Thanks You For Calling Customer Service

Thanks, Obama: 400,000 Illegals Now Will Get Free Healthcare in California

During his amnesty announcement, Obama claimed that these 5 million suddenly “legal” lawbreaking immigrants will not get free healthcare. Looks like he lied, at least as far as illegals in California goes.

Upwards to 400,000 illegals will now qualify for government-paid healthcare in California now that they have legal status.

Roughly one million undocumented immigrants in California qualify for President Obama’s executive action of deferred deportation that he announced on Thursday. Of those 40% will be eligible for the states free Medi-Cal health services, while the remaining will be ineligible under the program’s income requirements.

Medi-Cal is the state’s name for Medicaid, a federal health services program for people who have low income. According to KQED News, the newly protected illegal immigrants do not qualify for other benefits of the Affordable Care Act and are not eligible for subsidies on the Covered California exchange.

“They’ll be in the same situation as DACA,” said Gabrielle Lessard, a health policy attorney with the Los Angeles office of the National Immigration Law Center. Lessard was referring to a 2012 executive action by the president known as the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. DACA granted deferred deportation to children born in America from parents who were in the country illegally.

You and I both know that it won’t be many more months before Obama and the Democrats start pushing for the rest of the 5 million to get free healthcare.

Media, Democrats Called Out Bush, Reagan on Abuse of Executive Power. Where Are Their Voices Now?

Republicans are rightly and predictably infuriated by Barack Obama’s immigration executive action power play. What has been remarkable has been the silence from the left to President Obama granting legal status to some five million illegal immigrants. Such Nixonian abuses of White House power once elicited howls of protest from Democrats and their lap dogs in the media.

But in this case of Obama defying voters, Congress and the Constitution in one fell swoop, the left has drifted between quiet unease to full-throttled support.

What rank hypocrisy.

This is the same crowd that seethed with outrage over the much more defensible use of executive orders and actions by Presidents Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush. With a Republican in the White House, the media’s exhortations about constitutional limits on presidential power, the proper role of Congress, and the danger of concentrated authority were aplenty.

Obama’s Amnesty Rules Won’t Deport Illegals Convicted of Drunk Driving, Sex Abuse, or Drug Dealing

Remember how Obama said during his amnesty announcement on Thursday that he only wants to deport criminals, not children and law-abiding family members who happen to be illegal aliens? Yeah, that was a lie. Now we find that new rules issued by his Department of Homeland Security ends the deportation of illegals convicted of drunk driving, sex abuse, drug dealing and the like.

So, no, Obama is not interested in deporting criminals. He isn’t interested in deporting anyone. His sole goal is to create a massive new pool of Democrat voters who will support the Democrat Party in order to keep open the spigot of government freebies.

The Department of Homeland Security has just released new “Policies for the Apprehension, Detention, and Removal of Undocumented Immigrants.” Designed to fill in the details after President Obama’s announcement that at least four million currently illegal immigrants will be given work permits, Social Security numbers and protection from deportation, the DHS guidelines are instructions for the nation’s immigration and border security officers as they administer the president’s directive.

The new priorities are striking. On the tough side, the president wants U.S. immigration authorities to go after terrorists, felons, and new illegal border crossers. On the not-so-tough side, the administration views convicted drunk drivers, sex abusers, drug dealers, and gun offenders as second-level enforcement priorities. An illegal immigrant could spend up to a year in prison for a violent crime and still not be a top removal priority for the Obama administration.

This man’s goal is to destroy this country. It is just that plain.

Teacher to Student: If You Don’t Support Gay Marriage, Drop My Class

What has happened to freedom of speech in this country? Students who oppose gay marriage are homophobic, according to an audio recording of a Marquette University instructor who went on to say that gay right issues cannot be discussed in class because it might offend homosexuals.

Students who oppose gay marriage are homophobic, according to an audio recording of a Marquette University instructor who went on to say that gay right issues cannot be discussed in class because it might offend homosexuals.

I reached out to the 20-year-old student at the center of this outrageous episode and the story he tells should serve as a warning to anyone who thinks religious schools are safe havens for open discourse.

The story was first reported on a blog run by a Marquette University professor and was picked up by the good folks over at The College Fix.

The young man, who asked not to be identified, explained what happened when his ethics instructor, Cheryl Abbate, led a conversation in “Theory of Ethics” class about applying philosophical theories to modern political controversies. There were a list of issues on the board – gay rights, gun rights, and the death penalty.

“We had a discussion on all of them – except gay rights,” the student told me. “She erased that line from the board and said, ‘We all agree on this.’”

Well, as it so happened – the student did not agree with instructor Abbate.

Budweiser Puts Clydesdales Out To Pasture For Holidays

Budweiser is stabling its iconic Clydesdale horses this holiday season, and light beer, young people and Lime-a-Rita’s are to blame. The “King of Beers” is aiming for a younger crowd using Jay Z, food festivals and zombie-themed parties, but no horses.

Budweiser has seen a dip in popularity and sales the last 25 years, and its parents company, Anheuser-Busch InBev, said that 44 percent of 21- to 27-years-olds in America have never even cracked open a Budweiser before, The Wall Street Journal reports.

The beer giant went from selling 50 million barrels in 1988 to a mere 16 million in 2013, and light beers like Bud Light and Coors Light are responsible for part of the decline.

Rand Paul

Sen. Rand Paul today issued the following statement in response to President Obama's decision to implement immigration reform through the use of executive action.

"President Obama is not above the law and has no right to issue Executive Amnesty. His actions blatantly ignore the Separations of Powers and the principles our country was founded on. The President has said 22 times previously that he does not have the power to legislate on immigration," Sen. Paul said. "I believe that immigration reform is needed, however for true and effective reform, we must first secure the border. I will not sit idly by and let the President bypass Congress and our Constitution."

Woman saying ‘we’re ready for Ferguson’ accidentally shoots self in head, dies

A woman appears to have accidentally fatally shot herself in the head with a gun bought to prepare for possible Ferguson-related unrest, according to sources briefed on the police investigation.

The shooting occurred Friday night in downtown St. Louis, the city’s Metropolitan Police Department said, in an area dominated by vacant lots beside a football stadium.

The female victim, identified in a police report as Becca Campbell, 26, was a passenger in a car involved in an auto accident. Her 33-year-old boyfriend was driving, the sources told CNN.

The boyfriend, who wasn’t identified, told police that the couple had bought a gun because of fears of unrest related to the pending grand jury decision on the shooting of Michael Brown, the sources said.

He told investigators that as they drove late Friday night, the victim waved a gun, jokingly saying the couple were ready for Ferguson, the sources said.

He ducked to get out of the way of the gun and accidentally rear-ended another car. He said the accident caused the gun to go off and she was struck by a bullet in the head, the sources said.

Troubled Marriage Boosts Women's Heart Risk

A bad marriage increases an older adult's risk of heart trouble, and that's particularly true for women, a new study contends.

Researchers examined five years of data from 1,200 married American men and women, aged 57 to 85. People with spouses who were overly critical or demanding were more likely to develop heart disease than those with supportive mates, the researchers from Michigan State University said.

They also found that a bad marriage's harmful impact on heart health increased with age. This may be because marriage-related stress might stimulate more -- and more intense -- cardiovascular responses due to declines in immune function and increasing frailty as people age, the researchers speculated.

Women were more likely suffer poor heart health due to a bad marriage. One possible explanation: Women tend to internalize negative feelings, making them more likely to develop depression and heart problems, according to lead investigator Hui Liu, an associate professor of sociology.

Charles Schwab Urges The Fed To Raise Interest Rates "As Quickly As Possible"

For America’s 44 million senior citizens, plus tens of millions of others who are on the threshold of retirement, last month marked a watershed moment that is worth celebrating. At the end of October, the Federal Reserve announced the first step in returning to a more normal monetary policy. After nearly six years of near-zero interest rates and quantitative easing, the Fed is ending its bond-buying program and has signaled a plan to eventually begin raising the federal-funds rate, raising interest rates to more normal levels by 2017.

U.S. households lost billions in interest income during the Fed’s near-zero interest rate experiment. Because they are often reliant on income from savings, seniors were hit the hardest. Households headed by seniors 65-74 years old lost on average $1,900 in annual income over the past six years, according to a November 2013 McKinsey Global Institute report. For households headed by seniors 75 and older, the loss was $2,700 annually.

With a median income for senior households in the U.S. of roughly $25,000, these are significant losses. In total, according to my company’s calculations, approximately $58 billion in annual income has been lost by America’s seniors since 2008.

Retirees depend on income from their savings for basic living expenses. Without that income, many seniors have taken on greater risk to increase the potential yield on their savings, or simply spent down their nest eggs. After decades of playing by the rules, putting off spending and socking away money, seniors have taken it on the chin. This strikes a blow at the core American principles of self-reliance, individual responsibility and fairness.

Their lost income affects all Americans. Seniors make up 13% of the U.S. population and spend about $1.2 trillion annually—a big chunk of America’s $11.5 trillion consumer economy. In general, seniors spend more than their income, withdrawing each year from accumulated savings, and so their interest earnings get spent right back into the economy.

Obama’s Plan for a Backdoor Internet Tax

Will the Federal Communications Commission tax the Internet?

It’s very possible, said FCC commissioner Mike O’Reilly at a conference sponsored by the Free State Foundation in Washington on Friday.

The tax, which could total over $7 per month on the typical American’s broadband bill, would be imposed as a consequence of regulating the internet via “net neutrality” rules that President Obama has urged the FCC to adopt.

Thousands Of Mexicans Take El Zócalo And Burn Figures Of Mexican President

Mexico has a very deep wound right now after the disappearance of the 43 students in Ayotzinapa. On September 26, dozens of students took several buses to Iguala, and after a violent encounter with the police, 43 of them were allegedly taken to the police headquarters and never heard from them again. The government claimed the students where there to boycott a political event, but the students claim they were there to raise funds for their school. Mexican authorities eventually declared the students dead after weeks of investigation, but the people of Mexico are not letting this one go so easily.

They’ve had enough with the government, and this atrocious act was the last straw, which detonated a series of protests around the whole country. On November 20, 2014, multiple manifestations both in Mexico and of Mexicans living in other countries took place to show their support to the Ayotzinapa students and to tell the government that they’re tired of the corruption. The protest in Mexico City specifically took place at El Zócalo, where protesters took a cardboard figure of Enrique Peña Nieto and burned it at a stake, showing that the president’s approval rating might be dropping to an all time low.

Check out some of the most shocking pictures of the protests, including the one at El Zócalo.

168,000…and counting: Pro-Duggar effort surpasses anti-Duggar petition demanding TLC cancel show

(LifeSite) - Last week, a growing petition on Change.org demanding that TLC yank the Duggar's popular reality TV show "19 Kids and Counting" leapt into the national spotlight after huge mainstream media outlets like The Huffington Post, E!, and the Washington Post reported on the petition effort.

Meanwhile, a counter-petition supporting the Duggars started by LifeSiteNews just three days ago has received almost no media attention, relying instead on the power of grassroots support for the Duggars. (Read the petition here.)

Today, Duggar fans proved that they are a force to be reckoned with.

Earlier today the pro-Duggar counter-petition easily breezed past the Change.org effort, amassing 168,000 signatures as of this writing, and still growing.

Holder’s Office Was Pushing Hard to Silence Sharyl Attkisson

We’ve still got fragments of the full thing, but we now have confirmation that Holder’s Justice Department people felt threatened by former CBS reporter Sharyl Attkisson’s investigation and attempted to silence her.

In an email dated October 4, 2011, Attorney General Holder’s top press aide, Tracy Schmaler, called Attkisson “out of control.” Schmaler told White House Deputy Press Secretary Eric Schultz that he intended to call CBS news anchor Bob Schieffer to get the network to stop Attkisson.

Schultz replied, “Good. Her piece was really bad for the AG.”

The AG would be Holder.

It’s interesting that DOJ people were trying to work through Bob Schieffer. It suggests that access was being traded for censorship.

DOJ was generating friendly stories through favored reporters while trying to shut down unfriendly ones.

DNR Donates Items from Old House to Habitat for Humanity

DNR Forest Service staff donated items salvaged from a house being removed from Pocomoke State Forest to Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore. Proceeds from the 20 windows, nine doors, kitchen cabinets, electrical fixtures and a furnace will help create housing for those in need.

“All of these items will be sold to the public at bargain prices through the ReStore,” said Jim Phillips, Wicomico CountyReStore manager. “Profits go toward the construction of affordable housing for low-income residents. The process keeps these items out of landfills, ensuring that they’re all either recycled or reused.”

DNR Regional Forester Kip Powers got the inspiration when he noticed many items in the house could be reused. He contacted Habitat for Humanity about the possibility of recycling the salvaged goods.

Powers made arrangements so State Forest staff could work with Habitat to collect the goods. Items that could not be sold were taken to a metal recycling center.

Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County has completed 60 houses and has started on the 61st. “TheReStore depends on the generosity of folks like Kip and the Forest Service to provide homes for those who need them most,” said Phillips.

For more on Habitat for Humanity, or to donate, call 410-546-1551 or visit www.habitat.org.

Mafia Hit Man Confesses to Killing President Kennedy

Mafia hit man James Files says in interviews first aired nationally on Newsmax TV Thursday night that he worked along with major mob figures and fired the shot that killed Kennedy from the grassy knoll at Dealey Plaza in Dallas.

Friday, Nov. 22 marks the 51st anniversary of President John F. Kennedy's tragic assassination and Newsmax TV marked the occasion by airing the provocative premiere of the blockbuster documentary "I Killed JFK", featuring never-before-seen footage of Kennedy's confessed killer.

The documentary, produced by Hollywood’s Barry Katz, presents convincing forensic evidence supporting Files' contention that he, and not Lee Harvey Oswald, fired the fatal shot at America's 35th president.

"I squeezed off my round. I hit him and blew his head backward," Files said of the single shot he fired that fateful day.

"I Killed JFK" Executive Producer Barry Katz said: "Until now, no one has ever confessed to the murder of JFK, and most people still believe that Lee Harvey Oswald was the killer. After the world sees this special, I am confident that the greatest mystery of our generation will finally be solved."

IN BID FOR RELEVANCE, OBAMA MORTGAGES DEMS’ FUTURE

President Obama has just conscripted the members of his party – including its only viable 2016 contender – into another long and bruising battle over a deeply divisive topic. Those in the party who agree with the president’s assumptions are cheering, but other Democrats have deep concerns.

[For the third time in 6 years, President Obama returns to give a speech at Del Sol High School in Las Vegas today.]

Grabbing the wheel - Republicans are fretful, too. There is real fear on the red team about what happens over the long-term as the legislative branch is rendered increasingly irrelevant as well about what Constitutional purists in the GOP might try to do. But Democrats are even more nervous. Now that Obama has declared the separation of powers to be conditional – essentially ruling that there is a time limit for the legislative branch to meet executive demands – he has escalated a long simmering conflict and taken control of his party’s future in a frightening way.

[Democratic senators including Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., Joe Donnelly, D-Ind. and Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D. all expressed concerns about the president’s use of executive authority to grant the temporary amnesty.]

62-Year-Old Man Unties He And His Wife During Home Invasion

A 62-year-old Washington man was able to retrieve his gun after untying both himself and his wife during a home invasion earlier this week — a heroic act which left one of the bandits dead.

The incident unfolded Tuesday night in Lakewood after the homeowner answered a knock at his front door, The News Tribune reported. The man’s 66-year-old wife was taking a bath at the time.

The homeowner did not know the three men, but when he tried to close his door they barged into the house, armed with one gun and one knife.

The attackers pistol-whipped the man, who needed stitches in his head. The woman suffered a cut to her hand as the attackers dragged her out of the bath tub in order to tie up the couple.

When the three attackers went outside of the house momentarily, the man was able to bust loose and retrieve his gun, which he kept in a lock box.

The couple escaped just as the three thugs were re-entering the house. The one wielding the gun fired a shot through the front door. The homeowner fired two shots in response and he and his wife fled to their back bedroom.

Surprise: Pelosi Most Unpopular Member of Congress

Just when you thought no one couldpossibly be worse than Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.), you remember there is always Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

Fifty-eight percent of likely U.S. voters have an unfavorable opinion of Pelosi, according to a recent Rasmussen Reports poll. What’s more, a whopping 41 percent have a “very unfavorable” view of the Maryland native.

What is there not to like about Pelosi? After all, Planned Parenthood awarded her with its “highest recognition of leadership, excellence, and outstanding contributions” for her work in support of abortion. Of course, being a “Catholic” the Catholic Church ruled that she may not take Communion due to her unorthodox stance.

There was also that time that Pelosi asserted that America’s Founding Fatherswould have supported Obamacare:

"To go to back to our founders once again, they sacrificed it all for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. This law, the affordable care act, is about a healthier life, the liberty to pursue your happiness."

Troopers Investigate Crash Involving School Bus

Wilmington - The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a two vehicle crash involving a school bus in which two people were injured that occurred this morning just north of New Castle.

The initial investigation has determined that the crash occurred this morning, Monday, November 24, 2014 at approximately 6:50 a.m., as Lesia A. Bass, 49, of Newark, DE, was operating a 2001 International School Bus, owned by First Student Inc., and was attempting to make a left hand turn onto westbound Rogers Road from northbound New Castle Avenue, north of New Castle. As Bass proceeded into the intersection, she drove directly into the path of a 1995 UD box truck which was being operated by James E. Kafantaris, 24, of Newark, DE, and which was traveling southbound on New Castle Avenue. The front left of the box truck then struck the front left of the school bus. The box truck then swerved off of the roadway, striking a light pole just south of the intersection, where it then came to rest. The school bus was able to come to a stop on Rogers Road, just west of the intersection.

A 13 year old male, as well as a 35 year old female, who were passengers on the bus, were removed from the scene by Emergency Medical Services and transported to the Christiana Hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries. There were no other injuries.

Lesia Bass was cited by troopers with failure to yield the right of way.

    Residents: Beach Replenishment Brings Danger

The Delaware Surf Zone Injury study, compiled by Beebe Healthcare, University of Delaware and DNREC experts, began as an effort to predict surf injury conditions, and will not conclude whether or not beach replenishment efforts have caused an increase in surf-related injuries.

Replenishment projects at Delaware's beaches have protected coastal properties, but some residents say these projects also make the beaches more dangerous. A surf-related injury study is underway, but experts say it won't prove whether replenishment is responsible for any increase in surf-related injuries.

During a public workshop in Rehoboth Beach Nov. 1, Dewey Beach resident and coastal property owner Clinton Bunting said future projects should support recreational beach use and not focus only on protecting property.

Clint Eastwood's Oscars Challenge: Getting Liberal Voters to Love 'American Sniper'

With his late-entry contender, the legend may pull off another 'Million Dollar Baby,' but he's got some work to do: "This lefty crowd isn't going to gather around a Navy SEAL best known for killing people," says a rival campaigner

Deep into 2004, as the Oscar race was coalescing around just a few pictures, Martin Scorsese's The Aviator looked like the film to beat. It was classy, it was a period piece, it had a roster of top-notch performances, it was directed by America's most acclaimed filmmaker and its subject matter was near and dear to Hollywood's heart: Howard Hughes.

Sure, Alexander Payne's Sideways and the biopic Ray looked like they might give it a run for its money. But both were small in scale, unlikely to appeal to below-the-line voters, and had none of Aviator's scope.

Just one small threat loomed on the horizon: a boxing picture helmed by an Oscar-winning director and starring an Oscar-winning actor. No, it wasn't the one you might think: It was Cinderella Man, based on the real-life story of James Braddock, which teamed Ron Howard and Russell Crowe for the first time since A Beautiful Mind.

Obamacare premiums for most popular plans will spike 10 percent

Premiums on the most popular Obamacare exchange plans will increase by an average of 10 percent in 2015, according to an analysis released Thursday that underscores the importance of shopping around in the law’s second year.

Avalere Health, a Washington-based consultancy, said 28 percent of all exchange enrollees selected the lowest-cost silver plan available.

They will be re-enrolled in the plan for the coming year if they do not select a new one by Dec. 15, and researchers say consumers can find cheaper options if they look for one.

“This is a competitive market dynamic and many plans that priced attractively last year are playing catch up for 2015,” Avalere CEO Dan Mendelson said. “Consumers who care about costs need to shop.”

Avalere also warned that the benchmark plan by which subsidies are calculated — the second-lowest-cost silver plan — could shift by 2014 to 2015. If last year’s benchmark is no longer the standard in 2015, a person’s with a subsidized plan may see their costs go up.

Senior Citi Banker Found Dead In Bathtub With Slashed Throat

The dust has barely settled on the latest high profile banker suicide in which Deutsche Bank's associate general counsel, and former SEC regulator, Charlie Gambino was found dead, having hung himself by the neck from a stairway banister, and here comes the latest sad entrant in the dead banker chronicles of 2014 when earlier today, the Post reports, a Citigroup banker was found dead with his throat slashed in the bathtub "of his swanky downtown apartment, authorities said Wednesday."

Shawn D. Miller, Citigroup’s managing director of environmental and social risk management, was discovered around 3 p.m. Tuesday by a doorman in the Greenwich Street building, law enforcement sources said. “We are deeply saddened by this news and our thoughts are with Shawn’s family at this time,” said a statement sent out by Citigroup.

Bloomberg adds that "a 42-year-old man was found unconscious yesterday in the bathtub of his Greenwich Street apartment in lower Manhattan with a neck laceration and later pronounced dead, the New York Police Department said in a statement."

Medics declared him dead after responding to an emergency call about 3:11 p.m. and an investigation to determine the cause of death is continuing, police said.

Miller advised executives and clients on sustainability matters, including environmental and social policies related to industries including mining and renewable energy, according to his LinkedIn profile. He helped oversee the development and implementation of policies in more than 100 countries.

“We are deeply saddened by this news and our thoughts are with Shawn’s family at this time,” Danielle Romero-Apsilos, a spokeswoman for the New York-based bank, told Bloomberg an e-mailed statement.

Yet, a greater underlying problem lurks beneath the surface for Wicomico taxpayers.  How does the county provide a decent education for the children of Wicomico County and still live within its means?

West Salisbury Elementary School has been slated for rebuilding.  There is also discussion by the Wicomico County Board of Education (WCBOE) to merge West Salisbury and Charles Chipman Elementary Schools.  Why do we need a new school?  Some may argue that we don’t, but the fact that West Salisbury has been denied any meaningful renovation since it opened in the early 1960’s means that a new school may have to be built.

West Salisbury is Bennett Middle all over again.  Don’t renovate.  Don’t maintain the physical plant more than absolutely necessary in hopes of building a new school.  Evidently, building (first) and renovating schools looks good on a superintendent’s resume.  In addition, the state pays for a hefty share of new school construction but doesn’t cover renovation costs.  As I have noted earlier, Wicomico County can expect a decline in state aid  (and possibly direct aid to the county’s schools).  Currently Wicomico County pays less than 25% of the cost of the county’s schools.  Compare this to 35% in Dorchester and over 75% in Worcester.  In addition, Wicomico will no longer have the chairman of the House Appropriations Committee to look to.  So what should Wicomico County, and its new County Executive, do?

Obama: Taxpayers Must Pay Illegals For Their Kids

Illegal immigrants will receive huge payments from American taxpayers under rules now being imposed by President Barack Obama’s unilateral amnesty.

The illegals will get work-permits and Social Security cards, and will be required to pay taxes, according to Cecilia Munoz, the former immigration lobbyist who is now a top Obama aide.

That means they’re part of the tax system, she said, when she was asked if the illegals would get annual payments under the Earned Income Tax Credit program.

“They are subject to our tax law,” she said, carefully.

America’s Coolest Small Town recognized with three awards at Tourism and Travel Summit

The Town of Berlin was the focal point of three awards at the Maryland Tourism and Travel Summit held last week in Ocean City, announced Mayor Gee Williams.

Berlin was recognized as having the Best Social Media Campaign by the Maryland Tourism Council for its drive to become America’s Coolest Small Town. The Berlin’s Coolest Small Town win was also highlighted in the Visit Maryland Award given by the Maryland Office of Tourism to Worcester County Department of Tourism Director Lisa Challenger. The Visit Maryland Award is granted to individuals and businesses that elevate Maryland’s image as a tourism destination.

“Our partnerships continue to keep us cool,” said Mayor Gee Williams. “We could not have won these awards without the support of the Worcester County Office of Tourism, especially Director Lisa Challenger. She nominated us for the Budget Travel contest. She was the catalyst,” he added.

In addition, Berlin figured prominently in the Best Product or Event Award given to the Horses at the Beach, a horse history trail designed to preserve Maryland’s equine history. Spearheaded by Angela Reynolds, Managing Director at Hotels at Fager’s Island, and a volunteer on the Department of Agriculture’s Horse Industry Board’s Horse History Committee, Horses at the Beach is the first horse history trail in the state, with several locations in Berlin.

“Congratulations to Lisa and Angela on a job well done,” said Mayor Williams. “I am proud of the work they’ve done to enhance the economy of our community. They are helping co-create an even brighter future,” he added.

    Will History Repeat Itself?

Hello Joe - I'll probably need some help from your readers in getting information about Maryland's past government history and I welcome their input.  I have heard that if you wait long enough history will repeat itself.  When I look at today's political scenario that is now playing out here in Maryland -  I don't believe it's been that long ago since the people have seen the same playbook.  In recent times (well - almost recent 12-16 years ago) we had seen a Democratic Governor, nick named "Glendspending," because of his tax and spend management style, drive Maryland deeper into the "Structural Deficit Hole".  Now I don"t remember seeing that term used in Maryland's budget before Paris Glendening. To me - that says there is an automatic deficit built into the budget from the start and that is definitely the wrong road to go down.

MD's Previous History. The people in Maryland were so upset over this "tax/spend" governing style that this Democratic State finally said "Enough is Enough" and did the unthinkable (at least for Maryland) and voted in a Republican Governor. The new Governor did get the state out of the red and into the black but he sure ruffled some feathers along the way.

Ehrlich's Hallmarks - The Deal with Constellation Energy, which gave consumers the largest electric rate increase in our nations history - it really ticked off a lot of people.  After all, wasn't that what the last Governor was all about, taking more money out of our pockets? Then along comes that now famous bill, only surpassed by the "Rain Tax", and it was dubbed "THE FLUSH TAX".  Along with some other decisions (come on now, think back) this resulted in the ouster of the Republican Governor after just one term.  Perhaps if he had listened to the people who had elected him and not the entrenched establishment he would have been in for another term. So once again we get a darling of the Democratic Party elected - O'Malley - who goes right back to doing what Dems seem to do best and that is tax and spend.
So that brings us up to the present and history that's not yet written but you can recognize the scenario that appears to be getting put in placed. Remember when I said, " the Republican Governor should have listened to the people and not the entrenched establishment"?  Let's take a brief look at the Governor Elect's "Transition Team".  To me that term "Transition Team" means just a movement from one form of government and players to another different form of government with different players.  Remember also the "People", said Loud and Clear that they want "CHANGE". Well how can we get change with some of the people who have been assigned to this team? There's Nancy Grasmick to serve as "Education Adviser".   Now here's where I would like to get some assistance from you on these people. Isn't she the person who accepted every Liberal dollar from the federal government for programs like Thornton, Race to the Top, Common Core? Can't we do better? There's got to be some history here that we aren't privy to in order to make that decision.

Then there's the new budget adviser, former Senator Robert Neal, who was a Republican and then changed to become a Democrat.  I don't know about you but I'm not too thrilled about having a Democrat advising on financial matters at this time. Anirban Basu will head up economic development for the transition team. Now he is the chief executive officer of a BALTIMORE Policy Group that charges cities, towns, counties and businesses large sums of money (they charged Pollitt 26-36K to tell him how to improve Wicomico County. Didn't work did it?).  In Wicomico one of the ideas proposed by the Sage Policy Group headed by Mr. Basu - was to charge out of county workers a tax, fee, etc whatever they want to call it, for the privilege of working in Wicomico County. Can you imagine the repercussions? I'm sure this company has some very good ideas but lets face it, the company is based in BALTIMORE.  Need I say anything more about that city? Just drive through it sometime. Look at it's stats - as it is slated for Bankruptcy in less than a decade
To me, if you want to make positive changes you have to start with a winning team. I see some good but also some very questionable choices. So how about it. Am I jumping the gun and being overly cautious or am I just reading too much into this "Transition Team"? I personally would like to see many changes in the next eight years, but Governors have to remember who and why they were put into office.

    The People will be watching.

Sorry, Democrats: The GOP's Landslide Victory Wasn't Due to Low Voter Turnout

Many on the Left have sought to diminish the midterm election results, citing low voter turnout to throw cold water on the notion that Republicans won a mandate in their Election Night romp. President Obama himself attempted to address the electoral results through this prism, going out of his way to note that 'two-thirds' of voters failed to cast ballots in his first post-election press conference:

Liberals' preferred story instantaneously shifted from "there will be NoWave," to "that wave doesn't really count because no one voted." Obama's message implied that a small minority of Americans threw his party out of office, while many people stayed home out of disillusionment with politics in general. Three pieces of empirical data debunk this narrative. Item one:

Black Leaders Shamefully Silent on Obamnesty

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) are endorsing President Obama’s amnesty for illegal immigrants, as they endeavor to maintain the fiction that the Democratic Party is aligned with the needs of the black community and maintain their own positions within the political power structure.

In reality, the failure of these organizations to examine the repercussions of the Executive Order on the black community is one more piece of evidence that black so-called “leaders” only care about the black community in order to keep the “racist meme” alive.

First and foremost, the average black person’s employment opportunities are jeopardized by the President’s order. According to data compiled by the U.S. Department of Labor, more than 20 percent of black people between the ages of 20 and 24 are unemployed and more than 30 percent of black people between the ages of 18 and 19 are unemployed. These rates have risen to their current level under the Obama administration, while black homeownership rates and median income have also fallen.

In many economic segments, the projected 5 million new workers will be competing directly for already scarce employment opportunities leaving a very real possibility that the economic status of blacks will decline further.

Al Sharpton: Racism To Blame For His Unpaid Tax Bills

Professional race baiter Al Sharpton owes a lot of money in back taxes to state and local governments in New York. How much? According to The New York Times , it’s $4.5 million – although Sharpton claims he only owes $800,000.

Either way, we’re talking about some serious cheddar …

The thinking is that Sharpton’s debt to the government is $4.5 million and the $800,000 figure he cites is what he’s negotiated with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to avoid being imprisoned.

Not surprisingly Sharpton – whose entire existence is devoted to inflaming racial tensions – views the whole situation as racially motivated. In fact in addressing the “misleading and totally out of context” reporting of the Times – one of America’s liberal media icons – he claims the criticism against him is due to the fact Barack Obama (a black man) is America’s president.

“A lot of people don’t like the fact that President Obama’s the president,” Sharpton told reporters this week.

A Letter To The Editor: Today's Daily Times Edition - Front Page shows Conway/ Anderton, Mathias/ McDermott

    Hi Joe

On this mornings edition of The Daily Times it profiles the campaign expenses of the incumbents, Norman Conway and Jim Mathias. It shows a full front page display - of the disparity in spending by the incumbents over their rival Republicans.

    http://www.delmarvanow.com/story/news/local/maryland/2014/11/21/maryland-campaign-finance-reports-conway-big-spender/19338073/

IMHO - The Daily Times missed the mark!! They continue to discount the effectiveness of SBYnews - as it was SBYnews that took the campaign fight to the public forefront.

    Just yesterday - I was in a Salisbury manufacturer's office and the secretary was reading SBYnews on the office computer. She looked at me and said;

'You know what I think helped to swing the November 4th election - I truly believed that there are a lot more people reading SBYnews than you could possibly imagine and now you are seeing the results.'

Leaked WH Amnesty Document: Obama to Fast Track Green Cards, Access to Govt. Benefits

President Barack Obama will fast track green cards--or legal permanent residency in the United States--in his planned executive amnesty for illegal aliens that he will announce on Thursday evening, a leaked document published by a liberal group shows.

The document says that for illegal aliens who get what the administration calls “relief from deportation,” that the Obama White House is “reducing the time that families are separated while obtaining their green cards.”

“Undocumented immigrants who are immediate relatives of lawful permanent residents or sons or daughters of US citizens can apply to get a waiver if a visa is available,” the White House document, published by the National Immigrant Youth Alliance—a pro-amnesty group—ahead of its scheduled release at 6 p.m., reads.

“The President’s Immigration Accountability Executive Actions are an important step to fix our broken immigration system,” the document’s introduction reads. “Millions of undocumented immigrants who live in the shadows but want to play by the rules and pay taxes have no way to correct their immigration status under the law. That’s why the President is taking immediate action to fix as much of the problem as he can while continuing to work with Congress to pass a comprehensive, bipartisan immigration reform bill.”
