Earlier this month, the Washington Post reported that the homicide rate in Washington, D.C., in 2019 was higher than it was in 2018. There were 166 people killed in 2019, compared to 160 in 2018. In fact, the 2019 D.C. homicide rate is the highest number since 2008.
But isn’t that impossible? After all, our nation’s capital has one of the strictest gun-control laws in the United States.
The Post points out, “D.C. Police Chief Peter Newsham has identified illegal firearms as a major factor fueling homicides.”
But how is that possible? Given that the city has such strict gun-control laws, how is it possible that people are still being killed by guns?
The answer is very simple. People who are willing to murder people don’t give a hoot about gun-control laws. Why should they? If they get caught, prosecuted, and convicted of murder, they are going to have to serve a very long jail term, maybe even life in prison. They know that. What difference does it make if a judge adds another 5 years for violating some gun-control law?

How drinking one cup of black tea or a glass of red wine each night could HALVE your risk of dementia (and scientists say eating kale and broccoli can also ward off the disease)
Drinking tea and red wine with plenty of kale could slash the risk of Alzheimer's disease, a study suggests.
The products are rich in chemicals called flavonols, among many other nutrients which may support brain health.
Researchers at Rush University in Chicago tracked more than 900 older people for up to 12 years after asking them about their diets.
Those who consumed the most flavonols - around one cup of black tea a day - were half as likely to develop Alzheimer's.

Parties must move on from Trump impeachment — or end in mutual destruction: Goodwin
As part of his closing remarks Tuesday, Jay Sekulow, a defense attorney for President Trump, urged senators to put themselves in Trump’s shoes. It was an odd but interesting challenge.
When you accept it, the view from there is a series of unhappy flashbacks. It starts with Trump’s 2016 campaign being investigated by the FBI. Before he took office, then bureau Director James Comey showed Trump parts of the Steele dossier, calling it “salacious and unverified.”
Said Sekulow, “It was so salacious and unverified, the FBI had used it to get FISA warrants” to spy on the campaign.

Elizabeth Warren Made Millions Helping Corporations Evade Their Pension and Healthcare Obligations
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) has a well-documented history of working for the benefit of the big corporations she routinely rails against, largely building her multimillion-dollar fortune by assisting corporations in navigating the bankruptcy laws she helped pen, Breitbart News senior contributor, bestselling author, and Government Accountability Institute (GAI) President Peter Schweizer reveals in his investigative bombshell Profiles in Corruption: Abuse of Power by America’s Progressive Elite.
Because of her legal expertise on bankruptcy laws, Warren advised the National Bankruptcy Review Commission in 1995, acting as a “key advisor on an obscure but profoundly important section of the bankruptcy law called U.S.C. 524(g), which dealt with mass tort bankruptcies of corporations and had to do specifically with asbestos companies.” She would go on to advise companies facing such troubles and financially benefit from their legal woes. She made $212,000 by assisting insurance giant Travelers, which sought immunity from asbestos-related lawsuits, alone.
The revisions to the laws she helped author “had enormous positive ramifications for America’s largest corporations,” allowing “financially healthy corporations to start using bankruptcies as a way to avoid liability from legal suits,” Profiles in Corruption details.

Wuhan evacuee tries to walk off California military base halfway through mandatory 72-hour coronavirus observation period - forcing officials to issue quarantine order
A passenger on the US evacuation flight from the coronavirus outbreak epicenter in Wuhan has reportedly tried to leave a California military base less than halfway through a mandatory 72-hour observation period.
Riverside County Health officials issued a quarantine order requiring the passenger to remain at March Air Reserve Base on Thursday.
The subject of the order, who was not identified, was one of 195 passengers who landed at the base in Riverside on Wednesday morning on a flight chartered by the State Department to remove US diplomats and private citizens from the virus-stricken Chinese city of Wuhan.
All of the passengers are being monitored for coronavirus symptoms on the base for 72 hours to ensure they do not pose a risk to the public.

New owner of foreclosed house in Maryland finds the body of its previous resident inside as a neighbor says the woman, 39, had special needs and lived without electricity and heat after relatives stopped visiting months ago
The new owner of a house in Maryland has discovered the dead body of its previous resident inside, after acquiring the home in a foreclosure auction.
A neighbor says the 39-year-old woman found deceased inside the District Heights house Saturday had special needs and was cared for by her grandmother who died about a year ago.
The man who lived across the road from the property said soon after the grandmother's death, relatives stopped visiting but she had a caretaker up until a few months ago.
Then utilities were gradually shut off in the height of winter.

Virginia Congress Continues Gun Control Frenzy With 9 More Bills, Ignores Massive Protest
Despite a massive and peaceful turnout on the Lobby Day rally on January 20th, the Virginia State Congress remained totally unphased by what the people wanted and proceeded to advance numerous unconstitutional gun laws over the following week.
While everyone has been focused on the Wuhan coronavirus, state lawmakers have been quietly eroding gun rights.
“Red Flag” gun law passed
Proving they don’t care at all about the opinions of the people of Virginia, the state’s Senate passed a “red flag” gun law only two days later. Here’s the summary of SB240.

A Bill of Rights for Students 2020
Given the many counterproductive ideas that sweep through education, given all the endless, murky debates conducted in our media, it is helpful for the American people to focus on what, at a minimum, young people are entitled to in our schools:
1) THE RIGHT TO LEARN TO READ. All progress in education depends on literacy. It is imperative that children learn the alphabet and the sounds early, and that they are reading in the first grade. Children have a right to be reading age-appropriate books by the second or third grade.
2) THE RIGHT TO MASTER BASIC ARITHMETIC. Again, as fads have undermined effective teaching for many decades, millions of children never learn how to add, subtract, multiply and divide. These are such basic skills--easy enough to teach, easy to test. If administrators can’t ensure that all children can do these essential things, find other administrators.
3) THE RIGHT TO WRITE, IN BOTH SENSES. One essential goal in the first years of schooling is to be able to write a small essay or a letter to grandmother, signed with a real signature. Cursive handwriting, according to many experts, is an indispensable assist in learning to read, write, and spell.

NEWSREADER LOSES HIS JOB OF 30 YEARS FOR QUOTING SHAKESPEARE AT A BLACK PERSON
Veteran British newsreader Alastair Stewart has lost his job of 30 years after quoting a Shakespeare passage to a black man that included the word “ape,” despite the fact that he had previously directed the same tweet to a white person.
Broadcaster ITN said Stewart had made “errors of judgment” is his use of social media that breached editorial guidelines.
The controversy was over a Twitter response Stewart sent to a black man in which he quoted a passage from Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure;

VEXIT: West Virginia extends 158-year-old invitation for unhappy Virginians to join state
LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) -- West Virginia became its own state in 1863 in the middle of the Civil War.
Creation of the West Virginia/Virginia border required multiple elections, including a decision by President Lincoln to override objections by half of his cabinet, and a Supreme Court decision validating an irregular election. In the end, 50 counties would be incorporated into a new state, and 99 counties would be left behind in the remnant of Virginia.
West Virginia is the only state to be formed by seceding from a Confederate state.
Some Virginia border counties were given the choice to become part of the new state if their residents approved. Berkeley and Jefferson counties gave their nod, siding with the Union.

Chief Justice John Roberts Shuts Down Rand Paul’s Question on Alleged ‘Whistleblower’
Supreme Court Justice John Roberts on Wednesday blocked an attempt by Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) to pose questions regarding the so-called “whistleblower” — the individual who sparked the House Democrats’ partisan impeachment inquiry of President Donald Trump — according to reports.
Politico and The Hill state Roberts indicated he would oppose reading Paul’s questions, as it is believed he would be forced to name or provide identifying information on the alleged individual.
Speaking to reporters following a Republican dinner, Paul signaled he may still fight to have his question read.
“It’s still an ongoing process; it may happen tomorrow,” he told reporters.
However, other Senate Republicans, include Senate Majority Whip John Thune (R-SD), appear to have sided with Roberts over Paul.
“I don’t think that happens, and I guess I would hope that it doesn’t,” Thune said when asked if the so-called “whistleblower” will be named.
Roberts has not offered any legal argument for hiding the individual’s identity. As Breitbart News has repeatedly explained, the only statutory protection for people who submit whistleblower complaints is that the intelligence community inspector general (ICIG) cannot name him or her publicly:
Even left-wing mainstream media outlets—CNN, the New York Times, National Public Radio (NPR), and Reuters — determined that, certainly, no law prohibits President Donald Trump or members of Congress from disclosing the name of the leaker who sparked the impeachment inquiry.

World Health Organization declares coronavirus outbreak a global health emergency
The World Health Organization on Thursday declared the new coronavirus outbreak a global emergency amid the recent jump in the number of infected patients.
"The main reason is not what is happening in China but what is happening in other countries," WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced at a news conference in Geneva, Switzerland.
"Our greatest concern is the potential for the virus to spread to countries with weaker health systems, and which are ill-prepared to deal with it," Ghebreyesus added.

'Mind Boggling': Take a Look at These Demographic Numbers From Trump's New Jersey Rally
Tuesday night President Trump traveled to deep blue New Jersey for a campaign rally. Despite freezing temperatures in the middle of winter, people camped out a day ahead of his remarks in order to make it inside the arena.
According to Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale, over a quarter of registered attendees were democrats. Another significant portion of people have never voted before.
The demographics of the New Jersey rally are reflective of President Trump's previous rallies in Michigan, Pennsylvania, New Mexico, Minnesota and elsewhere.

Criminalizing free speech online? Elizabeth Warren has a plan for that
Elizabeth Warren has a plan for that. And by “that,” I mean a chilling crackdown on free speech in the name of combating disinformation online.
On Wednesday, the 2020 candidate released a plan that would impose criminal and civil penalties on those who are deemed guilty of spreading “disinformation.” In a tweet unveiling the plan, she said, “Disinformation and online foreign interference erode our democracy, and Donald Trump has invited both.” The Massachusetts Democrat continued, “Anyone who seeks to challenge and defeat Donald Trump in the 2020 election must be fully prepared to take this on—and I've got a plan to do it.”
There is a real issue with people believing fake or misleading information they see online. And it is true that Russian actors exploited this trend in an attempt to sway or at least influence people's thinking during the 2016 presidential election, even though there’s little evidence they actually made any difference (beyond getting a few thousand clicks on odd Jesus-themed pro-Trump memes and other silly content).

Fired Ukrainian Prosecutor Viktor Shokin FILES FEDERAL COMPLAINT Against Joe Biden
After leaving office in 2017, Vice President Joe Biden Bragged about strong-arming the government of Ukraine to fire its top prosecutor.
Joe Biden made the remarks during a meeting of foreign policy specialists. Biden said he, “Threatened Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko in March 2016 that the Obama administration would pull $1 billion in U.S. loan guarantees, sending the former Soviet republic toward insolvency, if it didn’t immediately fire Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin.” Biden suggested during his talk that Barack Obama was in on the threat.
In April John Solomon revealed what Biden did not tell his audience. Joe Biden had Shokin fired because he was investigating Joe Biden’s son Hunter.

US border officials find 4,309-foot-long tunnel from Mexico to California
Border Patrol agents in California say a cross-border tunnel that stretched thousands of feet from Tijuana, Mexico, into the United States is the longest one ever found on the southern border and was likely used to smuggle drugs into the country.
U.S. officials on Wednesday announced the discovery of more than a mile-and-a-half of underground hallways that secretly connected both countries. The entrance on the Mexican side to the tunnel originated in an industrial area, close to the Otay Mesa Port of Entry border crossing, which is south of San Diego, California. It stretched three-quarters of a mile, or 4,309 feet, to the United States, and the U.S. entrance was concealed near the set of warehouses near that same large border crossing checkpoint. It had an additional 3,529-foot tunnel offshoot that also went under the border and into the U.S. but did not have an opening on the U.S. side.
The longest tunnel on record until now was discovered in San Diego in 2014 and was just under 3,000 feet long.

ADAM SCHIFF LIES TO SENATE ABOUT ‘WHISTLEBLOWER’ DURING IMPEACHMENT TRIAL
House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff brazenly lied to the Senate body during the ongoing impeachment trial of President Trump by denying he knew the identity of the so-called “whistleblower” who sparked the Democrats’ latest impeachment push.
Schiff denied having any contact with the “whistleblower” when answering a question from Ted Cruz about whether that whistleblower worked “with Biden on anything related to Burisma or the firing of the Ukrainian prosecutor.”
“First of all, I don’t know who the whistleblower is,” Schiff said. “I haven’t met them or communicated with them in any way.”

Rashida Tlaib fails to apologize or correct her anti-Semitism
Three days after the “unbossed” Rep. Rashida Tlaib once again used her platform to spread hateful misinformation to her nearly 900,000 Twitter followers, the Michigan Democrat has finally issued a statement that fell far short of either an apology or a correction.
Instead of taking the blame or even admitting her error, she merely blamed fake news for a retweet that fulfilled her own prejudiced view of Israeli Jews, and, instead of spreading the word that, no, Israelis didn't kill an innocent Palestinian child, she let anyone who saw her false retweet believe in a lie.
On Jan. 25, Tlaib retweeted Palestinian legislator Hanan Ashrawi’s emotional retweet of an accusation, which many have diagnosed as anti-Semitic blood libel, that 8-year-old Palestinian Qais Abu Ramila was kidnapped and killed by Israeli settlers after disappearing from his Beit Hanina, Israel, home on Jan. 24.

2020 Democrats' pitch to independents and Republicans falling flat
IOWA FALLS, Iowa — In a primary marked by its sharp turn to the political Left, a handful of 2020 Democrats are pedaling their appeal to Republicans and independents in their closing arguments before next week's Iowa caucuses, with mixed results.
Joe Biden, Pete Buttigieg, Amy Klobuchar, and even Elizabeth Warren are pitching their potential to broaden the Democratic tent by adding Republicans and independents unimpressed with President Trump to the fold should one of them become the party's nominee.
Buttigieg, for one, is spending his time prior to the Feb. 3 kickoff caucuses making up to five stops a day in Iowa counties that voted for both former President Barack Obama and Trump.

Working Class Voters Turn to Trump’s GOP: ‘Democrats Weren’t Looking Out for Me’
Working-class Americans who have been betrayed by globalization of the United States’ economy are turning to President Trump’s economic nationalist Republican Party for support.
A report by the New York Times details the shift among U.S. voters. Trump’s GOP is increasingly made up of the working and lower-middle-class devastated by the free trade policies of 30 years, while Democrats represent affluent suburbia and major cities that have bounced back since the Great Recession.
Shawn Hoskins, for example, of Dayton, Ohio was a staunch Democrat voter until 2012, when he switched parties. Hoskins told the Times he “liked the way things were going” when he worked at General Motors’ (GM) Moraine Assembly plant until his livelihood was upended by GM’s decision to close the plant in 2008:
In a way Mr. Hoskins feels betrayed: In the face of economic insecurity, his loyalty to the union and the Democratic Party did not protect him. And the Republicans were an increasingly attractive alternative.
…
But at the end of the day, “when it came time for the doors to shut at G.M., the Democrats weren’t looking out for me,” Mr. Hoskins said. “Losing my job opened my eyes. I had to pay attention to other things going on in the world.”

Coronavirus: 2 Miami University students await test results
OXFORD, Ohio — It is wait-and-see time in Ohio, where there are no confirmed cases of coronavirus. But that lack of confirmation does not mean there's a lack of concern about the possibility.
Health officials have tested two Miami University students who recently traveled to China. There have been more than 100 deaths from the illness in that country. Both Miami students have been isolated off campus as they await word about test results.
Most other students are going about their daily routines in normal fashion. There are some wearing face masks, both on campus and in Uptown.
Freshman Kate Goodwin told us: "I've thought about it. But I mean, unless the tests come back positive, then I don't -- I'm not necessarily, like, super-worried right now until, like, we find out more information."
Bing Yue and Yuang Chen, both juniors, wear masks at times even though health authorities have stated it's not necessary.
Miami conducted classes and events as scheduled Wednesday. Students checked their smartphones seemingly nonstop.
"It's all over social media," said Justin Devilbiss, another freshman. "There's memes everywhere, Twitter, TikTok."

Healthcare access has declined in past two decades, despite Obamacare: Study
Financial access to healthcare services has declined over the past two decades, despite the implementation of Obamacare and other government insurance programs, according to a new study.
The analysis, published in JAMA Internal Medicine, traces the drop in access to the rise in premiums, deductibles, co-pays, and other costs, which have weighed against higher insurance coverage. It concludes that "over the past 20 years, the proportion of adults aged 18 to 64 years unable to see a physician owing to cost increased, mostly because of an increase among persons with insurance."
The authors, three doctors, interpret the results as evidence in favor of government-financed healthcare.

Ashley Biden organization received $166K federal grant while father was vice president
A Delaware nonprofit organization received a $166,000 federal grant about the same time it appointed then-Vice President Joe Biden’s daughter as executive director, according to government and tax records.
In September 2014, the Delaware Center for Justice was selected for a competitive two-year grant by the U.S. Department of Justice through the federal Edward Byrne Memorial grant program, which Biden helped steer significant funding to as vice president and senator.
His daughter, Ashley Biden, 38, had been associate director of the Delaware Center for Justice for about a year at the time. Two months after the grant selection, the nonprofit organization announced that she had been promoted to executive director.

NAFTA replaced: Trump signs USMCA trade deal with Canada and Mexico
President Trump signed the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement on trade Wednesday, overriding the 1993 North American Free Trade Agreement and fulfilling one of his 2016 campaign promises.
"Today, we finally end the NAFTA nightmare," Trump said at a White House signing event while surrounded by hard-hat wearing supporters. The president argued USMCA would give workers a fairer deal by making companies invest more in the United States rather than outsourcing. "This is something we really put our hearts into. It is probably the main reason why I chose to live this crazy life."
The deal keeps most of NAFTA intact but adds provisions aimed at ending outsourcing of manufacturing jobs to Mexico, limiting the use of supply chains abroad, and opening up Canada to more U.S. farm goods, such as dairy products. The deal is a big win for the technology industry, which got protections for digital trade, prohibitions on forced data localization, and enhanced copyright provisions.

China Claims Wuhan Virus Spread Is Miraculously Declining, Defying Experts
China’s National Health Commission claimed on Wednesday the rate of infection for the new deadly coronavirus originating in central Wuhan city is miraculously declining, directly contradicting estimates by public health experts the spread will continue to accelerate and peak only after a few months and finally begin declining in the summer.
Researchers at Northeastern University and the University of Hong Kong issued separate statements Tuesday predicting the outbreak will take at the very least months to subside. Both estimated the real number of people infected by the virus is in the tens of thousands, a far cry from the 6,151 cases worldwide that the Chinese Communist Party and World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed at the end of Wednesday.
The Global Times, a Chinese state propaganda outlet, claimed on Wednesday authorities had found a “gleam of hope” in ten provinces that documented a slower rate of infection than they had the day before. It notably included Hong Kong and Macau, autonomous regions that have imposed different measures from those in China, and Taiwan, a sovereign state with no ties to Beijing, in its count of “provinces” that saw a decline in transmission.

Maryland's BS Laws Referencing Styrofoam Legislation
Don't you find it extremely interesting how our Legislators created the new law banning Styrofoam usage from all Maryland restaurant businesses. Even if you manufacture/sell Eggs in the sate of Maryland you cannot sell and deliver them in Styrofoam, yet if you are from out of state you can! Allow me to top that. Get this, look at the chicken producers. Interesting how their products are sold with Styrofoam packaging. Can you say Good Ol' Boy? I will admit that Perdue is working on a better way to distribute their products down the road. However, keep in mind, Perdue is only planning on doing around 30% of its packaging with this new product. Legislators are allowing companies to produce products with Styrofoam, just not the egg industry within the state.
I'll go one further. Our Legislators are in fact allowing any and all shipping companies to continue to ship their products in Maryland with Styrofoam, including peanut shaped Styrofoam. We ALL know how bad that stuff becomes airborne.
Have you ever noticed how none of your mainstream media have made any mention of this? As I've stated in past articles referencing Styrofoam, it's amazing how these Legislators can quickly and easily create such laws, yet they never think of solutions! These Idiots in Annapolis never compared the cost difference. Instead they created a campaign telling people how airborne they are, trying to get you to believe it is as bad as plastic bags, yet they didn't ban plastic bags! There is legislation this year in Annapolis to also ban plastic bags.
So each consumer can expect a huge increase in their to go order costs because of the cost difference in packaging. Here's what I find even more hilarious. I get food to go and in almost every single restaurant I go to and almost all restaurants are using black hard plastic with clear lids. These products are not recyclable either. You may THINK they are because most people, (including the Idiot Legislators) aren't educated about what is or isn't recyclable.
DO NOT EVER reheat your food in those hard plastic containers, EVER! There should be serious warning labels on them as it too is crap plastic and the toxic chemicals in that plastic will spread into your food.
Effective July 1, 2020 ALL restaurants can no longer use Styrofoam.
If cigarette manufacturers are forced to put warnings on each package, plastic containers should have the same referencing reheating. DO NOT REHEAT FOOD PRODUCTS IN THIS CONTAINER AS IT CAN CAUSE CANCER.
As many of you know I'm in the restaurant business. I have done an in depth comparison concerning let's say sugar cane to go containers vs. the black plastic containers. Sugar cane is three times more expensive then Styrofoam and the black plastic is between FIVE to NINE times more expensive. The sugar cane product is biodegradable while the black plastic is not.
Our local media needs to do a better job educating the public about different types of plastic that are and are not recyclable.

Elizabeth Warren Rips Christian Schools About ‘Anti-LGBTQ+ Policies’
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) tweeted a link to a HuffPo article to tout her condemnation of Christian schools that, she claims, hold “anti-LGBTQ+ policies.”
“States should focus on funding public schools, not private ones – especially not ones that maintain anti-LGBTQ+ policies,” Warren tweeted. “We must ensure every kid – especially LGBTQ+ kids – can get a high quality public education.”
A CNSNews blog post Monday brought attention to the Democrat 2020 candidate’s tweet, in which Warren refers to “anti-LGBTQ+ policies,” as cited in the HuffPo article, such as bathroom use consistent with one’s biological sex, and adherence to a Christian view of marriage between one man and one woman.

Coronavirus: 2 Miami University students await test results
Lungs have the 'magical' ability to replace cancerous mutations caused by smoking with healthy cells – if you kick the habit, scientists say.
Researchers found that, compared with current smokers, those who gave up had more 'genetically healthy' lung cells.
The researchers, from the Wellcome Sanger Institute and University College London, have a much lower risk of developing into cancer and highlight the benefits of stopping smoking completely.
