A Viewer Writes: What A Load Of Crap

The leaders of Maryland’s five General Assembly caucuses are preparing for what they say will be a busy legislative session across the board.

In addition to party caucuses in each chamber of the legislature, there are the caucuses representing the interests of African-Americans, Asian-Americans and Pacific islanders, Latinos, veterans, and women. All are drafting and planning bills and votes to meet their missions.

Here’s what you can expect from the five groups going into the 2019 session that begins Jan. 9:

Maryland Legislative Latino Caucus

Health care, immigration, education and criminal justice will remain the group’s primary focuses in 2019, Del. Joseline Pena-Melnyk said. The Prince George’s County Democrat will serve as the caucus vice chairwoman.

Founded in December 2014, the caucus was made up of 25 members during the 2018 session.

In addition to working to maintain the provisions of the Affordable Care Act, the group will push for an individual mandate down payment bill. It would require people in Maryland to pay a fine if they don’t have health insurance, but it would let them use the fine to make a down payment on a health insurance plan. The caucus also plans to work toward bills that protect coverage for people with pre-existing conditions and make prescription drugs affordable.

Pena-Melnyk said the caucus will support a “U-Visa” bill that would provide a pathway to citizenship for victims of crime who cooperate with local law enforcement. A similiar bill made it to the state Senate floor in 2018, but didn’t pass, she said. The caucus members also plan to bring back a Trust Act, which would prohibit the use of state or local resources to help with immigration enforcement.

The caucus will also support legislation to combat hate crimes, including a bill already filed by Anne Arundel County Democrat Del. Mark Chang that would ban the use of a noose or swastika to threaten or intimidate someone.

Other priorities include banning 3-D printed guns in the state, passing bills to help young people transition from jail or prison to the community, raising the minimum wage to $15, and other civil rights initiatives that could counteract some of the Trump administration’s policies.

“Now more than ever, it’s important to have a caucus that is working to protect its members,” Pena-Melnyk said. “It’s a tough time for the immigrant community because of what’s happening in Washington.”

Women Legislators of Maryland

Del. Sheree Sample-Hughes, a Democrat representing Dorchester and Wicomico counties, will serve as the group’s president in 2019.

She said the caucus will have a retreat to determine keystone issues for the coming session.

In 2018, 76 members were part of the group, but Sample-Hughes expects that number to grow with the influx of more women to the Maryland legislature.

Sample-Hughes said the caucus wants to place a larger focus on the needs of female veterans and the elderly, which might include conducting assessments to determine where there are gaps in state services.

The group also plans to continue its work in rooting out and preventing workplace harassment, Sample-Hughes said.

She said she’s proud of efforts in 2018 to allow courts to terminate parental rights of rapists and to boost state spending on the daycare voucher program.

“We were successful on a lot of bills last year. We were at the helm,” Sample-Hughes said of the 2018 session.

Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland

The caucus, among the largest black legislative groups in the country, is focusing on raising the age threshold required to purchase tobacco to 21 years old, increasing the hourly minimum wage in the state to $15, and promoting initiatives aimed at enhancing reading and financial literacy among youths, said Prince George’s County Democrat Del. Darryl Barnes.

Barnes, who chairs the caucus, said economic development and growth of small businesses will be important, as well, especially as they relate to the federal opportunity zones being implemented throughout the state.

He added that the group “is willing to work with anyone with the same ideology.”

In 2018, 59 members were active in the caucus.

Barnes said he’s proud of the caucus’ efforts supporting Maryland’s new medical marijuana industry and looks forward to discussions to further address issues regarding the growth of such businesses.

Del. Dereck Davis, of Prince George’s County, said he plans to introduce the legislation that would raise the minimum age to buy cigarettes to 21.

“We all know cigarettes are harmful,” Davis said. “The question is: Do we have the will to take on the tobacco industry?”
Maryland Veterans Caucus

Sen. Will Smith, a Montgomery County Democrat, chairs the caucus, which he said aims to make Maryland the most veteran-friendly state in the nation.

In November 2017, the caucus held a daylong summit in Annapolis, inviting speakers from various advocacy groups to share their ideas. The group hopes to hold another summit in 2019.

Smith said a priority is having the caucus get successfully reconstituted and getting new members up to speed. Made up of 87 active members in 2018, the caucus was founded in 2004.

He said the group made strides in 2018 in getting veterans exempted from paying certain taxes.

In the 2019 session, Smith also said caucus members hope to pass a bill to help military spouses who move to Maryland transfer their professional licenses to the state.

The group also wants to increase suicide prevention and awareness efforts within their community.

“There are ways we can help with counseling, making information available to them, and making our government a place where information and assistance is available,” Smith said.
Maryland Legislative Asian-American & Pacific-Islander Caucus

As Maryland’s newest caucus, the group’s members say they’re encouraged by growing membership numbers and feedback from the various minority communities they serve. In 2018, the group had eight members.

Michael Lore, executive director, said the caucus tends to focus on socio-economic issues related to small business, since there exists a “disproportionate amount” of Asian-led businesses in the state.

Sen. Susan Lee, a Montgomery County Democrat who chairs the caucus, said the group has previously partnered with the Legislative Black and Latino caucuses on issues such as bail reform and health care, and hopes to continue working with them.

She said while her caucus does not have a specific priorities list drafted yet, she wants to partner with the other caucuses on moving the Trust Act forward.

FACT CHECK: DID TRUMP REVEAL A ‘COVERT’ SEAL TEAM?

An article published in Newsweek on Dec. 26 claimed that President Donald Trump had revealed a covert Navy Seal team with a video he posted to his Twitter account.

“Donald Trump Twitter Account Video Reveals Covert U.S. Navy SEAL Deployment During Iraq Visit,” reads the headline.

Verdict: False

The unit and soldiers shown on Trump’s Twitter account are not “covert” operators, according to former American special force members and military experts. However, some still believe the photos and videos may pose a security threat.

Police Arrest 7 For Helping Illegal Alien Cop-Killer, All 7 Are Illegal Aliens: Report

California law enforcement officials arrested seven additional suspects connected to alleged illegal alien cop-killer Gustavo Perez Arriaga last week — all of whom are purported illegal aliens — for allegedly helping him evade capture.

"Police say, in all, seven people are in custody, accused of assisting the suspect in evading police, including two of Arriaga's brothers and his girlfriend," ABC News reported on Saturday night, according to NewsBusters. "Authorities telling ABC News, all of them -- as well as Arriaga -- in the U.S. illegally."

GOP Rep. Brooks: How Much American Blood on Hands of Pelosi, Schumer Before They Help with Border Security?

Sunday on WAAY’s “Guerrilla Politics,” Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) said the government shutdown will end when the amount of “American blood” on the hands of Democratic leadership becomes overwhelming.

Brooks said, “It is a very tough position that the Democrats have put us in. On the one hand you have got thousands of Americans who are dead each year because of the Democrats’ refusal to secure the border. Those Americans are dying either because they have been murdered by illegal aliens, vehicular homicides by illegal aliens or the illegal narcotics that are shipped into the country by illegal aliens and their drug cartels with the drug overdoses that are in the tens of thousands of lost American lives per year.”

Did The U.S. Military Just Admit Victory In Afghanistan Is Impossible?

In the week before President Donald Trump’s reported decision to abruptly withdraw 7,000 U.S. service members from Afghanistan, the top U.S. commander there all but admitted that the 17-year-old war there will not end with a military victory for the Pentagon.

“This fight will go until a political settlement,” Army Gen. Scott Miller, the commander of U.S. Forces-Afghanistan and the Resolute Support mission there, told CNN when asked whether the Afghan campaign against the Taliban had reached a stalemate.

“These are two sides that are fighting against one another, and neither one of them will achieve a military victory at this stage.”

In the same interview, U.S. ambassador to Afghanistan John Bass concurred with Miller’s assessment, cautioning that U.S. and Afghan officials will face a complicated diplomatic situation given the Talian’s aggressive rejection of the current administration in Kabul.

“We have an opportunity today that we didn’t have six or 12 months ago to see if it’s truly possible to achieve that political settlement,” Bass told CNN.

“We don’t know if we’re going to be successful. We have to see if the Taliban is interested in responding to the deep desire of the Afghanistan people for peace.”

Alabama sheriff pocketed $1.5M from illegal immigrant fund: report

An Alabama sheriff has personally pocketed $1.5 million in federal funds intended to feed illegal immigrants housed in a detention center he runs — and it was all legit, according to a report.

Sheriff Todd Entrekin acknowledged last March that he kept more than $750,000 in unspent food money at the Etowah County Detention Center between January 2015 and December 2017.

But records show he actually took in twice that amount, AL.com reported on Sunday.

Entrekin, like many Alabama sheriffs, used a Depression-era state law that allows them to keep funds meant for jail food, but Entrekin is the only one who detains illegal immigrants for the federal government.

Terry McAuliffe: I'm 'obviously looking' at running for president in 2020

Former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe previewed a possible 2020 Democratic presidential primary stump speech Sunday in which he voiced support for a practical form of "Medicare for all."

McAuliffe, who also served as Democratic National Committee chair in the early 2000s, said Sunday he was "obviously looking" at contesting the party's nomination to challenge President Trump, whom he described as being “too emotional” and “unstable” for the White House.

“I've 40 years of working for this party. I've plenty of friends in many states. So I don't have to rush into this," McAuliffe said during an interview on CNN's "State of the Union." "Here's the message for Democrats. They don't want an angry liar in the White House. They want someone who is compulsively optimistic and realistic. And the Democrats have to lay out an agenda of success of what we plan to do.”

Muslim Doctor Fired From Ohio Clinic After Claiming She Will Purposely Give Jewish Patients Wrong Medication!

Lara Kollab, 27, was a supervised resident at the Cleveland Clinic — she must be one of those ‘moderates’ we keep hearing about.

“Hahha ewww… ill (sic) purposely give all the yahood the wrong meds…” Kollab posted in a January 2012 tweet.

“Yahood” is Arabic for “Jew.”

The Cleveland Clinic released a statement on Monday, via Cleveland 19 News:

“This individual was employed as a supervised resident at our hospital from July to September 2018. She is no longer working at Cleveland Clinic. In no way do these beliefs reflect those of our organization. We fully embrace diversity, inclusion and a culture of safety and respect across our entire health system.”

According to reports, Kollab’s medical license remains active; her license was issued in Cuyahoga County in July 2018, it is valid until June 2021.

Former FBI Investigation Expert: Steele Dossier Is So Problematic for FBI It Will Never See a Courtroom Because It Is So Flawed!

A former expert in dealing with ‘snitches’ notes that the Steele dossier will never be used in the court of law. The document is so bogus, from such a contaminated source that it would be laughed out of court.

An expert from the government provided us some information regarding the Steele dossier. This individual prefers to remain anonymous. This individual used to ‘run snitches’ like Christopher Steele –

Ordinarily, we’d put our snitches on a tight leash anyway because we never trusted them, and the moment they gave you issues, you had to have discussions on whether to keep them around or not because we knew the defense would use that information to discredit that snitch’s testimony in court, and we knew it would be successful. Without corroborating evidence for everything that snitch said, that testimony would be completely useless to us, which meant we had to put that snitch on an even tighter leash than normal if we kept them around.

So then we look to see what sort of tight leash they had Steele on, but it looks like most of the interactions with the FBI were initiated by Steele, not the other way around. What sort of corroborations of his “evidence” were they doing along the way? We see nothing. As a matter of fact, Steele, if he was “credible,” would be dealing with all his same contacts in the FBI, continuing on that relationship, but Steele doesn’t do that. Instead, he goes to an outside source first, Ohr and Gaeta (in Rome who has contacts with the State Department). That’s because Steele burnt his contacts at the FBI, and he needs outside pressure placed on the FBI to get them to take him seriously.

That’s why you know that this dossier will never see the inside of a courtroom because they know that even a paralegal could completely discredit it. Instead of telling the FISA Court that their source was compromised, they instead billed him as a “trustworthy” source. They knew he was compromised, and they knew who was paying Steele, which compromised him even more.

To this day there is no information that anything in the Steele dossier is accurate. The dossier states many things but none are confirmed. It appears all made up. For example, the dossier states that President Trump’s former attorney Michael Cohen was in Prague where he met with Russians before the election. The problem is Cohen states he has never been to Prague and his passport could easily verify this. (It’s suspected that Steele used information on a different Michael Cohen in his report or just made it up. If he did use information on a different Michael Cohen how did he get it?)

Your Tax Dollars At Work: Govt Officially Forgiving Student Debt

When all the tribes of Israel still lived in their holy land, they practiced something called the Jubilee.

According to the Book of Leviticus, the Jubilee existed because the Israeli land actually belonged to their god Yahweh…. and the current owners were just borrowing it (sounds like land ownership today – try not paying your property taxes and see who really owns your land).

So every 49 years, the Israelites would celebrate by freeing slaves, redistributing property and forgiving debts.

Of course, a 49-year cycle where debt is forgiven and land is returned to previous owners is ridiculous… markets can’t function under this system. Imagine buying a piece of land and not knowing if you have to give it back down the road… or lending someone money with the possibility that those debts just disappear and you get nothing back for the risk you took.

The Jubilee originated sometime around 1406 BC, so you would think it’s ancient history.

Trump: Only Warren's Psychiatrist Knows Whether She Thinks She Can Win In 2020

In the first published excerpt from a telephone interview with Fox's Pete Hegseth that is set to air tonight during the cable news channel's New Year's Eve coverage, President Trump mocked Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who earlier today became the first Democratic contender to formally plan a run for the 2020 Democratic nomination. Asked by Hegseth whether Warren really thinks she can defeat him in the general election, Trump responded "well, that I don't know...you’d have to ask her psychiatrist."

After Hegseth brought up Warren's announcement, Trump reminded viewers of an embarrassing political misstep from earlier this year when Warren angered Native American tribes by releasing the results of a DNA test that showed she had almost no Native American heritage - inadvertently validating the president's doubts about her claims of Native American heritage. The test showed that Warren may have had a Native American ancestor between six and ten generations ago, meaning she could be as little as 1/1,024th Native.

"Elizabeth Warren will be the first," Trump told Hegseth in the phone interview. "She did very badly in proving that she was of Indian heritage. That didn't work out too well."

"I think you have more than she does, and maybe I do too, and I have nothing," Trump said, referring to tribal heritage. "So, we’ll see how she does. I wish her well, I hope she does well, I’d love to run against her."

Trump’s Historic Impact on Judiciary in 2018 Promises Even Greater Gains

President Donald Trump has had as much impact on the third branch of government in two years as most presidents have in two full terms, and the new Senate opens the door for the second half of his first term to be even more significant than the first half.

The Senate in 2018 confirmed 67 federal judges to lifetime appointments: one Supreme Court justice, 18 judges to the U.S. courts of appeals, and 48 judges to the federal district courts (which is where trials are conducted).

Combined with the 2017 number, this is a phenomenal total of 85 new federal judges: two Supreme Court justices, 30 appellate judges, and 53 trial judges. The total of 30 for the circuit courts of appeals breaks the previous all-time two-year record of 23, marking a historic achievement by President Trump and Senate Republicans.

Homicides spike in DC and Baltimore, defying downward trend in other big cities

Homicides surged about 40 percent last year in the nation's capital while nearby Baltimore continued to notch almost one killing per day — defying the downward trend in other big U.S. cities.

According to The Washington Post, a total of 160 homicides as of Monday night was driven by the more frequent use of guns in crimes.

Law enforcement officials told the newspaper that petty disputes between people who already know each other and are armed account for many of D.C.'s killings.

Despite that, the city also saw its share of heartbreaking, seemingly random deaths.

One especially wrenching c ase involved a 10-year-old girl named Makiyah Wilson who was shot and killed as she clutched a $5 bill to buy a treat from an ice cream truck in July. Police have made several arrests in that case.

"I'm horrified," Langston Civic Association President Sydelle Moore told WJLA regarding the homicide spike. "Everyone is afraid."

Officials would like to see the homicide trend change in 2019.

“When you look at our known homicide offenders in the city, about 40 percent of those have a prior gun arrest,” D.C. Police Chief Peter Newsham told the Post. “At all levels of the criminal justice system, we have to do better.”

Neighboring Baltimore has reportedly seen the greatest raw number increase in killings of any other city than Chicago, which has four times the population.

In 2011, there were 211 homicides in Baltimore; by last year, that number had risen to 307.

Social Commentator: Be Prepared For Civil Disorder In 2019

Hyperinflation due to money printing will cause “incendiary resentment” amongst Americans

Author and social commentator James Howard Kunstler is warning Americans to “be prepared” for civil disorder in 2019 which will arise out of a potential economic collapse.

Kunstler, who contributes to the The Atlantic Monthly, RollingStone and The New York Times Sunday Magazine, is forecasting civil unrest over the coming 12 months.

“Be prepared for it in 2019,” he writes. “There are going to be a lot of pissed-off people around the country. They are liable to attack Federal property and their fellow citizens (and their property). The hungrier they are, the worse it will be.”

Kunstler warns that before the year is out, “the US could find itself in a situation worse than the Great Depression” because the Federal Reserve will be forced to oversee a new round of quantitative easing in the second quarter of 2019, a policy that will cause the dollar to lose value “uncontrollably and catastrophically,” wiping out pension funds.

The debt bubble inflated by the Fed will mandate money printing, leading to “incendiary resentment among the citizenry when they realize they’ve been played and it takes a wheelbarrow full of cash to buy a loaf of bread and a jar of peanut butter,” according to Kunstler, who says the entire disaster will be blamed on President Trump.

NYT whitewashes anti-Semitism of incoming House Democrat Ilhan Omar

In a glowing profile of representative-elect Ilhan Omar, the New York Times portrays her critics as merely scared of somebody different, all the while glossing over her misrepresentation of her position on Israel and record of unapologetically peddling anti-Semitic conspiracy theories.

The article depicts Omar, who is set to take over the seat previously held by Rep. Keith Ellison, as somebody defiant in the face of prejudice.

It starts off with an anecdote of her getting bullied as a 12 year-old Somali immigrant in Virginia and her father telling her, "They are doing something to you because they feel threatened in some way by your existence.”

That becomes a framing device for the story, which is an attempt to discredit her critics by lumping them all together with racists and conspiracy mongers.

The Times describes Omar as "a vehicle for the hopes of millions of Muslims and others touched by her life story, and for the fears of those who feel threatened by her."

Global Revolt Against Climate Change Policies

Despite increasingly apocalyptic warnings from U.N. officials, 2018 has seen a number of high-profile defeats for policies aimed at fighting global warming. Politicians and voters pushed back at attempts to raise energy prices as part of the climate crusade.

It started in June with election of Ontario Premier Doug Ford. Ontario residents overwhelmingly voted Ford’s conservative coalition into power on a platform that included axing the Canadian province’s cap-and-trade program.

Ford said his first priority upon taking office would be to “cancel the Liberal cap-and-trade carbon tax.” Ford then joined a legal challenge led by Saskatchewan against Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s policy of a central government-imposed carbon tax on provinces that don’t have their own.

Carbon tax opponents called Trudeau’s plan an attempt to “use the new tax to further redistribute income, which will increase the costs of this tax to the economy.”

Roughly ten thousand miles away in Australia another revolt was brewing. Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull saw his power base crumble within days of failing to pass a bill aimed at reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

Back in the U.S., $45 million was being pumped into the battle over a Washington state carbon tax ballot measure. Democratic Gov. Jay Inslee, who has 2020 presidential ambitions, supported the measure though refiners, but other opponents outspent carbon tax supporters.

The federal courts have shut down our ENTIRE government

Amid the imbroglio over a partial furloughing of nonessential workers in a handful of federal departments, the political class has ignored that the government has already been shut down – in full and permanently. Individual district judges now control our national sovereignty, border policy, and every other political question. And now Chief Justice John Roberts has essentially barred the doors of the Supreme Court shut to any judicial redress of this judicial crisis.

Just as reporters were going offline last Friday for the Christmas holiday, the Supreme Court announced that it had denied the government’s request to overturn a universal injunction on Trump’s commonsense asylum policy directing the flow of “asylum requests” to our points of entry. Northern California District Judge Jon Tigar and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals violated all rules of standing, 200 years of precedent, and John Roberts’ own recent opinion on presidential power to regulate or exclude entry into the country, yet Roberts refused to join the four conservatives in summarily staying the injunction.

In once again allowing the lower courts to reign freely, Roberts is not only perpetuating the shutdown of our border but the shutdown of the Supreme Court itself. What is the purpose of the Supreme Court if it only encroaches on the powers of the other branches but won’t police its own inferior courts when they violate all legal norms? Let’s review the unprecedented insanity of this case:

1) Four left-wing advocacy groups were given standing to sue on behalf of caravans that are literally not even in our country simply because they asserted that their institutions must expend more resources educating their clients on the new policy. It would be equivalent to Conservative Review obtaining standing because we have to expend more resources explaining the new policies we don’t like to our readers. This is perhaps the most absurd violation of Article III standing in recent memory, yet Roberts allows it to continue. Putting immigration aside, the precedent this will set on the parameters of standing will ensure that almost any political group can sue any abstract policy without any valid personal injury.

Hillary Clinton Wraps Up Year: 2018 ‘A Dark Time For Our Country’

2018 saw Middle East wars ending, record economic and job growth, forging NKorea peace — and still no Russia collusion

Two-time presidential loser Hillary Clinton lamented 2018 as a “dark time for our country,” despite record job growth, drawdown of Middle East wars, tentative peace with North Korea, and still no evidence of Russian collusion.

“In many ways, 2018 was a dark time for our country,” Clinton said on Instagram on Monday.

“As it ends, I’m grateful to everyone who brought light into it: activists who protected kids at the border, journalists who stood up for truth, organizers who mobilized voters for the 2018 elections, candidates who ran races with grit and inspiration, voters who made their voices heard, and absolutely everyone who marched, donated, called, and protested to fight for the values we share.”

“Here’s to more light in 2019, and to a shared commitment to make it as bright as possible. Happy New Year,” she added.

You might expect such slick public relations work from Planned Parenthood, the nation's biggest abortion franchise, which performs more than one-third of all abortions in the United States. Hearing it from a trained medical doctor, however, is confusing, to say the least. Wen has even pointed to her time as Baltimore’s health commissioner, touting her role there as “doctor to the city,” to establish her credentials as someone who really cares about your health.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Just ask women in Baltimore.

Martin Armstrong Exposes The Dick Cheney / Donald Rumsfeld Conspiracy

I went to go watch VICE – the story about how Dick Cheney took over the government with the aid of his wife – Lynne Cheney. Vice is a film that seeks to bring complicated information about the inner corruption in Washington and transform it into a digestible and entertaining format. There is no question that Christian Bale delivered a very impressive performance of how Dick Cheney really is – a secretive and distant man whose eyes were always filled with naked contempt. Amy Adams gave a fantastic performance as well and captured the real character of the former Second Lady Lynne Cheney who was very much like her husband – ambitious, and equally just as ruthless.

While the film captures the reality of what took place, it completely misses the real story behind the scenes as to even how Cheney came to be Vice President. The film shows that he was out of politics and had effectively retired for some time. It pretends that George Bush called him to be his Vice President and they negotiate that Cheney will have most of the power and Bush was too stupid to understand what he was agreeing to.

Brazil's New President Vows To "Fight The Marxist Trash" in 2019

Brazil's new president Jair Bolsonaro does not mince words. On the eve of his ascension, the right-wing politician and former paratrooper announced over Twitter that he would issue an immediate decree easing gun laws and will work to "fight the Marxist trash" be says is being taught in Brazil's classrooms, according to France24.

The announcements underlined Bolsonaro's desire to break with decades of center-left rule in Brazil, as he prepares to take over from President Michel Temer, a center-right caretaker figure who served the past two years and finished with historic unpopularity.

They also reinforced the similarity between Bolsonaro and US President Donald Trump, who has taken pride in keeping many of his own promises to his base regardless of the bitter national disunity that has resulted.

Bolsonaro, 63, won election in October on an anti-crime, anti-corruption platform.

He triumphed against a candidate from the left-wing Workers Party, which had held the presidency between 2003 and 2016 before graft and financial mismanagement soured its image with voters. A tepid exit from a record-busting recession also spurred appetite for change. -France24

Black Lawmakers’ Charity Didn’t Give Out A Single Scholarship, Top Pols Hide Financials

The caucus of black New York state lawmakers runs a charity whose stated mission is to empower “African American and Latino youth through education and leadership initiatives” by “providing opportunity to higher education” — but it hasn’t given a single scholarship to needy youth in two years, according to a New York Post investigation.

The group collects money from companies like AT&T, the Real Estate Board of New York, Time Warner Cable and CableVision, telling them in promotional materials that they are “changing lives, one scholarship at a time.”

The group — called the Association of Black and Puerto Rican Legislators, Inc. — instead spent $500,000 in the 2015 – 2016 fiscal year on items like food, limousines and rap music, the Post found.

The politicians refused to divulge the charity’s 2017 tax filing to the Post despite federal requirements that charities do so upon request.

'Violent mob' repelled in attempt to storm U.S. border in San Diego

A “violent mob” of illegal immigrants tried to ring in the new year by rushing the border in California and Border Patrol agents fired tear gas at them to repel the incursion, Homeland Security officials said Tuesday.

About 150 people were involved in the attempt to climb over burrow under a section of border fence in San Diego on New Year’s Eve night. After they were blocked one group grew more combative, firing rocks over the border to try to hit agents.

The Border Patrol fired tear gas, smoke and pepper spray rounds at the group of rock-throwers, said Customs and Border Protection.

The migrants said they were part of the caravan of people from Central America who arrived at the border over the last couple of months, escalating what had already been a strained border security regime.

“Once again we have had a violent mob of migrants attempt to enter the United States illegally by attacking our agents with projectiles,” said Katie Waldman, a Homeland Security spokeswoman. “The agents involved should be applauded for handling the situation with no reported injuries to the attackers.”

In addition to rock-throwers, the migrants also began to try to push women and children from among their group forward onto the border boundary, U.S. officials said, forcing some juveniles to climb over razor wire that the American government has posted in recent weeks as a deterrent to unruly crowds itching to jump the border.

Ms. Waldman said the migrants appeared to be trying to stage a photo-op of their actions in front of “conveniently invited media.”
