New Pennsylvania state police commissioner draws ire over uniform

Wear suit, not state police uniform, retired troopers tell nominee

HARRISBURG —
Col. Marcus Brown, Gov. Tom Wolf’s choice to lead the state police, has served as a patrol officer, a SWAT commander and the second-in-command of the Baltimore police.

He has led the Maryland Transportation Authority and the Maryland State Police.

But since his swearing-in on the day of Mr. Wolf’s inauguration, a group of retired troopers has taken exception to his decision to don the gray uniform of the Pennsylvania State Police.

They post on a Facebook page created to protest his wearing of the uniform, and encourage others to contact state senators, who must confirm Col. Brown, 50, as state police commissioner. In interviews, retired troopers said their questions are not limited to the uniform but extend to other issues, such as an association with then-Gov. Martin O’Malley’s push for gun-control measures. (Col. Brown has said he supports the Second Amendment and that there are no firearm proposals on the Pennsylvania agenda.)

“There’s a lot of people both inside the department and outside the department who deeply resent Marcus Brown being appointed for a variety of reasons,” retired trooper Charles Cusanno said.

I support the PSP. Screw that O'Malley Clown!!

I just looked at his picture and he has 3 stars on his collar. It's funny how police chiefs come up with their own standards. Mike Lewis is the same way.

maybe the police should concentrate on solving crimes and not shooting people. seems like the uniform thing is way down the list of issues.

What's his 2A stance?

Your missing the point ppl. Their saying Brown disgraces the uniform...because of his anti constitutional stance from his past...here in MD....and he does!

Don't recall him speaking out against the restrictive legislation passed in MD.

Don't recall his employees being prompt in getting background checks done.

And the crap about his dual domiciles only means he devoted a lot of time he could have been 'on the job' to his commute while MD paid for the gas and wear/tear on the car(s).

For PA, it means their new governor will have a pliable toady, and since Camp Hill is effectively a suburb of Harrisburg his commuting days are over.

I resent Marcus Brown but for much more personal reasons. God help them.

WTF really knows. He was extremely close to O'Malley so he will probably tell you what you want to know just to get a job.
