Weekly Fishing Report: April 4

It continues to be a chilly spring and there seems to be no immediate end to it. We’re a week into April and water temperatures are considerably lower than usual — in the mid-40s in the tidal rivers and bay. By comparison, last April 5, the bay was just about 50 degrees and the tidal rivers were in the upper 50s.

Even so, just as trout fishermen anticipated the opening day of trout season last Saturday, striped bass fishermen are crossing off the days on their calendars until the opening of the trophy striped bass season April 21.

Before we get into this week’s fishing report, I want to remind everyone that they can submit their own fishing reports and photos to the Maryland Angler’s Log. To post a report, please email your name, hometown, photos, location and additional content for your report. All information is optional, but encouraged.

Christians and white people get 'unmerited perks,' live 'easier' lives, George Washington University seminar says

George Washington University is hosting a seminar on combating “Christian privilege” in America.

According to an event description, students in a 90-minute training session will learn about ways American Christians receive things they don’t deserve and are not worthy of getting: “How do we…acknowledge that Christians receive unmerited perks from institutions and systems all across our country?”

The Multicultural Student Services Center (MSSC) at GWU is hosting “Christian Privilege: But Our Founding Fathers Were All Christian, Right?!” Thursday as part of its “Excellence in Leadership Seminar,” as first reported by The Christian Post.

According to the website, MSSC Associate Director and LGBTQ Resources Director Timothy Kane will discuss how American Christians have “easier” lives and get “built-in advantages over non-Christians” as well as making “room for all religious and secular identities on an equal playing field.”

But the Christian privilege seminar doesn’t just focus on one religion, it also singles out a race: white people.

Rand Roasts Congress For Corrupt Votes

Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky claimed Tuesday on “Fox & Friends” that Congress will only call for votes if they already know the outcome in advance.

Paul was discussing immigration reform and said Congressional leaders had promised him an “open debate,” but did everything they could to stifle his proposed amendments.

“This is the sad thing about the Senate and Congress,” Paul said. “They will not vote on anything that they don’t count votes in advance and know it will be defeated. So they knew from the beginning nothing would happen. They devised the votes and would only allow votes that will actually fail. It was not an open debate.”

O'Malley: I added a Democrat to Congress but I hope Supreme Court ends partisan gerrymandering

I responded to GOP gerrymandering with my own, but I hope the Supreme Court ends partisan redistricting. It's polarizing Congress and America.

The Supreme Court is now considering challenges from two states on how we draw congressional districts: a Wisconsin map drawn by a Republican governor, and a Maryland map drawn by a Democratic governor — me.

We have historically allowed a partisan motive in redrawing these borders every 10 years to account for population growth and shifts. But now, at a time of deep division and polarization in our national politics, the court is re-examining that. It could end up reining in or maybe even disallowing partisan motives in redistricting.

For the sake of our democracy, I sincerely hope that's what the court does.

I was a re-elected governor of Maryland in 2010 on the eve of national redistricting. It was not a good year for Democrats. We lost governor’s races in quite a few states where Democratic voters actually outnumbered Republicans.

Trump Deploys Military to Stop Illegals at Border

We are going to be guarding our border with our military, president says

“We are going to be guarding our border with our military. That’s a big step,” Trump told reporters gathered at the White House. “We cannot have people flowing into our country illegally, disappearing, and by the way never showing up for court.”

The president’s comments appear to take aim at current U.S. policy which requires border agents to catch then release family units who arrive at the border from noncontiguous countries.

Trump Threatens To End NAFTA, Foreign Aid Unless "Immigrant Caravan" Is Stopped

For the third time in less than a week, Trump has sounded the alarm about the "huge caravan" of Latin American immigrants traveling through Mexico unobstructed by local authorities, and seeking asylum at the US border.

Previously, Trump used the caravan as an example of why his border wall needs to be built and also as an excuse to attack Democrats for their part in watering down border-security measures included in the $1.3 trillion omnibus spending bill. He's also attacked the Mexican government for ignoring the situation, ominously threatening to remember their negligence as NAFTA negotiations continue.

Today, he took his threats one step further by not only threatening to kill NAFTA - Mexico's "cash cow" - but also to cut off foreign aid to "Honduras and the countries that allow this to happen" before closing with: "Congress must act now!"
The big Caravan of People from Honduras, now coming across Mexico and heading to our “Weak Laws” Border, had better be stopped before it gets there. Cash cow NAFTA is in play, as is foreign aid to Honduras and the countries that allow this to happen. Congress MUST ACT NOW!

The migrants, mostly Guatemalans and Hondurans, are hoping to escape brutality and violence that proliferates in both countries: "The crime rate is horrible, you can't live there," a migrant named "Karen" told BuzzFeed News on the side of a highway near the Southern Mexico town of Huixtla. "After the president [was sworn in] it got worse. There were deaths, mobs, robbed homes, adults and kids were beaten up."

Caravan Releases List of DEMANDS

A caravan of 1,500 people funneling through Mexico towards the U.S. border have released a list of demands that President Trump is expected to comply with, including unfettered access to the United States.

Pueblo sin Fronteras, the political outreach group who organized the caravan, released a press statement for the United States, Mexico, and their respective Central American governments.

“We demand of the Mexico and the United States: that they respect our rights as refugees and our right to dignified work to be able to support our families,” the statements reads.

The second demand is “that they open the borders to us because we are as much citizens as the people of the countries where we are and/or travel.”

Caravan Organizers Vow to Continue March to US Border

Hours after it was reported that the Mexican government was putting an end to the illegal migrant caravan headed through Mexico to the United States, organizer Pueblos Sin Fronteras claimed the caravan would continue.

There were also reports the caravan would cross into the U.S. from Baja California.

Buzzfeed reporter Adolfo Flores as well as independent reporter Maya Averbuch both reported Monday night that the Mexican government was intervening to stop the caravan.

“Mexican immigration authorities said they plan on disbanding the Central American caravan by Wednesday in Oaxaca. The most vulnerable will get humanitarian visas.”

“Gina Garibo, an organizer with Pueblos Sin Fronteras, said the caravan was not over. They will continue to travel towards the US with asylum seekers. “We will continue,” Garibo said. “We have to follow through with our promise.”

Police 'Trained' to Withhold Key Facts in Investigations Amid Rape Injustice Scandal

Police are regularly withholding critical evidence in criminal cases where it might undermine their case, and some officers are ‘trained’ in the technique, which could be leading to miscarriages of justice.

The revelation comes after police and the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) were accused of deliberately trying to drive up conviction rates for certain crimes, and London police were forced to review all pending rape cases because of failures.

Over the past six months, a number of high profile rape cases have collapsed, after critical evidence proving the innocence of accused men was withheld from defence teams.

Fox News Defends Laura Ingraham

Laura Ingraham isn’t going anywhere.

That’s the message Fox News is sending amid a left-wing boycott campaign meant to oust the conservative Fox News host over a tweet.

“We cannot and will not allow voices to be censored by agenda-driven intimidation efforts,” Fox News co-president Jack Abernathy said in a statement to The Daily Caller News Foundation. “We look forward to having Laura Ingraham back, hosting her program next Monday when she returns from spring vacation with her children.”

Parkland high school student and gun control activist David Hogg called for an advertiser boycott after Ingraham knocked him on Twitter for complaining about colleges that rejected his applications. Ingraham apologized to Hogg on March 29, but he refused to accept the peace offering.

Attorney General Frosh Joins Coalition of Attorneys General in Filing Suit to Block

Trump Administration from Demanding Citizenship Info in 2020 Census

Citizenship Demand Would Depress Turnout in States with Large Immigrant Populations – Threatening States’ Fair Representation in Congress and Electoral College, as well as Billions in Critical Federal Funds

BALTIMORE, MD – Maryland Attorney General Brian E. Frosh, part of a coalition of 18 Attorneys General, six cities, and the bipartisan U.S. Conference of Mayors, today filed a lawsuit to block the Trump Administration from demanding citizenship information in the 2020 decennial Census. Demanding citizenship information would depress Census turnout in states with large immigrant populations, directly threatening those states’ fair representation in Congress and the Electoral College, as well as billions of dollars in critical federal funds for education, infrastructure, Medicaid, and more.

“The Trump Administration’s decision to demand citizenship information is an attempt to intimidate voters and to suppress the vote,” said Attorney General Frosh. “It will undermine the accuracy of the Census, result in the loss of federal funds for Maryland and deprive our state of fair representation in Congress. This maneuver will not withstand constitutional scrutiny.”

Christian-owned Bridal Shop Closes After Death Threats

“It’s been very hard on my family especially with the threats against the children,” co-owner Lisa Boucher said on the Todd Starnes Radio Show. “The hate has been overwhelming.”

“They actually attacked our children – saying they were going to burn our store down. They wanted us to be raped. They wanted our children to be raped. They wanted us to have bullets in our head,” she said.

The trouble started in 2014 when a same-sex couple inquired about wedding attire..

Concealed Carry on Campus Is More Common, and Useful, Than You Thought

Recent tragedies have put a spotlight on the issue of firearms in schools, particularly whether there should be more or fewer armed personnel protecting students in the classroom.

What many do not realize is that students and teachers at some colleges and universities have for years been able to arm themselves on school property.

Which States Allow Guns On Campus, Under What Circumstances

Several states have statutes that explicitly protect the right of licensed individuals to carry concealed firearms at public colleges and universities:

Utah—In 2007, Utah became the first state to explicitly allow concealed weapons permit holders to carry firearms on public college campuses.

Colorado—The Concealed Carry Act of 2003 clarified the state’s concealed carry permit process and established statewide uniform standards establishing carrying restrictions. Then, in 2012, the Colorado Supreme Court determined the University of Colorado system could not prohibit concealed carry permit holders from carrying on campus.

Mississippi—In 2011, the state passed a law prohibiting public universities from enforcing firearms bans on persons with “training-endorsed” firearms permits.

Kansas—In 2013, the state passed a law that allowed for the carrying of concealed handguns on the state’s public university campuses and in university buildings, beginning July 1, 2017.

Racial Disparities Don’t Simply Boil Down to Discrimination

I don’t mind saying that this column represents a grossly understated review of “Discrimination and Disparities,” just published by my longtime friend and colleague Thomas Sowell. In less than 200 pages, Sowell lays waste to myth after myth not only in the United States but around the globe.

One of those myths is that but for the fact of discrimination, we’d all be proportionately represented in socio-economic characteristics, such as career, income, education, and incarceration. The fact of business is that there is no evidence anywhere on earth, at any time in human history, that demonstrates that but for discrimination, there would be proportionate representation in anything by race, sex, nationality, or any other human characteristic.

Sowell shows that socio-economic outcomes differ vastly among individuals, groups, and nations in ways that cannot be explained by any one factor, whether it’s genetics, discrimination, or some kind of exploitation.

Embattled Scott Pruitt rips ‘toxic’ Washington, says critics ‘will resort to anything’ to stop Trump agenda

EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt on Tuesday forcefully pushed back against criticism that he won a short-term sweetheart rental deal from a lobbyist friend, claiming it’s just the latest attempt by his and the president’s attackers to “resort to anything” to stop their agenda.

“There are people that have long in this town done business a different way and this agency has been the poster child of it. And so do I think that because we are leading on this agenda that there are some who want to keep that from happening? Absolutely. And do I think that they will resort to anything to achieve that? Yes,” he said in an interview with Secrets.

“It’s toxic here in that regard,” said Pruitt, one of a handful of President’s Trump’s agency heads who is scoring wins on his pro-jobs, anti-regulatory campaign.

Andrew McCabe’s Wife Falsely Claims He ‘Kept Himself Separate’ From Her State Senate Campaign

Jill McCabe, the wife of former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe, falsely claimed in a Monday op-ed that her husband "kept himself separate" from her state senate campaign.

McCabe, who ran in 2015 as a Democrat for a Virginia State Senate seat, said the last year and a half have been a "nightmare" for her and her family because of "twisted reporting and presidential tweets." She wrote in her Washington Post op-ed that she is now, however, free to speak out because her husband is no longer at the FBI.

The "accidental politician" highlighted how she and her husband met, her career in the medical field, and various aspects of her state senate campaign in 2015, including her support from former Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D.) and her husband's role in the campaign.

"He consulted with the ethics experts at the FBI and committed to follow their advice," McCabe said of her husband. "We tried to go even beyond what the rules required — Andrew kept himself separate from my campaign," she claimed.

Studies: Legal Marijuana Reduces Opioid Prescription Rates

New studies show impact of medical and recreational marijuana on opioid prescription

Two new studies, released Monday in the American Medical Association's journal of internal medicine, provide new evidence suggesting legalization of medical and recreational marijuana reduced opioid prescription rates, an important development as America continues to face a crisis of opioid overdose deaths.

The two studies use data from the Medicaid and Medicare Part D programs to analyze the impact that marijuana legalization has had on opioid prescription. Currently, 30 states and the District of Columbia have laws that permit the prescribing of marijuana for medical purposes in some form or another. A further eight states permit recreational use of marijuana, with Californiabeginning weed sales in January of this year.

Medicaid, which covers low-income and disabled Americans, saw a significant drop in opioid prescriptions in those states that had implemented medical and recreational marijuana laws. Examining the period between 2011 and 2016, during which time Medicaid was expanded under Obamacare, authors Jason Hockenberry and Hefei Wen found that medical marijuana laws were associated with an average reduction in the opioid prescription rate of 5.88 percent. States with recreational marijuana laws saw an average reduction of 6.38 percent.

Planned Parenthood Wisconsin Fined for Failing to Report Clinton, Feingold Support

48-hour reports not filed for $116,898 in independent expenditures during 2016 elections

Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin has been fined by the Federal Election Commission (FEC) for failing to report in a timely and accurate fashion $116,898 in independent expenditures spent in support of Democratic candidates Hillary Clinton and Russ Feingold during the 2016 elections, according to a settlement released by the commission.

Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin's failures to disclose its expenditures were discovered after discrepancies were found in the group's October 2016 quarterly report. The group had marked $133,305.04 worth of independent expenditures on that report, which covered its finances from July 1 to September 30, 2016. However, $116,898.08 of the $133,305.04 worth of expenditures the group showed in the filing was never submitted in any previous 48-hour reports, a requirement for money put towards independent expenditures.

The independent expenditures consisted of $58,449.04 Planned Parenthood Wisconsin in support of Hillary Clinton and an additional $58,449.04 disbursed on the same day in support of former Sen. Feingold (D.), who failed to recapture the Senate seat from Sen. Ron Johnson (R.).

Momentum Builds for Second Special Council to Reopen Clinton Probe, Investigate DOJ

Congressmen point to widespread misconduct in Trump-Russia probe in letter to Sessions

Momentum is building on Capitol Hill for the Trump administration to reopen an investigation into former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and her connections to an anti-Trump dossier that served as the basis for an ongoing investigation into President Trump and collusion with Russia during the 2018 election, according to lawmakers who spoke to the Washington Free Beacon.

As the Department of Justice investigation into claims Trump colluded with Russia drags on, a delegation of Republican members of Congress led by Rep. Lee Zeldin (N.Y.) is pressuring the DOJ to appoint a second special counsel to investigate why the FBI dropped its investigation into Clinton's use of a private email server while serving as secretary of state, as well as further information that her supporters in the FBI may have targeted Trump in an effort to undermine his candidacy.

The lawmakers maintain that new evidence discrediting the anti-Trump dossier—which was assembled by the opposition research firm Fusion GPS on the Clinton campaign's behalf—warrants the appointment of a new special counsel that would be tasked with investigating FBI bias and unwarranted spying on Trump associates.

Hillary Clinton claims 'Fox News is always trying to impeach me'

Democratic 2016 presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton claimed Tuesday that Fox News is “trying to impeach me,” the latest gripe the former secretary of state has expressed about Fox’s coverage.

Clinton, who holds no political office, made the remarks in a speech to The Wing -- a women-only co-working space in New York City -- where, despite saying she was optimistic and had faith in diversity and young people, she painted a grim picture of the future of the U.S.

“I don’t think we’ve seen the bottom yet, I think it's very unfortunate to contemplate but more can happen that would put our rights at risk, our freedom at risk, our values, our fundamental views about what it means to be Americans,” she said. She also described America as being in "a very bad spot."

Nolte: Deplorables and the Faithful Owned Pop Culture Last Week

For just one week, the leftist blacklisters who run popular culture allowed Trump supporters and the Faithful a shot at playing in the game, and look at what happened — we took the place over and the results were Roseanne’s viewership record, ratings wins, and big profits at the box office.

Who could have ever predicted such a thing? After all, there are only about 150 million of us.

The utterly shocking news (to our provincial elite) that a woefully under-served audience of millions will still drop a few bucks for a piece of popular culture aimed at them began a little over two weeks ago with the release of the independent feature I Can Only Imagine.

This $7 million biopic about the story behind a popular Christian song opened to $17.1 million after the so-called “experts” predicted it would be lucky to hit $4 million. After three weekends in release, I Can Only Imagine is still the fourth most popular movie in the country with a total haul of $55 million — which already makes it a bigger hit than Pacific Rim Uprising ($46 million), Tomb Raider ($51 million), Love, Simon ($32 million), Sherlock Gnomes ($23 million), and Jennifer Lawrence’s Red Sparrow ($45 million).

I should add that none of those commercial titles is close to making a profit, while I Can Only Imagine was in profit after just a few days.

Suspect Arrested For Rape And Production Of Child Pornography

(BALTIMORE, MD) — A Maryland State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force investigation resulted in the arrest last night of a suspect who is charged with multiple crimes ranging from the repeated rapes of a victim that began when she was a juvenile to the production and possession of child pornography.

The accused is identified as Glenn D. Ranger, 55, of Severn, Md., who within the past month began living at a residence in Dundalk, Md. He is charged with three counts each of second degree rape, second degree sex offense, third degree sex offense, and fourth degree sex offense. He is also charged with one count each of sexual abuse of a minor, sexual abuse of a minor with a continuing course of conduct, production of child pornography and possession of child pornography. Additional charges are pending.

Ranger was arrested last night near the residence where he has been staying in Dundalk. He was processed at the Glen Burnie Barrack and taken before a court commissioner for a bond hearing. He was held without bond at the Anne Arundel County Detention Center.

This investigation began in late March 2018, when a Maryland state trooper assigned to the Criminal Enforcement Division and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force was contacted by an officer from the Easton Police Department. A citizen who had purchased a storage locker during an auction in Anne Arundel County had discovered what he believed to be child pornography in the contents of the locker.

The State Police investigator obtained a search warrant for the contents of the locker. Recovered were thousands of photographs of child pornography and numerous electronic devices that included hard drives, DVDs and VHS tapes.

Photos of a nude female were also recovered. This same female was seen on VHS tapes being sexually assaulted by a man, later identified as the accused. Investigators believe these assaults began when the victim was about 16 and continued for six to eight years. The tapes also show a male victim, about six to eight years old, being sexually assaulted by the accused. Investigators believe the accused filmed these assaults with a camera hidden in the bedroom of an Anne Arundel County home where he previously lived.

State Police investigators identified the person who had rented the storage locker as the accused. Further investigation led to the location where he was currently residing in Baltimore County.

Investigators have identified and contacted the female victim, who is now an adult. They are working to identify and contact other victims. Anyone who has information about Ranger or who may have been a victim, is urged to contact Maryland State Police at 410-819-4780.

Assistance in this investigation was provided by members of the Easton Police Department, Maryland State Police, Anne Arundel County Police, Baltimore County Police, Homeland Security Investigations and the Maryland Department of Parole and Probation.

The investigation is continuing.

Arkansas judge rules six farmers can spray controversial chemical

CHICAGO (Reuters) - An Arkansas judge has ruled that six farmers in the state this summer can spray a weed killer made by Monsanto Co and BASF SE that was blamed for hurting millions of acres of U.S. crops last year.

The decision is the latest twist in the saga surrounding herbicides based on the chemical known as dicamba and immediately sparked concerns about the potential for more damage. Other states are also limiting sprayings of the herbicide, and farmers are suing its manufacturers over crop damage linked to its use last summer.

Dicamba is meant to be used during the summer on soybeans and cotton that Monsanto genetically engineered to resist the chemical. Growers across the U.S. farm belt said last summer that dicamba drifted away from where it was sprayed, damaging crops that could not tolerate the chemical.

Poll: Border Patrol Agents Want Wall

U.S. Border Patrol agents overwhelmingly support a "wall system" along the border with Mexico, according to a new survey from the National Border Patrol Council.

According to the poll, which was shared with The Washington Times, the vast majority of agents support a "wall system in strategic locations."

89 percent think a wall system is necessary;
7 percent disagree.
95 percent blame the government's failure to hold illegal immigrants awaiting deportation for illegal border crossings.

This poll contradicts the results of a report from Democrats on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, which stated that agents would prefer additional personnel and technology instead of additional fencing on the border.

Official: Venezuelan Shelves Would Not Be Empty if People Would Stop Eating the Food

No need to be terrified into turning away from Democrats’ agenda by its application in other countries; officials assure us that Venezuelan shelves are empty not because socialism has been imposed but due to the traditional capitalist sin of gluttony:

Venezuela’s former Vice President turned Minister of Education Elías Jauaclaimed in remarks this weekend that the country’s depleted supermarkets would be full of food if people did not eat so much.

Jaua praised the socialist Bolivarian Revolution for bestowing upon the People the “right to eat meat, chicken, milk, that they did not have ten, 14 years ago.” Back then it was the other way around; they had the food, but allegedly no right to eat it. Now they have the right, but no food.

Bellows Jaua:

“If the Venezuelan people did not eat, surely the shelves would be full.”

Not even Bernie Sanders could top this logic.

Fortunately, the government’s subjects are learning not to eat so much, thanks to theMaduro Diet, which resulted in the average Venezuelan losing 24 pounds last year. If they get peckish, they can always snack on some zoo animals.

On a tip from Dragon’s Lair.

South Texas Border Patrol Agents Overwhelmed by Illegal Border Crossers

Cabrera spoke to Breitbart Texas in his capacity as vice president of the National Border Patrol Council Local 3307. “Walls will take time to build but there are things we need to do now, in the interim, to improve border security in this sector.”

“We are seeing huge numbers this year,” Agent Cabrera stated. “The numbers in February were much higher than the same month in the previous two years.”

A Viewer Writes: Recent SCAM Alert

There is a recent scam going around to which my wife was a victim. She “asked” SIRI from her iPhone about iPhone apps and was directed to a phone number. The person there told her to go to go to Lowes to purchase $300 worth of iTunes gift cards and requested that she call back to identify the gift card numbers. She did and later realized the scam. Lowes won’t protect her and Apple won’t protect her. She’s been had quite simply. The phone number she called was disconnected that night.

Lowes already transferred the payment of the iTunes Gift Cards to the scammer. iTunes denies ANY responsibility. I would recommend that nobody purchase an iTunes gift card for anything. Hit is a widely reported scam.

We are out $300. Hope it doesn’t happen to you.

Deerfield previously allowed ownership of such firearms and magazines but had strict storage requirements in place for them. Now, the firearms and magazines will be illegal to posses in one’s home, even if properly stored.

The Chicago Tribune reports the “new ordinance prohibits the possession, sale and manufacturing of certain types of assault weapons and large capacity magazines within the village.” Those in violation of the ordinance will face fines of $250 to $1,000 a day.

Deerfield’s original “assault weapons” ban, including storage requirements. was instituted in 2013. The new ban is being put in place because of instances wherein “assault weapons” have been used criminally in Parkland, Florida, Sutherland Springs, Texas, Las Vegas, Nevada, and Orlando Florida. The ordinance warns that stock “assault weapons” are “customizable to become even more dangerous weapons of mass casualties and destruction.”

Two Dead In Wrong Way Crash On I-695 In Baltimore Co.

(LOCHERN, MD) — Maryland State Police are continuing their investigation into a wrong way crash on I-695 in Baltimore County early this morning that killed both drivers.

The first victim is identified as Jorene Long, 88, of York, PA. She was the driver and sole occupant of a 2003 Subaru Forester. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The name of the second driver is not being released at this time because family notification has not occurred. Troopers are continuing their attempts to locate and notify family at this time. The victim was driving a 2017 Ford Focus.

According to the preliminary investigation, Maryland State Police at the Golden Ring Barrack received a call just before 2:00 a.m. today reporting a vehicle traveling the wrong way on I-695 at I-795. Moments later, another call was received reporting a crash on the inner loop of I-695 at Liberty Road.

Troopers responded and found two vehicles were involved in the crash. The preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle driven by Long was traveling the wrong way on the inner loop and struck the oncoming vehicle head-on. It is unknown at this time where Long entered the inner loop of I-695 headed in the wrong direction.

Troopers learned from Long’s family that she left her residence yesterday afternoon on an errand. When she did not return home last night, her family reported her missing to police in Pennsylvania.

The Maryland State Police Crash Team is conducting a detailed crash reconstruction. The investigation is continuing.

Beyond Military Deployment, ‘Catch and Release’ Could Be Unilaterally Ended

President Trump’s administration announced on Wednesday that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Defense Department will coordinate on a plan to send National Guard troops to the U.S.-Mexico border.

The move will not give the National Guard the authority to act as temporary Border Patrol agents, catching and detaining illegal aliens, but rather it allows troops to take on logistical jobs so that Border Patrol is given more manpower to focus on arresting illegal aliens.

The military operation at the border may shape up to be similar to that of President George W. Bush’s “Operation Jump Start,” where 6,000 National Guard troops were deployed to the southern border.

Experts tell Breitbart News that the military at the border to assist Border Patrol is only the beginning of a larger operation that can be done by the Trump administration to help reduce the flood of illegal aliens continuing to pour into the U.S.

Former immigration judge Andrew Arthur tells Breitbart News that to unilaterally, temporarily end Catch and Release, the Trump administration could set up tent cities along the southern border, similar to what President Clinton did in the 1990s.

Anti-Semite Claims Dems Speaking At Rally

Unnamed members of the Congressional Black Caucus are speaking at an anti-Semitic black nationalist leader’s rally on April 7, the leader said.

Black Lawyers for Justice President Malik Zulu Shabazz, a former New Black Panthers Party leader, is organizing the 10,000 Black Men’s March and Rally against President Donald Trump and police violence in Washington, D.C., on Saturday. The march and rally are parts of the five-day National Black Men’s Convention Shabazz organized.

Expected speakers at Saturday’s rally include “members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), Reverend Al Sharpton, Reverend Jesse Jackson and likely quarterback and national activist Colin Kaepernick,” Shabazz said in a statement released to The Daily Caller News Foundation.

Shabazz is a supporter of Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan and, like Farrakhan, is known as an extremist.

CRISIS CANCELED: ‘Caravan’ CALLED OFF After Trump’s TOUGH TALK

A ‘caravan’ of Central American asylum-seekers abandoned their plans to march to the southern border of the United States Wednesday, saying they will “wrap up” their journey in Mexico City after President Trump’s threat to deploy the US military to the region.

“A caravan of Central American migrants whose trek across Mexico infuriated President Donald Trump has decided not to travel to the US border, leaders said Tuesday,” writes the AFP.

“We will wrap up our work in Mexico City,” said the leader of People Without Borders. “We have support teams at the border if there are people who need assistance there, but they would have to travel on their own.”

The President issued a stark warning to Mexican authorities this week after the 1,500 strong ‘caravan’ made its way through Mexico towards the US border; saying he was prepared to deploy the US military to help avert a potential humanitarian crisis.

Texas Woman Gets 5 Years in Prison for Illegally Voting

A district judge sentenced a Tarrant County woman to five years in prison Wednesday for illegally voting in the 2016 presidential election.

Crystal Mason, 43, was on supervised release for a 2011 conviction for tax fraud when she voted. In Texas, convicted felons can't vote until they complete their full sentence, including supervised release.

After her conviction, Mason chose to forgo a jury trial and have her sentence assessed instead. State District Judge Ruben Gonzalez oversaw sentencing.

In cases such as Mason's, the state must prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant was aware that she was not allowed to vote, Tarrant County prosecutor Matt Smid said.

The investigation began after a worker at the polls reported problems with Mason's ballot, said Samantha Jordan, a spokeswoman for the Tarrant County district attorney's office.

In City Schools, 44 Employees Earn More than Governor

BALTIMORE (WBFF) - Can you put a price on a good teacher, principal or school superintendent? Baltimore City Schools has, to the tune of six-figure salaries.

Baltimore City Schools CEO Sonja Santelises oversees 82,000 students and a $1.3 billion budget. It may not surprise you, that at $317,000, she was the District’s highest paid employee last year. But what Project Baltimore found in a 2017 City Schools employee salary database may surprise you.

“I would encourage you to ask parents what they think the worth is of a great teacher or a school leader,” says Jeremy Grant-Skinner, Chief Human Capital Officer for Baltimore City Schools.

The database, obtained through a public records request, includes all 9,400 full-time school employees. When we sorted through the data, a few things jumped out at us. In a city where the average household earns $44,000 a year, we found 767 employees who made at least $100,000 last year.

Climate of Hate: Jimmy Kimmel Mocks Melania Trump’s Accent

Jimmy Kimmel let his hatred of the Trump family pour forth Monday night by mocking First Lady Melania Trump’s accent.

Although she is now an American citizen, the first lady was born in Slovenia and did not move to the United States until she was in her mid-20s. It only makes sense that she would retain her accent, but Kimmel still finds it worth mocking.

During his monologue, the far-left Kimmel went after the president and first lady over the annual White House Easter egg roll.

After playing video of the president praising his wife’s work in planning the day, Kimmel said, “Not a chance she did one thing the help set that up. The only thing she’s been working on is an escape tunnel.”

“No White House Easter celebration would be complete without story time with our first lady,” Kimmel said before playing a clip of our first lady reading a children’s book to the assembled youngsters.

“Be clever and curious, just like a cat,” Melania reads, “Ask lots of questions. about this and that.”

Kimmel returns laughing along with his audience at the first lady’s accent and then he does his own impression, “Yeah, about dees and dat.”

Obviously, mocking anyone else’s foreign accent would result in Kimmel being fired. But Republicans and Christians, most especially women (who the left see as apostates that must be destroyed), remain the only group left in America that can be openly mocked and humiliated.

Governor Larry Hogan Vetoes Bills Eroding School Accountability

Bills Remove Critical Oversight of Billions in School Construction Funding, Protect Bad Teachers Charged with Misconduct from Termination

ANNAPOLIS, MD –
Governor Larry Hogan today vetoed two bills that undermine critical oversight and accountability of Maryland public schools. The legislation, passed by the Maryland General Assembly and presented early to the governor, includes House Bill 1783, which would strip oversight over school construction funding from the state’s top fiscal leaders, and Senate Bill 639, which would add an unnecessary layer of bureaucracy to the process of removing teachers charged with misconduct.

HB 1783 removes the historic oversight from the Board of Public Works, comprised of the governor, the comptroller, and the treasurer, over billions of dollars in school construction funds and gives it to the Interagency Commission on School Construction (IAC). The IAC is an unelected, unaccountable body consisting of political appointees, which have historically included lobbyists and individuals with potential conflicts of interest.

“At a time when Marylanders are crying out for more accountability, more oversight, and more transparency in education spending, the legislature ignored those pleas. I can only assume that some legislators had no idea what they were voting on when their party leaders forced them to cast this horrible vote. But let me be very clear: anyone who votes to override this veto will be voting against transparency, against accountability in education, against fiscal responsibility, and against the wishes of an overwhelming majority of Marylanders,” said Governor Hogan as he vetoed the bill during a meeting of the Board of Public Works Wednesday morning.

In a process that reeked of the smoke-filled backrooms and political machines of the past, this disastrous IAC provision was amended onto an initially promising piece of legislation and then hustled through the legislature in a secretive process with no public hearings, no notice, and limited debate. As the Presiding Officers rammed the bill through with little regard to transparency, the Senate President and other legislative leaders stated on the record that the effort was actually about settling petty personal scores within their own party – not serving Maryland students, parents, and taxpayers.

“I will never sit by and allow our children to be used as political pawns in what is a perplexing and ultimately deeply depressing situation that you have chosen to create,” wrote Governor Hogan in his veto letter to legislative leadership.

The governor also vetoed SB 639, which makes it more difficult for Maryland schools to remove teachers who have been recommended for termination by school superintendents for misconduct by creating an unnecessary and bureaucratic arbitration process before any action can be taken. The bill gives power over these important decisions to an arbitrator – who does not have to be a Maryland resident – instead of local school boards, which have to answer to parents.

“The vast majority of our teachers do an incredible job, often making tough personal sacrifices, educating our students,” wrote Governor Hogan in his veto letter to legislative leadership. “However, those who consistently fail our children and consistently fail to achieve our state’s high standards should not be protected through an extra layer of obscure bureaucracy.”

This bill is the latest in a series of unfortunate actions by the General Assembly to pass flawed bills that negatively impact Maryland’s public schools. In addition to the bills the governor vetoed today, the legislature passed the disastrous “Protect our [Failing] Schools Act” during the last session, which resulted in Maryland having the second-lowest accountability standards in the nation under the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). This session, legislators have failed to move forward on legislation proposed by the governor to improve Maryland’s standing under ESSA, and to create an Investigator General to investigate wrongdoing in school systems across the state.

The legislature’s actions to undermine school accountability come amid multiple scandals and allegations of improper conduct in multiple jurisdictions, including unethical behavior resulting in a the former Baltimore County school superintendent pleading guilty to perjury, troubling results of a state investigation into grade changes in Prince George’s County, widespread mold issues in Howard County school facilities, fiscal mismanagement in Baltimore City, and sexual misconduct by multiple school employees in Montgomery County.

The vetoed bills will be returned to the Maryland General Assembly, where they will either be sustained or overridden.

RG3 signs with Ravens

WASHINGTON — The Baltimore Ravens have signed former Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III to a one-year deal. Griffin is expected to be a backup to Joe Flacco, Baltimore’s starting quarterback for 10 straight seasons.

Griffin was a Heisman Trophy winner and first round draft pick in 2012. The Redskins made an extensive trade with the Rams to acquire the rookie QB. While Griffin did lead the Redskins to the playoffs in his first year and snagged offensive rookie of the year, his health was a constant concern for the team.

Congressman Harris Co-Leads Bipartisan Letter in Support of Seasonal Workers

WASHINGTON, DC: Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01), alongside Congressmen Jack Bergman (MI-01), Steve Chabot (OH-01), and William Keating (MA-09), led a bipartisan letter, signed by 89 members of the U.S. House of Representatives, supporting the release of additional H-2B visas in order to meet the needs of small seasonal businesses in Maryland’s First Congressional District and across the country. The Fiscal Year 2018 cap of 66,000 H-2B visas was filled on January 1, 2018, leaving many businesses unable to obtain the temporary seasonal labor they need. The letter, sent to Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen and Secretary of Labor Alexander Acosta, urges the Secretaries to make additional H-2B visas available and to ensure efficient processing of H-2B visa applications. Congressman Andy Harris released the following statement in support of this letter:

“The H-2B visa program is a crucial resource for many seasonal businesses across Maryland’s First Congressional District and supports thousands of related jobs held by American citizens. I support the H-2B program because it requires employers to prove they were not able to hire American workers, and only allows foreign workers to temporarily live in the United States while they are working. These temporary workers must pay American taxes, have a clean criminal record, receive no government benefits, and return to their home countries when their visas expire.

Several industries in the First Congressional District depend on H-2B workers, and failure to provide additional visas for these businesses that simply cannot find American workers could seriously harm the District’s economy. I appreciate Secretary Nielsen’s and Secretary Acosta’s attention to this urgent matter.”
