Harris Announces More Than $69,000 in Awards to Eastern Shore Small Businesses and Farms

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) announced $69,102 in awards through the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Office of Rural Development. The following businesses and farmers received awards on the Eastern Shore of Maryland: Choptank Corner LLC, in Cambridge, James B. Quinn, in Kennedyville, Rice’s Inc. in Salisbury, Smartech Electrical Inc, in Chestertown, Williamson Farms LLC, in Mardela Springs, and Wilson Farm, in East New Market.

The USDA allotted these awards under the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP). According to the USDA, “REAP funding can be used for renewable energy systems such as anaerobic digesters, biomass, geothermal, hydropower, wind and solar. It also can be used to make energy efficiency improvements to heating, ventilation and cooling systems; insulation; and lighting and refrigeration.”

Congressman Harris made the following statement:

“I understand the importance of economic growth in rural America and I support our local communities. As a member of the Agriculture and Rural Development Subcommittee of the Committee on Appropriations, I welcome this investment in the Eastern Shore to support our hardworking small business owners, employees, and farmers. These awards will save energy, reduce electricity bills, and help make the Eastern Shore more economically competitive.”

pork, aren't we in debt enough?

It is "pet" projects like this that put us in a huge National debt. Pork belly in an election year. It does seem like much once divided among these businesses. Don't forget Obama is receiving "royalties" for solar panels. Oh that's why Obama's are buying a vacation house in the Hamptons for 15 million dollars.

You can't be a real conservative and keep spending tax payers money like this. It's time to quit the spending except for absolutely necessary things.
