Carl Anderton Had A Busy Day Today
- The below posts came from Carl Anderton's facebook and twitter feed. He has had a long day today fighting for the people here on the shore.
- Carl Anderton Jr. On top of the Chicken Tax hearing, tonight was also the filing deadline. It appears that it will be yours truly against Delegate Conway.
I'm excited about the opportunity to serve on the state level. With your continued support we will do it! #makeithappen
- I just received a call from Mayor Anderton. He's finished testifying and said it went well. He said the last pro-chicken tax person said, "everyone you hear from who opposes this is from big poultry".
Mayor Anderton was up next. What he said is pure Carl:
"I am not from big poultry, but I do like eating the big piece of chicken. I don't know any of these other folks who are signed up to testify, but they look like nice folks."

To Control Or Destroy The Human Mind
February 22nd was the 71st anniversary of the murder of Sophie and Hans Scholl and their friend Christopher Probst. They were young people, in their early twenties, who lived in Munich, Germany. They, along with other members of a peaceful, anti-war group known as White Rose, published leaflets informing fellow-Germans of the wrongs being engaged in by the Nazi regime. The three were caught with such leaflets, quickly tried for the crime of “high-treason” and immediately executed by guillotine.
At her trial, Sophie testified: “Somebody, after all, had to make a start.” Her final words were: “How can we expect righteousness to prevail when there is hardly anyone willing to give himself up individually to a righteous cause.” When, in 2003, a nation-wide poll asked Germans to select the most important people in the history of Germany, Sophie and Hans Scholl finished in fourth place. They came out ahead of such men as Bach, Goethe, Gutenberg, Bismarck, Brandt, and Einstein!

Obama’s ‘Voter ID’ Scam is Busted!
Folks, we are being scammed. Democrats are winning elections through what appears to be massive voter fraud.
There is a saying, “He with the gold rules.” Well, whoever wins elections has the gold. The winner has the power to change everything - so they rule. It doesn’t matter if the win was by a small margin, or if the win was by committing fraud. Winning is everything.
Many citizens may not realize most national elections are won by a sliver of votes in only a few, key battleground states. Change the vote totals by a small bit in a few states and Mitt Romney is the president: Ohio, Florida, Virginia, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Wisconsin, Iowa, Pennsylvania.

Howard Stern Vows To Stop Voting Democrat: “They Are Communists”
I’ve always had a soft spot for Howard Stern. He’s smart, he’s hilarious, and his show has always had libertarian leanings. Now, it looks like he’s officially left the liberal plantation.
A few years after endorsing Obama, he’s changed his mind, ranting about Democrats’ “gangsterism.”
After FCC commissioners announced they have reached a deal to approve the merger of Sirius and XM, Stern ranted about Democrats’ ‘gangsterism’ and ‘communism’ and the obstacles to the merger.
Stern described a phone conversation he had with his agent, who he described as a “liberal Democrat kind of guy.”

Meet Berlin, MD, America's Coolest Small Town!
How does it feel to live in the Coolest Small Town in America? Ask the folks in Berlin, MD, the winner of Budget Travel's 9th annual America's Coolest Small Town contest!
Berlin's citizens—and fans from around the U.S. and beyond—helped get the town nominated last fall when Budget Travel solicited suggestions from tens of thousands of online readers. The editors tallied up the nominations, added a dash of editorial discretion for regional and cultural diversity, and came up with a list of 15 finalists—cool burghs from Upstate New York to the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California, from northern Colorado to the Everglades, and, of course, the Maryland shore.
Now, after more than a month of online voting, Berlin, MD (population 4,563), has earned the title of "Coolest."

Over 100 Congressmen Are Cosponsoring Bill To Sue Obama
Political gamesmanship, or Congress-come-lately? As much as I’d like to think the GOP is finally putting its big boy pants on, I’m not overly optimistic:
In light of Obama’s habitual disregard for the Constitution, the movement to sue the president for his transgressions is gaining ground — fast.
It all started with a few representatives threatening a lawsuit. This eventually led to thirty representatives co-sponsoring a resolution to sue the president… And then over seventy… And it has since ballooned to over one hundred co-sponsors, mostly thanks to Obama promising even more executive action as time passes.
The Stop This Overreaching Presidency (STOP) Resolution is a response to Obama violating his oath to the Constitution — namely Article 2, Section 3 which outlines the president’s duty to “take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed.”
While passage of the bill would make great headlines, the full post linked above shows the lawsuit may not do much, and the House may not have legal standing to sue. As importantly, there already exists a sure-fire method of preventing the President from continuing to abuse his powers: Congress’ constitutional power of the purse.

OBAMACARE KILLS ANOTHER 33K JOBS, CUTS HOURS FOR THOUSANDS MORE
The New York Post has a little fun needling clueless Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius about her recent claim “there is absolutely no evidence . . . that there is any job loss related to the Affordable Care Act” before reporting on the latest 33,000 jobs destroyed by the Affordable Car Act:
The Advanced Medical Technology Association surveyed its members to determine the number of lost jobs since the 2.3 percent excise tax on medical devices took effect in January 2013, raising about $3.8 billion a year to help pay for ObamaCare.
The survey found that nearly a third of respondents had cut research and development because of the tax, and almost 10 percent had moved manufacturing abroad.
The job losses were put at about 14,000, with another 19,000 openings that were left unfilled.
“During a time when there is bipartisan support for growing high-technology manufacturing jobs, these results should serve as a wake-up call,” said Stephen J. Ubl, president of the Advanced Medical Technology Association.

Acetaminophen During Pregnancy May Increase Child's Risk For ADHD
With very few options available to them while pregnant, women have been turning to acetaminophen options, like Tylenol, for years to relieve headaches, fever, and pain.
But a new study suggests that the drug may also be exposing unborn babies to an increased risk of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder – or ADHD.
Dr. Jeff Chapa, a Cleveland Clinic obstetrician, says: "The amount of acetaminophen increased the risk for development of ADHD."

NYC: More Black Babies Killed By Abortion Than Born
(CNSNews.com) – In 2012, there were more black babies killed by abortion (31,328) in New York City than were born there (24,758), and the black children killed comprised 42.4% of the total number of abortions in the Big Apple, according to a report by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
The report is entitled, Summary of Vital Statistics 2012 The City of New York, Pregnancy Outcomes, and was prepared by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Office of Vital Statistics. (See Pregnancy Outcomes NYC Health 2012.pdf)
Table 1 of the report presents the total number of live births, spontaneous terminations (miscarriages), and induced terminations (abortions) for women in different age brackets between 15 and 49 years of age. The table also breaks that data down by race – Hispanic, Asian and Pacific Islander, Non-Hispanic White, Non-Hispanic Black – and also by borough of residence: Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island.

FBI Agent: U.S. Has Evidence To Indict CAIR For Terror
The Justice Department has enough incriminating evidence to file terrorism charges against the Council on American-Islamic Relations and its founders but has chosen not to indict the Washington-based group and its leaders at this time, a veteran FBI agent reveals in a shocking new book.
“There is enough evidence to indict CAIR, but the government chose not to do so at this time,” said former FBI official John Guandolo, author of “Raising a Jihadi Generation: Understanding the Muslim Brotherhood Movement in America.”
He suggests the government balked at throwing the book at CAIR for political reasons.
CAIR has cultivated a number of political supporters, mainly among leading Democrats in Washington – including senior White House officials. Secret Service entry logs show CAIR officials have visited the White House several times during the Obama administration.

Teacher’s Union Fights To Keep Heroin Using Teacher On The Job At Elementary School
New York parents were outraged to hear that an elementary school teacherhad been shooting up heroin while on the job — and the teacher’s unionrepresenting him is thwarting efforts to reveal his identity.
A school employee found heroin and drug paraphernalia in the faculty lounge at Benjamin Cosor Elementary School on Fallsburg, N.Y., on two separate occasions, according to Fox News
When police narrowed the list of culprits, the teachers union refused to allow them to be drug tested. Of the eight the police were investigating, only one non-union employee submitted to testing.
A letter informing parents of the incident only disclosed that an “employee of the District found drugs and related paraphernalia in a school rest room.” It failed to mention that the drug was heroin, that it was found more than once and that it was discovered in the faculty lounge.

Murderer Who ‘Cut Up The Bodies Of His Girlfriend And Her Children While High On Crack’ May Walk Because Of Police Mistake
This goes to show how absurdly pro-defendant the legal system has been tilting for the last few decades. The trial of a man who brutally murdered his girlfriend and her kids is in jeopardy because the cops turned away defense attorneys as he confessed to the killings.
How outrageous is this?
Deputies used a variety of legal pretexts to claim they could keep Covington isolated without legal advice. They maintained he had not officially been arrested but had been ‘detained’, despite being handcuffed to a hospital bed, and that the constitutional guarantee of a defense attorney didn’t yet apply. Only after Covington confessed to the crimes – after being moved to an interrogation cell at the Sheriff’s Office – did deputies tell him that lawyers from the Public Defender’s Office had been trying to see him. Covington’s defense team is now arguing that law enforcement’s decision to sequester him from attorneys — going so far as to register him under a false name at a hospital — violated his constitutional rights, and that his confession should be tossed.
It’s a given that if this obviously guilty creep walks, groups like the ACLU will celebrate his release.

'Revenge Porn' Could Mean Jail Time In Md.
SILVER SPRING, Md. (WJLA) – Posting nude photos of your ex-girlfriend or boyfriend online may soon land you behind bars in the state of Maryland. House of Delegates are voting this week on whether to make "revenge porn" a crime. The bill may then head to the state senate.
“There was a lot of shame and embarrassment,” said victim Annmarie Chiarini. “I did not choose to have my sexuality broadcast."
She’s calling for change after a bitter breakup nearly destroyed her life when an ex-boyfriend auctioned off a CD of nude photos of her on eBay. The single mother of two and respected English professor in Maryland was humiliated.

Governor of Arizona Is Pressed to Veto Bill
PHOENIX — As the Arizona Legislature sent a bill to her desk Monday that would grant business owners the right to invoke religion to refuse service to gays and others, Gov. Jan Brewer, a Republican, faced pressure from many corners to veto the measure, which has cast unwanted national attention on Arizona.
Elected officials, civic leaders and business groups spoke out publicly against the measure, which passed both houses of the Legislature on Thursday.
On Twitter, Arizona’s United States senators, John McCain and Jeff Flake, also Republicans, had nearly identical posts, with both of them saying they hoped Ms. Brewer would veto the bill. An executive from Apple Inc., which plans to build a big manufacturing plant in Mesa, called Ms. Brewer to urge her to reject it, and W. Douglas Parker, chairman and chief executive of American Airlines, sent her a letter citing the state’s “economic comeback” and saying, “There is genuine concern throughout the business community that this bill, if signed into law, would jeopardize all that has been accomplished so far.”

Sen. Colburn Seeks Extension On Oyster Harvest Season
ANNAPOLIS – State Senator Richard F. Colburn (R-Eastern Shore) announced today that he has sent a letter to Department of Natural Resources Acting Secretary Joseph Gill requesting an extension of the current oyster harvest season. In a letter dated February 24, 2014, Senator Colburn stated, “I am writing to request your consideration of extending the current oyster harvesting season until April 30, 2014. Colder than average conditions this winter have lead to more snow and icing of the rivers and bays which have caused Maryland watermen to miss 45 days of the current season. It is my hope you will consider this extension to give these oyster harvesters the opportunity to make up for lost revenue and income during this time.”
The current oyster harvest season is set to close on March 31, 2014.

Obama’s Proposed IRS Rules To Limit Tax-Exempt Status Concern Liberals Too
The Obama administration’s proposed crackdown on tea party and other nonprofit groups that want to play a role in politics is quietly crumbling as opposition builds across the political spectrum to new IRS rules.
Almost all of the nearly 70,000 public comments submitted as of Monday night were vehemently opposed to the proposal, which would limit the ability of social welfare nonprofits — those organized under 501(c)(4) of the tax code — to even talk about candidates in the two months before an election.
Conservatives have been battling the Internal Revenue Service, with the Republican-controlled House planning votes this week to try to halt the rules. But opposition from the other side of the political spectrum also is growing as liberal groups take a deeper look at the rules and realize they would affect more than just tea party and high-dollar conservative organizations.

Yes, We Should Discuss The Clintons’ Past
When Kentucky Senator and Republican presidential aspirant Rand Paul re-surfaced the Monica Lewinsky scandal as relevant to Hillary Clinton’s presidential candidacy, fellow Republican Karl Rove immediately took him to task on national television.
“Frankly, Rand Paul spending a lot of time talking about the mistakes of Bill Clinton does not look like a big agenda for the future of the country,” said Rove.
Actually, it was Paul’s wife Kelley who first brought it up in a Vogue Magazine interview. Why should Republicans be accused of a “war on women” when Mrs. Clinton’s husband, former president Bill, chartered new territory in “predatory” sexual behavior, argued Mrs. Paul.
When Senator Paul was asked about this on Meet the Press, he made the same point.

Good News For Drug Traffickers
The Coast Guard slashed its operating costs by a quarter last year because of sequestration. It's the only U.S. military service that can arrest drug smugglershundreds of miles off the U.S. shore. It lost Naval support too.
The Navy decommissioned ships on drug missions in Latin America. It sent some of them elsewhere because of the increased emphasis on Asia. Coast Guard Adm. Robert Papp says U.S. interdictions fell 30 percent from the year before. He estimates that they tracked just one-third of the drug smuggling boats and planes that traveled the North-South corridor. He tells the defense industry in San Diego, the Coast Guard's resources are "woefully inadequate." The service's operating budget returns to 2012 levels this year.
Wood Stove Update
A federal proposal to clean up smoke from wood stoves has sparked a backlash from some rural residents and lawmakers. Manufacturers of wood stoves have also objected. The new rule would sharply reduce the amount of particulate new wood stoves produce. One company says no stove made today would meet the requirement.
Wood stoves are a staple in many rural areas. They are economical and make attractive centerpieces in many homes. States such as Washington and New York already have adopted stricter emission rules. Last fall, New York led a coalition of seven states in a federal lawsuit. Its goal was to compel the EPA to adopt new emission limits on wood-fired boilers that heat water.
BREAKING NEWS: Obama Asks Pentagon For 2014 Afghanistan Withdrawl
President Obama has asked the Pentagon to plan for a complete withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan by the end of the year, but left open the possibility that some troops could remain after 2014.

Twenty-Four Jewish, Latino And Black Veterans Will Receive The Army's Highest Honor Decades Late
President Barack Obama will bestow the Medal of Honor on them next month. The Pentagon named the soldiers after a 12-year review of discrimination in awards. Congress mandated the investigation in a 2002 law, specifically telling the Pentagon to examine prejudice against Latinos and Jews.
The investigation later expanded to include other minorities. Officials looked at the 6,500 recipients of the second highest honor, the Distinguished Service Cross, to identify those who were passed over for the Medal of Honor because of their race or ethnicity.
Many of the honorees have died. But among the survivors is a 68-year-old retired postal worker from San Antonio. Former Sgt. Santiago Erevia fought in Vietnam, as did former Sgt. Jose Rodela, also from Texas, and Melvin Morris, one of the first green berets. He retired from the Army in the 1980s as a sergeant first class.
One of the ones being honored post-humously is Pvt. First Class Leonard Kravitz, musician Lenny Kravitz' uncle.
Senators Object To Bill That Would Force Most Legislators To Commute
Sen. Allan Kittleman’s colleagues on a Senate committee were clearly unhappy with his legislation that would force most of them to commute and no longer reimburse their lodging in Annapolis during the session.
Kittleman, R-Howard and Carroll, has again introduced legislation that would restrict the housing stipend legislators are permitted during session – a maximum $101 per day – to those living more than 50 miles from Annapolis.
He also has proposed legislation to prohibit their use of hotel reward points from any Annapolis lodging.

Maureen Dowd: Obama's Benghazi Decisions 'Unworthy Of Greatest Power On Earth
The Obama administration's decisions during and after the deadly terror attack on the U.S. Embassy in Benghazi on Sept. 11, 2012, were "unworthy of the greatest power on earth," writes New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd, in a scathing Sunday column.
Dowd's opinion piece follows one a few weeks ago that declared Obama "still has not learned how to govern," and takes shots at the edits that were made to the Benghazi talking points.

Federal Lawsuit Claims For-Profit College Group Misled Students, Falsified Documents
We’ve heard horror stories about some for-profit colleges from students: the false promise of gainful employment after completing a short program at the cost of thousands of dollars. Now come claims from former employees about alleged fraud carried out by officials at a for-profit college group thanks to a federal lawsuit.
Seven former employees are part of a federal lawsuit accusing the Harris School and its parent company, Premier Education Group, of misleading students — who paid more than $10,000 a year for various programs — about career prospects, and falsifying records to enroll students and keep them enrolled in order to continue receiving government grant and loan dollars, The New York Times reports.

Americans Rising Up Against Government: Column
Three examples of pushback against the ruling class.
America's ruling class has been experiencing more pushback than usual lately. It just might be a harbinger of things to come.
First, in response to widespread protests last week, the Department of Homeland Security canceled plans to build a nationwide license plate database. Many local police departments already use license-plate readers that track every car as it passes traffic signals or pole-mounted cameras. Specially equipped police cars even track cars parked on the street or even in driveways.
The DHS put out a bid request for a system that would have gone national, letting the federal government track millions of people's comings and goings just as it tracks data about every phone call we make. But the proposal was suddenly withdrawnlast week, with the unconvincing explanation that it was all a mistake. I'm inclined to agree withTechDirt's Tim Cushing, who wrote: "The most plausible explanation is that someone up top at the DHS or ICE suddenly realized that publicly calling for bids on a nationwide surveillance system while nationwide surveillance systems are being hotly debated was ... a horrible idea."

FOREIGN VOTE-COUNT FIRM PARTNERS WITH BIG GOVERNMENT CONTRACTOR
Purchase of U.S. election-results company stirred controversy

The partnership could help safeguard the election programs of Scytl’s U.S. division.
In January 2012, Scytl acquired 100 percent of SOE Software, the leading software provider of election management solutions in the United States. The sale garnered national attention after it was spotlighted by the popular Drudge Report.

MARYLAND REQUESTS ESEA WAIVER EXTENSION FOR TEACHER-PRINCIPAL EVALUATIONS
MSDE Asking U.S. Department of Education for More Time to Implement New Initiatives Well
Annapolis, Md. (February 25, 2014) – Maryland is moving forward with new education initiatives to further strengthen teaching and learning statewide in the nation’s top school system – implementing higher standards, better assessments and new teacher and principal evaluation systems. To ensure these important new education initiatives are successful, the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) presented a plan to the State Board of Education today to request an extension of its implementation timeline from the U.S. Department of Education.
“Over the last seven years, we made the better choice to invest in Maryland’s top-ranked schools, and today, we continue our support of educators and children by giving them the time they need to get this transition right,“ said Governor O’Malley. “This waiver extension would allow Maryland to complete three important transitions – new standards, assessments and evaluations while being respectful of the demands on students, teachers and school leaders.”

Ted Cruz And The Lesson Of Dunkirk
In politics, as in war, you can’t afford to fight the battles you know you’ll lose.
Politics is often like war. Unfortunately, politicians, the media, and the voting public seldom have the same degree of realism and discipline with which professional soldiers fight wars. You can indulge your emotions and base your decisions on wishful thinking in politics in a way that you are not likely to when your own life is on the line in battle.
One of the most dramatic and heartening events of World War II was the miraculous evacuation of British troops trapped on the beaches of France in 1940, at Dunkirk. And its lesson is still relevant today.
The British troops were in France to help the French fight off the invading army from Nazi Germany. But the sudden collapse of the French army left the Brits stranded on the beaches, with the German army closing in on them.

Punitive Economics
The Democrats now seek only to punish.
Barack Obama is working overtime to secure his legacy — a legacy of debt. In his new budget proposal, the president is reneging on an earlier offer to slightly change the formula under which Social Security cost-of-living adjustments (COLA) are made, which would have shaved around a quarter-trillion dollars or so off the mounting national debt and added a few tens of billions in new spending to boot.
Which is to say, President Obama is working to secure a gigantic tax increase on your children.
Under current practice, Social Security benefits are raised in proportion to the Consumer Price Index; under the “chained CPI” model, they would still rise, albeit at a slower rate, one that arguably more accurately represents actual changes in the cost of living. (Chained CPI assumes some substitution on the part of consumers as prices change — e.g., if orange juice prices rise, people switch to grapefruit juice.) Even the AARP, which opposes COLA reform as doggedly as it opposes most sensible fiscal reforms, calculates that the change would amount to about $3 on every $1,000 in benefits Social Security recipients enjoy — a trivial amount of money for the individual but one that adds up overall: Changing to chained CPI would knock some $230 billion, possibly more, off the debt the country is expected to accrue in coming years.

More Youths Crossing U.S.-Mexico Border Alone
HARLINGEN, Texas — They come from Central America with slips of paper sewn into their pockets bearing names they are sometimes too young to spell. Parents send them with Bibles, rosaries and small wooden crosses in their backpacks.
The flood of undocumented immigrants has slowed compared to five years ago — likely due to tighter border enforcement and the economic downturn in the U.S. — but in its place is a new immigration surge even more confounding: children and teenagers traveling through the rugged border lands into south Texas, lured by the promise of safety. Up to 120 unaccompanied youths are arriving each day, officials say, a number that has tripled over the last five years and that by some estimates could soon reach 60,000 a year.
The southeastern edge of Texas has become the busiest border crossing in the country for these wandering youths, most of whom are adolescents, though some are as young as 5 or 6. Last year, U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents apprehended more than 21,000 minors traveling without families on a roughly 315-mile stretch of the Rio Grande that runs west from Harlingen to the south of Laredo. That was more than half the total of 38,833 detained nationwide.

Club For Growth Releases 2013 Scorecard
Senators Cruz (TX) and Lee (UT) receive perfect scores in 2013; Nine Current Senators Named “Defenders of Economic Freedom”
Washington, DC – Today, the Club for Growth released its 2013 Congressional Scorecard, which ranks the voting behavior of members of Congress based on issues relating to limited government and economic growth.
To view the Club for Growth's 2013 Congressional Scorecard and all prior Scorecards, click here, or go to: www.ClubForGrowth.org/Projects
“2013 saw the emergence of several new defenders of economic freedom as well as continued excellence among old allies,” said Club for Growth President Chris Chocola. “Some members have seen their voting records improve and will be honored this year with recognition of their efforts for the first time. While there are more champions of pro-economic growth policy serving in Congress than at any time before, it’s clear that our fight against the big spenders in both parties has a long way to go.”
This year, 31 members of Congress will receive the Club for Growth’s Defender of Economic Freedom Award. Starting in 2011, The Club for Growth required Representatives and Senators to not only score 90 or better on votes cast in a year, but to also have a lifetime score or “LifeScore” of at least 90.
GOVERNOR ANNOUNCES $20 MILLION IN COLD WEATHER ENERGY BILL ASSISTANCE
Assistance Will Help Low-Income Consumers with Higher Than Normal Energy Bills
Annapolis, Md. — Governor Martin O’Malley announced the release of an additional $20 million to help lower-income Marylanders pay high utility bills resulting from recent extreme winter weather.
Working together, the Maryland Energy Administration (MEA), the Department of Human Resources (DHR) and the Public Service Commission (PSC) will administer the benefit. The $20 million in supplemental benefits will be made available to all income eligible households who apply for the Electric Universal Service Program in FY2014.
“Families should not have to choose between staying warm and providing for their families,” said Governor O’Malley. “The efforts we are announcing today will help over 100,000 lower-income Marylanders stay warm and safe during this unusually cold winter.”

The Myth Of ‘Settled Science’
Computer models of climate change have been dead wrong, yet alarmists aim to quell debate.
I repeat: I’m not a global-warming believer. I’m not a global-warming denier. I’ve long believed that it cannot be good for humanity to be spewing tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. I also believe that those scientists who pretend to know exactly what this will cause in 20, 30, or 50 years are white-coated propagandists.
“The debate is settled,” asserted propagandist-in-chief Barack Obama in his latest State of the Union address. “Climate change is a fact.” Really? There is nothing more anti-scientific than the very idea that science is settled, static, impervious to challenge. Take a non-climate example. It was long assumed that mammograms help reduce breast cancer deaths. This fact was so settled that Obamacare requires every insurance plan to offer mammograms (for free, no less).
Now we learn from a massive randomized study — 90,000 women followed for 25 years — that mammograms may have no effect on breast-cancer deaths. Indeed, one out of five of those diagnosed by mammogram receives unnecessary radiation, chemo, or surgery.

Keep citizens from holding their public officials accountable
Silence citizens and chill the very purpose of grassroots groups

‘It’s a sad day in the history of the Senate,” Mitch McConnell bitterly announced. The minority leader wanted Americans to know, or at least to believe, that Republicans were outraged by what he called the Democratic majority’s “power grab” — detonation of the so-called nuclear option, exploding the minority’s ability to block presidential nominees.
In truth, the GOP had not done much of anything to oppose Obama picks. Eric Holder, to take just one example, was confirmed by a whopping 75–21 margin — with 19 Republican yeas — despite the Mark Rich scandal, the FALN terrorist pardons, and a history of misleading Congress. The GOP similarly rolled over for one after another of the radical lefties now serving as ministers of Obama’s imperial presidency on the bench and throughout the bureaucracy.
Indeed, in positing their case to preserve the filibuster, Republicans argued that they had approved fully 99 percent of the president’s judicial nominees. How telling that they should see this as a point in their favor. The filibuster was crucial, they inveighed, because it acts as a brake against radical transformation by a slim but zealous majority. Its 60-vote supermajority hurdle enables the minority to force the majority to act responsibly, to push only nominees and policies that enjoy consensus public support. And here, the GOP said, is the clincher: 99 percent of the time, Obama could rest assured that Republicans would not use it.

Rascovar: Is O’Malley’s Presidential Bid For Real?
Yes, Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley is running for president, but his target isn’t 2016. It’s 2024.
O’Malley’s evolving presidential bid amounts to preliminary maneuvering aimed at securing his future in the next Democratic administration.
Running for president between now and 2016 makes sense if you’re O’Malley. It’s the best way to impress Hillary Clinton and position himself so he gets a high-visibility job in her government.
Look at the situation from O’Malley’s perspective. He loves life as an elected official. He excels at full-time campaigning. He’s shown himself to be an effective government executive.
