Hundreds of Security Badges Missing From Atlanta Airport
Hundreds of ID badges that let airport workers roam the nation's busiest hub have been stolen or lost in the last two years, an NBC News investigation has found.
While experts say the missing tags are a source of concern because they could fall into the wrong hands, officials at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport insist they don't pose "a significant security threat."
The wayward badges came to light when NBC-DFW asked airports across the country to reveal how many of them were unaccounted for. Only one, Atlanta, provided numbers before the Transportation Security Administration blocked the release of more data.
But at that single airport, where almost 60,000 people work, some 1,400 badges that allow employees to access secure areas like runways and boarding gates have gone missing over roughly two years.
"It's very, very serious. Without question," said Larry Wansley, who headed corporate security for American Airlines until 2004 and still consults for airports.

Local Salisbury Golden Corral At It Again: UPDATE, Post Goes Viral AGAIN
I would like to inform you of some practices occurring at your Salisbury MD restaurant.
On more than one occasion an employee, Caroline White, was called in for an extra, unscheduled shift as they were shorthanded for whatever reason. This resulted in Caroline being on the clock for more than forty hours in that week, requiring any hours over the forty to be paid at an overtime rate of time and a half. Not only was Caroline not paid the overtime rate, she was not paid even straight time rate, because there is a policy at the restaurant that forbids employees from earning overtime. This happened on 3 occasions that I am aware of, and if it happened to Caroline, it likely happened to others as well.
Do you at corporate headquarters have ANY idea the laws that were broken in these instances? Caroline remained silent at the time for fear of retribution, as she felt she needed to remain employed there until she found other employment, which she has and is no longer employed with your company.
On another occasion, there was to be a an inspection of the restaurant. Employees were working late in the evening to clean for this inspection. Caroline was asked by someone in authority (I'm assuming it was the GM, Jenny Lopez) to go for coffee and donuts from the local Dunkin Donuts. She did, paid for the coffee and donuts out of her own pocket, but was never reimbursed for the purchase. Is it routine Golden Corral policy to conduct business this way to strengthen the bottom line?
I would be remiss if I didn't tell you that there is a local blog site that is extremely popular in Salisbury. I have already sent this information to that blog site, who's owner is a friend of mine, urging the good people of Salisbury, MD to consider this mistreatment of a 17 year old college student by Golden Corral, Salisbury, MD, before they would darken the doorway of your restaurant again.
Publishers Notes: The last time we did an article about them, Golden Corral In Salisbury Flips The Bird To A Homecoming Soldier it went viral. In fact, even the local news stations followed us and in fact stole our exact title and exclusive story.

In a racially divided Maryland town, a new black police chief takes charge
POCOMOKE CITY, Md. — The new police chief walks into the Market Street Deli, a gathering spot in a town still scarred by months of racial turmoil.
Most of the diners are white. William “Bill” Harden Sr., who has been on the job for about a month, is black. He pauses at the door, wearing his black uniform with gold buttons and stars and a hat embroidered in gold with the city’s emblem and the word “Chief.”
Harden, 65, knows people in Pocomoke City are still getting to know him — and still getting over what led to him being hired.

Gains Hawkins just can't "get over it"
Mr. Hawkins, a member (along with Laura Mitchell) of the Wicomico County Democratic Central Committee, was Treasurer of Rick Pollitt's campaign committee – the "Friends of Rick." Since the election, he has published periodic epistles in, would you believe, the Daily Times trashing Bob Culver by putting him in a false light. Now that it has become clear, beyond any valid doubt, that the voters chose wisely in electing him and defeating Pollitt, Hawkins has become increasingly asinine in his attack.
In a recent piece, he portrays an imaginary “Culliverland,” in which a malicious "emperor" is posited as the perpetrator of evil and unethical actions. Replete with sophomoric plagiarism ("Once upon a time, a short, short time ago"), the piece suggests the arrival of a "New Day" – bet you can’t figure that one out – that makes it all better, maybe.
Hawkins continues to boil in his witches’ brew of venom and vituperation over the rejection of his pal Pollitt and other local Democrats – Conway, Brown, Mitchell, Hastings -- by Wicomico County voters. He must be blind to the fact that Salisbury has experienced the very same "New Day" with nothing to show. And he is certainly blind to (or unwilling to acknowledge) the remarkable and much needed change for the better in Wicomico County government during Bob Culver's first year as the County Executive.
Surely, as Wicomico County (with the exception of Salisbury) continues to improve and recover from years of Democrat rule, Hawkins will continue to publish his BS in a forum that thrives by selling such drivel to the low information voters.

Jack Markell :Why my state won't turn refugees away
We know that those who forget their history are doomed to repeat it. Yet that sentiment has been lost in the politicized attempts to fight President Barack Obama's push to accept more Syrian refugees. Our state and national leaders would do well to remember a tragic incident from our past in which people fleeing from danger in their country were denied a compassionate response by ours.
In May, 1939, a few months before the German invasion of Poland and the start of World War II, nearly 1,000 German Jews approached South Florida aboard a ship called St. Louis. They had been denied entry to Cuba and hoped to receive sympathy from American leaders who knew of the severe discrimination they faced at home.
Instead, our government enforced the strict quotas in place at the time. Forced to return home, more than 500 were trapped by Germany's European conquests and about half of those died in the Holocaust.

Syrian Refugees Already in Baltimore
After fleeing Syria, they must first spend time in refugee camps usually run by the United Nations and then must apply to come to the U.S. according to Ruben Chandrasekar, director of the Baltimore chapter of the International Rescue Center.
He said then the vetting process will then begin.
"That can last anywhere from 18 months to 3 years per applicant," he said.
Chandrasekar said the IRC has settled 30 families from Syria in Baltimore.

Retired City Police Officer Found Not Guilty Of Killing Dog
A Baltimore City judge has found a retired city police officer not guilty of animal cruelty, and all other charges in connection with the death of a dog in June of last year.
The verdict was handed down this morning in the case of retired Baltimore City Police Officer Jeffery Bolger.
He was accused of slitting the throat of a shar-pei named Nala, after the dog bit a pregnant woman.
The defense argued the officer acted in self defense, but prosecutors say the officer had no reason for his actions because it was already contained.

Dad Tells Cops They Need a Warrant to Search His Home, so They Kick in His Door & Kill Him
Spring Lake, NC — Three children lost their father Sunday after deputies with the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office, looking for a different man, shot and killed him.
John Livingston, 33, was shot and killed in the early morning hours of Sunday as police were conducting an assault investigation. Police were not looking for Livingston, and the entire situation could have been avoided had they come back with a warrant like Livingston requested.
Livingston’s roommate, Clayton Carroll told WNCN that he was shot multiple times during the altercation with officers who had no right to be there in the first place.
According to Carroll, deputies began knocking on the door around 3:30 am as they were looking for someone who no longer lived in the home. When Deputies asked Livingston if they could search his home, Livingston said “not without a search warrant,” according to Carroll.
Livingston then shut the door.
Having a man assert his fourth amendment right to be secure in his property was apparently too much for the deputy to handle.
“The cop kicked in the door, got on top of him, started slinging him around beat him…” Carroll said.

Another Business Succumbs to Salisbury
In these four years we have met so many caring, wonderful individuals, couples and families—including pets. We have made so many friends. There have been weddings, wedding receptions, bridal showers, birthdays, tea parties, graduation celebrations, Bar and Bat Mitzvahs. Our goal has been to provide a place that was an extension of our home - a place where strangers could become friends and feel welcome. We set high standards for everything we prepared, always putting quality first.
During this time, there have been many changes in our family.
Rachel and Rebekah are both in nursing school; Danielle and Eliana are in high school; Erin is a PA and Alex is a Pharmacist; Penny is a Clinical Instructor of Nursing and Kevin has a growing business that he owns and operates. It became obvious that we could no longer invest the time needed to maintain our goals.

It became obvious that we could no longer invest the time needed to maintain our goals.
After many hours of family discussions and reluctance to let go of what has been such an important part of our lives, we have decided it is time to move forward and close the Coffeehouse. The last day we will be open is November 29th. We would like to take this time to thank our amazing staff and wish them the very best.
Thank you Salisbury for being supportive and we will miss being a part of the Coffeehouse Community!

What Free Speech? Judge Bans the Words ‘Black Lives Matter’ from Clothing in Court
The idea that three words written on clothing could disrupt a courtroom is patently absurd.
Worcester, MA – Four Black Lives Matter (BLM) protestors, charged with disturbing the peace, had their trial date postponed until January 2016. However, the real story that came out of the hearing was the fact that Central District Court Judge Robert Pellegrini ruled that the protesters are banned from wearing clothing with the words “Black Lives Matter” on them in his courtroom.

Cardin Statement on Syrian Refugees Coming to the United States
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.), Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, issued the following statement on the various statements from primarily Republican governors attempting to stop Syrian refugees from entering their states.
“As elected officials, the safety of all Americans is our highest priority. The United States should be doing everything in our power to know who we allow into this country – refugees, business people or tourists. I wish that prior to making public statements that run contrary to federal and state authority, governors who are trying to shut the doors to their states from refugees including Maryland’s governor, would have reached out to federal officials for details on the stringent security screenings required for refugee resettlement anywhere in the United States. I take very strongly the responsibility to make sure these security screenings prevent terrorists from entering our country.”

The Best Way to Prevent Drunk Driving? That's Debatable.
Advocates and states disagree over the effectiveness of ignition interlocks, which are basically car breathalyzers, versus 24/7 sobriety. Congress, though, will soon weigh in.
In the fight against drunk driving, states are splitting into two groups. They disagree over the best way to discourage convicted drunk drivers from driving drunk again and, in the process, are raising questions about the effectiveness of ignition interlocks. Now, after years of state lawmakers choosing sides, Congress will get involved too.
The disagreements come a decade after all states adopted laws making it a crime to drive with a blood alcohol content of .08 or higher. Since then, the number of U.S. deaths in alcohol-related crashes has declined from about 13,000 a year to about 10,000 a year. But the numbers haven’t changed much since 2010, so advocates have pushed states to take further measures to try to decrease the death toll.
Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) champions laws that require all people convicted of drunk driving to install ignition interlock devices in their vehicles. The devices prevent the cars or trucks from starting unless the driver breathes into the machine and proves the person is not under the influence of alcohol. So far 25 states have passed that type of law in the last decade.

ACLU Upset With Governor Hogans Decision On Refugees
Statement of the ACLU on Governor Hogan's Request to Federal Government to Not Send Syrian Refugees to Maryland
The following can be attributed to Sirine Shebaya, attorney directing the ACLU of Maryland's immigrant's rights advocacy:
"The ACLU of Maryland is deeply saddened by Governor Larry Hogan's request that the federal government not allow any more Syrian refugees to come to Maryland, a decision that goes against our common humanity. To shut the door in the face of those who are the most severely harmed by the very actions we so loudly condemn in Paris is to say that some lives - those of the Syrian refugees and their children - do not matter and are expendable.
Maryland did not hear calls to ban Irish immigrants when the Irish Republican Army (IRA) was active, or calls to ban people from Spain when Euskadi Ta Askatasuna (ETA) was active. The current calls have nothing to do with safety, and everything to do with our inability to see Syrian refugees as fellow humans doing the same thing people have done since time immemorial - flee war, death, and destruction. To shut out Syrian families trying to rescue their children from persecution and in some cases starvation, is to refuse to help the victims of the very terrorism we decry.

Teens allegedly kill woman at car wash, take body on joyride
Two Missouri teenagers fatally stabbed a woman while she was vacuuming her car and then went on a gruesome joyride with her dead body propped up in the front seat, according to reports.
The two boys, 13 and 14, allegedly stabbed 43-year-old Tanya Chamberlain in the face, neck, chest and hands on Nov. 1 as she visited a local car wash and vacuumed her vehicle, according to documents obtained by KCTV5.
Surveillance video shows the eighth-graders exiting Quick Clean Car Wash wearing distinct hoodies that would later help police identify them as suspects.
The Nov. 1 time change for daylight saving time screwed up the nearby video footage, which shows the boys getting in the vehicle with Chamberlain in the front seat at around 1:57 a.m. — 40 minutes after Chamberlain is seen on camera vacuuming her car, according to the court documents.
A few minutes later the video boots back up and the car is gone, KCTV5 reported.
The documents state that the teens then took off in the vehicle with Chamberlain's dead body propped up in the front seat with her feet on the dashboard.

State employees request more pay, hold rallies across Maryland
HYATTSVILLE — A labor union for Maryland public employees held rallies across the state Thursday to place pressure on Gov. Larry Hogan’s administration for a pay raise and more money to fill vacant jobs under their current contract negotiations.
The Maryland council of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees is asking for “fair pay, fair treatment” at work, and resources to help provide public services, according to Jeff Pittman, a union spokesman.
The union began contract negotiations at the beginning of October, union officials said. Thursday, it coordinated rallies in Baltimore, Cumberland, Hagerstown, Hyattsville and Salisbury. A larger rally is planned for Dec. 10 in Baltimore.

Weapons Missing Following Overnight Break-In At Army Reserve Armory In Worcester Massachusetts
WORCESTER (CBS) — The FBI is investigating an overnight break-in at an U.S. Army Reserve armory in Worcester where weapons were apparently taken.
“Nothing at this point in time would tie this to any specific threat or anything else at this point,” Hank Shaw, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Boston division said at a press conference on Sunday.
The missing weapons were entered into a national database, and federal, state, and local law enforcement have been alerted, according to the agency.

O'Malley got the counter-punch from Donald Trump he was spoiling for
Martin O'Malley was hoping Donald Trump would begin attacking him, and after a shot at the real estate mogul, he got exactly what he wanted.
That tweet came after O'Malley referred to Trump as "that immigrant-bashing carnival barker, Donald Trump."
Hillary Clinton also took a swipe at Trump, repeating a line she's been using to criticize Bernie Sanders' call for universal free college tuition: "I don't think taxpayers should be paying to send Donald Trump's kids to college."
