Worcester County Sheriff’s Office Press Release

In July 2012, members of the Worcester County Criminal Enforcement Team began a Heroin distribution investigation and identified Tony Lamont Mills, Age 32, of Berlin, Maryland who was distributing Heroin throughout Northern Worcester County. During the course of this investigation several purchases of Heroin were made from Mills. As this investigation progressed, an undercover Detective from the Criminal Enforcement Team was able to conduct two hand to hand purchases of Heroin directly from Mills on two separate occasions. It should be noted that during one of these hand to hand purchases of Heroin, Mills conducted this transaction while holding an infant child on his chest. It was also learned that Mills was also wanted on a Parole Retake Warrant from the Department of Corrections and a Violation of Probation Warrant from the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office. The Ocean City Police Department Narcotics Unit assisted the Criminal Enforcement Team throughout this investigation.

As a result of this investigation, Detectives authored a search and seizure warrant for a residence located on Elizabeth Street, Berlin, Maryland, where Mills was residing. On August 31, 2012, members of the Criminal Enforcement Team executed this search and seizure warrant utilizing the Berlin Police Department SWAT Team. Mills was subsequently apprehended while attempting to hide in a closet inside of the residence. A search of the residence revealed 6.8 grams of marijuana and additional six bags of Heroin along with a loaded .32 caliber revolver. A total of 28 bags of Heroin was recovered over the course of this investigation totaling approximately 2.8 grams. Mills is prohibited from owning and/or possessing a firearm as a result of a previous conviction of a disqualifying crime. This loaded .32 Caliber handgun was located in the closet where Mills was taken into custody. Additional items of evidentiary value was also seized from the residence. Mills was subsequently transported to the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office where he was charged with the following offenses:

On View Charges:

· Possession of Marijuana – 1Ct.
· Possession of Heroin – 3 Cts.
· Possession with intent to Distribute Heroin – 1 Ct.

Why My Doctor Hates Obamacare

Lawmakers in D.C. may truly be committed to improving America's health-care system. But according to actual physicians, our leaders are going about it all wrong.

Want real health reform that is in the interest of you and your family? Don't make the same mistake that Washington did. In formulating ObamaCare, the politicians listened to lobbyists, policy wonks, academics, health theorists, regulators, and occasionally to each other.

But they failed to listen to the people who actually care for patients: Doctors. Granted, the lobbyists for physician groups were at the table, but not the doctor him or herself. Ironic, isn't it? Especially when it's the doctor who has the daily responsibility of directly caring for the patient.

Go ahead, ask your physician at your next visit what she or he thinks of current Washington-directed reform and its impact on the doctor-patient relationship. What you hear will likely surprise you, because it will likely be markedly different from what you hear from Washington. The policy theorists are simply too far removed from the reality of front-line patient care. Health reform, whether via the implementation of ObamaCare or the GOP's "repeal and replace" plan, should no longer ignore the input and counsel of experienced, front-line, practicing doctors.

Here is a sampling of what my own internist, who has taken care of thousands of patients over the past 20 years, shared with me:

Social Security Administration Defends Ammunition Purchase

A solicitation for ammunition by the Social Security Administration has sparked dark theories on Internet sites. Social Security said it's purchasing 174,000 rounds of ammunition for its inspector general staff. Federal IGs have law enforcement authority. At Social Security, they make about 600 arrests every year. A spokesman said most of the ammunition is used at the shooting range. One conspiracy-oriented website speculated the agency was preparing for civil unrest.

There's A New Third Party In America: REALITY

Meet the new third party in national politics: Reality.

Reality is the only party with an agenda consistent with what is actually happening in the world. Reality doesn't need to drum up dollar donations from anyone. Reality doesn't have to pander to any interest group or subscribe to any inane belief system. Reality doesn't even need your vote. Reality will be the winner of the 2012 election no matter what the ballot returns appear to say about the bids of Barack Obama and Mitt Romney to lead the executive branch of the government.

Md. Company Breaks Record For World's Largest Crab Cake

Talk about a jumbo crab cake -- Maryland's Handy International, in Salisbury, broke the world record for baking the largest crab cake over Labor Day weekend.

The company had to top the current record it set in 2011 at 253 pounds. This time around, the crab cake chefs made a larger pan that weighed as much as the ingredients themselves, according to a news release. The pan had a 3-foot diameter, was 7.5- inches deep and 210 pounds. It was designed by Handy's Regional Sales Manager Jim Cupp.

25 Questions About What The Hell Has Happened To America

When did...
1) ....Educated people become so unfamiliar with small business that they began to believe that a company will practically build itself   as long as the government provides roads, street signs, and police?
2) ...Freedom change from something we should all be seeking to something we're supposed to be terrified to face without the government holding our hands?
3) ...We stop asking, "Can we afford this?" along with "Is this a good idea?" when it comes to government programs?
4) ...Demanding that people come to this country legally if they want to stay here and become citizens become too much to ask?
5) ....We start rewarding victims so richly for victimhood that we have to wonder if every unseen hate crime is real or a staged charade to receive public sympathy  ?

Israeli "Skunk" Fouls West Bank Protests

Imagine taking a chunk of rotting corpse from a stagnant sewer, placing it in a blender and spraying the filthy liquid in your face. Your gag reflex goes off the charts and you can't escape, because the nauseating stench persists for days.

This is "skunk", a fearsome but non-lethal tool in Israel's arsenal of weapons for crowd control. It comes in armored tanker trucks fitted with a cannon that can spray a jet of stinking fluid over crowds who know how to cope with plain old tear gas.

While the army calls skunk an attempt to minimize casualties, rights groups dismiss it as a fig-leaf for the use of deadlier force against protesters in the occupied West Bank.

NICKELODEON STANDING BY CYBER BULLY JASON BIGGS

Nickelodeon, the kids’ TV channel, apparently sees no problem with directing children to the Twitter feed of one of its voiceover stars, Jason Biggs – even if Biggs tweets reprehensible things about the anuses of conservative political women like Janna Ryan, wife of VP candidate Paul Ryan. It would be difficult to describe Biggs’ tweets as anything other than the worst sort of cyberbullying. But Nickelodeon doesn’t seem to care.

They don’t seem to care, even though one of their biggest initiatives is their Anti-Bullying Initiative  . The website for that initiative insists, “Bullying doesn’t have to happen in person. Sometimes bullies will say hurtful things on the Internet. It’s important to also learn about cyberbullying!” Not only that – Nickelodeon encourages you to “Stand up for someone that you see being bullied and tell an adult about the problem.”

Politics, Not Leadership, Reigns In SBY

SALISBURY, MD – Last week we outlined Salisbury mayor Jim Ireton’s actions regarding the $1.4 million FEMA grant for the fire department. In Jimmy Ireton’s world, scoring cheap political points far outweighed public safety. One week has passed. We are one week closer to next spring’s city elections. Ireton is pulling another cheap political stunt.

This week we are told that Ireton is seeking to raise the annual salaries of Salisbury police officers by approximately $4,000. Is he really? Sadly, NO. Instead, the brave, hard working men and women of the Salisbury PD are being used as so many political footballs.

While Ireton and councilwoman Laura Mitchell bask in the Obamaesque glow of the Democrat National Convention and help to cement their places as Salisbury’s liberals-in-chief, Ireton is attempting to play games with the lives of Salisbury’s police officers and the safety of its citizens. By refusing to provide the RESPONSIBLE members of the city council with basic information such as the city’s year end cash position and how much money was returned to surplus at the end of FY 2012, Ireton is again attempting to goad the council members into voting against this latest proposal. WHY? To score political points on Jimmy’s ROAD TO RE-ELECTION!

Citizens should ask a couple of questions questions:

Why wasn’t this matter addressed during the regular budget process?

How can the council agree to spend an additional $400,000 without knowing if the city can afford it or not?

This matter wasn’t addressed during the regular budget process because Ireton didn’t see a need. The city’s crime taskforce recommended that salaries be increased years ago. Ireton is the one who has refused to increase police salaries. In fact, when the council mentioned this in the past he threatened to veto any budget that increased police salaries. Councilwomen Laura Mitchell and Shanie Shields would not agree to a veto override because increasing salaries for police officers “wasn’t fair” to other city employees.

Ireton only saw a need to raise police officers’ salaries AFTER the city council announced its intent to meet with police chief Barbara Duncan to discuss the recent departure of several officers and question her on department morale. Again, Ireton is far more concerned about the politics of the situation that the morale of Salisbury police officers or the safety of Salisbury’s citizens.

As to question two, the answer is simple – they can’t. This is Ireton’s backstop. He would much rather have a reason to call a press conference than to solve a problem.

U.S. Nears Deal For $1 Billion in Egypt Debt Relief: Source

The Obama administration is close to a deal with Egypt's new government for $1 billion in debt relief, a senior U.S. official said on Monday, as Washington seeks to help Cairo shore up its ailing economy in the aftermath of its pro-democracy uprising.

U.S. diplomats and negotiators for Egypt's new Islamist president Mohamed Mursi - who took office in June after the country's first free elections - were working to finalize an agreement, the official said.

Progress on the aid package, which had languished during Egypt's 18 months of political turmoil, appears to reflect a cautious easing of U.S. suspicions about Mursi and a desire to show economic goodwill to help keep the longstanding U.S.-Egyptian partnership from deteriorating further.

Teachers Unions' Alliance With Democratic Party Frays

Team Obama Tries To Spin Away What “Hope And Change” Means

At least in terms of when he was stating that he would bring a new era of “post-partisan” politics

(Washington Post) On the January night in 2008 when he won the Iowa caucuses, Barack Obama delivered a victory speech that would reverberate forcefully across a divided America. Iowans, he said, had come together — Democrats, Republicans and independents — to stand as one in calling for a new politics of unity and hope. It was a message that would help carry him to the White House 10 months later.

“You said the time has come to move beyond the bitterness and pettiness and anger that’s consumed Washington,” the then-senator from Illinois said that winter night in Des Moines. “To end the political strategy that’s been all about division and instead make it about addition. To build a coalition for change that stretches through red states and blue states. We are choosing hope over fear. We’re choosing unity over division and sending a powerful message that change is coming to America.”

Today Obama’s words sound quaint, even naive.

Will Obama Address “You Didn’t Build That” At Convention?

The Washington Post thinks the answer is “no”

After being pummeled for days at the Republican National Convention for his remark that business owners “didn’t build that,” President Obama heads to the Democratic National Convention in North Carolina this week facing mounting questions about how he will respond to charges that he is hostile to free enterprise.

On Sunday, senior Obama advisers suggested that they will not address the anti-business allegations directly but will instead try to turn the tables on their GOP rivals by accusing them of being dishonest about what Obama meant. David Plouffe, a senior White House adviser, said in an interview Sunday on ABC News that Republican Mitt Romney’s campaign is engaged in a broader pattern of dishonesty and is “built on a tripod of lies.” Plouffe cited accusations that Obama has gutted the work requirement for welfare and “raided” Medicare to pay for the nation’s new health-care law as other examples of untruths coming from the GOP.

Local Building Inspector Says There's NO Structural Problems With The Thrift Travel Inn

Joe,

I just took a drive around town on my lunch hour, and happened to be going by the Inn, so I stopped to see what all the fuss has been about. Reading the papers posted there, The city has gone from grass and weed violations to actually condemning the structure as unsafe. I went all around the building looking for the structural problems, and could find none. Not even peeling paint! There’s a little rotted spot on the canopy fascia board out front, but that’s all.

That’s when WBOC pulled up and wanted to put me on TV with my opinion for their story on tonight’s news. I politely declined and left.

Honestly, there’s nothing wrong with the building. It’s a saleable product. It did not commit any crimes! It’s up for auction for the highest bidder over $75k. Someone could buy that and have enough left over to turn it into an asset to the City. If people don’t want to spend the money to buy it, why should they be forced to pay to have it torn down? There are many, many, many Sperry Van Ness signs up in this town. Should city residents be forced to fork over the money to have ALL those vacant buildings torn down?

It just makes no sense.

Publishers Notes: Mayor Jim Ireton is on the Campaign War Path trying to put all kinds of pressure on the City Council with his feel good projects. You know, he'll clean the river so you can swim in it within 10 years kind of crap. I'll give Police Officers pay increases costing the taxpayers $400,000.00, yet he never mentioned it in this years budget proposal, nor last years or the year before that.

Jim Ireton wants to do things that simply COST the taxpayers. Don't forget his proposal last year to raise taxes, yet they had a $600,000.00 SURPLUS!!!!! Thankfully Debbie Campbell and the Council majority dug in deep enough to find that a tax increase was completely unnecessary.

Salisbury needs a new Mayor. We'll have to wait and see how WBOC twists this story for the Mayor.

PRESIDENT OBAMA ISSUES MAJOR ‘GREEN ENERGY’ EXECUTIVE ORDER

Between conservatives focusing all their attention on the successes/failures of the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., and the left having a meltdown over the supposed “racism  ” and unprecedented disrespect   of Clint Eastwood’s “Empty Chair” routine, little attention has been given to an executive order issued last Thursday by President Barack Obama that targets industrial “efficiency” and carbon emissions.
“Today, we are taking another step to strengthen American manufacturing by boosting energy efficiency for businesses across the nation,” said President Obama  .
“This action will cut costs, increase efficiency, and help our businesses create strong, middle class jobs.  We’ll continue to do everything we can to put more people back to work and build an economy that lasts,” he added.

Dear Mr. President, ROTFLMAO!

Obama Lies While Accusing The Romney Campaign Of Lying

Mr. Obama this week, for the first time, entered the fray. Campaigning on Tuesday on college campuses in Iowa and Colorado, he told thousands of supporters not to believe the opposition’s attacks because, “how do I put this nicely? They will just fib.” On Wednesday in Charlottesville, Va., he ramped up his complaint, winning applause from the estimated 6,500 people.

“Sometimes they just make things up. But they’ve got a bunch of folks who can write $10 million checks, and they’ll just keep on running them,” he said. “I mean, somebody was challenging one of their ads — they made it up — about work and welfare. And every outlet said this is just not true. And they were asked about it and they said — one of their campaign people said, ‘We won’t have the fact-checkers dictate our campaign. We will not let the truth get in the way.’”

Mr. Obama was referring, as many other critics of the Romney campaign have, to a comment that its pollster, Neil Newhouse, made to reporters at the Republican convention on Tuesday, dismissive of those faulting the campaign’s television ads. What Mr. Newhouse actually said was, “These fact-checkers come to those ads with their own sets of thoughts and beliefs. We’re not going to let our campaign be dictated by fact-checkers.”

Mr. Newhouse did not say, “We will not let the truth get in the way.”

THE FIVE BEST PICTURES OF EMPTY CHAIRS FROM THE EASTWOOD-INSPIRED #EMPTYCHAIRDAY TWITTER TREND

Clint Eastwood’s performance at the Republican National Convention last Thursday sparked a raft of conflicted reactions from the political commentariat. Many liberals sneered at the speech as a grotesque bit of exploitative theater – Dirty Harry meets Honey Boo Boo – while others, including Bill Maher and Jon Stewart, applauded the speech for its comedic timing. Conservatives, too, had mixed reactions, with some bemoaning the speech’s potential for distraction on a night that should have belonged to GOP Presidential nominee Mitt Romney, while others found it hilarious and cutting in its unscripted genuineness.

Government Vehicle

Good afternoon Joe. My husband and I went to Walmart this morning and we saw a government plate vehicle in parking lot. I found that interesting. Thought okay maybe he is here on official business. So came out of Walmart only to see the government vehicle pull up to the front to load his family's groceries in the truck. Must be nice to bring government vehicle to the beach for holiday weekend while burning our gas. And they want to know why this country is broke.

Agenda 21' And Why Is The GOP Now Opposed To It?

One of the new additions to the Republican Party platform is opposition to Agenda 21. In its section on leadership in international organizations, the platform now reads, “We strongly reject the U.N. Agenda 21 as erosive of American sovereignty, and we oppose any form of U.N. Global Tax.” I’m glad they added this language to the platform, but I wonder how many people who voted in favor of this addition know what Agenda 21 is.

Agenda 21 is a plan put forth by the United Nations that seeks to implement “sustainable development.” Nebulous government-speak terms like “smart meters,” “smart growth,” “sustainable communities,” “greenways,” and my personal favorite, “social justice” all have to do with the U.N.’s Agenda 21. On the surface, sure they sound good. Why would we not be in favor of “smart” things and “sustainability?” Why would we not be in favor of “social justice?” They sound like things we could be in favor of, but what do they mean by them?

At the U.N.’s “Earth Summit” in 1992, George H. W. Bush was one of 178 world leaders who signed the Agenda 21 protocol and agreed with its goals. Maurice Strong was the Secretary General at this conference. He stated that “current lifestyles and consumption patterns of the affluent middle class – involving high meat intake, use of fossil fuels, appliances, home and work air conditioning, and suburban housing are not sustainable.”

Agenda 21 is all about environmental control. It seeks to ration natural resources in the same way that Obamacare will ration healthcare. Energy will be rationed based on the assumption that our government owns all resources including food, water and land. Local Agenda 21 initiatives will mandate certain appliances and outlaw others based on energy consumption, and your energy consumption will be monitored so that you don’t “go over your limit.” Homes and buildings will have to be built or rebuilt to meet new “green” building codes or else face hefty fines. It seeks to transition citizens away from rural areas and into cities. It wants to “wean” people off private vehicles (because of “dirty” fossil fuels) and have them start using public transportation like high-speed rail. Outdoor recreational activities will be restricted because those practices are not “sustainable.”

“Social justice” means the abolition of private property. Here’s an excerpt from a report published at the U.N.’s Habitat I Conference in 1976:

Land…cannot be treated as an ordinary asset, controlled by individuals and subject to the pressures and inefficiencies of the market. Private land ownership is also a principal instrument of accumulation and concentration of wealth and therefore contributes to social injustice; if unchecked, it may become a major obstacle in the planning and implementation of development schemes. The provision of decent dwellings and healthy conditions for the people can only be achieved if land is used in the interest of society as a whole.

It’s not fair that individuals own land or property. What will make it fair is if it is collectively owned. The United Nations wants to mandate global communism. They just don’t call it that. They call it “social justice.” And they’re going to execute “social justice” through “sustainable development.”

These things are already happening in our own country. Over 600 cities and counties across the U.S. have become members of ICLEI (International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives), “an international association of local governments as well as national and regional local government organizations who have made a commitment to sustainable development.” Check here to see if your town, city or county is a member.

In 1993, a year after Bush Sr. signed the Agenda 21 protocol, President Clinton issued an executive order that created the PCSD (President’s Council on Sustainable Development). This group made Agenda 21 public policy and sought to implement its goals at the local level through ICLEI. J. Gary Lawrence was an adviser to this council. He advised that people should not know about Agenda 21 because if they knew about it, they would be opposed to it:

Participating in a UN advocated planning process would very likely bring out many of the conspiracy-fixated groups and individuals in our society….This segment of our society who fear ‘one-world government’ and a UN invasion of the United States through which our individual freedom would be stripped away would actively work to defeat any elected official who joined ‘the conspiracy’ by undertaking LA21. So we call our process something else, such as comprehensive planning, growth management or smart growth.

And this is why we don’t ever hear about it. They control the language in media. Their agenda is shrouded in vague terms that could mean anything, and people are naïve enough to give them the benefit of the doubt. Since the creation of Clinton’s PCSD, Obama has issued executive orders creating similar and more expansive “councils” that work to further the U.N.’s agenda.

Tom Madrecki is a spokesman for Smart Growth America, another one of those Agenda 21 type organizations. He doesn’t like the fact that Agenda 21 is in the new Republican platform. He said, “The fact that it’s in the platform gives credence to something that just shouldn’t get any.” He’s concerned that such a mainstream position opposing Agenda 21 will only serve to stir dissent and will “continue halting beneficial conversations about community planning.” There’s another one of those buzz phrases…”community planning.”

It’s great that the Republican Party has officially taken a stand against the United Nations and its global communist agenda. I hope it stays in their platform, and I hope Romney and other elected republicans will work tirelessly to expose the U.N. for what they really are and to extricate the U.S. from the organization itself, thus restoring our national sovereignty.

Online Classes Make It Easy For Non-Va. Gun Owners

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia is issuing a rising number of concealed-carry gun permits to people who live in other states in a trend that may be helped along by online gun classes.

The commercial courses allow applicants to seek a permit from Virginia that is valid in their state, but without having to meet tougher requirements their home states may impose, such as firing a gun with an instructor.

Virginia State Police issued 1,632 concealed-carry permits to nonresidents through the first half of 2012, topping the previous year's total of 1,321 nonresident permits. There was no corresponding increase in demand for resident permits, with just under half the previous year's number reached by mid-2012.

Newspaper Or Nuisance?

Taking a stroll up and down the Downtown Plaza this morning I couldn't help but notice all of the soaking wet newspapers sitting outside just about every business along the way. Clearly the people inside who had them delivered Thursday of last week have no interest in even picking up the trash on the sidewalk. I thought about throwing them away but I didn't want to hear Joe Albero is throwing out Robinson's newspaper.

Its not as if you can even open the bag without getting soaked. Clearly people locally have no interest in this paper but it also begs to question if free weekly papers should be allowed to get thrown onto your property without request.

Mr. Robinson told me he's only had a few phone calls from people asking them not to deliver the paper, so far. Quite frankly I find that hard to believe but it is what it is.

On a personal side, I was somewhat excited about another local paper coming to town in the beginning. However, (truthfully) this paper seems to be like a teenie bopper soft news with a ton of pictures and even more police reports. Mr. Robinson, (as most would expect) has most of his own advertising from his businesses and very little outside advertising.

I give the paper 6 months before he finally gives up and realizes the overhead is way too much and people really aren't into Roller Derby Girl pictures every week. Of course this is just my own personal opinion but it is also backed by the lack of interest in the pictures above.

While they only have a lease until the end of this year, I'd expect they'll either be forced to move into his small building on the Plaza or simply close the doors. You have to at least give the guy credit for trying. Most people I talk to say they'd never support him because of the people he's hired. I did speak to one Daily Times employee who said Sarah Lake would NEVER get hired from ANY Main Stream Media source after the alleged phone spoof. John hired Sarah as his Executive Editor, claiming she's a really nice person. He went on to say that she was in another room when the call took place. Some people are just "Delusional".

The Problem With Barack

The problem with our inchoate president is not his policies. Throughout history, pseudo-centrist socialists, peddling feel-good, free-lunch crap, while millions of minions worship their messiah's brilliance...have often sought to dominate the discussion.

Yet this man seriously seems to believe he is a king, free to pick and choose the laws and statutes he will obey or enforce, duly empowered to impel or forbid action by executive decree, without legislative approval.

America is a republic. We elect representatives to do our bidding, to govern with the consent of the governed. We have a Constitution, which sets plainly the rules by which the branches of government interact and act on issues of importance, as well as the anomalies of the day.

Barack Obama may be the executive -- in a federal system comprising three equal branches of government: Executive, Legislative, and Judicial -- but he is not an emperor. He cannot make law. Or at least, he is not empowered by the Constitution to do so.

The $3,200,000,000,000 Question: Why Housing Has Much More To Drop Before It Bottoms

It is no secret that having failed repeatedly at the trickle down aspect of QE1, QE2, Op Twist 1, Op Twist 2 (and implicitly LTRO 1 and LTRO 2) as it pertains to the man in the street (if not the man in Wall Street, who was subject to 1-2 years of subpar bonuses which have since regained their upward trendline), the last effort the central planners of the world, and the administration, have is to furiously do everything in their power to reflate housing one more time, following what is already a triple dip in home prices ever since the December 2007 start of the Second Great Depression. Which is why month after month we get seasonally fudged, conflicted and outright manipulated data from various sources how housing has bottomed, for real this time, and things are finally looking up. Remember: with any con game, the key word is confidence, and the US consumers need to regain their confidence. Sadly, as the following very simple chart and accompanying explanation, the answer to the housing question is only one: there will be no housing recovery until much more debt is eliminated. $3.2 trillion to be precise. Everything else is merely fits and spurts of upward action predicated by easy money hitting the market either directly, or via the "REO-to-Rental" stimulus program du jour, which lasts for a few months then promptly evaporates.

A Letter To The Editor 9-4-12

Dear Editor,

I am responding to the discussions that have been posted about the current emergency evacuation plan for the eighth grade special needs students at Salisbury Middle School. I am the parent of one of the students. I would like to share my discussions and experience with the school’s administration and the BOE related to this matter.

There are currently three eighth grade students at Salisbury Middle School that use a wheelchair and/or walkers for navigation around school. The children’s current eighth grade core classes are located on the second floor of the building. The current emergency evacuation plan states that, in the case of a fire or other situation where students would need to exit the building, the three students will be taken to a rear stairwell which will serve as an area of refuge until fire department rescue.

Discussion about a plan for the safe and compassionate evacuation of our children is not a recent issue. This matter has been discussed on numerous occasions for over two years with administration personnel at the school and BOE personnel at supervisory levels. The last discussion about this matter was on May 24, 2012, where I was told “we are going to have the Salisbury Fire Department come over and do some training for our staff to look at issues with (pause) if we should have a fire in the building. The building is ADA certified so basically what we have been told by them is that what we would do if we had any student upstairs would be that they would go to the far window and that’s where the firefighters would get them out of the school…but what we are going to do is we’re going to have the Salisbury Fire Department, that’s right over here, come over and do some training for our staff in the fall”. This quote is taken from the transcription of the taped conversation, in my possession, of the May 24, 2012 meeting. This meeting was also taped by the school’s administration so the BOE has a record of the meeting conversation as well.

At the same meeting, I was also told that the fire company would come in August to check out the plan but that administration planned to have preliminary contact with the fire company before August. I was also invited to attend the August meeting with the fire department and was told that I would be contacted during the summer about the date and time. I was not contacted about a meeting and sent an inquiry email on August 21. I later learned that a meeting had been scheduled with the fire department, perhaps spurred by my August 21 email, for Monday, August 27, one day before school started for the eighth grade students. During a conversation on
Tuesday, August 28, I was told by the BOE Safe Schools Coordinator that the window
evacuation plan, discussed at the May 24, 2012, meeting had not approved by the fire
department. This leads me to believe that a discussion about an evacuation plan had never taken place with the fire department prior to the May 24 meeting. On May 24, I was told about the approved “window” evacuation plan but this plan was not approved by them at the meeting on August 27. The current “area of refuge” plan was apparently devised on Monday, August 27. No staff training has occurred or has been planned as of Friday, August 31. Two-way radios have not been distributed. Four days of school have elapsed.

Not only is a fail-safe evacuation plan needed immediately for the current disabled eighth grade students but for the disabled students that will follow in the coming years. There are currently disabled students in attendance at Salisbury Middle School in the sixth and seventh grades. These children will need a safe exit from the building in an emergency when they reach eighth grade. A permanent fail-safe alternative plan to the “area of refuge” plan was introduced at the parent meeting which took place on Thursday, August 30.

There are approximately 300 students in the school’s seventh grade class and 300 students in the school’s eighth grade class. Each class is assigned to a class team comprised of 150 students. Each class team of 150 students attends classes and outside events separate from the other class team. Each class team uses half of the classrooms on each floor. There are seven classrooms used by each team for their core classes. It was suggested that the seven classrooms on the second floor, currently being used by the eighth grade team which include the three
wheelchair/walker bound students, be switched with the identical seven classrooms located on the first floor of the building, currently used by a seventh grade team. The school has four emergency exits on the current first floor seventh grade wing. There are two emergency exits on the current second floor eighth grade wing.

Although administration and BOE have not taken the time to discuss this option with us, logistics of a classroom move at this time may be cited as problematic. We suggest that 1-2 classrooms are moved over the coming weekends. If moving costs are a deterrent to administration/BOE approval, volunteers will be on hand to assist with the move. How many volunteers are needed? If volunteer injury issues are a problem, injury waivers will be signed. In brief, class schedules can be changed by students from “E235” to “E135”, etc. or “E135” to “E235’, etc. Lockers can be switched to the identical location on the other floor.

All of this is an inconvenience to the students. It is a matter of safety for the current eighth grade disabled students and those disabled students that will follow in the coming years. The second floor evacuation plan for the wheelchair/walker bound students should have been addressed before the start of school. The “area of refuge” plan is a quickly devised plan, it is not fail-safe, and it is cold hearted.

Thank you to those who have shown their support for the re-location of my son and his disabled friends to the first floor of the building. Please stand with us as we continue our efforts to urge the administration and the BOE to make the right decision to institute a fail-safe evacuation plan for our special children.

‘MADE UP RELIGION’: TV HISTORIAN ENRAGES MUSLIMS, RECEIVES THREATS AFTER PRODUCING UK DOCUMENTARY QUESTIONING ISLAM’S BEGINNINGS

Television historian Tom Holland is receiving a multitude of criticisms and threats following his in-depth investigation into Islam. After examining the faith and its early texts, he came to some fascinating — and apparently enraging — conclusions in a documentary he produced for British television.
In a program called, “Islam: The Untold Story  ,”Holland claimed   that there is little evidence written surrounding the life of the Prophet Muhammad — the central figure in the Islamic faith. Additionally, he noted that the Koran makes only one reference to Mecca, the religion’s holiest city. These sentiments, of course, cast doubts upon Islam and are, thus, controversial to say the least.

1976 Redux?

The Mitt Romney nomination reminds me of the 1976 convention that nominated Gerald Ford. Back then, Ford’s fixers (Dick Cheney and James Baker III) did everything they could to eviscerate Governor Reagan’s supporters at the 1976 RNC – and then tried to “reunite” the GOP and try to recoup the Reagan supporters they had alienated, all to no avail.

It failed because it was sheer pretense, disingenuous on its face. Baker and his sidekick, David Gergen, hated conservatives as much as Ford hated Reagan. They hated especially the millions of “blue collar” Democrats who came to provide the backbone of the “social conservatives” that supplied Reagan’s winning margins in 1980 and 1984.

Ford was adamant and unrepentant about his loyalty to the Rockefeller-Bush establishment. He bragged in the 1990s that his proudest accomplishment was the appointment of Supreme Court Justice Stevens, who quickly became a left-wing stalwart on the court, to be joined there by George H.W. Bush appointee David Souter in 1990. Time after time, the GOP Hot-Tubbers have lied to traditional conservatives, gotten their votes, and then betrayed them.

The Triumph Of The Reich-Publican Party

"There’s nothing American about what just happened," protested Nevada Republican delegate Wiselot Rouzard after the convention refused to seat the delegation from Maine. "This is the death of the Republican Party."

What Wiselot and fellow Ron Paul delegates had experienced was a memorable display of the Republican Party’s fetid essence. The tactics employed by the GOP establishment to isolate, intimidate, and ultimately to expel Ron Paul delegates were the natural product of the party’s totalitarian genetics. By using criminal means to impose a monolithic, top-down process in which an entrenched oligarchy can re-write the rules to suit its whims, the Republican Party was simply living down to its odious pedigree.

ARE YOU BETTER OFF THAN 4 YEARS AGO?

Obama won by 9.5 million votes in 2008. Obama has managed to sign up 15 million people on food stamps since that time, adding to his 2012 cushion. Carter was in a similar position when he ran against Ronald Reagan, only Carter didn’t hand out free shit to anyone with pulse, and he was soundly crushed.

Obama has bought enough votes with free shit that his re-election should be assured. And, let’s not forget, the electoral college elects presidents, not ordinary folk. People will undoubtedly vote themselves more free shit. Nobody believes the economy is going to get any better, or jobs are going to fall from the sky like manna from heaven. The FSA has grown exponentially under Obama, and they are probably quite comfortable with free food, free money, free housing, healthcare and medicine. In 2012, free shit will reign. But, I’m interested to hear what you think.

CHICAGO TRENDSETTERS

CHICAGO—According to the nation’s tastemakers and trendsetters, the city of Chicago is currently wrapped up in a hot new murder craze, with murders occurring almost every day of the week, and sometimes happening well into the night. “The South Side, Cicero, and Englewood are some of the trendiest murder spots in the Windy City, with double or even triple homicides taking place on some of the hippest street corners and housing projects,” said trend expert Alyssa Mayrose, adding that while urban youths are at the cutting edge of the citywide craze, everyone, including middle-aged men and women, are getting caught up in Chicago’s “murder mania.” “Some of the über-hip, very exclusive murders are happening in little tucked away places, like in the back alley of Lloyd’s Lounge in Riverdale. But if you are out on the town and want to find a murder, believe me, you don’t have to look that hard. Bottom line: If you’ve got a gun or a knife and you want to kill someone, Chicago is the place to be right now.” Mayrose added that with the Chicago Police Department in complete and utter disarray, there is no indication that the cool, happening new trend of murdering people will end anytime soon.
