Military Services Report Low Readiness Levels as Russia, China Demand Increased Commitments

Audit: Pentagon does not have a comprehensive plan to rebuild readiness amid force, budget reductions

The U.S. military has reported persistently low readiness levels as threats from Russia and China have demanded increased American presence in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, according to a government watchdog.

The Pentagon lacks a comprehensive plan to rebuild readiness across the force as manpower and spending cuts have threatened the armed services’ preparedness for commitments abroad, concluded a Government Accountability Office report publicly issued on Wednesday.

The military services expect low levels of readiness to persist into the next decade, according to interviews conducted by auditors.

Governor Hogan Announces New Tablet Program for Low-Income Marylanders with Disabilities

"Telecommunications for All Week" in Maryland

ANNAPOLIS, MD –
Governor Larry Hogan today announced that Maryland Relay, a public service provided by the state to assist people who are unable to use a standard telephone to make and receive calls, is now accepting applications for no-cost tablets through the Maryland Accessible Telecommunications (MAT) program. The announcement coincided with the start of "Telecommunications for All Week" in Maryland, which lasts from September 11 through September 17, and reinforces the Hogan administration's commitment to expanding communications services for all citizens.

“Our administration is focused on finding ways to improve the quality of life for all of our citizens,” said Governor Hogan. “The tablet program is just the latest example of how we are working to ensure that all Marylanders, regardless of disability, are able to communicate with ease — an ability that many of us take for granted.”

The announcement comes on the heels of two telecommunications conferences held in Annapolis: the Telecommunications Equipment Distribution Program Association (TEDPA) Conference, which took place last week, and the National Association for State Relay Administration (NASRA) Conference, in progress through Wednesday.

Maryland residents who are unable to use a standard telephone due to a disability and who meet specific financial requirements are eligible to apply for a tablet computer. After an evaluation, approved applicants will receive a tablet from the State of Maryland that will come pre-loaded with software — including video chat or captioned telephone programs — to assist with telecommunication. The Maryland Board of Public Works approved the addition of tablets to the MAT program in June 2016, and tablets will begin to be distributed this month.

Today We Lost Someone Special

The following message came from my Wife, posted on her Facebook page. So well said Jennifer, thank you.

This is not a post about sorrow, even though we're so very sad. We lost an awesome family member today. Gavin's little cow dog Beatrice went over the Rainbow Bridge today.

And while we're devastated that our time with her was so short, she made a big impression on our lives. We adopted her at the ripe old age of 9. She wasn't a cute spunky puppy, she was a little old lady who snored loudly when she slept, passed horrible gas when you least expected it, demanded to sleep in bed with someone at night or she'd bark until she was lifted up in bed, snuggled wonderfully and was so overly animated when she smelled food cooking, that she was comical! She was a wonderful girl and we're going to miss her terribly....please consider adopting those not perfect but completely lovable old ladies and men. Your life will be forever changed for the better.... RIP Beatrice

11 State Attorneys General Side With ExxonMobil in Climate Change Case

Attorneys general in 11 states have filed an amicus brief siding with ExxonMobil in a climate change case brought against the company by Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey.

Healey, a member of AGs United for Clean Power, attended a March 29 press conference in New York with other attorneys general and former Vice President Al Gore.

At the press conference, New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced that “an unprecedented coalition” of state attorneys general from 18 states, the District of Columbia, and the Virgin Islands were taking legal action against companies like ExxonMobil that opposed President Obama’s Clean Power Plan and challenged the idea that human activity is causing catastrophic global warming.

Healey then issued a civil investigative demand (CID) for 40 years’ worth of ExxonMobil’s records to determine whether the company had violated her state’s consumer protection laws by not informing consumers and shareholders about the alleged dangers of global warming.

The 11 state attorneys general agreed with ExxonMobil that the CID is an encroachment on the company’s First Amendment rights.

Supervisor Of "Massive Fraud" At Wells Fargo Leaves Bank With $125 Million Bonus

There was a burst of righteous populist anger anger last week, when it emerged that Wells Fargo had engaged in pervasive, "massive" fraud since at least 2011, including opening credit cards secretly without a customer’s consent, creating fake email accounts to sign up customers for online banking services, and forcing customers to accumulate late fees on accounts they never even knew they had. For this criminal conduct, Wells was fined $185 million (including a $100 million penalty from the CFPB, the largest penalty the agency has ever issued). In all, Wells opened 1.5 million bank accounts and "applied" for 565,000 credit cards that were not authorized by their customers.

As "punishment" Wells Fargo told CNN that it had fired 5,300 employees related to the shady behavior over the last few years. The firings represent about 1% of its workforce and took place over several years. The fired workers went to far as to create phony PIN numbers and fake email addresses to enroll customers in online banking services, the CFPB said. What was hushed away is that not a single employee will go to prison, and that ultimately it will be Wells Fargo's shareholders - such as Warren Buffett - who will end up footing the bill.

What Wells did not disclose publicly to anyone is that the head of the group responsible for Wells' biggest consumer fraud scandal in years, is quietly leaving the bank with a $125 million bonus, a bonus which as Fortune's Stephen Gandelwrites today will not see even one cent clawed back as part of the dramatic revelations.

According to Gandel, Carrie Tolstedt, the Wells Fargo executive who was in charge of the unit where employees opened more than 2 million largely unauthorized customer accounts—a seemingly routine practice that employees internally referred to as “sandbagging”— is leaving the giant bank with an enormous pay day, some $124.6 million.

A Hyattsville, Maryland, man pleaded guilty today, just before trial, to conspiracy to participate in a racketeering enterprise known as La Mara Salvatrucha, or MS-13, including participating in a murder.

Assistant Attorney General Leslie R. Caldwell of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division; U.S. Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein of the District of Maryland; Special Agent in Charge Andre R. Watson of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI); Chief Hank Stawinski of the Prince George’s County, Maryland, Police Department; Chief Douglas Holland of the Hyattsville Police Department; and Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Angela D. Civil Rights Commission: ‘Religious Freedom’ Code Words for Intolerance, Homophobia, and ‘Christian Supremacy’

(CNSNews.com) – A new report by the United States Commission on Civil Rights supports the majority on the federal commission, who say that efforts to protect religious liberty and freedom are really a way for individuals and entities to discriminate against people who don’t share their beliefs.

“The phrases ‘religious liberty’ and ‘religious freedom’ will stand for nothing except hypocrisy so long as they remain code words for discrimination, intolerance, racism, sexism, homophobia, Islamophobia, Christian supremacy or any form of intolerance,” Martin Castro, chairman of the commission, said in a statement included in the 296-page report.

“Religious liberty was never intended to give one religion dominion over other religions, or a veto power over the civil rights and civil liberties of others,” Castro said. “However, today, as in the past, religion is being used as both a weapon and a shield by those seeking to deny others equality.

Their recommendations include:

• Federal legislation should be considered to clarify that RFRA creates First Amendment Free Exercise Clause rights only for individuals and religious institutions and only to the extent that they do not unduly burden civil liberties and civil rights protections against status-based discrimination.

CNN poll: Trump up 5 on Clinton in Ohio

Donald Trump holds a slight lead over Hillary Clinton in Ohio and Florida, according to new CNN polling that shows an increasingly tight race in the key battleground states.

In Ohio, Trump has extended his lead to five percentage points, with 46 percent of likely voters backing his candidacy to Clinton’s 41 percent. Third-party candidates Gary Johnson and Jill Stein lag behind at 8 and 2 percent, respectively. Results out of Florida shows an even tighter race, with voters split 47 percent for Trump and 44 percent for Clinton – within the poll's 3.5 percent margin of error – while the Libertarian ticket pulls in 6 percent of the vote to and the Green Party’s 1 percent.

The results echo an earlier Bloomberg Politics poll that also showed Trump leading Clinton by five in Ohio.

The polls come on the heels of one of Hillary Clinton’s worst general election stretches and show an increasingly competitive race with eight weeks to go before the election.

Maryland's Blue Crabs Attract Thieves, Illegal Harvesters

Maryland’s famed blue crabs are luring illegal harvesters and thieves, according to a review by the News4 I-Team.

Records obtained from the Maryland Natural Resources Police show investigators issued more than 3,300 citations or formal warnings to people poaching or illegally harvesting crabs since 2014. Some of the violations risk the livelihoods of the state’s professional watermen and future populations of crabs in state waterways.

In one of those cases in August, a judge convicted Robert Allen Dorrier of Pasadena for a string thefts of crabs from the pots of professional watermen on the Chesapeake Bay. Witnesses at Dorrier’s trial in Anne Arundel County District Court said he used a small green boat to approach and empty the pots. One witness, who declined to share his name with News4, said Dorrier was seen doing so just before 6 p.m. after the professional watermen left the area for the evening.

“He was going pot to pot every 30 seconds, taking the pots and throwing them back without closing the lids,” the witness said.

DOT FOODS PLANS EXPANSION IN WESTERN MARYLAND, 100 NEW JOBS

Dot Foods, the first and largest food industry redistributor in the nation, is expanding its operations in Washington County and plans to add 100 new jobs by 2023.

The company is scheduled to begin a two-phase project in spring 2017 and anticipates completing the expansion in 2019. The majority of the 100 new jobs will be high-wage warehouse positions for Dot Foods and Class A drivers for Dot’s trucking subsidiary, Dot Transportation, Inc.

“This expansion of space and workforce will allow Dot Foods Maryland to boost its capacity from the current 450 million pounds per year to 700 million pounds per year,” said Brian Duffield, Dot Foods’ Maryland general manager. “This expansion shows Dot’s continued commitment to the Williamsport and Washington County areas.”

Phase one of the project is scheduled to begin in early spring 2017 and will take place at a recently purchased property in Williamsport. Dot Foods will lease the location to Dot Transportation, Inc. where it will house a new truck maintenance facility. Phase two is slated to begin in spring 2018 at the company’s existing Williamsport facility and includes renovating the office, refrigeration, and freezer space and expanding the warehouse to add additional dry space. The company anticipates investing approximately $35 million to expand the distribution center by 100,000 square feet to a total of 350,000 square feet.

Brave bystander wounded, attacker killed as mother and baby rescued at Walmart

SHAWNEE, Kan. -- Were it not for two heroic strangers who risked their lives, a Kansas City mother and her baby may have not survived an attack in a Walmart parking lot. And most likely, neither would they.

It happened in Shawnee, Kansas, over the weekend, police told CNN.

Two men attacked the 39-year-old mother as she was putting her baby in a car seat. They struck her in the back of her head, said Shawnee police Maj. Dan Tennis.

Hearing the mother's screams, the brave bystanders rushed to help.

One was shot -- multiple times -- when one of the attackers, later identified as John W. Simmons III, pulled out a gun.

The second rescuer had a gun of his own and he fired back, killing Simmons, police said.

Lawyers For Gaines Estate Say Witness Account Differs From Police Narrative

Attorneys for the estate of Korryn Gaines contend that Baltimore County officers broke the law when they entered her apartment and when one officer fatally shot her during an August barricade.

Attorneys also say a neighbor overheard Gaines' exchanges with police, including police refusing to show her their arrest warrant. Attorneys say the neighbor heard Gaines tell police early in the encounter that if they put their guns down and backed up from her Randallstown apartment, she would surrender. Officers declined that offer, attorneys say.

Gaines was wanted on a bench warrant, and her boyfriend was wanted on a separate arrest warrant for assault. She pointed a gun at officers, leading to an hours-long standoff that ended when, police say, she told officers to leave or she would open fire. That's when an officer shot at Gaines, then she returned fire, leading an officer to fire the shot that took her life. The officer, under an agreement with the Fraternal Order of Police, has only been identified as Officer Ruby. Young Kodi Gaines was injured by a police round.

Firm Charged Hillary Clinton For Interviews With Feds

The Denver-based tech firm that worked on Hillary Clinton’s email server billed the candidate $250 an hour for interviews its employee gave to the FBI.

According to an invoice that the tech company, Platte River Networks (PRN), submitted last September to Clinton’s accounting firm, Marcum LLC., the payment was sought for interviews that PRN employee Paul Combetta gave to the FBI.

Politico reported last November that federal investigators interviewed PRN employees in September. The employees were not identified in the article.

One item on the invoice, which was obtained by the website Complete Colorado last year, is a $3,000 charge for 12 hours worth of work for Combetta, who is identified by name and by his initials on the invoice.

White Marlin Open Case Moved To Federal Court; Tourney Removed As Plaintiff

OCEAN CITY — At the request of the defendant, a Worcester County Circuit Court case that could ultimately strip the 2016 first-place White Marlin Open winner of his record $2.8 million payout and redistribute it to the winners in several other divisions was moved last week to U.S. District Court.

In late August, White Marlin Open (WMO) officials announced a potential rules violation could disqualify the winner in the white marlin division, a 76.5-pounder caught by angler Phillip Heasley on the Kallianassa out of Naples, Fla.

About two weeks after the 2016 tournament, WMO officials announced there appeared to be rules violations regarding the timing of the catch and that Heasley and three other individuals on the Kallianassa including the captain and two mates were deceptive on their answers to some of the questions during the requisite post-tournament polygraph examinations for the winners in major categories. In August, WMO officials, through attorney Joe Moore, filed a Complaint for Interpleader in Worcester County Circuit Court, essentially asking a judge to intercede and decide first if there were rules violations committed by Heasley and the Kallianassa crew, and secondly, if there were violations, how best should the $2.8 million in prize money be distributed to the winners in other categories.

Russian Navy Helps Chinese Train to Seize Islands in South China Sea

Chinese and Russian warships, aircraft and troops begin eight days of joint maneuvers in the South China Sea on Monday, including “joint island seizing” in an area where China and the U.S. repeatedly have sparred over freedom of navigation amid multiple territorial disputes.

It will be the sixth Russia-China naval exercise since 2012, but the first to be held in the South China Sea, among the most strategically important and hotly-contested waters on the planet.

People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) spokesman Liang Yang said the wargames would include “joint island seizing,” anti-submarine operations, as well as defense and rescue missions.

Missile and artillery live-fire drills, island landing, island defense and island offense exercises would be carried out, he said.

China claims sovereignty over virtually the entire South China Sea, including resource-rich areas that fall within the exclusive economic zones (EEZs) of surrounding nations. It has alarmed those countries and the U.S., by building and militarizing artificial islands in support of its claims.

The U.S. Navy continues to carry out what it calls “freedom of navigation” patrols in those waters, to Beijing’s publicly-expressed annoyance.

Wicomico County Waterman Loses Oyster License

Natural Resources Police Handle Poaching Violations and Others

Maryland Natural Resources Police officers handled oyster, striped bass and crab poaching violations and arrested a man on drug and stolen vehicle charges in recent cases.

***************************

A Wicomico County waterman had his commercial oyster license permanently revoked after a hearing in Annapolis by an administrative law judge.

Hans Eric Kuntze, 59, of Nanticoke, has until Sept. 29 to appeal the decision.

On June 28, Kuntze was seen dredging for oysters more than 200 feet inside the Nanticoke River Sanctuary by officers conducting surveillance. When he returned to the dock at Cedar Hill Harbor, officers inspected the seven and one-half bushels and found all the oysters to be of legal size.

Kuntze was given citations for harvesting wild oysters from a sanctuary, harvesting oysters in a closed season, failing to have his commercial license available for inspection and failing to have a proper waste container on board. The oysters were returned to the sanctuary.

At his hearing, Kuntze argued that one of the markers used to set the boundary of a lease area inside the sanctuary, where he had permission to harvest, was off its correct position. He also insisted that swift current could have pushed him into the restricted area.

"You're correct that we're seeing illegal migrants coming from Africa, coming from the Middle East," Johnson told host Chris Wallace. "And we're doubling down on preventing that happening before they even reach the Southwest border."

Tent Cities Full Of Homeless People Are Booming In Cities All Over America As Poverty Spikes

Just like during the last economic crisis, homeless encampments are popping up all over the nation as poverty grows at a very alarming rate. According to the Department of Housing and Urban Development, more than half a million people are homeless in America right now, but that figure is increasing by the day. And it isn’t just adults that we are talking about. It has been reported that that the number of homeless children in this country has risen by 60 percent since the last recession, and Poverty USA says that a total of 1.6 million children slept either in a homeless shelter or in some other form of emergency housing at some point last year. Yes, the stock market may have been experiencing a temporary boom for the last couple of years, but for those on the low end of the economic scale things have just continued to deteriorate.

Tonight, countless numbers of homeless people will try to make it through another chilly night in large tent cities that have been established in the heart of major cities such as Seattle, Washington, D.C. and St. Louis. Homelessness has gotten so bad in California that the L.A. City Council has formally asked Governor Jerry Brown to officially declare a state of emergency. And in Portland the city has extended their “homeless emergency” for yet another year, and city officials are really struggling with how to deal with the booming tent cities that have sprung up

The Fed Plans for the Next Crisis

It is up to us who know the truth to make sure the welfare-warfare state and the system of fiat money ends because the people have demanded it

In her recent address at the Jackson Hole monetary policy conference, Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen suggested that the Federal Reserve would raise interest rates by the end of the year. Markets reacted favorably to Yellen’s suggested rate increase. This is surprising, as, except for one small increase last year, the Federal Reserve has not followed through on the numerous suggestions of rate increases that Yellen and other Fed officials have made over the past several years.

Much more significant than Yellen’s latest suggestion of a rate increase was her call for the Fed to think outside the box in developing responses to the next financial crisis. One of the outside the box ideas suggested by Yellen is increasing the Fed’s ability to intervene in markets by purchasing assets of private companies. Yellen also mentioned that the Fed could modify its inflation target.

Lawmaker Subpoenas FBI For ALL Clinton Case Records

“Will the FBI provide to Congress the full file with no redactions of personal identifiable information?” Chaffetz asked Jason Herring, the FBI’s acting assistant director of legislative affairs, during a House Oversight and Government Reform hearing.

“I cannot make that commitment sitting here today,” Herring said.

Chaffetz has sought all of the records related to the FBI’s Clinton email investigation, including all interview notes, which are referred to as 302s. Earlier this month, the FBI released a heavily-redacted report of its conclusions from the investigation.

Gamblers Think There’s A Real Chance Hillary Drops Out Of The Race

Bettors on the popular predictions website PredictIt think there’s a real chance Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton will drop out of the race before November, as her fainting spell at the 9/11 Memorial caused a substantial downward shift in her odds of becoming president while boosting the odds of other Democrats

PredictIt allows users to bet on the outcomes of upcoming events, particularly political ones such as the presidential election or the voting result in individual states. Shares are sold at amounts ranging from 1 cent to 99 cents. If an event happens, the shares are cashed in for a dollar apiece, but if it doesn’t, they become worthless. As a result, an event’s price on PredictIt roughly reflects its perceived likelihood of happening.

Going into Sept. 11, Clinton shares in the presidential election were trading at about 72 cents apiece, but as soon as video emerged of her collapsing while trying to enter a van, the price of Clinton’s shares began to tumble. At day’s end, they were selling for 64 cents apiece, suggesting Clinton’s chances of becoming president fell by about 8 percent purely due to the revelation regarding her health.

James 'Mad Dog' Mattis, retired U.S. commander, rips Obama's 'unguided' ISIS strategy

Famous Marine says policy ‘replete with half-measures’

Two retired U.S. commanders say President Obama still does not have a winning strategy for defeating the Islamic State group after three years and billions of dollars invested in the cause.

Retired Gens. James “Mad Dog” Mattis and Anthony Zinni were asked by Time magazine Tuesday to assess the U.S.-led coalition’s efforts against the Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL. Neither man was convinced the president had a winning long-term strategy.

Mr. Mattis, who led U.S. Central Command from 2010 to 2013, told the publication that Mr. Obama’s efforts are “unguided by a sustained policy or sound strategy [and] replete with half-measures.”

Mr. Zinni, who held the position from 1997 to 2000, was even more blunt.

“It’s a bad strategy, it’s the wrong strategy, and maybe I would tell the president that he would be better served to find somebody who believes in it, whoever that idiot may be,” the former four-star general told the magazine.

Clinton team avoided ER to conceal details of her medical treatment

Hillary Clinton was headed to an emergency room following her frightening collapse at the Sept. 11 memorial ceremony — but detoured to daughter Chelsea Clinton’s apartment to keep details of her medical treatment under wraps, The Post has learned.

Secret Service protocol called for the Democratic presidential nominee to be rushed to a state-designated Level I Trauma Center in the wake of her Sunday-morning health crisis, sources said. In Manhattan, that would be Bellevue Hospital.

But a campaign operative decided to change course to avoid having Clinton seen by doctors, nurses and other medical workers who could leak details to reporters, according to a source.

In addition, Clinton’s van was supposed to be escorted by an NYPD detail, but the Secret Service whisked her away from Ground Zero before cops could accompany her, another source said.

The former secretary of state had told police officials that she didn’t want the escort at all, but the NYPD overruled that request, the source added.

A Homerun For The Donald - Attack The Fed's War On Savers, Workers And The Unborn (Taxpayers)

The central banks have gone so far off the deep-end with financial price manipulation that it is only a matter of time before some astute politician comes after them with all barrels blasting. As a matter of fact, that appears to be exactly what Donald Trump unloaded on bubble vision this morning:

By keeping interest rates low, the Fed has created a “false stock market,” Donald Trump argued in a wide-ranging CNBC interview, exclaiming that Fed Chair Janet Yellen and central bank policymakers are very political, and should be “ashamed” of what they’re doing to the country…

He’s completely correct. After all, they are crushing real wages with their 2% inflation targeting; destroying savers with NIRP and sub-zero rates; and burying unborn taxpayers in monumental debts that today’s politicians are pleased to issue with reckless abandon because the short-run carry cost is nil.

Interest on the Uncle Sam’s $19.4 trillion of debt, for example, is easily $500 billion lower than its true economic cost based on a normal yield after inflation and taxes and elimination of the phony $100 billion per year in so-called Fed “profits” that are booked by the treasury as negative interest expense.

Dr. Jane Orient: ‘Media Is Being Told Not to Give Us the Whole Story’ on Hillary Clinton’s Health

Dr. Jane Orient, executive director of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, joined SiriusXM host Alex Marlow on Monday’s Breitbart News Daily to talk about Hillary Clinton’s medical condition.

“Let’s stick to the facts that we know,” Dr. Orient suggested, adding:

We know that she has a very serious concussion that took her a long time to recover from. We also know that she had transverse sinus thrombosis, which involves one of the two veins that drains blood out of your head. And both of these things can have serious long-term consequences. We’ve certainly heard about the National Football League, and the movie Concussion, and about the longtime problems had by athletes who have suffered concussions.

Orient pointed out that “as far as we know,” Clinton has not undergone the neuro-cognitive testing such athletes require before receiving permission to return to the field.

“Also, her doctor has made the statement that this clot near her brain has dissolved, but I don’t know how she came to that conclusion because it usually doesn’t. Anti-coagulants don’t dissolve clots; they help to prevent them from propagating,” she noted.

It's Time To Bring Back Bernie

This tells you everything you need to know about how Hillary will operate as President: there will be no honesty, transparency or truth, ever.

Hillary's bid for the presidency is no longer defensible; it's time to bring back Bernie Sanders as the Democratic nominee.

The issue isn't Hillary Clinton's health per se; what is indefensible is her response to legitimate questions of the American public regarding her health.

Hillary Clinton has disqualified herself to be President of the United States because she is incapable of telling the truth about anything. There is no such thing as truth or transparency in the Clinton persona and campaign; everything is an ongoing experiment in perception management.

SHOCK: Secret Service Agent Reveals HIGHLY Disturbing Thing He Saw When Hillary Fell

Democrat presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s apparent health problems have been getting harder and harder for her sycophants to spin as “conspiracy theory,” and now a former Secret Service agent has spoken out about just how big of a deal Clinton’s recent fainting spell was.

Former U.S. Secret Service agent Dan Bongino told Breitbart that he has never seen a presidential candidate collapse like Clinton did on Sunday.

Marlow asked Bongino what he thought about Clinton’s collapse that saw two Secret Service agents almost drag the candidate into her motorcade vehicle. Bongino told Marlow:

“This is severe. I was in the Secret Service for 12 years. I must have done security, or been part of a security plan, at close to 500 sites, if not more. I’ve never seen a protectee go down like that, ever.”

x”I’ve seen protectees get thirsty, get hungry, get a little woozy, sit down in a hold room,” he added. “I have never seen a protectee literally faint. I don’t think there’s any reasonable person would question that she would have fell if it wasn’t for the agents.”

Voter fraud investigation in Virginia

HARRISONBURG, Va (WHSV)-- The FBI and Harrisonburg Police are investigating voter fraud.

Commonwealth's Attorney Marsha Garst said law enforcement is looking in to whether an organization used "a number of" deceased people's information to register to vote. As of Tuesday afternoon, the investigation is ongoing and she could not release more information.

According to a statement from the Harrisonburg Registrar's Office, a family member notified the Commonwealth's Attorney and an investigation was opened by the Harrisonburg Police Department.

FBI Director Comey refused to testify on Clinton emails

FBI Director James Comey refused to attend a classified briefing with the House Oversight Committee despite receiving an invitation to testify about the bureau's reluctance to disclose thousands of pages of evidence compiled in its year-long investigation of Hillary Clinton's private email use.

Rep. Elijah Cummings, the committee's top Democrat, said Monday that Comey had declined to appear at the meeting because he had "already bent over backwards" to explain the FBI's decision-making in the Clinton email case.

But Rep. Jason Chaffetz, chairman of the Oversight Committee, disputed the suggestion that he had invited Comey to the public hearing on redactions in notes from the Clinton email case, noting he had discussed specific points of concern in a personal phone call with the FBI director but had not issued a subpoena for Comey's presence at the hearing.

Chaffetz called the hearing to question officials about why whole and partial documents had been withheld from Congress, including unclassified files.

Senator Coats Proposes 'Realignment Committees' to Balance the Budget

The warning signs are right before our eyes. Out-of-control federal spending is threatening to bankrupt the health and retirement security programs depended on by seniors in Indiana and millions of Americans across the country.

The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office projects that Medicare Part A will be bankrupt in 2026 and the Social Security Trust Funds will be exhausted by 2030 if Congress takes no action. As a result, Social Security beneficiaries will face an automatic cut of 29 percent in benefits.

Given this reality, inaction is not a viable solution. If policymakers fail to make necessary reforms today, more drastic and painful changes will be forced upon us down the road.

The good news is there is still time to do the right thing. I believe smart reforms to federal spending can be made that preserve benefits for current enrollees and those approaching retirement age.

I recently introduced a new proposal to address our fiscal challenges and make structural changes to the way your taxpayer dollars are spent. My bill, the Mandatory Bureaucratic Realignment and Consolidation Commission Act, is based on a model that the Defense Department has used successfully for years.

City of Alexandria Stonewalling Investigation Into Illegally Registered Voters

The city of Alexandria, Va., is stonewalling an investigation into voter rolls in the city that could have illegally registered voters.

The Public Interest Legal Foundation, an Indiana-based law firm that litigates to protect election integrity, filed a lawsuit in April against the city of Alexandria on behalf of the Virginia Voters Alliance, a group dedicated to improving election laws. The groups contended that voter rolls in Alexandria have for years contained more registrants than people of voting age in the city.

In January, PILF sent a statutory notice letter to Anna J. Leider, the general registrar of Alexandria, warning that the city was in violation of federal voter registration laws. Leider did not use data readily available to the city’s circuit court clerk to remove ineligible voters from the rolls, PILF claimed.

PILF asked for information that included registration data in the city, the number of voters who were purged as part of list maintenance, the number of notices the city sent to inactive voters, the number of voters removed from rolls due to criminal conviction, and the latest available numbers of registered voters.

Leider did not provide the information and refused to meet with the group to discuss the matter, prompting the lawsuit. However, Leider reversed course after the suit was filed and allowed the Virginia Voters Alliance to enter the city’s office to inspect the voter registration records.

While inspecting the records, the group discovered a list of several hundred registrants who had been removed from the voter rolls because they were not U.S. citizens, said Hans von Spokavsky, a senior legal fellow at the Heritage Foundation.

Ben Carson to Hillary: Release the Results of a 'Specialized MRI'

Former Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson would like to see Hillary Clinton have a "specialized MRI" and then release the results in the wake of her health episode Sunday.

Carson, who is now a supporter of Donald Trump for president, spoke to BuzzFeed News about Clinton's sudden departure from a Sept. 11 memorial ceremony in New York.

"It is imperative that both major candidates for the highest office in the land immediately release detailed recent medical records to allow the people a fair opportunity to assess their physical fitness for office," Carson said.

"In the case of Hillary Clinton, because she has had a brain injury in the past, and there is a question of venous sinus thrombosis, the result of a recent specialized MRI would be very helpful. The stakes are too high for us to blindly elect someone to the presidency of the United States when we have the possibility of examining real evidence upon which to make a decision."

US Navy sailor gives birth on aircraft carrier after complaining of stomach pains

A sailor who complained of a stomachache recently gave birth to a healthy, 7-pound baby girl aboard the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, the Navy told The Virginian-Pilot. The sailor, who was on the ship while it operated in the Persian Gulf, did not report she was pregnant because she said she did not know she was.

“As the baby was born at sea aboard an operational unit, the main focus for the U.S. Navy, the ship and its crew is the safety and wellbeing of the baby and the mother,” Cmdr. Bill Urban, U.S. Naval Forces Central Command spokesman, told The Virginian-Pilot. “The baby and mother have arrived in Bahrain via helicopter with a medical escort and have been taken to a shore-based hospital for follow on care.”

An incubator, diapers and formula were flown out to the carrier following the baby’s birth, which was not immediately clear, reports said. The incubator was used to transport the baby during the medical evacuation.
