Mom accused of poisoning 2 kids to get back at cheating husband

A city schoolteacher, convinced her cop husband had cheated on her, allegedly murdered their two kids — poisoning them, then sealing their Bronx apartment’s windows with plastic before turning on the gas, sources told The Post yesterday.
Lissette Bamenga, 29 — who slit her wrists in a suicide attempt during the Thursday horror — believed Officer Trevor Noel had gotten another woman pregnant, and she allegedly wanted to punish him by killing 5-year-old Trevor Jr. and Liliane, who was just 4 months old, the sources said.

The children were declared dead at the scene. Bamenga was rushed to Jacobi Hospital, where she remained in stable condition.“You got what you wanted,” she allegedly wrote in one of two suicide notes. “Me and the kids are in a better place now.”

Muslims: 'Wipe Christianity From Face of Earth'

A Muslim group has released its plan to “wipe Christianity from the face of the earth,” Islamize the West and establish an Islamic system of world government – placing those who resist “under a police state.”

The 23-page booklet, “The Global Islamic Civilization: The Power of a Nation Revived,” is the brainchild of the United Muslim Nations International, a group led by Sheik Farook al-Mohammedi. The document outlines a plan for Muslim world domination and the re-establishment of the Caliphate.

Al-Mohammedi leaves no doubt about his view of Christianity.

Romney Victory Effort Raises $106.1 Million In June

Today, Romney for President, Romney Victory, and the Republican National Committee announced fundraising totals of $106.1 million in June. The campaign and RNC have approximately $160 million cash on hand.

Announcing the numbers, Romney Victory National Finance Chairman Spencer Zwick said, “This month’s fundraising is a statement from voters that they want a change of direction in Washington. Voters of all stripes – Republicans, Independents, and Democrats – have made it clear that President Obama has not lived up to the promises of his last campaign. Mitt Romney’s message of restoring economic security and rebuilding our middle class is clearly resonating across the country. In the months to come, these resources will be crucial to highlighting the difference between President Obama’s broken promises and Mitt Romney’s plan to get America on the right track again.”

Obama Poised for New Fight With G.O.P. Over Tax Cuts

With a torpid job market and a fragile economy threatening his re-election chances, President Obama is changing the subject to tax fairness, calling for a one-year extension of the Bush-era tax cuts for people making less than $250,000.

Mr. Obama plans to make his announcement in the Rose Garden on Monday, senior administration officials said. The ceremony comes as Congress returns from its Independence Day recess, and as both parties and their presidential candidates head into the rest of the summer trying to seize the upper hand in a campaign that has been closely matched and stubbornly static.

Though the United Nations has no authority to enforce global taxes at the current time, its propositions hold sway and are not unlike schemes proposed by American politicians.

Iran Named to Group Overseeing U.N. Arms Treaty Conference; ‘Like Choosing Bernie Madoff to Police Fraud’

Iran has been chosen as a member of the “bureau” overseeing a month-long United Nations conference in New York aimed at finalizing a controversial global “arms trade treaty.”

The move, which came as the conference got underway last week but received virtually no attention, is the latest example of Iran taking up leadership positions at the United Nations despite its defiance of Security

Council resolutions relating to its nuclear program.
Furthermore, according to an expert panel monitoring U.N. sanctions on Iran, Tehran continues to flout a Security Council ban on exporting its weaponry, with Syria the main recipient.

Mexico’s defense secretariat says the tunnel linked a soon-to-be-opened ice and purified water business in San Luis Rio Colorado, Sonora to a business in San Luis, Arizona.

Feds: Airlines Must Let Passengers Fly With Pigs for 'Emotional Support'

Obama's 'Missing Year' at Columbia Found?

Two separate database reports from the National Student Clearinghouse last year that contradicted President Obama’s claim he attended Columbia University for two years added to the intrigue generated by Obama’s unwillingness to discuss his time at the Ivy League institution, his block on the release of educational records, and the many political science students and faculty there in the early 1980s who say they don’t remember him.

Swirling amid the black hole of information are a host of theories about Obama’s whereabouts – particularly during the 1981-1982 school year – including speculation he was working for the CIA in Pakistan.

Black Mobs Terrorize 1 of 'Whitest Big Cities'

Seattle has “fewer problems with racism than other cities,” said the blog So Seattle. “Ethnic tensions … seem less tangible.”

While Seattle may not have the day-in, day-out racial violence of a Chicago, or the peculiar racial lawlessness of small-town Peoria, more and more, people are paying attention to the increasingly visible and brutish mayhem black mobs are visiting on their victims.

Jeremiah Wright: America‘s Elite Colleges Infect Black People’s Brains With ‘White Racist DNA’

It wasn’t your typical Sunday sermon, but then again, Jeremiah Wright isn’t exactly your typical reverend.

Speaking just miles from the White House at the 100th anniversary of Washington, D.C.’s Florida Avenue Baptist Church on Sunday, Rev. Wright accused some of America‘s most prestigious academic institutions of infecting black people’s brains with “white racist DNA,” POLITICO reports.

He started by using the Book of Isaiah and its message of the value of foundational stones as a metaphor, imploring parishioners to teach their children the real African-American history and not the one taught by “our enemies” who “distorts our history, disses our history.” He then reportedly rattled off a list of some of the most important black figures in all of history, including Nat Turner, Emmett Till, Rosa Parks, Paul Robeson, Zora Neale Hurston and others and said their stories must be passed on.

Why Conservatives Are Happier Than Liberals

WHO is happier about life — liberals or conservatives? The answer might seem straightforward. After all, there is an entire academic literature in the social sciences dedicated to showing conservatives as naturally authoritarian, dogmatic, intolerant of ambiguity, fearful of threat and loss, low in self-esteem and uncomfortable with complex modes of thinking. And it was the candidate Barack Obama in 2008 who infamously labeled blue-collar voters “bitter,” as they “cling to guns or religion.” Obviously, liberals must be happier, right?

Wrong. Scholars on both the left and right have studied this question extensively, and have reached a consensus that it is conservatives who possess the happiness edge. Many data sets show this. For example, the Pew Research Center in 2006 reported that conservative Republicans were 68 percent more likely than liberal Democrats to say they were “very happy” about their lives. This pattern has persisted for decades. The question isn’t whether this is true, but why.

Many conservatives favor an explanation focusing on lifestyle differences, such as marriage and faith. They note that most conservatives are married; most liberals are not. (The percentages are 53 percent to 33 percent, according to my calculations using data from the 2004 General Social Survey, and almost none of the gap is due to the fact that liberals tend to be younger than conservatives.) Marriage and happiness go together. If two people are demographically the same but one is married and the other is not, the married person will be 18 percentage points more likely to say he or she is very happy than the unmarried person.

Postal Disservice

A GROUP OF concerned citizens paid us a high compliment the other day — by showing up to picket outside our doors. Nice to know our words are provocative enough to protest. Community and Postal Workers United was calling attention to what its members consider consider our unduly stringent view of the need for the Postal Service to restructure, especially by reining in the labor costs that account for 80 percent of its overhead.

In particular, the protesters repeated the oft-made argument that the Postal Service would be just fine, financially, if only Congress would relieve it of an annual $5.5 billion retiree health fund pre-payment. This deserves a respectful reply that fortunately can be brief. Postal Service data clearly show that the agency would still lose several billion dollars per year over the next half decade even without the pre-payment.

Police: Hug Triggers Officer's Gun, Kills Woman

The shooting happened at an outdoor social gathering about 12:30 a.m., said police Sgt. Eren Stephens. It happened on the city's west side.

According to Stephens, the woman "embraced the officer from behind, causing the holstered weapon to accidently discharge." The bullet punctured Miller's lung and hit her heart, and she died at a hospital.

If America Were A Corporation, Would You Let This President Keep His Job?

Suppose in this bad economy you were trying to keep your highly visible job as president of a nationwide organization and this is what the public and press knew about you:

• The Supreme Court has just ruled that your principal product and service to be unconstitutional as you portrayed it. But you were allowed to force the public to buy it and pay for it thanks to a legal argument that acknowledges your acts of misrepresentation and false advertising.

• Unemployment among the users of your products, services and policies is at the highest level in modern history of any president in your position who was lucky enough to win a second term. And that joblessness is particularly high for members of minority groups and young people.

• By the end of next year, the debt you accumulated since you took office is projected to exceed the amount of 43 of your predecessors.

• Your organization’s credit rating has been downgraded an historic two times (by Standard & Poor’s and Egan Jones). These agencies are concerned that your debt load is “unsustainable” and that your economic policies are not stable, predictable or effective.

A Personal Invitation To Greg Basset

Dear Mr. Bassett,

I read your editorial this morning on Downtown Salisbury. I also notice one headline mentioning someone CONSIDERING a run for City Council in Ocean City.

First of all, I think it's pretty clear by now that I too intend to run for Mayor in Salisbury, yet you have ignored my intent completely.

That being said, I'd like to personally invite you to come visit me at 300 W. Main Street to discuss my own vision of Downtown Salisbury.

Just because we have our differences doesn't mean these ideas won't make the Downtown area a better place to live and enjoy.

Not long ago you promised your readers that you would be more fair and balanced. In fact, you insisted this would be the case from here on out. Mr. Bassett, are you a liar? Are you a man who will say anything just to save your hide?

I'll add Mr. Bassett, allow me to educate you just a little bit more. While I do have a proposal for revitalizing Downtown Salisbury, it is simply that, a proposal. Mayor Ireton presented HIS proposal to the Council and they turned it down. There's nothing saying the City Council won't turn mine down as well. The Mayor's job is to bring such IDEAS to the Council for their consideration.

Should I be so honored to become the next Mayor of Salisbury I would respect the Council's position on such matters. I will NOT reach out to the public and encourage such hate or belittle the very people the MAJORITY of citizens elected.

Mayor Ireton's petition drive will fail for numerous reasons. Most citizens who voted for him voted for a very different kind of man. What they have received is NOT what they expected, so his small amount of followers will not be enough support to change the minds of the Council majority.

Your attempt to sway the public through your newspaper WITHOUT being fair and balanced is why YOU are sinking in sales. Many want to point the finger at Joe Albero or Salisbury News for your major drop in circulation but in reality all we have done is open the minds of those people willing to at least view each topic the way the citizens actually see it.

IF the Daily Times wants to make the attempt to actually prove you are fair and balanced you'll take the time to express OTHER points of view. What your newspaper has done to me recently with employees allegedly breaking every rule in your so called ethics book not only makes me sick to my stomach, it put YOU in the position in which YOU should be held accountable. When YOU came out with a list of things you'd be following to prove to your readers you would in fact prove to be better and now you refuse to be balanced, your paper deserves to get shut down.

You may not like me personally as a competitor but as a possible candidate for Mayor with a very strong chance of actually winning, YOU should take more time to put those differences aside to PROVE the Daily Times actually gives a darn about Salisbury.

Then again, we have seen the kind of hissy fits the former and current Mayor are capable of and quite frankly your scared. Don't worry Mr. Bassett, I'm not a violent man. Either show you are a man of your word or shut down that newspaper. You know how to reach me if you'd like to discuss my visions.

Is Union Busting To Blame For Power Outages In DC?

On Thursday, 15,091 Washington, D.C.-area residents were without power for the sixth day in a row, according to utility company Pepco spokesman Marcus Beal. As D.C. residents face record heat waves, many are upset and attribute the lack of power to incompetence on Pepco's end. However, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1900 members claim the failure to restore power outages is due to chronic understaffing and Pepco's shift from hiring union utility workers to non-union temporary contractors.

"We have half the linemen we had 15 years ago," says IBEW Local 1900 Business Agent Jim Griffin, whose union represents 1,150 Pepco workers. "We have been complaining for a very long time. They have relied for a long time on contractors. They are transients, they don't know our system, and we typically have to go behind them to fix their mistakes. It's very frustrating. We take ownership in our work, we make careers out of this."

All Bills Lead to Jobs in Latest Spin in Congress

Tax bills, road projects, agriculture spending — they’ve all become “jobs” bills.

In the 18 months since the 112th Congress first met, about 90 bills that promise to create or preserve jobs have been introduced — about three times the previous two-year congressional cycle and seven times more than the Congress before that.

Nonprofit Groups Shield Millions In Political Gifts From Big Business

Other corporations, including Prudential Financial, Dow Chemical and the drugmaker Merck, have poured millions of dollars more into the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, a tax-exempt trade group that has pledged to spend at least $50 million on political advertising this election cycle.

Analysis: Congress’ Power To Tax Still A Contentious Issue

Chief Justice John Roberts’ opinion that the penalty for not buying health insurance in the Affordable Care Act is a tax helped spike a revival of the old chestnut: “The power to tax is the power to destroy.” It was also a reminder that the power of Congress to directly tax the citizenry was one of the most hotly debated provisions of the new Constitution as the states considered whether to ratify it back in 1787 and 1788.

Who’s Bailing on Obama? Just About Everybody

Today, let’s look at the polls — all of them. To start with, health care: Just 6 percent of Americans think health care is the most pressing issue, according to the latest Gallup poll. Why? Because lots of those Americans don’t have jobs or are underemployed — the real jobless rate nationwide is more like 14.9 percent, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday.

So savoring his big win on health care is most definitely a waste of time for President Obama, and he knows it. After less than a week of spiking the football (a relatively short time for America’s most narcissistic president ever), the president is back on the campaign trail. What’s striking is where he’s going: Pennsylvania, Ohio, Iowa — places he won in 2008.

Why? Simple. All the latest polls show he’s losing … well, everyone. He’s down 13 points with voters ages 18 to 25, nearly half of whom think he’s done a mediocre job, according to Students for Life of America. The healthy young don’t really care about health care, but they do care about jobs — and nearly 2 million 20- to 24-year-olds are unemployed.

Question For Mr Albero

On the on line petition currently bombing (not real news I know) I would like to see what names are on it. I ask because at one time in a fly by conversation ireton (not worth a capital) said thanks for signing my petition. I have not signed anything he has ever circulated about, I get his emails but I like a great deal of people don't follow his ADHD led mind set.

To cut this short is the list public?

Thanks and I hope you and those around you are comfortable and well in the heat.

Publishers Notes: Sir, While I do have a Facebook Page, I rarely ever go to it. Perhaps someone who follows Facebook more often can answer that question for you in comments.

A U.S. Airways flight got stuck in the tarmac at Reagan National airport Friday.

The intense heat of the day apparently softened the asphalt enough that the wheels sank into it.

The 35 passengers and three crew members on board had to get off so a tow vehicle could budge the jet out of its rut.

SOMERSET CO. MAN TAKES HIS LIFE AFTER POLICE PURSUIT

(PRINCESS ANNE, MD) – A driver who refused to stop for police took his life and a Maryland state trooper was injured after his car was rammed by that driver during a pursuit last night in Somerset County.

The driver is identified as Alvin D. Melvin, 45, of the 12000-block of Somerset Avenue, Princess Anne, Md. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His body has been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy.

The injured trooper is identified as Trooper First Class D. Tebbins, a K-9 trooper assigned to the Princess Anne Barrack. TFC Tebbins was transported to the Peninsula Regional Medical Center where he was treated and later released. His dog was taken to an emergency veterinarian center as a precaution, where he was treated and released.

At about 8:30 p.m. yesterday, a Maryland state trooper assigned to the Princess Anne Barrack was patrolling in an unmarked patrol car on West Post Office Road near Beechwood Street in Princess Anne, when he saw a 1998 Ford car in which the passenger was not wearing a seat belt. The trooper activated his emergency equipment and attempted to stop the car but the driver, later identified as Melvin, refused to stop and accelerated away.

A pursuit began which traveled through Princess Anne. TFC Tebbins was in the area and joined the pursuit, as did two patrol cars from the Princess Anne Police Department. The pursuit continued onto northbound Rt. 13 and TFC Tebbins, who was driving a marked patrol car, assumed the lead car position among the pursuing police officers.

TFC Tebbins was traveling in the fast lane of Rt. 13 and Melvin was in the slow lane when the trooper attempted to pull alongside Melvin’s car. The investigation indicates Melvin then swerved his car into the patrol car, causing TFC Tebbins to lose control. The patrol car traveled into the median, struck several trees, overturned and immediately caught fire. A Princess Anne police officer immediately stopped and assisted TFC Tebbins and his dog out of the burning patrol car.

After ramming the police car, Melvin apparently lost control of his car and crashed into a ditch on the slow shoulder of Rt. 13, south of Loretto Road. A trooper and Princess Anne officers stopped behind the car and implemented felony stop procedures, which include staying at their cars while giving verbal commands to the occupants of the suspect vehicle.

The passenger immediately got out of the car and complied with police directions. The driver, Melvin, failed to exit the car and did not comply with directions from police. While they continued to give commands to the driver, police heard what sounded like a gunshot from Melvin’s vehicle. Police could then see Melvin no longer appeared to be moving.

Police approached the car and saw Melvin had sustained what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head. A .40 caliber pistol was in his lap. Emergency care was provided and EMS units were summoned. Melvin was pronounced dead at the scene.

The car Melvin was driving is registered to his wife. A search of the vehicle will be conducted after a search warrant is obtained. The gun he had is not reported stolen and investigators are researching its origin.

The passenger in Melvin’s car is a 16-year-old male from the county. He was not charged and was released to the custody of his parents.

A motive for Melvin’s actions is not known at this time. The investigation by the State Police Princess Anne Barrack Criminal Investigation Section is continuing. A member of the Somerset County State’s Attorney’s Office responded to the scene and has been kept updated on the investigation.
