U.S. Rep. Anthony Brown announces plans for a bill to punish hate speech at universities
U.S. Rep. Anthony Brown announced during a speech Thursday afternoon that he plans to introduce a bill he hopes will curtail hate speech at universities.
If passed, the bill would require universities and colleges to demonstrate they have programs and initiatives in place that clearly define to students "what is acceptable speech and what is not acceptable speech," Brown (D-Md.) said to a room of roughly 150 people at the Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center.
For institutions that might lack the necessary resources to create these programs, the bill would set aside grant money to "take away any excuse," Brown said.
The bill would also push universities to report hate crimes to local law enforcement. While existing laws require universities to report hate crime data, Brown said many schools don't comply, which has led to underreporting.

ReplyDeleteSo who's the hate speech police,a panel of liberals?
ReplyDeleteLooks like another attack on freedom of speech disguised has hate speech or political correctness. What they are doing needs to be called out for what it is. Even if you disagree with what someone says or believes, it should be protected under the constitution for their right of free speech, even if it is considered offensive to some.
ReplyDeleteWho decides what is and what isn't?
ReplyDeleteWho can stop a speech in progress, and for what reasons?
Can a license to assemble be refused based upon an assumption that the organization or group will be presenting hate speech?
So much for the first amendment!
ReplyDeleteThe statement "practicing homosexuality is a sin" to liberals is a form of hate speech.
ReplyDeleteHate speech is protected speech, as it should be. It frightens me to hear that so many ignorant people welcome the taking of our liberties.
ReplyDeleteThis loser is out of his mind. Hate speech doesn't apply if against white students!
ReplyDeleteI believe it was Voltaire who said " I do not agree with what you say, But,
ReplyDeletewill to death your right to say it"
All these people want is to get a foothold on restricting free speech then have it challenged in court and upheld by liberal judges and then the will target political rivals while giving a free pass to others.
ReplyDeleteHow much does he get paid (by us!) to come up with this crap???
ReplyDeleteIf that is the best use of his time, then we apparently don't need his services.
I keep telling you --- its a part time job.
We pay him like it's he is indispensable. And the bennies?
You WISH you had them......
Keep cheering.
This will mean the professor's are no longer allowed to speak.
ReplyDeleteI HATE the fact that he presided over losing millions of tax dollars on the OCare exchanges!
ReplyDeleteThe nerve of him!! and others that think they can determine what is hate speech and what isn't. Get off your arrogant high horses and shut up!!!@
ReplyDeleteSo this is the best he can do?
ReplyDeleteWhat a waste
Their doing to the 1st amendment....exactly like they've done to the 2nd....all while totally ignoring the ultimate law of the land...the Bill of Rights.
ReplyDeleteSo called leaders like this should be charged with crimes against Americans, at the least derelict of Duty!!!
Why is he not being investigated for the millions of dollars that just...disappeared from his hands???? Thieves and criminals allowed to destroy our Country and no one with the decency to stop them
Well lock me up I definitely hate these idiots and will speak my mind!
