Cops Use Stun Gun Twice On Unarmed Amputee
Man in wheelchair was handcuffed, left on sidewalk with his pants down
MERCED, Calif. - A California man whose legs are amputated says police used a stun gun on him twice and violently manhandled him even though he was unarmed.
Internal affairs investigators say they're looking into the complaint by 40-year-old Gregory Williams, who was arrested Sept. 11 on suspicion of domestic violence and resisting arrest.
Williams and witnesses say officers tasered the wheelchair-bound man twice, then left him handcuffed with his pants down on the sidewalk in broad daylight. Williams spent six days in jail before prosecutors said they lacked evidence to charge him.

Cowboyz Officially For Sale Now & Closed For The Season
Nevertheless, while many were sending in comments calling me a liar, (mostly employees) I was right and each and every one of you were wrong!
Nevertheless, here's what it NOW says on their Website.
Cowboyz is officially closed for the 2009 Season.
"Due to unfortunate circumstances Cowboyz is closed indefinitely and we are currently reviewing offers for sale of the business and its contents. Cowboyz is a beautifully maintained restaurant which took two years to build and transform it from a dilapidated run down shell to its current state which is one of the most impressive venues on the eastern shore. Cowboyz did however have an agreement to reopen this Saturday 9/19/09 from the Worcester County Health Department and a re-inspection was set up. The issue as to why this meeting did not happen is debatable but suffice it to say it did not take place. Any previous violations noted by the Health Dept were corrected within hours, sometimes minutes of the second Health Inspection. We were at first told that the business could not be reopened without an administrative hearing but later were told that in fact we could reopen."
What the OWNER failed to mention was his additional LIQUOR VIOLATIONS and the hearings set up for this week. He didn't have a Liquor License to re-open, screw the Health Department issues. The image below is one of the close employees from Cowboyz who has since removed her Website as well. It's been reported that this young lady recently turned 21 and is allegedly engaged to the Owner of Cowboyz. It was also reported that this individual was seen in one of the videos drinking alcohol allegedly at the establishment BEFORE she turned 21.

Do You Think Salisbury Needs A New Police Chief?
With the recent announcement of Salisbury being the 2nd Most Dangerous City In America for violent crime, clearly things are getting worse. We listened to Mr. Mark McIver and Debbie Campbell on the Bill Reddish Show this morning where Mark stated that next year will more than likely be even worse. Could we be #1 next year? A simple yes or no answer to this survey would be fine.
NPS Assateague Island Sika Deer Eradication
There will be public input meetings for 3 nights, starting TONIGHT. Our Federal gov has now determent that the Sika deer is a resource THEY now want to do away with. They claim because it's not native, well neither are the horses! They claim because the Sika are destroying other resources...are they eating to many greenbriars? myrtle bushes maybe? They want to protect resources yet want ideas how to get more visitors on the island at one time {can ya feel a new bridge coming? or maybe some more parking lots?} How many of those parking lots or bath houses or boardwalks are NATIVE RESOURCES? They say they want public input but this is the first notice I've seen {the day of the meeting}. Coincidence they don't tell you what building and room # at Wor Wic? It's in the student center room 302, you have to go through special channels to find that out. Why is it a new, "not from here" superintendent thinks its OK to destroy a locally loved recourse for several generations that also brings in alot of off season income to many local businesses in the off season. If you Cherish this resource, the Sika deer, this will be your ONLY chance to discourage the governments take over of your resource, your tradition, your heritage, your treasure....your passion.

MOLLY HATCHET: "NEVER FORGET WHERE YOU CAME FROM"
Molly Hatchet experienced a Roller Coaster Ride last weekend expecting to play an outdoor biker concert at Cowboyz in Ocean City that turned out to be a complete flop.
The manager of Molly Hatchet, Steve Green, contacted me last Friday asking me if I was aware of what was going on and when I actually filled him in on the truth, well, let's just say without seeing his face you could tell his jaw dropped almost to the floor.
Steve knew things might be difficult working with Johnnie Brooks as his first deposit check actually bounced but he eventually made good on the money, so they were cool. After numerous calls they were finally able to get their 50% deposit but after the Band arrived in Maryland they had received a call that Cowborz had been completely shut down.
Steve contacted Bobby Ingrum, (leader of Molly Hatchet) and told them to pull over in Annapolis and get a Hotel Room. Johnnie Brooks tried convincing Steve Green that they would be open the next day but after his call to me they knew the gig was done and over. Working with a local Radio Station they made arrangements to at least come to Salisbury and play at Break Time Billiards and quite frankly the place was packed.
Because the entire Band didn't want to let down any fans, they played for a smaller crowd and invited me to come join them on this journey, in which I accepted and to this day will never regret. I met each Band Member and spoke with them individually and their whole intent was to satisfy anyone and every one who wanted to see them play.
So my hat is tipped to Molly Hatchet for "Never Forgetting Where They Came From" and swallowed the pride to play for a smaller venue. After they played, each Member sat down with fans and signed albums, tee shirts and even enjoyed one fan who brought a photo album and presented it to Bobby Ingrum. That was pretty cool!
Anyhow, thank you Steve Green, Bobby Ingrum and the rest of the Molly Hatchet Band for inviting me to join you that evening and showing me you've still got it, you can still drive a crowd absolutely nuts with pleasure and in this case you were put through so much you lived up to my favorite song, "Flirting With Disaster" in Ocean City and turned it into a very pleasurable evening.
By the way, the Band left Salisbury that evening and headed off to Champaign Il. for another sold out concert where Molly Hatchet headlined the show and hopefully got fulfilled with a little more pleasure than working out of such a small club.
To my friend Pat at Break Time Billiards, thanks for bringing them to Salisbury. Always Great Food and Great Times at Break Time Billiards!
SIDE FX TO UNVEIL NEW SONGS FOR A ONE TIME SPECIAL PERFORMANCE AT MURPHY’S PUB
The band Side FX featuring Kim Cameron will be making a special one time appearance at Murphy’s Pub on September 25th 2009. The band will unveil new songs from their upcoming CD Turning Point. Kim and the band have been in the studio finishing up songs for the new cd and decided to give some local fans a treat by giving them a first listen to the new material. Cameron states, “Our schedule finally opened up to perform at one of our favorite Southern Maryland pubs. There is something about the fans, and Murphy’s that always makes me smile…maybe because they are some of the most caring people who truly love music. I love introducing new material to them because, believe it or not, they are very hip to new sounds.”
The band which formed in 2007 quickly climbed through barriers that most bands take years to accomplish. Their video Simple Touch which features actor Brandon Ruckdashel, recently jumped from a few hundred to thousands of views on youtube. “Contradictions” their debut cd, received spins on hundreds of radio stations along with numerous appearances on TV and radio stations. With over 200,000 matches on Google, the band has created a large underground following that they plan to take to the next level beginning in January with the launch of their tour. The band is planning on a multiple city tour to support their soon to be released CD “Turning Point”. “Last January when we were at Murphy’s, we had just released the first album – it’s seems only appropriate that we play some of the unreleased material off of our newest album ‘Turning Point’ at the same place. If they like it – I know everyone else will.” says Kim
Side FX will perform at 9:00PM on September 25th. Admission is free. To find out more information on Side FX and Kim Cameron you can visit www.sidefxband.net and www.kimcameronmusic.com. Murphy’s Pub is located at 6971 Indian Head Hwy, Bryan's Road, MD. Kim Cameron and the Side FX band offer an eclectic blend of pop, rock and jazz into a smooth, groovy listening experience.

SHOULD WICOMICO COUNTY AND SALISBURY FUND PAC 14 RATHER THAN ROADS AND ESSENTIAL SERVICES?
And they are asking that the City of Salisbury also make a similar “memorandum of understanding” that would include the obligation to provide a large subsidy to PAC 14 for five years. During that period, substantial funding for PAC 14 would be included automatically in the County’s and the City’s budget, even if the current fiscal problems and structural deficit continue so that funding for roads, public safety, etc., must be cut even more than they have been, which seems likely to occur.
At a recent work session of the Salisbury City Council, the usual majority of three (Smith Comegys and Shields) appeared to favor doing the PAC 14 deal.
So far, Rick Pollitt and Jim Ireton seem to be silent on the subject, but there is cause for concern. Besides his affiliation with Pollitt, “Dr. Phil” also has influence with Ireton, who has been closely involved with another PAC 14 proponent, Michael Pretl.
Do you support the special deal that PAC 14 has requested? Please make a comment.
No Child Left Behind Strikes Again
Obama Open To Newspaper Bailout Bill
The president said he is "happy to look at" bills before Congress that would give struggling news organizations tax breaks if they were to restructure as nonprofit businesses."
I haven't seen detailed proposals yet, but I'll be happy to look at them," Obama told the editors of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Toledo Blade in an interview.
Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) has introduced S. 673, the so-called "Newspaper Revitalization Act," that would give outlets tax deals if they were to restructure as 501(c)(3) corporations. That bill has so far attracted one cosponsor, Cardin's Maryland colleague Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D).

Cowboyz Website
Joe had questioned my motives, which he has never done before. He felt I had tried to sabotage his reputable sources and truths about Cowboyz Saloon. Joe even asked if I knew the owner or any of his employees (which I don't). As a Berlin resident and an Ocean City business owner, I do NOT know the owner, nor have I EVER been in his establishment. A few emails were thrown to Joe, one in particular stating that a formal apology should be posted due to false information (on the blog) due to what I had posted. For the record, there has been no 'false information' posted on this blog regarding Cowboyz Saloon
Yes, I do need to post a formal apology, to JOE and to THE READERS for NOT COMMENTING ON MY ON POST!!!! I posted this garbage that Cowboyz Saloon has on their website so Joe's readers can see how much their story keeps changing. I assumed the Joe's readers would see through the mountain of lies and stick up for Joe, which many of you have done, but there was a few in the bunch that want to see nothing more than to see Joe and his blog go down in flames.
According the Cowboyz, first it was a "a dangerous gas leak" and would reopen at 4 p.m. today(Friday), according to their website and answering machine (which has been confirmed UNtrue by various sources including the property manager). Then it changed....phone message Cowboyz was closed and the Web site notice stated "Cowboyz has been temporarily closed to bureaucracy beyond our control. More info soon." Fact is, the saloon is still closed.
So, here's their comment on their website again, BUT this time I will be commenting BEFORE posting. I have made their website posting in red, and I have commented in black:
Due to unfortunate circumstances Cowboyz will be closed until further notice. All listed violations noted by the Health Dept were corrected within hours, sometimes minutes of the Health Inspection. We respect the county’s decision not to re-inspect the premises in an expedited manner although this is common practice to do so in most of these cases especially on big weekends in OC. This fact is common knowledge in foodservice.
Health inspections are public record and if you choose to look it up you will see that many establishments in Ocean City have similar and in multiple cases much worse violations yet they remain open for business. (with the same violations as yours? Compare apples to apples.) However it is solely at the discretion of the County officials to delay the closure of the premises until proper bureaucratic “protocol” is observed in this case. (Why are you worried about everyone else's violations rather than your own?)
In respect to the news coverage of the story there has only been one side portrayed. (You should have called Joe or commented if you're talking about his blog.) Anyone who was there knows that this was a planned closing and even if it was the most immaculate kitchen in the world it would have been shuttered because that’s what the higher ups wanted to happen. (WOW, Really? A planned closing? Anyone who was there knew it?...did you? What 'higher ups' are you talking about? Names of such 'higher ups'?)Cowboyz did not have a “Dirty” kitchen. We never once operated without hot water which would frankly be impossible. On the morning in question the pilot light on the hot water heater had gone out as it does every now and then. When the health inspector notified us of this fact we simply lit the pilot and corrected the problem within 15 minutes. We were not open yet and there were no employees in the kitchen yet so no one could possibly be aware that the pilot went out. (OK. I can understand that. . . but the question is was there no hot water during both visits from the health inspector, or just the 'planned closing' visit?) In respect to storing meat at 63 degrees there was a faulty cooler which had just been serviced. There were only two items in this entire cooler. We were told by the service company that is was holding at 45 degrees and it has continued to hold at 45 degrees since the day of the inspection. There were no witnesses to the measuring of temperature so we will have to take their word as to the temperature. (You just said a few sentences ago that everyone that was there knew it was a planned closing, so there should have been someone there to witness a temperature check of meat.) When the kitchen staff arrived they discarded the burgers and beef shavings voluntarily and immediately called the service company to look at the cooler. Every other cooler and freezer in the entire restaurant was holding at correct temperature as well. As for the dirty floor issue. Cowboyz was open for business the night before. Cowboyz has a cleaning service which arrives daily approximately one hour before opening and mops and sweeps all floors and cleans both bathrooms including checking the hand soap and hand towels as well as toilet paper holders. (Didn't you just state that the kitchen is not a 'dirty' kitchen a few sentences ago? Does this cleaning service clean the kitchen as well? You said they mop and clean all floors.) The service was not able to do this on the day in question as the health inspector was already making his evaluation and would not let management comment on the inspection which is defiantly not the norm. (Were you there to comment? Did you tell the inspector about your cleaning service that comes? Did you show receipts of the cooler in question just being serviced?) The food listed on the report as being stored in unapproved containers was a 1 LB bag of flour bought at Food Lion which was still in the food lion bag on the shelf. Cowboyz is an open air restaurant and anyone who lives in Ocean City has dealt with fruit flies at this time of year. (Yes, everyone, no matter how clean, has fruit flies this time of year. I know what I do in my home and business, but I don't know what restaurants do to get them out of the kitchen.) The entire bar is cleaned at the end and beginning of every day with 50 ppm bleach solution. (You just said the hired cleaning crew comes one hour prior to opening....so your barkeep cleans with bleach after closing and before opening, even though you have a cleaning crew you hire to clean?) In reference to dust on the ceiling air ducts, look around next time you are in a restaurant. Unless its cleaned daily there’s a good chance there’s gonna be a little dust on them. Not an excuse just a fact.(Yes, that's true....in some facilities.)
The only violation which would normally shut a restaurant down would be the water heater which was fixed in minutes, in fact before the inspector left (so why aren't you open now if it was fixed before he left?) and lastly and most obviously improper refrigeration is of course a potential hazard but anyone in the business knows that it happens with hot kitchens with old equipment.(old equipment? age shouldn't matter as long as it's serviced and maintained properly. If you question your equipment, don't use it.) We would not and have never served anything which has become potentially hazardous to any customer at any time, never, ever.
Cowboyz Saloon has not had one single complaint filed with the Worcester Health Department since opening for business . This is also public record. This is not the case for numerous current operators of foodservice facilities in the County and in Ocean City. This fact is undisputable record. (Again, this is not about other restaurants, this is about your restaurant)
Health Inspections are public record. A person could walk into the local Health Dept. office on St. Martin Neck road and request current reports on any restaurant in Ocean City. Feel free to do this and compare what you find with what was reported on Cowboyz and you will see that most of these violations are commonplace and occur regularly in foodservice. Again this is not meant to be an excuse, however it is a fact which is a rarity it seems. (Rarity? I'm not in the food service business, and I know 3-5 places off the top of my head that closed due to health code violations in the West OC/OC area just in the past 2 years. Again, no need to point to no one but yourself, two wrongs don't make a right.)
Molly Hatchet Tickets purchased online were instantly refunded thru Paypal. Any tickets or VIP Tables purchased offline can be refunded at the place of purchase. As of today 90% of the tickets have been fully refunded. (Good job) Due to legal matters no further comments can be made as to the continued closure or the peculiar timing of this whole ludicrous situation. (why are you seeing this as ludicrous? What legal matters do you have pending that you cannot comment? What are you suing for, 'bad timing' on a so-called 'planned closure'?)
A formal statement will be released on Tuesday from our legal counsel
concerning any other allegations as well as our future plans for Cowboyz.
Press Inquiries can be made at this
On a personal note Cowboyz Staff and Management would like to thank those of you who have stuck by us in this difficult time. There are always going to be anonymous people out there who think they know the whole story and hide behind a computer screen on forums and blogs acting like they are experts. Really they are just a lot of sad people with nothing better to do than jump on the innuendo bandwagon. (I thought you said this was public record?)This is still America as far as we know, and generally you are supposed to innocent until proven guilty not vice versa. We will have our day in court and our right to face our accusers one day. The ridiculous rumors that are being spread are very typical of a small town like Ocean City and anyone who’s every been the victim of this knows what we mean.So next time you have the urge to perpetuate a falsity consider the source you are relying on and question the motives. We all know everything you read in the papers and online is the absolute truth. (Really....um, what? Re-read that last sentence, it may be lacking a word or two...or were you just being sarcastic?)

Nothing about the underage drinking? Nothing about the public pornos?
. . . . . There you have it folks. That's how I feel about it.
Again, I am very sorry for hastily posting without consideration of the nay-sayers trying to poke holes in Joe's earlier postings, and for some readers that thought I was defending Cowboyz Saloon. I will give credit where credit is due . . . and I have Joe's back 120% on this one. I have nothing but respect for Joe. I agree that everyone is entitled to their opinion, regardless of how crazy it may be. There have been times that I have not agreed with Joe, but this time it's not the case at all.
Readers, it was wrong of me to assume that everyone would know why I posted as I did....even Joe did not know why I posted in such fashion without personally commenting. I assumed the post would stand on its own without my comments. This one, however, was my mistake. No one can read anyone's mind or perception of such posting without commenting. Live and learn!
SALVATION ARMY SEEKS COMMUNITY CHOIR PARTICIPANTS
This year marks the 95th year of the Salisbury Red Kettle Campaign. Funds raised through the kettles enable The Salvation Army to help thousands of individuals not only at Christmas, but throughout the year. The Corps particularly wants to see that no one goes cold, hungry or without knowing the joy of Christmas. With the requests for services continuing to rise, a successful Red Kettle Campaign is critical for the local Corps to continue “doing the most good” for those who need it the most.
“Now, more than ever, community involvement is needed,” said Captain Cameron Henderson, Salisbury Corps Officer. “It is not just the community’s help that we need; we need God’s blessing for this campaign to be successful. The Blessing of the Kettles is our way of asking for His strength and guidance as we do His work.”
The Blessing of the Kettles service will be a time of music, of prayer, of scripture and of celebration. The Salvation Army is asking the community to come together and be part of this event by taking part in the Kettle Choir. Under the direction of Mae Higgins, music coordinator of Providence Presbyterian Church, the Kettle Choir will provide the musical backdrop for the service.
“I am so excited that the community has the opportunity to take part in this service”, said Higgins. “There is nothing more inspiring that hearing voices joined together honoring God with song. It is my hope that many from our community will take part”.
Four rehearsals are scheduled, but choir members only need to attend three of the four. The dates are: Mondays, October 12th and October 26th from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays, November 1st and 8th from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. If needed, a final rehearsal is tentatively planned for Friday, November 13th at 7 p.m. All rehearsals will take place at Providence Presbyterian Church, 311 Parker Road, Salisbury.
The service will be open to the public. Attendees are requested to bring a canned good for The Salvation Army Food Pantry. A freewill offering will also be held during the service.
To sign up for the Kettle Choir or for more information about the Blessing of the Kettles service, please email to: kettlechoir@gmail.com

'Respect' proposal has nearly 100 members of Congress endorsing homosexuality
Nearly 100 members of the U.S. House are working in lockstep with the Obama administration to try to eliminate protections for traditional marriage in the United States with the "Respect for Marriage Act" that has just been introduced in Congress.
H.R. 3567 was introduced just days ago by U.S. Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-New York, and more than 90 co-sponsors.
"This legislation would repeal the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), a 1996 law which discriminates against lawfully married same-sex couples," Nadler said in a statement on his website. The proposal has been assigned to committee.
"The 13-year-old DOMA singles out legally married same-sex couples for discriminatory treatment under federal law, selectively denying them critical federal responsibilities and rights, including programs like social security that are intended to ensure the stability and security of American families," his statement continued.
"The introduction of the Respect for Marriage Act responds directly to a call from President Obama for congressional action on the issue. As the president recently confirmed: 'I stand by my long-standing commitment to work with Congress to repeal the so-called Defense of Marriage Act. It's discriminatory, it interferes with states' rights, and it's time we overturned it," the statement said.

SFD Does It Again
Joe,
Today, Sunday at approximately 12:00 PM Volunteer Deputy Chief Gordy got on the radio and asked for the location of Tower 16 and Engine 2. Then he told them to meet him at Connolly Mill Road. My guess is he meant to say Gordy Tiger Mart. Then it was determined that the brand new fire trucks were to be in the Delmar Parade. I guess he wanted to show off "his" new fire trucks in his old stomping grounds. Now if I remember correctly there is a major recession going on in this city as well as the state and country. Now that is the case and the Mayor of Salisbury has gone back to revisit the original budget for major cuts. Now since the city of Salisbury is hurting for revenue then why in the world is Bill Gordy allowed to take two major capital pieces out of service just to run them through a silly parade in Delmar Delaware. This is totally rediculous, absurd and uncalled for. This man has wasted way to much money and manpower in Salisbury he needs to be run out of town.
Note to Mayor Ireton: Capitol Fire Apparatus has to be approved by you before it is allowed to leave town unless it is on an emergency run. Did you or did you not give Bill Gordy and Rick Hopper permission to take Tower 16 and Engine 2 out of the city limits for a parade in another town/state?
How much did this cost in fuel? How much did this cost in man hours? How much did this cost in wear and tear on capital apparatus? This is positive proof that Bill Gordy bought these new fire trucks just to show off and use as parade pieces. The leadership of the Salisbury Fire Department are thieves and need to be treated like criminals.
Someone needs to be held accountable for these insubordinate actions of Bill Gordy and Richard Hoppes. Jim Ireton if you ignore this situation you are derelict in your duties as the elected city executive. Do your job and put a stop to this NOW!!!

Subject Charged With 5th Offense DUI Subsequent Crash Investigation
Subject Charged with 5th Offense DUI Subsequent Crash Investigation
Location: Longneck Road at Cove Drive (Mariners Cove development), Millsboro, Delaware, Sussex County
Date and Time: Saturday, September 19, 2009, at 4:23 p.m.
Suspect(s): Thomas Albanese, 48, of Lewes, Delaware
Resume: On the Saturday afternoon, Troopers were contacted by SUSCOM (State Police Dispatch Center in Sussex County) in reference to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Longneck Road and the entrance road (Cove Drive) to Mariners Cove.
As Troopers were arriving on the scene, it was learned that the driver of a 2005 Chevrolet pick up truck (which was pulling a boat trailer) involved in this crash had fled on foot. Responding officers obtained a description of this subject and began to conduct an area canvas.
While checking the Fairfield development, Troopers located the suspect in question, Thomas Albanese, hiding in a group of bushes. He was apprehended without incident and officers determined that he had been drinking and that he was in fact DUI.
In the original crash investigation, it was learned that a vehicle was stopped on Long Neck Road and was preparing to turn onto Cove Drive. Albanese approached this vehicle from behind and then attempted to pass the other vehicle on the left which resulted in the collision.
A routine computer check revealed that Albanese had four previous convictions for DUI; this offense would be his fifth. Additionally, the trailer Albanese was pulling was not registered properly and the he was driving on a suspended license. It was noted that the operator in the other vehicle was not injured.
Thomas Albanese was formally charged with the following offenses: 5th Offense DUI (felony), Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Crash (traffic offense), Driving while Suspended (traffic offense), Failure to Provide Information at a Collision Scene (traffic offense), Failure to Have Insurance (traffic offense), Expired Tags (traffic offense) and Improper Passing (traffic offense).
He was released on a $6,900.00 unsecured bond early this morning.

Salisbury Is Now The #2 Most Dangerous City In America
SHOW HIM YOUR BADGE, SMART ASS!!!
The old Farmer says, "Okay, but don't go in that field over there". The Trooper verbally explodes saying, "Mister, I have the authority of the Iowa State Police Department with me. Reaching into his rear pocket and removing his badge, the Officer proudly displays it to the Farmer. "See this badge?!!
This badge means I am allowed to go wherever I wish, ON ANY LAND, no questions asked, or answers given!! Have I made myself clear?? Do YOU understand?!!?"
The old Farmer nods politely and goes about his chores. Later, the old Farmer hears loud screams, and sees the Trooper running for his life and close behind is the Farmer's bull. With every step, the bull is gaining on the Trooper. The Trooper is clearly terrified.
The old Farmer immediately throws down his tool's and runs to the fence, yelling at the top of his lungs..... ...........
"YOUR BADGE!! SHOW HIM YOUR BADGE, SMART ASS!!!"

Desperately Seeking A Healthcare Bill
NRO’s The Corner
Speeding Over the Cliff
It is quite amazing to watch Obama invoke God, call a joint session of Congress, go tit-for-tat with the town-hall movement, and reprogram daily the presidential message over the healthcare initiative — all in the midst of a recession. The problem is that right now 85% are not upset with their healthcare coverage, and feel that modifications, not a trillion-dollar reinvention, can address the uninsured, while 100% are paranoid about the economy, mega-deficits, and a shot dollar.
Cannot some staffer take the president aside and simply say, "If you just cool it for a bit, and curb lunatic new spending, the economy will go into its natural cycle of recovery, and you can take credit early next year for the rebound, then find some bipartisan project, and hope and change your way back up"?
The parallels to Clinton 1993–1994 are eerie. He misinterpreted unhappiness over a recession, a Bush aloofness and broken pledge on taxes, and the siphoning of votes by Ross Perot into some sort of hard-left mandate that included, inter alia, nationalized healthcare. Then came the 1994 push-back. But Clinton and his advisors were astute enough to reinvent themselves in the late autumn 1994, and by 1997 he was reelected, taking credit for a surging economy and enjoying 60%+ ratings.
Illegals and Health Insurance — Not So Simple . . .
In all the controversy about the proposed new health plan and its extension to illegal aliens, one question is never raised: Why haven't illegal aliens, many of them employed, young, and healthy, simply bought private catastrophic plans — and are they presently really uninsured?
The presumption is that poverty precludes purchase of a plan. But $50 billion in remittances go to Latin America and Mexico, at least at the peak in 2007. In my hometown, cell phones and nice cars are evident at the emergency-room environs, as I can attest from a few visits for a broken arm among other things.
In other words, the choice not to buy hospitalization insurance in many cases is one of discretionary spending: Someone decides to buy a cell phone, or send $400 a month back to Mexico rather than buy into something like a catastrophic plan from Kaiser for $300 a month, because 1) he is young and relatively healthy; 2) there is usually a federal or rural state health clinic around that gives free routine care (many here in the central valley), or an emergency room that offers free emergency and catastrophic care; 3) a decision is made to save money from buying such insurance in order to divert it to relatives in Mexico on the expectation that others in the United States (many of them lower-middle class taxpayers) will make up the difference and subsidize free healthcare for illegal aliens if the need arises.
Before we get into an acrimonious debate over the ethics of extending healthcare to a new constituency, we should understand that the ethical question cuts both ways, and that millions illegally here have already made a deliberate decision to subsidize millions in Latin America and Mexico (to the great relief of their governments) on the presumption that they in turn will be subsidized by millions of taxpayers here. I am not sure it is such a moral thing for an elderly person to worry about Medicare cutbacks so that funds could be diverted to extend healthcare coverage to younger illegal aliens, so that they in turn can continue to send billions home. Even stranger, to a large extent that is already happening: We talk about the "uninsured," but almost daily in Central California, a car accident or an act of violence or a work-related injury sends a Mexican national without documentation to the emergency room — and hundreds of thousands of dollars of necessary, but free, catastrophic care to be picked up by the taxpayer.
Obama Could Learn from Bush
There are eerie similarities between Obama’s present crusade to alter healthcare and Bush’s 2005 effort to change Social Security through the introduction of private accounts. Just as Joe Wilson heckled Obama, so too Democrats booed Bush during his 2005 “State of the Union” address. Bush felt his re-election would translate into grassroots support for Social Security reform. But the problem then was that most Americans were more or less happy with the system, and did not believe that those over 55 were fully exempt from the proposed changes, or that private investments were superior to government-guaranteed returns. They knew there were problems with Social Security’s actuarial tables, but felt that modification, rather than wholesale reinvention, was the proper cure.
The Bush effort failed, and Obama should learn from it: He should remember that most Americans like their health-insurance coverage precisely because it gives them access to the best care in the world (especially when it comes to treatment for cancer and heart problems) and can be improved to extend coverage to the uninsured without radical reinvention.
Most likely, even as he continues to spout hope-and-change, this-is-our-moment rhetoric, Obama will discover the parameters of governance that all presidents — even the most messianic — must operate within.
Obama's Mad Dash Continues
Obama's problem is more fundamental than his health-care mess. He campaigned on a no more red state/blue state, white/black, rich/poor polarity, and offered a sort of transcendence that was used to make up for his prior dubious relationships with the likes of Reverend Wright and Bill Ayers.
When governing, his supporters liked to think that he would have to rein in extremists like Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid to gravitate to the center and work in "bipartisan fashion." But that was never in the cards. The problem is that beneath Obama's hope-and-change veneer, his past legislative and vocal record (cf. his Senate partisanship, his statements in his memoirs, his spread-the-wealth, clingers, typical-white-person gaffes, his talk of single-payer healthcare and reparations, etc) were hard left, left even of Pelosi and Reid. The Van Jones appointment was logical, not an aberration. So to save his presidency, since the hope-and-change hocus-pocus has become old and trite, Obama would have to become an un-Obama, and do a 1995 Clinton switcheroo.
We have elected the most left-wing president in our history, apparently to many an unappreciated fact given the Bush unpopularity, the wars, the so-so McCain candidacy, and the September 2008 meltdown, but one that now, through a variety of minor and major incidents (from the apologies abroad and the cap-and-trade zealotry to the Gates incident to Van Jones), is being revealed to the American people — and they are not comfortable with it.
His supporters can charge "racism" or go back to the "this is our moment" tropes, or try to reexamine the crazies more carefully before appointing them, but the problem remains that the Obama worldview, one that he embraced at an early age and deliberately sought to enhance through his education and work in Chicago, is simply not one that most Americans feel comfortable with.
So we are in a race — will a majority of the American people wake up from their past anger at Bush and subsequent hypnotism by Obama before he pushes through and institutionalizes an agenda to the left of what we see in Europe?
The coming months should be interesting.

PARANOID PERSONALITY DISORDER
People with this disorder generally are combative and suspicious in nature and may elicit a hostile response in others. They often become involved in legal disputes. They may exhibit thinly hidden, unrealistic grandiose fantasies, are often attuned to issues of power and rank. They need to have a high degree of control over those around them. They are often rigid, critical of others and have great difficulty accepting criticism themselves.
More severely affected individuals with this disorder may form tightly knit cults or groups with others who share their paranoid beliefs. History is filled with individuals who achieved the pinnacles of power with this disorder. We now witness the Democrat cult vying with the Republican cult for power. The time has arrived when a group of citizens will toss all of the paranoid personality cults into the trash bin.

Subject Beats Wife And Her Current Boyfriend With Bat In Burglary
Date and Time: Sunday, September 20, 2009, at 3:30 a.m.
Suspect(s): Anthony Dorio, 47, of Old Harmony Road, Newark, Delaware
Resume: At approximately 3:30 a.m. this morning Troopers were called to a home along West Main Street, in the town of Christiana, for a reported domestic assault.
This investigation revealed Anthony Dorio, 47, of Old Harmony Road and his wife, a 39-year-old female, had been separated for several months. A bit after 3 a.m., Dorio responded to the West Main Street address which is where his wife and her current boyfriend, a 27-year-old male, were staying.
Dorio broke into the home and proceeded to a first floor bedroom where his wife and the boyfriend were sleeping. He was armed with an aluminum bat, and as the boyfriend was sleeping, began to strike him in the head. The wife woke up and started to scream. She was then stuck in the arm a single time with the bat.
A 37-year-old male, also living in the home was asleep in another bedroom and heard the commotion. He walked into the adjacent bedroom to see what was going on. As he walked in, Dorio turned his attention on him and began to strike this subject several times in the head with the bat. Dorio then fled the residence.
All three victims were transported to Christiana Hospital where they were treated for their injuries. The two male victims were the most seriously hurt with injuries to their heads and upper bodies. The female suffered an injury to her arm.
A computer check revealed a Protection from Abuse Order was issued on August 28th for Dorio to stay away from his wife.
About an hour after the attack, Troopers located Dorio at a family member’s home in Elsmere. He was taken into custody without incident and transported back to Troop 2 for processing. He was formally charged with the following felony offenses: Assault 1st, two counts of Assault 2nd, three counts of Possession of a Deadly Weapon during the Commission of a Felony, Violation of a Protection from Abuse Order and Burglary.
His & Her Diary Entries
Tonight, I thought my husband was acting weird. We had made plans to meet at a bar to have a drink. I was shopping with my friends all day long, so I thought he was upset at20the fact that I was a bit late, but he made no comment on it.
Conversation wasn't flowing, so I suggested that we go somewhere quiet so we could talk. He agreed, but he didn't say much. I asked him what was wrong; he said, 'Nothing.' I asked him if it was my fault that he was upset. He said he wasn't upset, that it had nothing to do with me, and not to worry about it..
On the way home, I told him that I loved him. He smiled slightly, and kept driving. I can't explain his behavior. I don't know why but he didn't say, 'I love you, too.'
When we got home, I felt as if I had lost him completely, as if he wanted nothing to do with me anymore. He just sat there quietly, and watched TV. He continued
to seem distant and absent. Finally, with silence all around us, I decided to go to bed. About 15 minutes later, he came to bed. To my surprise, he responded to
my caress, and we made love. But I still felt that he was distracted, and his thoughts were somewhere else. He fell asleep - I cried. I don't know what to do.
I'm almost sure that his thoughts are with someone else. My life is a disaster.
