J.D. Merrill, Martin O’Malley’s Son-In-Law, Says He’ll Run For State Senator

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — J.D. Merrill, the son-in-law of former Governor Martin O’Malley, will officially run for State Senator in Maryland’s 41st District.

The 41st District includes parts of Baltimore County and Baltimore City.

Merrill made the announcement via Twitter on Monday saying “We need leadership that is focused on improving our schools.”

Over the last year, Merill was the special assistant to the Chief of Staff at Baltimore City Public Schools. Before that he was the executive assistant to the Chief of Staff. Merrill also led special projects for the administration at Baltimore City Public Schools.

On his campaign website, Merill says he led a $2.2 million campaign to build a new library and learning center while he was a teacher at Baltimore City College.

Sahara Desert covered in SNOW: Pictures show Ain Sefra covered in 15 INCHES of snow

More than 15 inches (40cm) has blanketed sand dunes across the small town of Ain Sefra, Algeria.

It is the second time snow has hit in nearly 40 years, with a dusting also recorded in December 2016.

But this snowfall which hit yesterday, is much deeper than the fleeting shower little more than a year ago.

Locals, who endure temperatures of 37C in summer, were stunned as dense snow settled on the town, known as ‘the gateway to the desert’.

Scandal: Oprah’s World Depopulation Scheme Dashes Presidential Hopes

Oprah met secretly with Soros, Rockefeller to discuss population reduction

Oprah Winfrey met in secret with George Soros and other billionaires to discuss a plan to depopulate the world.

The 2009 meeting in Manhattan, organized by Bill Gates, was so discreet that the billionaires’ aides were told to treat it as a “security briefing,” and attendees also included the late David Rockefeller, Warren Buffett, Ted Turner and Michael Bloomberg, in addition to Oprah and Soros.

“Taking their cue from Gates, they agreed that overpopulation was a priority,” reported The Sunday Times in describing the meeting, which revolved around population reduction starting with third-world countries.

Governor Larry Hogan Announces Accountability in Education Initiatives

Proposes Legislation to Fix Failing Schools, Establish Education Investigator General; Provides $2.5 Million for Emergency Repairs & $11 Million in Additional Funding for Baltimore City Schools

ANNAPOLIS, MD –
Governor Larry Hogan today announced a series of legislative and administrative initiatives to improve accountability in Maryland’s K-12 public schools, as well as funding to address emergency heating issues in Baltimore City schools that have created dangerous conditions for students and teachers in recent days. The governor was joined by Department of General Services Secretary Ellington Churchill, Chief Legislative Officer Chris Shank, Deputy Chief of Staff Tiffany Robinson, and Senior Advisor Keiffer Mitchell.

“Education has always been our administration’s top priority. We have provided record funding for education three years in row, and we will do so again this year for the fourth straight year,” said Governor Hogan. “We are so proud that we have some of the best schools in America, but unfortunately, too many deserving children continue to be stuck in schools that are consistently failing them year after year.”

The governor first addressed the dire consequences of a bill passed in the last legislative session. That bill handcuffs the state’s ability to fix failing schools and puts Maryland behind nearly every other state in compliance with the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), an Obama administration initiative to improve standards across the K-12 education system. Due to the misleadingly titled “Protect Our Schools Act,” Maryland has the second weakest education accountability system in the country by counting academic performance at just 65 percent, whereas most states have academic performance measures between 75 and 95 percent.

To correct this unacceptable inadequacy, the governor announced that he will submit emergency legislation on the first day of the upcoming session – the Protect Our Students Act of 2018 – which will require academic performance to be counted as 80 percent of a school’s composite score, aligning Maryland with the national average.

“This reckless law propels our schools into a race toward the bottom and directly threatens Maryland’s well-earned reputation as a national leader in education,” said Governor Hogan. “This isn’t about politics; this is about our children and their future.”

Maryland Attorney General News Releases Update

Attorney General Frosh Announces Settlement with Structured Settlement Factoring Company Consumers to Receive Full Restitution
Baltimore, MD (January 8, 2018) – Maryland Attorney General Brian E. Frosh announced today that his Consumer Protection Division has entered into a settlement resolving an investigation into Annuity Sold, LLC, its affiliated companies (Uber Funding, LLC, Bendermere Capital Solutions, LLC, Axis Funding, LLC, Stonebridge Capital, LLC, Greenspring Funding, LLC, LSG, LLC, Preak Street, LLC, ILILIL2010, LLC, Palantir Packaging, LLC, and JRR Funding, LLC), and its owners (collectively “Respondents”). The settlement resolves allegations that Respondents violated the Maryland Consumer Protection Act by misleading injured Marylanders, some of whom are victims of lead paint poisoning, to convert future structured settlement payments into immediate cash. Under the settlement agreement, Respondents are required to pay full restitution to all Marylanders, which is estimated to be between $450,000 and $500,000, as well as civil fines and costs between $175,000 and $425,000.

“Structured settlements are intended to provide long term care and support for individuals, such as lead paint poisoning victims, who suffered a life changing injury,” said Attorney General Frosh. “We will continue to fight to stop predatory companies who use deceptive sales tactics and other misrepresentations to take advantage of vulnerable Marylanders.”

Apple Investors Urge Action to Curb Child Gadget Addiction

Two major Apple investors have urged the iPhone maker to take action to curb growing smartphone addiction among children, highlighting growing concern about the effects of gadgets and social media on youngsters.

New York-based Jana Partners LLC and the California State Teachers' Retirement System, or CalSTRS, said Monday in open letter to Apple that the company must offer more choices and tools to help children fight addiction to its devices.

"There is a developing consensus around the world including Silicon Valley that the potential long-term consequences of new technologies need to be factored in at the outset, and no company can outsource that responsibility," the letter said. "Apple can play a defining role in signaling to the industry that paying special attention to the health and development of the next generation is both good business and the right thing to do."

Trump Ends Temporary Protected Status For 200,000 El Salvadorans

President Donald Trump’s deputies are ending the often-extended ‘TPS’ temporary refugee status for up to 200,000 El Salvadoran migrants, which was first granted when earthquakes hit their home country in 2001.

The TPS decision underlines Trump’s determination to enforce the nation’s immigration laws, and to push his “Buy American, Hire American” inauguration-day promise, despite growing pressure from the GOP’s business-first wing, Democrats and their allies in the establishment media.

The decision also pressures Democrats to accept Trump’s immigration reforms — or else run as the pro-amnesty political party in November 2018.

Statement from Governor Larry Hogan on Passing of Former Congresswoman Marjorie Holt

ANNAPOLIS, MD – Governor Larry Hogan today issued the following statement on the passing of former Congresswoman Marjorie Holt:

“It is with great sadness that the First Lady and I learn of the passing of former Congresswoman Marjorie Holt, who served alongside my father in the U.S. House of Representatives. As the first Republican woman from Maryland to be elected to Congress, she helped to chip away at the glass ceiling, paving the way for the next generation of women leaders from Maryland. Congresswoman Holt faithfully represented the Fourth District for 14 years, and her dedication to our great state will never be forgotten. May she rest in peace.”

Maryland flags will be lowered on the day of Congresswoman Holt’s interment.

These Are the U.S. Cities With the Worst Bed Bug Infestations

Baltimore is known for its historic neighborhoods, monuments, crab cakes — and, increasingly, its bed bugs.

For the second straight year, the U.S. port city ranked No. 1 on a Top 50 Bed Bug Cities list compiled by Atlanta-based pest control services company Orkin LLC.

The list, released Monday, is based on the most residential and commercial treatments for the seed-sized bloodsuckers from December 2016 to November 2017, and reflects a rising number of infestations across the U.S., according to Tim Husen, an Orkin entomologist.

Washington, 40 miles from Baltimore, was ranked second on Orkin’s list, followed by Chicago, Los Angeles and Columbus, Ohio.

The Baltimore City Health Department doesn’t have any bed bug mitigation programs, according to its website, which gives tips on identifying and controlling the ancient critters.

D.C. AG Used Outside 527 Group to Coordinate Comms When Announcing Trump Suit

Washington, D.C.'s attorney general brought in a 527 political group, the Democratic Attorneys General Association (DAGA), to help manage media outreach when the office joined with the Maryland AG to sue President Donald Trump for violating the "emoluments clause" of the Constitution last June, emails show.

DAGA and its Republican counterpart, the Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA), have largely been used as campaign tools to raise funds and promote candidates and their campaigns. However, as emails sent by the attorney general's office in Washington, D.C., and obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request show, DAGA is becoming involved and integrated in the day-to-day operations of some elected officials.

"527" organizations such as RAGA and DAGA "are typically parties, candidates, committees, or associations organized for the purpose of influencing an issue, policy, appointment, or election, be it federal, state or local," according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

Several emails showed DAGA officials setting a conference call with a subject line, "Emoluments Case Comms Coordination." The emails were sent to members of DAGA and the D.C. attorney general's office, as well as employees of the PR firm BerlinRosen, which has offices in Los Angeles, D.C., and New York. DAGA also brought in a political consultant for these conversations as well, the emails show and DAGA confirmed.

Democrats May Rue DHS Takeover of Vote Fraud Investigation

Under the heading, “be careful what you wish for, you might just get it,” the satisfaction Democrats, other leftist organizations and their media allies derived from President Donald Trump’s decision to disband the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity, led by Vice President Mike Pence and Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, may be short-lived.

Not that they get it — yet. Thus, the reliably feverish Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) reiterated the Left’s tiresome tropes that ensuring the integrity of American elections constitutes “a front to suppress the vote” and an effort to “perpetrate dangerous and baseless claims.” Schumer further insisted the Committee’s disbandment demonstrates that “ill-founded proposals that just appeal to a narrow group of people won’t work, and we hope they’ll learn this lesson elsewhere.”

Schumer’s assertion that protecting elections resonates solely with a “narrow group” is laughable. A 2015 CBS News poll revealed a majority of Americans considered voter fraud to be fairly widespread, and a 2016 Gallup poll revealed a whopping 80% of Americans favor requiring voters to provide photo ID to cast a ballot.

WikiLeaks: John Podesta Was Briefed On "Gross Negligence" Before FBI Removed Phrase From Clinton Exoneration

Hillary Clinton's chief of staff, John Podesta, received an email from an advisor which brought up the phrase "gross negligence" in regards to the FBI's email investigation before the FBI agent in charge of the probe removed the phrase from her exoneration statement, according to WikiLeaks.

In a March 2016 email from former Bill Clinton Chief of Staff Tina Flournoy to Clinton campaign chairman Podesta's Gmail account, Flournoy included links to two articles concerning the FBI email investigation; one from the Washington Post which minimized Clinton's actions, and a legal analysis from retired D.C. attorney Paul Mirengoff in which he suggests Clinton was "grossly negligent or worse" and may be in serious hot water. Dershowitz: Dems Declaring Trump Mentally Ill Straight Out of Communist Playbook

“That’s what they did in Russia”

Harvard law school professor Alan Dershowitz warns that Democrats attempting to declare Trump mentally unfit to hold office is straight out of the Communist playbook of brutal regimes like Soviet Russia, who repressed and imprisoned political dissidents by declaring them to be mentally ill.

Asked if the chatter was intended to have a destabilizing effect, Dershowitz responded, “Well it’s very dangerous, there’s only one thing worse than trying to criminalize political differences and that’s trying to psychiatrize them.”

“These psychiatrists now who are trying to diagnose without ever having met the man – that’s what they did in Russia. I represented dissidents who they locked up in mental hospitals, that’s what they did in China, that’s what they did in apartheid South Africa,” added the Harvard professor.

He went on to assert that leftists were trying to “undo democracy” by accusing a president of being mentally unstable without any evidence whatsoever.

Dershowitz said that he didn’t personally vote for Trump but that the idea of “diagnosing him instead of opposing him politically poses an enormous danger to democracy.”

DAQUAN CARTIER DICKERSON GUILTY OF 2nd DEGREE MURDER AND RELATED OFFENSES

On September 29, 2017, after a three day jury trial, Daquan Cartier Dickerson, age 21, of Salisbury, was convicted by a Wicomico County Jury of Murder 2nd Degree, Conspiracy, Handgun Use in a Felony, and related offenses. An investigation conducted by the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit in conjunction with the Salisbury Police Department revealed that just after midnight on May 10, 2016, along with two other codefendants, Joshua Perry and Gerald Savage, Dickerson shot and killed an adult victim in the stairwell of the Waterside Apartments. The shooting was captured on video surveillance and showed Dickerson and Perry covertly walk behind the apartment complex and begin to shoot as soon as they saw the victim in the stairwell. Dickerson shot multiple rounds into the stairwell area, at least five of them striking the victim and many others entering surrounding apartments.

On January 9, 2018, Daquan Dickerson was sentenced to serve 100 years active incarceration in the Division of Corrections. Dickerson received the maximum sentence on Murder 2nd degree and many related counts.

Wicomico County Ad Interim State’s Attorney Jamie L. Dykes commended the Maryland State Police and the Salisbury City Police Department, Det/Sgt. Sabrina Metzger and Det. A.J. Foy, for their work in the investigation and prosecution of this case. Ms. Dykes also thanked Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Kristen Schultz and Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Karen Dean who prosecuted the case.

Breaking News: Stephen Bannon is leaving his post at Breitbart News. He lost support among conservative backers after he was denounced by President Trump.

Stephen K. Bannon is stepping down from his post as executive chairman of Breitbart News, the company will announce on Tuesday.

Mr. Bannon’s departure, which was forced by a onetime financial patron, Rebekah Mercer, comes as Mr. Bannon remained unable to quell the furor over remarks attributed to him in a new book in which he questions President Trump’s mental fitness and disparages his elder son, Donald Trump Jr.

POLLAK: Why Republicans Should Not Cave to Democrat Demands on DACA

President Donald Trump outlined the basic structure of a DACA deal on Sunday.

The so-called “Dreamers” — illegal aliens brought to the U.S. as minors — would be able to stay legally in the country, but only if a border wall is built.

(DACA refers to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals policy, an Obama-era program that covers some 800,000 “Dreamers” and is arguably unconstitutional. Trump canceled it in September, effective March 2018.)

Trump’s deal might be acceptable to conservatives, as long as the wall comes first and there are other safeguards, like mandatory e-verify and an end to chain migration. But Democrats seem convinced they can hold out for more.

First of all, Democrats believe that they have all the political momentum. They think that they are going to ride a wave to victory in the midterm elections in November. Moreover, talk of removing the president from office, either by impeachment or the use of the 25th Amendment, has many Democrats believing time is on their side..

Facebook Bug Could Have Revealed User Phone Numbers to Advertisers

Facebook has announced that a system bug may have revealed users’ personal phone numbers to advertisers.

WIRED reports that a bug in Facebook’s ad-targeting tools allowed advertisers to gain Facebook users’ phone numbers from their email address and even gave advertisers access to the phone numbers of users that visited a particular web page. The issue was reported by a group of researchers from the U.S., France, and Germany at the end of May. Facebook paid out a “bug bounty” of $5000 to the researchers at the time and implemented a fix for the bug on December 22.

The bug represents a huge breach of Facebook’s data-use policy which specifically states, “We do not share information that personally identifies you … with advertising, measurement or analytics partners unless you give us permission.” Facebook has stated that to their knowledge, no one has used the exploit to gain access to user data due to the level of skill required to trigger the bug, but according to Neil Gong, a professor at Iowa State who works on social-network privacy, this issue represents a larger problem with Facebook’s business model.

Trump’s Stellar Judges

A promising reorientation of the judiciary has begun Donald Trump deserves thunderous acclaim from conservatives for his outstanding record of judicial appointments during his first year as president. But his conspicuous successes should not obscure the many obstacles on the long path to genuine transformation of the federal judiciary. Those obstacles have seriously impeded judicial confirmations and threaten to continue to do so. But if they are cleared or eluded, and if Republicans retain control of the Senate after the 2018 elections, President Trump will be positioned to make a huge enduring impact on the courts during his first term.

Trump’s most important achievement on the judicial front in 2017 was his appointment of Supreme Court justice Neil Gorsuch to fill the vacancy left by Antonin Scalia’s death in February 2016. That appointment consummated Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell’s strategy of keeping the vacancy open through the 2016 presidential election, and it resoundingly vindicated the wisdom of that strategy. Even better, the Senate Democrats’ foolish obstruction of the Gorsuch nomination on the Senate floor drove Senate Republicans to abolish the filibuster (the 60-vote threshold for cloture) for Supreme Court nominations. So, when the next Supreme Court vacancy arises, the White House will have the benefit of knowing from the outset that it needs the support of only 50 senators, together with the tie-breaking vote of Vice President Mike Pence, to secure the confirmation of its nominee.

In 2017, President Trump also appointed twelve federal appellate judges — a record for a president in his first year in office. (President Obama appointed three federal appellate judges in his first year and 55 over his eight years.) Beyond their number, Trump’s appellate appointees have, on the whole, outstanding credentials and are highly regarded in conservative legal circles. Indeed, six of the twelve have already earned their way onto Trump’s list of Supreme Court candidates. The twelve include three women — Amy Coney Barrett, a former Scalia clerk who was a professor of law at Notre Dame; Joan Larsen, also a former Scalia clerk and a Michigan supreme-court justice; and Allison Eid, who clerked for Justice Thomas and served on the Colorado supreme court for eleven years. They also include two Asian Americans, Amul Thapar, a Bush 43 appointee to a federal district-court judgeship, and James Ho, a distinguished appellate lawyer who was also a Thomas clerk.

Troopers Arrest Man Suspected Of Firing At Cambridge Officers

(CAMBRIDGE, Md.) — Maryland State Police arrested a man on Monday who is suspected of firing at Cambridge Police Department officers this past December.

The suspect, William Manokey, 46, of Cambridge, is charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree attempted murder, two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, concealment of a dangerous weapon, possession of a dangerous weapon with intent to injure, possession of a handgun and the use of a firearm in a felony violent crime. He is being held without bond at the Dorchester County Detention Center.

Shortly after 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 18, 2017, two officers from the Cambridge Police Department were conducting a crime reduction patrol in an area of the city where thefts from vehicles had been occurring. According to the preliminary investigation, the officers were traveling in the area of Race Street and Goldsborough Avenue, when they observed the suspect walking along the street. As they drove toward him, the man was seen reaching into his waistband. Before the officers could stop their vehicle, the suspect withdrew a large caliber handgun and is believed to have fired once at the officers.

One of the Cambridge Police Department officers got out of the vehicle and fired what is believed to be once at the suspect, who ran away. The officer ran after the suspect, but did not capture him.

Breaking News: Joe Arpaio, the former Arizona sheriff and immigration hard-liner who was pardoned by President Trump, is running for Senate

The move by Mr. Arpaio, who just six months ago faced the prospect of a jail sentence for criminal contempt, upends the race to replace Senator Jeff Flake, a Republican who abandoned his 2018 re-election campaign after coming under criticism from Mr. Trump.
“Being a U.S. senator is a little different than being the sheriff, because you can do a lot of things in the U.S. Senate, and I have many plans, believe me,” Mr. Arpaio told the Washington Examiner in announcing his bid. “I have a lot to offer. I’m a big supporter of President Trump.”

Charles R. Mason IV

New Castle – Delaware State Police have arrested an Elsmere man responsible for the theft of multiple vehicles, occurring over the span of five weeks, one of which was a carjacking, with children in the vehicle.

On Sunday, January 7, 2018, at approximately 11:08 p.m., Troopers responded to the Wawa, located at 4000 N. DuPont Highway, New Castle, for a vehicle theft that had just occurred. The Hollywood Hypocrisy Awards Show

Well, we already have a celebrity president, so why not follow up with another one? That’s apparently the biggest takeaway from the media’s coverage of Sunday night’s Golden Globe awards. Oprah Winfrey evidently made a rousing and emotional speech (did anyone in middle America actually watch it?) that had the Hollywood and media elite having all the feels (as the kids say these days). From NBC tweeting “respect for OUR future president” over a gif of Oprah to all the other celebrities and fellow travelers immediately lifting her banner for 2020, the next presidential election got a lot of attention.

To be fair, Oprah had some good lines. “For too long, women have not been heard or believed if they dared to speak their truth to the power of those men,” she said. “But their time is up. Their time is up. Their time is up.” Every American should say “amen” to ending sexual abuse, particularly at the hands of powerful men. And to the extent Hollywood really does change its ways, good for them.

That said, after decades of cowardly silence, the spectacle of a theater full of the Hollywood glitterati giving themselves awards for play acting while wearing black to make a statement against sexual abuse (unless they were wearing other skimpy attire that sends a very different message) was too much for our taste. But our taste isn’t what these ritzy entertainers are after. No, these leftists want to incite female voter outrage as an election strategy to help Democrats.

Google sued for allegedly discriminating against conservative white men

The author of the controversial memo that upended Google in August is suing the company, alleging that white, male conservatives are systematically discriminated against by Google.

James Damore was fired as an engineer after the manifesto, which questioned the benefits of diversity programs and suggested women may be biologically inferior engineers, was widely passed around the company. In a new lawsuit, he and another fired engineer claim that “employees who expressed views deviating from the majority view at Google on political subjects raised in the workplace and relevant to Google’s employment policies and its business, such as ‘diversity’ hiring policies, ‘bias sensitivity,’ or ‘social justice,’ were/are singled out, mistreated, and systematically punished and terminated from Google, in violation of their legal rights.”

Attorneys for Damore and the other engineer, David Gudeman, filed the lawsuit today in California’s Santa Clara Superior Court, and are seeking to represent others whose rights they claim were also violated — specifically, the company’s conservative white men. The lawsuit contains dozens of pages of internal Google communications that, according to the suit, demonstrate anti-conservative sentiment at the company, although that characterization seems debatable in several of the cited examples.

House approves concealed-carry reciprocity, gun bill faces challenge in Senate

House Republicans on Wednesday voted in favor of making concealed-carry permits valid across state lines, scoring a major victory for gun-rights supporters.

But similar Senate legislation still faces an uncertain future, with top Democrats and other gun-control advocates rallying in opposition on Capitol Hill.

“Despite scare tactics by the bill’s opponents, concealed-carry licensees as a group have proven to be more law-abiding than the general population and even the police,” the NRA said before balloting. “We are on the eve of passing the most expansive piece of self-defense legislation in the history of Congress.”

Got $1 million to retire? Here’s how long it will last in every U.S. state

If your retirement plan was basking in a tropical paradise, let’s hope your vision of a tropical paradise resembles something more like Mississippi and less like Hawaii.

Either that, or let’s hope you were planning on a short retirement.

Data analysis site HowMuch analyzed how far $1 million goes in retirement in every U.S. state. And it turns out you can stretch $1 million about twice as far in Mississippi as you can in Hawaii. HowMuch crunched the numbers based on the cost-of-living Index for the second quarter of 2017 as well as average annual expenditure of people 65 years old and above.

That $1 million would allow the average retired person in Mississippi to live for 25 years and six months, while $1 million only gets you 13 years and one month of retirement in Hawaii.

Media Backs Oprah Because She’s ‘Not a White Man’

Dems bring back Hillary Clinton playbook!

Much like Hillary Clinton, the mainstream media is suggesting Oprah Winfrey would make a good president simply because she’s “not a white man.”

“She’s not a white man, she’s liberal, she’s flirted with the notion of running, she’s a voice for women and the abused in a sullied Hollywood industry, she’s famous,” Axios reported. “She’s the anti-Trump, which helps explain this morning’s over-the-top political speculation about a nine minute speech.”

The exact same claims were made about Clinton, including the laughable suggestion she was a “champion for women” despite her husband Bill having to settle sex lawsuits.

NBC retracts ‘stunningly unprofessional’ tweet declaring Oprah Winfrey ‘our’ next president

NBC apparently forgot it has a news division on Sunday night when it campaigned for Oprah Winfrey to run for president, but on Monday, the network blamed a third party for an errant tweet backing the TV talk show queen's supposed 2020 ambitions.

“Nothing but respect for OUR future president,” the verified NBC account tweeted on Sunday night during its Golden Globes telecast, complete with an image of Winfrey, after host Seth Meyers joked about his desire for the talk show icon to run for office.

Early Monday, NBC appeared to back off the apparent Oprah endorsement, and blamed it on a "third party"...

Media Research Center Vice President Dan Gainor told Fox News that the initial tweet was “stunningly unprofessional” and it’s the “latest of about a billion examples” of how openly liberal and anti-Trump the mainstream media is on a regular basis.

Poll: 33% of NFL fans 'purposely stopped watching' this Season

Players protesting during national anthem led outraged Americans to boycott

Throughout this 2017 NFL season, television ratings have declined and fans, TV pundits, and reporters have speculated as to the biggest cause. On social media, many people railed that players protesting during the national anthem led outraged Americans to boycott.

A new survey from SurveyMonkey and Ozy Media, shared first with Yahoo Finance, finds that 33% of NFL fans boycotted the league this year—but not entirely because they were outraged by the player protests. Nearly equal proportions boycotted in support of Colin Kaepernick or the protests as boycotted in support of President Trump, who vocally opposed the protests.

The survey, conducted from Dec. 8—11 of 2017, polled a national sample of 1,726 adults ages 18 and up. It found that 1,233 of those people identifed as football fans.

The survey then asked the football fans: “Did you purposely stop watching or attending NFL games this season for any reason?” 33% of respondents said yes.

YES SHE CAN! Oprah Says Old Racist White People "Just Have to Die"

Liberals and media have been slobbering over the idea of Oprah 2020 since her speech at Sunday’s Golden Globe awards broadcast where she received the Cecil B. DeMille award.

Los Angeles Times reporter Amy Kaufman spoke to Winfrey’s longterm companion Stedman Graham after the show, “I asked Stedman if @oprah would run for President. “It’s up to the people. She would absolutely do it.”

In a 2013 BBC interview with Will Gompertz to discuss her move The Butler, Oprah said in order to achieve racial progress, there is an entire generation of prejudiced people who “just have to die”.

“Of course the problem is not solved. As long as people can be judged by the color of their skin, the problem is not solved. As long as there are people who still-and there’s a whole generation-I said this for apartheid in South Africa, I said this for my own community in the South. There’s still generations of people, old people who are born bred and marinated in it and that prejudice and racism and they just have to die.”

Oprah also claimed in the interview that Obama was disrespected because the color of his skin. Oh please just shut up Oprah.

And this is who the liberals and media would love to have as President of the United States.

You're gambling. Maryland casinos experience 2nd-best month in 17 years

WASHINGTON — Maryland’s six casinos generated just over $141 million in December, the second-best month since casino gaming in the state began in September 2010.

That falls just shy of the all-time monthly high for gaming revenue of $141.2 million in March 2017.

December’s casino revenue in Maryland was up 5.7 percent from the same month a year ago.

MGM National Harbor opened in December 2016, so it is the first month for year-over-year comparisons to include all of Maryland’s six casinos.

MGM National Harbor accounted for 40 percent of all gaming revenue at Maryland casinos, or about $57 million, 35 percent more than it brought in in its opening month a year earlier.

Many People On Facebook Cancelling Their Daily Times Newspaper

We didn't receive the paper for 2 days. Got yesterday's and today. Newspaper isn't what it used to be. We have thought about canceling it also.

I had problems with them when the weather was fine so did dad & mom we stop the paper some time ago

I quit getting it last summer too expensive & I view on line obituary's. Old news & already seen on TV. Saving $400 per year. They raised the price recently $10.per Mo. for some customers.

Daily Times Newspaper is seeing their last days as an actual newspaper. They are nothing we remember from our younger years. The good guys have moved on or lost their jobs to corporate. I finally gave up on them as well. I used to look forward to a cup of coffee and a newspaper in my mornings. Internet and poor management took them down.

Yes, no paper for 3 days!

Not had a problem in the last 12 years. That is when I quit buying it. LOL

We had problems before all this. I can understand now with the snow. We just cancelled it all together.

That is true. So we cancelled.

SEC Probing Kushner Companies Over Use Of Immigrant Visa Program

The SEC has launched an investigation into the real-estate company run by White House senior adviser (and Trump's son-in-law) Jared Kushner for its use of the "green cards for money" Federal visa program, according to the WSJ. Specifically, the SEC is probing Kushner Companies over its use of the investment-for-visa EB-5 program, which provides green cards to immigrants who invest at least $500,000 in U.S. businesses.

While the WSJ explains that "the precise nature of the SEC’s inquiry isn’t clear, nor is whether the subpoena identified particular projects" it notes that in May 2017, Kushner Cos. received a subpoena from the Securities and Exchange Commission requesting information about its use of the program. That month the company also received a separate subpoena from New York federal prosecutors asking for information about development projects financed in part by the EB-5 program. Kushner had been running the real estate business until last year, but resigned from the company to join the White House staff.

The SEC probe, which hasn’t been previously reported, is being conducted out of the commission’s Texas office and in collaboration with federal prosecutors from the Brooklyn U.S. attorney’s office, according to another person familiar with it.

By way of background, the EB-5 program offers green cards to aspiring immigrants who invest at least $500,000 in certain U.S. businesses that have been determined to create at least 10 jobs per investor. A green card permits a foreign national to live and work in the U.S. The majority of EB-5 visas go to wealthy Chinese individuals, according to DHS data.

WALSH: How To Lose Your Influence Over Your Child And Turn Him Into An Unthinking Zombie

Spoiler: give him a smartphone with internet access. That's the answer. And give it to him when he's young. The average child receives his first smartphone when he's 9 or 10, and getting younger. Soon we'll have a nation full of Snapchatting toddlers, no doubt. And their parents will look on contentedly, feeling no regrets about depriving their children of an actual human childhood. It's much more important, they figure, to stay up with the trends and keep their kids equipped with the latest tech gadgets.

I was thinking about this issue earlier in the week as controversy briefly raged over some guy named Logan Paul. Paul, if you recall, was so desperate for #content that he went into Japan’s “suicide forest” and filmed himself giggling over the corpse of a suicide victim. Paul eventually apologized and begged for forgiveness, and everyone has since moved on, but those of us above the age of 17 are left, still, asking one important question: Wait, who is Logan Paul?

As I discovered, Logan Paul is a “YouTube celebrity” with millions of young and devoted fans. He is one of many internet superstars who provide our children with hours of entertainment every day while we remain entirely oblivious of their existence. If Paul’s latest video hadn’t generated widespread outrage, your 11-year-old daughter may have spent 15 minutes watching a video featuring a dead man hanging from a tree in suicide forest without you ever finding out about it. Indeed, if your kid is like the statistically average kid, she spends about nine hours a day — nine hours — consuming media, mostly on the internet. And if you are anything like the statistically average parent, you have no clue about the nature of the images, sounds, and ideas she ingests during that span.

Muscle Inactivity More Harmful for Older People

A recent study published in The Journal of Physiology points out one reason why it's so important for seniors to remain physically active — and to get active again after a period of enforced inactivity such as hospitalization. Italian researchers found that the same period of inactivity has a greater and more severe impact on the muscles of the elderly than young people.

The study, which was conducted by the University of Udine in conjunction with the University of Padova found that not using muscles even a short time can dramatically enhance the decline in muscle mass and functional capacity, such as the ability to climb stairs. The decline was especially dramatic in the elderly.

Researchers studied the impact of complete inactivity in a group of elderly subjects that were bedridden in a hospital environment for weeks, and the results were compared with young subjects.

There was a difference in single muscle fiber response to disuse, a more pronounced loss of muscle mass, and a change in how muscle contraction is controlled by the nervous system in elderly subjects compared to young individuals. In addition, the recovery phase was more difficult in the elderly group.
