*** This special bulletin is posted in an effort to make the University community aware of situations that pose a potential threat to the safety and well being of those who live, work, study and visit the campus. By keeping you aware of crimes occurring in your community, the University Police hope to encourage you to become actively involved in crime prevention.

The following personal safety tips apply wherever one resides. Taking precautions may lessen the likelihood of becoming a victim. Increasing awareness of crime prevention techniques may decrease the opportunity for a person to commit a criminal offense against you.

If you feel uncomfortable walking alone on campus or to nearby off-campus locations during the hours of darkness, call University Police for an escort (410-543-6222).

Basic Personal Safety Tips:

1. Stay alert. You are your own best protection.
2. Trust your instincts. If something or someone makes your feel uneasy, use your cell phone to call 911 for police assistance.
3. Do not walk or jog alone after dark. Walk in groups, there is safety in numbers.
4. Walk in well-lit areas and stay near the curb, away from alleys, entry ways and bushes where someone could be hiding.
5. Avoid short cuts. Walk where there are other people present.
6. Let a family member or friend know your destination and estimated time of arrival.
7. Walk confidently, directly, and at a steady pace. Make eye contact with everyone you pass. Don't talk to strangers.
8. Wear clothing and shoes that give you freedom of movement. Avoid carrying a purse or too many items.
9. If you are being followed when walking, change directions, vary speed. Go to a well-lit area where there are other people. If followed by someone in a car, turn and walk in the other direction. Record the license number.
10. Report any suspicious activity or crimes to your local police department.

Please report any suspicious activity or suspicious person to the police department immediately. If possible, use a cellular phone to call 911 while maintaining visual observation of the subject(s).

Two black males! Why do they think that we owe them something that we worked hard for - money! It would be easier for them to go out and get a job like most people do and then they would not have to steal from other people!
I just happen to live in that area so now I am fearful to even walk outside my front door fearing they are somewhere nearby lurking.

Hmm I feel safe calling them. maybe Chief Lashley needs to view the video of his cops watching a fight between students on DogWood doesnt get much closer then that. The Sheriff's Office and SPD handled it the Campus car just sat there away from the scene just like it did prior to the other cops showing up. maybe there is some logical reason for this but I can not think of one that looks good on Campus Security

Buy a gun drop em in thier tracks do that a couple of times the stuff will slow wayyyy down. I allways say never bring a bat to a gun fight. If we the people dont start protecting ourselves there is not enough police out there to be every where at once. They should have a plug a thug week!! I for one hope they rob me i got a little something for em. Wonder if the victims are white they never put that out there but, if a white guy does the crime on a black oh hell yea something will be said. Where is that Death Wish dude when you need him. LOL.

Things are going to worse as the holidays get nearer. Desperate people do desperate things. Some may need money to live and others need money for drugs. Just be careful if you are out shopping or even coming home! If you see someone that you would not normally see where you live..wait in the car or drive away and come back home. And if you have a cell phone..even if you don't call 911, make like you are and make eye contact with the strangers so they think you can describe them. Otherwise...make sure your gun is loaded.

young white folks with money=easy pickins

I said it before in a previous comment to a previous article on here, that crime would rise as this is the holiday season. Crime always spikes this time of year. Lets be honest here not to justify anything criminal activity but these kids have got to be smarter. How many times to these basic steps to ensuring ones safety have to be posted? Furthermore, trust no one, and damn sure don't trust them late at night. This city is going to hell in a hand basic dipped in gasoline.

The rich white kids are afraid of the black thugs and give up their money upon demand. The white dudes of Salisbury need to kick some black ass and take back their town.

If this happened in Virginia, Deleware, Pennsylvania, or West Virginia, all states bordering the Socialist Republic of MD, those college students could have protected themselves with a legal concealed handgun. Anonymous 8:04 if you use a handgun out of your residence without a concealed carry permit (which is impossible for the average MD citizen to obtain) you will go to jail along with the wounded assailant.

little known fact: most of seagull lane is occupied by SU football players

Wait for all the burglaries after the semester is over. A few forced, but a ton of them with unsecured windows, doors, vehicles. Crime of opportunity. They also have these big free for all parties and allow anyone in. What happens is the thugs and thief wanna be's scope out the homes whit access granted by the owners. Wonder why they chose your house? Its well known most college kids leave the area for several weeks on end during breaks.

Just think this problem will be eliminated once Obama becomes president. Remember Obama is going to give these fine young men your tax dollars so they won't have to rob to support their drug habits. Thus lower crime. Vote Obama!
