The Sequoia President

Located in California's Sequoia National Forest
(Near Visalia)

Not every tree has a nickname, but 'The President' has earned it. This giant sequoia stands at 247 feet tall, and is estimated to be over 3,200 years old. Imagine, this tree was already 1200 years old when Jesus walked the earth.

The trunk of the president measures at 27 feet across,
with 2 BILLION needles from base to top.

Bunkerville, Nevada

The raiders arrived at dawn. Contract cowboys backed by BLM rangers and other heavily armed law enforcement personnel fanned out across the desolate but alluring Nevada countryside to confiscate livestock owned by a family who – under a controversial claim of sovereignty — had allowed them to graze on public lands without paying fees to the federal government.

“They have been overgrazing and damaging the land for years,” asserted BLM spokesman Mike Brown, who also pointed out that the family – the last holdouts in the region – had been fined millions of dollars for trespassing on public land. In defiance of federal judicial rulings and the “consensus” of their representatives, the family persisted in claiming that they had a right to graze cattle on land their ancestors had settled many decades ago. The dispute had been going on for decades, and the institutional patience of the federal government had been exhausted.

'Pushed Aside Like an Animal': Vet Dies While Unable to Get Care Through VA

There are alarming new reports this week about how difficult it has become for veterans to receive medical care from VA hospitals. Reports indicated at least 40 veterans died while awaiting appointments at the Phoenix VA Medical Center, prompting calls for an investigation and Senate hearings from the state's two senators, John McCain and Jeff Flake.

A former doctor alleges that senior management kept a secret waiting list in order to conceal the fact that 1,400 to 1,600 sick veterans were forced to wait months to see a doctor.

An Arizona woman spoke out this morning on Fox and Friends, questioning whether the alleged secret list may have played a role in the death of her father-in-law. Thomas Breen, 71, was taken to the ER last September and told by VA doctors to see a primary care physician immediately.

Martin Armstrong Asks "Will We Have Another 'Waco' In Nevada?"

Keep in mind that Obama’s head of the Justice Department, Eric Holder now Attorney General, called the shots on Waco back then. He got away with it before – why not again?

The Left’s ‘Income Inequality’ Canard

There is no incentive to get people off their dependency on government programs.

Income inequality has long been one of the liberals’ favorite issues. So there is nothing surprising about its being pushed hard this election year.

If nothing else, it is a much-needed distraction from the disasters of Obamacare and the various IRS, Benghazi, and other Obama-administration scandals.

Like so many other favorite liberal issues, income inequality is seldom discussed in terms of the actual consequences of liberal policies. When you turn from eloquent rhetoric to hard facts, the hardest of those facts is that income inequality has actually increased during five years of Barack Obama’s leftist policies.

U.S. MUSLIMS DEMAND AMERICANS' PRIVATE EMAILS

A Muslim organization is targeting seven Michigan residents who opposed plans for a major Islamic construction project in their neighborhood, and a legal team defending them alleges that the goal is to intimidate the project opponents and send a message to others.

The case is being discussed by officials with the American Freedom Law Center, which is representing the people, whose names were withheld to protect their privacy.

A variety of subpoenas for information, including private emails and other documents, had been delivered by officials representing the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

Pre-Crime Systems Now Actively Monitoring the Internet: “The Computer Algorithm Learns the Pattern and Produces a Prediction”

With revelations that the National Security Agency has collected some 20 trillion phone calls and emails via an expansive nationwide surveillance network, most Americans have already come to the realization that everything they do is being monitored.

But many shrug off Big Brother’s prying eyes by suggesting that, since they aren’t doing anything wrong, they have nothing to worry about.

That may have been true several years ago, but the digital surveillance systems of today are far more advanced than most people understand. No longer are these machines simply recording the data and storing them in some historical archive to be pulled at a later date should the government ever have reason to take a closer look at your personal life.

The next generation of systems are being used to actively monitor your digital interactions, surfing habits, conversations and daily sentiment in an effort to predict your future behavior. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the systems currently operating within the social media sphere.

An Illustrated Guide To The Atomic Bombs

Early Bombs

It is unknown whether they are the early Model 1222 “Fat Man” casings, which required 1,200 bolts to assemble, or the later Model 1561 casings which were substantially easier to assemble and which were used for the production versions.

Ex-DHS watchdog placed on leave after Senate probe says he altered reports

The official tasked with keeping watch over the Department of Homeland Security was instead watching out for senior officials he considered his "friends," according to a Senate probe.

A subcommittee of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs released a scathing report on Thursday that effectively confirmed many of the ethical allegations that have trailed Charles Edwards ever since he resigned his post in December as acting DHS inspector general. The report determined that he "jeopardized the independence" of his office by socializing with senior DHS officials and had reports "altered or delayed" to accommodate the department he was supposed to oversee.

In the wake of the report, DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson announced that Edwards, who after leaving the acting IG post took a different job at DHS, would be placed on administrative leave.

Girl Sentenced To Juvenile Facility For Assaulting Autistic Boy In Southern Maryland

The younger of the two girls accused of assaulting and tormenting a 16-year-old autistic boy in Southern Maryland — including luring him out to a frozen pond that he fell into repeatedly — was sentenced Thursday to a maximum of about six years in a secure juvenile detention facility.

The 15-year-old girl pleaded guilty earlier this month to second-degree assault and displaying an obscene photograph of a boy, and a St. Mary’s County judge ordered her on Thursday to a lockdown juvenile facility until age 21, or earlier if authorities deem it appropriate. (The girl is a juvenile and has not been publicly identified by authorities.)

The other girl in the case, Lauren A. Bush, 17, has been charged as an adult with first-degree assault, child-pornography solicitation and false imprisonment and, if convicted, faces up to 80 years in prison.

Md. Election Board Rejects Bid To Certify Online Ballot Marking System

Wary members of the state election board said they could not certify a new voting system for use in the June primary election until more security measures are put in place.

State election officials were hoping to certify a new online ballot marking tool that could be accessed when downloading a ballot online — a feature that is currently available to all voters.

But board members were troubled by an IT security assessment conducted for the state by a firm that has never performed Internet security tests on election systems. The Largo-based company, Unatek, Inc., also didn’t study voter fraud risks at the front end of the voting system where ballots are requested online.

The Land Grabbing Feds

In October 1980, Gerald Chaffin threw gasoline on his wood-frame home and burned it to the ground. He did it at the behest of the federal government. His crime? The BLM controlled the land on which his home had been located. He was the third owner of the home, which had stood for 37 years to house oil workers. His house, the BLM said, was trespassing. It would have to go.

Three decades later, Americans are still fighting the same battle.

On Tuesday, Texas Attorney General and gubernatorial candidate Greg Abbott penned a letter to Bureau of Land Management Director Neil Kornze opposing what he sees as a potential land grab in the northern part of the state by the federal government.

Decades After Clinton’s Failure to Control Media, Politicians Now Simply Attack Free Speech

Authoritarians target new media by destroying First Amendment

Nearly twenty years after the Clinton administration’s vain attempt to control the media, politicians are now simply trying to regulate free speech out of existence due to the ever-increasing influence of the alternative, real media.

As reported earlier today by Paul Joseph Watson, the ‘Hate Crime Reporting Act of 2014,’ introduced in both the U.S. House and the Senate, would grant the federal government broad powers to chill the First Amendment.

The bill targets “hateful activity on the Internet that occurs outside of the zone of the First Amendment protection,” according to Congressman Hakeem Jeffries, the chief sponsor of the House version.

But as we’ve constantly seen in the past, big government advocates like to label political dissent as “hate speech.”

In one notable example from last May, Fox News host Bill O’Reilly showed an image of Alex Jonesduring his show with a caption entitled “Hate Speech.”

Of course, O’Reilly never presented any evidence.

That’s because many mainstream media pundits, operating in the best interests of the elite, want you to look away from the alternative media and the unbridled truth that it brings.

They constantly criticize the real media in order to protect the galactic level of fraud seeping throughout government.

Similarly, back in 2010, Washington Post columnist Kathleen Parker referred to the alternative media as being similar to “terrorism.”

“It’s, sort of, like terrorism,” she told CBS correspondent Bob Schieffer after he suggested that constitutionalists engage in “nasty rhetoric” on the Internet. “You know, we don’t know where to aim our bombs, so we can’t go after a country because there are – you know, there’s no one place to focus on it.”

“And it’s the same thing with – with the Internet. You can’t really – you don’t know who to go after.”

Weather Issues Push Back Beach Replenishment Target Date

OCEAN CITY- Like many of the offseason projects conducted in the resort this winter, beach replenishment in Ocean City has not been immune to the unusually harsh weather and now has a target completion date of May 10, or about five weeks after what was originally planned.

The preliminary work on the vast network of dunes in Ocean City began in early February in advance of the larger beach replenishment project that began roughly around February 25. The beach replenishment project started at the north end of the resort at 146th Street and for the last two months or so has been progressing in a southerly direction toward its final conclusion around 4th Street.

This week, crews and heavy equipment were working in an area roughly between 77th and 80thStreets, which suggests they are a little better than half way there. City Engineer Terry McGean said following a weekly progress report this week persistent bad weather including a series of harsh winter storms has delayed the project, but it now chugging forward to an estimated completion date of May 10. The original target date was April 2.

‘Illegal secrecy’ shields Obamacare workers

Watchdog sues HHS to obtain records, background checks

You may already think that Obamacare is criminal – forcing consumers to pay for coverage of treatment they’ll never need, fixing prices and excluding coverage of certain live-saving measures. And then there are those fines.

But what if the people who are guiding you through the maze of Obamacare rules and regulations really are criminals?

The fact that some could be criminals already has been confirmed by Kathleen Sebelius, who recently resigned as Health and Human Services secretary some six months after the catastrophic rollout of the Obamacare government website.

It was during a November 2014 Senate Finance Committee hearing when Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, was asking questions about the government’s evaluation process of the Obamacare “navigators” hired to obtain confidential information about taxpayers and help guide them through the system.

Cornyn asked Sebelius: “So I want to ask you about the navigators … isn’t it true that there is no federal requirement for navigators to undergo a criminal background check, even though they will receive sensitive personal information from the individuals they help to sign up … for the Affordable Care Act?”

“That is true,” Sebelius said.

A Stunning 80% Of All New York, Florida And Nevada Condo Purchases Are "All Cash"

Back in August of last year, we first reported data [9]that not even believed at first, but has since been proven correct using existing home sales data, namely that a whopping 60% of all home purchases are "cash only." Furthermore, in the eight months since that post, our conclusion has also borne out as absolutely correct:

... due to the very thin marginal source of bidside interest (flipper flipping to flipper and so on), it means that most of America has not participated in this mirage "recovery", and all it will take to send the buoyant housing market crashing is for the one marginal buyer to become a seller. What they will next find, is that when dealing with a bidside orderbook that has zero depth, one indeed takes the escalator down from where the lofty heights achieved courtesy of Fed-funded stairs.

The subsequent tumble in the housing market - both new and existing - confirmed that ther was no "housing recovery" and it was, as we had claimed all along, merely institutional investors bidding up real estate to convert it to rental, and foreign buyers parking illegally obtained cash in US real estate.

However, not even that data could prepare us for what we learned today courtesy of CoreLogic [10], which narrowed down the range from the broader "housing" segment just to the most appetizing (especially for investors and flippers) condo market. What it found was stunning: not less than 80% of all condos in key markets such as Florida, Nevada And New York are all cash.

Director of National Intelligence Lied to Congress About Muslim Brotherhood Contacts

There’s apparently a long list of things that DNI Clapper lied to Congress about, but as Ryan Mauro at the Clarion Project reveals, Brotherhood contacts are also on the list.

The story of the deception began when the Director of National Intelligence James Clapper testified to Congress on February 10, 2011 saying that the Muslim Brotherhood is “a very heterogeneous group, largely secular, which has eschewed violence and has described Al-Qaeda as a perversion of Islam.”

In the same hearing, Clapper was asked by Rep. Jeff Miller (R-FL) about the administration’s relationship with the Muslim Brotherhood. He answered, “There have been outreaches to the Muslim community in general, but I guess we’re not aware of any direct outreach to these particular organizations. That is, if you’re speaking domestically.”

Was Clapper telling the truth?

Obamacare Provision Allows Treatment Without Payment

Doctors and hospitals, not patients, will be on the hook for people who don’t pay their Obamacare insurance premiums, Fox News reported.

Obamacare allows for a 90-day grace period for subsidized health exchange plans, but the insurance companies are only obligated to cover the first 30 days. Patients can get two more months of medical care without paying for it.

"The insurance company doesn't pay, you don't pay, who pays? said John Goodman of the National Center for Policy Analysis, according to Fox News. "Well, the doctors and the hospitals have to eat it. That's a very strange feature of this new health reform."

The American Medical Association addresses the conundrum on its website, recommending doctors "take steps to minimize any potential non-payments from health insurers that are due to cancellation of coverage at the end of the grace period."

The AMA has sent doctors a sample letter notifying patients of their financial obligation in the event they lose their coverage for non-payment of a premium.

The loophole could cripple doctors and hospitals, who are already cutting fees to participate in Obamacare plans, Scott Gottlieb of the American Enterprise Institute told Fox.

"They're used to absorbing a certain amount of bad debt, but for a lot of individual doctors – they're not going to be able to absorb these costs so they're going to be really stuck," he said.

The Principles of Freedom VS Agenda 21

“Freedom.” We use that word a lot. Do we all really know what that word means? It’s used in so many different ways. Do we understand how it is attained? Most importantly, do we understand how it is used by some to actually take freedom away?

Simply put, freedom is the ability to act without hindrance or restraint. Freedom is owning your life, your actions, your labor. We say we support the “principles” of freedom. But what are those principles and where did they come from?

First of all, we must understand principles are not legislated or invented. Principles are discovered. Someone doesn’t just come up with an idea and start to sell it as a principle. A principle exists and you are subject to it, whether or not you know it.

For example, for centuries men were ignorant of the laws of physics but they were subject to them nonetheless. Man couldn’t fly or fit two objects in the same space, no matter how hard he tried because the laws (or principles) of physics are fact, whether known or unknown.

The same is true with the principles of freedom. The basic principles of freedom are consistent with man’s nature and that’s why they work. When the principles of freedom are recognized and adhered to, there is prosperity, justice and happiness. When the principles have been ignored or rejected, men have suffered poverty, stagnation and political tyranny.

Propagandist for Centralized Power

A recent study from Princeton and Northwestern concluded that the United States is an “oligarchy” ruled by a small group of wealthy elites and interest groups.

According to authors Martin Gilens and Benjamin Page:

The central point that emerges from our research is that economic elites and organized groups representing business interests have substantial independent impacts on U.S. government policy, while mass-based interest groups and average citizens have little or no independent influence.

Fortunately for The Average Joe, however, his stated policy preferences happen to coincide with the desires of the wealthy elites much of the time, (according to the study) so even though his views and desires don’t matter in Congress, he nonetheless sometimes gets what he wants, simply by coincidence

Heated Talks Over Redistricting In Salisbury

SALISBURY — Tempers flared this week during a Salisbury City Council discussion of election redistricting.

Both sides have clear philosophies about whether the city should switch from a two-district to a five-district system. A public hearing on the issue will be forthcoming, though at this time switching to a five-district layout is favored by a majority of the council.

Mayor Jim Ireton presented the council with a proposed re-drawn election district map Monday that would divide Salisbury’s current two zones into five smaller pieces. The council split passionately on the issue and at several points Council President Jake Day had to remind the body to maintain decorum.

EDITORIAL: Voting with one’s feet shows folly of liberal economic policies

America’s shifting population map proves the obvious

Once-big and powerful states are shrinking. Suffocating under the weight of liberal policies, powerhouse states have atrophied into uncompetitive and unwelcoming weaklings.

It’s all laid out in a report by the American Legislative Exchange Council. Co-authored by Arthur Laffer, a Reagan economic adviser, and Stephen Moore, an economist at the Heritage Foundation, the report titled “Rich States, Poor States” identifies key ingredients of a thriving economy: low personal and corporate income-tax rates, reasonable property- and sales-tax burdens, restraint on the number of government employees and curbs on state spending.

Conversely, big-government policy decisions such as onerous tax burdens, an elevated minimum wage and high rates of public debt have put people and businesses to flight.

SALISBURY, Md. (AP) -- A Delmar man convicted of fatally shooting another man and shooting at the victim's son has been sentenced to 75 years in prison.

Thirty-year-old Eddie Lee Savage Jr. was convicted in February of second-degree murder of 48-year-old Kenneth Sparks of Hurlock. He was sentenced Thursday in Wicomico County Circuit Court.

Authorities say Savage shot Kenneth Sparks in the face after an argument July 7 in a driveway outside Savage's home. Prosecutors say Savage also shot at Kenneth Sparks' adult son, Joshua Sparks.

When government looks more like foe than friend

Feds who send arms against ranch families betray American values

The Bundy case in Nevada provides many insights into the state of our nation with respect to the relationship between the people and the government.

The Bundys appear to be honorable American citizens without adequate legal counsel to help resolve a federal land issue about which they disagree with the Bureau of Land Management. Without question, they violated some of the innumerable laws and regulations that continue to entangle every aspect of American life.

Their violations could certainly have been handled through a multitude of less brutal means than those employed by our federal government, which through the mouthpiece of Sen. Harry Reid emphasizes how important it is for the government to enforce its laws.

It is quite interesting to see, though, that the same bureaucrats refuse to enforce some of our federal border-protection laws and other domestic policies with which they disagree. Perhaps Mr. Reid’s time could be better spent explaining why it is acceptable for the federal government to pick and choose which laws it wishes to enforce.

Bad loser: 'Call of Duty' gamer calls in SWAT team on teen who won

A gamer who lost an online battle of “Call of Duty” took out his frustration to the extreme, calling in a hoax threat that ultimately sent an army of ground police, helicopter cops and emergency response vehicles to the home of the game winner.

The police apparently had their guns drawn when they arrived at the Long Island home, the New York Post reported.

The complaint — a prank, it turns out — was allegedly initiated over Skype against winning gamer Rafael Castillo, 17, of Long Beach. The prank caller told police he was Rafael and that: “I just killed my mother, and I might shoot more people,” police reported.

But Rafael was simply the winning gamer — and his losing competitor was angry that he had been eliminated from the online game, police said. Still, police didn’t know that and went on high alert, the New York Post said.

They responded to the home with scrambled helicopters and 60 armed officers, including members of the Nassau County special operations elite unit, a SWAT team. Firetrucks also sped to the home, the New York Post said.

NO ONE CARES HOW MANY PREDICTIONS EARTH DAY FOUNDERS GOT WRONG

The original Earth Day was proposed at the 1969 United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization Conference in San Francisco by peace activist John McConnell and supported by UN Secretary General U Thant to honor peace on earth and the first day of spring on March 21, 1970.

Earth Day was hijacked a month later by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson (D-WI) as a day for environmental and social injustice teach-ins on April 22, 1970 (Lenin’s birthday).

This year’s UN celebration, to be held in 192 countries, is titled “Mother Earth Day,” because according to the U.N. "Mother Earth"
is a fairly common phrase: “Bolivians call Mother Earth ‘Pachamama’ and Nicaraguans refer to her as ‘Tonantzin.'"

David Stockman Blasts "America's Housing Fiasco Is On You, Alan Greenspan"

So far we have experienced 7 million foreclosures. Beyond that there are still 9 million homeowners seriously underwater on their mortgages and there are millions more who are stranded in place because they don’t have enough positive equity to cover transactions costs and more stringent down payment requirements.

And that’s before the next down-turn in housing prices - a development which will show-up any day. In fact, another downward plunge is a positive certainty now that the buy-to-rent LBO speculators are rapidly pulling out of those “flash” bull markets in Arizona, California, Los Vegas, Florida and elsewhere. The latter were merely short-lived price eruptions which were an artifact of the Fed’s free money policies.

Yet even as Wall Street heads out of Dodge City the normal wave of organic buyers is nowhere to be seen. That’s because the inexorable normalization of interest rates is already beginning to drive housing affordability even further south among the diminishing cohort of buy-to-occupy households with sufficient income to meet today’s financing standards.

Among the latter, incomes are stagnant in real terms and have been so for a decade. In the absence of real income gains, therefore, the “affordable” price of housing is essentially an inverse function of the cost of leveraged carry. As the latter goes up, the former goes down.

Good News, Bad News In Wicomico River Audit

SALISBURY- In conjunction with the arrival of Earth Day, Maryland Attorney General and gubernatorial candidate Doug Gansler this week released the results of his audit of the Wicomico River conducted last summer and the results for the watershed were generally mixed.

Gansler on Tuesday released his 2013 Chesapeake Bay Environmental Audit, which last year focused on four watersheds around the state that feed into the bay. Included among the watershed audits released this week was the Wicomico River, which flows from southern Sussex County in Delaware through Wicomico County and Salisbury and ultimately across the Lower Shore to Somerset where it connects with the lower Chesapeake Bay. Other watersheds audited by the Attorney

General in 2013 included the Liberty and Pretty Boy reservoirs in Baltimore and Carroll Counties and the Antietam Creek in Washington County. During the audits, Gansler met with residents, environmental activists and local leaders who live and work in the communities to hear firsthand from those who know, use and appreciate the diverse watersheds.

Why is the federal government so obsessed with grabbing more land? After all, the federal government already owns more than 40 percent of the land in 9 different U.S. states. Why are federal bureaucrats so determined to grab even more? Well, the truth is that this all becomes much clearer once you understand that there is a very twisted philosophy behind what they are doing. It is commonly known as “Agenda 21″, although many names and labels are used for this particular philosophy. Basically, those that hold to this form of radical environmentalism believe that humanity is utterly destroying the planet, and therefore the goal should be to create a world where literally everything that we do is tightly monitored and controlled by control freak bureaucrats in the name of “sustainable development”. In their vision of the future, the human population will be greatly reduced and human activity will be limited to strictly regulated urban areas and travel corridors. The rest of the planet will be left to nature. To achieve this goal, a massive transfer of land from private landowners to the federal government will be necessary.

So the conflict between Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy and the BLM is really just the tip of the iceberg. The reality is that the BLM has their eyes on much bigger prizes.

For example, Breitbart is reporting that the BLM is looking at grabbing 90,000 privately-held acres along the Texas/Oklahoma border…

After the recent Bundy Ranch episode by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Texans are becoming more concerned about the BLM’s focus on 90,000 acres along a 116 mile stretch of the Texas/Oklahoma boundary. The BLM is reviewing the possible federal takeover and ownership of privately-held lands which have been deeded property for generations of Texas landowners.

Sid Miller, former Texas State Representative and Republican candidate for Texas Agriculture Commissioner, has since made the matter a campaign issue to Breitbart Texas.

“In Texas,” Miller says, “the BLM is attempting a repeat of an action taken over 30 years ago along the Red River when Tommy Henderson lost a federal lawsuit. The Bureau of Land Management took 140 acres of his property and didn’t pay him one cent.”

Rights Before Law

The point of government among free men and women is to protect individual rights. The law rests on rights. Before there is law, codified or part of local practice, there are people, individuals with their rights who may need and want competent and professional protection of such rights.

Accordingly, when one is born into a free country, one is immediately recognized as a rights-holding individual. If all the officers of the law were to vanish – in an earthquake or tsunami – those who live in the area would have and keep having their rights just as they would have and keep having their birthday. Law and documentation follow.

One born to parents who own property – such as land, goods, etc. – and bequeath it to their offspring can thus own property as well. Furthermore, one may hire – elect – some fellow citizens to provide one with protection of such rights. One can reach an agreement, a compact, with some who would be paid for their legal services. A contract or constitution could be entered into so as to formalize the agreement.

Maryland’s Endemic Corruption: An Object Lesson for the Nation

Maryland is one of the most corrupt states in our nation. Nowhere is this fact more evident than with the state’s treatment of illegal aliens. Maryland politicians have literally become lawless in their efforts to cultivate illegals, and this lawlessness flows downhill from the very top. I will focus on a few of the more egregious examples.

In 2011, we published a report on CASA de Maryland, a Silver Spring-based illegal immigrant advocacy group that parrots ACORN in both its methods and associates—which include the Communist Party USA, FMLN, (a former Salvadoran communist guerilla group, now a political party), ACORN and others. Yet it is one of the most influential organizations in the state.

CASA receives significant state government funding, while Director Gustavo Torres and his wife, Sonia Mora both hold influential positions within that same government. Torres is a member of the Governor’s Council for New Americans and served on Governor Martin O’Malley’s transition team. Mora sits on the Governor’s Hispanic Affairs Commission and manages Montgomery County’s Latino Health Initiative. This is unseemly if not illegal. Torres’ primary source of income is CASA de Maryland, and CASA owes its inordinate influence to its many supporters in state government.

NATIONAL DRUG TAKE BACK DAY, IS APRIL 26, 201: DISPOSE OF UNUSED AND UNWANTED PRESCRIPTIONS DRUGS

(Pikesville, MD) – The Maryland State Police, in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration, are asking citizens to dispose of unwanted prescription drugs during the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day this coming Saturday, April 26, 2014 from 10:00 am to 2:00 p.m. statewide.

State police barracks throughout Maryland will be participating in the National Drug Take Back Day. Each barrack will act as a collection station, providing citizens an opportunity to dispose of all unwanted and unused prescription drugs. The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while educating the general public about the potential dangers of possessing unused medications.

Second only to marijuana, non-medical prescription drugs are the most commonly used drugs in the country. According to the Drug Enforcement Administration, majority of teenagers abusing prescription drugs are finding an unlimited supply in their family’s medicine cabinet.

During the previous initiative in October 2013, Maryland State Police collected over 1,100 pounds of prescription drugs locally. Nationally, 648,000 pounds (324 tons) of prescription medications were collected from members of the public. When added to the collections from the past five Take-Back events, more than 3.4 million pounds (1,700 tons) of prescription medications have been removed from circulation.

Twenty-one barracks, five MVA locations and the YMCA in Harford County will have collection boxes available. Contact your local state police barrack to find out where the closest National Prescription Drug Take Back collection box is in your area.

FATHER, I Wanted a Car, Not a Bible

A young man was getting to graduate from college. For many months he had admired a beautiful sports car in a dealers showroom, and knowing his father could well afford it, he told him that was all he wanted.

As Graduation Day approached, the young man awaited signs that his father had purchased the car. Finally, on the morning of his graduation, his father called him into his private study, told him how proud he was to have such a fine son, and how much he loved him. He handed him a beautifully wrapped gift box.

Curious, but somewhat disappointed, the young man opened the box and found a lovely, leather-bound Bible, with his name embossed in gold.
Angrily, he raised his voice to his father and said, "With all your money you give me a Bible?" He stormed out of the house, leaving the Bible behind.

Many years passed and the young man was very successful in business. He had a beautiful home and wonderful family, but realized his father was very old. He thought perhaps he should go to him. He had not seen him since that graduation day. But before he could make arrangements, he received a telegram telling him his father had passed away, and willed all of his possessions to him. He needed to come home immediately and take care of things.

When he arrived at his father's house, sadness and regret filled his heart. He began to search through his father's important documents and saw the Bible, new, just as he had left it years ago. With tears, he opened the Bible and began to turn the pages. His father had carefully underlined a verse, Matt 7:11, "And if ye, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Heavenly Father which is in Heaven, give to those who ask Him?"

As he read those words, a car key dropped from the back of the Bible. It had a tag with the dealer's name, the same dealer who had the sports car he had desired. On the tag was the date of his graduation, and the words... PAID IN FULL.
