Over the weekend, the countries making up the European Union held elections for representatives to the EU parliament. As the results came in, it became clear that Europe is becoming increasingly divided. Nationalist parties gained significant ground, though pro-EU groups still maintained a sizable majority. In Britain, the months-old Brexit Party was the big winner, garnering 32% of the vote, clearly sending the message that Britons are not happy with the soon-to-be-departing Prime Minister Theresa May’s failure to secure a Brexit deal. May’s Conservatives and the left-wing Labour Party were routed.
In Italy, Matteo Salvini, leader of the conservative League Party, celebrated a big election victory by declaring, “There is a wind of positive energy. It has brought in fresh air.” Salvini’s populist party campaigned heavily against the EU’s pro-migrant policies. After years of nearly uncheck mass migration from mainly Muslim-majority countries in the Middle East and North Africa, many Europeans have tired of being relegated to the status of second-class citizen by their elitist, globalist-minded leaders. They’re turning to new populist/nationalist parties to fix it.

Ever since Google Maps launched its app in 2008, I’ve been using GPS to get around town, and across the country. For a decade, a digital voice from my phone has led me, turn-by-turn, in cities I’m not familiar with and even cities I’ve lived in for years.
But during the past year or so, I’ve become uncomfortable with my reliance on GPS for a variety of reasons.
So I bought a paper map of my fair city of Tulsa, as well as a road atlas of the United States. (Apparently, I’m not alone in this; sales of the classic Rand McNally Road Atlas have, counterintuitively, been rising in the last several years). And I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how enjoyable it’s been to use old-fashioned maps to get around town, and country. Rep. Steny Hoyer Calls for DC Statehood
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., announced his support for Washington D.C. statehood.
Hoyer’s announcement came in a column posted Thursday on The Washington Post website.
“Our founders, who prescribed the creation of a national capital not within the jurisdiction of any individual state, never intended for those living in it to be denied representation,” he said.
“For 228 years, our government has denied them that voice. More than 700,000 Americans remain unable to cast votes for an equal voice in Congress.”

Smallest recorded baby, born at 23 weeks, is now going home healthy
A baby who was born at less than a pound in San Diego, and who was the smallest-recorded surviving infant in the world, has gone home five months after being born as a healthy baby, according to The Associated Press.
Saybie (the name used by the doctors caring for the baby at the hospital) was born at 23 weeks and three days, and weighed in at a mere 8.6 ounces at birth. She was able to go home this month, weighing about five pounds after spending five months in neonatal intensive care.
"After experiencing severe pregnancy complications, Saybie's mother gave birth via emergency cesarean section at 23 weeks, 3 days gestation in the womb," a hospital representative said at a news conference. "Doctors said the preterm birth was necessary after they found that the baby was not gaining weight and her mother's life was at immediate risk."

Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak Vetoes National Popular Vote Bill
Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak (D) on Thursday vetoed a bill which would have pledged the state’s six electoral votes to the winner of the popular vote for President of the United States.
Assembly Bill 186, which recently passed the Senate on a 12-8 vote, would have seen Nevada join with 14 other states in an agreement to vote for the winner of the popular vote. The Assembly had voted in favor of the measure 23-17.
“Once effective, the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact could diminish the role of smaller states like Nevada in national electoral contests and force Nevada’s electors to side with whoever wins the nationwide popular vote, rather than the candidate Nevadans choose,” a statement via Sisolak reads. “I recognize that many of my fellow Nevadans may disagree on this point and I appreciate the legislature’s thoughtful consideration of this important issue. As Nevada’s governor, I am obligated to make such decisions according to my own conscience. In cases like this, where Nevada’s interests could diverge from the interests of large states, I will always stand up for Nevada.”
Earlier this year, Colorado, Delaware, and New Mexico signed laws joining the compact, while Oregon and Maine are mulling bills of their own. Had Sisolak signed the measure, the group would have a total of 195 votes.

Customer Foils Robbery by Shooting Suspect Multiple Times
A Coatesville, Pennsylvania, convenience store customer foiled an alleged Tuesday night robbery attempt by shooting the suspect multiple times.
Daily Local News reports the incident occurred in the Turkey Hill Market, where the suspect allegedly displayed a firearm and “demanded money from employees.”
The concealed permit holder went into the store, drew his gun, and shot the suspect multiple times.
Fox 29 reports that the suspect was identified as Lawrence Galloway. He suffered “multiple gunshot wounds to the lower torso” and was transported to a hospital for treatment.

The favorite leftist tool for the attack on our nation’s founding is that slavery was sanctioned. They argue that the founders disregarded the promises of our Declaration of Independence “that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” These very ignorant people, both in and out of academia, want us to believe that slavery is unusual, as historian Kenneth Stampp suggested in his book, “Peculiar Institution: Slavery in the Ante-Bellum South.” But slavery is by no means peculiar, odd, unusual or unique to the U.S.

Large numbers of Christians were enslaved during the Ottoman wars in Europe. White slaves were common in Europe from the Dark Ages to the Middle Ages. Freight Trains To Run Through Berlin Once Again
BERLIN – Freight trains are expected to return to the tracks through Berlin next month.
The Maryland & Delaware Railroad will resume freight service along the tracks between Berlin and Snow Hill as soon as a few final repairs are made, Mayor Gee William announced at a town council meeting this week. The service hasn’t operated in seven years.
“We’re all pleased to see freight rail service returning after a quite long and unexpected break,” Williams said.

As Mueller’s own report makes clear, Trump neither colluded with the Russian government nor corruptly covered up, destroyed evidence, or made false statements to mislead investigators, as happened during Watergate when President Nixon clearly obstructed justice.
Now the question of how this outrageous process ever started becomes even more important. While the initial FBI investigation into Russian efforts to interfere in the 2016 election was entirely legitimate, the subsequent counterintelligence investigation that specifically targeted Trump after he fired James Comey as FBI director was based on false pretenses.

Top sheriff warns: Trump’s ‘done’ if illegal immigration isn’t slashed
One of America’s top sheriffs and supporter of President Trump is warning that if the administration doesn’t curb the explosion of illegal immigration across the southern border, the president will lose reelection in 2020.
“This last election was a mandate,” said Frederick County, Md., Sheriff Chuck Jenkins. “If he doesn’t accomplish something, he’s done. His whole campaign was 75% was based on that,” he told Secrets at an immigration roundtable in neighboring Virginia Wednesday night.
Jenkins, a forceful advocate for Trump and against illegal immigration, was in Culpeper, Va., to talk up that county’s bid to work with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Texas' southern border starts on three more miles of wall
U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced Tuesday night that the Rio Grande Valley sector of the southern border, where more illegal immigrants cross from Mexico than any other sector, is set to build another three miles of "wall."
CBP said in a statement that a $43,000,000 contract was awarded to Kiewit Infrastructure West Co. for the construction of the barrier, which is made up steel bars ranging between 18 and 30 feet. Construction will take place on federally owned land and is scheduled to begin in August.
Money for the project comes from funds already appropriated to CBP for fiscal year 2019 and is not tied to President Trump's national emergency declaration.

BERLIN – Unexpected cuts to a nutrition program are expected to impact thousands of seniors on the lower Eastern Shore.
Last week, MAC Inc. Area Agency on Aging announced state funding for its Senior Nutrition Services program would be cut by $113,000, or 46%, effective July 1.
Initially, the funding cuts will impact 120 to 150 seniors and create extended waiting lists for nutrition services. But the agency noted the cuts would ultimately result in a reduction of more than 15,000 meals for seniors on the lower Eastern Shore.
“Other MAC programs have received cuts in state funding,” a statement reads, “but none as significant as Nutrition Services.”
MAC, which stands for Maintaining Active Citizens, serves seniors in Dorchester, Somerset, Wicomico and Worcester counties by providing programs and services that preserve health and independence.

"We have said all along, poor Facebook, they were unwittingly exploited by the Russians," Pelosi said. "I think wittingly, because right now they are putting up something that they know is false."

President Trump said on Thursday that his administration will impose tariffs on Mexico until the country somehow stops the flow of migrants coming across the US-Mexico border.
Trump said on Twitter that the tariffs will go into effect in a matter of days and the levies could get more severe over time if the immigration crisis continues.
“On June 10th, the United States will impose a 5% Tariff on all goods coming into our Country from Mexico, until such time as illegal migrants coming through Mexico, and into our Country, STOP,” Trump wrote on Twitter.
“The Tariff will gradually increase until the Illegal Immigration problem is remedied, …at which time the Tariffs will be removed.”

Frosh today sent a letter to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Acting Administrator Daniel Elwell after the agency announced proposed changes to flight paths for incoming and outgoing planes on Runway 19 at Reagan National Airport.
“I am deeply troubled by the lack of transparency by the FAA. This proposal looks like it will cause more noise and disruption over residential areas already besieged by flights from the FAA’s last round of concentration of flight paths. This last minute announcement about flight path changes at Reagan National Airport was presented without discussion or opportunity for public input.”
“The area likely affected by this proposal contains parks, historic sites, residential areas, and other sensitive and protected areas. Border Patrol Agents Apprehend Largest Group Ever Encountered
WASHINGTON – U.S. Border Patrol agents from El Paso Sector apprehended the largest group of illegal aliens ever encountered early Wednesday morning. Agents took custody of 1,036 people after they illegally crossed the border in El Paso, Texas, shortly after 4 a.m., MDT.
The group crossed the Rio Grande and were immediately taken into custody by Border Patrol agents south of downtown El Paso, between Bridge of the Americas and Stanton Street Bridge.
“The apprehension of 1,036 individuals in a single group – the largest group ever encountered by Border Patrol agents – demonstrates the severity of the border security and humanitarian crisis at our Southwest border,” said CBP Deputy Commissioner Robert E. Perez. “The dedicated men and women of CBP, and in particular the U.S Border Patrol, are doing their very best every day to address the influx of family units and unaccompanied children.”
All members of the group were from Guatemala, Honduras, or El Salvador. The group included 934 family members, 63 unaccompanied minors, and 39 single adults. They were taken into custody for processing and initial medical screenings. They will remain in U.S. Border Patrol custody until they are processed accordingly.
El Paso Sector agents have previously encountered the largest groups so far – of over 400 - on at least two recent occasions. The most recent was on Memorial Day, when agents apprehended a group of 430 people.
The group of 1,036, comprised mostly family units and unaccompanied children, adds to the more than 530,000 aliens apprehended or encountered at ports of entry on the Southwest border so far this fiscal year. The El Paso Sector continues to set record numbers as the situation escalates.

It took several minutes for Almora, who appeared to be crying, to compose himself and continue the at-bat, and players from both teams also appeared shaken up by the scene.
Following the fourth inning, Almora, who still appeared upset, approached a security guard in the stands near where the girl was sitting and spoke to the guard before the two embraced.

Attorney General Frosh Files Charges Against Opioid Manufacturer Purdue Pharma and Related Entities
BALTIMORE, MD (May 30, 2019) - Maryland Attorney General Brian E. Frosh announced today that his office has filed charges against opioid manufacturers Purdue Pharma, L.P., Rhodes Pharmaceuticals, and related entities, alleging the companies engaged in a scheme to market prescription opioids through unfair and deceptive trade practices. Purdue manufactures MS Contin, Dilaudid, Butrans, Hysingla, and OxyContin, among others, while Rhodes manufactures generic opioids. The alleged scheme involves marketing opioid for use far in excess of any medical need, leading hundreds of thousands of Marylanders to become addicted to prescription opioids and thousands to die from opioid overdoses.
The new charges follow charges filed last week against members of the Sackler family who owned, directed, and controlled Purdue and Rhodes and their opioid sales and marketing practices. According to the charges, Purdue and the Sacklers conducted an orchestrated marketing scheme designed to mislead Maryland healthcare providers, patients, insurers, officials, and others about the benefits of opioids generally and Purdue opioids specifically, while downplaying their risks, which include opioid-induced hyperalgesia (or worsening of pain), addiction, and death. The State alleges, among other things, the unfair and deceptive marketing campaigns included misleading prescribers that patients would not become addicted by telling them that common symptoms associated with addiction - such as misrepresenting pain symptoms and using illicit drugs like cocaine and heroin - were merely signs of “pseudoaddiction” that could be addressed by increasing doses - and Purdue’s profits. According to the Statement of Charges, in making sales calls, Purdue ignored warning signs of problematic prescribing by Maryland prescribers, calling upon pain management clinics that Purdue knew or had reason to know were not engaged in practices that could not be justified as serving their patients’ legitimate medical need. Purdue even allegedly recruited problem prescribers as speakers, paying them to promote Purdue’s opioids even after becoming aware of problematic prescribing.
“The charges describe a pattern of deception designed to sell life-threatening medicines without regard to the risk posed to the patients who consumed them,” said Attorney General Frosh. “We allege that Purdue and its related entities inflicted devastating harm, and in many cases irreversible harm, on patients and their families.”
The Statement of Charges seeks an order restraining Purdue and Rhodes from further violations of the State’s Consumer Protection Act, monetary penalties for each violation, and disgorgement of all revenue the companies received from unlawful conduct.
Opioid Crisis Impact in Maryland
According to the Maryland Department of Health (MDH), opioid-related fatalities increased in 2017 for the seventh year in a row, reaching an all-time high of 2,009 deaths. This represents an increase of nearly 300% since 2010, when there were 504 reported opioid-related deaths. Because not all opioid-related deaths are detected, these figures likely understate the real numbers. For the first nine months of 2018, which is the most recent data for which the MDH has final statistics, the number of opioid-related deaths in Maryland once again climbed, with 1,648 deaths reported from January through September 2018, compared to 1,502 during the same period in 2017. Maryland ranks among the top five states for the highest rates of opioid-related overdose deaths.

The letter comes after a Washington Post article outlines a timeline of events following the first diagnosis, showing that campus leadership waited 18 days to disclose information about the virus to the student body.
“According to published reports, university officials chose not to disclose confirmed and suspected cases of adenovirus to students and families,” wrote Governor Hogan. “Just as, if not more disturbing, is the revelation the university held on to this potentially life-saving information for weeks.”

Poll: Opposition to Eliminating Electoral College Grows
Opposition to the Electoral College has been a growing movement for some time, but Trump’s victory over Hillary Clinton, despite her besting him in the national popular vote, has seemingly rejuvenated efforts by the movement to get states to agree to give their Electoral College votes to the winner of the national popular vote instead of the winner in their state. According to National Popular Vote, fifteen states (all blue states) have already passed such bills, with nine other states having had one legislative chamber pass it. The National Popular Vote Compact will only take effect when it has been enacted by enough states to accumulate 270 or more electoral votes. By their count, they need 81 more votes.
While this is troubling to people who respect the Constitution and understand the importance of the Electoral College, there is a glimmer of hope. According to a Rasmussen poll released Tuesday, “most Americans still understand the reason the Founding Fathers established the Electoral College and are increasingly opposed to efforts to get rid of it.”

Police there will now be ticketing drivers they say are posing safety risks and delaying traffic by stopping to give money.
“People are well-meaning and want to help, but this is a safety issue,” Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose said. “We have panhandlers wading into traffic at busy exit ramps off Route 280 or on McCarter Highway, which jeopardizes their own health. We had a female pedestrian killed on McCarter Highway just a few weeks ago.”
Police have issued 90 summonses in just the last few weeks. That comes with a $50 fine plus court costs.

May 2019 Population Census Of Horses On Assateague Island
The National Park Service has completed its May 2019 population census of the wild horses on Assateague Island. The total population of the Maryland herd is currently at 76 horses, including 21 stallions and 55 mares. There was one birth documented during the census (chestnut filly N2BHS-AR), and one death as a result of a natural event. The 31-year-old sorrel mare N6BM sustained a broken hind leg during a fight with another horse. A visitor observed the fight about 6 miles south on the OSV and reported the event, allowing the mare to be humanely euthanized without delay.
The National Park Service completes a full census of the horse population in Maryland six times per year, in February, March, May, July, September, and November. Managed as a wildlife population, the Assateague horses are free to roam over approximately 27 miles of the barrier island and can be difficult to find at times. During each census, horses are identified by their distinguishing characteristics, mapped and counted. Individual horses that are not observed during multiple census periods are presumed dead. The purpose of the census is to monitor the overall population dynamics of the horse herd in support of the long term fertility control program that was initiated in 1994. Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrest – Seaford

The investigation has determined on Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at approximately 2:06 p.m., the Delaware State Police Sussex County Governor’s Task Force was operating in the area of Concord and observed Wilbur L. Doughty traveling in a white Dodge Charger passenger car on Middleford Road, Seaford. A traffic violation was observed and a traffic stop was initiated just before the vehicle pulled into the Middleford Deli. The suspect, Wilbur L. Doughty, jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot across the road behind several private residences. After a brief foot pursuit, troopers were able to take Doughty into custody without further incident. Troopers recovered three bundles of suspected heroin from him.
A computer check revealed Doughty was listed as a fugitive wanted out of Sussex County Superior Court for three separate counts of Violation of Probation, Sussex County Court of Common Pleas for Violation of Probation and Sussex County Court of Common Pleas for two counts of Failure to Appear.
The driver of the vehicle was contacted and was identified, as Nicole M. Millman, and a computer check revealed that she was a fugitive with an active capias out of the Kent County Family Court for Violation of Probation. Nicole Millman was found to be in possession of two bundles of suspected heroin and drug paraphernalia.
The total number of baggies recovered from Wilbur L. Doughty was 38 baggies in (3) separate bundles. The heroin seized was approximately .266 grams. The total number of baggies recovered from Nicole M. Millman was 17 baggies in (2) separate bundles. The heroin seized was approximately .119 grams.
Wilbur L. Doughty, 29 of Georgetown, was transported to Troop 4, Georgetown and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Resisting Arrest. Doughty was arraigned before Justice of the Peace and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $2,500.00 secured bond.
Nicole M. Millman, 30 of Dover, was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and various traffic charges. Millman was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on her Violation of Probation capias.
