In the latest nationwide survey [PDF] of 1,501 people polled in mid-March about legalizing marijuana, 52% of those surveyed favored making weed legal, and 72% said that efforts to enforce anti-marijuana laws bring more cost than benefit.
The poll, conducted by the Pew Research Center, also tracked trends in public support for legalization, which has risen dramatically since 1969, when a Gallup poll found only 12% in favor.

And the majority of Americans re-elected Obama. We are slowly declining into a path of no return. Drugs are bad, period! When do we finally learn how to say "no" again?
Pot is a lot less destructive than alcohol. Legalize it and tax it, so we can make money on it and not spend so much to stop pot usage.
Anon 4:55 - What a good idea. Let us not let a good chance for more revenue escape us. Who cares about the message we're sending. More revenue in this case equals more addiction. Draw a line in the sand and learn how to say "no" regardless of the additional revenue possibilities. Haven't we learned anything or are we afraid of taking a stand?
Now, they are linking marijuana use with prescription drug abuse? I will give them some credit for that one. At least they didn't say pot would turn you into a werewolf, lead to heroin, or release your inner maniac. All of which they have said about pot. Their credibilty is not that great. And PLEAE stop saying "marijuana is addictive". Cigarettes are HIGHLY addictive. Alcohol is highly addictive. Meth is highly addictive. Marijuana? Not at all. Its that kind of hyperbole that ruins the anti-marijuana platform. Not to mention all the Senators, Representatives, and judges who are hitting a joint at home tonight and laughing (thats the idea) at the hysterical crowd of people claiming we are "not taking a stand". Here -- hit this and chill out.
