The First Medal of Honor Ever Recorded

Chapman's background

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Title 10, Section 8742, U.S.C., awards the Air Force Cross to TSgt John Chapman for extraordinary heroism in military operation against an armed enemy of the United States as a 24th Special Tactics Squadron, Combat Controller in the vicinity of Gardez, in the eastern highlands of Afghanistan, on March 4, 2002. On this date, during his helicopter insertion for a reconnaissance and time sensitive targeting close air support mission, Sergeant Chapman's aircraft came under heavy machine gun fire and received a direct hit from a rocket propelled grenade which caused a United States Navy sea-air-land team member to fall from the aircraft. Though heavily damaged, the aircraft egressed the area and made an emergency landing seven kilometers away. Once on the ground Sergeant Chapman established communication with an AC-130 gunship to insure the area was secure while providing close air support coverage for the entire team. He then directed the gunship to begin the search for the missing team member. He requested, coordinated, and controlled the helicopter that extracted the stranded team and aircrew members. These actions limited the exposure of the aircrew and team to hostile fire. Without regard for his own life Sergeant Chapman volunteered to rescue his missing team member from an enemy strong hold. Shortly after insertion, the team made contact with the enemy. Sergeant Chapman engaged and killed two enemy personnel. He continued to advance reaching the enemy position then engaged a second enemy position, a dug-in machine gun nest. At this time, the rescue team came under effective enemy fire from three directions. From close range he exchanged fire with the enemy from minimum personal cover until he succumbed to multiple wounds. His engagement and destruction of the first enemy position and advancement on the second position enabled his team to move to cover and break enemy contact. In his own words, his Navy sea-air-land team leader credits Sergeant Chapman unequivocally with saving the lives of the entire rescue team. Through his extraordinary heroism, superb airmanship, aggressiveness in the face of the enemy, and the dedication to the service of his country, Sergeant Chapman reflects the highest credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

New Border Wall Project Completed in San Diego

WASHINGTON – On August 9, 2019, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), in partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), completed construction on approximately 14 miles of new border wall system in U.S. Border Patrol’s (USBP) San Diego Sector in California. This project, funded with CBP’s Fiscal Year (FY) 2017 appropriation, included the construction of 18-foot steel bollards, improved road conditions, and additional technology in place of dilapidated and outdated pedestrian barrier.

“The construction of the new border wall system supports USBP’s ability to impede and deny illegal border crossings and the drug and human smuggling activities of transnational criminal organizations while increasing safety by allowing agents to observe activity just immediately south of the border wall,” said Acting San Diego Sector Chief Kathleen Scudder.

As of August 9, 2019, CBP has constructed approximately 57 miles of new border wall system since 2017. By the end of 2020, CBP and DOD expect to construct a total of 450 miles or more of new border wall system if additional funds are identified, including up to 334 miles of new border wall system completed by CBP in high priority locations across the Southwest border using a combination of the Department of Homeland Security appropriations, Department of Defense 10 U.S.C. § 284 Counter-Narcotics funding and Treasury Forfeiture Funds. This includes an addition of approximately 14 miles of new secondary wall in the same location in USBP’s San Diego Sector funded by CBP’s FY 2018 appropriation, of which over six miles have been completed to date.

CBP continues to implement President Trump’s Executive Order 13767 – also known as Border Security and Immigration Enforcement Improvements – taking steps to expeditiously plan, design, and construct a physical wall using appropriate materials and technology to most effectively achieve operational control of the southern border.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between official ports of entry. CBP is charged with securing the borders of the United States while enforcing hundreds of laws and facilitating lawful trade and travel.

Early study suggest 2 Ebola treatments saving lives

Two of four experimental Ebola drugs being tested in Congo seem to be saving lives, international health authorities announced Monday.

The preliminary findings prompted an early halt to a major study on the drugs and a decision to prioritize their use in the African country, where a yearlong outbreak has killed more than 1,800 people.

The early results mark “some very good news,” said Dr. Anthony Fauci of the U.S. National Institutes of Health, which helped fund the study. With these drugs, “we may be able to improve the survival of people with Ebola.”

While research shows there is an effective albeit experimental vaccine against Ebola — one now being used in Congo — no studies have signaled which of several potential treatments were best to try once people became sick.

Can the Democratic Party Govern America?

I recently had a lunch meeting with a client of 25 years who is a lifelong member and financial supporter of the Democratic Party. While we managed to avoid politics as best we could, the inevitable subject of Donald Trump and the Democratic presidential field reared its head. Once my friend got past the usual left-wing talking points about Trump, I asked him a simple question. Given the current state of the American Left and their domination of the Democratic Party would the Democrats be able to govern a nation of 330 million people the size of the continent of Europe if they assumed all the reins of power in Washington D.C.? I was met with a blank stare and a stammered “I really don’t know.”

So, for the benefit of my friend and his fellow Democrats and leftists some further questions to help them answer that fundamental inquiry.

This same cabal that would be charged with governing the nation has, for the past three and a half years, marginalized, physically confronted and repeatedly accused 63 million Americans who voted for Donald Trump of being not only racists but fascists and white supremacists, as well as homophobic, xenophobic and among the most vile people on the face of the earth. What will be their intentions for these rightfully incensed citizens? Ignore them and hope they go away (which they will not)? Or succumb to their base in order to stay in power and continue to vilify nearly half of the voters in 2020, thus potentially fomenting serious ongoing confrontations and retaliation.

This Woman Got A Huge Raise And Paid Off Her Student Loans By Asking The “Over/Under” Question

Do you know that feeling of jumping into a metallic, purple catsuit to express your joy through interpretive dance with two backup dancers costumed in money signs? Probably not, unless you too have experienced the blinding exhilaration of paying off more than $200,000 in student loans. Caitlin Boston knows this feeling — it took her 10 years to get there. And it might have taken longer if she hadn’t asked a simple question of her colleagues.

She uploaded her whirlwind celebration to YouTube.

By the time Boston graduated in 2009, she had a master’s in social psychology and two undergraduate degrees in anthropology and American studies. Altogether, she had $147,602 in student loans.

Germany: 76-Year-Old Among Victims of Weekend Sex Attacks by 'Foreign Men'

A 76-year-old is among the victims of attacks and sexual assaults by 'foreign' male suspects during the weekend across Germany, according to local media.

In Schleswig-Holstein, an elderly woman, 76, was reportedly harassed by a man with a "southern appearance" before he violently groped her and inflicted injuries that required hospitalization.

"The suspect was a man who may already have been known to the police for similar crimes," a police spokesperson told Junge Freiheit.

In Hanover, police arrested two Afghan men who were suspected in the rape of a 38-year-old woman while on her way home from a laundromat at night.

Leftists Threaten Contractor in Fla; Day Before ICE Facility Shot at in Texas

A group of open borders activists threatened employees of a government contractor in Florida that provides facility space for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency to detain border crossers and illegal aliens the day before a shooting at the contractor’s offices in Texas.

In exclusive footage captured by Matt Perdie of Breitbart News, protesters with Never Again Action, Miramar Circle of Protection Friends of Miami-Dade Detainees, Food Not Bombs Fort Lauderdale, Students Working for Equal Rights, and the Black Lives Matter Alliance of Broward County shouted threats at workers and former employees of the GEO Group, a private contractor used by ICE for facility and detention space.

One protester specifically threatened GEO Group’s former general counsel John Bulfin, shouting the locations and addresses of where his children live in the United States.

“We know where all your children live throughout the country … John Bulfin you have kids in [bleeped out], you have kids in [bleeped out],” the protester shouted. “We know everything about you and you won’t just be seeing us here.”

Trump administration takes step to relax truck driver time regulations

The Trump administration proposed new rules Wednesday to relax regulations for commercial truck drivers on breaks and work hours.

The proposal consists of five changes for truck drivers’ “hours of service.” First, truck drivers could in the future use their 30-minute breaks that they receive every eight hours when they are on duty but not driving, such as when they are waiting for a truck to be loaded with cargo. Previously, the drivers had to go formally “off duty” to use the break.

Under the proposed rules, truck drivers can also split their required 10 hours of off-duty time into two breaks, a seven-hour break for sleeping and another three-hour break when they choose. Under current law, they must take one 10-hour break after a day of driving.

Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao said the rules seek to balance safety and flexibility for truck drivers.

Judicial Watch Finds Documents Showing Fusion GPS Working Directly With Obama's DOJ to Frame Trump

Government watchdog Judicial Watch has uncovered and released hundreds of documents showing the Obama Justice Department working directly with Fusion GPS, a research firm hired by the Clinton campaign, to frame President Trump.

The documents show Fusion GPS' Nellie Ohr, who was specifically hired in 2016 to dig up dirt on Trump and his children Ivanka, Don Jr. and Eric, working directly with U.S. Associate Deputy Attorney General Bruce Ohr on a spread sheet linking President Trump to a number of Russian operatives. Nellie and Bruce are married and while Bruce was demoted, he's still working at the Department of Justice in Washington D.C.

High flows to Chesapeake Bay continued in July

The Chesapeake Bay continued to be on the receiving end of high river flows in July. The flows have been higher than normal for 13 out of the last 15 months, according to data from the U.S. Geological Survey.

The pollution carried into the Bay during that span has led to worse than normal water quality and last month triggered a large oxygen-starved “dead zone” in the Bay.

In July, the USGS reported that the estimated cumulative flow into the Bay from its nine largest rivers — which account for more than 95% of the freshwater entering the Bay — averaged 54,000 cubic feet per second. That was the 15th highest flow on record for the month since the agency began tracking river flows into the Bay in 1936.

Democrat contenders unload on news media

The Democrat presidential contenders are letting loose with a barrage of attacks against the news media, ripping national outlets for what they view as biased coverage of their campaigns or unfair double standards in covering President Trump.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is leading the way, making his grievances with “corporate media” central to his anti-establishment campaign.

The Sanders campaign took it up a notch this week, calling out CNN and NBC by name and making the case that The Washington Post is covering him negatively because he’s been critical of the newspaper’s billionaire owner, Jeff Bezos.

Top media personalities are firing back at Sanders and accusing him of taking a page from Trump, who routinely attacks major outlets such as The New York Times and CNN as "fake news."

But Sanders is far from the only Democrat candidate to vent frustration with the media’s campaign coverage.

A top surrogate for former Vice President Joe Biden’s campaign lashed out at reporters this week for giving outsized coverage to the former vice president’s recent verbal gaffes.

And former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas) and former San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro (D) have both blasted the press for what they describe as applying too light of a touch with Trump on issues pertaining to race.

WATCH: Whale breaching spotted along Ocean City shore

Beachgoers were in for quite the treat in Ocean City, Maryland, when a whale spent hours breaching right along the shore last week.

It was a rare sighting, said Dr. Helen Bailey with the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science.

This whale, she believes, is likely either a North Atlantic right whale, a species that is critically endangered with only about 400 remaining, or a humpback whale, which is well-known for its breaching.

“These are large, what we call baleen whales, so they don’t have teeth,” Bailey said.

The Trump administration gives Planned Parenthood an ultimatum

Planned Parenthood is one step closer to losing its federal funding, thanks to the Trump administration.

The abortion giant has chosen to stop tapping into Title X family planning funds after Congress approved a sweeping bipartisan budget that reinforces and tightens the Hyde Amendment, a law that prohibits organizations from receiving tax dollars if they provide abortions. Planned Parenthood has vowed to challenge the restrictions in court, arguing it can still receive Title X dollars until the courts decide what to do.

But the Trump administration is laying down the law: The Department of Health and Human Services has given Planned Parenthood until Monday to comply with its regulations or completely exit the family planning program.

Jacob Miller: A War-Scarred Survivor

The Battle of Chickamauga was fought in northwest Georgia, near Missionary Ridge, on September 19–20, 1863. The Union Army of the Cumberland was making an offensive maneuver and was attacked by the Confederate Army of Tennessee. The battle resulted in Union defeat and involved the second highest number of casualties in the Civil War following the Battle of Gettysburg.

During the conflict, Jacob Miller, a private in the Union army, sustained a bullet wound to the forehead. He survived and carried the bullet in his head for many years afterward. The following is adapted from an interview Jacob gave to his local newspaper in 1911:

“After being shot,” Jacob says, “I was left for dead when my company fell back from that position. When I came to my senses some time after, I found I was in the rear of the Confederate line.”

Governor Hogan Launches New Push for Clean and Renewable Energy

Advances Solar Energy Projects on State Properties, Establishes Task Force for Development and Siting
ANNAPOLIS, MD—Continuing his commitment to skilled environmental stewardship, Governor Larry Hogan today announced new initiatives to promote clean and renewable energy projects in Maryland.
Clean and Renewable Energy Initiatives. Governor Hogan signed Executive Order 01.01.2019.09, establishing the Governor’s Task Force on Renewable Energy Development and Siting, which will work to develop consensus-based recommendations on the siting of new solar and wind energy projects in the state. To jumpstart that process, the governor announced new initiatives aimed at advancing solar energy deployment and development on state-managed and -owned properties:
  • The Maryland Department of General Services, along with the Maryland Environmental Service, will conduct a first-of-its-kind assessment and inventory of state properties that could be utilized for solar energy.
  • The state is pledging an additional $4 million in grants to aid large public institutions, including community colleges and universities, to deploy solar arrays on existing infrastructure—such as parking lots and rooftops—while encouraging state agencies to incorporate solar energy into any future construction.
“In my most recent State of the State address, I pledged my strong support for clean and renewable energy solutions that are affordable, reliable, and produce jobs right here in Maryland,” said Governor Hogan. “That is exactly what these announcements will help us to achieve. These innovative initiatives will provide millions of dollars in benefits to Marylanders and lower energy and maintenance costs, all while creating clean energy and green jobs opportunities.”
The Governor’s Task Force on Renewable Energy Development and Siting will include key stakeholders from state agencies along with representatives of Maryland’s agriculture community, local government, as well as the solar and wind energy sectors. The task force seeks to accelerate clean and renewable energy projects while minimizing and mitigating the impact on agriculturally or ecologically important, sensitive, and valuable areas. The task force will submit its initial findings in December 2019, with final recommendations due within a year.
The task force will be chaired by former Washington County Commissioners President Greg Snook, who currently serves on the boards of Hagerstown Community College, Meritus Medical Center, and Maryland State Roads Commission. Snook is the president and CEO of the Hagerstown-Washington County Industrial Foundation.
Bold Energy Strategy. In May, Governor Hogan outlined a bold energy strategy to set Maryland on a path to 100% clean electricity by 2040. The governor plans to submit the Clean and Renewable Energy Standard (CARES) plan to the General Assembly on the first day of the 2020 legislative session.
Environmental Stewardship. Governor Hogan’s record of skilled environmental stewardship includes:
  • Committing an historic $5 billion toward Chesapeake Bay initiatives, fully funding restoration efforts for four years in a row.
  • Fully funding Program Open Space for the first time in more than a decade.
  • Fully funding the Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays Trust Fund for the first time in state history.
  • Pushing for and enacting clean air standards that are stronger than 48 other states.
  • Joining the U.S. Climate Alliance and serving as a leader in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative.

Philadelphia standoff: Police dispatch audio reveals tense moments during hours-long ordeal

Dramatic audio from police dispatchers reveals how two officers became trapped and six others were wounded as gunfire rang out during an hours-long standoff that turned one residential Philadelphia neighborhood upside down Wednesday.

Several officers with the Narcotics Strike Force were serving a warrant at the multifamily home -- in connection with what may have been a drug-related offense -- when things "went awry almost immediately," and the shooter opened fire, police Commissioner Richard Ross Jr. said.

“We’ve got several shot officers. We’ve got an officer down. They’re still getting shot – shots fired,” a female dispatcher said shortly after the gunfire began around 4:30 p.m.

Jeffrey Epstein had a painting of Bill Clinton wearing a blue DRESS and red heels

Jeffrey Epstein had a bizarre portrait of Bill Clinton in a dress hanging in his Manhattan mansion, DailyMailTV can reveal.

The picture depicting the former president apparently lounging on a chair in the Oval Office, wearing red heels and posing suggestively in a blue dress redolent of Monica Lewinsky was in a room off the stairway of the Upper East Side townhouse.

The dress is also strikingly similar to one worn by Hillary Clinton at the 2009 Kennedy Center Honors.

The original painting is called 'Parsing Bill' and is by Australian-American artist Petrina Ryan-Kleid, although it is unclear if Epstein had bought the canvas or had a print mounted. Ryan-Kleid exhibited for her degree show when she graduated with an MFA in 2012 from the New York Academy of Art.

Shootings at Two Texas ICE Facilities Were ‘Targeted’ Attacks, Says FBI

Officials from the FBI and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) say that Tuesday’s shootings at two federal facilities were each a “targeted attack.” A shooter fired multiple rounds at two ICE facilities in San Antonio, Texas, early on Tuesday morning.

FBI and ICE officials said a shooter directly targeted two separate ICE facilities in northeast San Antonio at about 3 a.m. on Saturday morning. Officials report shots being fired into a 14th floor ICE office and another building operated by an ICE contractor, the KTSA radio reported.

“All the shots that we have found are on the floors where ICE had offices,” FBI Special Agent in Charge Christopher Combs told reporters during a Tuesday press conference. He said there is no question that the incidents were each a “targeted attack” that “could have resulted in the assassination of a federal employee.”

Popular ADHD Drugs Ritalin, Concerta May Change Structure Of Children’s Brains

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD, has become an incredibly common diagnosis in American children. ADHD is characterized by a lack of ability to focus and concentrate, and most children diagnosed with the condition end up being prescribed a medication. A new study offers a warning to parents, however: one of the most popular ADHD meds, Methylphenidate (MPH), may be affecting the development of white matter in children’s brains. The drug does not appear to have the same neurological effects in adults.

According to the CDC, roughly 5.2% of all American children between the ages of 2 and 17 are currently taking ADHD medication. Many of those children will continue to take these medications, everyday, well into adulthood.

MPH is usually prescribed and sold under the names Ritalin or Concerta, and while it has been shown to be effective in treating ADHD, there hasn’t been enough research performed on how it influences the development of children’s brains.

Alexander: Indoctrinating and Radicalizing Mass Murderers

After three decades of researching the pathology of mass shooters, I’m convinced that four primary factors are almost universally associated with these murderers: a sociopathic predisposition; a history of violent media saturation that indoctrinates and desensitizes them; an opening to be self- or group-radicalized within an echo chamber of ideological influencers; and the means and opportunity to commit a mass attack. Most of the political and media focus has, predictably, been on the fourth factor — removing the means and opportunity. But this ignores the urgency and the systemic nature of the first three factors — the cultural factors.

More on these cultural factors after a brief summary of the two most recent attacks and the political response.

The mass murders in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, should concern all Americans. But our concern should be tempered by the reality that such attacks, while evoking highly emotive responses, are extremely rare in a country of 330 million people. Fortunately, they represent just a tiny fraction of our nation’s violent crime.

According to the FBI’s uniform crime reports on violent crime in 2018, the incidence of murder is declining, as are most other categories of crime. However, the public perception is that violent crime is on the rise and that “mass murders” are an almost daily occurrence. That perception is the result of the commercial wall-to-wall mass-media replays of sensational tragedies.

Jeffrey Epstein autopsy reveals broken bones in neck, cause of death pending: report

An autopsy on the body of Jeffrey Epstein revealed the convicted sex offender had several broken bones in his neck, including the hyoid bone, according to a report.

The hyoid bone, which is near the Adam’s apple, can be broken in a suicide by hanging -- especially in older people -- but is more common in strangulation murders, The Washington Post reported.

Epstein, 66, was found hanging in his cell in an “apparent suicide” at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York City on Saturday where he was being held on sex trafficking charges.

Attorney General Frosh Joins Lawsuit Against DHS “Public Charge” Rule

Under New Rule, Fewer Families and Children will Receive Food, Health Care and Shelter

BALTIMORE, MD – Maryland Attorney General Brian E. Frosh today joined 12 other attorneys general in filing a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Homeland Security over changes to the “public charge” rule that targets immigrants and their families. Under the changes, if an immigrant who is legally in the country uses benefits to which he or she is entitled ― such as food assistance to feed their U.S. citizen children or housing assistance ― even for a short time, the federal government may revoke their legal status, or even deport them.

Even if an individual does not use these benefits, the new rule expands the government’s ability to deny visa renewal or permanent residency to anyone they predict will use a broad range of short-term benefits, without any clear formula for making that determination.

Federal law allows many lawful immigrants to apply for public benefits if they have been in the country for at least five years. The new rule creates a “bait-and-switch” ― potentially punishing qualified immigrants for using the public assistance to which they are legally entitled..

“Wealth has never been, and should not now be, the primary determinant of an immigrant’s status in America,” said Attorney General Frosh. “America has always stood as a beacon of hope for those looking for a better life, and immigrants have lifted our country up as we have given them refuge. The ‘public charge’ rule is unlawful and un-American, and it jeopardizes the health and welfare of children and families.”

Montgomery County leaders, residents weigh in after two undocumented immigrants charged with raping girl

ROCKVILLE, Md. (FOX 5 DC) - FOX 5 is hearing on camera for the first time from Montgomery County leaders and residents after two undocumented immigrants from El Salvador reportedly raped an 11-year-old girl repeatedly in Germantown.

The county is now blaming the federal government and refusing to weigh in on if its sanctuary atmosphere attracted the two suspects to the area.

“If the system failed, it failed on the federal government,” said Barry Hudson, Public Information Director.

OCEAN CITY – Surfers Healing returned to the beaches of Ocean City this week for the 10th annual day-long surf camp for children with autism.

On Wednesday, more than 200 children, their families and surfers from Hawaii, New Zealand and California gathered on the beach in front of the Castle in the Sand Hotel for Ocean City’s 10th annual Surfers Healing camp.

Founders Israel and Danielle Paskowitz started the organization in 1996 as a way to help and connect with their youngest son, who has autism. Israel Paskowitz found that surfing calmed his son and soon began inviting other families to join them. Since that time, Surfers Healing has expanded to several yearly events around the nation and in other countries.

Camp Co-Director Kat Trammell shared her efforts to bring Surfers Healing to Ocean City more than a decade ago. She noted the impact the event had on her own son.
