Tuesday at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Department of Homeland Security oversight, referring to President Donald Trump’s alleged “shithole” comments, Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) lectured Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen over her testimony.
Booker said, “Now, I’ve been in the Oval Office many times and when the commander in chief speaks, I listened. I don’t have amnesia on conversations I had in the Oval Office going back months and months. I had individual meetings with the president and I’ve had group conversations where there was, as you said, cross-talk. And why—why is this so important? Why is this so disturbing for me? Why am I frankly, seething with anger? We have this incredible nation where we have been taught that it does not matter where you’re from, it doesn’t matter your color, your race, your religion, it’s about the content of your character. It’s about your values and your ideals, and yet we have language that from Dick Durbin to Lindsey Graham, they seem to have a much better recollection of what went on. You’re under oath. You and others in that room that suddenly cannot remember. It was Martin Luther King that said there’s ‘nothing in this world more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.’ And so here we are in the United States of America, and we have a history that is beautiful and grand and also ugly—where from this nation to others we know what happens when people sit by and are bystanders and say nothing. When Oval Office rhetoric sounds like social engineering, we know from human history the dangers of that.”

Al Sharpton is what’s wrong with the Democrat Party, He’s an insult to the memory of Martin Luther King Jr.
Today in New York there’s going to be a celebration remembering the good work done by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. That’s a good thing.
Unfortunately, those activities are going to be held at the National Action Network, a fraud organization that’s a money making machine run by the biggest fraudster and race hustler in the country, the Rev. Al Sharpton. The governor and mayor of New York will be In attendance, not because of the good works Sharpton has done, it’s because he’s part of the Democrat Party apparatus that allows him to get away with anything, like not paying his taxes.
I think it’s reprehensible for so many reasons that Sharpton is lifted up as a equal to Martin Luther King Jr. It’s an abomination and an insult to my intelligence. The Black community deserves better.

Ohio State course reprimands white heterosexual masculinity
Masculinity simultaneously harms yet privileges men, syllabus states
A class taught this spring at Ohio State University will review a parade of reasons why white heterosexual masculinity is allegedly problematic, tackling the topic from the constructs of racial issues, bullying, pop culture, societal expectations and much more, according to its syllabus.
The course, “Be a Man! Masculinities, Race and Nation,” includes a variety of readings to that end, including its required textbook “Dude, You’re a Fag!” by C.J. Pascoe, which analyzes masculinity as not only a gendered process, but sexual one, its Amazon description states.
Other assigned reading excerpts include: “Masculinity as Homophobia” by Michael Kimmel; “Advertising and the Construction of Violent White Masculinity” by Jackson Katz; “Dude Sex: Dudes Who Have Sex with Dudes” by Jane Ward; “Looking for My Penis” by Richard Fung; “Sodomy in the New World” by Jonathan Goldberg; and “Teaching Men’s Anal Pleasure” by Susan Stiritz.

Illegal Alien Workplace Raids Are “Causing A Lot Of Panic”
Causing panic is a major point of raiding workplaces that employ illegal aliens
(NY Times) The Trump administration is taking its campaign against illegal immigration to the workplace.
The raids by federal agents on dozens of 7-Eleven convenience stores last week were the administration’s first big show of force meant to convey the consequences of employing undocumented people.
“We are taking work-site enforcement very hard,” said Thomas D. Homan, the director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, in a speech in October. “Not only are we going to prosecute the employers who knowingly hire the illegal aliens, we are going to detain and remove the illegal alien workers.”
In reality, raiding workplaces is nothing new. It happened under Obama, Bush 43, Clinton, etc. The only difference here is that the Trump administration is making a slightly bigger deal in doing it.
When agents raid workplaces, they often demand to see employees’ immigration documents and make arrests. But after the agents leave, it is difficult for the government to meaningfully penalize businesses that hire unauthorized immigrants.
Instead, according to law enforcement officials and experts with differing views of the immigration debate, a primary goal of such raids is to dissuade those working illegally from showing up for their jobs — and to warn prospective migrants that even if they make it across the border, they may end up being captured at work.
And that right there is a big problem. Not the part about dissuading, but the part about not being able to penalize businesses. I have long stated that the law should be changed so that businesses can be slapped with civil and criminal penalties. Several sections of current law sort of applies, but not to a point of a serious deterrent.

Media Again Betray Public Trust with Wild Conspiracy Theories About Trump’s Mental Health
Trump’s perfect score on a mental acuity test once again exposes the media as wild conspiracy theorists and flat-out liars...
New York Times: ‘Is Mr. Trump Nuts?’
USA Today: “Battles over Trump’s mental health and ‘fitness’ for office sidetrack his policy agenda”
Washington Post: “Wolff’s book has thrust the topic [of Trump’s mental stability] to the forefront of public debate[.]”
CNN’s Jake Tapper: “[T]he president’s mental fitness has come under discussion quite a bit the last two weeks. Do you think a president’s mental health should be tested?”
NBC’s Chuck Todd: “[A] president … with a staff that questioned his ‘fitness for office’ and his mental stability.”
MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough: “I’ve written twice in my column a quote about one of the people closest to Donald Trump during the campaign saying he’s got early stage of dementia.”
Obviously, this is just the tip of the 24/7 cable news/Sunday show/.com iceberg. The left-wing CNN has been trolling Trump over this issue for months, and turned it up to 11 this last week.
But what was the rationale for all this irresponsible, norm-defying, anti-science speculation?

Turning Soybeans Into Diesel Fuel Is Costing Us Billions
This year, trucks and other heavy-duty motors in America will burn some 3 billion gallons of diesel fuel that was made from soybean oil. They're doing it, though, not because it's cheaper or better, but because they're required to, by law.
The law is the Renewable Fuel Standard, or RFS. For some, especially Midwestern farmers, it's the key to creating clean energy from American soil and sun. For others — like many economists — it's a wasteful misuse of resources.
And the most wasteful part of the RFS, according to some, is biodiesel. It's different from ethanol, a fuel that's made from corn and mixed into gasoline, also as required by the RFS. In fact, gasoline companies probably would use ethanol even if there were no law requiring it, because ethanol is a useful fuel additive. That's not true of biodiesel.
"This is an easy one, economically. Biodiesel is very expensive, relative to petroleum diesel," says Scott Irwin, an economist at the University of Illinois, who follows biofuel markets closely. He calculates that the extra cost for biodiesel comes to about $1.80 per gallon right now, meaning that the biofuel law is costing Americans about $5.4 billion a year.

Cory Booker’s ‘tears of rage’ rant mocked
Sen. Cory Booker found himself compared to actor Tommy Wiseau of “The Room” on Tuesday after raising his voice during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing.
An angry exchange with Homeland Security Secretary Kristjen Nielsen became one of the top tending stories on Twitter this week when Mr. Booker recounted “tears of rage” over comments attributed to Mr. Trump.
The New Jersey Democrat scolded Ms. Nielsen for “amnesia” when she testified under oath that she never heard the president refer to “sh—hole” countries during policy negotiations.
Critics attributed the impassioned lecture as a de facto audition for a 2020 presidential campaign.
“Dem 2020 field in this hearing are being really theatrical,” tweeted Noah Rothman of Commentary Magazine.
“This guy is the most embarrassing grandstander in the Senate, Ted Cruz included,” added Allah Pundit of the conservative website Hot Air. “He’s way too transparent. He needs acting lessons badly.”

Dow Breaks above 26,000 for 1st Time
U.S. stocks closed lower on Tuesday, pulling back from record highs set earlier in the session, as investors weighed the possibility of a government shutdown.
The Dow Jones industrial average ended 10.33 points lower at 25,792.86. At its session highs, the index traded above 26,000 and 283 points higher. The Dow also posted its biggest one-day reversal since Feb. 10, 2016.
The S&P 500 closed 0.4 percent lower at 2,776.42. The index had traded above 2,800 for the first time earlier in the session. The Nasdaq composite also erased gains, finishing 0.5 percent lower at 7,223.69.
Congress needs to pass a spending bill by the end of Friday to avoid a government shutdown. A point of contention between Republicans and Democrats is an immigration bill which Democrats want to pass. Those talks have complicated efforts to keep the government open.
"Key Democratic constituencies are demanding that Congressional Democrats insist on making DACA part of the 'must pass' budget legislation to keep the government open," said L. Thomas Block, Washington policy strategist at Fundstrat Global Advisors.

Gowdy: Schiff Believed in Collusion Before Probe Started
Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., said that Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., believed that Donald Trump's campaign colluded with Russia in the 2016 presidential election before an investigative committee's work had begun.
"Some of my colleagues have already made up their minds, namely Adam Schiff. He found collusion before we even started. I'm not sure how you do that, but he did it," said Gowdy, the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, about Schiff, the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee.

U.S. Policies Continue To Fail In 2018
As of this writing, the Russian military has had three of their bases attacked by drones. They destroyed six of them and captured another seven. The significance: the drones are of a quality that could not have been made by the ISIS “rebels,” and had to come from a technologically-advanced nation. The drones were multidirectional and able to be controlled by satellite through GPS coordinates.
[Schwarzenegger, in “Predator”]: “Heat seeker, Dillon. Pretty sophisticated for a bunch of half-assed mountain boys.”
Exactly. The U.S. (via Tillerson) released a statement that the U.S. was not involved in the drone strike and was unaware of who supplied the drones.
Not only does that not hold any water, but as it turns out, a U.S. intelligence aircraft was monitored in the theatre while these drone attacks were taking place.
Syria is still being hotly contested between Assad and the “rebels” who are none other than Al Qaeda that “morphed” several times to become the ISIS we all know and uphold in the manner of Emmanuel Goldstein, the bogeyman of Orwell’s “1984.”

Diversity Visa Lottery Winner Offered to Kill Obama for ISIS
Abdurasul Hasanovich Juraboev was both lucky and evil.
His luck was demonstrated when he won admission to the United States through the diversity visa lottery; his evilness, by his stated willingness to assassinate the president of the United States or commit a terrorist attack in New York City — if he could not travel to Syria to join the Islamic State, and if that is what the Islamic State ordered him to do.
When Juraboev was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Oct. 27, 2017, New York City Police Commissioner James O'Neill summarized his case in a statement released by the U.S. Justice Department.
“The defendant in this case lived in Brooklyn while making plans to travel to Syria to support a design(at)ed terrorist organization," O'Neill said. "If that was not successful, the defendant schemed of bombing Coney Island or killing the president of the United States."
This story starts in 2011.
"Juraboev, a national of Uzbekistan, was admitted to the United States as a diversity visa lottery recipient in 2011," said a report issued jointly this week by the Department of Justice and Department of Homeland Security.

Term limits worth discussion, unlikely to happen
When we asked Del. Haven Shoemaker about term limits for state lawmakers and told us on the first day of the 2018 legislative session that “we have some folks down here who have been in office since I was in elementary school,” the soon-to-be-53-year-old wasn’t spouting hyperbole.
Senate President Thomas V. “Mike” Miller, 75, is the longest presiding officer of a legislature in the United States with 32 years in his current post, and 44 total years in the Senate. Prior to that, he served a four-year term in the House of Delegates that began in 1971. Shoemaker turned 6-years-old that January.
On the eve of this year’s legislative session, Gov. Larry Hogan proposed lawmakers take up legislation that would limit future elected officials to two consecutive terms in office. It wouldn’t apply to current lawmakers.
Generally, we’re supportive of term limits. After a while, politicians either get too powerful or they begin to stagnant. How does the old joke go? Politicians are like diapers, they should be changed regularly and for the same reasons.

State Department Touts SPLC, Open Society Foundation in Grant
The State Department touted the work of the Southern Poverty Law Center and George Soros's Open Society Foundation in announcing a new grant extended to British organizations to create a program teaching high school students about the United States' tactics in countering hate crimes.
The Embassy of the United States in London included the progressive groups among "organizations of interest" listed in the grant description of the "Youth Exchange on Social Cohesion" program, through which $50,000-75,000 will be awarded for the development of a program that brings UK high school students stateside to learn about American strategies in building communities that prevent violent extremism and radicalization.
The SPLC, a legal advocacy and civil rights watchdog, purports to combat racist organizations and individuals, but has been panned for classifying Muslim moderates as "anti-Muslim extremists." Maajid Nawaz, a prominent UK Muslim reformer who founded an anti-radicalization organization, is suing the SPLC for identifying him as an Islamophobe. The SPLC has also refused to designate "antifa" a hate group, while applying that epithet to politically conservative and religious groups.

Trump cites work of Democrat Barbara Jordan as inspiration for his immigration policies
President Trump invoked the legacy of the late civil rights leader Barbara Jordan Wednesday in his immigration debate with Congress, saying the former House Democrat “recognized that an immigration policy that puts Americans first is an important civil rights issue.”
“In the spirit of Jordan’s vision, my administration has taken an America First approach to immigration,” Mr. Trump said in a statement honoring Jordan, who died on this date in 1996. “As a result, illegal immigration is down and reports from around the country are showing companies increasing wages and hiring Americans pushed out of the labor market during past administrations.”
He said, “She remained steadfast in promoting common-sense reforms that would better protect the rights and needs of Americans.”
Mr. Trump, who is under fire by Democrats for his reported comments about restricting immigration from certain poor nations, said Jordan “challenged our nation’s leaders to maximize opportunities for all Americans by adopting an immigration policy that puts American citizens first.”
“Jordan called for an end to chain migration, which has allowed millions upon millions of low-skilled foreign nationals to compete for opportunities and resources against our most vulnerable American citizens — many of whom come from African-American and Hispanic-American communities,” the president said. “She also called for the mandatory use of an electronic employment verification system, now known as E-Verify, to finally turn off the jobs-magnet that lures so many illegal immigrants to our country.”

House investigators to question FBI chief of staff on Hillary Clinton email probe
The chief of staff and senior counselor to FBI Director Christopher Wray is expected to meet with the House Oversight Committee Thursday.
A spokesperson for House Oversight confirmed to the Washington Examiner that Jim Rybicki is expected to testify as part of the committee’s investigation into the Department of Justice’s probe in Hillary Clinton’s private email server, and the decision by then-FBI Director James Comey to announce there would be no criminal charges against the former secretary of state and 2016 Democratic presidential nominee.
Rybicki will also appear before the House Judiciary Committee, an aide told the Washington Examiner.
The joint investigation was announced by the House Oversight and Judiciary committees in December, when Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., and Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., outlined information they are seeking to determine what role Justice Department and FBI officials played in various probes, including the Clinton probe.

How China Infiltrated U.S. Classrooms
Last year, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte made an announcement to great fanfare: The university would soon open a branch of the Confucius Institute, the Chinese government-funded educational institutions that teach Chinese language, culture and history. The Confucius Institute would “help students be better equipped to succeed in an increasingly globalized world,” says Nancy Gutierrez, UNC Charlotte’s dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and “broaden the University’s outreach and support for language instruction and cultural opportunities in the Charlotte community,” according to a press release.
But the Confucius Institutes’ goals are a little less wholesome and edifying than they sound—and this is by the Chinese government’s own account. A 2011 speech by a standing member of the Politburo in Beijing laid out the case: “The Confucius Institute is an appealing brand for expanding our culture abroad,” Li Changchun said. “It has made an important contribution toward improving our soft power. The ‘Confucius’ brand has a natural attractiveness. Using the excuse of teaching Chinese language, everything looks reasonable and logical.”
Li, it now seems, was right to exult. More than a decade after they were created, Confucius Institutes have sprouted up at more than 500 college campuses worldwide, with more than 100 of them in the United States—including at The George Washington University, the University of Michigan and the University of Iowa. Overseen by a branch of the Chinese Ministry of Education known colloquially as Hanban, the institutes are part of a broader propaganda initiative that the Chinese government is pumping an estimated $10 billion into annually, and they have only been bolstered by growing interest in China among American college students.
Yet along with their growth have come consistent questions about whether the institutes belong on campuses that profess to promote free inquiry. Confucius Institutes teach a very particular, Beijing-approved version of Chinese culture and history: one that ignores concerns over human rights, for example, and teaches that Taiwan and Tibet indisputably belong to Mainland China. Take it from the aforementioned Li, who also said in 2009 that Confucius Institutes are an “important part of China’s overseas propaganda set-up.”

Model's second leg amputated due to toxic shock syndrome from tampon
Model Lauren Wasser’s life changed at the age of 24 when a life-threatening condition – caused by a tampon – took her right leg and the toes of her left foot.
Five years later, the fashion model is still suffering the same infection, known as Toxic Shock Syndrome, which is caused by toxins released by bacteria Staphylococcus aureus (staph) or Streptococcus pyogenes (strep). After enduring months of excruciating pain, the now 29-year-old had her second leg amputated on Thursday.
“Life is about to be so different, again,” Wasser posted on Instagram days before the surgery. “I’m in great spirits though and ready for my next chapter.”
Wasser’s partner, photographer Jennifer Rovero, kept fans updated throughout the process, posting updates before and after the procedure.

New hurdles to renew driver's license in Maryland
LARGO, MD (WUSA9) - At least 3.7 million drivers in Maryland will need to produce additional documents the next time they renew their driver's licenses or state IDs in order for the state to comply with the federal Real ID Act of 2005.
The first two weeks of the requirements that went into effect at the beginning of 2018 have gone smoothly, according to MVA officials.
Even so, it was not difficult to meet drivers who were caught by surprise when WUSA9 visited the MVA service center in Largo.
"I didn't get that information before I got here," said Lacelles Artllel as he waited in line for the second time to renew his license Wednesday.

Artllel needed to find his passport and other additional documents to prove his age and his address even though he has held a license in Maryland for 14 years.
"It cost me a couple of hours," Artllel said.

Pennsylvania Police Hunt Pair Who Scooted Away With Other Shopper's Cash, Credit Cards
Suspects Robert Doerwald, 54, and Dawn Hosie, 45, have turned themselves over to police. Criminal charges against the duo are expected to be filed later today. In Facebook posts, Hosie--who is engaged to Doerwald--told friends that she “messed up” and “made a bad choice.” The couple is pictured in the below photo from Doerwald’s Facebook page.
Pennsylvania cops are seeking the public’s help in identifying a pair of Walmart patrons suspected of stealing another shopper’s credit cards.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police, the duo swiped cash and credit cards from a female victim who reported losing her purse earlier this month at a Walmart in Honesdale, a rural borough about 30 miles northeast of Scranton.
Investigators report that the victim’s plastic was subsequently used that day for purchases at a McDonald’s restaurant, a Sunoco gas station, and a Walmart about 20 miles away from where the victim’s cash and credit cards were stolen.
A review of store surveillance video revealed that the suspects tooled around the second Walmart in motorized shopping carts (as seen above) and drove away from the store in a Subaru station wagon.

Georgia Sheriff's Warning to Keep People Off Snow Covered Roads is Hilarious
Bless their hearts. A county Sheriff’s department from the deep south has had its fill of folks out on the road getting their cars and trucks all-tore-up. They’ve taken to Facebook to put the word out that driving in the snow isn’t worth it. This recent onslaught of winter weather has the region shut down, or it should, except people don’t listen and insist on driving.
The messages are coming out of the Oconee County Sheriff’s Department, east of Atlanta. While the winter weather wouldn’t be considered extreme in many parts of the country, Georgians are not known for their winter driving skills. A light dusting of snow is enough to shut down schools. Ice can cripple the region. Even a mild threat of snow is enough to spark a run on the grocery stores, where gallons of milk and loaves of bread fly off the shelves.
So the Oconee County Sheriff’s Department took the proactive step of warning locals to stay home.

Booker Admits Hearing Freak Out Was a Political Stunt
Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) essentially admitted that the fit he threw in front of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen was a political stunt in an appearance on CNN on Wednesday.
After CNN’s Jake Tapper read a repudiation of Booker’s conduct to the senator from the Republican National Committee (RNC), the senator reacted with uncaged joy.
“I’m glad they’re finally attacking me,” he said, pointing out that Republicans had attacked other high-profile senators.

Transgender Mafia Puts Disabled Vet on Unemployment
Will Caligan, a Desert Shield and Desert Storm veteran suffering Gulf War Syndrome, is out of a job. What caused him to lose it is one more weight on the scale that is tipping America toward total insanity. Caligan is a talented comics artist who contracted with Short Fuse Media Group to produce comic books. If you have followed any of my investigations into #Comicsgate you would know that the comics industry has been completely taken over by rabid alt-left types who spent their days devising ways to destroy beloved characters by "diversifying" them into an approved SJW mold. Caligan, a conservative Christian, had little chance of survival in that environment. One hint of wrongthink could spell curtains for any artist, writer or producer in today's comics climate. In Caligan's case, he made the catastrophic mistake of voicing his opinion about a pop culture story about a straight man rebuffing a kiss from a transwoman.
A few weeks ago, rapper Ginuwine was caught in an uncomfortable situation where a transgendered male-to-female tried to kiss him. When he rebuffed the advances, the internet accused him of transphobia. The lesson here seems to be that if Harvey Weinstein tries to kiss a woman, that's assault. But if a transgendered person tries to force someone to kiss him, there is a requirement for the victim to prove a lack of transphobia by complying. Caligan posted his thoughts on this situation and then all hell broke loose.

'Deplorable Vet' Offers to Take Maxine Waters' SOTU Seat
An African-American veteran has offered to take Rep. Maxine Waters' (D-Calif.) seat at President Trump's first State of the Union address later this month.
Waters is one of several Democrat lawmakers who are skipping the event, telling MSNBC last week that Trump is "the most despicable human being that could possibly ever walk the earth."
"Why would I take my time to go and sit and listen to a liar? ... He doesn't deserve my attention," Waters said.
Ricky Taylor, a ten-year Army veteran who served two tours in Afghanistan, started going viral after he tweeted that he would like Waters' seat, so he can attend the State of the Union and thank the president.
He said he takes issue with how Waters tries to speak for all black people and minorities.
"There's so many Trump supporters out there that are minorities," Taylor said. "She doesn't speak for everybody, she surely doesn't speak for me."

Statement from Governor Larry Hogan on Amazon’s Selection of Maryland for HQ2 Shortlist
ANNAPOLIS, MD – Governor Larry Hogan today issued the following statement following Amazon’s announcement that Montgomery County has been selected as a potential site for its second headquarters:
“This is tremendous news for Montgomery County, our entire state, and further proof that Maryland is truly open for business. Maryland put forward an extremely strong group of sites that were all supported by the state with incentive packages totaling more than $5 billion, including road and transit improvements. Going forward, we will continue working with our partners in Montgomery County, including County Executive Ike Leggett and his team, to ensure that we do everything possible to bring this project home. This news is certainly welcome, but the real challenge lies ahead – and Maryland is ready to meet it.”

More Screen Time Worsens Sleep in Young Kids
Higher use of electronic media is tied to poorer sleep quality in children as young as three, a new study from Germany suggests.
The study investigated the association between media consumption - including electronic media such as television, DVDs and computer gaming as well as books - with overall sleep quality in 530 three-year-olds born in southern Germany in 2012 and 2013.
Based on parent responses to a questionnaire, higher electronic media consumption was strongly linked to poor overall sleep quality, including worsening bedtime resistance, sleep anxiety, and daytime sleepiness.
“Previous studies have shown that media use, particularly electronic media use in the evening, is associated with poor sleep in adolescents and adults. This study shows that such relationships can be observed much earlier in life - even in the first 3-4 years,” said Dr. Daniel Buysse, a sleep medicine researcher at the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania, who was not involved in the study.

U.S. Lawmakers Urge AT&T to Cut Commercial Ties with Huawei
U.S. lawmakers are urging AT&T Inc, the No. 2 wireless carrier, to cut commercial ties to Chinese phone maker Huawei Technologies Co Ltd and oppose plans by telecom operator China Mobile Ltd to enter the U.S. market because of national security concerns, two congressional aides said.
The warning comes after the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump took a harder line on policies initiated by his predecessor Barack Obama on issues ranging from Beijing’s role in restraining North Korea to Chinese efforts to acquire U.S. strategic industries.
Earlier this month, AT&T was forced to scrap a plan to offer its customers Huawei handsets after some members of Congress lobbied against the idea with federal regulators, sources told Reuters.
The U.S. government has also blocked a string of Chinese acquisitions over national security concerns, including Ant Financial’s proposed purchase of U.S. money transfer company MoneyGram International Inc.

Breaking News: President Trump upset the G.O.P. plan to avert a shutdown, saying he opposed extending a children's health program as part of a stopgap bill
President Trump blew up Republican strategies to keep the government open past Friday when on Thursday morning he said a long-term extension of the popular Children’s Health Insurance Program should not be part of a stopgap spending bill pending before the House.
With a possible government shutdown looming this weekend, the House had planned to vote late Thursday on a stopgap spending bill that would keep government funding flowing to Feb. 16 as delicate negotiations continue to protect young, undocumented immigrants brought illegally as children from deportation. The Republican pitch to Democrats was that a “no” vote would block a six-year extension of the children’s health program, attached to the spending bill as a sweetener for lawmakers in both parties.

Subject: Pentagon Confirms Russia Building Underwater Nuclear Drone
An internal Pentagon nuclear study confirms Russia is developing an intercontinental-range nuclear-armed underwater drone.
The autonomous torpedo is among an array of new strategic weapons being developed by Moscow as part of a nuclear modernization underway over the past decade.
Russian nuclear modernization includes multiple upgrades for older missiles, launchers, bombers, and submarines, according to an internal draft of the Nuclear Posture Review, a major policy study to be made public in final form later this month.
The draft was published last week by the Huffington Post and labeled "unclassified/for official use only" and "pre-decisional."
The report states that the new strategic arms are in addition to the modernization of legacy Soviet weapons, and "multiple upgrades" for all legs of Russian nuclear forces including strategic bombers, sea-based missiles, and land-based missiles.
"Russia is also developing at least two new intercontinental range systems, a hypersonic glide vehicle, and a new intercontinental, nuclear-armed, undersea autonomous torpedo," the report says.

Breaking News: Amazon named 20 finalists in the fierce contest for its second headquarters. The cities include existing tech hubs, and a few surprises.
Amazon said on Thursday that it had whittled the list of possible homes for its second headquarters down to 20, including centers of technology like Boston as well as some surprise locations like Columbus, Ohio.
The company, based in Seattle, selected the finalists out of a pile of more than 238 applications submitted by local officials in Mexico, Canada and the United States — all of them eager to attract the 50,000 high-paying jobs the company says it could bring. When the unusual public contest was announced in September, it set off a public charm offensive by the applicants, with many local officials trying to entice Amazon with tax breaks and other benefits.

Wicomico County Public School Make Up Days
As a result of the five days Wicomico County Public Schools were closed for Winter Storm Grayson, the school system is planning adjustments to the 2017-2018 school year calendar to address the missed days.
The Board-approved 2017-2018 calendar includes three potential makeup days at the end of the school year. Wicomico schools will be in session on those designated makeup days, which are June 13, 14 and June 15; these are all early dismissal days. (Please note that June 8, 11 and 12 are now full school days rather than early dismissal days.)
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Donna C. Hanlin, with the support of the Board of Education, will request a waiver for the other two missed days. This request is based on the fact that on Jan. 4 and 5, the storm caused such extreme safety concerns in our area that a state of emergency was declared by Gov. Larry Hogan, Wicomico County and the City of Salisbury.
This waiver request for two days will be submitted to the Maryland State Board of Education. Wicomico Schools will await the state board’s response before making any other adjustments to this year’s calendar, Dr. Hanlin said. An updated calendar will be posted once all changes have been finalized.
Students and families should note these other adjustments to the 2017-2018 school calendar:
• High school students will have mid-term exams on Friday, Jan. 26 (Periods 6 and 7); Tuesday, Jan. 30 (Periods 4 and 5); and Wednesday, Jan. 31 (Periods 1, 2 and 3).
• The second marking term will now end on Wednesday, Jan. 31.
• Report cards will be distributed on Wednesday, Feb. 7.

Maryland Mother Accused Of Mailing Drugs To Her Inmate Son
Georgetown – Investigators at the Sussex Correctional Institution (SCI) have arrested Angel Osborne, 43, of Hurlock, Maryland for sending narcotics to her son, Patrick Osborne, an inmate serving time at SCI for unrelated charges, according to Delaware Department of Corrections Spokeswoman Jayme Gravell.
Gravell said investigators learned in late December that a shipment of contraband was expected to arrive at the prison. Investigators determined that Angel Osborne would be sending the contraband through the United States Postal Service, according to Gravell. Investigators were able to intercept the narcotics before they reached the incarcerated individuals.

Ocean City’s Topless Ordinance Challenged In Federal Court
OCEAN CITY — The long-simmering issue of the legality of women going topless in the same areas where men are allowed bubbled to the surface this week with the filing of a federal suit challenging Ocean City’s ordinance prohibiting the practice last summer.
Last June, the Ocean City Mayor and Council passed an emergency ordinance prohibiting women from going topless in public areas like the beach and Boardwalk. The ordinance was passed in response to Chelsea Covington’s request from the town, the Worcester County State’s Attorney’s Office and the Maryland Attorney General’s Office for clarification of the existing state laws prohibiting female toplessness in public areas.
Covington, an advocate for female bare-chestedness in public through the Top Freedom initiative, often goes topless in public places in Maryland including Ocean City and Assateague, for example. In 2016, she sought an opinion from the Town of Ocean City and its police department on the legality of the practice. The issue was forwarded to the Worcester County State’s Attorney’s Office for guidance.

Journos Can't Accept Trump Is Healthy
White House doctor Ronny Jackson confirmed on Tuesday that President Trump is perfectly healthy, but reporters are accusing him of hiding something.
Journalists have long questioned the president’s mental health and fitness for office, but Dr. Jackson debunked any notion that Trump is unhealthy and called his mental health “excellent.”
However, reporters are still unwilling to accept that nothing is wrong with the president and have taken to Twitter to express their displeasure with Dr. Jackson’s assessment of Trump.
CNN’s Brian Stelter, who routinely talks about Trump’s fitness, wrote that Trump passing a cognitive exam has nothing to do with being “unfit.”

Armed Antifa Prof Admits Chasing Charlottesville Driver -- Before Deadly Crash!
Leftist brags about armed intimidation which may have been a factor in death of Heather Heyer
An Antifa leader admitted on social media to chasing down the Charlottesville driver with a rifle, causing him to ram into a group of counterprotesters.
University of North Carolina anthropology professor Dwayne Dixon is the leader of armed Antifa group Redneck Revolt, who admitted to using armed intimidation to chase James Alex Fields, Jr. into a group of fellow counterprotesters which resulted in one death and dozens injured last August.
“I take perverse pleasure in having carried this Spike’s lower in the defense of Justice Park on August 12th. I used this rifle to chase off James Fields from our block of 4th St before he attacked the marchers to the south. Spike’s needs a good lesson in ethics and antifascism,” Dixon posted on Facebook.

America’s Fastest Spy Plane May Be Back—and Hypersonic
For years, Lockheed Martin Corp. has been developing a successor to one of the fastest aircraft the world has ever seen, the SR-71 Blackbird, the Cold War reconnaissance aircraft that the U.S. Air Force retired almost three decades ago. Lockheed officials have said the hypersonic SR-72—dubbed the “Son of Blackbird” by one trade journal—could fly by 2030.
But a rather curious talk last week at an aerospace conference by a Lockheed Skunk Works executive implied that the SR-72 might already exist. Referring to detailed specifics of company design and manufacturing, Jack O’Banion, a Lockheed vice president, said a “digital transformation” arising from recent computing capabilities and design tools had made hypersonic development possible. Then—assuming O’Banion chose his word tense purposely—came the surprise.
“Without the digital transformation the aircraft you see there could not have been made,” O’Banion said, standing by an artist’s rendering of the hypersonic aircraft. “In fact, five years ago, it could not have been made.”
Hypersonic applies to speeds above Mach 5, or five times the speed of sound. The SR-71 cruised at Mach 3.2, more than 2,000 mph, at around 85,000 feet.

"Take 3" Actions to Fight the Flu
Flu is currently widespread in most of the United States, but it’s not too late to take measures to reduce your risk of getting the flu. “The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend a yearly flu vaccine as the first and most important step in protecting yourself against the flu,” states Wicomico County Health Office Lori Brewster. “Everyone 6 months of age and older can be vaccinated,” Brewster continues, “and this is particularly important for people at high risk of serious complications such as young children, pregnant women, people with chronic health conditions, and people 65 years and older.”
Another important step according to Brewster is to take everyday preventative actions. These include:
· Avoid close contact with sick people.
· While sick, limit contact with others as much as possible to keep from infecting them.
· If you are sick with flu-like illness, stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone except to get medical care or for other necessities (your fever should be gone for 24 hours without the use of a fever-reducing medicine).
· Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, and throw away the tissue in the trash after you use it.
· Wash your hands often with soap and water. If they are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
· Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth to keep germs from spreading.
· Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that may be contaminated with germs like the flu.
A third step to prevent flu is to take antiviral drugs if you get the flu and your doctor prescribes them. These prescription drugs are different from antibiotics and can make illness milder and shorter. Brewster says, “Getting treated can prevent serious flu complications.”
Flu-like symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills, and fatigue. Some people may also have vomiting and diarrhea, or not have a fever.

Attorney General Frosh Joins 18 Attorneys General in Calling for Banking Legislation for Legalized Use of Marijuana
BALTIMORE, MD – Maryland Attorney General Brian E. Frosh today joined a coalition of attorneys general urging Congress to advance legislation allowing states with legalized medical or recreational marijuana to bring that commerce into the banking system. Banks and other depository institutions are currently hindered by federal law from providing financial services to marijuana businesses, even in states where those businesses are regulated.
The letter, sent to congressional leaders, requests legislation that would provide a legal “safe harbor” for depository institutions that provide a financial product or service to a covered business in a state that regulates its marijuana industry.

Marathon runner dies two days after flu diagnosis
A 40-year-old mother in San Jose, Calif., died two days after catching the flu, The San Francisco Chronicle reported, citing local media.
Katie Denise Oxley Thomas, who was considered healthy and liked to run marathons, died on Jan. 4, the report said. She is the 42nd Californian under the age of 65 to die from the flu, the paper reported.
“I can tell you that she seemed absolutely fine on New Year’s Eve and called a friend Tuesday morning saying that she had a sore throat, and by Wednesday she was in the ICU,” her sister told The Mercury News.
“The doctor was saying that he had never seen anything like this, and it was not supposed to happen,” she said.
The family asked for a private autopsy. Her father believes she had gotten the flu shot, KGO reported.
Thomas had three children from 7 to 17.

Alabama player who tried to punch coach transfers to TSU
A linebacker on the University of Alabama's college football team has transferred to another school after he attempted to punch an assistant coach during last week's national title game, it was reported on Tuesday.
Mekhi Brown, a 6ft5in, 240-pound sophomore, has enrolled at Tennessee State University, according to The Tennessean.
Brown applied to TSU in the fall – more than a month before his team went on to defeat Georgia in the national championship game in Atlanta last Monday.
During the third quarter of the game, Brown committed a personal foul penalty when he punched Georgia's Wyatt Payne during a play.
That penalty earned him a rebuke from his head coach, Nick Saban.

Replacing the Mainstream Media
We complain about how biased the so-called mainstream media is but what do we do about it? CNN, MSNBC, NBC, ABC and CBS dominate TV news. The New York Times and The Washington Post dominate print media. Everywhere you turn you can’t escape their presence. CNN is carried in far more markets than Fox News. President Trump complained about having CNN but not Fox News when traveling in hotels overseas. Google News artificially elevates The New York Times and The Washington Post on its homepage and in search results.
A Pew survey just came out that revealed Americans trust our media even less than the Russians trust their media. Trump has drawn attention to the constant biased “errors” in mainstream reporting, referring to them as fake news. Almost every week there’s another story about false reporting, with a biased media organization forced to issue a retraction. We’re at a crossroads, where the mainstream media has lost so much credibility it may never recover to its former lofty status.
Since the Fourth Estate is so powerful, the best way to combat it is from multiple angles. First of all, stop sharing articles on social media from left-leaning publications. More than two-thirds of American adults get news from social media. Forty-five percent get news from Facebook. Eleven percent get news from Twitter. If you find a news article you want to share, look and see if Fox News, Townhall, or another site on the right has also written on the topic. And start sharing multiple sites and authors on the right, not just the most well-known ones. We need to get people used to seeing a full spectrum of sites on the right to choose from; have them become household names. You may not enjoy Twitter, but there are a lot of articles shared there now. Learn how to use Tweetdeck or another application with it in order to understand and make use of it.
Stop watching left-leaning network and cable news. Cable news is rapidly losing subscribers as people switch to streaming. Fox News has shows available to watch over streaming TV, including live over YouTube, which can be watched on TV with a PlayStation. There are conservative news stations that are generally online-only like NewsMaxTV. The Sinclair Broadcast Group partners with local TV stations to provide conservative leaning content. Find out which station in your area hosts their content and stick to that station if you’re going to watch a local TV station.
