FEDERAL JUDGE TAKES EXTRAORDINARY STEPS IN IRS LAWSUIT

The order from U.S. District Court Judge Emmett Sullivan was certainly clear enough. In a landmark victory for Judicial Watch, the federal judge ordered the IRS to submit sworn declarations detailing what happened to Lois Lerner’s “lost” emails and what steps were being taken to find them. What was provided was a garbled explanation from no less than five IRS officials with more holes than a block of Swiss cheese.

Per Fox News:
The IRS has submitted several sworn declarations to a federal district court in an attempt to explain the missing emails of former agency official Lois Lerner, as part of a case brought against the agency by [Judicial Watch] a conservative watchdog group.

In the declarations, agency technology officials insisted they did everything they could to fix and recover data from the hard drive of Lerner, who is a central figure in the investigation into the agency’s targeting of conservative groups. However, they said their efforts were fruitless, and some of Lerner’s emails were lost.

These sworn declarations came from five IRS officials: Aaron G. Signor, John H. Minsek, Stephen L. Manning, Timothy P. Camus, and Thomas J. Kane.

"Welcome to racist America"

It has now been fifty years since Dr. Martin Luther King gave his famous “I have a dream” speech. That was the speech where he dreamed that his children would be judged by the content of their character, not the color of their skin.

Today racism is alive and well in America.

Just look at Ferguson Missouri.

On August 9, Michael Brown, who may have been a gang member and who was certainly a thug and a robber, was shot and killed by a police officer. As we all know, the officer was white and Brown was black.

Change the race of any of the parties to this shooting and it is not news.

But officer Darren Wilson was white and Brown was black.

This is racism in America today. Darren Wilson is automatically guilty because of the color of his skin.

When prosecutors look at charging someone, they look at the witness statements and then look to the physical evidence and determine which version of events is accurate. In this case, Officer Wilson claims that Brown assaulted him, went for his gun and then ultimately charged at him.

While there are some differing stories, such as the claim made by Brown’s robbery accomplice that he was shot in the back, there are a dozen citizens whose narratives support Officer Wilson.

In all of the witness statements, there is no claim that Officer Wilson used racial epithets or for that matter has any history or racial animus.

Officer Wilson is white therefore he is automatically guilty.

As soon as the shooting happened, those who take advantage of the modern racism in America were in action. Racists such as Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton were there. Barack Obama and Eric Holder sprung into action.

The Department of Justice did its best to fan the flames. They sent the so-called “Community Relations” team to Ferguson. This is the same team that inflamed Sanford Florida after the Trayyvon Martin shooting. Now, Attorney General Eric Holder wants a third autopsy on the body of Michael Brown because the first two did not support his narrative.

In short, the Department of Justice, the left wing media and racist groups and leaders like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are demanding that Officer Darren Wilson be prosecuted, not because of his actions but because of the color of his skin.

Welcome to racism in the 21st Century.

Why Trouble With The Law Marks The End For Some Politicians, But Not Others

Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) has been going on August ice cream runs, speaking with reporters and getting ready to schmooze with conservative activists in New Hampshire this weekend.

Oh, and he also got booked on two felony counts.

Five days after a grand jury indicted him, Perry is going about business as usual -- and his stock in the Republican Party has seemingly risen. Early signs suggest that Perry's political career won't be sunk by simultaneous campaign and courtroom tracks as he weighs another presidential bid -- that, in fact, the dual process might actually give his primary season prospects a boost. Unless, of course, he was actually convicted.

What Has the Pentagon Achieved in Iraq?

We have been at war with Iraq for 24 years, starting with Operations Desert Shield and Storm in 1990. Shortly after Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait that year, the propaganda machine began agitating for a US attack on Iraq. We all remember the appearance before Congress of a young Kuwaiti woman claiming that the Iraqis were ripping Kuwaiti babies from incubators. The woman turned out to be the daughter of the Kuwaiti ambassador to the US and the story was false, but it was enough to turn US opposition in favor of an attack.

This month, yet another US president – the fourth in a row – began bombing Iraq. He is also placing US troops on the ground despite promising not to do so.

The second Iraq war in 2003 cost the US some two trillion dollars. According to estimates, more than one million deaths have occurred as a result of that war. Millions of tons of US bombs have fallen in Iraq almost steadily since 1991.

Legendary NFL Coach Unloads on ‘Liberals’ and ‘Political Correct Idiots’ Over Redskins Controversy

Legendary Bears coach and current ESPN analyst Mike Ditka didn’t hold back in a recent interview regarding his thoughts about the push to have the Washington Redskins change their name, decrying the “political correct idiots in America” and the “liberals of the world.”

Speaking to Mike Richman, Ditka went off (via USA Today):
What’s all the stink over the Redskin name? It’s so much [expletive] it’s incredible. We’re going to let the liberals of the world run this world. It was said out of reverence, out of pride to the American Indian. Even though it was called a Redskin, what are you going to call them, a Brownskin? This is so stupid it’s appalling, and I hope that owner keeps fighting for it and never changes it, because the Redskins are part of an American football history, and it should never be anything but the Washington Redskins. That’s the way it is.
But he wasn’t done there:

7 Illnesses You Can Get From Your Pet

We Americans love our pets, and according to the American Pet Products Association, 68 percent of homes have at least one. Studies show that pets provide companionship that lifts our moods, helps us relax, and even lengthens our lives. Unfortunately, they can also make us sick.

Most common illnesses, such as colds and upper respiratory illnesses, are caused by different viruses in humans and animals, so they usually aren't spread back and forth. Still, there are a number of zoonotic diseases — those that spread between humans and animals — that can make you miserable or even be fatal. They include:

Spin v. Reality In Md. Job Numbers

The headline on the news release out of Maryland's Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation yesterday sounded pretty great: "Private Sector Gains 18,700 Jobs Over-the-Year."

Read the body of the release, though, and you'll discover the actual news was not so great. In July, it says, Maryland actually lost 9,000 jobs, one of the worst performances in the nation and a distinct outlier in a month when 36 states and Washington, D.C., gained jobs. Not that the agency was dwelling on that. "Still, four out of seven months in 2014 have posted over-the-month total job gains," the release said. "Compared with July 2013, Maryland total jobs are up by 16,300. Maryland's private sector also gained 18,700 jobs over-the-year."

In a further exercise in looking on the sunny side of life, the agency went to some pains to explain that the U.S. Department of Labor's revised estimates for June confirmed a previous report that Maryland had gained 7,700 jobs and that the unemployment rate for that month was unchanged at 5.8 percent.

The Trouble With Tenure

DENVER — Mike Johnston’s mother was a public-school teacher. So were her mother and father. And his godfather taught in both public and private schools.

So when he expresses the concern that we’re not getting the best teachers into classrooms or weeding out the worst performers, it’s not as someone who sees the profession from a cold, cynical distance.

What I hear in his voice when he talks about teaching is reverence, along with something else that public education could use more of: optimism.

He rightly calls teachers “the single most transformative force in education.”

But the current system doesn’t enable as many of them as possible to rise to that role, he says. And a prime culprit is tenure, at least as it still exists in most states.

“It provides no incentive for someone to improve their practice,” he told me last week. “It provides no accountability to actual student outcomes. It’s the classic driver of, ‘I taught it, they didn’t learn it, not my problem.’ It has a decimating impact on morale among staff, because some people can work hard, some can do nothing, and it doesn’t matter.”

Renewing the American Idea

Paul Ryan
U.S. House of Representatives

PAUL RYAN
is the United States Representative for Wisconsin’s First Congressional District, where he was first elected in 1998. He is the chairman of the House Budget Committee and a senior member of the House Ways and Means Committee. A lifelong resident of Wisconsin, Ryan holds a degree in economics and political science from Miami University in Ohio.

The following is adapted from an Independence Day Address delivered on July 15, 2014, at Hillsdale College’s Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship in Washington, D.C.

You might think it’s a little late to give an Independence Day address, but New York’s delegates to the Continental Congress didn’t vote to approve the Declaration of Independence until July 15. So I’d like to think I’m fashionably late—or as they’d say in New York, “right on time.” But the topic is always timely, because the Declaration of Independence remains the defining statement of the American Idea and the greatest political statement of human liberty.

We all know the stories about how the American Revolution was a difficult and often desperate struggle. But we forget in hindsight how unlikely it was that our forefathers would succeed. Many times defeat seemed all but inevitable. Yet that small band of patriot-statesmen achieved victory against a long-established ruler of seemingly unlimited power and authority. They did so by remaining dedicated to America’s cause and to each other . . . fighting hard at every turn . . . knowing that their success or failure would determine whether they, or possibly any people, would ever fight again for the great cause of self-government.

The 35.4 Percent: 109,631,000 on Welfare

109,631,000 Americans lived in households that received benefits from one or more federally funded "means-tested programs" — also known as welfare — as of the fourth quarter of 2012, according to data released Tuesday by the Census Bureau.

The Census Bureau has not yet reported how many were on welfare in 2013 or the first two quarters of 2014.

But the 109,631,000 living in households taking federal welfare benefits as of the end of 2012, according to the Census Bureau, equaled 35.4 percent of all 309,467,000 people living in the United States at that time.

Car Repos Soar 70% As Auto Subprime Bubble Pops; "It's Contained" Promises Fed

While on the surface the US economy has been chugging along from GDP-crashing "snow in the winter" to GDP-cratering "warmer|cooler than expected weather in the spring|summer|fall", with bouts of GDP-boosting inventory accumulation inbetween, in recent months two very disturbing trends about that all important dynamo behind the economy, the US consumer, have emerged.

On one hand we wrote three weeks ago  that a "shocking" 77 million, or one third, of Americans face debt collectors: a statistic which crushes any suggestion that US household credit is substantially improving based on trends in 30, 60, or 90-day delinquency, as it means that the real pain is not at the near-end of the default/delinquency timetable, but the far end, which incidentally has just as dire an impact on one's credit score as a plain vanilla default (and explains why none other than Fair Issac has jumped in to "adjust" its credit methodology to artificially boost FICO scores of these millions of Americans).

Obama, Democrats target GOP foes with phony scandals

Who are President Obama and the Democrats most afraid of? That’s easy to see: Just find the Republicans they target with phony scandals.

Like Virginia Gov. Robert McDonnell. Or New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie. Or Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker. Or, now, Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

Let’s take them in order. Mr. McDonnell had been steadily rising on the radar, running Virginia with a steady hand and making a name in the GOP. He crushed his Democratic opponent by 17 points in the 2009 election, a year after Mr. Obama surprisingly took the state. Unemployment dropped from 7.4 percent to 5.2 percent under his watch, and his name started to float about as a contender for the 2012 vice presidential nomination.

‘Ice Bucket Challenge’ Has Raised Millions for ALS Association

Pete Frates can no longer speak. But in the last two and a half weeks, a video posted on Facebook by Mr. Frates, a 29-year-old former college baseball player, has inspired people like Bill Gates, LeBron James, Chris Christie and Taylor Swift to dump a bucket of ice on their heads and speak out for his cause.

The “Ice Bucket Challenge” has lit social media on fire, raising both money and awareness for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. About 30,000 Americans now have the disease, which attacks nerve cells and ultimately leads to total paralysis, though the mind remains sharp. Life expectancy is typically two to five years from the time of diagnosis.

The stunt goes like this: People make a video of themselves dumping a bucket of ice water on their heads, post it on Facebook, Instagram or other social media sites, and then challenge friends to do the same within 24 hours or donate $100 to ALS. (Many do both.)

Biden Stonewalled FOIA Request on Travel Costs

Biden cost taxpayers nearly $1M on trips home to Delaware, golf trips to Arizona

Vice President Joe Biden’s office stonewalled a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for his travel expenses, according to Ronald Kessler’s new tell-all book on the Secret Service, The First Family Detail.

Kessler, a former Wall Street Journal and Washington Postinvestigative reporter, filed a FOIA request in April 2013 with the Air Force for the details and costs of Biden’s personal trips.

“But in what amounts to a cover-up on behalf of the vice president, on June 6, Biden’s office blocked transmitting the results to me and told Air Force officers they were not to comment to anyone about the case,” Kessler writes.

According to Kessler, Biden’s then-deputy counsel Jessica Hertz took over the FOIA case from the Air Force and ordered it not to release the 95 pages of documents it had compiled in response to Kessler’s request.

Missouri cop was badly beaten before shooting Michael Brown, says source

Darren Wilson, the Ferguson, Mo., police officer whose fatal shooting of Michael Brown touched off more than a week of demonstrations, suffered severe facial injuries, including an orbital (eye socket) fracture, and was nearly beaten unconscious by Brown moments before firing his gun, a source close to the department's top brass told FoxNews.com.

“The Assistant (Police) Chief took him to the hospital, his face all swollen on one side,” said the insider. “He was beaten very severely.”

According to the well-placed source, Wilson was coming off another case in the neighborhood on Aug. 9 when he ordered Michael Brown and his friend Dorain Johnson to stop walking in the middle of the road because they were obstructing traffic. However, the confrontation quickly escalated into physical violence, the source said..

“They ignored him and the officer started to get out of the car to tell them to move," the source said. "They shoved him right back in, that’s when Michael Brown leans in and starts beating Officer Wilson in the head and the face.

The company plans to complete its 240,000 square-foot facility by 2016 and to create 400 new jobs by 2018, Secretary Dominick Murray of the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED) announced.

The new facility will house several company divisions—including Coastal Sunbelt Produce,East Coast Fresh, Cold Chain Logistics, Cold Chain Imports and The Coastal Companies Foundation—and will be located just three miles from the company’s current facility in Savage. The Coastal Companies’ decision to expand in Maryland was the direct result of State and county assistance. DBED approved a $1 million conditional loan with the requirement that the company retain jobs in Maryland. Howard County also provided $150,000 in property tax credits and expedited the review of applications and permits through its Fast Track Development Process.

SALISBURY HEROIN DEALER SENTENCED TO TWENTY YEARS IN PRISON

On August 20, 2014, Arnold Darnall Miles, Sr., age 48, of Wicomico County, Maryland, was convicted and sentenced on one count of possession with the intent to distribute heroin. A Wicomico County Circuit Court judge sentenced Miles to the maximum sentence of 20 years in the Maryland Division of Corrections. The first 10 years of that sentence represented a mandatory minimum, non-parole eligible sentence based upon Miles’ status as a subsequent offender. Miles had previously been convicted of possession with the intent to distribute marijuana in 2006, and two counts of possession with intent to distribute a narcotic in separate cases in 1992. Miles’ new conviction represents his sixth drug related conviction and eleventh criminal conviction since 1986.

Miles had been pending charges related to a drug investigation conducted by members of the Maryland State Police Gang Enforcement Unit and members of the Salisbury Police Department’s Safe Streets Unit. Investigators from those agencies stopped Miles on March 19, 2014, for speeding. After noting that Miles was extremely nervous, investigators asked for assistance from a K-9 officer. A K-9 unit from the Delmar Police Department responded to assist and, after a brief scuffle with Miles, investigators discovered 47 baggies of heroin concealed in Miles’ New York Yankees baseball cap. Another baggie of heroin was found in Miles’ pocket after his arrest.

Wicomico County State’s Attorney Matthew A. Maciarello commended the Maryland State Police Gang Enforcement Unit, the Salisbury Police Department’s Safe Streets Unit and Delmar Police Department for their work in the investigation and prosecution of this case. Mr. Maciarello also thanked Assistant State’s Attorney James L. Britt who prosecuted Miles.

Task Force Gear

Yesterday I published my opinion about the Sheriff's Office using military combat gear. While I highly doubt anyone will change my mind referencing the new military vehicle they recently obtained, I will say that when it comes to the "Task Force" serving warrants on high risk criminals, the gear that they wear is quite necessary.

Not long ago, (if you'll recall) a Sheriff's Deputy was shot in Cambridge attempting to serve a warrant to one of these hard criminals.

While it is rare, there have been situations in which shields and protective gear were absolutely necessary as a suspect had a high powered rifle with ammo that went right through homes in the neighborhood and was targeting Police Officers.

That being said, it is very rare but somehow law enforcement believes this vehicle is a necessity. Look, I may not agree with them and that is my right. It reminds me a LOT of the Salisbury Fire Department purchasing a Fire Boat and using every excuse in the world to sell the public on just why they so desperately needed it.

When the government is handing out Homeland Security money like free candy in a candy store, our REPUBLICAN and CONSERVATIVE leaders and elected officials need to be more fiscally responsible with our money. The Delmar Police Department have also abused the heck out of this equipment receiving tractor trailers, massive Army tents, several Humvee's and all sorts of other toys they DO NOT NEED.

Like the SFD, the WCSO wants to impress how this is not costing the local taxpayers. It's a liberal move and in my opinion an insult. Of course it's costing the local taxpayers as we too participate in paying taxes on a federal level. Those federal taxes are what paid for the equipment to start with.

Then we hear, the rest of the expenses on the vehicle will be paid for with drug money. Great, then let's place speed cameras in front of ALL the Schools and raid the local taxpayers for ALL of the toys LE wants and needs and NOT send ALL of that money to relieve the taxpayers "FOR THE CHILDREN".

I'll add one last thing. Some time ago the Daily Times did an article that exposed the overtime pay at the WCSO. Quite frankly I was very disturbed, (and you should be too) that a LOT of that overtime money was actually reimbursed by the FEDS. I did not know that FACT until recently and that is extremely important, to me, anyway.

The Daily Times was well aware of this FACT, yet they did NOT publish the TRUTH. Could it be the same when it comes to Worcester County? I'll say, WBOC did NOT share this important piece of information either and seemed to simply ride the shirt tails of the original Daily Times article.

Reporting from our local Main Stream Media seems to be more towards telling you what THEY want you to hear, not the facts and truth. It's Blogs like this one, (and others) that call them out. As we say, "YOU'VE BEEN BLOGGED"

Some Liberal Outlets Creating 'Almost a Lynch Mob Mentality' in Ferguson

Former CNN anchor and Fox News Channel’s “MediaBuzz” host Howie Kurtz criticized some outlets for creating “almost a lynch mob mentality” in Ferguson, MO in the wake of the shooting death of Michael Brown.

“Some liberal outlets [are] creating almost a lynch mob mentality around this, the Huffington Post today, screaming banner headline ‘Arrest Him.’ Now, the Huffington Post, nor you or I, knows exactly what happened” he said. And “when you cross that line into becoming an advocate and to demanding that somebody be prosecuted before the facts are in, while the investigation is going on, you’re grandstanding, you’re trying to keep the story alive and I really think it’s troubling.”

'Criminal' Politics: Democrats Using Indictment Weapon Against Opponents

The news that Texas Gov. Rick Perry was indicted Friday for conducting a lawful act has Republican strategists and others steaming about a pattern of abuse by Democrats: When they can't beat Republicans at the polls, they try to indict them in criminal court.

The Perry indictment focuses on his threat to veto funding for the Travis County (Austin) district attorney's public integrity unit after D.A. Rosemary Lehmberg was arrested for driving under the influence.

Her blood alcohol was nearly three times the legal limit, and she was seen on video being unruly and belligerent to police officers, who had to physically restrain her. Lehmberg served about half her 45-day jail sentence for her actions, but has refused to resign.

Perry called on Lehmberg to resign, threatening to veto legislative funding for the unit if she didn't. Lehmberg did not resign and Perry followed up on the threat.

Don’t Wait for the Doctors

A noted expert on the topic of vitamin D and public health is calling for universal vitamin D blood testing and widespread dietary supplementation to augment dietary and sunshine sources of this essential nutrient. Adoption of these practices should not wait for further definitive studies in an effort to “rescue as many patients with vitamin D-related illness as we can during the interim and not wait for further clinical trials to end.”

These are the words of Dr. Cedric F Garland, professor, Division of Epidemiology, University of California San Diego and were posted at Medscape.com in an article entitled “Vitamin D and mortality risk: should clinical practice change? [MedScape.com Aug 13, 2014] MedScape is a website dedicated to educating doctors.

She implied she did not have enough time. I told her to take 2 minutes out of her busy day to look up the facts.

Investment Guru Warns: "The Market Is Very Crash-Prone... Very Fragile"

Ahead of the collapse of 2008 well known investment manager Bill Fleckenstein warned that real estate and stocks were headed for a crash. He positioned himself and his clients to absorb the brunt of the imminent hit that was coming to financial markets. Unlike the millions of people who saw some 40% of their wealth vaporized by mid-2012, Fleckenstein survived and actually profited by betting against the official propaganda.

And though most Americans have likely bought into the government’s recovery narrative, Fleckenstein isn’t convinced and he’s sounding the alarm once again.

In an interview with Eric King of King World News, Fleckenstein warns that the same machinations and corruption responsible for the collapse of our economic and financial systems in 2008 remain a serious threat today.

There’s no chance that the outcome in the financial markets in America is a pleasant one because we’ve gotten here because of the printed money.

This can’t possibly end well. This has gone on for so long.

It’s still not possible to say when it’s going to change and what’s going to be the catalyst.

The important thing to understand is that this is a very fragile structure. The market is very crash-prone. There’s not going to be any liquidity on the downside because of what’s happened in the banks — the algorithms and all that other stuff.

More capital has been misallocated and more people have behaved imprudently. They were kind of lured into it because of the Fed. You’ve got more bad paper out there in terms of junk paper and things like that.

But to know, is it going to be that much worse? Well, it likely will be and almost surely will be, but how much worse and in what way is going to be a function of what we find out that we don’t (already) know. For instance, when the housing bubble started to burst I knew that the economy was going to get destroyed because the housing bubble had been driving the economy.

Troopers Seize Heroin and Cash after Kent County Drug Investigation

Hartly-The Delaware State Police Kent County Drug Unit completed a 3 month drug investigation into a heroin distribution and sales operation in Kent County.

On Tuesday, August 19, 2014 the Delaware State Police Kent County Drug Unit, Delaware State Police Kent County Governor’s Task Force, and the Delaware State Police Special Operations Response Team (SORT), were assisted by Dover Police Department, Milford Police Department, and the DEA in culminating a 3 month long drug investigation by executing search warrants at 2 residences in Kent County located in the first block of Shovelhead Drive, Hartly, Delaware and the 100 block of Blackberry Circle, Marydel, Delaware.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Suzanne Hays, 72, is soft spoken but don't be fooled by her demeanor. On August 5 Hays was traveling from Akron, Ohio to Orlando.

Hays had a flight change in Detroit and that change has become an experience she would like to forget.

"I was begging them not to throw me off the plane," said Hays.

Before Flight 19 would depart from Detroit to Orlando there was a problem. Hays said a passenger who was next to her decided to talk to the airline crew about her looking tired and drowsy.

"Then she came back and said they've moved us because I might be contagious," said Hays. "Contagious with what?" she wondered.

Race pimps and war tanks: Why Ferguson was a perfect storm

You have a nasty thug boosting Swisher Sweets from the corner store and roughing up the merchant.

Then, like flies to a barnyard, you have swarms of race pimps breathlessly buzzing to the scene to further fuel the rage and delegitimize the very banner behind which they march.

Then come the “po-po,” dressed in military gear and riding in tanks of war — all of it the final designs of a big government welfare state that came to power promising to solve all your problems.

Obama's teetering presidency

Loyal constituencies are starting to doubt

Barack Obama’s presidency isn’t just shrinking, it’s losing support among its most critical point — its base. Less than two years ago, Barack Obama became the first Democratic president since FDR to win re-election with a popular-vote majority. Since then, his support has dropped dramatically — not just overall, but among important constituent groups.

Comparing 2012 exit poll results with an Aug. 8 McClatchy-Marist nationwide poll shows how far Mr. Obama has fallen with various segments of the population. In 2012, Mr. Obama won among women 55 percent to 44 percent. Today, his approval rating among women is 41 percent, with 51 percent disapproving. Among political moderates, Mr. Obama has gone from a 56 percent approval and 41 percent disapproval in 2012 to 42 percent approval and 45 percent disapproval today.

Among Hispanics, the president has gone from a 71 percent and 21 percent winning margin in 2012 to a 34 percent approval and 46 percent disapproval split. Using the same comparison, Mr. Obama has seen the Midwest, those making less than $50,000, 30-to-49-year-olds, and both college graduates and noncollege graduates flip against him.

Pivotal independent voters, already having voted against Mr. Obama 45 percent and 50 percent in 2012, now register just a 35 percent approval and 55 percent disapproval rating.

Union docs predict end to coercive unionism

The largest teachers union in California is preparing for life without forced union membership, as a lawsuit challenging coercive dues makes its way through the legal system.

The California Teachers Association circulated apresentation titled, “Not if, but when: Living in a world without Fair Share,” to union leaders and members in July. The report, which was obtained by a watchdog blogger at the Education Intelligence Agency, predicts that the end is near for automatic union membership in public schools.

The slideshow warns of dire consequences if it loses the ability to collect dues payments from every public school teacher, which could lead to “membership loss … reduced staffing, pressure on CTA pension and benefits system [and] potential financial crisis in locals not positioned to survive loss of revenue.”

Charting The Militarization Of America's Police Force Since 2006

A few months ago we warned about the SWATification of America , mapping the surplus military gear by state [4]. Having already documented America's conversation to aturnkey totalitarian banana republic (confirmed over a year later by Edward Snowden), we note the following six charts from The NY Times that show the spread of military-style equipment - including aircraft, vehicles, body armor, grenade launchers and assault rifles - since the creation of the free Defense Department program in the 1990s .

The Summary:

N.C. Sheriff Terry Johnson On Trial For Racial Profiling

Justice Department officials say Alamance County Sheriff Terry Johnson illegally targeted Latino drivers and detained people without probable cause. Johnson's attorneys say the charges are baseless.

A local sheriff in North Carolina is on trial over racial profiling. The Federal Justice Department says Sheriff Terry Johnson violated the constitutional rights of Hispanic citizens and legal residents. He's accused of detaining and arresting people without probable cause, including at traffic stops. Johnson's attorney say these charges are baseless. North Carolina Public Radio's Jessica Jones reports.

JESSICA JONES, BYLINE: Sheriff Johnson's trial is being held in a courtroom in a federal building in the middle of Winston-Salem. TV trucks idle outside on the curb. During a lunch break, Yajaira Cuevas is sitting on a bench across the street unwrapping a boxed salad.

Study Sheds Light on Damaging Effects of Marijuana among College-Aged Adults

As support for legalized recreational marijuana use increases, some have warned that there is presently little research indicating the effects of low to moderate use of the drug. However, the results of a small but sobering study released in April by several Boston-based researchers have shed light on the damaging effects of even casual use of the drug among young adults, according to the Society for Neuroscience. The results of the study may hold import for colleges and universities, which struggle perennially with binge drinking, drug use, and the subsequent host of negative decisions.

The study, published in The Journal of Neuroscience, which compared high-resolution MRI brain scans of recreational marijuana users aged 18 to 25 with those of nonusers, found significant abnormalities in the left nucleus accumbens and the left amygdala of marijuana users, even those who smoked just once per week. These regions of the brain are responsible for pleasure and reward, processing memory, emotional reactions, and the assessment of negative consequences.

Previously, the only existing studies on the subject had applied to those who smoked excessively—for example, once per day for approximately three years. This study targets those who smoke only a few times per week.

Pepco And Exelon Promise Jobs, Fewer Outages And 'Customer Investment' In Maryland If Merger Is Approved

Pepco Holdings Inc. and Exelon Corp. officials are promising Maryland residents will have fewer and shorter power outages, while the state nets up to 7,100 new jobs and $623 million in economic impact if regulators approve their proposed $6.8 billion merger.

The estimates include "direct, indirect and induced effects" of a proposed $40 million "customer investment fund," as well as more reliable power service from Potomac Electric Power Co. and Delmarva Power & Light Co. They were produced by Susan F. Tierney, a senior adviser at Boston-based Analysis Group Inc., in a regulatory request filed Tuesday with the Maryland Public Service Commission.

The $6.8 billion union between the two companies was first announced April 30, with Chicago-based Exelon (NYSE: EXC) making an all-cash offer for Pepco. Stockholders of Washington-based Pepco Holdings are scheduled to vote on the deal Sept. 23.

Chris Christie is lone GOP presidential prospect to expand Medicaid

Chris Christie is lone GOP presidential prospect to expand Medicaid

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s decision to expand Medicaid under Obamacare puts him alone among Republican governors vying for the 2016 presidential nomination, and could come back to haunt him among primary voters.

Some of his potential rivals who are also governors have sought ways to leverage federal money, and others have spurned the Medicaid expansion altogether. Mr. Christie, however, embraced President Obama’s vision of expanding the federal-state health care program for the poor to those with incomes up to 138 percent of the poverty level.

Mr. Christie, like many other Republican governors, did reject efforts to have New Jersey set up its own health care exchange, but his embrace of Medicare does create a political problem similar to the one that dogged 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.

“The farther away from Obamacare any governor is, the better off they are,” said Charlie Gerow, a board member at the American Conservative Union, which grades members on their commitments to conservative values.

Hillary’s Campaign-Trail Absence

Clinton isn’t stumping for her party this election season. Here’s why.

Just about everyone noticed Hillary Clinton’s scathing comments on President Obama’s foreign policy in her interview with The Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg.

But almost no one has noticed where Clinton hasn’t been seen. That’s on the campaign trail or at fundraisers for Democrats running for the Senate.

Obama hasn’t been on the campaign trail much either, for the very good reason that he has low approval ratings in the seven states carried by 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney where Democrats are defending Senate seats.

Recession in 2015 — Levy

Just as the US economy strengthens, other countries threaten to drag it down. Employers in the US are creating jobs at the fastest pace since the late 1990′s and the economy finally looks ready to expand at a healthy rate.

But sluggish growth in France, Italy, Russia, Brazil and China suggests that the old truism “When the US sneezes, the rest of the world catches a cold” may need to be flipped.

Maybe the rest of the world will sneeze this time, and the US will get sick.

That’s the view of David Levy, who oversees the Levy Forecast, a newsletter analysing the economy that his family started in 1949 and one with an enviable record. Nearly a decade ago, the now 59-year-old economist warned that US housing was a bubble set to burst, and that the damage would push the country into a recession so severe the Federal Reserve would have no choice but to slash short-term borrowing rates to stimulate the economy. That’s exactly what happened. Now Mr Levy says the United States is likely to fall into a recession next year, triggered by downturns in other countries, for the first time in modern history.

“The recession for the rest of the world … will be worse than the last one,” says Mr Levy, whose grandfather called the 1929 stock crash and whose father won praise for anticipating turns in the business cycle, often against conventional wisdom.

NYT And Pulitzer Prize Winning Journalist On Obama: “The Greatest Enemy of Press Freedom in a Generation”

James Risen is not just a phenomenal reporter, he is also an extremely courageous and honorable American patriot. His case is a very disturbing one, and it has justifiably received a great deal of national attention. In a nutshell, the Obama Administration is threatening the pulitzer prize winning journalist with prison unless he reveals the source behind one of his stories. This is something no journalist worth his salt would ever do, but the fact our own government would resort to threats of incarceration in order to instill fear in the press to prevent it from doing its job is quite telling and extremely dangerous.

Mr. Risen understands this danger more than just about anyone else, which is why he has previously stated he is prepared to go to jail in order to defend the First Amendment from Obama, who he calls “the greatest enemy to press freedom in a generation.”

I’ve covered Risen’s struggle in the past…….

Baltimore To Settle Trip-And-Fall Case With Eastern Shore Woman For $65K

The Baltimore City Board of Estimates is scheduled Wednesday to approve a $65,000 settlement with an Eastern Shore woman who tripped and fell on uneven pavement near City Hall.

Nickia Tunnell was injured in May 2013 near East Baltimore Street and Custom House Avenue, according to court records. Tunnell, of Kennedyville, “twist and fell” in a hole in the asphalt while exiting a vehicle and suffered “serious and permanent injuries to her left foot, ankle and leg,” according to the lawsuit, filed last September in Baltimore City Circuit Court.

The city’s Law Department, in a memo to the Board of Estimates, said the pavement was uneven and broken in the intersection because of roadway milling in process at Custom House Avenue. Tunnell suffered “significant verifiable and objective bodily injuries,” with medical bills totaling more than $30,000, according to the memo.

Hogan Promises No Taxes On Retirement Income; Brown Accuses Hogan Of "Pandering"

Republican Larry Hogan said Tuesday that if he is elected governor he will try to end state income taxes on retirement income sometime during his first term. His opponent, Democratic Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown, said he believed Hogan should provide more details about how he would do that without making significant cuts in other important parts of the state budget.

Hogan, speaking at a forum featuring the two candidates at the Charlestown retirement community in Baltimore County, sparked a wave of applause at the forum when he mentioned the idea. An Anne Arundel County real estate broker, Hogan said he first would aim to get spending under control in the state capital.

"Once we get it under control, our plan - we can't do it immediately - will be to completely eliminate state income taxes for pensions and retirement income," Hogan said to a ballroom full of retired residents.
