Letter to the Editor 4-11-18

Dear Editor,

Yesterday morning (April 10, 2018) the Fruitland Volunteer Fire Company got alerted to an MVC on St. Lukes Road and the scratched. They had to be re-alerted a couple of times and they never got out. Station 1 Salisbury was dispatched and Truck 1 responded to the scene and took command, stood around and returned to Salisbury.

That dispatch cost the County taxpayers twice because Fruitland was already paid to cover that call and they refused to respond. The refused and were already paid by the county. Sad!

What is also sad is that Fire Chief Robin Townsend and their president sent letters to the County Executive and the County Council demanding that the Station 13 volunteers were NOT to be sent as mutual aid to their calls.

Fruitland and Parsonsburg have to be re-alerted over and over again and if Station 13 volunteers were automatically dual dispatched with them at least someone would be able to get out and respond.

Every time the Salisbury Fire Department has to respond to these scratches by Parsonsburg and Fruitland it is costing the taxpayers thousands of dollars.

It's time for Bob Culver to get these volunteer stations in line with National Standards and more than anything the quality and safety the taxpayers of Wicomico County deserve.

Farmer gets jail time in cruelty case involving 70 dead cows

HOWELL, Mich. –
A Michigan farmer charged with animal cruelty after about 70 cows were found dead on his properties has been sentenced to 15 days in jail and ordered to pay nearly $20,000 in restitution.

Sixty-one-year-old Keith E. Huck Jr. of Livingston County's Cohoctah Township learned his punishment Monday after earlier pleading guilty to reduced charges, including animal abandonment and failure to bury a dead animal.

The Livingston Daily Press & Argus reports Huck told the court it was how he makes a living and "just a big loss."

Huck was charged last year after cows were found in what authorities described as various states of decay. Officials say three pigs and five cows were recovered alive from barns on properties owned by Huck about 50 miles (80 kilometers) northwest of Detroit.

Loretta Lynch: I Did Not Discuss Hillary Clinton's Case with Bill Clinton During Secret Airport Meeting

Former Attorney General Loretta Lynch insists she did not discuss Hillary Clinton’s case with former President Bill Clinton when they met secretly on an airport tarmac.

Lynch told NBC News in an interview scheduled to air Monday night that she did not bring up the subject of Hillary Clinton’s investigation during her July 2016 secret meeting with Bill Clinton on a tarmac at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in Arizona months before the 2016 presidential election.

The FBI investigated Hillary Clinton’s use of a private, unsecured email server while she served as secretary of state because the server held classified information.

It is true that “my speaking to the former president raised concerns in people’s minds about whether or not there was going to be any impact on the email investigation,” Lynch said, adding that the two spoke about “innocuous things.”

Study Finds Berlin Fire Company ‘Not Sufficiently Funded’ For Services Provided

BERLIN – The consulting firm tasked with studying Berlin Fire Company funding released a report this week identifying more than two dozen recommendations for the organization.

On Tuesday, Berlin officials released the fire and emergency medical services funding study completed by Matrix Consulting Group. The firm recommends numerous changes, ranging from reducing use of the outdoor warning siren to providing the town with a five-year financial plan, for the Berlin Fire Company (BFC).

“It’s quite comprehensive,” Mayor Gee Williams said. “I think I can say with confidence the funding study addressed all the topics and subjects of concern or of interest to the Town of Berlin.”

The 88-page document provides recommendations for the fire company in regard to operations, financial resources, organizational structure, operational management and physical resources. The “overarching” issues identified in the report relate to funding and the lack of a formal agreement between the town and the fire company.

London's Mayor Declares Intense New 'Knife Control' Policies

An epidemic of stabbings and acid attacks in London has gotten so bad that London mayor Sadiq Khan is announcing broad new "knife control" policies designed to keep these weapons of war out of the hands of Londoners looking to cause others harm.

The "tough, immediate" measures involve an incredible police crackdown, a ban on home deliveries of knives and acid, and expanding law enforcement stop-and-search powers so that police may stop anyone they believe to be a threat, or planning a knife or acid attack.

Khan announced Friday that the city has created a "violent crime task force of 120 officers" tasked with rooting out knife-wielding individuals in public spaces, and is pumping nearly $50 million into the Metropolitan Police department so that they can better arm themselves against knife attacks.

Los Angeles painting city streets white in bid to combat climate change

Publishers Notes: I wonder how long the paint will last.......and once it starts to flake how much will end up in the waterways. It's no wonder they call Californians "FLAKES".

California officials are hoping their latest attempt to stem the rising tides of climate change leads to a more socially conscious -- and cooler -- summer.

Officials in Los Angeles have been painting streets white to reduce the effect of urban "heat islands" and combat the effects of climate change.

The LA Street Services began rolling out the project last May, which preliminary testing shows has reduced the temperature of roadways by up to 10 degrees. The project involves applying a light gray coating of the product CoolSeal, made by the company GuardTop.

DC cannabis activist moves to Md. to vote congressman out of office

WASHINGTON — A D.C. activist has moved to Maryland because he has had enough of lawmakers from outside the District trying to stifle the will of D.C. residents.

He aims to use the ballot box to unseat a congressman.

This November, Adam Eidinger wants voters to oust Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD), the incumbent of Maryland’s First Congressional District.

Eidinger recently moved to Salisbury, Maryland, where he has an apartment and his voting residence; he still maintains a home in D.C.

‘Unsafe to the community’: Facebook takes on pro-Trump Diamond and Silk

The hilarious duo of Diamond and Silk is a danger to society.

That’s according to Facebook.

The pro-Trump pair posted on the embattled social media platform on Friday night, saying after months of correspondence, they were deemed to be “unsafe to the community.”

“Diamond And Silk have been corresponding since September 7, 2017 with Facebook (owned by Mark Zuckerberg) about their bias censorship and discrimination against D&S brand page,” they wrote.

“Finally after several emails, chats, phone calls, appeals, beating around the bush, lies, and giving us the run around, Facebook gave us another bogus reason why Millions of people who have liked and/or followed our page no longer receives notification and why our page, post and video reach was reduced by a very large percentage,” (echoing the complaints of many conservative and pro-Trump pages.)

Here is the reply from Facebook. Thu, Apr 5, 2018 at 3:40 PM:

“The Policy team has came to the conclusion that your content and your brand has been determined unsafe to the community.”

Maryland Legislature Approves 'Bump Stock' Ban

The Maryland General Assembly has approved a ban on “bump stocks,” devices that allow rapid firing of semi-automatic rifles, making them almost as fast as fully automatic weapons. Republican Gov. Larry Hogan has said he will sign it.

The device was used in the mass shooting at an outdoor country music concert in Las Vegas last year that killed 58 and wounded more than 800. Since then, many states have considered banning bump stocks. Massachusetts, New Jersey, Washington, Florida and now Maryland have passed laws banning sales of the devices. Legislation has failed in other states, however, including Tennessee where it was rejected this week.

Prior to the Las Vegas shooting, bump stock bans had a hard time getting through state legislatures.

"Witch Hunt" Escalates As Prosecutors Ask Trump Org For Stormy Daniels' Documents

Following what we now know was an FBI raid on Trump's lawayer's offices to gather documents related to payments to women who claimed to have an affair with President Trump, The Wall Street Journal reports that sources say federal prosecutors in New York have asked the Trump Organization for records relating to a $130,000 payment made by his personal lawyer to a former adult-film actress.

The NY Times just confirmed that the raid on Trump's lawyer's office was related to payments to various women claiming to have had an affair with the President.

And now WSJ reports that the request of the Trump Organization came in connection with those raids by the Federal Bureau of Investigation Monday on the office, hotel room and home of Trump lawyer Michael Cohen.

As a reminder, Mr. Cohen made the payment to Stephanie Clifford, a former porn star known professionally as Stormy Daniels, less than two weeks before the 2016 presidential election.

The payment was in exchange for Ms. Clifford’s signing a nondisclosure agreement about an alleged sexual encounter with Mr. Trump in 2006.

Mr. Cohen and White House representatives have denied any sexual encounter took place between Mr. Trump and Ms. Clifford. Mr. Trump said publicly last week he was unaware of the deal Mr. Cohen made with her, and that he didn’t know where the money came from.

Of course, there is no confirmation of this 'source':

Comey hints at damaging material involving ex-AG Lynch 'still unknown to the American public'

James Comey's cryptic reference in his new book to "a development still unknown to the American public" involving then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch and the Hillary Clinton email probe is sparking furious speculation inside and outside the Beltway.

According to ABC News, Comey writes in "A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies and Leadership," that he became the public face of the investigation partly because of the mysterious development which he felt could cast “serious doubt” on Lynch's independence.

“Had it become public, the unverified material would undoubtedly have been used by political opponents to cast serious doubt on the attorney general’s independence in connection with the Clinton investigation,” Comey writes, according to ABC. He calls the material a “development still unknown to the American public to this day.”
