On March 20, 1854 the Republican Party was established in Ripon, Wisconsin. Referred to as the GOP or Grand Old Party, it established for one reason: to break the chains of slavery and ensure the unalienable rights endowed by the Creator of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness would be for all Americans.
The Republican Party was created to achieve individual freedom. Then, as now, the antagonist to the Republican party has been the Democrats, the party of collective subjugation and individual enslavement — then physical, now economic.
The first black members of the US House and Senate were Republicans. The first civil rights legislation came from Republicans. Democrats gave us the KKK, Jim Crow, lynchings, poll taxes, literacy tests, and failed policies like the “Great Society.” Read more
And the question is, why don't the Republicans shout out this history? Everybody has been brainwashed to think the Dems are the great liberators..so many people are shocked to learn that Martin Luther King was a Republican...to understand the mindset, I will (sort of) quote President Johnson upon passing a bunch of entitlement programs..."This will get us the black vote for the next hundred years..(he of course did not say "black")
Thanks for the find Joe. Most people dont realize the GOP has a history rich in fighting for the civil rights of black americans. And yes I say black americans. Alot of blacks find the term "african" american to be insulting. They were born and raised in american and not all of them are even OF african heritage. Wouldnt it be nice if the left in this country saw that.
The GOP has a rich history that is not continued in the present membership. Today's party is full of all those bigots that bolted the Democrats when LBJ championed civil rights.
9:28 You obviously don't know history very well... LBJ was as big or bigger a racist than any southern democrat! Democrats define bigotry and hate, they just disguise it with hypocrisy.
It seems that if the GOP or Republican party would face the past instead of saying to move on from it, many Americans would be more educated on the Civil Rights history of the Republican party. Politics is like Sales...if you are a good salesman, a lot of people will buy your product because of your presentation and the Democrats have had a pretty good run. If the Republican really wants to return to power, sell what the past really was and promote a more positive message to all Americans. You have the better product, you are just not selling it right. That is your key...Democrats have been outselling you. FYI - I didn't vote for Obama or Romney because i didn't feel like either one would be good for our country. One person that has a good sales pitch is Chris Christie...Keep him on a positive path, and maybe we can go into a new direction.
Sir,
ReplyDeleteYou have my vote. Step up to the plate.
