose not to cooperate with federal officials on immigration.
Rep. Jason Smith, R-Mo., brought up his language as an amendment to a minibus spending bill and proposed attaching it to part of the bill that deals with transportation and housing funding. It was the latest Republican attack on so-called sanctuary cities, which reject federal demands to cooperate when it comes to detaining and tracking illegal immigrants.
"It just requires that funds in Transportation, Housing and Urban Development funds only go to cities and states that uphold federal law," Smith said in late Wednesday debate.

Clinton Cash: Dina Powell Partnered with Clinton Foundation for Goldman Sachs Globalist Initiative
NEW YORK — When she served as president of the Goldman Sachs Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Wall Street giant, White House Deputy National Security Adviser Dina Habib Powell repeatedly partnered with the Clinton Global Initiative for a globalist women’s project that served as the centerpiece of Goldman’s charitable foundation.
Besides partnership with CGI, Powell’s foundation also directly funded the Clinton Foundation and partnered with Hillary Clinton’s State Department. Powell herself was associated with numerous groups and projects linked to the Clintons.
Powell served as president of the Goldman Sachs Foundation, where she ran the foundation’s projects after Goldman Sachs was implicated in the 2007-2008 financial crisis and sought to resurrect its shattered image.
The Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) was founded by Bill Clinton in 2005 as a part of the controversial Clinton Foundation. CGI was co-founded by Doug Band, co-founder and president of Teneo Holdings. Powell’s now ex-husband, Richard C. Powell, is president of Teneo Strategy, an arm of Band’s Teneo Holdings.

Here's How Big North Korea's Latest Nuclear Test Actually Was
When North Korea conducted its latest nuclear test, the ground trembled more than 3,000 miles away in western Kazakhstan. Recording the shaking was AS059, an automated seismic station that's part of a global network designed to detect underground nuclear explosions.
The network is run by the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization(CTBTO), a U.N.-affiliated group devoted to monitoring for illicit nuclear tests. While the test ban treaty itself is not yet in force, the United States and other nations fund the monitoring network.

DACA Fraud Rate at ’40 to 50 Percent’
Fraud is rampant and “huge” for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, a former official with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) agency alleges.
Under DACA, nearly 800,000 illegal aliens were given temporary protected status and work permits to remain in the United States. Experts have told Breitbart Texas that during the Obama Administration, background screening was lax.
In an interview with LifeZette, former USCIS manager of the agency’s investigative unit, Matt O’Brien, alleged that the fraud rate for DACA is roughly “40 to 50 percent” and potentially even “higher”:
According to O’Brien, the DACA program was riddled with fraud and abuse from the beginning, where illegal alien applicants for the program allegedly lied on applications and were rarely caught by USCIS officials:

Cardin, Van Hollen Announce Nearly $700,000 for Eastern Shore Airports
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen (both D-Md.) have announced $669,454 in federal funding from the Department of Transportation (DOT) for four Eastern Shore airports. The grants will be used to fund repairs and improvements to the airports’ runways, including the removal of large obstructions.
Salisbury-Ocean City Wicomico Regional Airport (SBY) in Salisbury will receive $90,000; the Easton-Newnam Field Airport (ESN) in Easton will receive $89,935; the Bay Bridge Airport (W29) in Stevensville will receive $78,471; and the Crisfield-Somerset County Airport (W41) in Crisfield will receive $411,048.
“Eastern Shore’s regional airports are a key element of local communities’ and businesses’ ability to conduct trade and reach their destinations safely, making them important hubs for local economic activity. These funds are a federal investment in that economic activity and in all of the Eastern Shore’s residents,” said Senator Cardin, Ranking Member of the Environment and Public Works Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee. “I will keep fighting for better roads, bridges and airports for our whole state.”

Harvey first responder contracts flesh-eating bacteria
A first responder has contracted a flesh-eating bacteria in the floodwaters of Harvey and was lucky to survive after multiple surgeries.
Former firefighter and medic J.R. Atkins was kayaking through floodwaters to check on his neighbors in Missouri City, Texas last week when he was infected with the deadly bacteria.
'I went kayaking from my house to the back side of my neighborhood checking on people's provisions and attitudes' on August 29, Atkins recalled in a Facebook post.
'Came home around 4pm and noticed a small bite on my left arm, not huge but probably nickel-sized swelling,' he recalled.

AP Refers To Illegal Immigrants As ‘Undocumented Citizens’
The Associated Press shirked their own style guide in a recently published article, using “undocumented citizens” in lieu of their usual “undocumented immigrants.”
The article with the strange reference was published on September 5 and discusses Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s response to President Donald Trump’s decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.
“The Chicago Sun-Times reports that school officials say about a third of the school’s students are undocumented citizens,” the AP wrote.
In the same piece, AP also failed to explain that DACA only protects immigrants in the country illegally, not all “young immigrants” as is written in the article’s lede.

U.S. Rep. Anthony Brown announces plans for a bill to punish hate speech at universities
U.S. Rep. Anthony Brown announced during a speech Thursday afternoon that he plans to introduce a bill he hopes will curtail hate speech at universities.
If passed, the bill would require universities and colleges to demonstrate they have programs and initiatives in place that clearly define to students "what is acceptable speech and what is not acceptable speech," Brown (D-Md.) said to a room of roughly 150 people at the Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center.
For institutions that might lack the necessary resources to create these programs, the bill would set aside grant money to "take away any excuse," Brown said.
The bill would also push universities to report hate crimes to local law enforcement. While existing laws require universities to report hate crime data, Brown said many schools don't comply, which has led to underreporting.

These Are The Insane Tactics One Pharma Company Used to Sell An Incredibly Powerful Opioid
A pharmaceutical company that manufactures the prescription painkiller fentanyl repeatedly misrepresented its product and the patients using it in order to boost sales, according to a blistering report released Wednesday by Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.).
The report, part of the senator’s investigation into opioid manufacturers, focuses on a major pharmaceutical company called Insys, which manufactures a fentanyl spray, Subsys, for cancer patients experiencing extreme pain. The spray is extraordinarily potent stuff—this is the same synthetic compound that is illicitly produced and is now fueling the opioid epidemic. Before covering it, insurers require authorization from a doctor in order to make sure that the patient indeed has an active cancer diagnosis, has extreme pain as a result, and has tried other painkillers and is thus tolerant to opioids.

Trump's Historic Opportunity With The Federal Reserve
And then there were three.
Yesterday Stanley Fischer submitted his letter of resignation from the Federal Reserve’s Board of Governors, effective next month, the second such resignation of Donald Trump’s presidency. While Fischer’s term as Vice Chairman of the Fed was set to end next year, he had the ability to serve as a governor through 2020. Along with Trump’s decision next year on whether to replace Janet Yellen as the Fed’s chair, this means Trumps will have the opportunity to appoint five of seven governors to America’s central bank.
Given that the position holds a 14-year term, it is unusual for a president to have the opportunity to make so many appointments.
As Diane Swonk of DS Economics noted, “It’s the largest potential regime change in the leadership of the Fed since 1936.”
Of course the question is now whether a change in personnel will lead to a change in policy.
Trump has already taken steps to fill one of the vacancies, nominating Randal Quarles earlier this year. Quarles, a former Bush-era Treasury official turned investment banker, will be taking the specific role of Fed vice chair of supervision. As a vocal critic of Dodd-Frank, and the Volker Rule in particular, Quarles may help relieve some of the regulatory burden on financial institutions, but his views on monetary policy are less clear. He has also voiced his support for rules-based monetary policy, though he has distanced himself to the specific proposal of the “Taylor Rule.” Given the growing consensus building for NGDP-targeting, and Republicans in Congress advocating for rules-based Fed reform, Quarles could become a supporter from within the central bank. All in all though, Quarles is seen by many observes as a bland Fed-appointment.

Not Just Florida: Georgia And South Carolina Face "Catastrophic Storm Surge"
As Hurricane Irma looks to be hurdling straight for a direct hit on Southern Florida, meteorologists from Weather Underground are warning that the most devastating impacts of the storm could be felt much further north in towns along the coast of Georgia and South Carolina where the storm surge could be a catastrophic 20-28 feet high in certain areas. To put that in perspective, Hurricane Katrina in 2005 set a record for the largest storm surge ever recorded along the U.S. coast at 27.8 feet.
If Irma makes a trek up the East Coast from Miami to southern South Carolina as a Category 3 or 4 hurricane, as the models currently suggest, the portions of the coast that the eyewall touches will potentially see a massive and catastrophic storm surge, breaking all-time storm surge records and causing many billions of dollars in damage. Even areas up to a hundred miles to the north of where the center makes landfall could potentially see record storm surges. The area of most concern is the northern coast of Florida, the coast of Georgia, and the southern coast of South Carolina, due to the concave shape of the coast, which will act to funnel and concentrate the storm surge to ridiculous heights. If we look at wunderground’s storm surge maps for the U.S. East Coast, we see that in a worst-case Category 3 hurricane hitting at high tide, the storm tide (the combined effect of the storm surge and the tide) ranges from 17 – 20’ above ground along the northern coast of Florida, and 18 – 23 feet above ground along the Georgia coast. If Irma is a Cat 4, these numbers increase to 22 – 28 feet for the coast of Georgia. This is a Katrina-level storm surge, the kind that causes incredible destruction and mass casualties among those foolish enough to refuse to evacuate.
So, which coastal towns are most at risk? As Weather Underground notes, Savannah in Southern Georgia could see a surge of up to 23 feet if Irma strikes as a Category 3 storm. Obviously, the surge would be even larger if Irma manages to maintain Cat-4 winds.

As MEMA Monitors Hurricane Irma, Residents Should Prepare
REISTERSTOWN, Md. (September 7, 2017) — The Maryland Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) continues to monitor Hurricane Irma and additional tropical weather systems in the Atlantic. While it is still too early to know what impacts, if any, that Irma may have on Maryland next week, residents should prepare now.
“I urge all Marylanders to prepare now for the potential effects of Hurricane Irma,” said Governor Larry Hogan. “While we have the benefit of time, review your family emergency plans and ensure you have supplies on hand. As always, Maryland stands ready to support our friends and neighbors in states that will be dealing with the impacts from this major hurricane first.”
In addition to continuous communication with the National Weather Service, MEMA is coordinating with local emergency management offices and state partners to ensure that they have the information and resources they need to respond.
“Hurricane tracks can shift quickly,” said Russ Strickland, Executive Director of MEMA. “Everyone in our area should regularly check forecasts, build an emergency kit, and always listen to the directions of local officials.”
Before a storm, residents and visitors in Maryland can:
Prepare an emergency kit and create a family communications plan. Good supplies to have on hand include bottled water and non-perishable food, a battery-operated radio, flashlight, extra batteries, toiletries, and copies of important documents.
Check to see if you are in a flood-prone area on our website: mema.maryland.gov.
Communicate with friends, family members, and neighbors and make sure that they are up to date with the latest information and weather forecast.
