STETSON HILLS - Imagine going out your front door to find a package addressed to you that you didn't order. Being a moral and ethically-minded person, you write return to sender and give it to the postal service.
But then - three months later - you get a notice from a collection agency saying you owe $139.97 for not returning the package in a timely manner.
What now?
That exact situation happened to a woman in Stetson Hills near Colorado Springs, police say. The woman, a senior citizen, did everything right - she even got the authorities involved.

Twitter Suspends Account After Radical Islam Book Announcement
The Twitter account of Breitbart London editor in chief Raheem Kassam has been suspended by the platform, just days after he announced the forthcoming publication of his new book on Radical Islam.
Titled No Go Zones: How Sharia Law Is Coming to a Neighborhood Near You, the new book published by Regnery has already caused a stir on social media and hit a number of best seller lists on Amazon, including Islamic law, terrorism, and the important “movers and shakers” list.
A BAN. Best possible endorsement of @RaheemKassam book. RT and buy it. Well done the censors of Twatter, you just don't learn do you.
— Sheikh Anvakh (@Sheikh_Anvakh) July 26, 2017
Kassam implied the sudden decision of Twitter to suspend his account just days after he revealed the controversial cover art of the forthcoming book which challenges radical Islam may have been more than just a coincidence when he took to rival social media Facebook to reveal the shutdown. Kassam also said that his account had never been shut down before.

Maryland State Police To Support National Night Out Efforts
(PIKESVILLE, Md.) — Maryland State Police will join communities and other law enforcement agencies across the state on Tuesday, August 1 in support of National Night Out. National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live.
Communities from Western Maryland to the Baltimore region to the Eastern Shore and Southern Maryland have a variety of events planned for National Night Out. From block parties and festivals to parades, cookouts and other community events, neighborhoods are reaching out to Maryland State Police and other law enforcement agencies as a part of this collaborative effort.
Citizens who attend a National Night Out event in their respective communities will have the chance to interact with troopers and learn ways to help make their neighborhood a safer place to live. Since the inaugural event in 1984, National Night Out has grown from 2.7 million Americans participating in 400 communities in 23 states to more than 37 million people and 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide.
Maryland State Police will be at the following National Night Out events:
King: Awan Had Access to ‘All the Communication of the Foreign Affairs Committee’
Rep. Steve King (R-IA) talked about the ever-worsening scandal surrounding Imran Awan and his ex-employer Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz on Breitbart New’s Whatever it Takes with Curt Schilling Wednesday.
The Pakistan-born longtime congressional Democratic IT consultant was arrested by federal authorities as he tried to flee the country Tuesday, sending hundreds of thousands of dollars ahead of himself to Pakistan.
Rep. King, a staunch conservative and ally of populist nationalism, stressed that the facts are anything but clear at this stage. The surface narrative itself was suspicious enough for King even before getting into the extensive criminal allegations against Awan and his brothers.
"They had access to the information on the multiple clients that they had, and that number is nearly a score, as I recall, they would have had access to all the information that came through all those computers in all those offices and access to…all the communications of the foreign affairs committee."

Eating curry is GOOD for you! Turmeric helped cancer patient, 57, beat myeloma after five years of treatment
A WOMAN diagnosed with blood cancer has beaten the disease with the help of turmeric.
Dieneke Ferguson, 57, was diagnosed with myeloma in 2007 after complaining of high blood pressure, according to a report in the British Medical Journal.
Within 15 months of her diagnosis her cancer had progressed to stage three.
Dieneke underwent several rounds of chemotherapy and in October 2009 had stem cell transplant, but the treatments didn't work.
In 2011 she began taking daily doses of curcumin, a key component of the spice turmeric, after another two rounds of stem cell therapy failed.
Dieneke took eight grams each night on an empty stomach.
A few months later she began a weekly course of hyperbaric oxygen therapy, which involves breathing pure oxygen in an enclosed chamber that mimics higher than atmospheric pressures.
Over the last five years her cancer has remained stable and her blood counts are within the normal range.

Man Defeats Top ‘Smart Gun’ Tech with $15 Worth of Magnets
Despite decades of the reports that smart guns are based on theoretical technology that does not work in reality, leftists have gravitated to the German manufactured Armatix IP1 as the smart gun of the future.
Problem #1: A hacker at a Colorado shooting range just showed how to completely sidestep the gun’s lock mechanism via the use of $15 of magnets.
Problem #2: The same hacker showed how to the lock the gun—when it is supposed to be in fire mode—so that the gun’s owner cannot use it in self-defense.

Little Free Pantry Established By Methodist Church
BERLIN – Members of Bethany United Methodist Church in Berlin dedicated its first Little Free Pantry this week.
Located on the church’s property off Route 611, the wooden structure, named the Bethany Blessing Box, provides a place where community members can both take and donate food and personal care items at their discretion.
Similar in concept to the Little Free Library, the Little Free Pantry offers access to free resources utilizing community support.
Merrie McElrath, a Sunday school teacher at Bethany United Methodist, said she heard about the Little Free Pantry through social media earlier this year and soon approached both the church’s outreach team and committee members to establish a similar operation in the area.
She said alarming statistics on the county’s population fueled her determination to install a community pantry box.

Could a green sponge hold cancer-fighting secrets?
A golf-sized green sponge discovered more than a decade ago in deep, icy waters off the coast of Alaska is showing promise as a treatment for pancreatic and ovariancancer.
Scientists say a molecule from the sponge selectively killed malignant cells in both types of diseases in laboratory tests.
The discovery came after researchers spent the last two decades researching natural products that could be used for drugs.
‘This is big news, because there are currently few treatments for this type of cancer [pancreatic],’ Dr Douglas DeMaster, science director of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) told the Detroit Free Press.
NOAA has partnered with the Henry Ford Cancer Institute in Detroit and the Medical University of South Carolina to study the sponge.

Wicomico Traffic Detours Planned During Morris Mill Dam Rehab
SALISBURY – County officials this week outlined plans to reroute traffic from a portion of South Division Street later this year to rehabilitate the Morris Mill Dam in Fruitland.
At a public meeting Wednesday, Dallas Baker, public works director for Wicomico County, told residents traffic will be detoured to Route 13 using Cedar Lane in Fruitland and both Milford Street and College Avenue in Salisbury while construction takes place at the Morris Mill Dam.
The project will cost an estimated $1.4 million and take nine to 12 months to complete.
Baker said construction crews will be replacing metal pipes with two six-foot concrete pipes, clearing downstream vegetation, repaving the road and installing a new outfall structure, which has a gate that can be used to lower the water level.

Greatest HOAX of the 21st Century! 98% Scientist DO NOT Believe in Man-Made Climate Change
Do you believe in man-made climate changes and global warming? Did you know that 98% of scientists do NOT believe in man-made climate changes, but it was recently reported that they did. The trick behind the fake news report is that whomever asks scientists about global warming, only asked 77 scientists. 75 of them believed man-made climate change. The other two scientists did not believe in man-made pond parties filled with man-made rain. 75 out of 77 is about 98%.
This is where those global warming liars get their numbers from! If I asked 77 people if they think pizza without cheese, sauce, or toppings is delicious, then what would they say? I can almost guarantee that ALL 77 people polled would likely state that they would not like that pizza. That gives me a final report of 100% people disliking pizza. Now I can say 100% of people dislike pizza.
Make sense yet? The trick is to only ask a handful of people and probably pay them to answer the way you desire. It gives you an accurate measurement of the people asked, but it’s not even close to being an accurate indication of the way our entire country thinks.

Haiti Official Exposed The Clinton Foundation NOW Was Found Dead
Well, this is interesting. A former Haitian government official named Klaus Eberwein was apparently found dead last Tuesday in a South Dade motel room in Miami, Florida. The coroner has ruled it a suicide. “He shot himself in the head,” said Veronica Lamar, Miami-Dade medical examiner records supervisor. She recorded the time of death at 12:19 pm. He was found in a Quality Inn.
Eberwein was a supporter of former Haitian President Michel Martelly. He served as the director general of the government’s economic development agency known as FAES. He was in that position from May of 2012 to February of 2015 when he was replaced. Records show that he was also a partner in a popular pizza restaurant in Haiti named Muncheez. “It’s really shocking,” said Muncheez’s owner Gilbert Bailly. “We grew up together; he was like family.”

Ocean Pines Association Board President Steps Down From Post; ‘Too Frustrating To Continue In That Role’
OCEAN PINES – The president of the Ocean Pines Association’s board of directors abruptly resigned from the position this week.
The association announced late Wednesday afternoon that Tom Herrick, the board’s president, had resigned from the position and that Dave Stevens, the board’s vice president, would take on the role.
In an interview Thursday morning, Herrick said the “havoc and turmoil” created by other directors prompted his resignation.
“To be perfectly frank, it’s fair for the members to know, that it’s specifically related to the conduct displayed by two sitting directors,” Herrick said. “Being president I was forced to deal with this conduct on a daily basis … It became too frustrating to continue in that role.”
Herrick, a retired New York State Police officer, was elected to serve on the board in 2015. He became president of the board in 2016.

Lawyers should never ask a Southern grandma a question if they aren't prepared for the answer
In a trial before a mostly female jury, a Southern small-town prosecuting attorney called a grandmotherly, elderly woman to the stand and asked, "Mrs. Jones, do you know me?"
She responded, "Why, yes, I do know you, Mr. Williams. I've known you since you were a young boy, and frankly, you've been a big disappointment to me. You lie, you cheat on your wife, and you manipulate people and talk about them behind their backs. You think you're a big shot when you haven't the brains to realize you never will amount to anything more than a two-bit paper pusher. Yes, I know you."
The lawyer was stunned, his face bright red and covered with perspiration! Not knowing what else to do, he pointed across the room and asked, "Mrs. Jones, do you know the defense attorney?"
She again replied, "Why, yes, I do. I've known Mr. Bradley since he was a youngster, too. He's lazy, bigoted, and he has a drinking problem. He can't build a normal relationship with anyone and his law practice is one of the worst in the entire state. Not to mention he cheated on his wife with three different women. One of them was your wife. Yes, I know him."
Then, the judge asked both counselors to approach the bench and, in a very quiet voice, said, "If either of you idiots asks her if she knows me, I'll send you to the electric chair.

CalExit: California AG Decides Secession Effort Can Officially Move Forward
The California Attorney General has sided with activists who want to allow Californians to secede from the United States by giving the OK for a petition drive to get the question placed on the ballot.
California Attorney General Xavier Becerra is allowing representatives of the CalExit movement to pass their petitions.
If the CalExit activists can get the 585,000 signatures required, the measure will be placed on an upcoming ballot for state residents to vote on whether they want to quit the U.S.A. and become their own nation… or whatever they are trying to do this time.
The move caused Daily Wire writer John Nolte to snark:

RUDE Vegan Activists Confront Florida Family Trying To Fish For Their Dinner
“It’s not food, it’s violence!” That’s what several unhinged, petulant, preachy animal rights activists chanted at the end of their ridiculous harassment attack on a couple of fellas just fishing on a nice day. It’s all caught on video because these “activists” recorded it, no doubt thinking they’d be big heroes for their “stand” for fish rights. Unfortunately for them, the video only illustrates how illogical and psychologically unstable they appear to be. As they lecture on and on about how fish are just exactly like human children (seriously?) and can process and feel just like a person, the hapless victims of their attack, the two fishermen, to their great credit, continue calmly fishing and they don’t punch them. Clearly from the video, most people would probably have punched them.
The activists even try to say that the Bible promotes the idea that we shouldn’t eat meat, that no animals should be consumed. But the problem with using Scripture to support your argument is that you’ve got to know it to use it as evidence. So, here’s some inconvenient Scripture for these rude vegans.
“At dawn Jesus was standing on the beach, but the disciples couldn’t see who he was. He called out, “Fellows, have you caught any fish?” “No,” they replied. Then he said, “Throw out your net on the right-hand side of the boat, and you’ll get some!” So they did, and they couldn’t haul in the net because there were so many fish in it. Then the disciple Jesus loved said to Peter, “It’s the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his tunic (for he had stripped for work), jumped into the water, and headed to shore. The others stayed with the boat and pulled the loaded net to the shore, for they were only about a hundred yards from shore. When they got there, they found breakfast waiting for them—fish cooking over a charcoal fire, and some bread. “Bring some of the fish you’ve just caught,” Jesus said. So Simon Peter went aboard and dragged the net to the shore. There were 153 large fish, and yet the net hadn’t torn. “Now come and have some breakfast!” Jesus said. None of the disciples dared to ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. Then Jesus served them the bread and the fish.”
John 21:4-13 NLT
Jesus, God Himself, cooked and ate fish. If it’s good enough for Jesus, it’s good enough for the rest of us.

They then fought to have him taken home, saying it was their “last wish” for Charlie to die at home.

Milford Woman Charged with Stealing from Boosters
Lewes - A Milford woman has been charged with felony theft after an investigation revealed she stole more than $27,000.00 from a local booster club.
Stephanie L. Trimmer, 42 of Milford, was arrested and charged with one count of Theft over $1,500.00 (Felony) on Thursday July 27, 2017 after detectives were alerted to money being missing. On June 1, 2017, officials with the Cape Henlopen School District informed detectives that the boys high school lacrosse boosters account had a negative balance and should have contained several thousands of dollars. Stephanie Trimmer, who was the President of the booster club, was the only person since 2016 to have full access to this account.
Through the investigation, it was determined that starting around February of 2016, Trimmer would respond to various banks throughout eastern Sussex County and write checks out to herself for cash and fail to turn in receipts to the treasurer. She continued to do this up until March of 2017 at which time she had depleted the account for approximately $27, 995.00.
Stephanie Trimmer was arraigned at JP2 and released on $1,000.00 unsecured bond.

A community fed up: Tips flood in as Baltimore hits 200 homicides
WASHINGTON — Reaching 200 homicides is a benchmark no one in Baltimore wanted. But as the city continues to track toward a record number of killings, police are noting two drastic changes already quelling violence in Charm City.
“That’s 200 human beings. My brother being one of those numbers. We don’t look at them as numbers, we look at them as human beings,” said Baltimore Police spokesman T.J. Smith. Smith’s brother was killed earlier this month.
The city was already on pace for its third consecutive year of record violence when an unidentified 23-year-old man was gunned down on Greenmount Avenue Wednesday afternoon — becoming the city’s 200th homicide victim.

Melania and Ivanka Chosen for Top 50 Most Beautiful List, Sure to Face Backlash from Democrats
Well, this should drive the left right off a cliff. Both Melania and Ivanka Trump have been named to The Hill’s 2017 “50 Most Beautiful” list. As opposed to the most beautiful women picked for various leftist lists, The Hill’s choices are actually… well… beautiful. I can just see Hillary Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama and other leftist moonbats go green with jealousy. Did you know that these moonbats made leftist lists for the most beautiful? Get real. Please… the Trump women make them look like a joke.
And unlike leftist lists, The Hill’s cut includes women and men from both the left and right. Real beauty was the deciding factor, not politics. They were also all ages. Most I don’t recognize and some I don’t agree with. But it is certainly an interesting list. They even had Kamala Harris on the list. I guess whoever picked these truly had political blinders on.

Kobach: Republicans Who Voted Against Obamacare Repeal Showed Their True Colors
Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach told Breitbart News Daily on Thursday that he was troubled by Wednesday’s Obamacare vote, in which six senators who supported repeal under President Barack Obama changed their minds and voted to preserve the program.
“As you know, it only got 45 votes, but it should have had at least 51 because there were six Republican senators who voted for the clean repeal in 2015 when they knew it wasn’t going to have the president’s signature, so it wasn’t going to become law,” he told SiriusXM host Alex Marlow.
“So they took a show vote in 2015 to fool their constituents into thinking that yes, they, too, opposed Obamacare enough to just get rid of it, regardless of what replaces it. Now, when the vote happens in a way that would be signed by the president, those six Republicans show their true colors and don’t vote to repeal Obamacare,” said Kobach.
“That galls me because politicians who do one thing to create a false impression for their own constituents, and then when the truth comes out, they vote the opposite way, I just think that is a perfect example of the culture of corruption,” he charged.

Steve Scalise Released from Hospital and Starts Rigorous Rehab
Six weeks after the news of Republicans being the target of a mass shooting on a Alexandria baseball field, Rep. Steve Scalisehas finally been discharged from the hospital.
The Louisiana congressman’s office tweeted a statement stating that he “has made excellent progress in his recovery from a life-threatening gunshot wound…and is now beginning a period of intensive inpatient rehabilitation.”
Scalise was badly injured in a June 17 shooting attack on a group of Republicans by James Hodgkinson, Bernie Sanders supporter and crazed Illinois man who opened fire on them after first asking a fellow congressmen whether they were Democrats of Republicans, as they practiced for the congressional baseball game. Hodgkinson was thankfully taken down by Capitol Police, who were only there as part of the House majority whip’s security detail.

New Orleans bilks feds for $2 billion in Hurricane Katrina repairs: Audit
New Orleans is taking federal taxpayers for a $2 billion ride in Hurricane Katrina spending, the inspector general who oversees the Federal Emergency Management Agency said Thursday, concluding that the city is charging the government for repairs that had nothing to do with the 2005 hurricane and flooding that devastated the Gulf Coast.
Auditors said New Orleans and FEMA struck a deal in 2015 to pay for sewage, water and street upgrades to a system that was already struggling before Hurricane Katrina, and whose repairs should have been born by local taxpayers, not the federal government.
“This massive investment — representing almost $5,200 for every man, woman, and child in New Orleans — while perhaps sorely needed, is not eligible for a FEMA disaster grant because there is no evidence that the damage was caused as a direct result of the storms,” Acting Assistant Inspector General John E. McCoy II said in the new report.
In order to get emergency grant money to pay for repairs, municipalities are supposed to prove that the damage was directly caused by the disaster.
In the case of New Orleans, though, about two-thirds of the city’s water mains were at least 40 years old at the time of the Hurricane, and some 30 percent of them were nearly a century old and “leaking badly” well before the storm, Mr. McCoy said.

Soccer Academy To Call New Wicomico Complex Home
PITTSVILLE – Matrix Soccer Academy is calling the Mid-Atlantic Youth Sportsplex (MAYS) its new home.
Bryan Watson, president of Matrix Soccer Academy USA, said its move to the new sports complex will allow players access to centralized, high-end facilities with opportunities for the organization to expand its programs.
“It’s a premiere facility,” he said.
Since establishing its North American headquarters in Salisbury two years ago, the England-based academy has run its programs on fields at the Henry S. Parker Athletic Complex on Naylor Mill Road. Yet, Watson explained the organization was in search of another facility.
“We were in the market for a new home,” he said.

To Reduce Recidivism, States Scrap Barriers for Ex-Offenders
To ease prison crowding and rein in corrections spending, state legislatures are trying to help ex-offenders re-enter society with the goal of ensuring they don’t return to prison.
People exiting prison often struggle to find work and housing, and many legislators say the law continues to punish them as they are hit with court debt and barred from entering certain professions and, in some places, from getting public assistance.
“With the exception of people that get sentenced to life, everybody that goes to prison is going to get out eventually,” said Utah state Sen. Daniel Thatcher, a Republican who sponsored a new law that makes it easier for ex-offenders to clear their criminal records. “When they go to reintegrate we see how incredibly difficult it is for people to meet these standards that we are setting.”

Trump: Military Must Prepare for Real War, Not Culture War
On Wednesday, Donald Trump reversed one of Barack Obama’s most odious military policy decisions. Trump tweeted, “After consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military. Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail. Thank you.”
This is welcome news and a return to some vestige of sanity for much of America and specifically military personnel, whose morale suffered for years as Obama treated the Armed Forces as his political social engineering project. Once again the military can go back to focusing on its primary objective of training, developing and preparing for what it does best — killing the enemy and winning wars, not crusading as social justice warriors for a corrupt, politically correct ideology.
According to a recent RAND study commissioned by the Pentagon, the military’s estimated annual medical cost to accommodate transgenders would have been at least $8.4 million. And the expense would in no way benefit the primary objective of the military. Greater than the cost of accommodating transgender medical bills, however, is the cultural degradation the military would have suffered while forcing compliance to the politically correct policy.

Berlin spraypaint vandal cases over as some fines paid
At the third violation of probation hearing since the June 2015 conviction of Jordan Denton and Nicholas Bonser last Friday, District Court Judge Gerald Purnell made them an offer: pay the remaining $500 in supervision fees assessed by the state today, and the cases will be closed.
According to the State’s Attorney’s office, Bonser made good on his obligations, but Denton did not. Purnell ordered both cases closed anyway, Deputy State’s Attorney Billy McDermott confirmed on Wednesday.
Denton, Bonser and an unidentified juvenile were arrested in January 2015 after buildings, cars and other public property in Berlin was spray painted with movie quotes, catchphrases and crude drawings.
The damages were estimated to be about $11,000, but the trio was ordered to pay about $8,300 in restitution along with community service and other requirements.
The hearing last Friday, which was first about Denton failing to meet the conditions of her probation by failing required drug testing, was about the $500 the trio had not paid as part of their restitution.

Democratic Rep. Delaney eyes 2020 presidential run
Rep. John Delaney (D-Md.) plans on bypassing runs for governor and reelection and has told associates he is seriously considering a bid for president in 2020, according to two Democratic sources.
Five Democratic sources in the state said buzz about Delaney's intentions for 2018 and 2020 has been building for weeks, with increasing chatter about a presidential bid. Delaney, who could self-fund a run for governor, will skip a challenge against popular GOP Gov. Larry Hogan. He will also leave Democrats to defend his district, which he nearly lost in 2014. Democrats in the state believe he will announce his plans in a Washington Post op-ed on Friday.

Images show US war machine after Pearl Harbor
A stunning selection of pictures gives a fascinating insight into US preparations for World War Two, when the country responded to the Pearl Harbor bombing.
More than 2,400 American personnel were killed at the base during a Japanese air strike in December 1941, and the atrocity sparked a huge increase in arms production.
The images, mostly taken at the Corpus Christi naval base in Texas, show how volunteers did their bit to help the US war effort.
In the four years after Pearl Harbor the US manufactured 102,410 tanks, 2,679,840 machine guns and 105,000 mortar rounds.
They also produced 99,000 fighter planes, 97,000 bombers and 6,771 large ships, more than any other nation involved in the war effort.
By the time the war was over, it is estimated, more than 35,000 airmen had gained their 'wings' from the base, and the images have been colorized nearly 75 years after they were created.

What time you eat causes you to pile on the pounds
The time of day you eat not how many calories you consume is key to losing weight, according to new research.
The findings suggest even your best efforts to cut back may prove ineffective if you're not timing your meals correctly.
A recent study found that mice given a reduced calorie diet who ate only during the day lost weight.
But rodents who had their food at night did not reap the same results – despite consuming the same amount of calories.
Lead author of the study Dr Joseph Takahashi said: 'Translated into human behaviour, these studies suggest that dieting will only be effective if calories are consumed during the daytime when we are awake and active.
'They further suggest that eating at the wrong time at night will not lead to weight loss even when dieting.'

Politico: GOP Reps. Prompted Trump to Announce Transgender Reform
A mid-July pro-transgender vote on the House floor prompted President Donald Trump to reject the Pentagon’s 2016 endorsement of soldiers who have “gender identity” problems, according to Politico.
Trump’s decision was intended to ease passage of the 2018 defense authorization bill, which includes $1.6 billion for the president’s border wall.
But the bill is being held up by a dispute over funding to cover the costs of medical care offered by the prior administration to military adults, spouses and their children who say they want to live as “transgender” members of the opposite sex. According to Politico:
"The transgender fight first surfaced in the House a few weeks ago. With the backing of almost the entire GOP conference, Hartzler offered an amendment to a defense authorization bill that would ban funding for gender reassignment surgeries and treatments for transgender active-duty personnel.
"Republican supporters were shocked when a group of [23] mostly moderate Republicans teamed up with 190 Democrats to kill the [amendment] effort in a 209-214 vote…"

112,000,000: Medicaid Enrollees Set to Climb 40,000,000 Under Obamacare
(CNSNews.com) - Under current law—including the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (AKA Obamacare)—there will be 112,000,000 people who enroll in Medicaid at some time during fiscal 2027, according to the latest baseline estimate published by the Congressional Budget Office.

Transgender Soldiers’ Medical Expenses 14 Times Higher than Average
Critics of President Donald Trump’s decision to bar transgender Americans from serving in the U.S. armed forces are citing a 2016 RAND Corporation study that, they claim, refutes “the idea that transgender soldiers are somehow expensive, or that they undermine the morale and cohesion of the military over all,” as the New Yorker put it.
The question of cost relates to gender transition treatment, which some transgenders want the military to provide for them.
The RAND study says that the cost of gender transition treatment for transgender service members would be “relatively low” — that is, relative to total military expenditure on health care. But a closer look at the numbers in the study reveals that the health care costs of transgenders who choose to undergo gender transition treatment in the military would be some 14 times higher than the average health care costs of service members in general.

State to subsidize entry into offshore wind supply chain
Despite offshore wind being far from a done deal, following the introduction of a potentially lethal measure by shore’s congressional representative, Dr. Andy Harris (R-1), the state’s energy administration has secured $600,000 in grants to start a new business or to expand an existing one in Maryland.
“This is important for businesses in Worcester interested in getting into this new industry,” Worcester County Director of Economic Development Merry Mears, said.
Applications, due by Sept. 1 and available via www.energy.maryland.gov, are divided into two main areas of interest: market entry assistance and capital expenditures and facilities upgrades.
The grants are intended to provide a gateway for local businesses to begin to compete in the global offshore energy generation market, and are not limited to the two wind farms that gained Public Service Commission approval this spring. Though the regulatory path for offshore wind turbines in the waters off Ocean City has been mostly cleared, the turbine side of the equation, the one that requires replacement parts and maintenance, is still a couple of years away.

Ron Paul: Trump Should Veto Congress' Foolish New Sanctions Bill
This week’s expected House vote to add more sanctions on Russia, Iran, and North Korea is a prime example of how little thought goes into US foreign policy. Sanctions have become kind of an automatic action the US government takes when it simply doesn’t know what else to do.
No matter what the problem, no matter where on earth it occurs, the answer from Washington is always sanctions. Sanctions are supposed to force governments to change policies and do what Washington tells them or face the wrath of their people. So the goal of sanctions is to make life as miserable as possible for civilians so they will try to overthrow their governments. Foreign leaders and the elites do not suffer under sanctions. This policy would be immoral even if it did work, but it does not.

Ex-SEAL Gilliam: Transgender Ban in Military Good For 'Mission Readiness'
President Donald Trump's decision to ban transgenders from serving in the military comes down to mission readiness and standards, former Navy SEAL Jonathan T. Gilliam told Newsmax TV.
During an appearance on "Newsmax Now," Gilliam told host Bill Tucker the president has this one right.
"I'm glad to see that social experimentation has taken a back seat to mission readiness," Gilliam said. "Last year … I was reading a report where it said over $3 billion had been spent on transgender reassignment surgery and hormone replacement inside the DoD.
"We have to understand something here. There are standards and then there's discrimination. And we have to stick by the standards, whatever it takes to make this military, which is a fighting machine, to run as streamline as possible. It has nothing to do with judging people or fairness."

Local politician can’t ban constituents from Facebook page – judge
A federal court in Virginia has ruled that a politician violated a constituent’s free speech rights when she blocked him from her Facebook page. The ruling could impact a similar case involving President Donald Trump banning Twitter users.
US District Judge James Cacheris in Alexandria, Virginia, ruled on Tuesday that a Facebook page of Loudoun County Chairwoman Phyllis Randall (D-At Large) “operates as a forum for speech under the First Amendment to the US Constitution,”according to a copy of the decision obtained by the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University.
The ruling comes from a lawsuit filed by Brian Davison who sued Randall in February of last year after he was banned from the “Chair Phyllis J. Randall” Facebook page for around eight hours. Davison was still able to read and share content posted to the pages, but could not post comments or send private messages to Randall.
Cacheris ruled that the consequences of Randall’s actions were “fairly minor,” however, he said that she committed "a cardinal sin under the First Amendment."
“The court holds only that under the specific circumstances presented here, [the] defendant violated the First Amendment by engaging in viewpoint discrimination and banning plaintiff from a digital forum for criticizing her colleagues in the county government,” Cacheris wrote.
Randall said she temporarily blocked Davison after he posted comments critical comments “attacking the family members of the Loudoun County School Board.”
“I value our right to free speech and I have fought to defend that right,”Chair Randall said in a statement. “The court’s decision, however, does not mean that people should make disparaging, untrue, or slanderous remarks about elected officials or their family members on social media.”

Hogan Administration Announces New Reforms to Vehicle Emissions Inspection Program
Implements Recommendation from Governor’s Regulatory Reform Commission, Plan to Save Customers $2.25 Million Per Year
ANNAPOLIS, MD – Governor Larry Hogan today announced regulatory reforms that will save Maryland taxpayers time and money, as well as protect the health of our environment, through common sense changes to the Motor Vehicle Administration’s (MVA) Vehicle Emissions Inspection Program (VEIP). The changes include extending initial VEIP inspections for new vehicles by one year. This announcement implements a recommendation from the governor’s Regulatory Reform Commission’s 2016 report, released in December.
The 2016 report tasked the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) and Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) to amend VEIP regulations to expand the use of emerging technologies and provide opportunities to enact driver-friendly improvements.
“Our administration remains committed to enacting common sense solutions that provide increased value for Maryland taxpayers and improve customer service, while protecting the health of our environment,” said Governor Hogan. “This change will put more than $2 million back into the pockets of Maryland taxpayers and maintain critical environmental protections.”
Numerous advancements in vehicle technology over the years have allowed for streamlined VEIP regulations. For example, computerized on-board diagnostic testing is now occurring on the overwhelming majority of vehicles in Maryland.
By extending the initial VEIP inspection for new vehicles by one year, new vehicles will have to complete the initial inspection within 36 months. Currently, new vehicle owners must complete the initial test within two years. All pre-1996 model year light duty vehicles (cars and light trucks) would also be exempt from VEIP inspections. An on-board diagnostic test will continue to be conducted on 1996 and newer light-duty vehicles, as well as 2008 and newer medium and heavy-duty vehicles.
"These targeted improvements for vehicle emissions testing increase customer convenience, while maintaining our progress on air quality and the Chesapeake Bay," said Maryland Department of the Environment Secretary Ben Grumbles.

Trump to declare war on MS-13 gang
President Trump on Friday will visit Long Island, New York, an epicenter of the MS-13 street gang violence, to call on Congress to fully fund the crack down on illegal immigration that is key to stamping out the gang.
“He’s going to be rallying Congress to fully support what we in the administration want to do to end this threat once and for all,” said a senior White House official.
For the fight, the president wants thousands of more U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers, more immigration judges, laws for quicker deportations and penalties for sanctuary cities, said the official.
“He’s sending a message to every local police officer, every sheriff, every state trooper and every ICE officer in America that this this administration has their back and that it is encouraging them to work with us collaboratively to identify and remove gang members from their communities,” said the White House official.
The Trump administration has made taking down MS-13 a new focus of it’s hardline approach to illegal immigration.

Breaking News: Russia seized two American diplomatic properties and ordered the U.S. Embassy to cut its staff in retaliatory steps for new sanctions
Russia on Friday seized two American diplomatic properties and ordered the United States Embassy in Moscow to reduce its staff by September, the government’s first retaliatory steps against new American sanctions.
The move, which Russia had been threatening for weeks, came a day after the United States Senate approved a law expanding economic sanctions against Russia, as well as Iran and North Korea.
The law, mirroring one passed by the House of Representatives on Tuesday, now goes to President Trump for his signature.
The statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry said the United States Embassy was asked to reduce its diplomatic and technical staff throughout Russia to 455 by Sept. 1, matching the number of Russian diplomats in the United States.
15 Million Americans Would Opt-Out Of Obamacare.. If They Could
If the individual mandate were to be repealed and Americans were no longer required to purchase the Obamacare-mandated levels of health insurance coverage, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) believes that 15 million Americans would no longer purchase such coverage
Some, including Jonathan Gruber, believe that the CBO is overestimating the impact of repealing the mandate. Gruber was one of the architects of the healthcare law.
Politically, the impact of these projections is significant since the individual mandate has long been the most unpopular part of Obamacare. Recent polling shows that two-thirds of Americans would like to see it repealed. For many, the idea of the government forcing anybody to buy anything is in conflict with America’s commitment to individual freedom.
Additionally, if the CBO projections are correct, there are 15 million Americans who would directly benefit from the repeal.Typically, when people are directly impacted by a law, their support or opposition is more intense than that of more casual observers.
On the other hand, if Gruber is correct, the Republican plans to repeal and replace Obamacare would have a much smaller impact than the CBO expects.
If the individual mandate were to be repealed, many Americans might be interested in purchasing less comprehensive and less expensive coverage. The CBO has offered no estimates of how many might take advantage of such alternatives. It is currently illegal for insurance companies to offer less expensive plans offering less comprehensive coverage.

Five Major Problems With Washington Post Hit Piece On Jeff Sessions
Citing alleged U.S. intelligence intercepts leaked by current and former U.S. officials, the Washington Post reported that Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak told his superiors at the Kremlin that he discussed issues related to the 2016 presidential campaign with Jeff Sessions, despite the attorney general’s assertions to the contrary.
The Post article, published last Friday, was used by Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the ranking Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, to call on Sessions to once again testify before the panel, this time to answer claims made in the Post piece.
The article is titled, “Sessions discussed Trump campaign-related matters with Russian ambassador, U.S. intelligence intercepts show.”
The piece contains misleading information, omits key details that may discredit the article’s major assertions, and relies on possibly distorted intercepts as the basis for the central charges.
Here, in no particular order, are five major problems with the highly cited Washington Post article.

Perseid Meteor Shower 2017: When, Where & How to See It
The peak of the Perseid Meteor Shower is coming in just a few weeks! According to NASA meteor expert Bill Cooke, the Perseids are perhaps the most popular meteor shower of the year. Typical rates are about 80 meteors an hour, but in outburst years (such as in 2016) the rate can be between 150-200 meteors an hour.
In 2017, the Perseids will be a little more difficult to see due to the presence of the moon, which will be three-quarters full and will rise shortly before the shower hits its peak around midnight local time. (Live in a big city? Find out how to see the Perseids from urban areas here from our sister site Active Junky.)
"Rates will be about half what they would be normally, because of the bright moonlight," Cooke told Space.com. "Instead of 80 to 100, [there will be] 40 to 50 per hour. And that's just because the moon's going to wash out the fainter ones."
"But the good news is that the Perseids are rich in fireballs; otherwise the moon would really mess with them," Cooke added.
