Obituary For David A. White

Life Story for David White

David A. White, 77, of Pittsville passed away peacefully after a short battle with lung cancer, on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, surrounded by his family. Born in Pittsville, he was the eldest son of the late Freddy and Betty White.

A lifelong resident of Pittsville, he graduated from Pittsville School in 1957, and began his career as a Maryland State Police Communications Officer, serving for 28+ years, and as a farmer. Dave also owned and operated Dave White’s Farm Service and Dave White’s Pittsville Dinette.

He took pride in his community, serving as a former president of the Pittsville Fire Dept., past member of the Pittsville Lions Club, lifelong supporter of Camp Barnes, and supporter of many other local organizations.

Dave’s great understanding of working the soil on his land wasn’t contained to farming. As the son of a racecar driver and race horse jockey, Dave became an avid racecar driver with many feature wins and championships, and was the patriarch of 3 generations of dirt-track drivers.

Dave not only enjoyed dirt track racing, but was an avid NASCAR fan (Dale Earnhardt #3) and proud father of two sons who worked in the industry. He also enjoyed NASCAR and Coca Cola memorabilia.

Dave is survived by his fiance’, Helen Layton; three sons, David Jr. “Bunky”, Tim (Debbie), and Kevin (Michele); five grandchildren, David III “Sparky” (Trishia) and Matt (Amber) White, Brianna Reid, Danielle and Torri White; four great grandchildren, M.J., Madyson, Landon and Chase White; three brothers, Gary (Pauline), Phillip (Martha) and Greg White; two sisters, Rebecca Taylor White and Sharon Ennis (Bill); along with a niece and many nephews.

In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his wife and mother of his children, Lou White.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 11, 2017 at 11 am at Holloway Funeral Home. A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 10 from 4 to 6 pm and on Monday from 10:00 – 11:00am. Interment will follow at the Pittsville Cemetery with Pastor Dave Souder officiating.
