Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo said on Sunday that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senate Intel Chairman Richard Burr led the charge against Trump’s choice for DNI, GOP Rep. John Ratcliffe.
Maria Bartiromo told former Congressman Trey Gowdy on Sunday that her sources told her that McConnell and Burr blew off Ratcliffe after Trump nominated him to be the next Director of National Intelligence.
“Here’s what my sources are telling me — I am hearing that Mitch McConnell and Richard Burr basically blew him off. He called them to have a meeting with them and he said ‘oh no no no we’re busy, we have the budget, we can’t do it.” Bartiromo told Gowdy on “Sunday Morning Futures.”
Bartiromo the said that the GOP leaders felt they couldn’t get RINO Senator Susan Collins (ME) on board.

I Know From Experience This Urban Agenda Would Lift Baltimore and Other Cities
You may not like the messenger, but embedded in the recent political dust-up about the crime, poverty, and despair in Baltimore were some undeniable truths.
If nothing else comes out of this latest debate, the bright light is now shining on a very inconvenient reality: Liberal policies have failed the people of Baltimore and inner cities everywhere.
As the daughter of a former welfare recipient who spent my early years growing up in government housing, I know the truth of that statement more than most.
For decades, politicians have repeatedly promised urban communities good jobs, good schools, and safe neighborhoods. Instead, they have delivered policies that actually increase crime, degrade educational standards, and make it harder to get work.
The debate this incident has sparked sadly takes me back to a few years ago, when I was at my niece Ashley’s funeral service. Ashley was a product of the inner city. She was 32 years old when she died of a drug overdose.
She started out as a beautiful, strong, and intelligent young girl who had so much promise. But like so many others who grew up in that environment, she became disengaged from school, started hanging out with the wrong crowd, and began using drugs.
As I sat in the pew that day, I thought: Why does this keep happening in my community and what is it going to take to finally stop it?

After Trump’s tweets, conservative activist leads neighborhood clean-up in West Baltimore
Many a morning, 58-year-old Millie Jefferson finds herself outside her home in West Baltimore, sweeping her front steps and picking up trash on her block. Monday, she had some unexpected visitors.
Dozens of volunteers gathered near her home on North Fulton Avenue and started bagging garbage and weeding, too. They were inspired by Scott Presler, a Republican activist from Northern Virginia who started a social media campaign to help clean up Baltimore’s 7th district in the wake of President Donald Trump’s tweets about it last weekend.
“We can’t do it alone,” Jefferson said. “It makes me feel good to see that there are still some good people and good communities that want to see better.”

Magdalena Bujalski, of Winnipeg, blamed the cold weather when she developed the symptom at the end of January.
When she eventually saw a doctor, her cough was dismissed as bronchitis and she was prescribed antibiotics.
However, the medic recommended she have an X-ray to be on the safe side, which revealed an unusual mass on Miss Bujalski's right lung.
This led to her being diagnosed with advanced Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma on March 15.

Texas Lt. Gov. laments video games, social media after El Paso shooting
Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick pointed Sunday to the video game industry and social media as areas to look into after a mass shooting in a shopping area in El Paso on Saturday killed at least 20 people.
“Let’s condemn it for what it is: evil,” Mr. Patrick said on Fox News. “And I say how long are we going to let, for example, and ignore at the federal level particularly where they can do something about the video game industry?”
He said a “manifesto” believed to have been posted online by the alleged El Paso shooter includes talk about living out a “Call of Duty”-style “super solider fantasy.”
“We know that the video game industry is bigger than the movie industry and the music industry combined,” Mr. Patrick said.
“We’ve always had guns; we’ve always had evil, but what’s changed where we see this rash of shooting? And I see a video game industry that teaches young people to kill,” he said. “This was maybe a video to this evil demon — a video game to him.”

Cloudflare to drop 8chan after El Paso shooting
Internet services provider Cloudflare announced on Sunday that it planned to cease doing business with an online forum that a gunman apparently used before killing 20 people in El Paso, Texas, the company said.
Cloudflare’s CEO, Matthew Prince, wrote in a blog post that his company was dropping 8chan after gunmen in Christchurch, New Zealand, and Poway, California, also used the site.
The anonymous forum, which the Anti-Defamation League has tied to the rise of online extremism, had shown itself to be “lawless,” Prince said. "That lawlessness has caused multiple tragic deaths. Even if 8chan may not have violated the letter of the law in refusing to moderate their hate-filled community, they have created an environment that revels in violating its spirit.”

Congresswoman from El Paso says Trump is not welcome there
A United States congresswoman representing El Paso, Texas told President Trump to cancel his plans to visit the city, which was rocked by a mass shooting at a Walmart over the weekend.
"From my perspective, he is not welcome here. He should not come here while we are in mourning," said Rep. Veronica Escobar on MSNBC Monday morning. "I would encourage the president's staff members to have him do a little self-reflection. I would encourage them to show him his own words and his actions at the rallies."
Twenty-one people were shot and killed, and dozens more were injured in the incident. The suspect reportedly wrote a manifesto in which he explained he carried out the attack to push back an an "Hispanic immigrant invasion" of Texas.

El Paso shooting witness inspired to buy his own assault rifle
A witness to the shooting massacre at an El Paso, Texas Walmart on Saturday has said that he feels inspired to buy a larger fire arm in order to protect himself and his family in the event of another shooting.
In an interview, 26-year-old Alden Hall said he regrets that he did not have a gun with him during the shooting incident, as he felt he could have protected some of the victims. Hall, an army specialist, also said that he would like either an assault rifle or a larger handgun to be an effective combatant to a would-be shooter.
"I didn't think that I would need an assault rifle or a bigger handgun, but after seeing that yesterday all things are possible," Hall said of his plans to buy a larger weapon. He also cited Texas' conservative gun laws, avowing that he intends to buy an assault rifle to act in defense.

Pseudo scientific hysteria is the wrong answer to climate change
A year ahead of the US presidential election, exaggeration about global warming is greater than ever. While some politicians continue (incorrectly) to insist it’s made up, far more insist (also incorrectly) that we face an imminent climate crisis threatening civilization.
During this week’s Democratic debates, Pete Buttigieg called 2030 a “point of no return,” Beto O’Rourke warned we don’t have “more than 10 years to get this right” and Andrew Yang claimed climate change has already moved beyond a tipping point: “We are 10 years too late,” he said.
Using climate to energize the base may make short-term political sense, but adding to polarization on the topic just makes it impossible to engage in sensible policy discussion.

Woodstock 50 artists are getting paid despite cancellation
Even though the eternally troubled Woodstock 50 festival has finally been canceled, the artists who were scheduled to perform are getting a big payday without ever having to play a note.
A rep for the festival confirmed to Variety that every artist on the bill has been paid in full — that’s some 76 artists, not including the Black Keys (who pulled out shortly after being announced) and the “and more” listed for each day. Top artists included Jay-Z, Dead & Company, the Killers, Miley Cyrus, Imagine Dragons, Chance the Rapper, Halsey, the Raconteurs, Santana, John Fogerty and others.
The artists were paid in advance, with the money being held in escrow until the festival either took place or was canceled, sources say. That money has been released, a source tells Variety, with all of it going to the artists or their representatives.

President Trump broke the rule to never hold a black politician responsible
Democrat Representative Elijah Cummings, along with the members of his party, have been feigning outrage and concern about the living conditions for illegal alien children at the border for over a year. The outright shameful part about his so-called concern is that his own district is in a far worse condition than the detention centers at the border that house non-citizens. In fact, every district run by the members of the Congressional Black Caucus has been neglected for decades.
Continuing to attempt to gain political points against a successful Trump administration, Rep. Cummings not only criticized the living condition at the detention centers, he even attacked the border patrol agents. In the meantime, political commentator and Baltimore County Republican Central Committee member Kimberly Klacik was busy posting videos of the dilapidated rodent infested buildings in Rep, Cummings’s District 7 on Twitter.
President Trump, obviously after seeing the videos, had finally had enough of Cummings’s dishonest bias reports about the living conditions at the border and fired back at him about the terrible conditions in his own district. This sent shockwaves across the liberal media and the Democrat party. How dare he hold a black politician responsible for the condition in his district? No other Republican politician had the backbone to do so out of fear of being called a racist. However, President Trump is not the average Republican that runs and tucks his tail at the fear of being called a racist or any other name that liberals come up with. He is a street brawling counter puncher. You throw the first punch; he punches back hard.

The Charlottesville Lie
Did President Trump call neo-Nazis “very fine people” during a famous press conference following the Charlottesville riots of August 2017? The major media reported that he did. But what if their reporting is wrong? Worse, what if their reporting is wrong and they know it’s wrong? A straight exploration of the facts should reveal the truth. That’s what CNN political analyst Steve Cortes does in this critically important video.

Maryland college and trade school students can win scholarships of $2,500 and $1,000 by using #shopmdtaxfree on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (August 5, 2019) - Comptroller Peter Franchot reminds Marylanders that Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week begins on Sunday, August 11, and runs through Saturday, August 17.
The Comptroller once again is joining with the Maryland Retailers Association (MRA) to promote a social media contest in which two winners will receive $2,500 and $1,000 scholarships, respectively, to any Maryland university, college or trade school.
To enter the contest during Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week, Maryland college and trade school students simply need to:
- Take a fun photo or video while shopping.

Shoppers can like or follow the official social media pages on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for more information. MRA, which is providing the scholarships, will select the two entries that best reflect the spirit of Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week.
“Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week is a great opportunity for parents to get deals on back-to-school clothes and for anyone to refresh a tired wardrobe,” Comptroller Franchot said. “And with the scholarship contest, two creative students have an opportunity to save on school costs simply by taking a fun photo or video while shopping, write a snappy caption and post it on the official social media pages."
From August 11-17, any single qualifying article of clothing or footwear priced $100 or less – regardless of how many items are purchased at the same time – will be exempt from the state's six percent sales tax. The first $40 of any backpack or bookbag purchase is also tax-free.
Comptroller Franchot will visit the following local businesses to encourage shoppers to take advantage of these savings and to participate in the contest. Details about each visit will be released several days ahead of the planned stops:

Report: DC, Maryland make strides in cancer prevention policies
More than 1.7 million Americans will be newly diagnosed with cancer in 2019, but a report from the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) shows both D.C. and Maryland are making strides to bring that number down.
The annual “How Do You Measure Up?” report, now in its 17th year, looks at eight policies state and local governments can implement to reduce cancer incidence and death, including access to care and prevention efforts.
Both Maryland and D.C. meet four of ACS CAN’s policy goals in this year’s report; Virginia meets two.
This year, Maryland passed legislation that raises the tobacco sales age to 21. Forty percent of all cancers diagnosed in the U.S. are linked to tobacco use, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and more than 27% of cancer deaths in Maryland are directly attributed to smoking, said Jocelyn Collins, Maryland government relations director at ACS CAN.

15 Mouth-Watering Ways to Use Bacon Fat
Bacon fat is a delectable and versatile ingredient you can use for baking, sautéeing, and practically anywhere you'd use butter.
Now, we're not talking about bacon grease—that blackened, smoking residue left in your skillet after you've cooked bacon in it.
No, bacon fat is the pure white fat that is rendered from bacon when you cook it slowly in the oven—which happens to be the best way to cook bacon. A byproduct of cooking bacon this way is a pan of transparent, liquid fat you can pour into a heatproof ramekin (strain it through a piece of cheesecloth to filter out any bacon particles) and refrigerate.

Baltimore's Homicide Rate Is Ten Times The National Average
Donald Trump in recent days has repeatedly attacked the city of Baltimore for its very low quality of life, denouncing it as "rodent-infested" and noting it has a very, very high homicide rate.
It's difficult to find reliable stats on Baltimore's rodent population per capita, but we can consult the FBI crime data on Baltimore's homicide rate. When it comes to Baltimore being a haven of appalling violent crime, Trump's not wrong.
The most recent homicide data from the FBI (2017) shows the city of Baltimore with a homicide rate of 55.8 per 100,000 population. That's a homicide rate comparable to El Salvador (60 per 100,000) and Venezuela (56 per 100,000). Baltimore has more homicides per capita than Honduras, Guatemala, South Africa, and Brazil.
In other words, Baltimore's homicide problem is worse than those in many of the world's most violent countries.
In contrast, the US homicide rate in 2017 was 5.3 per 100,000 making Baltimore homicide rate ten times larger than that in the US overall.

Sports participation among American youth falls to just 38 percent
A remarkable 62 percent of American children have quit playing sports, and now famous athletes such as Kobe Bryant, Wayne Gretzky, and Sloane Stephens are a part of a nationwide effort to identify the problems and increase athletic participation.
As recently as 2008, 45 percent of kids between 6 and 12 were playing team sports on a regular basis, according to research from the Sports & Fitness Industry Association (SFIA). However, that number fell to just 38 percent by 2018.
In response, the Aspen Institute's Project Play 2020 initiative has started a new awareness campaign titled 'Don't Retire, Kid,' which launched on Sunday and aims to reverse the trend in hopes of promoting physical and emotional health among American children.

Kamala Harris tries to run from her record as a merciless prosecutor. Oh wait...
Kamala Harris's weak spot has always been her harsh, sleazy, Vishinsky-like record as prosecutor. She locked them up and threw away the key. She threw them in for smalltime pot offenses and then laughed about smoking pot herself, as Rep. Tulsi Gabbard pointed out in the last debate. Heck, she left them to rot there longer than their actual sentences in order to use them as cheap prison labor. She stood by phony testimony from verifiably dishonest prosecutors to keep the wrongly convicted in jail. Such a wonder woman. She packages her record as "Smart on Crime."
Now that the fashion has changed and the latest orthodoxy on the left is to let 'em all out, she's right there touting her record as someone who helped the people she threw in jail for minor crimes.
Except that, well, she reverted to form when she forgot the cameras were on her. Here's where she was about a recent case of a black rapper who found himself in the dock for getting into some fight over in Sweden. According to a July 25 item published in the Washington Examiner:

Mulvaney: Shootings Not Trump Fault — ‘I Blame the People Who Pulled The Trigger’
Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney said President Donald Trump should not be blamed for mass shootings.
Mulvaney said, “I blame the people who pulled the triggers. Is someone really blaming the president? These people are sick. And until we address why people think this way. This young man —let’s be clear, we know nothing about the shooter in Dayton, we’re just talking about the shooter in El Paso. This was a sick person. You can go and read the things the person wrote, now available to the public, making the person famous.”
He added, “Why aren’t we trying to figure out a way to bring the nation together instead of saying it is the president’s fault.”

Friday on “Fox & Friends,” Housing and Urban Development Secretary Dr. Ben Carson weighed in on the controversy surrounding Baltimore, Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) and President Donald Trump after Trump called it “rat and rodent-infested” on Twitter.
Carson agreed with Trump’s assertion about Baltimore, saying everyone “needs to acknowledge it is a ‘problem,'” and he added that the outrage over his remarks is coming from people upset he is trying to hold people responsible.
“[T]he first thing we have to do is acknowledge that it’s a problem. Everybody needs to acknowledge that,” Carson stated. “And, you know, we have gotten to a situation in our country now where when you hold people responsible, you know, they don’t like it, they call you a racist.”
He continued, It kind of reminds you, if you have children, you are raising them, and you have one that chronically doesn’t carry out their chores, do their responsible thing, and you call them out for it, and they say, ‘You like him better than you like me.’ Basically, the same kind of thing that’s going on here. And instead of doing that, you know, people need to be willing to work together.”

Confusion: Biden offers sympathy for the ‘tragic events in Houston today and also in Michigan’
Former Vice President Joe Biden misstated the locations of mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, while speaking to donors at a high-dollar fundraiser in San Diego on Sunday night.
Biden, 76, mistakenly referred to the shootings as “the tragic events in Houston today and also in Michigan the day before," but later corrected himself, according to a pool report. Biden seemingly confused Houston for El Paso and Michigan for Ohio when speaking to donors about the shootings.
The fundraiser for his presidential campaign took place at the home of businessman Mark Arabo, who is an advocate for persecuted Iraqi Christians. Around 75 attendees at the fundraiser received a three-course meal before the vice president's remarks, and listened to Biden speak in a marble-tiled living area with two chandeliers as they sat in rows of white chairs.

Cummings speaks publicly for first time since Trump tweets
BALTIMORE —U.S. Rep. Elijah Cummings spoke publicly Saturday afternoon for the first time since the president criticized him and Baltimore in the last week.
"Come to Baltimore. Do not just criticize us, but come to Baltimore, and I promise you, you will be welcomed. I promise you, we will give you every bit of hospitality we've got because every time you come to Baltimore, every time you spend a few dollars in a hotel, that means somebody in this neighborhood is working. It gives them a job. It gives them hope," Cummings said. "It is an honor to be associated with all of these good people."

WILLIAMS: Being A Racist Is Easy Today
Years ago, it was hard to be a racist. You had to be fitted for and spend money on a white gown and don a pointy hat. You celebrated racism by getting some burlap, wrapping it around a cross, setting it ablaze and dancing around it carrying torches. Sometimes, as did Lester Maddox, you had to buy axe handles for yourself and your supporters to wield to forcibly turn away black customers from your restaurant. Or, as in the case of Theophilus "Bull" Connor, you had to learn to direct fire hoses and vicious police attack dogs against civil rights demonstrators.
Younger racists, along with their parents, had to memorize poems for whenever a black student showed up for admission to their high school or college. For example, "Two, four, six, eight, we don't want to integrate!" Of course, there were a host of racial slurs and epithets that could be hurled with impunity at any black person in your presence.
In earlier times, you didn't have to be sophisticated, but it took a bit of work to be a racist.
Today, all that has changed. To be a racist today takes little effort. For example, one can sit back in his easy chair and declare that he's for across-the-board tax cuts. That makes you a racist. If you don't believe me, think back to 1994 when the Republican-led Congress pushed for a tax-cut measure.
