Puppy love: New Hospice puppy brings immediate comfort
A new friend has been making Kline Hospice House a warmer place to be for patients, their loved ones and staff
His name is “Steeler” and he is a 10-month-old goldendoodle puppy. He is still in training, but has started making hospice visits with his trainer and main handler.
Laurel Cucchi, the executive director of Hospice of Frederick County, and Doug Stauffer, the president of Stauffer Funeral Homes and Hospice board member, said getting Steeler was a joint venture. It all started about a year and a half ago when the funeral home brought on Steeler’s brother, ironically named “Raven.”
The idea to get Raven was initially a bit of a gamble but Stauffer said he knew it paid off when the dog went to an upset child during a funeral and never left the child’s side. Dogs are a common denominator among many people, and having Raven on hand usually made them smile, even during tough and confusing times.

Justice Department about to free 6,000 prisoners, largest one-time release
The Justice Department is set to release about 6,000 inmates early from prison — the largest ever one-time release of federal prisoners — in an effort to reduce overcrowding and provide relief to drug offenders who received harsh sentences over the past three decades.
The inmates from federal prisons nationwide will be set free by the department’s Bureau of Prisons between Oct. 30 and Nov. 2. Most of them will go to halfway houses and home confinement before being put on supervised release.
The early release follows action by the U.S. Sentencing Commission — an independent agency that sets sentencing policies for federal crimes — which reduced the potential punishment for future drug offenders last year and then made that change retroactive.

Prince William rescues seriously injured girl from car crash
He really is a prince among men! Prince William was one of the first responders when a 9-year-old girl was injured in a serious car accident on Tuesday. The air ambulance pilot airlifted the girl in his helicopter to a trauma center in England.
According to BBC News, a 9-year-old girl was walking on a road in the town of Leighton Buzzard in Bedfordshire, England, when a blue Mercedes and a silver Ford crashed. As a result one of the vehicles struck the young girl and critically injured her. The 33-year-old, who recently took a job as a pilot with the East Anglian Air Ambulance, was quickly on the scene to help fly the victim to the hospital.

NASA Astronauts Can Already Farm On Mars
The prospect of conquering the dark and vast expanse of space has fascinated the human mind for a good part of the last century. Perhaps that is why ‘The Martian,’ a film adaptation of Andy Weir’s book about one man’s struggle to survive on Mars, rocketed to the No. 1 spot at the box office this weekend.
In the movie, Matt Damon’s character realizes he doesn’t have enough food to survive the next possible human visitation four years in the future and is forced to recognize he might starve to death. Luckily, he’s a botanist and soon figures out a way to grow potatoes using Martian soil and his own feces.
Space farming, though a fictionalized scenario in the movie, is actually happening already, according to Bruce Bugbee. The director of the plants, soils and climate department at Utah State University has been working alongside NASA for the last decade to grow plants in space.
“What we have focused on is just growing a few salad crops. Growing some lettuce, growing some radishes and they help to recycle the water,” Bugbee told TechCrunch.
Bugbee recently saw his project come to fruition on the International Space Station. The six astronauts on board were not only able to harvest crops this August but also were the first humans in space to consume them, according to a post on NASA.gov.

Volunteer band of brothers patrol U.S.-Mexico border
Dressed in camouflage gear and wielding heavy machine guns, these men look like they are off to war.
But while the pictures appear to show this band of brothers patrolling a conflict zone, they are actually guarding the border between the US and Mexico.
The ‘watchmen’ of The Arizona Border Recon - led by the group's chief 'Nailer' - protect the border near the Mexican town of Nogales, with three goals; stop illegal immigration, stop drug smuggling, and stop human trafficking.

Democrats Oppose Bill Promoting Indian Tribe Energy Production
House Democrats are expected to oppose legislation this week that would remove regulatory burdens for energy production on Native American land that tribes say have cost them tens of millions of dollars.
The Native American Energy Act would vest more regulatory authority over tribal energy production with the tribes themselves, rather federal regulators that have recently sought more stringent regulations on oil and gas production on federal land.
The bill passed out of the House Natural Resources Committee last month with just a single Democratic vote. Among its provisions is language that would exempt tribal land from new Interior Department regulations on hydraulic fracturing, an innovative oil and gas extraction technique commonly known as fracking.
Interior opposes the bill in part due to that language. That opposition and committee Democrats’ near-unanimous vote against it suggest that the bill will continue to face Democratic opposition when it comes to the House floor on Thursday.
Native American tribes have vocally supported the legislation, authored by Rep. Don Young (R., Alaska), which would streamline the permitting process for energy extraction projects on tribal land.

Groups claim racism within Annapolis Police Department
ANNAPOLIS, Md. —Annapolis police are answering charges of departmental racism.
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the American Civil Liberties Union made the accusation Monday during a press conference, and they're calling for a town hall meeting.
The goal of the two-hour town hall meeting is not only to air out concerns but to generate recommendations that will be provided to city and police officials.
Harold Lloyd has lived most of his life in the old Fourth Ward, also known as the crime-plagued Clay Street corridor. A quick look around reveals a lack of playgrounds or recreation centers. Lloyd said few officers are from the city, which makes relating to the community difficult.
"So when they come through, it's to lock up somebody or tell them to move," Lloyd said. "Really, there is no relationship."

16 Habits Of Highly Sensitive People
Do you feel like you reflect on things more than everyone else? Do you find yourself worrying about how other people feel? Do you prefer quieter, less chaotic environments?
If the above sound true to you, you may be highly sensitive. The personality trait -- which was first researched by Elaine N. Aron, Ph.D., in the early 1990s -- is relatively common, with as many as one in five people possessing it. Aron, who has written multiple studies and books on high sensitivity, including The Highly Sensitive Person, also developed a self-test (which you can take here) to help you determine if you are highly sensitive.
While recent interest in introversion -- driven largely by high-profile publications on the subject, including Susan Cain's book "Quiet," -- has brought more awareness to personality traits that value less stimulation and higher sensitivity, Aron notes that highly sensitive people still tend to be considered the "minority."
But "minority" doesn't mean bad -- in fact, being highly sensitive carries a multitude of positive characteristics. Read on for some of the commonalities shared by highly sensitive people.
1. They feel more deeply.
One of the hallmark characteristics of highly sensitive people is the ability to feel more deeply than their less-sensitive peers. "They like to process things on a deep level," Ted Zeff, Ph.D., author of The Highly Sensitive Person's Survival Guide and other books on highly sensitive people, tells HuffPost. "They're very intuitive, and go very deep inside to try to figure things out."
2. They're more emotionally reactive.
People who are highly sensitive will react more in a situation. For instance, they will have more empathy and feel more concern for a friend's problems, according to Aron. They may also have more concern about how another person may be reacting in the face of a negative event.

12 Christians executed by ISIS refused to renounce Christ
'One of the women looked up and seemed to be almost smiling as she said, 'Jesus!''
Twelve Christians have been brutally executed by the Islamic State, including the 12-year-old son of a Syrian ministry team leader who had planted nine churches, because they refused to renounce the name of Jesus Christ and embrace Islam. The martyrs were faithful to the very end; right before one woman was beheaded by the terror group, she appeared to be smiling slightly as she said, "Jesus!"
According to Christian Aid Mission, a humanitarian group which assists indigenous Christian workers in their native countries, the horrific murders took place on August 28 in an unnamed village outside Aleppo, Syria.
"In front of the team leader and relatives in the crowd, the Islamic extremists cut off the fingertips of the boy and severely beat him, telling his father they would stop the torture only if he, the father, returned to Islam," Christian Aid revealed, according to a report from Morning Star News. "When the team leader refused, relatives said, the ISIS militants also tortured and beat him and the two other ministry workers. The three men and the boy then met their deaths in crucifixion."
They were killed for refusing to return to Islam after embracing Christianity, as were the other eight aid workers, including two women, according to Christian Aid. The eight were taken to a separate site in the village and asked if they would return to Islam. However, after they refused to renounce Christ, the women, ages 29 and 33, were raped before the crowd summoned to watch, and then all eight were beheaded.
They prayed as they knelt before the Islamic State militants, according to the ministry leader Christian Aid assists, who spoke with relatives and villagers while visiting the site.

Low Levels of Face-to-face Social Contact Can Double Depression Risk
Replacing face-to-face contact with friends and family with emails, text messages and phone calls could double the risk of depression, a major study suggests.
Research on 11,000 adults found that those who meet friends and family at least three times a week are far less likely to suffer from depression.
Individuals who had such contact just once every few months had an 11.5 per cent chance of later suffering from depressive symptoms two years later.
By contrast, those who met up with family and friends at least three times a week had the lowest level of depressive symptoms, with rates of 6.5 per cent.
The study by the University of Michigan, published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, is the first to examine the impact of different types of social contact on depression.
Adults aged 50 and over were tracked for more than two years. While strong links were found between face-to-face contact and depression, regularity of contact with loved-ones by telephone, email or social media was shown to make no difference.

Leventhal: Lawn pesticide ban in Montgomery County likely
WASHINGTON — Montgomery County could enact a ban on pesticides if a vote Tuesday goes as Council President George Leventhal expects.
Under the proposal, using chemicals simply to achieve a greener lawn would be prohibited, but pesticides and herbicides could be used in certain cases — such as dealing with “noxious weeds, invasive species, stinging and biting insects,” Leventhal told reporters during a briefing Monday.
Leventhal said he has the five votes needed for the bill to pass. The Montgomery County Council is composed of nine members.
Leventhal said discussions with people around the county motivated him to promote the bill.

Hunter Escapes Attack By Shoving Arm Down Bear's Throat
A Montana bow hunter is recovering after he survived a grizzly bear mauling by remembering a tip from his grandmother and shoving his arm down the animal's throat.
Chase Dellwo, 26, was hunting with his brother northwest of the town of Choteau on Saturday when he came face-to-face with a 350- to 400-pound male grizzly, the Great Falls Tribune reported (http://gftrib.com/1WGK9mk ).
Dellwo was walking up a creek bed, hoping to drive a herd of elk to a ridge where his brother was waiting.
He was only 3 feet from the bear when he noticed it. He said the grizzly had been sleeping and didn't see him coming, possibly because of the snow, rain and 30 to 40 mph winds.
Dellwo said he only had time to take a few steps back before the bear knocked him off his feet and bit his head.
"He let go, but he was still on top of me roaring the loudest roar I have ever heard," Dellwo said.

Flooding Not As Bad As Ocean City Expected, Lower Than Sandy Levels
OCEAN CITY – As a wet and windy weekend came to an end, the overwhelming consensus in and around the region seems to be ‘another storm, another bullet dodged.’
Town officials worked around the clock all weekend through heavy rains, wind and tidal flooding, but despite forecasts that predicted flood waters could reach levels that haven’t been seen since Superstorm Sandy, that was fortunately not the case.
“The flooding, although an issue, turned out to be about a foot less than they projected,” said Ocean City Engineer Terry McGean. “That’s a big deal seeing as how flat we are downtown, so while we saw flooding, it wasn’t nearly as bad as it could have been, and certainly not as bad as during Sandy.”
Ocean City Public Works Director Hal Adkins likened the task to trying to dig out of a snowstorm that’s still ongoing.

Here's What Fiorina Says Her Cabinet Members Would All Have In Common
"I don't have a short list, but I am compiling a long list [AND] rather than names, let me tell you the kind of person I'm looking for," the Republican hopeful told Boston Herald Radio.
"I am looking for people who are not afraid to go in and actually challenge the status quo," Fiorina said. "I'm looking for leaders. They may be from politics, they may be from the private sector. What I'm not looking for is people who want the title, people who want to go to the Washington cocktail parties, people who want to put it on their resumes."
She continued, "I want people who are going to dig in and fight the status quo."
Fiorina did, however, weigh in on two individuals when pressed by host John Sapochetti.

Incident: Theft
Date of Incident: 30 September 2015
Location: 9000 block of Ocean Highway, Delmar, MD
Suspect: Lisa Marie Wilkins, 32, Delmar, MD
AKA Lisa Marie Swift, 32, Delmar, MD
Narrative: On 30 September 2015 a deputy arrested Lisa Marie Wilkins following an investigation into the theft of property and cash from the office of the Traveler’s Motel in Delmar. The investigation began in March 2015 when the motel management discovered rent money missing from the office. The investigation focused on an employee, Lisa Wilkins, who told management she collected the rent money from three tenants, put the money in her pocket and then somehow managed to lose or misplace it. The money was never located and management was unable to contact or locate Wilkin following the theft. The investigating deputy obtained a warrant for her arrest but her whereabouts were unknown.
In July 2015, Wilkins returned to the motel when management was not present and entered the office using a key she still had. Wilkins took cash from a drawer and a computer tablet. During the ensuing investigation into this theft, the deputy located the purloined tablet at a local pawn shop and discovered that Wilkins was the one who sold it. A second warrant for Wilkins’ arrest was then obtained.
Wilkins was apprehended on 30 September 2015 when it was reported that she was spotted on a property adjacent to the motel. Upon arrest, she was transported to the Central Booking Unit where she was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. Following her initial appearance, Wilkins was detained in the Detention Center in lieu of $23,000.00 bond.

JURY FINDS JACQUELINE NICOLE SHEPPARD GUILTY OF TRAFFICKING, POSSESSING HEROIN WITH INTENT TO DISTRIBUTE, IMPORTING HEROIN INTO MARYLAND AND OTHER DRUG RELATED CHARGES
On October 5, 2015, Jacqueline N. Sheppard, age 40, of Salisbury, Maryland was convicted by a Wicomico County jury of Possession of a Large Amount of Heroin, Importation of Heroin into the State of Maryland, two counts of Possession with the Intent to Distribute Heroin, two counts of Possession of Heroin, Drug Trafficking, Wear/Carry a Firearm During the Commission of a Drug Trafficking Crime, Wear/ Carry and Transport a Handgun in a Vehicle, Illegal Possession of a Regulated Firearm, Possession of a Rifle by a Disqualified Person, and three counts of Possession of Paraphernalia.
The charges against Sheppard arose out of a traffic stop on June 9, 2015, by the Wicomico County Narcotics Task Force and several assisting law enforcement agencies. Law enforcement officers followed a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta occupied by 2 individuals as it traveled from Delaware into the State of Maryland. Once in Wicomico County, Maryland, officers effectuated a traffic stop on the vehicle and were able to identify Sheppard as the driver. Based on statements made at the traffic stop and a positive K-9 alert on the vehicle, a search was conducted on the 2014 Volkswagen Jetta. The search resulted in the recovery of 201 grams of heroin and a Davis Industries P-380 semi-automatic handgun with a magazine containing two live rounds of live ammunition. Police located the 209 grams of heroin in a shoe box on the front passenger floor board. The handgun was located in the center console next to Sheppard’s purse.
A subsequent Search and Seizure Warrant was executed on Sheppard’s home located at 223 New York Avenue, Salisbury, Maryland. Upon execution of the warrant, members of the Task Force located a “Central Machinery” kilogram press with trace amounts of heroin, a digital scale with trace amounts of heroin, paraphernalia and a POF USA Rifle with a magazine and ten live rounds of ammunition. The kilogram press was located in a detached garage located behind the home. The rifle was located in the master bedroom under the bed.
Sheppard has prior convictions on her record which prohibited her from possessing a handgun or rifle on June 9, 2015.
The facts at trial revealed that Sheppard and another individual had traveled to New Jersey to buy the heroin. The jury was able to conclude that based on the quantity and packaging of the heroin, when combined with the handgun, scale, kilogram press and paraphernalia, that Sheppard possessed the heroin for distribution.
Sheppard awaits sentencing as a subsequent offender as Sheppard was convicted in 2001 in two separate cases of Possession of a Narcotic.
Wicomico County State’s Attorney Matthew Maciarello commended the Wicomico County Narcotics Task Force, the Maryland State Police Gang Enforcement Unit, the Maryland State Police Apprehension Team and the Drug Enforcement Administration for their work in this investigation and their assistance with this prosecution.
Maciarello also thanks the citizens of Wicomico County and Senior State’s Attorney, Patrizia J. Coletta, who prosecuted the case.
Thousands Protest Terror in Front of Israeli Prime Minister's Residence
Thousands of people are protesting in front of the Prime Minister's Residence in Jerusalem on Monday night, in response to escalating terror against Jews and Israelis and open calls for a third intifada against Israel.
Afterwards, the rally began, with Likud ministers Yariv Levin and Haim Katz and the regional council heads of Judea and Samaria joining the crowd.
"We came here to shout" Enough! Enough!," Samaria (Shomron) Regional Council head Yossi Dagan stated to the press. Dagan has kept a constant vigil in front of the Prime Minister's Residence since Friday, in protest over the murders of Rabbi Eitam and Naama Henkin.
"We did not go to [US President Barack] Obama or the EU. We are here because the prime minister is responsible," Dagan stated. "What was will be no more. You cannot continue to bow to terrorism."
"Those who think that terrorism can beat us here today see us and understand: it's impossible to win," said Levin. "I hope that the Cabinet will now make appropriate and courageous decisions."
"There is a link between terrorism and a speech by the terrorist, Mahmoud Abbas," he added. "The Palestinian Authority and its leader are the heart of the problem."

Abortion Foes to Congress: Use Budget Tactic to Defund Planned Parenthood
Several dozen anti-abortion groups wrote to Congress Monday, urging lawmakers to try to strip federal funds from Planned Parenthood by using a special legislative tactic.
The House is already moving in that direction, with the House Budget Committee planning a Friday hearing on what's known as a budget reconciliation bill, which can pass the Senate with a simple majority instead of the typical 60-vote threshold.
The bill says the women's health and abortion provider can't receive federal funds for one year and redirects the money to other health centers. It is Republicans' second try to defund Planned Parenthood, after an initial attempt to strip funding in a bill funding the government through the fall.
Thirty-five groups, including the Susan B. Anthony List, National Right to Life and the Family Research Council, are supporting the reconciliation effort, writing to Congress that "Planned Parenthood and other abortion businesses do not need or deserve taxpayer funding."

Disney’s U.S. parks to change their pricing for the first time in 60 years
The changes are supposed to make the park more magical, but only at the non-peak times of year.
The Walt Disney Company DIS 0.83% is considering switching to a pricing model based on demand at its U.S. parks.
In the new pricing model, there would be a financial or other incentive for visitors to go to the park off-season, reports the Wall Street Journal. Much like airline prices, tickets to Disney parks would cost more during weekends and around major holidays, and less during the weekdays and low tourist season.

States Attorneys Office Convicts Heroin Dealer
I wanted to share that another Heroin dealer was convicted today after a jury trial in the Wicomico County Circuit Court. We will issue a press release in the morning. Tonight, however, I wanted to thank the Wicomico County Narcotics Task Force, Gang Enforcement Unit and DEA for their incredible effort. (Today's defendant was convicted of crimes including: Possession with Intent To Distribute Heroin (some laced with Fentanyl x 2), Trafficking, and Possession-Heroin Large Amount). Convicting dealers is one facet of the County's strategy that includes intervention and prevention. There were 21 reported overdoses on the Eastern Shore in September--9 were reported in Wicomico County (2 of the 9 were fatal).
Poll Shows Varying Attitudes On Police
A new Goucher College Poll confirms that attitudes on police vary based on race, and a vast majority of people are familiar with the events surrounding the death of Freddie Gray.
The telephone poll of 636 Marylanders statewide was conducted over a five day period ending last Wednesday.
The poll has a margin of error of plus-or-minus 3.9-percent.
It found that 82-percent of those surveyed were paying some attention or a lot of attention to the events surrounding the death of Freddie Gray, including then pending trial of the six officers accused in his death. Only 17-percent were paying little attention or no attention at all.
Poll director Mileah Kromer says those figures don't necessarily indicate it will be impossible to pick an impartial jury of Baltimore City residents for each of the six officers' trials.

Right Now There Are 102.6 Million Working Age Americans That Do Not Have A Job
The federal government uses very carefully manipulated numbers to cover up the crushing economic depression that is going on in this nation. For the month of September, the federal government told us that 142,000 jobs were added to the economy. If that was actually true, that would barely be enough to keep up with population growth. Sadly, the truth is that the real numbers were actually far worse than that. The unadjusted numbers show that the U.S. economy actuallylost 248,000 jobs in September and the government added more than a millionAmericans to the “not in the labor force” category. When I first saw that number I truly believed that it was inaccurate. But you can find the raw figures right here. According to the Obama administration, there are currently 7.9 million Americans that are “officially unemployed” and another 94.7 million working age Americans that are “not in the labor force”. That gives us a grand total of 102.6 million working age Americans that do not have a job right now.
That is not an economic recovery – that is an economic depression of an almost unbelievable magnitude.
This is something that my friend Mac Slavo pointed out the other day. I encourage you to read his analysis right here. If we measured unemployment the way that we did decades ago, we would all be talking about how similar Obama’s economy is to the Great Depression of the 1930s.
But instead we let the feds get away with feeding us this completely fraudulent “5.1 percent” unemployment number and most of us believe the mainstream media when they tell us that everything is just fine.

In 12 Years, No Revenue Left to Fund Military, Roads
By 2027, all federal revenues will go to entitlement programs and interest on the debt, said Rep. Dave Brat (R., Va.) on C-SPAN.
“There won’t be a dollar left to run government, military, roads, education, all the things folks want,” he said, citing a report from the Congressional Budget Office.
“In the short run you just can’t spend more than you have and every family knows that, every firm knows that,” he said. “Firms are firing people right now instead of hiring because they can’t meet payroll. So that’s how the real world works and the only place it doesn’t work like that is up here.”
The CBO’s findings show that the outlook for the federal budget has worsened since the recession and policies implemented afterward have made spending increase and revenues shrink and caused deficits to rise.
“They totaled $5.6 trillion in those five years, and in four of the five years, they were larger relative to the size of the economy than they had been in any year since 1946,” the report says. “Because of the large deficits, federal debt held by the public soared, nearly doubling during the period.”

US defence chief warns Russia has 'losing strategy' in Syria
US Defence Secretary Ashton Carter said Monday that Russia is pursuing a "losing strategy" in Syria and that it must live up to its commitments in Ukraine.
Speaking in Madrid at the start of a five-day trip to Europe, Carter told Spanish military officials that by carrying out bombing in Syria, Russia had only worsened the 4.5-year-old conflict.
Russia last week started air strikes in Syria. Moscow claimed it was hitting Islamic State jihadists, but the Pentagon says Russian jets are targeting rebel groups in order to support the regime of President Bashar al-Assad.
"Russia has escalated the civil war, putting further at risk the very political resolution and preservation of Syria's structure of future governance it says that it wants," Carter said at the Center for Strategic Studies and Defence.

Supremes Snubbed: One Marriage Case Steams On
In what could become a precedent for court power, one state is set to defy the U.S. Supreme Court’s recognition of “same-sex marriage” more than three months after “five lawyers” defied the wishes of a majority of voters in dozens of states.
The fight over marriage in Alabama had reached the boiling point before the Supreme Court issued its Obergefell opinion in June, with a federal judge demanding acknowledgement of same-sex marriage and the Alabama Supreme Court issuing a permanent injunction against the order.
But when the Supreme Court decision was announced in June, Alabama did not, like other states, suddenly declare the issue resolved. Instead, it invited submissions of arguments over the applicability of the ruling in the state.
And the decision on whether the injunction remains in effect hasn’t been released.
It’s coming to a head now because several probate judges – the only people in Alabama authorized to issue marriage licenses – are becoming concerned about their own constitutional protections and have asked the state’s high court to issue its decision.

Maryland's 2013 sweeping gun control laws: Have they worked?
WASHINGTON (WJLA) -- Similar to the recent shooting at a community college in Oregon, the mass shooting in Newtown, Connecticut in 2012, gripped the nation and sparked a heated debate about gun control. Soon after, Maryland passed sweeping new laws, which - in part - banned certain assault rifles, limited magazine capacity and required licenses and fingerprinting for handgun sales. It also barred people who have been involuntarily committed to mental health institutions from possessing firearms.
Two years later, did it work?
The I-Team analyzed the numbers. According to FBI statistics, gun murders in 2014, the year after the new laws, dropped 22 percent. Though, that follows an overall 19 percent drop in Maryland murders. In that same time frame, Virginia's murders went up. DC stayed about the same.

White House Searches for ‘Single-issue Voters’ on Gun Rights
The Obama administration wants voters across the country to only weigh gun rights and gun-safety legislation when considering who to support, saying it’s necessary for proponents of new firearms restrictions to show the same passion Second Amendment activists are known for.
White House press secretary Josh Earnest told reporters Monday that voters who feel passionately about the issue may have to cast their ballots solely based on a candidate’s position on guns.
“It may be time for some voters to decide they’re single-issue voters. … That will ultimately have to be the decision that is made by some voters across the country, for them to demonstrate the same kind of passion that opponents to closing the [gun-show] loophole also have showed,” he said.

Woman ordered to repay $400K for food-stamp fraud
HAGÅTÑA, Guam — A woman who abused a federal welfare program owes the government $400,000, a federal judge ruled Monday.
The suspect, Hee Ja Jeong, was sentenced in U.S. District Court here to eight months of house arrest and five years of probation. Guam has been a U.S. territory since 1898.
In March 2014, Jeong signed a plea agreement in which she admitted to a single count of unauthorized use of food stamp benefits, but over more than two years she reportedly cost the U.S. Department of Agriculture hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Jeong’s Harmon, Guam-based convenience store, New Family Market, was one of four convenience stores identified in May 2014 as possible abusers of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, the successor to the federal food-stamp program.

Obama: There Will Be a Government ‘Shutdown Threat Before Christmas’
(CNSNews) - In his weekly address on Saturday, President Barack Obama warned that there will be another government shutdown threat two weeks before Christmas and said he “will not sign” a short-term spending bill.
The continuing resolution that Congress passed this week runs until Dec. 11. If President Obama does “not sign” the spending bill Congress sends him to fund the government after that date, Obama will shut down the government.
The government will not be funded until Obama signs an appropriations bill passed by Congress.

74 overdoses in 72 hours: Laced heroin may be to blame
By Friday afternoon, 14 people had been rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital in Chicago in the previous 24 hours to be treated for heroin overdoses, some with the needles still stuck in their arm, according to hospital officials.
In all, nearly 75 people have overdosed in Chicago since Tuesday afternoon from dangerous batches of narcotics, possibly heroin laced with the painkiller fentanyl, according to city health and fire officials. Police were investigating if at least one recent death was caused by a heroin overdose.
"We suspect what is happening is the same thing that happened in 2006 when people were getting heroin that was cut with fentanyl, which is a very strong narcotic," said Diane Hincks, a registered nurse and emergency room director at Mount Sinai on the West Side. "That's what we think is happening."

What the Secret Service Has to Say About Hillary Clinton
Perhaps it’s a little cliché to say this, but most politicians have no real substance. They really only have two primary skills, which is acting and public relations. They are nothing more than professional election winners, and anyone with a half a brain knows that the politician you see on stage is a different person behind the curtain. However, this fact applies more to Hillary Clinton than any other presidential candidate.
According to The First Family Detail, a book that investigates the lives of Secret Service agents, Hillary Clinton is probably the nastiest, most abusive individual in American politics today. Behind the scenes she talks down to everyone that works for her, and throws tantrums at the slightest provocation. She frequently cusses out agents for driving over bumps, screamed at an electrician for replacing a light bulb in her presence, and even fired the White House usher for communicating with Barbara Bush. Secret Service agents actually hide from her when she shows up, and those that are assigned her detail consider it a form of punishment.

Bloody Baltimore: No end seen to post-Freddie Gray spike in homicides, shootings
Baltimore's bloody summer ended with a barrage of bangs, as the rate of homicides and gun crimes continued to spike in the wake of the racially charged case of Freddie Gray, whose death in police custody left citizens angry and cops demoralized.
For September, homicides were up 39 percent and non-fatal shootings nearly doubled over the same month in 2014, continuing a disturbing trend that has gripped the Charm City since Gray's death in April and the rioting that followed. For the year, murders are up 52 percent and non-fatal shootings 80 percent over last year.
"We have highly motivated bad guys in Baltimore," Baltimore police spokesman T.J. Smith told FoxNews.com.

Left Wing Media Ignores Sitting Councilman Tim Spies
Leave it to the Lame Stream Media, (Salisbury Star) to only cover the candidates they're interested in, or perhaps those candidates interested in running an ad with them.
Mr. Spies has served the citizens of Salisbury extremely well, yet the Liberal Media very openly ignores all the years of service Mr. Spies has delivered, including his extensive military service in the Navy.
Now here's the kicker. Their Front Page Article this week, (GET THIS) is of Laura Mitchell, who is running unopposed.
Now mind you, even the Star admits that they only print 5,500 copies of their paper. Nevertheless, it just goes to prove how one sided your print media is. After interviewing Mr. Spies on this matter, this is what he said;
Joe,
The only correspondence I've received from the Salisbury Star is what's below, which seems only an offer to advertise in their paper.
I have thoroughly checked my email and phone records and they show what my memory tells me, that I have never received any request from anyone named Tony Russo, or anyone identifying themselves as a writer for the Star for any sort of interview.

'Holiday Greetings' as Southern Israel Shelled by Terrorists
Holiday greetings were fired from Gaza as terrorists launched a barrage of rockets and mortar shells at southern Israel Monday.
Jews throughout the country marked Simchat Torah, a joyous celebration in which the annual cycle of reading the holiest book in Judaism is completed and commenced once more.
But in the south of the country, Israelis were instead repeatedly forced to race into bomb shelters. Terrorist groups shelled communities in the Eshkol Regional Council district, and launched dozens of rockets at the region.
At least two buildings were damaged, and a significant number of goats were killed when a missile struck a children's animal corner in one kibbutz. A mortar shell also exploded close to a synagogue in a barrage that was fired at about 5:50 a.m.
The Izz a-Din al-Qassam military wing of Gaza's ruling Hamas terrorist organization claimed responsibility for the attacks, together with the Islamic Jihad-linked Ansar al-Quds terrorist group.

Lewes Man Charged with Vehicular Assault and DUI after Crashes
Lewes, DE – Troopers have arrested a 26-year-old Lewes man with various traffic charges after he crashed into an SUV and then fled into Lewes where he struck a police car.
The incident occurred around 6:50 p.m. Sunday October 4, 2015, as Samuel E. Pu Tzoy was operating a 2002 Toyota Celica westbound on Clay Road approaching a posted stop sign at the intersection with Westcoats Corner Road. Pu Tzoy failed to stop at the stop sign and struck the passenger's side of a 2001 Jeep Cherokee being operated by Bradford S. Morris, 62 of Lewes. The impact caused the Jeep to overturn several times before coming to a stop. Pu Tzoy initially came to a stop on the shoulder of Westcoats Corner Road before pulling away and traveling eastbound on Savannah Road (US9) where he struck the rear of a Lewes Police Department vehicle as it was attempting to assist in a traffic stop on the Celica.
Bradford Morris and his 56-year-old wife, Guadalupe, were properly restrained and transported to Beebe Healthcare where Guadalupe was admitted with serious injuries. She was later transported to Christiana Medical Center. Bradford Morris was treated at Beebe for non-life-threatening injuries.
Samuel Pu Tzoy was taken into custody without further incident and transported back to Troop 7 where he was charged by troopers with Vehicular Assault 1st, Leaving the Scene of a Collision Resulting in Injury, Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign, Driving without a Valid License, and various other traffic related charges. David Limbaugh on Trump
David Limbaugh
9/15/2015 12:01:00 AM - David Limbaugh
Much of the establishment's criticism of Donald Trump comes from its failure to comprehend the reasons for his soaring popularity. Establishment types seem untroubled by the problems facing America, so they can't understand the urgency that fathered Trump's rise. Minor adjustments to the Hindenburg's dining room menu just aren't going to get it.
Their overwrought analysis, their hand-wringing and their contemptuousness for Trump betray a disdain not only for Trump but for Americans who recognize the gravity of America's predicament -- and who, in desperation, have turned to Trump for bold action.
It's hard to overstate Americans' concern for the state of the nation. Horrified by President Obama's Sherman-esque march through America, they are tired of hearing that nothing can be done. They are through with empty promises from establishment politicians.
People are tired of Obama's pitting blacks against whites, women against men, gays against heterosexuals, rich against poor, non-taxpayers against taxpayers, citizens against cops and non-Christians against Christians. They can no longer stomach Obama's apologizing for America and excusing terrorists while rushing to attack Christians at every turn.
People are sick of being called racists for things that happened in this country before they were born or before they could vote, for opposing Obama's destructive agenda, or for simply being Republicans. They abhor the war on cops orchestrated by racial hucksters and pandering politicians. They are incredulous that any president would deliberately engineer America's decline and degrade our military. They are tired of the nation's chief executive officer's flouting laws and thwarting the people's will.
Americans are sick of Obama's trashing America's founding, assaulting capitalism, and bellowing about man-made global warming as a pretense to impose more liberty-smothering regulations. They are nauseated by politicians who are more interested in bipartisanship with scofflaws than with saving the nation.
People are mortified by the nation's fiscal instability, its unbridled national debt, its spiraling entitlements and Washington's refusal to address them. They are sick of the fraudulent spending "cuts." They have had their fill of the lies, especially about Obamacare, whose costs dwarf Obama's promised projections and are getting worse. They've reached their limit with this administration's rewarding unemployment and punishing work, its honoring socialism and demonizing capitalism.
People are sick of politically correct bullies. They are exhausted by lectures about not paying their fair share when half the income earners don't pay income taxes. They are fed up with lies about decreasing unemployment rates when tens of millions have dropped out of the workforce.
Every other week, we face a new existential threat to the nation -- threats perpetrated or enabled by Obama and the Washington establishment. But the establishment meets these perils with barely disguised indifference.Islamic terrorism is overrunning the Middle East and has reached our mainland, and Obama doesn't dare whisper its name. Obama refuses to enforce the borders; he orders his administration not to enforce immigration laws; he lawlessly grants amnesty to millions of immigrants who are here illegally; and he and his party set up sanctuary cities that harbor criminal immigrants.
Last year, we faced an invasion from Central America; now, in the name of compassion, we are inviting in Syrian refugees -- some 72 percent of whom are curiously men. Are we afraid to wonder aloud whether those who sidestep the legal immigration process will embrace the American idea? Whether they will end up on the welfare rolls?
With Congress' help, Obama bypassed the Constitution's treaty clause and entered into a reckless, non-verifiable nuke deal with Iran and will give the Iranians a $150 billion signing bonus to fund terrorism and build ballistic missiles.
So where does that leave us?
People have heard one too many times that the Republican Party, if it regains control, will turn things around. Republicans have been so timid in opposing Obama's agenda that many have quit believing they'll reverse this madness if they acquire full control.
Along comes Trump, who gives voice to these legitimate grievances instead of calling people racist, selfish or hysterical. He emphasizes the urgency of these problems, and he denounces the status quo, the establishment, Washington inertia and political correctness without an ounce of apology. People are dehydrated, and he's their Gatorade.
Whether Trump could or would deliver on his promises is one thing, but the establishment's arrogant failure to acknowledge, let alone decry the horror of, the status quo is his lifeblood. If Trump is a monster, the establishment is Dr. Frankenstein, so please spare us the lectures.
I happen to prefer other candidates, and certain things about Trump make me nervous; but I appreciate that he is shaking things up, and I refuse to belittle Trump's supporters for believing he would be more effective than many of his establishment rivals. Our forefathers' precious gift of liberty to us is not self-sustaining, and if we don't quit kicking it to the curb, it will leave us, never to return.
