The remonstrations of history are rarely heeded in moments of mass hysteria, and the current frenzy to punish Russia for “stealing” the election from Hillary Clinton is no different.
While it’s nice to see the Party of Alger Hiss finally take America’s side in a conflict with Russia, the Democrats’ new bellicosity seems a bit cynical. As Ann Coultermused, it would have been nice to have “this fighting spirit about 50 years ago when the Soviet Union sought total world domination and Stalin’s spies were crawling through the U.S. government.” But, hey, I’m old enough to remember when Democrats believed the greatest threat to world peace was “climate change.” At least now they’re not tilting at windmills!
But before these new Cold Warriors and their neocon fellow travelers lead us into a crusade based on an FBI report about a computer server the bureau never got to inspect, perhaps we should consider the track record of U.S. intelligence in times of war.

Attorney General Frosh Joins Coalition in Calling for Immediate Halt to Former EPA Administrator Pruitt’s Parting Gift to Polluters
BALTIMORE, MD - Joining a coalition of 13 Attorneys General, the California Air Resources Board, and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, Attorney General Frosh today submitted a letter to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) demanding the immediate withdrawal of an order issued on now-departed EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt’s final day in office. The order effectively suspends the EPA’s 2016 Glider Rule for a year. The Glider Rule mandates that most engines installed in “gliders” – new heavy-duty truck bodies outfitted with refurbished or rebuilt pre-2010 highly polluting engines – meet the same emissions standards applicable to all newly manufactured engines. In a memorandum dated July 6, 2018, the EPA committed to take no action to enforce the Glider Rule’s annual manufacturing cap of 300 gliders per company. This cap is meant to protect our air from the excessive smog-forming and particulate-matter pollution emitted by outdated engines.
“Pruitt’s last act is an unhappy ending for people with asthma, emphysema and other cardiovascular health problems,” said Attorney General Frosh. “Our air will be dirtier and our health will suffer if Pruitt’s order allowing this pollution is permitted to stand.”

Philly Fed 'Hope' Plunges To 2 Year Lows As Prices Signal Margin Collapse
While the Philly Fed's headline sentiment indicator jumped from 19.9 to 25.7 (above the 21.5 expectations), it is what's under the covers that it most interesting.
1. Hope is fading fast... (Philly Fed 'Business Expectations plunged to their lowest since March 2016)
2. Orders up, Staff down?... (New Orders rebounded but the number of employees dropped to lowest since Sept 2017)
3. Margin Compression looms... (Prices Received - Prices Paid is collapsing as the inability to pass on higher input costs to a cash-strapped consumer is crushing margins)

A Month of Data Provides Ample Evidence for Why Law-Abiding Citizens Own Firearms
There is no denying that lawful gun owners use their firearms in self-defense far more often than those decrying the “myth” of a good guy with a gun would care to admit. Firearms are, in fact, used for self-defense often and effectively.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, notorious for its anti-gun bias, acknowledges as much in its 2013 report on gun violence research.
There, in conjunction with the National Research Council, the CDC concludedthat almost all national, comprehensive studies on the subject find that firearms are used for lawful defensive purposes between 500,000 and 3.5 million times every year in the United States.
Even assuming that the actual number of defensive uses is on the low end of that range (and there’s good reason to believe that, in fact, it falls at the higher end), firearms are used to protect life and property more often than they are used to commit crimes, according to the CDC.

Does Hillary Clinton ever get 'tard' of whining?
Ever wondered why you can't stand Hillary Clinton?
It's not just her left-wing ideas.
It's because she manages, always, without fail, in her speeches to be hackneyed, grating, and whining, too. And cripes, she's still a liar. A good demagogue will take grains of truth and then twist them. Hillary is different: a purveyor of straight up 200-proof lies, painting an alternative reality.
But quite a bit of it comes down to, in speaking for anyone who will listen (and, of course, pay big dollars), she's still tired.
Her speech before the American Federation of Teachers, noted by Kyle Olson at American Mirror, wheels out all the reasons again, starting with her perennial favorite: being tired.

Our Institutions Are Failing
Our institutional failure reminds me of the phantom legions of Rome's final days.
The mainstream media and its well-paid army of "authorities" / pundits would have us believe the decline in our collective trust in our institutions is the result of fake news, i.e. false narratives and data presented as factual.
If only we could rid ourselves of fake news, all would be well, as our institutions are working just fine.
This mainstream narrative is itself false: our institutions are failing, and the cause isn't fake news or Russian hacking--the cause is insider plundering and collusion, aided and abetted by a decline in transparency and accountability and the institutionalization of incompetence.
In other words, the citizenry's trust in institutions is declining because the failure of institutions is undeniably the fabric of everyday life in America.
When was the last time you heard the top management of a university system take responsibility for the unprecedented rise in the cost of tuition and textbooks? The short answer is "never." The insiders benefiting from the higher-education cartel's relentless exploitation of students and their families act as if the soaring costs are akin to cosmic radiation, a force of nature that they are powerless to control.

ICE ERO Newark arrests 37 individuals in Middlesex County, NJ enforcement surge
NEWARK, N.J. — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Newark Field Office arrested 37 individuals during a five-day operation that concluded Friday, as part of the agency’s ongoing public safety efforts. The operation targeted criminal aliens who were previously incarcerated at the Middlesex County Jail (MCJ), and who were subsequently released to the community by MCJ, without honoring the ICE detainer or advising ICE of their release. The operation also targeted other criminal aliens residing in Middlesex County.
Of those arrested, 16 subjects had been previously released by MCJ without honoring the ICE detainer and 78% had prior criminal convictions or pending criminal charges.
“ERO New Jersey will continue to enforce ICE’s commitment to public safety,” said Ruben Perez, acting Field Office Director of ERO in Newark. “Middlesex county, which aspires to be a ‘sanctuary county’ by protecting criminal aliens, in the process assists criminals in undermining federal law, and creates a dangerous environment in the community. It also overburdens local law enforcement. ICE will continue to execute its mission in such communities.”
The individuals arrested as part of the operation were nationals of Brazil, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, India, Ivory Coast, Mexico, Nigeria, Peru, and Turkey.

Coons: I Commend Trump for Getting NATO Allies to Increase Defense Spending
Sen. Chris Coons (D., Del.) commended President Donald Trump on Sunday for pressuring NATO allies to increase their own defense spending.
"First, let me commend President Trump for having gotten $14 billion of more investment in their national defense in our collective security by NATO members by pressing them harder than before," Coons said.
Last week, Trump embarked on a foreign tour that began with a NATO conference, a visit to the United Kingdom and is expected to end with a summit in Finland with Russian President Vladamir Putin. During his trip, Trump has made several disparaging comments about NATO allies like Germany and the U.K. He also criticized the NATO alliance by saying member states are not paying their required amount of money for their defense and asserted they were taking advantage of the United States.
"I think these countries have to step it up, not over a 10-year period, but they have to step it up immediately," Trump said. He signaled out Germany as a "rich country" that immediately increase their defense spending."

Watching Weather Waves, but Missing Climate Tides
The climate alarm media, the bureaucracy and the Green Energy industry follow an agenda which is served by inflating any short-term weather event into a climate calamity. They should take a long-term view.
Earth’s climate is never still – it is always changing, with long-term trends, medium-term reversals and minor oscillations. Humanity is best served by those who use good science to study geology, astronomy and climate history searching for clues to climate drivers and the underlying natural cycles and trends hidden in short-term weather fluctuations.
For the last 10,000 years Earth has basked in the Holocene Interglacial which is the latest of many warm cycles within the Pleistocene Ice Age. There are small warm and cool cycles within the Holocene. Today we enjoy the Modern Warm Cycle (which started about calendar 1900) following the Little Ice Age which bottomed in about 1750.
What does the future hold? The past gives clues to the future.
In every warm era, glaciers retreat, ice sheets melt and sea levels rise. Coastal land, ports and settlements are lost under the rising seas but tundra, grasslands and forests expand. Some corals manage to grow as fast as the seas rise, but others are drowned in deep water. The warmth drives more carbon dioxide from the seas, plants thrive, deserts shrink and humans are well fed.

Liberal Group Behind Resistance to Supreme Court Pick Hides Its Funding
A left-leaning advocacy group that plans to spend millions opposing Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court has obscured funding sources through an opaque organizational structure.
Conservative advocacy groups dramatically outpaced liberal efforts on judicial confirmations in recent years, dominating the fundraising and communications space around Supreme Court nominations.
But some Democratic operatives have formed a new progressive political outfit that hopes to close the right’s competitive advantage. Former Hillary Clinton spokesman Brian Fallon leads the operation, called Demand Justice, with support from alumni of the Clinton presidential campaign and the Obama administration.
The group says it plans to spend millions opposing Kavanaugh’s nomination.
Demand Justice already emulates its conservative counterparts in at least one significant respect: The group’s organizational structure fully obscures the sources of its financial support, a review by The Daily Caller News Foundation has found.

OBAMA TO SJWS: DON’T DISMISS OPPONENTS JUST BECAUSE THEY’RE WHITE OR MALE
Former president realizes the left is spiraling into a state of hysteria
Speaking in South Africa at a celebration for the 100th anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s birth on Tuesday, Obama encouraged everyone to try harder to debate with people who look different and with people who have different political ideologies.
“Most of us prefer to surround ourselves with opinions that validate what we already believe…But Democracy demands that we’re also able to get inside the reality of people who are different than us so we can understand their point of view.”
Obama added, “Maybe we can change their minds but maybe they’ll change ours. And you can’t do this if you just out of hand disregard what your opponents have to say from the start.”
“And you can’t you can’t do it if you insist that those who aren’t like you, ‘because they’re white’ or ‘because they’re male,’ that ‘somehow they can’t understand what I’m feeling,’ that ‘somehow they lack standing to speak on certain matters,'” the former president explained.

Rep. Steve Cohen Melts Down, Defends Tweet Calling for Military Coup
Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) this week repeatedly defended his tweet that implied that America needed to have a military coup to remove President Donald Trump after his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Trump held a summit with Putin on Monday, in which the 45th president declined to directly chastise Putin for allegedly trying to influence the 2016 presidential election, even when asked by an Associated Press (AP) reporter to do so. President Trump blamed the Russia investigation for some of the friction between the two countries.
In response to the summit, Rep. Cohen tweeted on Monday, “Where are our military folks? The Commander in Chief is in the hands of our enemy!”

Trump: 'Democrats have a death wish'
President Trump said Thursday that the Democratic push to abolish U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement will cost them in the 2018 midterm elections.
“The Democrats have a death wish, in more ways than one - they actually want to abolish ICE,” Trump tweeted Thursday. “This should cost them heavily in the Midterms. Yesterday, the Republicans overwhelmingly passed a bill supporting ICE!”
Several Democratic lawmakers began the campaign to abolish ICE after Trump’s zero tolerance policy on illegal immigration led to an uptick in the number of children who were separated from their families after crossing the southern border.
The first to call on this extreme measure last month was actress and Democratic gubernatorial candidate for New York Cynthia Nixon.
But the party is split on the idea, and Democratic leaders have resisted the call to abolish the agency.
On Wednesday, the House voted overwhelmingly to pass a resolution to back ICE with a vote of 244 to 35, in which133 Democrats voted "present."

REHOBOTH POLICE ARREST DRIVER RESPONSIBLE FOR EIGHT VEHICLE COLLISION
Martin Tuohy, 45, of Middletown, Del. turned himself into Rehoboth Beach police Thursday evening (07/19/18) and was charged for his actions in the eight vehicle collision that occurred in the second block of Rehoboth Avenue on July 7th, 2018.
Following a nearly two week investigation, Rehoboth Beach police have made a determination as to what occurred on the evening of July 7th. As a result of the investigation, police believe Tuohy was operating the blue 2016 Dodge Ram pick-up truck as it left a parking space along the northern shoulder of the second block of Rehoboth Avenue west bound at around 6:15pm. As he was backing the vehicle out of the space, Tuohy collided with a blue 2017 Subaru Forrester operated by a female from Ashburn, Va. that had stopped to allow Tuohy to back out of the space.
After colliding with the Subaru, Tuohy who showed signs of intoxication on scene, rapidly fled west bound on Rehoboth Avenue. As he did so he moved to the left lane where he collided with an unoccupied red Hyundai parked along the median causing minor damage to the vehicle. Tuohy continued west bound striking an unoccupied red Ford Explorer in the next parking space causing extensive damage to the vehicle pushing it up onto the median and partially on top of an unoccupied Toyota Corolla parked next to it. Tuohy then struck an unoccupied silver Ford Fusion that was also parked in the median knocking the bumper completely off the car. As a result of these collisions, it is believed that the left front wheel of Tuohy’s vehicle came off, but he still continued west bound on Rehoboth Avenue.
As he approached the Second Street intersection, the front of Tuohy’s truck collided with the rear of a black Toyota RAV4 occupied by a couple from Norristown, Pa. that was stopped for the red light at the intersection. The collision pushed the Toyota into the intersection, while Tuohy continued to drive west bound onto the sidewalk in front of the Post Office where he collided with a bike rack. The occupants of the Toyota were uninjured.
Tuohy continued west bound exiting the sidewalk into the intersection where he struck a silver Honda Pilot occupied by four individuals from Montoursville, Pa. and Millsboro, Del. The Honda was stopped in the intersection waiting for two females to clear the crosswalk before turning. The front of Tuohy’s pick-up truck struck the rear driver side of the Honda spinning it 180 degrees through the intersection. All four occupants of the Honda were taken to Beebe Medical Campus for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The females in the intersection fled in time to escape injury.
Tuohy still continued west bound again leaving the roadway and driving onto the sidewalk on the west side of the intersection where he struck a light pole and came to a stop. Tuohy was also transported from the scene to Beebe Medical Campus where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
On July 19th, 2018, Tuohy was arrested and charged with 1 count of felony 4th offense driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, 2 counts of felony first degree reckless endangering, 1 count of felony first degree vehicular assault, 3 counts of misdemeanor second degree vehicular assault, and 1 count of leaving the scene of a collision resulting in injury, also a misdemeanor.
Tuohy was arraigned and released on $16000.00 unsecured bail.
The investigation of this collision is ongoing. If anyone has information about the collision they are asked to please contact Detective Tyler Whitman at (302) 524-1391 or submit a tip through Delaware Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-847-3333 or online at http://delaware.crimestoppersweb.com. Anyone with information can also submit a tip online to the Rehoboth Beach Police Department via our webpage at https://www.cityofrehoboth.com/…/de…/police/submit-crime-tip or send us a private message.
Michael Barone: Time to junk racial quotas in higher education
“It’s time for enlightened America to hit reset on affirmative action once and for all,” writes Columbia linguistics professor John McWhorter in The American Interest. By affirmative action, of course, he means the racial quotas and preferences that most selective colleges' and universities' admissions departments employ.
“The reason America can never truly come together in understanding racial preferences is not benighted racism rearing its ugly head as always,” he goes on, “It’s because the rationales simply no longer make any damned sense.” Forty years ago, they were arguably needed to reverse anti-black discrimination. Today, beneficiaries tend to come from upscale households or from among new immigrant families never subject to discrimination here.
The weakness of the case in favor of racial quotas and preferences—which are, literally, racial discrimination, otherwise banned by the Fourteenth Amendment and the 1964 Civil Rights Act—is illustrated by a Washington Post column by the thoughtful liberal Charles Lane, subtitled “Why restart the war?”

Eating an early supper can help protect against breast, prostate cancer, says study
Having an early dinner has been shown to help people lose weight and sleep well — but new research said it might be even more beneficial than previously thought, that it can lower the risk of some of the most common and deadly cancers.
In the study published Tuesday in the International Journal of Cancer, researchers from the Barcelona Institute for Global Health in Spain found that people who went to sleep about one to two hours after their evening meal had a 20 percent reduction in cancer risk for breast and prostate cancer.

Trump charm offensive a strategic bid to detach Russia from China: experts
For 18 months, the Trump administration has taken numerous firm actions against the Kremlin, and foreign policy analysts say President Trump’s charm offensive toward Vladimir Putin in Helsinki on Monday shouldn’t overshadow that.
Hundreds of Russian businesses, power brokers and influential oligarchs remain under tough U.S. economic sanctions, and the administration is considering even harsher penalties against Russian officials if Moscow moves ahead with its controversial Nord Stream 2 natural gas pipeline, which would funnel Russian natural gas through the Baltic Sea to Germany.
“Trump has done some really provocative things. He sent dozens of diplomats back. He’s attacked into Syria. He’s sent anti-tank missiles to eastern Ukraine, very much against [Russia‘s] interests,” said retired Army Lt. Col. Daniel Davis, a senior fellow at Defense Priorities, a Washington foreign policy think tank.
“We spend way too much time focusing on personality and style over substance and actual policy,” Mr. Davis said. “It’s fair game to criticize the president, like many of us did with [former President Barack] Obama. But you still have to focus on the policy.”
In addition to the host of economic sanctions and expulsion of diplomats, the Trump administration also has embraced direct military assistance to Russia’s adversaries in a way the Obama administration did not.

Teens glued to phones risk 'modest' rise in ADHD symptoms
Could teenagers suffer symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder after engaging in excessive smartphone use?
A new study out Tuesday says digital overload could be linked to a "modest" but significant rise in new ADHD behaviors, offering a warning to parents about the potential dangers of too much screen time.
The findings in the Journal of the American Medical Association were based on nearly 2,600 Los Angeles teens who answered survey questions over a two-year period -- making it one of the largest and longest studies on the topic to date.
The more social media, streaming video, text messaging, music downloads or online chats they engaged with, the more likely they were to report symptoms like difficulty organizing and completing tasks, or trouble remaining still.
About 10 percent of youths who said they commonly used digital media platforms frequently showed new ADHD symptoms over the study period, said the report.

Amid Russia Outrage, Trump Shares An Old Video Of Hillary Clinton:
President Donald Trump came under immense pressure this week to clarify his stance on Russian meddling and U.S. intelligence reports after a high-stakes summit with President Vladimir Putin on Monday in Helenski, Finland.
Trump has now clarified his stance several times on the issue after a firestorm over his comments at the joint presser with Putin were seen as weak on the issue of Russian interference. Trump stated that he does believe intelligence findings on Russian interference during the election and told reporters at the White House Wednesday that “there’s been no president ever as tough as I have been on Russia.”
To further counter the narrative that he is weak on Russia, Trump tweeted an older interview of Hillary Clinton, presumably from her time as Secretary of State. “We want a strong Russia,” Clinton says in the clip: “A strong, confident, prosperous, stable Russia is in the interest of the world.”

WATCH: CEO Gives His Car to Employee Who Walked 20 Miles to Work
A CEO of a moving company rewarded an employee with a car after the dedicated worker walked 20 miles the night before his first day of work on Sunday to ensure he would show up on time.
Walter Carr began his journey from Homewood, Alabama, to Pelham, Alabama, at midnight after his car broke down that evening, WIAT reported.
He walked at least 14 miles until the police stopped him at 4 a.m., listened to his story, and took him to breakfast before driving him the rest of the way to his job site.
Carr arrived at his job site before his colleagues to help a client move their belongings. The client, Jenny Hayden Lamey, heard about Carr’s ordeal from the police officer who drove him.

Trump Has Been Set Up, Framed And Relentlessly Persecuted By The American Intelligence Community
The frenzied furor and fomented outrage over President Donald Trump’s reluctance to express blind trust for our “intelligence community” defy reason and reality. In their choreographed cries of contempt for Mr. Trump, the “left’s” increasingly shrill proclamations of political apocalypse make “Chicken Little” look rational. At least we’ve moved on from the impending annihilation from the nuclear war with North Korea.
Power is the only thing leftists worship, and they are unraveling in front of our eyes without it. They can’t control Mr. Trump. That alone drives them insane. They have no policies that work. Cities and states they control are criminal sanctuaries and bankrupt cesspools. Check out San Francisco, Portland and Chicago.
Each of the president’s remarkable accomplishments — from unprecedented high employment, our booming economy and the tax cuts to his historic summit with Kim Jong-un — highlights their abject failures and serves to prick their narcissistic egos. The country is doing better without them every day. Even worse, they are desperate to keep their countless crimes and abuses covered up.
We know that there are many honorable, dedicated and legitimate members of our multiple intelligence and law enforcement agencies who strive to protect us the right way every day. So, why might any of us not just declare blind trust for our “intelligence community” writ large? Let me count the ways.

Nolte: Helsinki Is One of Trump’s Finest Moments
President Donald Trump proved to Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday that he is nobody’s puppet — not Putin’s, not the Deep State’s, and not the establishment media’s. Like the moral strength he showed in Charlottesville, VA, last year, Helsinki should be remembered as one of Trump’s finest moments.
Last August, some truly evil people showed up in Charlottesville. On one side, you had white supremacists, and on the other, you had the left-wing terrorist group Antifa. A riot broke out, one person was murdered, and another 30-plus others were injured.
Almost immediately, the media crafted a narrative around Charlottesville that determined what Trump was supposed to do, which was to make a statement condemning racism and racists. Which he did, more than once. But he also did something he was not supposed to do and that was to, at long last, make an issue of Antifa, who had been running around for the better part of a year acting as the organized left’s Brownshirts.

What happened every other time Putin met with US presidents
After Bush was sworn into office in January 2001, the two leaders met for the first time in June for a summit in Slovenia. This meeting was when Bush famously said that he was able to look Putin in the eye and "get a sense of his soul."
"He's a man deeply committed to his country and the best interests of his country, and I appreciate very much the frank dialogue and that's the beginning of a very constructive relationship," Bush said of Putin.
Source: BBC
Later in 2001, Bush brought Putin to Crawford, Texas where his family ranch is located. On their visit, the two met with Texas high school students.
After a three-day summit, they agreed to reduce the US's and Russia's nuclear stockpiles.

The two men had numerous meetings when gathering with other world leaders at G-8 summits, but they had another private meeting in 2007 in Kennebunkport, Maine.
While visiting the family compound, Bush and Putin went fishing and discussed military defense systems in Poland and the Czech Republic.

Democrats Woke? 'Ocasio-Cortez socialist dreams would bankrupt the country'
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the 28-year-old socialist who secured a stunning Democratic primary win over New York Rep. Joseph Crowley last month, is getting slammed by some Democrats who say her fringe views are damaging the party.
Former Sen. Joe Lieberman, now an independent, wrote an op-ed for The Wall Street Journal on Tuesday calling on Democrats to vote for Mr. Crowley, who will appear on the ballot of the Working Families Party in November.
“On Election Day, his name will be on the ballot as the endorsed candidate of the Working Families Party,” he wrote. “But for Mr. Crowley to have a chance at getting re-elected, he will have to decide if he wants to remain an active candidate. I hope he does.”
Mr. Lieberman argued that Ms. Ocasio-Cortez’s policies “are so far from the mainstream, her election in November would make it harder for Congress to stop fighting and start fixing problems.
“Ms. Ocasio-Cortez is a proud member of the Democratic Socialists of America, whose platform, like hers, is more Socialist than Democratic,” he wrote.
“Her dreams of new federal spending would bankrupt the country or require very large tax increases, including on the working class,” he continued. “Her approach foresees government ownership of many private companies, which would decimate the economy and put millions out of work.”

Temporary Closing of Pemberton Drive
Salisbury, MD… Wicomico County Executive Bob Culver announced today starting 9am Monday, July 23rd, Pemberton Drive will be closed at Anderson Mill Pond for emergency road repairs. A detour will be set up using Rockawalkin Road, Nanticoke Road, and Crooked Oak Lane. Local traffic will be permitted into the detoured area but no traffic will be permitted to cross Anderson Mill Pond.
Work is expected to be complete and the road reopened by 8am Monday, July 30th, depending on the weather. Wicomico County Public Works will be replacing a pipe under the road that was damaged during the May 2018 storms. Subsurface damage that was not apparent at time of the storm has reflected to the surface.
The dry weather, combined with the lower pond elevation, and schools being out make this the best opportunity to replace the damaged pipe. Road patches will remain in place after the work to allow for settling until this fall when the affected portion of Pemberton Drive will be repaved. Please direct any questions regarding the repair to Wicomico County Public Works Department – Roads Division at 410-548-4872.

First Win for Trump-Putin Summit: Agreement to Restrain Iran in Syria
President Donald Trump has been criticized by the media and by Beltway politicians of both parties for his meeting with Russian president Vladimir Putin in Helsinki on Monday. But the summit has already produced a very significant win: namely, agreement to avoid a war in the Middle East by restraining Iran in Syria.
As Breitbart News columnist Caroline Glick noted last month, it was crucial that Trump confront Putin over Syria, because Russia was about to allow Iranian and Hezbollah soldiers, dressed in Syrian uniforms, to move into southwestern Syria along the border with Israel and Jordan.
That was not a situation that the U.S. or Israel could accept.
As Glick explained:

Planned Parenthood Loses Lawsuit Challenging Trump's Changes to Federal Funding
A federal judge ruled in favor of the Trump administration — and against Planned Parenthood — in a lawsuit over changes to a government-funded family planning program.
Planned Parenthood sought to have the changes thrown out, arguing they are unlawful because the administration did not go through a formal rulemaking process, which requires a public notice and comment period, when it altered the program.
U.S. District Court Judge Trevor McFadden, who was nominated by President Trump last year, ruled Monday evening that courts cannot require an agency to go through a formal rulemaking process for a change in procedure.

Obama gets too, too cute when he warns of dictators and liars
President Obama is in South Africa for a speech, and somehow, in the speech he gave, he showed himself to be so clueless about the "strongman" he warned about that he never realized that he described how he ran the U.S. for eight years.
Here is what CNN reported:
Former US President Barack Obama mounted a passionate defense of democracy and warned against the rise of "strongman politics[.]" ...
Obama criticized populist movements toward authoritarianism around the world and ridiculed the "utter loss of shame among political leaders" who lie.
"The politics of fear and resentment and retrenchment began to appear. And that kind of politics is now on the move.["]

CNN Commentator Praises Cop Killer Who Fled To Cuba After Escaping From Prison In The 1980s
CNN’s commentator Marc Lamont Hill posted a photo on Instagram praising Assata Shakur, a woman convicted of killing a law enforcement officer back in 1977, in an Instagram post on Monday.
“She wrote the second book that changed (and saved) my life. She taught me about the value and power of Freedom Dreams,” Lamont Hill wrote.
“I pray for her continued safety and protection. I continue to work to demonstrate her innocence. And I implore the State to stop prosecuting an unjust and unfair campaign against one of our most treasured Freedom Fighters,” he continued.

Ocasio-Cortez Couldn’t Define ‘Occupation of Palestine’ Despite International Relations Degree
Democratic-socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the New York Congressional candidate, was unable to explain her claim of “occupation of Palestine” in a PBS interview, although she graduated in 2011 with a degree in economics and international relations.
Ocasio-Cortez attended and graduated from Boston University just seven years before ousting a sitting 10-term Democrat congressman in this year’s New York Democratic primary election. The Boston Globe cites her Facebook page and the Associated Press in reporting that she earned her degree in economics and international relations in 2011.
Last Friday PBS published Margaret Hoover’s Firing Line interview with Ocasio-Cortez in which the candidate refers to the “occupation of Palestine.” The host challenges her to define what she means when she uses that term and, after a sustained pause and stumbling, she ultimately states, “I am not the expert on geopolitics on this issue” – despite her BU degree in international relations. Ocasio-Cortez goes on to say, despite her lack of expertise, that she is a “firm believer in finding a two-state solution.”

The Cashless Society Is A Con... And Big Finance Is Behind It
Banks are closing ATMs and branches in an attempt to ‘nudge’ users towards digital services – and it’s all for their own benefit
All over the western world banks are shutting down cash machinesand branches. They are trying to push you into using their digital payments and digital banking infrastructure. Just like Google wants everyone to access and navigate the broader internet via its privately controlled search portal, so financial institutions want everyone to access and navigate the broader economy through their systems.
Another aim is to cut costs in order to boost profits. Branches require staff. Replacing them with standardised self-service apps allows the senior managers of financial institutions to directly control and monitor interactions with customers.
Banks, of course, tell us a different story about why they do this. I recently got a letter from my bank telling me that they are shutting down local branches because “customers are turning to digital”, and they are thus “responding to changing customer preferences”. I am one of the customers they are referring to, but I never asked them to shut down the branches.
There is a feedback loop going on here. In closing down their branches, or withdrawing their cash machines, they make it harder for me to use those services. I am much more likely to “choose” a digital option if the banks deliberately make it harder for me to choose a non-digital option.
In behavioural economics this is referred to as “nudging”. If a powerful institution wants to make people choose a certain thing, the best strategy is to make it difficult to choose the alternative.
We can illustrate this with the example of self-checkout tills at supermarkets. The underlying agenda is to replace checkout staff with self-service machines to cut costs. But supermarkets have to convince their customers. They thus initially present self-checkout as a convenient alternative. When some people then use that alternative, the supermarket can cite that as evidence of a change in customer behaviour, which they then use to justify a reduction in checkout employees. This in turn makes it more inconvenient to use the checkout staff, which in turn makes customers more likely to use the machines. They slowly wean you off staff, and “nudge” you towards self-service.

Comey Calls on Voters to Support Democrats in Midterm Elections
Fired FBI Director James Comey is urging Americans to support Democrat candidates in the midterm elections this fall.
Comey criticized GOP lawmakers in a tweet Tuesday evening for what the former law enforcement official views as a reluctance to oppose President Donald Trump’s policies.
“This Republican Congress has proven incapable of fulfilling the Founders’ design that ‘Ambition must … counteract ambition,’” tweeted Comey. “All who believe in this country’s values must vote for Democrats this fall. Policy differences don’t matter right now,” added the fired FBI director. “History has its eyes on us.”

Newt Gingrich: The truth about Trump, Putin, and Obama
President Trump’s summit Monday with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki created a firestorm of controversy. President Trump seemed to be publicly siding with the Russian dictator against the American intelligence agencies.
The initial appearance was so bad that I tweeted: “President Trump must clarify his statements in Helsinki on our intelligence system and Putin. It is the most serious mistake of his presidency and must be corrected – immediately.”
After flying home from Helsinki and reviewing the tape and transcript of his press conference with Putin, President Trump said he has “full faith and support for America’s great intelligence agencies” and that he accepts “our intelligence community’s conclusion that Russia’s meddling in the 2016 election took place.”
President Trump then reminded everyone of the Obama administration’s failures in dealing with Russian meddling in the election. President Trump noted that President Obama and his advisers had information that the Russians had been working to interfere in the election and they ignored it, because they thought Hillary Clinton was going to win.
President Trump said: “President Obama, along with (then-CIA Director John) Brennan and (then Director of National Intelligence James) Clapper and the whole group that you see on television now – probably getting paid a lot of money by your networks – they knew about Russia’s attempt to interfere in the election in September, and they totally buried it. And as I said, they buried it because they thought that Hillary Clinton was going to win. It turned out it didn’t happen that way.
“By contrast, my administration has taken a very firm stance – it’s a very firm stance – on a strong action. We’re going to take strong action to secure our election systems and the process.”

Michelle Obama Launches Voter Registration Push With Tom Hanks, Lin Manuel Miranda
The former First Lady stars in a "non-partisan" video urging citizens to vote in November.
Michelle Obama is taking a starring role in a new "non-partisan" campaign to encourage Americans to register to vote and make sure they cast a ballot in November.
The Hill reports that Obama is joining forces with a cast of celebrities — all of whom happen to be Democratic donors and activists — "in a public service announcement to promote a get-out-the-vote push."
The video stars Tom Hanks, Lin Manuel Miranda (of "Hamilton" fame), Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and Janele Monae alongside the former First Lady. Obama "places calls" to her celebrity friends to remind them that the presidential election isn't the only election that matters.

Dems Unhinged: ‘Stand up for This Country and Impeach This President’
Democrats calling for President Donald Trump to be impeached is not new as Reps. Maxine Waters (D-CA) and Al Green (D-TX) have regularly championed the cause. But following Trump’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday the campaign to undo a presidential election is reaching fever pitch.
Green, who introduced Articles of Impeachment in the House last year (the resolution was quickly tabled) took to that chamber’s floor on Tuesday to again call for Trump’s impeachment and then posted a video of his remarks on Twitter.
“When a President puts democracy at risk and endangers the Republic, there is but one solution prior to an election, IMPEACHMENT #ImpeachmentIsNotDead #Helsinki2018,” Green’s tweet accompanying the video said.
“Mr. Speaker, there is a solution to a president who puts himself above his country,” Green said on the House floor. The framers of the Constitution knew that we would have this moment in time.”
“And they gave us the solution,” Green said. “We have only got to have the courage, the intestinal fortitude to stand up for this country and impeach this president. The time has come.”

Is OC’s New Parking System Cutting Nights Short?
OCEAN CITY — Is the new Inlet lot pay-up-front parking system causing some visitors to scurry back to their vehicles before their night of enjoyment on the Boardwalk and downtown is done?
That’s a question the Mayor and Council had before them on Monday and the short answer is there are different ways to add more time when parking on the Inlet lot. The challenge is not everybody is aware of the alternative methods to add more time, but it has become apparent many are leaving early because of concerns about their paid parking expiring.
Before the start of the summer season, the traditional gated system at the Inlet lot came down and was replaced with a new state-of-the-art, pay-by-plate system with license plate reader (LPR) technology. Now, residents and visitors enter the lot and pay up front for the parking time they anticipate using either one of the many kiosks situated on the lot or through the associated Park Mobile app on their phone or mobile device.
Essentially, visitors can pay up front for the time they expect to use and then add more time if they are enjoying the Boardwalk or beach longer than they anticipated. However, it appears there is a learning curve with adding more time and many are scurrying back to their vehicles even when they are still having a good time and would like to stay longer. Councilman Wayne Hartman broached the subject during Monday’s meeting.

Trump’s Tightened Labor Market Secures High-Paying Jobs for American Retirees
Older Americans who had retired from the U.S. workforce are now getting a chance to work again in President Trump’s “Buy American, Hire American” tightened labor market and economy.
The latest report by the New York Times revealed how retirees are securing high-paying jobs, chronicling the story of 62-year-old retiree Ilana Benet who had left her job as a nurse at Montefiore Health System in the Bronx, New York City.
Benet, who has ten grandchildren, has gone back to her job at the hospital since retiring, earning $60 an hour. That’s money that is added on top of her pension. Benet works two 12-hour days a week, a role that she says is enough for her because she wants to spend time with her grandchildren as well.

Citizenship Is No Longer Required to Vote in San Francisco School Board Elections
Noncitizens can vote in San Francisco’s Board of Education elections after the city’s Department of Elections ruled Monday to do away with citizenship requirements.
Noncitizens seeking to vote in San Francisco’s Board of Education elections must be at least 18 years old and residents of the city, CBS SF Bay Area reported Monday. They must also be parents, caregivers, or legal guardians of children under 19 years old who reside in the city.
Those serving time for a felony conviction, as well as those persons on parole for a felony, cannot vote in the city’s Board of Education elections. Those deemed by the court to be mentally incompetent are also barred from voting in the elections.
The new requirement comes after San Francisco voters passed local Proposition N, allowing noncitizens to vote in education elections. The proposal passed 54 percent to 46 percent and will continue taking effect until 2022, wherein the Board of Supervisors will have to decide whether to preserve or abandon the law.
Up until the 1920s, a number of states, cities, and municipalities allowed noncitizens to vote in elections as long as they were residents of that city, state, or municipality.

Distinguishing Civil War from Social Anarchy
The antics of the left since the 2016 election have proven beyond any doubt that leftists are not going to give up their agenda quietly. Their street activists have shown themselves more than willing to engage in violence – creating a mob to evict a Trump rally from Chicago even before the election, beating up Trump-supporters on numerous occasions, and threatening members of the administration in public. Leftist-dominated universities have long had the habit of lionizing 1960s and '70s domestic terrorists – in some cases granting them professorships.
Also worth mentioning are various "lone wolf" assassinations and attempted assassinations almost certainly inspired by leftist rhetoric, notably a string of police killings by the Black Lives Matter movement and the shooting of Republican House whip Steve Scalise. Antifa is no more a "protest organization" than Mussolini's blackshirts were. Assaulting people in the streets doesn't normally fit under the constitutional rubric of "free speech." Antifa's goal is to influence politics by creating fear of bodily harm among its opponents. That is the very definition of terrorism.
Nevertheless, mob violence and even political assassination still fall far short of an actual civil war. In the increasing volatile and dangerous atmosphere of our time, we cannot lose our heads. We must, despite provocations, do our best to understand clearly what is happening around us.

Liberal Group Behind Kavanaugh Resistance Is Hiding Its Funding
A left-leaning advocacy group, which plans to spend millions opposing Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court, has obscured its funding sources through an opaque organizational structure.
Conservatives have dramatically outpaced liberal efforts on judicial confirmations in recent years, dominating the fundraising and communications space around Supreme Court nominations.
But a handful of Democratic operatives have formed a new progressive political outfit that hopes to close the right’s competitive advantage. Former Hillary Clinton spokesman Brian Fallon leads the operation, called Demand Justice, with support from alumni of the Clinton presidential campaign and former President Barack Obama’s administration.
Demand Justice already emulates its conservative counterparts in at least one significant respect: The group’s organizational structure fully obscures the sources of its financial support, a Daily Caller News Foundation review has found.

Don't Believe the UN's Propaganda About 'Extreme Poverty' in the US
Philip Alston, the United Nations’ special rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights, recently reported that in the United States, “[a]bout 40 million live in poverty, 18.5 million in extreme poverty, and 5.3 million live in third-world conditions of absolute poverty.”
He further argued before the U.N. Human Rights Commission that “one of the world’s wealthiest countries does very little about the fact that 40 million of its citizens live in poverty.”
He is wrong on all counts.
Such claims do have a veneer of legitimacy, however, because when compiling the U.S. government’s official poverty statistics, the Census Bureau considers only the cash income each family reports in an annual survey.
These “official” income figures exclude substantial off-the-books earnings among low-income households and omit roughly 95 percent of the $1.1 trillion U.S. taxpayers provide in means-tested cash, food, housing, and medical benefits for low-income persons each year.
