Coronavirus researcher killed in murder-suicide

A well-respected University of Pittsburgh Medical Center researcher was said to have been on the verge of 'very significant findings' related to thecoronavirus when police say he was killed in an apparent murder-suicide.

Dr Bing Liu, 37, was alone at his home in the 200 block of Elm Court in Ross Township on Saturday afternoon when another man - identified as 46-year-old Hao Gu - allegedly entered the residence through an unlocked door and opened fire.

Liu was struck by bullets in the head, neck and torso, and died of his injuries.

His wife was not home at the time of the homicide, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. The couple do not have children.

Police said Gu then returned to his car parked 100 yards away at Charlemagne Circle and turned the gun on himself.

Chinese students at Miami University donate 5,000+ protective masks

Miami University students from China have donated more than 5,000 protective masks in the Oxford area to health workers, the police and some Miami employees.

Hanzhou Zhang, a senior computer science major leading the effort, said their most recent donation of about 2,000 masks was made to Miami’s Student Health Services to distribute as needed.

Zhang said he and several other Chinese students are living in Oxford in a couple of residence halls that remain open on Miami’s campus. As the pandemic spread, China reduced most flights between there and the United States, making it difficult for the students to fly home. He said parents also worried about their children potentially getting infected on the flights.

Zhang — a teaching assistant in the department of computer science and software engineering — said he has enjoyed being a student at Miami.

“Miami offers many opportunities for students to be successful,” he said, adding that he conducted research with one of his professors.

Zhang said he plans to attend the University of Southern California to pursue a master’s degree in cyber security engineering.

Wendy’s customers report restaurants limiting, pulling burgers from menus due to meat shortage

A national meat shortage has prompted Wendy’s to temporarily remove some of its burgers from the menu as the company anticipates disruptions to its supply chain.

According to analysis conducted by financial firm Stephens, 18% of the company’s locations have listed some beef items as out of stock.

“Some of our menu items may be in short supply from time to time at some restaurants in this current environment,” Wendy’s said in an emailed statement to Restaurant Business. “We expect this to be temporary, and we’re working diligently to minimize the impact to our customers and restaurants.”


Mysterious Coronavirus-Linked Syndrome Spreads From London To New York

An unusually deadly coronavirus-linked respiratory syndrome initially observed among a cluster of children in the UK has apparently popped up in New York City, according to local media reports.

ABC 7 says a group of 15 children in NYC have been hospitalized with unusual symptoms similar to - get this - toxic shock syndrome, or Kawasaki Disease. The symptoms include inflammation of the blood vessels, including coronary arteries. While there have been reports of COVID-19 causing heart attacks in some patients with certain preexisting conditions, this level of damage seems unusually severe. COVID-19 is also not usually very aggressive in young children. Other symptoms include fever, rash, abdominal pain and vomiting.

However, not all of the 15 patients tested positive for the coronavirus. Only 4 tested positive outright, while 6 tested positive for COVID-19 antibodies, meaning they had likely been previously infected.

On Long Island, Cohen's Children Hospital has confirmed 25 kids have been hospitalized with Kawasaki-like symptoms; 11 of them are in the ICU. The county health commissioner in Nassau described their condition as "concerning."

Mayor de Blasio issued a warning to parents advising them to contact authorities immediately if their child exhibits a combination of the symptoms for the mysterious inflammatory syndrome.

"Where's The Beef?" – Not On The Horizon!

The reports continue to come in that there’s a real problem with the U.S. food supply. From McDonald’s reviewing their supply chain for beef to the pleas of ranchers already staring at feeding issues with last year’s poor harvests the signs are there for a major supply dislocation in beef going forward.

My local Winn-Dixie has had limits on large cuts of pork for the past couple of weeks. Porn loins have been gone for weeks now, so no pork jerky for us, which is a tragedy.

Now Wendy’s, which doesn’t use frozen beef, is reporting more than 20% of their stores are out of beef.

Stephens analyst James Rutherford noted 18% of Wendy’s restaurants were “completely sold out of beef items as of Monday evening,” reported Bloomberg.

“By our count 1,043 Wendy’s units were selling zero beef items yesterday evening,” but within the figure, about 128 restaurants were still selling beef chili. Rutherford added that the shortage varies across the country and said some restaurants still have full menus, while states like Ohio, Michigan, Tennessee, Connecticut, and New York are “fully out of fresh beef.” The note also said Wendy’s is “more exposed” to meat shortages because of its reliance on fresh beef compared with its competitors.

If you subscribe, like I do now, to the idea that this Coronapocalypse is mostly a cover story for the failures of the global financial and political system to usher in a new round of totalitarian control then destroying the most vulnerable, yet important, part of our food supply would be a key strategic goal.

But this beef shortage has been a year in the making. Last year because of poor grain harvests, especially corn, where millions of bushels came in at quality not even fit for silage, we were already expecting disruptions in the beef market as ranchers were thinning herds and bidding up the price of feeder calves earlier in year.

I’ve spoken with ranchers here in Florida about this. And this is an area which 1) grows a lot of cows, and 2) where meat packing plants have been mostly unaffected by COVID-19. So, it’s important when I tell you this dynamic in January and February has completely reversed itself.

Josh Hawley: Abolish the World Trade Organization in Wake of Coronavirus

Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) says the World Trade Organization (WTO) should be abolished in the wake of the Chinese coronavirus.

In an op-ed for the New York Times, Hawley credits the WTO with helping to empower “China’s rise” while weakening American workers:

But in the early 1990s, with America’s principal adversary gone, Western policymakers were in a messianic frame of mind. President George H.W. Bush promised a “new world order” of “open borders, open trade … and open minds,” a new international system based on liberal values to bring peace to the world. He and other internationalists wanted a new economic system to match. [Emphasis added]

Take the World Trade Organization. Its mandate was to promote free trade, but the organization instead allowed some nations to maintain trade barriers and protectionist workarounds, like China, while preventing others from defending themselves, like the United States. Foreign agriculture won concession after concession, while American farmers struggled to get fair access to markets.Meanwhile, the W.T.O. required American workers to compete against Chinese forced labor but did next to nothing to stop Chinese theft of American intellectual property and products. Under the W.T.O.’s auspices, capital and goods moved across borders easier than before, no doubt, but so did jobs. And too many jobs left America’s borders for elsewhere. As factories closed, workers suffered, from small towns to the urban core. Inflation-adjusted, working wages stagnated and upward mobility flatlined. [Emphasis added]

Harvard Law Prof: Coronavirus Is an Excuse to Dump Free Speech, Property Rights from Constitution

Harvard Law Professor Adrian Vermeule suggests using the Chinese virus pandemic as an excuse to establish a new interpretation of the U.S. Constitution, implementing policies that do away with concepts such as “free speech ideology” and “property rights.”

Adrian Vermeule, a professor of constitutional law at Harvard Law School, recently wrote a piece for the Atlantic in which he argues that traditional interpretations of the U.S. constitution have “now outlived its utility,” and that it is now time for the government to take a more centralized role in people’s lives.

Vermeule argues that “circumstances have now changed” due to the Chinese virus pandemic, and that it is now possible to imagine “moral” constitutionalism, which he says is not “enslaved to the original meaning of the Constitution,” and is also “liberated” from the narrative of “relentless expansion of individualistic autonomy.”

The professor is advocating for a new interpretation of the U.S. constitution, which he refers to as “common-good constitutionalism.”

“Such an approach,” wrote Vermeule, “should be based on the principles that government helps direct persons, associations, and society generally toward the common good, and that strong rule in the interest of attaining the common good is entirely legitimate.”

Vermeule also scrutinizes “the libertarian assumptions central to free-speech law and free-speech ideology,” which he says is “forbidden to judge the quality and moral worth of public speech,” and therefore, should “fall under the ax.”

The reason why obese people may be more at risk of dying from coronavirus could be because their fat cells make large amounts of a protein used by the infection to infiltrate human cells.

The coronavirus - scientifically called SARS-CoV-2 - latches onto ACE-2 receptors, known as the 'gateway' into cells inside body.

Fat cells express ACE-2 receptors, which experts say may explain why obese people have higher odds of suffering a severe bout of COVID-19.

ACE-2 is also expressed in the fat cells of people with type 2 diabetes - another high-risk health condition driven by obesity.

Some researchers now believe diabetes drugs could be used to fight the infection - and admitted that losing weight may also have a benefit.

The scientists who posed the theory, from Germany and the US, also outlined how fat cells are linked to a lung-scarring condition called pulmonary fibrosis.

With COVID-19 added on top, the lungs would struggle to get enough oxygen to the rest of the body.

The evidence is not concrete but data from hospitalised COVID-19 patients suggests obese people are more likely to die than those who are slim.

Public Health England has launched an investigation into how obesity plays a role in disease severity, as well as ethnicity and gender.

USC, Emory Creating Coronavirus Surveillance System Similar to China’s Social Credit Scoring

China launched its notorious social credit system last year to watch over its own citizens and mete out punishment based on personal behavior and loyalty to the Communist Party.

Now three prominent U.S. universities are using taxpayer money to create a similar type of surveillance network designed to monitor Americans and assign them scores based on their exposure to the Wuhan coronavirus.

Tech news outlet dot.LA recently reported that researchers at the University of Southern California, Emory University, and the University of Texas Health Science Center have received a federal grant to create a mobile app for contact tracing the novel coronavirus. The system will track a person’s real-time location and symptoms, and calculate a personal COVID-19 risk score.

USC’s Cyrus Shahabi, chair of the computer science department, told dot.LA that the universities hope to have a working mobile app by August, in time for the start of the fall semester. He said policymakers could use the system to warn the public to avoid hotspots of infection.

In other instances, people who have been assigned high personal risk scores might decide to stay home or get tested for COVID-19.

But the project, whose federal grant money comes from the National Science Foundation, has already raised red flags in terms of privacy and the potential for Big Brother-style abuse.

Incident: Handgun / Possession of CDS with the Intent to Distribute
Date of Incident: 5 May 2020
Location: 900 block of Scarlet Oak Drive, Salisbury, MD
Suspect: Tiair T. Bibbins, 18, Parksley, VA
Narrative:  On 5 May 2020 at 8:34 AM, a deputy approached a vehicle during an investigation into illicit drug activity. Upon detecting the odor of raw marijuana emanating from within the car, the deputy instructed the driver, Tiair Bibbins, to step out. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, the deputy located a 9mm semi-automatic handgun under the driver’s seat.
The handgun was discovered to be loaded with a chambered round ready to fire.
Further search of the vehicle revealed crack cocaine in individually wrapped baggies and a digital scale. The amount of crack cocaine and the manner of packaging was indicative that it was intended for distribution.
Bibbins was placed under arrest and transported to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. Following an initial appearance, the Commissioner detained Bibbins in the Detention Center without bond.

Macy’s to Reopen 68 Stores; Plans for All 775 in Next Six Weeks

The Macy’s company will re-open 68 stores Monday in states that have loosened coronavirus lockdown measures, the department store operator announced Thursday.

“Cincinnati, Ohio-based Macy’s, the largest U.S. department store operator by sales, said it expects to have all of its roughly 775 stores re-opened in six weeks, if infection rates taper off as projected and state and local governments allow it,” according to Reuters.

About 50 more stores were scheduled to re-open on May 11, the report noted.

Major changes were made inside the company’s stores during the shutdown to relieve those worried about the virus.

McCarthy: ‘Bold, Deregulatory Agenda’ Needed to Bring Back American Manufacturing

House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said during a press conference on Monday that a “bold, deregulatory agenda” is needed to bring back American manufacturing.

McCarthy said he spoke with experts and House Republicans about the world’s — and America’s — dependency on China for manufacturing.

He said that congressional leaders should include provisions in a potential phase four coronavirus “recovery legislation” that would work to bring back the American medical supply chain to the United States.

“I want Republicans and Democrats to be very serious about addressing this issue,” McCarthy said.

“And finally, we need to really look to a bold, deregulatory agenda to bring manufacturing to the United States. This would include extensive tax incentives, just ways to escape, to unshackle the regulatory capture because we have to look at it from a different perspective. You can’t just want the supply chain back,” he added.

The Worldwide Lockdown May Be the Greatest Mistake in History

The idea that the worldwide lockdown of virtually every country other than Sweden may have been an enormous mistake strikes many — including world leaders; most scientists, especially health officials, doctors and epidemiologists; those who work in major news media; opinion writers in those media; and the hundreds of millions, if not billions, of people who put their faith in these people — as so preposterous as to be immoral. Timothy Egan of The New York Times described Republicans who wish to enable their states to open up as “the party of death.”

That’s the way it is today on planet Earth, where deceit, cowardice and immaturity now dominate almost all societies because the elites are deceitful, cowardly and immature.

But for those open to reading thoughts they may differ with, here is the case for why the worldwide lockdown is not only a mistake but also, possibly, the worst mistake the world has ever made. And for those intellectually challenged by the English language and/or logic, “mistake” and “evil” are not synonyms. The lockdown is a mistake; the Holocaust, slavery, communism, fascism, etc., were evils. Massive mistakes are made by arrogant fools; massive evils are committed by evil people.

The forcible prevention of Americans from doing anything except what politicians deem “essential” has led to the worst economy in American history since the Great Depression of the 1930s. It is panic and hysteria, not the coronavirus, that created this catastrophe. And the consequences in much of the world will be more horrible than in America.

The United Nations World Food Programme, or the WFP, states that by the end of the year, more than 260 million people will face starvation — double last year’s figures. According to WFP director David Beasley on April 21: “We could be looking at famine in about three dozen countries. … There is also a real danger that more people could potentially die from the economic impact of COVID-19 than from the virus itself” (italics added).

Lamborghini offers pouring in for 5-year-old Utah boy who stole parents' SUV

OGDEN, Utah (KUTV) — The Lamborghini dreams of a 5-year-old Utah boy, who stole his parents' SUV so he could drive to Californiato buy one, are now coming true.

On Monday, Adrian Zamarripa took the keys to his parents' SUVafter an argument with his mother where she refused to buy him a Lamborghini.

Adrian drove for about two miles -- on his way to buy a Lamborghini with $3 in his pocket --before being stopped on Interstate 15 by Utah Highway Patrol.

His family says they are very sorry for this incident and warned other parents to not leave their car keys unattended.

Two Cops Contract Coronavirus After Arresting Twice-Deported, Since-Released Infected Illegal Alien

A twice-deported illegal alien arrested in a domestic violence dispute has been freed back into the local community in Culpeper, Virginia, after testing positive for the Chinese coronavirus. Two of the police officers who arrested him have also since tested positive for the virus.

On April 28, three police officers responded to a domestic violence call of a man allegedly assaulting his girlfriend. When the officers arrived, they had to use force in order to detain the man.

Days after the arrest, two of the officers tested positive for the coronavirus, according to police officials who spoke to FOX 5’s Lindsay Watts.

The man, likewise, tested positive for coronavirus while in police custody. Police officials said he is an illegal alien who has been deported twice from the United States.

The two officers have shown mild symptoms of coronavirus and the third officer has been quarantining, FOX 5 reported.

Bay Bridge cashless tolling goes live May 12

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The Bay Bridge tolls will officially be cashless starting May 12, Maryland Transportation Authority officials announced Tuesday.

Temporary cashless tolling has been in place statewide since March 17 to protect drivers and toll collectors during the COVID-19 emergency.

The permanent, all-electronic tolling system at the Bay Bridge includes three highway-speed traffic lanes that will tie into the two existing lanes on the eastbound bridge and the one westbound contraflow (two-way) lane. Crews recently installed the new overhead tolling gantry across eastbound US 50 between the bridge and MD 8 and are completing software installation and testing.

Ex-NY Times reporter blasts governors over 'infuriating' lockdowns: 'They are fools and haven't read the data'

Former New York Times reporter Alex Berenson, the most prominent critic of the models informing lawmakers' response to the coronavirus crisis, told "Tucker Carlson Tonight" Tuesday that local leaders should allow Americans to get back to work while protecting the most vulnerable populations.

"I'm getting sick of people saying, 'We don't know much about this virus, we don't know enough to know what the right steps are,'" Berenson said. "If that's true, why have we shut down the world?

"We do know a lot about this virus and we know the average age of death in the United States and worldwide is probably about 80 or 82 and we know about half, if not more, of the people who die in the United States die in nursing homes," Berenson said. "We know enough to know we should protect those people ... and instead, our leaders are spending time haranguing us about masks and destroying the economy with lockdowns and every day it makes less sense and every day it's more infuriating."

Berenson, who primarily covered the pharmaceutical industry during his time with the paper, told Carlson that he has been "waiting for the reality and the data to start to hit people." He specifically criticized leaders in Oregon, New York, and Illinois for imposing "unrealistic benchmarks" in lifting their respective lockdowns.

Rep. Michael McCaul to Newsmax TV: China Created 'Worst Cover-Up in Human History'

“It’s very clear that the Chinese Communist Party was engaged in what I call the worst cover-up in human history,” Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, leading Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, told "The Chris Salcedo Show" on Newsmax TV.

McCaul blasted both the Democrats and Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director-general of the World Health Organization (WHO), for their roles in failing to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

“The saddest thing about this is that it could have been contained. It could have been stopped, but because of the Chinese Communist Party’s efforts to cover up and the WHO being complicit, we now have a global pandemic that has killed hundreds of thousands and destroyed economies.”

Many of the allegations bubbling up in recent weeks center on a high-level virology lab in Wuhan, China, the city where the pandemic began. The Trump administration has said there's strong evidence that the coronavirus, associated with bats, began not in a wet market in China but in that lab, with theories suggesting it accidentally made its way into the surrounding area, outside the lab.

For its part, China has denied any such escape or cover-up. WHO has said it has not yet seen the administration's evidence for such a claim.

McCaul termed Ghbreyesus a “Chinese puppet” and castigated him for failing to warn the world about coronavirus earlier.

”We have to also look at the slow systematic and deceptive takeover by China of the UN and the WHO. This Tedros guy is a puppet of China. We need to put our own people in these positions and defeat the Chinese candidates.

Incident: Attempted Murder (x2)
Date of Incident: 5/2/2020
Location: 900 block of Powhatan Boulevard, Salisbury, Maryland
Suspect: Steven Maurice Easley – 12/1/195
Narrative:
On May 1, 2020 at approximately 2253 hours, deputies from the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in reference to a stabbing victim in the emergency room.
Upon arrival, a 14-year old stabbing victim, who will be referred to by his/her initials to as "LS" was encountered suffering from a stab wound to his/her upper torso.
During the course of the investigation, it was learned that one of “LS's” brothers was engaged in a verbal altercation with a male subject identified as Steven Maurice Easley [hereinafter referred to as “Easley”] in front of a residence in the 900 block of Powhatan Boulevard.
While this altercation was occurring, the mother of "LS" attempted to intervene in order to stop the altercation. During the altercation, the mother was assaulted by Easley who knocked her to the ground. While the mother was attempting to get herself off the ground, "LS" and another one of his/her brothers than began to engage in a physical altercation with Easley for assaulting their mother.
At some point during this altercation, one brother of “LS” observed Easley to be in possession of a knife. This brother then hears the knife strike the pavement during the scuffle between “LS” and Easley.
Prior to the mother being able to get herself up off the pavement, it was learned Easley enters the vehicle he arrived in and accelerates in the mother’s direction in attempt to intentionally run her over with the vehicle. The mother advised Easley swerved in her direction just narrowly missing running her over. The mother stated she was within just a few feet of being run over.
At the conclusion of the scuffle and Easley fleeing the scene, “LS” enters his/her residence where he/she then noticed he/she had been stabbed by Easley after seeing blood on his/her shirt. Once observing that he/she is stabbed, his/her mother and her fiancée transport “LS” to PRMC for treatment.
Once interviews were completed, an application for statement of charges against Easley was submitted to the District Court commissioner’s office. An arrest warrant was issued for Easley.
On May 4, 2020, Easley turned himself into the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office and after an interview was presented before a District Court commissioner where he was ordered held without bond pending trial.

Gennifer Flowers to Newsmax TV: Don't 'Believe All Women or Men'

Rejecting "believe all women," or men for that matter, Bill Clinton's former lover Gennifer Flowers laments double standards in the MeToo movement.

"The Democratic Party certainly is going to scoot this under the table," Flowers told Newsmax TV's "American Agenda," referring to Tara Reade's allegations against presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden. "I don't think that's going to be possible, but if it were a Republican candidate in the same spot, I'm sure it would be quite different."

Democrats had held a "believe all women" mantra during the allegations against President Donald Trump and Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, but now Biden backers are believing men, apparently.

"I don't believe in that; I don't think that's fair," Flowers said. "I just don't think it's fair we believe all women, or all men, for that matter. Let's face it: There has to be some proof brought forward of either a man or a woman."

Flowers is disappointed Biden is not providing proof to refute claims levied against him by the former Senate staffer Reade in 1993.

Tom Cotton: Supreme Court must act against left-wing 'resistance judges'

The Supreme Court must take action against left-wing "resistance" judges, Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., urged Tuesday.

In an interview on "Fox & Friends" with hosts Steve Doocy, Ainsley Earhardt, and Brian Kilmeade, Cotton said that behavior from liberal judges like Justice Sonia Sotomayor and Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is what is "unprecedented."

After a dissent Friday, in the case of Wolf v. Cook County, Justice Sotomayor -- who was appointed by former President Barack Obama -- wrote that the Trump administration repeatedly uses the reason of "emergency basis" to bypass lower courts.

She wrote in her dissent, on a case dealing with the Trump administration's expansion of situations where the government can deny visas to non-citizens looking to enter the U.S., that it is troubling how often the administration is running to the Supreme Court for relief from injunctions against its policies, and how often the court is granting President Trump's requests.

China deliberately destroyed laboratory evidence, made whistleblowers disappear:

Communist China deliberately covered up the outbreak of COVID-19 in December-January by destroying laboratory evidence, and then silencing and “disappearing” whistleblowing physicians, according to an Australian newspaper based on a Western intelligence report.

The Washington Times asked the U.S. Office of Director of National Intelligence about the report. An official said, “We are not aware of a report that has been shared with our partners. However, we regularly share intelligence with our partners on a variety of threats and COVID is no different.”

The Australian Saturday Telegraph report has been quoted by media sites around the world. The newspaper said the 15-page paper is by the so-called “Five Eyes” intelligence-sharing consortium of Australia, New Zealand, Canada, United States and United Kingdom. The intelligence report represents a united front against the Chinese politburo and its wave of obfuscation and social media dis-information denying any blame.

Governors Call For $500 Billion Bailout Amid Standoff Over Coronavirus Relief Funds

National Governors Association Chair Larry Hogan, R-Md., and Gov. Andrew Cuomo, D-N.Y., the group's top Democrat, are issuing a joint call for Congress to approve $500 billion in direct aid to states, signaling a deepening budget crisis caused by the coronavirus as Congress battles over the next round of funding.

"In the absence of unrestricted fiscal support of at least $500 billion from the Federal government, states will have to confront the prospect of significant reductions to critically important services all across this country," the governors said in a statement. "Hampering public health, the economic recovery, and — in turn — our collective effort to get people back to work."

The call for extra money depicts an increasingly dire financial strain on states struggling with the coronavirus. Congressional Republicans have rejected calls for additional coronavirus-related spending at this time, beyond a $250 billion increase to a small business loan program.

On Thursday, Democrats blocked an attempt to approve the small business money after Republicans refused to add $150 billion for states and $100 billion for hospitals, in addition to a requirement that half of any new small business money be directed to community financial institutions.

Narrative:
On Monday, April 6th, 2020 at approximately 21:53 hours, Deputies from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office responded to 5000 block Sailfish Drive, Eden, Maryland in reference to a report that a man had been set on fire.
Upon arriving on scene, Deputies observed that the victim was suffering from severe burns to the majority of his body. The victim reported to Deputies that a subject who he identified as Robert Glorius, arrived at the Sailfish Drive address and began to assault the victim. During the assault, Glorius poured gasoline on the victim and set him a blaze. Glorius then fled the scene in a vehicle being operated by Emily Paige Skelton. Witnesses on scene were able to provide Deputies with a description of the vehicle. Deputies located the vehicle in the area of Mt Hermon Road and Wilton Avenue, Salisbury. A stop was conducted on the suspect vehicle and Deputies were able to take Glorius and Skelton into custody. The victim was flown to John Hopkins Bayview Medical Center by Trooper 4.

Judge allows California's stimulus payments to illegal immigrants

A California judge shot down a request Tuesday to halt California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s plan to make stimulus payments to illegal immigrants to help them out during the coronavirus crisis.

Judicial Watch has sued to stop the payments, calling them illegal, and had asked for a temporary restraining order to prevent the state from spending the money while the case proceeds.

A judge rejected that request.

Mr. Newsom has earmarked $75 million in state money to go specifically to illegal immigrants. He’s also working with a charity to collect another $50 million.

Judicial Watch said the judge agreed Mr. Newsom didn’t have the authority to spend the money, but rejected the temporary restraining order because there was an immediate public interest in getting the money out the door quickly during the coronavirus crisis.

Dem Rep: Reopening Economy Must Be Racist Because 'They're Just Opening Up the Things Black People Go To'

During a virtual event for former Vice President Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign on Monday, Ohio Democratic Rep. Marcia Fudge falsely implied that reopening certain businesses was — you guessed it — racist.

The event featured failed presidential candidate and California Sen. Kamala Harris, who recently endorsed the presumptive Democratic nominee despite all but accusing him of racism just months before.

Other prominent black figures joined them in the livestream event dubbed, “Confronting Coronavirus: Addressing Impacts & Disparities in the Black Community.”

The discussion touched on many topics, including states that have begun to reopen certain businesses that had been closed to stop the spread of coronavirus.

“You know, they opened the beauty salons and the barber shops and the bowling alleys and the movie theaters,” Fudge began. It wasn’t entirely clear if she was referring to a specific state, though Georgia has taken steps to allow all of those businesses to reopen.

Reopen rally shows rift between Harris, Hogan

CHESTERTOWN — Maryland's two leading Republicans appear to be at odds over whether the coronavirus curve has been flattened enough to reopen the state's economy.

U.S. Rep. Andy Harris, R-Md.-1st, while not necessarily calling out Gov. Larry Hogan, a fellow Republican, by name has been very vocal of late in his criticism of the continued shutdown to try to keep COVID-19 at bay. Harris has taken to Facebook to voice his concerns and spoke at a protest held in Salisbury Saturday, May 2.

Hogan, appearing Sunday, May 3 on CNN and Fox News spoke about the need for caution when preparing to reopen the economy. He has laid out a plan for doing so that he said falls within guidelines set out by President Donald Trump's administration.

Trump has plan to remove US dependency on China supply chain

The Trump administration is “turbocharging” an initiative to remove the US from dependency on a China-based supply chain and weighing imposing new tariffs to punish the Communist Party in Beijing for its response to the coronavirus pandemic, according to a report on Monday.

The economic damage and death toll from the COVID-19 outbreak has prompted a government-wide plan to shift the supply chain from China — an extension of President Trump’s pledge to return manufacturing jobs to the US.

“We’ve been working on [reducing the reliance of our supply chains in China] over the last few years but we are now turbocharging that initiative,” Keith Krach, undersecretary for economic growth, energy and the environment at the State Department, told Reuters.

“I think it is essential to understand where the critical areas are and where critical bottlenecks exist,” Krach said, adding that the government could announce new action soon.

A number of agencies, including the Commerce and State departments, are looking at how to move the supply chain and manufacturing from China using tax incentives and other measures, the report said.

Want to help Ocean City? Don’t go there this weekend | COMMENTARY

Last week, Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan made a wise judgment and extended the beach closure that was set to expire on April 30 to May 15. At the time, he explained he wanted to follow Gov. Larry Hogan’s “Roadmap to Recovery” plan for a return to full economic activity and recognized that the town should wait for a lifting of the stay-at-home order before it welcomes tourists. On Monday and with the support of the City Council, he reversed course moving to reopen beaches this Saturday and even going so far as to outright invite out-of-towners to visit for the day or perhaps the next, which is Mother’s Day, providing they keep proper social distances. Hotels are restricted to “essential” personnel only so, at least in theory, visitors won’t be staying. Not since last year’s OC Air Show, has the populace witnessed such public and, frankly, death-defying acrobatics.

This is a mistake. Not because Ocean City should not be looking to reopen gradually but because it’s simply premature. Just look at Maryland’s coronavirus numbers. While COVID-19-related deaths have gone down slightly, other measures such as hospitalizations have only recently plateaued. The state is surely inching toward the first phase of the governor’s three-phase plan, but it is not yet there. Worcester County may have only 80 diagnosed cases to date, but reopening beaches means the town will be potentially drawing from hundreds of miles away including all of Maryland, which has recorded nearly 1,300 deaths including 74 in the last 24 hours alone, as of this writing. Just last month, town officials were worried that out-of-state condo owners should not risk visiting their properties because the lower Eastern Shore’s limited health facilities could easily be swamped. Is that not still true?

On Monday Attorney Sidney Powell dropped this bomb on the deep state. According to Powell General Flynn would have blown up all of the Comey and Co. crimes and he and President Trump would have learned it all.

South Carolina Woman Arrested For Licking Spree in Grocery Store and Sandwich Shop

Shenir Gibson Holliday was arrested on Saturday after a licking spree at an IGA grocery store and Sub Station II sandwich shop in Sumter, South Carolina.

Sumter Police said surveillance footage from IGA grocery store showed Holliday licking her hands before touching freezer doors and food.

In a separate incident, a manager of a Sub Station II sandwich shop said Holliday was seen licking her hands then wiping the debit card machine and counter tops.

Holliday was charged with aggravated breach of peace and food tampering and is being held on a $100,000 bond.

Theranos Would Be Thriving in the Covid-19 Pandemic

Relaxed regulations, misinformation, and a big potential payout are reminiscent of the conditions that cultivated Theranos

November 2015, the U.S. House of Representatives held a hearing about draft guidance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) about closing a regulatory loophole exploited by Theranos. However, the draft guidance was never put into law, with one congressman objecting, “Why in the world would a lab develop a test that wasn’t safe and accurate?” The short answer: because its founder wanted to become the world’s youngest self-made female billionaire.

We’ve seen the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) flounder as it scrambled to develop a test for SARS-CoV-2, heard President Trump blame Obama-era regulations for the lack of tests, and are now hearing about serology tests that can determine if we can go back to work. Because of my role in exposing the Theranos scandal and starting a diagnostic company of my own, I have been asked countless times: “What is going on with coronavirus testing?” While there is certainly value in moving as fast as possible during this crisis, I am worried that we are creating an environment that facilitates many of the same mistakes Theranos made.

Theranos spent 15 years and nearly a billion dollars of venture capital and only got FDA clearance for one test — oral herpes, which is more commonly diagnosed by simple visual inspection than with a blood test. How can so many years and dollars result in such astonishing failure? Sure, bad scientific methods, poor engineering, terrible management, uninformed investors, a negligent board, and fraud played a part. But from my perspective, our worst and most pervasive sin was a simple one: cutting corners. We “launched” a product that claimed to perform hundreds of tests from a single drop of blood when in reality we could only do one. We needed to launch more tests, we needed to test more patients, and we needed to do so quickly. If there was a corner that could be cut, it was gone.

The deadline to get SARS-CoV-2 tests working and distributed was not artificial — Covid-19 was coming, whether we were prepared for it or not. And just like at Theranos, sweet talking, half-truths, and unfounded optimism were not going to help. The CDC rushed to develop and distribute a test, and the first tests were sent out on February 5, just weeks after development began. However, many labs found that the negative controls from the test kits produced positive results. This was a clear sign that the tests were not working. By the end of February, the CDC said it had only tested 1,235 people for SARS-CoV-2. For reference, South Korea had tested over 100,000 people by that time. On February 29, the FDA released a policy to guide the private sector in the development of tests for SARS-CoV-2.

Did Feds Commit Felony By Altering 302s In The Michael Flynn Case?

The U.S. Code makes it a felony offense, punishable by up to 20 years in prison, to knowingly alter or falsify an entry in a document with the intent to influence a federal investigation. This is comparatively a more serious offense than the false statement charge that Michael Flynn pled to, which carries a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison.

Newly revealed text messages between federal agents Paige and Strzok discussing the Michael Flynn case, dating February 10, 2017, show the cheaters discussing rewriting a 302 written by another agent, trying to disguise their edits as the author's own voice.

According to insinuations made by Flynn's lawyers in hearings and court filings, statements made by Sidney Powell to the media, and pursuant to a review of the publicly available materials related to this case, the documents that the federal agents were discussing altering were almost certainly 302 reports. "An objective view of SSA 1's purported handwritten notes with the FD-302 of the January 24, 2017 interview of Mr. Flynn that Lisa Page instructed Agent Strzok to edit on February 10, 2017, reveals equally troubling 'inaccuracies,' 'omissions,' and 'unsupported statements,'" wrote Flynn's lawyers in their Motion to Dismiss for Egregious Government Misconduct. "Overnight February 10-11, 2017, Strzok makes multiple changes to the FBI 302 of that interview—changes that are objectively material to the defense," Flynn's lawyers later explained in a supplemental filing.
