The CIA is polygraphing its operatives on a regular basis in an “unprecedented” effort to prevent Benghazi secrets from leaking out, CNN’s Drew Griffin is reporting, citing unnamed inside sources.

“Since January, some CIA operatives involved in the agency’s missions in Libya, have been subjected to frequent, even monthly polygraph examinations, according to a source with deep inside knowledge of the agency’s workings,” the bombshell report reveals. “The goal of the questioning, according to sources, is to find out if anyone is talking to the media or Congress.”

Top Republicans woke up Tuesday morning to the news that President Obama was offering what he described as a “grand bargain,” offering lower tax rates in exchange for closing certain loopholes for big business. GOP leaders view Obama’s proposal as a regression from previous negotiations, however, and are working to swat down early press reports that describe it as a significant conciliatory gesture.

“Not a ‘bargain,’ let alone ‘grand,’” read the first GOP press release at 9:24 a.m. from Boehner spokesman Michael Steel. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell followed about an hour later on the Senate floor, ripping the proposal and saying that even offering it was “a serious blow” to chances “for true bipartisan action in Washington.” Throughout the day, congressional Republicans nearly universally panned Obama’s “offer.” Senator Richard Burr of North Carolina laughed mockingly at the notion Obama was offering a “grand bargain,” telling me it was just “the same old repackaged stuff coming out in another campaign speech.”

Armed Agents Kill Harmless Baby Deer In Raid

“It was like a SWAT team. Nine DNR agents and four deputy sheriffs, and they were all armed to the teeth,” animal shelter employee Ray Schulze told WISN-TV.

E-mails Suggest Collusion Between FEC, IRS To Target Conservative Groups

Embattled Internal Revenue Service official Lois Lerner and an attorney in the Federal Election Commission’s general counsel’s office appear to have twice colluded to influence the record before the FEC’s vote in the case of a conservative non-profit organization, according to e-mails unearthed by the House Ways and Means Committee and obtained exclusively by National Review Online. The correspondence suggests the discrimination of conservative groups extended beyond the IRS and into the FEC, where an attorney from the agency’s enforcement division in at least one case sought and received tax information about the status of a conservative group, the American Future Fund, before recommending that the commission prosecute it for violations of campaign-finance law. Lerner, the former head of the IRS’s exempt-organizations division, worked at the FEC from 1986 to 1995, and was known for aggressive investigation of conservative groups during her tenure there, too.
“Several months ago . . . I spoke with you about the American Future Fund, a 501(c)(4) organization that had submitted an exemption application the IRS [sic],” the FEC attorney wrote Lerner in February 2009. The FEC, which polices violations of campaign-finance laws, is not exempted under Rule 6103, which prohibits the IRS from sharing confidential taxpayer information, but the e-mail indicates Lerner may have provided that information nonetheless: “When we spoke last July, you had told us that the American Future Fund had not received an exemption letter from the IRS,” the FEC attorney wrote.

Cool Temps Result In 37% Decline In Ocean Rescues So Far This Summer

OCEAN CITY -- After six drowning deaths during the month of July in waterways across Maryland, state officials this week issued a dire warning to swimmers to exercise caution, but a variety of factors including cool ocean water temperatures and the lack of rip currents have kept Ocean City conspicuously absent from the list of fatal incidents.

The tragic drowning of a 25-year-old Delaware man in the Susquehanna River last weekend was the sixth in Maryland during the month of July and the 12thoverall for the year to date, doubling the number over the same period last year. However, despite the hundreds of thousands of residents and visitors enjoying the ocean and back bays in the resort, Ocean City has not seen a single drowning accident this season.

Congressional Black Caucus Wants Sheila Jackson Lee For DHS Secretary

The Congressional Black Caucus has suggested that Barack Obama replace the outgoing Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano, with a woman who may be the least qualified person ever to be suggested for a nationally important post: Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee.
CBC Chairwoman Rep. Marcia Fudge, an Ohio Democrat, wrote Obama on July 25 to suggest Lee’s selection. She said, “Representative Jackson Lee would serve as an effective DHS Secretary because she understands the importance of increasing border security and maintaining homeland security. As Chairwoman, Representative Jackson Lee supported increased airplane cargo inspections and increased security for railroads, issues of great importance to the security of this nation and its citizens.."

The Department of Homeland Security has lost track of more than 1 million individuals who entered the U.S. but may not have left when they were supposed to, according to a government watchdog agency.
Homeland Security is required to track and report foreign visitors granted entry to the U.S., but lacks a way to verify that they have left the country, the Government Accountability Office said Tuesday. Federal law requires the department to use biometric data — such as fingerprints — to track visitors, but such a system is years overdue from being put in place.

Clinton Leads 2016 Poll In Iowa, But Rand Paul Is Close

But as far as the pollsters are concerned, the 2016 race is underway. And Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul is certainly acting like he's in the race.

The latest poll out of Iowa has former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton beating Florida Sen. Marco Rubio handily (48 vs. 37 percent), but could face a tougher race against Senator Paul (46 vs. 42 percent), according to a new poll by Quinnipiac University.

The poll says that Iowa voters would give the race to either Senator Rubio or Senator Paul, if the Democratic Party candidate was Vice President Joe Biden.

Public School Textbook Filled With Muslim Bias?

 

A world history textbook being used in Florida public schools is raising serious concerns over its alleged Islamic bias. The textbook, used in ninth grade Advanced Placement classes in Brevard County for the past three years, is now under review by the school board.

The book contains an entire chapter devoted to “Muslim Civilizations.” Sean Hannity noted that it has zero chapters on Christianity or Judaism. The chapter teaches about the Prophet Muhammad and how he became God’s messenger. It even describes jihad as a “holy war to defend Islam […] much like the Crusades to defend Christianity.”

Fox News Radio’s Todd Starnes has obtained a copy of the textbook. He told Hannity, “Through the entire chapter, Sean, Islam is defended. They talk about how wonderful Islam is to women. I mean, you’d think that they were having Victoria’s Secret stores over there.”

CARSON: Why Boycotting Florida Would Hurt Everybody In The Wake Of The Zimmerman Verdict

Recent calls to impose an economic (or in the case of celebrities, a personal) boycott on the state of Florida because of dissatisfaction with the verdict in the George Zimmerman trial need to be reconsidered. Certainly, boycotts can be powerful weapons, especially in a free-market economy. However, they need to be utilized appropriately and with great wisdom rather than in a reactionary way without thorough consideration of the ramifications.

In the mid-1950s, Montgomery Ala., was a bastion of racism. One of the manifestations of systemwide discrimination against blacks was the rule that blacks had to sit in the back of the bus — even though they paid the same fare as everyone else. This long-standing tradition was tolerated but despised by generations of hard-working black citizens, who had grown accustomed to being treated unfairly. Fortunately, a young, very wise leader appeared on the scene and, at a series of church rallies, was able to explain to the black community the economic power they possessed if they collectively decided to withhold those bus fares and walk or carpool. They also boycotted many unfair merchants throughout the city. Initially, those being boycotted tried to pretend that this would have no impact whatsoever on them, but Dr. Martin Luther King and other wise leaders held the boycott together month after month until the racist establishment yielded to economic pressure and changed their de facto rules.

Limbaugh: Republicans Want A New Base Without Tea Party

The Republican Party wishes the tea party would go away, and would prefer a new base altogether, says conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh.

In an hourlong interview with Fox News Channel's Greta Van Susteren Tuesday, Limbaugh said the Republican leadership isn't conservative.

"They're not particularly crazy about conservatives," he said, adding that members of the tea party can't be controlled by the GOP leadership. In 2010, the grassroots movement rose up in opposition to President Barack Obama, but the Republican establishment didn't embrace them.

Long-Time Commissioner Recovering From Broken Neck

OCEAN CITY -- Less than a week after a fall left her in the hospital with a broken neck, Worcester County Commissioner Louise Gulyas is on the road to recovery.

“We received the results of the Myelogram yesterday and it appears that the break in C2 is a straight line and yet her neck is still aligned,” wrote her son Thom Gulyas in an email to local media and friends of the commissioner. “This is really good news for sure.”

It was only last Friday that Louise Gulyas, who was elected as a commissioner in 1998, slipped in her Ocean City condo after lunch with some friends. The fall left her unconscious through that afternoon and she was found the next morning by her son after she failed to appear for a scheduled outing. The commissioner spent more than 18 hours on the floor of her condo.

The Ocean City Police Department, in coordination with National Association of Town Watch, will be celebrating the 30th Annual National Night Out program on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fiesta Park in Caine Woods and Gullway Villas on Lark Lane.  National Night Out began as an effort to promote police and community partnerships and now involves over 37 million people in 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide.

The Ocean City Police Department is partnering with two neighborhood watch associations in Ocean City to bring crime prevention awareness and community policing to the area. “National Night Out is a great way for us to continue to grow the Department’s relationship with the community,” said Chief Ross Buzzuro. “We believe that the number one crime prevention tool is having a great relationship with our community and this event really helps promote that.”

National Night Out, a yearlong community building campaign, is designed to heighten crime prevention awareness, generate support and participation in local anticrime programs and strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships. In addition, the program was developed to send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back against crime.

‘Super Playful’ Humpback Whale Fascinates

OCEAN CITY -- Passengers on a tour of Ocean City’s coast got a rare surprise this weekend when an energetic humpback whale approached a Paradise Watersports’ boat Saturday.

Though spotting sea life like dolphins, turtles and manta rays can be an almost daily guarantee when taking an ocean tour, encountering a humpback whale up close is decidedly less common, according to Paradise owner Tyler Barnes.
 
“We usually see a whale or two once during the summer season,” he said. “But usually off on the horizon. And we’re not usually able to identify what type of whale it is.”

Yes, Threats To Religious Liberty Happen Here

Advocates of same-sex marriage are classifying Biblical teachings as “hate speech.”

Some on the left are criticizing Senator Ted Cruz’s recent comments about how the drive to redefine marriage may threaten religious freedom — but a closer inspection of the issue reveals his worries were accurate, prescient, and maybe even too cautious.

In an interview with Cruz, David Brody of the Christian Broadcasting Network raised the concerns that many Christians are now expressing: “A lot of Christian scholars, when they talk about the marriage issue, they see it as a religious-freedom issue . . . as in essence going down this line toward potential ‘hate speech’ from the pulpit,” Brody said. In reply, Cruz pointed to problems abroad. “If you look at other nations that have gone down the road toward gay marriage, that’s the next step of where it gets enforced,” he said. “It gets enforced against Christian pastors who decline to perform gay marriages, who speak out and preach Biblical truths on marriage. That has been defined elsewhere as hate speech, as inconsistent with the enlightened view of government.”

OCEAN CITY POLICE ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR FALL 2013 CITIZENS POLICE ACADEMY

The Ocean City Police Department is currently accepting applications for the 2013 Citizen’s Police Academy. The Citizens Police Academy begins classes on September 3, 2013 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. and continues every Tuesday for ten weeks. The Citizen’s Police Academy is a component of the innovative citizen government education program known as “Ocean City University.”

The OCPD has been offering the citizens of Ocean City the unique opportunity to see the inner workings of the resort police department for nearly 15 years. During this course, students meet a variety of officers to learn about criminal law, traffic enforcement, evidence collection, firearms, arrest procedures, narcotics enforcement and many other topics. Students also participate in practical scenarios, which afford citizens hands-on opportunity to understand various law enforcement applications.

TENNESSEE VALLEY, (WHNT) - As the date for the beginning of Alabama’s new gun law draws near, many questions remain about what exactly the changes mean for residents who want to carry a gun.

Set to take effect on August 1, the bill clarifies some of Alabama’s existing gun laws and adds several new provisions for the carrying of a pistol.

When asked Wednesday what President Obama means by “phony scandals,” White House press secretary Jay Carney cited the Internal Revenue Service’s targeting of conservative groups and the Sept. 11 terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi.

“In his speech again yesterday, President Obama mentioned the ‘phony scandals’ that are part of an endless parade of distractions,” said CBS News’ Mark Knoller. “Can you tell us which phony scandals he’s talking about?”

Without the avuncular, "aw shucks," back-slapping, truth-speaking pol on the ticket, who knows if Obama could have won Ohio, Florida, Indiana, Virginia, or North Carolina?

So what does Obama do now that he has wrung every last drop of personal use out of old Joe Biden? He dumps him and endorses his most tenacious mortal enemy from the campaign, Hillary Clinton.

New NSA Leaks Show How Easily The Government Can See Almost Everything You Do On The Internet

National Security Agency documents provided to The Guardian by Edward Snowden reveal a system that, as of 2008, allowed analysts to search "nearly everything a typical user does on the internet," according to one document.
Glenn Greenwald reports that training materials for a program called XKeyscore show how analysts — without the review of a court or other NSA personnel — can mine extensive agency databases by giving only a broad justification for the search.

"It's very rare to be questioned on our searches," Snowden told the Guardian in June, "and even when we are, it's usually along the lines of: 'let's bulk up the justification.'"

Nutrient Shortages Hurt Local Infants, Area Hospitals

WASHINGTON - It sounds like a Third World problem: Hospitals are rationing, bartering and hoarding critical nutrients that premature infants need to survive. But it's a problem that's happening in the Washington area and in other major cities across the country.

In her article, "Children Are Dying," published in the May issue of Washingtonian Magazine, reporter Alexandra Robbins reports the nutrient shortage has been going on for about three years now.

"This is a national emergency, this is a public health crisis and the government isn't doing anything about it," Robbins says.

DO THESE EMAILS BETWEEN THE IRS AND THE FEC SUGGEST COLLUSION IN TARGETING CONSERVATIVE GROUPS?

A series of emails between a senior Internal Revenue Service official and an attorney in the Federal Election Commission’s general counsel’s office suggests the two agencies may have “colluded” in targeting conservative groups applying for tax-exempt status, according to a new report in National Review Online.

The report is based on emails obtained exclusively by NRO and the House Ways and Means Committee.

Correspondences between embattled IRS official Lois Lerner, who earlier this year invoked her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination, and an FEC attorney suggest “the discrimination of conservative groups extended beyond the IRS and into the FEC,” NRO’s Eliana Johnson wrote.

Lerner worked for the FEC from 1986 to 1995. She became famous within the agency for her “aggressive” investigation of conservative groups.

Government Statistics Hide The True Unemployment Rate

Government statistics are hiding the true unemployment rate.

While the Bureau Labor Statistics says the unemployment rate has been around 7.5 or 7.6 percent in recent months, it's really 14.3 percent.

Why the difference? The commonly cited unemployment number ignores people who want to work but are no longer actively seeking jobs and counts part-time workers as employed even if they'd prefer full-time jobs.

MOTOR SCOOTER COLLIDES WITH LARGE TRUCK

On July 31, 2013, at approximately 2:30 p.m. Ocean City police responded to the area of 84^th Street and Coastal Highway in reference to a motor vehicle collision involving a motorized scooter. The preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the scooter was attempting to pass bicyclists in the south bound bus lane on Coastal Highway when he veered into traffic in lane three and impacted the side of a large delivery box truck.

The victim, who was struck by the large delivery box truck, is being identified as a26-year-old male, from California, MD.  He suffered several life threatening injuries and was transported by Ocean City EMS to Peninsula Regional Medical Center and later transferred to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. 

At the time of this release, the scooter operator is listed in critical condition.  The driver of the motorized scooter was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.  Alcohol use by the driver of the scooter is believed to be a factor in this collision. There are no charges pending against the driver of the box truck.

A GROWING PROBLEM

While Mississippi (34.9%) and Louisiana (33.4%) have the highest percentage of obese adults, Bloomberg’s latest data shows that Delaware and Oklahoma are getting fatter the fastest of all US states. Notably, every state has seen an increase in the level of obesity since 2000 (though D.C. and California have risen the least). Experts say most people should give themselves a good two years to recover from a job, divorce, or other major life stressor, according to a surprising new report in The Wall Street Journal. It may take even longer if the event was unexpected — such as a firing or the sudden death or divorce of a spouse.
That’s more time than most people would think, says Prudence Gourguechon, a psychiatrist in Chicago and former president of the American Psychoanalytic Association. The reason: Once you get over the initial shock of the change, there is usually a period of "identity crisis process" during which it is normal to feel depressed, anxious, and distracted.

Brown Wins Backing Of Veterans Group In Maryland Gubernatorial Race

Maryland Lt. Gov. Anthony G. Brown (D) picked up an endorsement of his 2014 gubernatorial bid Wednesday from a national veterans organization.

The backing of VoteVets.org served to highlight Brown’s military service — part of his rsumthat his campaign routinely touts — and could help with fundraising efforts. The group, which claims 360,000 members nationwide, seeks to elect veterans to public office, particularly those who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Brown is an Army Reservist who was deployed to Iraq in 2004 while a member of the House of Delegates representing Prince George’s County. His military career began while a a student at Harvard University when he enrolled in the Reserve Officers Training Corps.

‘Jetman’ Makes US Debut High Above Wisconsin

Yves Rossy, the Swiss pilot who entered the history books as the first and only person in aviation history to fly with a jet-propelled wing , has brought his death-defying stunts to the United States for the first time, flying high above Wisconsin right next to a B-17 bomber.

Rossy, 53, the self-described “Jetman,” flew as high as 4,500 feet in his custom-made, jet-propelled wingsuit at the Experimental Aircraft Association’s AirVenture show in Oshkosh this week.

‘Jetman Flies High Above Rio de Janeiro

Rossy Tuesday clocked speeds as high as 160 mph alongside the B-17 bomber as aviation fans watched in awe below.

“You know, that’s the Super Bowl of aviation here,” Rossy said. “It was absolutely fantastic to fly so freely.

“It was absolutely impressive for me. What I’m doing as ‘Jetman,’ it’s really gratifying.”

O’Malley Reports Nearly $500,000 Raised For His PAC During First Six Months Of The Year

Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley on Wednesday reported raising nearly $500,000 for his political action committee since the start of the year, a stretch during which he was more focused on fundraising for other Democratic candidates, aides said.

O’Malley (D), who is term-limited in Maryland, has used his O’ Say Can You See PAC as a vehicle to build national exposure and pay for a small cadre of political advisers as he weighs a 2016 presidential bid. If he moves forward, early fundraising ability will soon become one of the key tests he faces.

O’Malley is also serving this year as finance chairman for the Democratic Governors Association, a group he formerly led. In his current capacity, he made several trips around the country during the past six months, helping the DGA raise a reported $15 million.

Federal Court Says Phone Location Records Aren't Protected By The Constitution

A federal appeals court has ruled that authorities don't need a search warrant to access your phone's location records.
According to AP's Juan Lozano, the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that phone location data are business records and not the property of mobile subscribers.

This means that authorities don't need probable cause if they want to get a person's location data — they just need a court order requesting the business records from that person's cell phone provider.

While a court order still requires authorities to demonstrate that the records are connected to a specific investigation based on "reasonable grounds," the requirements are far less stringent that those for a search warrant.

Rising Sea 4: Storm Losses Pose Enormous Risk For Baltimore Port

Before Tropical Storm Isabel made landfall in September 2003, cranes were laboring under a clear blue sky, rushing to move cargo off flatbed trucks onto the Patagonia, the last container ship to head out of the Port of Baltimore before it closed for two days.

Outside, a skeleton crew worked, awaiting the arrival of Isabel’s powerful winds and drenching rain. Inside, Barbara McMahon, manager of safety, environment and risk management at the Maryland Port Administration, oversaw the tasks detailed in the port’s hurricane preparedness plan. Among them: tying down cranes, securing containers and mooring vessels.

Inner Harbor waters after Isabel rose more than 8 feet above normal levels and flooded terminal piers but did not reach any of the billions of dollars worth of cargo or equipment. The port had fared well.

The Eastern Shore Pregnancy Center in Salisbury will be providing free ultrasounds from Saturday, August 3, through Thursday, August 8, to women who are between their fifth and twentieth weeks of pregnancy. This free ultrasound exam will not only enable expecting moms to meet their unborn child for the first time, and take home a picture of them, it will also provide an opportunity for the Pregnancy Center nurses to complete their ultrasound training under the supervision of a registered ultrasonographer and medical professional.

Ripken To Hold News Conference On Mother's Kidnapping

Just over a year after his mother was kidnapped from her Aberdeen home, Cal Ripken, Jr., is due to appear at a news conference Thursday morning in Baltimore to discuss the as of yet unsolved case.

Officials from the Aberdeen Police and the Baltimore bureau of the FBI are scheduled to join Ripken at the news conference.

John Walsh, the former host of "America's Most Wanted" is also attending the news conference.

San Antonio Proposal Could Bar Christians From City Council

Churches across San Antonio are expressing outrage over a proposed anti-discrimination law that would protect LGBT workers but would not provide a religious exemption and would effectively prohibit anyone who opposes homosexuality from holding public office or getting a city contract.

The proposed change would add “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” to the city’s discrimination ordinance. It would protect gays, lesbians, transgender, and veterans – a move that had critics accusing the council of playing politics with the military.

“No person shall be appointed to a position if the city council finds that such person has, prior to such proposed appointment, engaged in discrimination or demonstrated a bias, by word or deed, against any person, group or organization on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran status, age or disability,” the ordinance reads.

Critics argue that the ordinance could ban Christians who believe homosexuality is a sin from serving on the city council.

They also believe the ordinance would also ban the city from doing business with anyone who fails to espouse politically correct views and businesses run by people of faith would be subject to criminal penalties if they refused to provide services that conflict with their religious beliefs related to homosexuality.

“It’s extremely dangerous,” said Ken Klukowski, of the Family Research Council. “This is a flagrant violation of the U.S. Constitution and the San Antonio City Council looks like a bunch of anti-Christian activists.”

Klukowski said if the council approves the ordinance they would be guilty of “viewpoint discrimination.”
