Microsoft Announces Major Executive Shakeup

In a major shakeup of his senior management team, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has ousted three key executives.

The most notable among those leaving is Stephen Elop, the former Nokia (NOK) CEO who came back to Microsoft (MSFT, Tech30) after the companies merged last year.

Elop was formerly the head of Microsoft Office before he took the Nokia job in 2010. When he returned to Microsoft last year, he oversaw the company's devices group, which includes Nokia phones and the Surface tablet.

Elop's departure doesn't come as much of a shock. Microsoft's devices business has largely been struggling since he returned to the company. Though Surface has begun to catch on with consumers, Microsoft has been unable to gain much headway with its Windows Phones.

"Stephen and I have agreed that now is the right time for him to retire from Microsoft," Nadella said in an email to employees. "I regret the loss of leadership that this represents, and look forward to seeing where his next destination will be."

Uber Still Working Out Logistics Of Delivering Food And Merchandise

New business ventures sometimes have unexpected problems. As ride-hailing service Uber tries to expand its business into hauling lunch orders and same-day online orders around, the company has hit some unanticipated problems. For example, some people order lunch when they think they’re ordering a ride, since both are part of the same mobile app. Some high-end retailers couldn’t use Uber driver since their insurance only covers merchandise up to $1,000.

Berlin spray paint suspects face trial Friday

Nearly six months after a nighttime spray painting spree shocked Berlin residents, two suspects will go to trial in Worcester County District Court on Friday morning on 40 vandalism-related charges that resulted in $11,276 in damages.

The defendants, Nick Bonser, 18, of Berlin, and Jordan Denton, 18, of Ocean City, face 39 charges of malicious destruction of property and one count of theft less than $100. The theft charge is believed to be in conjunction with the spray paint itself, taken from a nearby Wal-Mart shortly before the incident occurred on the evening of Jan. 25.

According to the Worcester County State’s Attorney’s office, an unnamed juvenile suspect entered into a plea bargain and submitted a plea of “involved” to all 40 charges.

The state’s attorney may only discuss outcomes when dealing with juvenile cases, so sentencing recommendations and details are unavailable.

THE FUTURE IS HERE! You’ll never believe how they’re going to build this bridge in Amsterdam

It’s been fascinating to watch what people are using 3D printers to make, but in Amsterdam they just raised the bar. They areattempting to make a bridge. Yes, an actual bridge.

“We research and develop groundbreaking, cost-effective robotic technology with which we can 3D-print beautiful, functional objects in almost any form,” wrote MX3D on the project Web page. “The ultimate test? Printing an intricate, ornate metal bridge for a special location to show what our robots and software, engineers, craftsmen and designers can do.”

The bridge will be designed by artist and designer Joris Laarman, who helped develop the Mataerial 3D printer — or MX3D-Resin — and the MX3D-Metal, a robotic 3D printer that combined the MX3D-Resin with a welder to be able to “draw” fast-setting metal structures.

You can watch more about what they are planning to do below. It’s the future of tomorrow, today!

The 10 Best Lines From Donald Trump’s Announcement Speech

It’s hard to pick just ten.

Donald Trump launched his quixotic presidential bid Tuesday in a speech at his Trump Tower office building in Manhattan.

The discursive, pugnacious announcement was one of the more bizarre spectacles of the 2016 political season thus far — and one of the most entertaining.

It’s hard to pick just one sound bite, but here’s a shot at the 10 best nuggets:

10. On terrorism: “Islamic terrorism is eating large portions of the Mideast. They’ve become rich. I’m in competition with them.”

9. On his GOP rivals: “The other candidates — they went in, they didn’t know the air conditioning didn’t work. They sweated like dogs. They didn’t know the room was too big because they didn’t have anybody there. How are they gonna beat ISIS? I don’t think it’s gonna happen.”

8. On the future of the Affordable Care Act: “Remember, Obamacare really kicks in in ‘16. 2016. Obama’s gonna be out playing golf. He might even be on one of my courses. I would invite him, I actually would say it. I have the best courses in the world so I’d say, you know what if he wants to. I have one right next to the White House. Right on the Potomac. If he’d like to play, that’s fine. In fact, I’d love him to leave early and play.”

What THIS Black Woman Did in a Liberal Texas Town Has Democrats Shocked and Scared

The city of San Antonio, Texas has a new mayor and her victory has liberals and Democrats in this liberal stronghold in Texas scared. Why? Because she is a black woman who ran as a more conservative, openly evangelical candidate and she won handily beating the liberal favorite backed by Obama’s HUD director Julian Castro.

Ivy Taylor just became the first black woman elected as San Antonio’s mayor. And the thrill of this is that she beat Obama’s guy Julian Castro who handpicked his successor… and it wasn’t Taylor!

A quietly determined underdog triumphed over an entrenched political machine. A potential vice-presidential candidate in 2016 was abandoned by his political base. And the underdog began her victory speech by shouting “To God Be The Glory!” – a felony anywhere but in Texas.

All those things happened on Saturday when Ivy Taylor became the first black woman elected as San Antonio’s mayor. Initially given little chance, she defeated former State Senator Leticia Van de Putte by a 52-48 margin, her victory delivered by a multicultural coalition of evangelical voters. Anywhere else, invoking the Almighty’s blessing might seem like a dubious strategy. But Mayor Ivy led her own prayer meetings in a campaign that counted on Bible-belt religious faith to overcome hard-wired dividing lines of race, class and ethnicity.

Ex-cons get second chances at new auto shop

HALETHORPE, Md. —A new auto service center in Halethorpe is helping to give some men and women a second chance.

"It's like my sanctuary, peace of mind," said Perry Bailey, a mechanic intern.

Eight new mechanic interns at Full Circle Service Center, a subsidiary of Vehicles for Change, are former inmates in the Maryland prison system. Many said they've had trouble finding employment since being released.

"I filled out 47 applications since I've been home in auto mechanic field and all of them say the same thing, 'Oh, you got a felony on your record, we can't hire you,'" Bailey said.

Clinton Allies Accused of Abusing Visa System

The Department of Labor is investigating two outsourcing giants with ties to the Clinton Foundation for illegally supplanting American workers with cheap foreign labor.

The Department of Labor announced on Thursday it was investigating Tata Consultancy Services and Infosys for allegedly forcing American IT workers to train foreign workers before being laid off. Some of those employees allege that their employers replaced them with the immigrants who were in the country on temporary visas.

The Labor Department is investigating whether or not the companies abused the H-1B program, which grants temporary visas to fill highly-skilled jobs that employers claim are not adequately filled by American workers. The law requires that companies take “good faith steps to recruit U.S. workers” and “has not displaced a U.S. worker at the time of filing an H-1B visa petition,” according to the department.

The investigation was announced on Thursday by a bipartisan group of senators.

Anti-Semitism Skyrockets in Canada

Anti-Semitic incidents in Canada skyrocketed over the last year and have now hit the highest levels “ever recorded” by human rights groups tracking the number of anti-Jewish episodes, according to a new study.

Canadians across the country reported experiencing more anti-Semitism than in the past four years, with anti-Semitic incidents having risen a total of 28 percent from 2013 to 2014, according to the global Jewish advocacy group B’nai B’rith International (BBI).

This made 2014 the “worst year” for anti-Semitism since advocacy groups began tracking incidents in 1982.

The majority of those who reported an instance of anti-Semitism faced harassment, while others faced forms of violence and vandalism as a result of being Jewish, according to the report.

The rise coincides with a global surge in anti-Semitism, including a rash of terrorist attacks against Jewish communities in countries such as France.

Airport employee takes boy's lost stuffed tiger on adventure

Shortly after boarding a flight to Houston with his family, 6-year-old Owen Lake was frantically searching for his beloved stuffed tiger, Hobbes.

When the boy told his mother his favorite stuffed animal was gone, she called Tampa International Airport to report the "missing" handmade tiger.

Nearly an hour after their plane landed in Houston, Owen's mom, Amanda, got a call from the airport: the stuffed tiger was safe and sound in the airport's Lost and Found.

The mom breathed a sigh of relief, but her son was still feeling uneasy.

Hobbes was on an "adventure," she assured Owen, promising that he'll be back in his arms after their vacation ends.

Amanda's promise to her son couldn't be more true.

Back in Tampa, Airport Operations Center Manager Tony D'Aiuto, who was at the airport when the dispatch call came in from the boy's mom, decided to take Hobbes on "great adventures" around the airport.

WARNING GRAPHIC VIDEO: Mexican Cartel Members Blow Up Child And Rival

A newly surfaced video shows a new level of savagery by Mexican drug cartel members, as they strap sticks of dynamite to a child and to one of their rivals, only to light the fuses and blow them up.

The video was initially published by the Mexican news agency Reforma, who leaked the video that Mexican authorities found in the cell phone of Heriberto “El Gringo” Acevedo Cardenas, a top commander with the fearsome Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion. Acevedo died in a firefight with authorities on March 23 along with three of his bodyguards, Mexico’s SinEmbargo.Mx reported.

The video shows a boy who appears to be in his pre-teenage years crying moments before his execution. The boy has his hands tied behind his back and has a stick of dynamite strapped to his neck.

The strictest and most lenient states for DUI

Every day, almost 30 people in the U.S. die in motor vehicle crashes that involve an alcohol-impaired driver, yet state laws still vary dramatically when it comes to dealing with this issue.

Personal finance site WalletHub analyzed the enforcement rules in each of the 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia across 15 key metrics, from minimum jail sentences to ignition interlock device requirements — a breath alcohol measuring device installed on a car’s dashboard — that drastically reduce repeat arrests of those previously convicted of driving under the influence, or getting a DUI. For instance, there is no minimum jail sentence for a first-time offender in more than half of U.S. states.

Arizona was the strictest state for DUIs and has the longest minimum jail term (10 days) for first-time offenders, a vehicle impound and a 90-day minimum jail time for a second offense. A DUI is an automatic felony with a third offense and an ignition interlock device is mandatory after one DUI conviction. Arizona was followed by Alaska, Connecticut, West Virginia, Kansas, Nebraska, Utah, Virginia as the strictest states on the list.

South Dakota, the least strict out of all 50 states, has no minimum sentence for either a first or second DUI. Although a third DUI is considered a felony, there is no administrative license suspension, no vehicle impound, no administrative license suspension and no mandatory ignition interlock device required. The other lenient regions included D.C., Pennsylvania, North Dakota, Maryland, Montana, Wisconsin and Kentucky.

Hatch Should Fix H1-B Visa Program Instead Of Expanding It

Corporate lobbyists have convinced legislators of both parties that America needs more guest workers in high-tech jobs. Leading the charge in Congress to do their bidding is Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch, who has introduced legislation to double or triple the number of non-immigrant tech workers who can be hired annually on H-1B visas. But his proposal won't fix the H-1B program's flaws, which allow American and foreign workers alike to be exploited and underpaid.

A program that brings skilled, smart people from abroad to work in the United States can be a very good thing — but only if it's done fairly, and after giving U.S. workers a chance to be hired. Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Fla., wrote recently that the H-1B program "was created to help fill jobs when there were labor shortages, not to take jobs away from anyone." The reality is that employers aren't required to search for or offer jobs to U.S. workers first, and the H-1B program has been used repeatedly by corporations to fire and replace skilled and educated U.S. workers with cheaper, indentured, temporary foreign workers. This is done to increase corporate profits, but it's at the expense of the livelihoods of thousands of American workers.

Thanks to reporting from The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times and Computerworld, the American public is getting a glimpse of the H-1B's primary purpose. Recent, egregious examples took place at Disney and Southern California Edison (SCE) — two companies that earned billions in profits last year — where hundreds of information technology workers were laid off and replaced with H-1Bs. But first, the U.S. employees were required to train the H-1B workers who would soon be sitting at their desks, doing their jobs.

SHERIFF ARPAIO: AMERICAN FLAG IN EVERY CELL, BREAD AND WATER FOR THOSE WHO MESS WITH IT

On Wednesday, Breitbart News sat down with Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio and discussed what he does behind the scenes to honor America in his jail system and to honor veterans who are inmates in that system.

This entails everything from displaying the American flag to being sure veterans are housed together to honoring patriotic holidays by visiting with incarcerated veterans.

Because of the timing of our visit with Sheriff Arpaio, we asked if there was anything special he did on the first day of this week — June 14, Flag Day.

Rep. Jim Jordan Puts GOP Leadership on Notice

When a group of House conservatives voted last week to kill a trade bill favored by President Obama, House Speaker John Boehner and other GOP leaders who support the measure steamed. Representative Mick Mulvaney (R., S.C.) celebrated the revolt as a coming-of-age moment for rebel backbenchers.

“Yesterday will be the day that we look back at as the day that conservatives finally started getting organized in the House,” he wrote in a note to the Spartanburg Tea Party.

Led by Representative Jim Jordan (R., Ohio), a platoon of conservatives demanded that Boehner agree to a series of concessions in exchange for their support for so-called Trade Promotion Authority (TPA), legislation that would give President Obama wider latitude to negotiate free-trade agreements. When GOP leadership ignored them, Jordan and his allies tried to kill the bill on a procedural vote — a rare step made more surprising by the lawmakers’ general support for free trade. It was the boldest attempt yet from the recently formed House Freedom Caucus, which Jordan chairs, to counteract Boehner’s perceived tendency to wilt in the face of Democratic pressure.

Jordan and other members of the Freedom Caucus believe that Republican leaders have tended to yield to Democratic demands rather than keeping the promises they made on the campaign trail in 2014.

ILLEGAL ALIEN RAPISTS, CHILD MOLESTERS FREED IN U.S. INSTEAD OF DEPORTED

Offenders are “dangerous and predatory individuals who should not be prowling the streets,” the federal prosecutor says

Thousands of illegal immigrants convicted of serious crimes—including rape, child molestation and kidnapping—have been released in the United States by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the agency doesn’t bother keeping track of the alien convicts.

The DHS agency responsible for removing dangerous illegal aliens, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), simply releases sex offenders when they complete their criminal sentence and fails to monitor or force them to register with local authorities in the communities where they resettle. The incredulous story of this outrageous system comes via an investigative series published this week in a Boston newspaper that sued the government for the records. It includes a database of criminals that one former federal prosecutor calls “chilling.” The offenders are “dangerous and predatory individuals who should not be prowling the streets,” the prosecutor says in the article. “In fact, they should not be in the United States at all.”

But our famously inept Homeland Security officials simply let these monsters loose in unsuspecting communities, even though one law enforcement agency cited in the series calls the illegal immigrant cons “the worst of the worst.” At the very least, ICE is supposed to assure that the thugs register with local authorities as sex offenders, but the agency doesn’t even bother to do that. Instead, once ICE frees the offenders, agency officials often lose track of them despite outstanding deportation orders. It’s like negligence on steroids.

FEDS LOSE TRACK OF $2.8 BILLION IN OBAMACARE SUBSIDIES

The government does “not plan to perform a timely reconciliation” of the $2.8 billion in subsidies

The federal government cannot verify nearly $3 billion in subsidies distributed through Obamacare, putting significant taxpayer funding “at risk,” according to a new audit report.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Inspector General (OIG) released an audit Tuesday finding that the agency did not have an internal system to ensure that subsidies went to the right enrollees, or in the correct amounts.

“[The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services] CMS’s internal controls did not effectively ensure the accuracy of nearly $2.8 billion in aggregate financial assistance payments made to insurance companies under the Affordable Care Act during the first four months that these payments were made,” the OIG said.

The 'Show Me the Money' State

Dem governor received $50K from UAW after vetoing right to work

Missouri’s second highest elected official blasted Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon for accepting lucrative union campaign donations after vetoing right to work legislation.

Nixon received $50,000 from the United Auto Workers union just days after vetoing legislation that would have ended the practice of coercive unionism in the state. Republican Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder demanded he return it, criticizing the seeming quid pro quo.

“Less than a week after he vetoed Right to Work legislation, Governor Jay Nixon received his reward: A $50,000 check from the United Auto Workers union, headquartered in Detroit. Gov. Nixon is constitutionally barred from seeking reelection. What use, then, does he have for this money?” Kinder said in a release on Tuesday.

Kinder said the timing of the donation gave the appearance of corruption.

“He should return the money. Otherwise, it smells of more ‘pay to play’ politics by this administration,” Kinder said. “The governor likes to give lip service to putting limits on campaign spending while he rakes in millions of dollar from lawyers, lobbyists and labor.”

The Nixon administration did not respond to request for comment.
