CARSON: Political correctness and the slavery of Obamacare

Speech taboos are meant to silence patriotic dissent

When I was in high school in Detroit, there was a great deal of emphasis on clothing.

As I became increasingly interested in fitting in with the “in crowd,” fashion supplanted academic achievement in my hierarchy of importance. My grades plummeted and I became a person who was less pleasant and more self-absorbed.

My mother was very disappointed, because she thought I had enough insight and intelligence to avoid the flypaper trap of acting like everyone else.

Fortunately, after wasting a year pursuing acceptance, I realized that my dreams went far beyond silk shirts and sharkskin pants. I decided to forsake the “in crowd” and redoubled my academic efforts in time to rescue my sinking grade-point average and gain admission to an Ivy League university.

EPA arms Democrats with data, snubs Republicans

Little trace of FOIA requests from Republicans

With midterm elections not far off, Democratic opposition researchers are armed with thousands of pages of records obtained from the Environmental Protection Agency through the Freedom of Information Act, far outpacing known Republican efforts to pry information loose from the agency, records show.

Democrats have filed more than 50 FOIA requests, including lots seeking correspondence between Republicans and EPA officials — letters that operatives will scour for any hint that politicians’ rhetoric doesn’t square with how they conduct themselves outside of public view. Their findings help supply a steady flow of material for damaging news stories and campaign ads.

Why Good Managers Are So Rare

Gallup has found that one of the most important decisions companies make is simply whom they name manager. Yet our analysis suggests that they usually get it wrong. In fact, Gallup finds that companies fail to choose the candidate with the right talent for the job 82% of the time.

Bad managers cost businesses billions of dollars each year, and having too many of them can bring down a company. The only defense against this massive problem is a good offense, because when companies get these decisions wrong, nothing fixes it. Businesses that get it right, however, and hire managers based on talent will thrive and gain a significant competitive advantage.

Allen West On Republican Vs Democrat

On March 20, 1854 the Republican Party was established in Ripon, Wisconsin. Referred to as the GOP or Grand Old Party, it established for one reason: to break the chains of slavery and ensure the unalienable rights endowed by the Creator of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness would be for all Americans.

The Republican Party was created to achieve individual freedom. Then, as now, the antagonist to the Republican party has been the Democrats, the party of collective subjugation and individual enslavement — then physical, now economic.

The first black members of the US House and Senate were Republicans. The first civil rights legislation came from Republicans. Democrats gave us the KKK, Jim Crow, lynchings, poll taxes, literacy tests, and failed policies like the “Great Society.”

STUDY: NJ'S BUDGET CRISIS FUELED BY EXODUS OF WEALTHY RESIDENTS FLEEING TAXES

A white paper from investment advisory corporationRegentAtlantic finds that New Jersey is losing high percentages of its revenue to wealthy residents moving out to states like Pennsylvania and Florida in the hopes of escaping the highest taxes in the nation.

New Jersey reached record levels of debt last year and Moody's lowered its outlook for the state, citing insufficient revenue to maintain the burdensome state infrastructure that boasts an unwieldy number of public pensions and municipal governments. Moody's chided Chris Christie's administration for its "sluggish" recovery from the late-2000s recession and blamed the state's insufficient revenue for the problem. As a result, Democrats in the state are pushing for higher taxes on the wealthy to generate more revenue.

RegentAtlantic finds in their recently-released white paper that much of the reason for the low revenue intake is that the state's tax burden is disproportionately upon the shoulders of the wealthy, a high percentage of which are simply moving out and taking their money with them.

Publishers Notes: Is Maryland next?

STUDY: 38% OF MINIMUM-WAGE EMPLOYERS WILL FIRE WORKERS IF MINIMUM WAGE REACHES $10.10

A new survey reports that if Congress raises the current minimum wage from $7.25 to $10.10, there will be catastrophic effects. Among private employers paying the minimum wage, 38% will fire workers, 54% will reduce the number of employees they hire, and 65% will raise the prices on the goods and services they provide.

The survey, conducted by Express Employment Professionals, also revealed that among employers including those who pay minimum wage and those who pay more, if the minimum wage is raised, 19% would fire workers, 39% would cut their hiring, and 51% would raise their prices.

The Congressional Budget Office said last month that even raising the country’s minimum wage gradually to $10.10 by 2016 would see employment numbers plummet by 500,000 workers by the second half of 2016. Other estimates say that there is a 70% chance that the number of 500,000 could zoom close to one million.

GOVERNOR O’MALLEY ISSUES STATEMENT ON COMMISSIONER SPEAKES-BACKMAN ELECTION

ANNAPOLIS, MD – Governor O’Malley issued the following statement in response to the announcement that Maryland Public Service Commissioner Kelly Speakes-Backman will serve as the Chairman of the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, Inc.'s Board of Directors:

“I congratulate Commissioner Speakes-Backman on her election as the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative Inc. (RGGI). I am delighted to have someone with her breadth of knowledge and experience in energy, sustainability, renewable energy and environmental business strategies take up the helm at such a crucial time in RGGI’s development.

“Here in Maryland we've set one of the most aggressive goals in the country, committing to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions 25% by 2020. We've made some progress, but there is still more work to do. Almost half of those reductions must come from the energy sector, and the market-based RGGI structure is critical to realizing our goal of creating a better, more sustainable future for our State.”

This Is The Most Perfect Response To Labor Protesters

You know when youʼre driving along and see those “Labor Dispute” banners to bring shame upon the business? Literally, the banners read “Labor Dispute. Shame on <company name>.”

I usually just roll my eyes and feel sorry for the business owners. However, a Kansas Subaru dealership dealt with this in the most ingenious way possible.

The signs left by United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local 201, read “Shame on Subaru of Wichita.” The dealership added a second banner reading “For having unbeatable prices.”

Study: 38 percent of private employers will cut workers if minimum wage is raised

WASHINGTON – Thirty-eight percent of America’s private employers say they will lay off workers if Congress agrees to raise the minimum wage to $10.10, according to a new survey by the nation’s largest privately held staffing firm.

Fifty-four percent of employers who are paying their workers the current minimum wage of $7.25 per hour say they would reduce hiring, while 65 percent say they would raise prices on their goods and services to offset the bumps in pay.

Lt. Governor, Seaford School District Announce New District-Wide Elementary School Breakfast Program

DOVER, DE – Yesterday, Lieutenant Governor Matt Denn was joined by Seaford School District officials to announce that the Seaford School District is the first Delaware school district to join his campaign to allow students to eat breakfast in the classroom in all of its elementary schools.

National research has demonstrated that eating breakfast has a significant impact on students’ academic performance and overall well-being, and that allowing students to eat breakfast in the classroom dramatically increases the number of students who eat a nutritious breakfast. Delaware ranks 22nd in the country with respect to the percentage of income-eligible students who eat breakfast at school. Prior to Seaford accepting the Lieutenant Governor’s challenge, the Colonial School District was the only other school district in Delaware that offered breakfast to all of its elementary school students.

“Offering breakfast in the classroom is something that we know will help our kids, and something that we can do today,” Lieutenant Governor Denn said. “I applaud Seaford for its effort, and I hope other districts will follow suit. When I leave Seaford today, I’ll be driving to yet another elementary school in a nearby district to talk to its principal about following Seaford’s example.”

Comment Presented to WCBE

Below was presented at Worcester County School Board Meeting on 3/18/14

September 2010, the United States Department of Education (USDE) awarded the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) $170 million grant to develop tests aligned to Common Core State Standards (CCSS).

Worcester County School Board Members continue to promote that curriculum is still controlled at the local level. That’s not true. If you don’t own the test you don’t own the curriculum because no one builds a test unless they’re planning to teach the answers. As Bill Gates said in July 2009, “When the tests are aligned to the common standards, the curriculum will line up as well.” USDE even went further last year when they established a technical review panel whose sole purpose is to evaluate the aligned PARCC tests. In other words, the Feds will get what they want tested.

When PARCC was awarded their $170M grant they signed a cooperative agreement between them and USDE that offered some troubling terms:

1) "...including, but not limited to working with the USDE to develop a strategy to make student level data that results from the assessment system available on an ongoing basis for research."

2) "The Grantee must provide timely and complete access to any and all data collected at the state level to USDE or its designated program monitors, technical assistance providers or researcher partners.“ So anyone that the government chooses will have access to that information. In short, the government wants to collect a dossier on every child containing highly intrusive personal information without asking permission or even notifying parents.

According to a December report prepared by Maryland State Department of Education for the Legislative Budget Committee, the PARCC tests will be administered in two testing windows, March & May. The number of students being tested will increase from 300,000 to over 1.1 million. Testing time per student will increase a minimum of 70%. The report further shows that the vast majority of schools in MD are not technologically prepared to give the new online PARCC tests and at least $100 million will have to be spent by 2015 to get ready. That doesn't include the costs of the PARCC test which could be another $30 to $60 million per year.

There you have it::

Federal Government Intervention
Loss of Local Control of Curriculum
Data Mining
Increase Testing Times
Out of Control Costs

All Brought to you by PARCC and the Federal Government.

New Orleans' Winning Strategy in the War on Blight

A city with one of the nation’s worst blight problems is now considered a national leader in reducing vacant and dilapidated properties.
Few urban problems are more insidious than blight. Vacant or dilapidated properties suppress property values, threaten public safety, chase away investment and hurt quality of life.

Blight was a challenge for New Orleans even before Hurricane Katrina flooded nearly 80 percent of the city's housing stock in 2005. By 2010, New Orleans had perhaps the country's worst blight problem, affecting an estimated 43,755 properties -- nearly one-quarter of the city's residential addresses.

So it might be something of a surprise that the city now is considered a national model for blight reduction. What might be even more surprising is how that turnaround has been accomplished in little more than three years.

Miller ‘Reluctantly’ Supports Estate Tax Cut He’s Sponsoring

Though he’s listed as chief sponsor of a bill that would cut Maryland’s estate tax, Senate President Mike Miller said Wednesday he only “reluctantly” supports his legislation, and its House equivalent, which delegates passed last week.

But, Miller said, it is important to keep Maryland’s rate competitive to those of other states.

“The fact is that we’re not [just] losing people to Florida,” Miller said, after the Senate gave preliminary approval to SB 602.

“We’re losing to Delaware, we’re losing to Virginia, North Carolina, we’re losing to Tennessee. I wish those states hadn’t abolished their estate tax, but they have. We’re in competition to keep our Marylanders home.”

Medical Marijuana Oil Catches On in States

Moved by stories of children suffering, a growing number of states are carving out exceptions to their laws against medical marijuana for an extract of the plant that advocates say helps relieve severe seizures.

So far, legislation has mostly appeared in the South, where no state is among the 20 in the U.S. that have already legalized marijuana for medicinal purposes. But Utah’s legislature was the first to pass such a bill, which Gov. Gary Herbert is expected to sign. Kentucky, which unanimously approved a bill in its Senate earlier this month, could be the next to join. Lawmakers in Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama and North Carolina have either submitted bills or pledged to push for legislation once their state assembly sessions begin.

Hagerstown Man, A ‘Medical Mystery,’ Acquitted Of Assault, Other Charges In Scuffle With Police

A Hagerstown man who broke a set of steel handcuffs and was shocked with stun guns 30 or more times during a struggle last summer with five police officers was acquitted Tuesday during a trial before a judge in Washington County Circuit Court.

“This is, as far as I’m concerned, a medical mystery,” Circuit Judge Daniel P. Dwyer said as he granted the motion for acquittal on all charges against Nicholas Edward Borum, 32, of Outer Drive.

There was no evidence in the two-day trial “to explain the phenomenal strength Mr. Borum exhibited” on the morning of July 10, 2013, Dwyer said.

On that morning, Hagerstown police responded to a report of a burglary in progress near Borum’s home, according to the statement of probable cause.

No Obamacare Slogan Is Going to Save Dems

Supporters of the law will never find a winning message for this fall.

Since the Republican victory in Florida’s special congressional election last week, Democrats have been struggling with how to bear the electoral albatross that is Obamacare.

Having apparently decided that they cannot run away from the president’s health-care law, and seeing their “mend it don’t end it” strategy come up short in Florida, a growing number of pundits and strategists are now calling for Democrats to trumpet their support for the law.

O-Care premiums to skyrocket

Health industry officials say ObamaCare-related premiums will double in some parts of the country, countering claims recently made by the administration.

The expected rate hikes will be announced in the coming months amid an intense election year, when control of the Senate is up for grabs. The sticker shock would likely bolster the GOP’s prospects in November and hamper ObamaCare insurance enrollment efforts in 2015.

The industry complaints come less than a week after Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius sought to downplay concerns about rising premiums in the healthcare sector. She told lawmakers rates would increase in 2015 but grow more slowly than in the past.

“The increases are far less significant than what they were prior to the Affordable Care Act,” the secretary said in testimony before the House Ways and Means Committee.

Her comment baffled insurance officials, who said it runs counter to the industry’s consensus about next year.

Maryland Seeking Public Input for Federal Action on Climate Change Preparedness

Governor O’Malley is currently serving as a member of President Obama’s Task Force on Climate Preparedness and Resilience, charged with advising the President as to how federal agencies can best help states and communities understand, prepare for, and reduce the impacts of climate change.

“Recognizing that climate change impacts all sectors of our economy, society and environment, the Task Force is examining impacts and response strategies for a range of sectors, including disaster recovery, infrastructure investments, natural resource management, agriculture, human health and community development,” said Governor O’Malley. “The State is depending on Marylanders, those who see and experience climate change firsthand, to provide their observations, thoughts and ideas to help us improve State and Federal action.”

What U.S. States Have The Highest And Lowest Taxes?

If you hate paying taxes, pay attention to where you live. Residents of the nation's lowest-tax states pay less than one-quarter of the levies contributed by those in the highest-tax states. And that's even when they earn the same amount and spend the same amount on everything from housing to beer, according to an analysis by personal finance site WalletHub.

The site looked at 10 different taxes, from property and state and local income taxes to those on vehicles, food, alcohol, fuel, telecommunications and sales. The total tax hit was based on a hypothetical individual earning $65,596, with a $174,600 home, a $17,547 car and who spends a set amount -- the national average -- on everything from groceries to gas.

How Many More Lives Will Be Taken Under Delegate Norm Conway's Leadership

Last month I did an article explaining to everyone how understaffed Parole & Probation in Wicomico County is. If you'll recall, I published another article about a Salisbury man who was in the system who had taken off to Florida and killed a Police Officer.

Well, guess what. The guy who was shot two days ago was also in the system and being monitored by Parole & Probation. Here's the big question to you. Do YOU think YOU could handle 600 to 700 criminals on a daily basis?

When we did our article last month we explained how overwhelmed these Officers are. We also explained how their Union plead with Norm Conway for years for additional help, yet Conway ignored their Union.

How many more lives have to be at risk under your leadership Mr. Conway? Your District is rapidly growing and criminals are proving to be more aggressive towards Police Officers. We sent out a warning shot last month, thankfully the Police Officer was not killed. Shall we wait until one is?

OCPD DETECTIVES ARREST DELMAR MAN

Earlier this month, the Ocean City Police Department’s Narcotics Unit and Special Enforcement Unit (SEU) received information of a wanted fugitive frequenting Ocean City. Through investigations initiated by detectives, the wanted fugitive was identified as Andre Rafel Johnson, 28, of Delmar, MD. Johnson had outstanding warrants for his arrest in Maryland and an extraditable warrant in Delaware.

On Friday, March 14, 2014, at approximately 11:25 p.m., detectives were able to locate and arrest Johnson without incident at a local Ocean City hotel. During the arrest, Johnson was found to be in possession of heroin and detectives seized over $3,500 in U.S. currency.

Johnson was charged by Ocean City police with felony and misdemeanor heroin charges. Johnson was transferred to the Worcester County Jail on $100,000 bond.

LETTER FROM THE POST OFFICE

Our 14-year-old dog Abbey died last month.

The day after she passed away my 4-year-old daughter Meredith was crying and talking about how much she missed Abbey.

She asked if we could write a letter to God so that when Abbey got to heaven, God would recognize her.

I told her that I thought that we could, so she dictated these words:

Dear God,

Will you please take care of my dog?
Abbey died yesterday and is with you in heaven.
I miss her very much.

I 'm happy that you let me have her as my dog even though she got sick.
I hope you will play with her.
She likes to swim and play with balls.

I am sending a picture of her so when you see her you will know that she is my dog.

I really miss her.
Love, Meredith

We put the letter in an envelope with a picture of Abbey & Meredith, addressed it to God/Heaven.

We put our return address on it.

Meredith pasted several stamps on the front of the envelope because she said it would take lots of stamps to get the letter all the way to heaven.
That afternoon she dropped it into the letter box at the post office.

A few days later, she asked if God had gotten the letter yet.
I told her that I thought He had.

Yesterday, there was a package wrapped in gold paper on our front porch addressed, 'To Meredith' in an unfamiliar hand.

Meredith opened it.
Inside was a book by Mr. Rogers called, 'When a Pet Dies.'

Taped to the inside front cover was the letter we had written to God in its opened envelope.

On the opposite page was the picture of Abbey & Meredith and this note:

Dear Meredith,

Abbey arrived safely in heaven. Having the picture was a big help and I recognized her right away.

Abbey isn't sick anymore.
Her spirit is here with me just like it stays in your heart.

Abbey loved being your dog.

Since we don't need our bodies in heaven, I don't have any pockets to keep your picture in so I'm sending it back to you in this little book for you to keep and have something to remember Abbey by.

Thank you for the beautiful letter and thank your mother for helping you write it and sending it to me.

What a wonderful mother you have. I picked her especially for you.

I send my blessings every day and remember that I love you very much.

By the way, I'm easy to find.
I am wherever there is love.

Love,  God

SOPA: Dead in Congress, Alive in Trans-Pacific Partnership

Lobbyists who once unsuccessfully pushed for federal control over the Internet are now finding new hope in the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).

President Obama recently named Robert Holleyman deputy U.S. trade representative. Although he has worked until recently as a “chief executive of BSA/the Software Alliance, a trade organization for software companies that counts Apple, IBM, Microsoft and other top computer firms among its members,” a couple of years ago, Holleyman worked as a professional promoter of the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), a bill introduced in 2011 by Representative Lamar Smith (R-Texas).

The official purpose of SOPA was to “expand the ability of U.S. law enforcement to combat online copyright infringement and online trafficking in counterfeit goods.” In reality, though, the measure would have surrendered control of the Internet to federal agencies.

Much to Holleyman’s chagrin, the reaction to SOPA was so widespread that it led to the “largest online protest in history.” The bill was practically stillborn in Congress, but the multinational industries promoting it were not to be denied.

Make Democrats Pay for Obamacare and Obamanomics

My humble advice to the GOP: Don't look a gift horse in the mouth. Don't fail to grasp the significance of the Florida election. Make Democrats pay for their president and their shared agenda.

Don't listen to any in the liberal media, the Democratic Party spin machine or any establishment Republican types who tell you Obama didn't get his metaphorical head handed to him in the Florida special election for a House seat last week. Ignore those who tell you that you can't tie this anchor around Democratic candidates who either supported Obamacare when it was being pushed or defiantly stand by it now.

Rejoice that White House officials and many Democratic apparatchiks are denying that Obamacare was "on the ballot in Florida" and are applauding without an ounce of credibility that Obamacare has now turned the corner because the government's website is allegedly now functioning more efficiently.

More Warren Buffett Hypocrisy; Restructures Deal To Avoid $400 Million In Taxes

Warren Buffett epitomizes everything that is wrong with the global economy, and the U.S. economy specifically. He is the consummate crony capitalist, a brilliant yet conniving oligarch who intentionally plays on the gullibility of the masses to portray himself as one thing, when in reality he is something else entirely.

He publicly talks about how rich people need to pay more in taxes, then turns around and pioneers new ways for his company Berkshire Hathaway to avoid hundreds of millions in taxes. He thinks that by going on television stuffing ice cream cones and hamburgers in his mouth and acting all grandfatherly that no one will notice who he is really is and the incredible hypocrisy of his actions.

I’ve pointed out “Uncle” Warren’s hypocrisy previously on these pages, most recently in my post from last March titled: Crony Capitalist “Uncle” Warren Buffett Drives Company Profits Using Derivatives.

MOVING PUZZLE

If you can put this puzzle together. You can say goodbye to Alzheimer's!

This is really clever and a bit challenging. As we older people are concerned with Alzheimer's disease, this puzzle may help dispel some fear. It's easy to put together if you are not affected by Alzheimer's disease, but impossible to do for someone with the disease. Give it a try. If this puzzle is particularly difficult for you, then your physician can offer you additional testing to check you for Alzheimer's.
