Another giant hog killed in eastern North Carolina
WAGRAM, N.C. (WGHP) – Another giant boar has been killed in eastern North Carolina.
Terrell Harris killed the massive wild hog in Scotland County around 2 a.m. Saturday.
Harris and his friends had to use a winch to load the massive boar on a trailer.
“A friend had pictures of it on a game camera for two nights. It had destroyed a 10-acre field of chuffa,” Terrell’s wife Dawn said. “Terrell and some friends butchered and processed the hog on Sunday.”
Dawn said the boar weighs at least 500 pounds.

I Never Knew That!
Q: Why do men's clothes have buttons on the right while women's clothes have buttons on the left?
A: When buttons were invented, they were very expensive and worn primarily by the rich. Since most people are right-handed, it is easier to push buttons on the right through holes on the left. Because wealthy women were dressed by maids, dressmakers put the buttons on the maid's right! And that's where women's buttons have remained since.
Q: Why do ships and aircraft use 'mayday' as their call for help?
A: This comes from the French word m'aidez - meaning 'help me,' and is pronounced, approximately, 'mayday.'
Q: Why are zero scores in tennis called 'love'?
A: In France, where tennis became popular, round zero on the scoreboard looked like an egg and was called 'l'oeuf,' which is French for 'egg.' When tennis was introduced in the US, Americans mispronounced it 'love.'

Vegas man stuck with $407,000 medical bill after ObamaCare breakdown
The busted ObamaCare websites cost a lot of people a lot of time. But for one Nevada man, problems with the state insurance exchange reportedly cost him $407,000.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that Larry Basich, a 62-year-old Vegas resident, has been stuck with the massive medical bill despite signing up for an insurance plan via the state exchange last fall.
Basich, according to the article, selected a UnitedHealthcare plan in November, and even paid his first premium. But he never received confirmation that he was enrolled, despite being assured that he was by Nevada Health Link.

Smoke-free beaches
Our view: Rehoboth Beach recently joined the growing ranks of coastal resort towns that ban smoking on the beach so why not Ocean City?
Polls show a majority of Americans support bans on smoking in public places. That wasn't true a decade ago, but the numbers are so high now — between 55 and 59 percent in recent years, according to Gallup — that a growing number of cities, towns and counties now restrict smoking in parks and other outdoor areas.
Last week, Rehoboth Beach joined the trend. Its commissioners voted to ban smoking not only on most of its beach but all along the town's boardwalk and bandstand. The ban, which takes effect on May 15, passed without objection.
That doesn't exactly make Rehoboth a rarity in the Mid-Atlantic coastal community. Within Delaware, Bethany Beach, Fenwick Island, Dewey Beach and the beachfront Delaware State Parks already ban smoking. Local residents were clearly ready for the change, hundreds having signed a petition requesting that Rehoboth Beach adopt the smoking ban.

Ron Paul Asks "If Spying On Senate Is So Bad, Why Is It OK For Them To Spy On Us?"
The reaction of Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) to last week’s revelations that the CIA secretly searched Senate Intelligence Committee computers reveals much about what the elites in government think about the rest of us. “Spy on thee, but not on me!”
The hypocrisy of Sen. Feinstein is astounding. She is the biggest backer of the NSA spying on the rest of us, but when the tables are turned and her staff is the target she becomes irate. But there is more to it than that. There is an attitude in Washington that the laws Congress passes do not apply to Members. They can trample our civil liberties, they believe, but it should never affect their own freedom.

Billions Wasted on “Improper” Food Stamp Payments
According to a new report issued by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), $2.7 billion worth of improper food stamp payments were made in fiscal year (FY) 2012. That equals 3.8 percent of total food stamp benefit payouts for that year.
The rate of improper food stamp payments has generally decreased since FY 2005. While this may be good news, because food stamp spending increased dramatically over this period, the amount of improper payments also increased. In the past nine years, the federal government has spent a grand total of $15.6 billion on improper food stamp payments.
What can be done to prevent this? One answer is a meaningful work requirement. Able-bodied adults should be required to work, prepare for work, or look for work in exchange for receiving assistance.

IT'S NOT JUST THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION FLOUTING THE LAW, SO IS THE FED—PART ONE
By now everyone knows that the Obama administration is deliberating choosing to disregard some laws, most notably Obamacare and immigration statutes, among others. By contrast, the Fed’s extra-legal moves have gone almost completely unreported by the press.
For example, the Fed recently issued its annual report. Some news stories focused on the big unrealized loss ($53 billion) in its securities portfolio, but none noted the illegal way in which the Fed created this loss.
One story described Republican critics of the unrealized loss as “unsophisticated… primitive… [holding] childlike beliefs about monetary policy.” Don’t they know that the Fed contributed $79 billion to the Treasury last year, a sum larger than the unrealized loss and a big help for the federal deficit?

W.H. Pastry Chef Quits: ‘I don’t want to demonize cream, butter, sugar and eggs’
Michelle Obama may have pushed the White House pastry chef a bit too far with her constant requests to replace fatty foods like cream and butter with lower-calorie options: He’s quit, calling the decision “bittersweet,” various media reported.
Bill Yosses, who was hired in 2007 under the George Bush administration, has announced he’s leaving his position in June and heading to the private sector in New York to teach people some healthy eating tactics, The New York Times reported.
While he admits part of his healthy eating influence came right from Mrs. Obama — who’s known for pushing her “Let’s Move” exercise and nutrition program around the nation — he also said that he’s not fully prepared to give up old-timey type ingredients that she’s deemed a threat, the New York Post reported.

Obama to Hispanics: We won’t deport relatives because you enroll in ObamaCare
President Obama on Tuesday sought to assure legal immigrants that they can sign up for ObamaCare without worrying that “the immigration people” will come for family members who are in the country illegally.
In an interview with Univision Deportes, a Spanish-language sports radio show, Obama said immigration officials won’t have access to the personal information that consumers provide when signing up for healthcare on the new exchanges.
“Well, the main thing for people to know is that any information you get, you know, asked with respect to buying insurance, does not have anything to do with … the rules governing immigration,” Obama said. “And you know, you can qualify if you’re a legal resident, if you are … legally present in the United States.

Owner of S.C. Pub Insults Gun Owners Across America With This Outrageous Sign
“NO CONCEALED WEAPONS ALLOWED. If you are such a loser that you feel a need to carry a gun with you when you go out, I do not want your business. Douchebag.”
That’s the message Backstreets Pub & Deli recently sent to gun owners with a sign posted in its store window. The backlash against the establishment, located in Clemson, S.C., was swift after the conservative website Twitchy posted several photos of the sign from Twitter.
The Washington Times reports that the pub has a one-star rating out of five on Yelp.com, “with pages upon pages of negative comments and reviews by Second Amendment supporters.”

Documents: Email Surveillance Began After 9/11 Under Bush Orders
Documents filed on Monday indicate the National Security Agency acted on the orders of former President George W. Bush and without court approval after 9/11 when it began gathering enormous amounts of data in a dragnet email sweep.
In a 28-page court filing released by the Justice Department, government lawyers acknowledged that the counterterrorism Internet program, in conjunction with a similar gathering of telephone metadata, operated under Bush's authority before being approved in 2004 by Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, according to Politico.
"Specifically, the president authorized the NSA to collect metadata related to Internet communications for the purpose of conducting targeted analysis to track" al-Qaida-related networks, a senior NSA official wrote in a previously sealed October 2007 declaration. "Internet metadata is header/router/addressing information, such as the 'to,' 'from,' 'cc,' and 'bcc' lines," Politico reported.
The extent of the government's surveillance program became public last June when NSA contractor Eric Snowden leaked a top-secret report outlining details of the program.

GOP BEGINS TO FIGHT BACK AGAINST OBAMA'S BROAD EXECUTIVE OVERREACH
Has President Obama's impunity come to an end?
After five years of his flouting the letter and spirit of the law in an increasingly brazen fashion, congressional Republicans have been starting to ramp up their rhetoric about Obama's lawlessness, their most concerted effort on the issue to date.
Several new reports from top Republicans underscore the breadth of Obama's executive overreach. Viewed comprehensively, it involves laws ranging from healthcare to immigration to privacy to technology to social issues to national security matters and more. Scandals like Benghazi, Operation Fast and Furious, the IRS targeting of conservative groups, NSA spying, CIA spying on Congress, the Delphi pensions scandal, the auto bailout and others have many unresolved questions – and unmet document and information demands.
Last week, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor re-released his 33-page October 2012report detailing 40 separate examples of “the break-down in the rule of law under the Obama Administration.” This time, Cantor added a nine-page addendum with scores more examples of lawlessness of the administration.

Al Qaeda Calls For Car Bombs In US Cities, Other 'Crusader' Countries
Al Qaeda is calling on terrorist affiliates to detonate car bombs in major U.S. cities, including New York, Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles, in the latest edition of its Inspire magazine.
The issue comes nearly a year after the Boston Marathon bombing, and as the city readies new security measures for this year's race, being held next month. Inspire is the same magazine that included instructions for how to make pressure cooker bombs, which were used in last year's Boston attack.
The magazine’s Spring 2014 issue urges jihadists to target heavily populated events such as political rallies and sporting events, both in the United States and abroad -- including in Great Britain, France and other “crusading” countries.

I Can Only Imagine...
Hello, this is Fox Corporate. We understand there's been a shooting in Salisbury involving a State Trooper, what have you got?
WBOC: Really, I hadn't heard that. We're on the late shift. Let me check Salisbury News and see if they have anything on it.
It would seem you are correct. Let me get back to you with the details...
I couldn't believe what I was seeing early this morning when we turned on WBOC and they actually announced they had just received details "5 minutes ago", yet we published the Press Release at 11:59 PM last night. We probably put it up earlier than that but changed the time so it would stay up top for the evening.
Yeah, Delmarva's News Leader. LMAO

Maryland Food Allergies Bill Could Change How Restaurants Operate
County governments may soon have authority to make restaurants accommodate customers with food allergies.
A new bill would let counties require each restaurant to have a staff member trained on food allergens, ready to advise customers. The bill would also require restaurants statewide to encourage customers to notify servers about their food allergies.
The Senate passed the measure 33-14 Monday evening. A similar bill is pending in a House committee.

The Democratic Party’s Bad Options
For Democratic strategists, 2014 is shaping up to look 1940 for the French generals.
It is reminiscent of the quandary faced by General Maurice Gamelin on the evening of May 15, 1940. Suddenly he realized that German panzer troops had broken through the supposedly impassable Ardennes.
French troops to the north were cut off and rendered useless, troops to the south were falling back in disarray on all sides, and no reserves were available between the front and Paris. “Yes,” he told the prime minister, “it means the destruction of the French Army.”
Now, analogies between military history and politics are never exact, and no one in American politics remotely resembles the Nazis. But there is some resemblance between the plight of General Gamelin and the plight of Democratic strategists in key Senate and congressional races this year.

NATO Allies Criticize U.S. For Being Caught Off Guard By Russia’s Military Buildup
Brushing aside President Obama’s threat of more sanctions, Russian President Vladimir Putin annexed the Crimean region of Ukraine on Tuesday with the stroke of a pen, while NATO members criticized Washington for getting caught off guard by Russia’s military buildup.
As the Russian national anthem played and cheering lawmakers wept,Mr. Putin and Crimean leaders signed a treaty in Moscow to make Crimea part of the Russian Federation, only two days after the region held a disputed referendum enforced by Russian troops.
“In the hearts and minds of people, Crimea has always been and remains an inseparable part of Russia,” Mr. Putin said in a passionate speech, adding that he had no further ambitions for Ukrainian territory.

750,000 – 850,000 Dead White People Was A GOOD Thing
That is the essential argument made by Jon Stewart and his cast of lying Lincolnites during their “Comedy Central” hatchet job on Judge Napolitano last week. They made this point in response to the fact that: 1) All other nations (i.e., British, Spanish, French, Danes, Dutch, Swedes, the Northern states of the U.S.) ended slavery peacefully in the nineteenth century. There were no “wars of emancipation” in New England, New York, or Illinois. So as to not even consider the possibility that America could have done the same in the 1860s, Stewart and his cast of liars and deceivers were making the point that since many slaves died during the transatlantic slave trade, the “Civil War” deaths were all justified. So shut up already! was their point. Two wrongs make a right after all. They deserved it.
This is a version of Lincoln’s Second Inaugural Address argument that: 1) Although he personally was not a Christian, he could read the mind of God; and 2) God’s mind told him that the war just “came” (Abe claimed to have nothing to do with it), and was God’s punishment of all Americans, North and South, for the sin of slavery. Argue with this theory and you are arguing with God. So shut up already! (Abe never attempted to explain why God would not have also punished the British, Spanish, French, etc. who were responsible for bringing 95% of all the slaves to the Western Hemisphere).

Probe demanded after Pa. prosecutor drops sting case against Democrats
A watchdog group is calling for an independent-counsel probe after Pennsylvania’s Democratic attorney general dropped the prosecution of four Democratic legislators accused of taking bribes in exchange for votes.
The Committee of Seventy, a government ethics group in Philadelphia, urged the Pennsylvania legislature this week to create an independent counsel to conduct “a fair and non-partisan” investigation into the dismissed sting operation.
“The public must be assured that a full and fair review has been conducted by someone without any personal or political interest in the outcome,” said Committee of Seventy President and CEO Zack Stalberg. “There are also extremely disturbing allegations that demand an independent, non-partisan investigation to determine if any laws were violated.”

NTSB Releases Report On Bay Bridge Crash
Crash Description
On Friday, July 19, 2013, about 8:24 p.m., a 2007 Chrysler Sebring passenger car operated by a 24-year-old female driver was traveling eastbound on US Route 50/301 near Annapolis, Maryland. The Chrysler had passed through the toll plaza to enter onto the eastbound span of the William Preston Lane, Jr., Memorial Bridge (Chesapeake Bay Bridge). Less than a mile past the toll plaza, after vehicles had merged from 11 toll lanes into two travel lanes, traffic began to slow as the bridge ascended above the Chesapeake Bay and curved to the left.
The Chrysler was in the right lane and had reduced speed to 4 mph due to the traffic queue ahead when it was struck from behind by a 2010 International truck-tractor and refrigerated semitrailer combination unit traveling 47 mph.[1] The truck-tractor, operated by a 29 year-old male driver, collided with the left rear corner of the Chrysler, pushing it into the concrete barrier adjacent to the right lane. As the truck-tractor and the Chrysler continued forward, the front of the Chrysler collided with a 2014 Mazda CX-5 occupied by a 65-year-old male driver and his wife. During the collision sequence, the Chrysler was pushed up onto the barrier wall and then rode along the top of it, before falling approximately 27 feet into the Chesapeake Bay. The Chrysler came to rest between two bridge piers to the south of the eastbound span, in approximately 7 feet of water. The Mazda rotated counter-clockwise and came to rest near the left front corner of the truck-tractor in the middle of the two travel lanes. (See figure 1 for the approximate location of the crash and figure 2 for the final rest of vehicles.)

Candidate David Craig Visits Albero Ranch
Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting Gubernatorial candidate David Craig.
It was a very unique interview as I wanted to express some of my ideas for the Eastern Shore. With great pleasure, Mr. Craig sat back and listened as I introduced my vision as to why we are so unique.
My goal, a commitment from Mr. Craig, (should he be elected) that he would recognize the Eastern Shore, far more so then O'Malley.
I expressed how Ocean City brings in the 2nd largest tax revenue to the state, yet their tax dollars mainly gets returned to Baltimore for transit projects. I expressed our highway tax dollars in Wicomico County doing the very same. Our roads and infrastructure are crumbling and our economy is in a depression, not a recession.
I was able to represent our Farmers as well as pollution on the Bay being blamed on Chicken Farmers here on the Shore and proved to Mr. Craig how that is a farce.
I then shared how our current Governor refuses to introduce the Eastern Shore as a viable location for businesses interested in relocating to the state.
Finally, I expressed how millions of people travel to Ocean City each summer and why the state should help financially in creating recreational Theme Parks here on the Shore. I expressed how the state invested $500,000,000.00 into the Ravens and Redskins for their new stadiums and the Eastern Shore should not be ignored.
I can tell you that Mr. Craig sat there in awe with the numerous ideas of how the Eastern Shore could be revitalized but we need a Governor who is willing to think out of the box.
By the end of our meeting I can tell you, the man who is all about "economic development" had a whole new view on a very bright future for the state and especially the Eastern Shore.
This meeting was just one of many to come. I'm giving you the short version of what we discussed as it was a long day for both of us. Should David Craig garnish enough support from the Eastern Shore and get elected, I firmly believe we will FINALLY be the recipient of a much brighter future. Lay off the Democrat/Republican thing for once Ladies & Gentlemen and THINK about our neighbors and our future here on the Shore. WE NEED REPRESENTATION and we haven't seen anything of the sort in many decades.
More to come...

Higher Wages For State-Funded Construction Pass Senate, House
Workers on many local school construction projects would be paid at a higher rate under a prevailing wage bill approved Tuesday by the Maryland Senate.
The bill would increase overall construction costs by as much as 5%, estimates the state Department of Legislative Services.
Republican legislators were critical of SB 232, sponsored by Baltimore County Democrat Norman Stone. The bill passed 32-15 and requires that local governments pay the prevailing wage if the state has contributed 25% of funding or more to a school construction project.

“McDermott’s Bomb Threat Bill Passes Through the House”
(ANNAPOLIS) House Bill 234, sponsored by Delegate Michael McDermott (R - Worcester & Wicomico), unanimously passed through Maryland’s House of Delegates last week. The bill, entitled “False Statement Concerning Destructive Device or Toxic Material - Venue” allows law enforcement the option to charge bomb threat suspects in multiple locations.
“This bill simply allows law enforcement to charge individuals who make bomb threats - for whatever reason - where the threat was made or the location that was the subject of the threat,” Delegate McDermott stated. “So if an individual threatens a business in Worcester County, but the call comes from Anne Arundel County, law enforcement can charge that individual in Worcester County.”

Supporters Believe Marijuana Decriminalization Bill Is In Trouble
Efforts to reduce the penalties for possessing small amounts of marijuana have appeared to come to a roadblock in the Maryland Legislature.
After the Senate approved its own marijuana decriminalization bill last week, the House Judiciary Committee postponed a scheduled vote on its own bill, first on Saturday, and then on Monday.
The panel’s chairman, Joe Vallario opposes both legalizing and decriminalizing marijuana. He is promising a hearing on the Senate bill.

Dead Bankers, Common Core, and Destruction of the Middle Class
Coincidence? No! The implementation of Common Core Standards is part of the educational plan to strip children of their self-determination and to establish a one-world economy. The educational system is not intended to accomplish this act alone. The impending collapse of the financial markets will complete the mission.
According to the Canadian Free Press, changes in banking rules under the Clinton administration created opportunities to consolidate wealth through the destruction of the middle class. Numerous bankers subpoenaed to testify about this criminality are missing or have been found dead under suspicious circumstances. The undermining of wealth held by the middle class began decades ago, and so did the undermining of the American educational system.
When educational experts Benjamin Bloom and B.F. Skinner decimated the educational system in the 1950s, A Nation at Risk: The Imperative for Education Reform was commissioned. The conclusions were that a foreign government imposing our current educational system on Americans would have committed an act of war and that the failing American educational system destabilizes American prosperity, security, and civility.
To accept a world economy and a one-world order, students must be taught a belief and value system that induces Americans to surrender their Constitutional Republic, their sovereignty, and their freedoms. Educational theorists acknowledge this fact.

Dead Voters Would Be Removed From Voter Rolls Faster
Maryland’s voter registration rolls are bloated with names of dead people – an estimated 20,000 as revealed by a 2013 study from the state Republican party — and lawmakers are seeking a way to streamline the process of purging those names.
Currently, State Board of Elections officials must receive authentication of a death from the the Vital Statistics Administration, which is under the Department of Mental Health and Hygiene. Without that notification, they are not permitted to remove a name from the voter registration list without corroboration from the deceased’s family.
The House unanimously passed a bill last week from Del. Kathy Afzali R-Frederick County that would eliminate some of these tedious steps, she said. It passed with 135 votes.

STATE POLICE ARREST MORE THAN 100 DRUNK DRIVERS THROUGH WEEKEND
(PIKESVILLE, MD) – State Police drunk driving patrols in every Maryland county during the St. Patrick’s Day weekend led to the arrests of more than 100 people who are suspected of driving under the influence.
From Friday, March 14th, through Monday, March 17th, Maryland state troopers arrested 120 drunk drivers during sobriety checkpoints, saturation patrols, and regular road patrols throughout the state. These efforts were in direct response to the known increase in drinking and driving resulting from holiday celebrations.
Troopers at the Berlin Barrack in Worcester County led the 22 State Police barracks with 17 DUI arrests, followed by the Golden Ring Barrack in Baltimore County with 13 arrests. The JFK Highway Barrack, where troopers patrol I-95 north of Baltimore and the Rockville Barrack in Montgomery County totaled 11 arrests each.

Stanford's Lazear: Net Employment Is Falling
Unemployment has fallen to 6.7 percent, as the economy created 175,000 new jobs in February. Wonderful.
Not so, says Stanford University business professor Edward Lazear. The jobs picture is actually quite bad, and the net number of jobs has falling.
The problem is the number of hours Americans worked dropped, points out Lazear, a former chairman of the president's Council of Economic Advisers, in an opinion piece for The Wall Street Journal.

‘Sickest Thing I’ve Ever Seen’! Abortion Nonprofit Rewards Donors With Horrific ‘Token Of Thanks’
Unfortunately it appears to be real. Here’s how the DC Abortion Fund (on Twitter here) describes itself:
DC Abortion Fund (DCAF) is an all-volunteer nonprofit that makes grants to women in DC, Maryland, and Virginia who cannot afford the full cost of an abortion. DCAF affirms women as decision-makers. We hope to make “choice” a reality because we believe that a woman’s right to healthcare should not depend on her wallet.

High school senior jailed, kicked out of school and may lose Army dream because of pocket knife in car
An Ohio high school student has already been jailed and kicked out of school for having a pocket knife in his car, and now he fears he could lose his dream of serving in the Army.
Jordan Wiser, a student at Ashtabula County Technical School in Jefferson, is finishing up his senior year from home after school officials searched his car in December and found the folding knife and an Airsoft gun. School officials called police, who charged him with illegal conveyance of a weapon onto a school ground based on the three-inch knife.
“I declined to allow them to search myself or my car and that I wanted to talk to my lawyer or my father,” Wiser told FoxNews.com. “They told me it wasn’t an option.”

Liberals and Their Uppity Enemies
Why do liberals hate Sarah Palin? She has made far fewer gaffes than has Joe
Biden, whose verbal mishaps have often been racist in nature. Is dropping your g’s worse than saying “corpse-men“? She does not believe that Canadians speak Canadian in the way the president thinks Austrians speak Austrian. Her life story is inspirational — working mom, without inherited privilege or capital, a successful pre-2008 tenure as an Alaska politician.
I think the animus — as opposed to just disagreement with her views — derives in part from the fact that she is vivacious and attractive in a fresh Sally Field sort of way, unlike the cheek-boned refinement of an Audrey Hepburn or Jackie Onassis. Or is it because her diction, syntax, and grammar (especially the use of the passive voice) resonate slightly lower middle-class America? She is what white grandees with real white privilege castigate as a beneficiary of white privilege that she never really had.
Much of the dislike is also because she is upbeat and unapologetic. She thinks America is a rare, good place and far better than the alternative. She is blunt about her values and politics, and does not seem to be skeptical, cynical, or ambivalent. Her “oh gosh” world is one of undisguised belief; she does not roll her eyes in David Letterman boredom. Nor does Palin adopt the Clinton on spec bite-the-lip, feel-your-pain anguish, clear evidence of the costs of feeling moral ambiguity.

3F THIS Friday
THIS Friday, March 21, The Powell Building, on the Plaza, will again host as 3rd Friday Headquarters, before we're outside again next month! Jewelry artists, fine artists and local artisans will be on display. Local singer songwriter Sarah Bernstein will be performing as part of the 3rd Friday Singer Songwriter Showcase, presented by Kuhn's Jewelers and West Main Recording. The 3rd Friday Artist Feature this month includes solo exhibits by three local artists, Joni Simpson, Kimberly Purnell and Camilla B.K. Lewis.
Featured Artist Joni Simpson is a local photographer by trade; a professional in the business of capturing moments and the essence of her subjects. But oftentimes, despite being on the other side of the lens, the essence Joni captures is really her own gracious and ethereal spirit. 3rd Friday is pleased to welcome you to what her friends have lovingly come to describe as The Joni Simpson Experience. Joni will be displaying examples of her work, both photography and portraiture, that she considers part of her own personal artistry. Feminine perspectives and often playful attitudes shine through Joni's works in beautiful ways, and offer themselves as evidence to her commitment to capturing the artistic beauty of women.
Salisbury Artist Kimberly Purnell enjoys working with bright colors and is inspired by exotic plants and animals. Recently Kim has been working mainly in oil pastel, but using it very much like a drawing medium, having found a lipstick-like brand that goes down allowing broad strokes and a lot of movement.

Billionaire buys $201 million life insurance policy
Somewhere in Silicon Valley, a billionaire has taken out $201 million in life insurance.
Guinness World Records, which announced the policy, said it is the largest ever issued.
Neither the record keeper nor the issuer would say who is covered by the massive policy.
Dovi Frances, the adviser who arranged the policy, would only say it went to a well-known technology billionaire from California.

Middle-Age Men Say No to Obamacare Plans
Anyone wondering why Obamacare is having a hard time meeting its enrollment projections, even after the problems with HealthCare.gov have mostly been fixed, will want to look at a survey released today by Bankrate.
The headline number from the telephone survey of more than 3,000 people is that 34 percent of respondents without insurance say they plan to stay that way, even after being told that the new law requires them to get covered or pay a penalty. What's more interesting is who's saying that:
It's not just the young. Of the 1,249 respondents without insurance, people age 18 to 29 were in fact the least likely to say they will remain uninsured, with just 28 percent making that claim. Among those 50 to 64, the figure was 33 percent; for those 30 to 49, 39 percent said they would stay uninsured.
