County Executive Announces To Council His Plan To Bring On Attorney Paul Wilber As Acting County Attorney
Today, during an open work session of the Wicomico County Council a 3 year analysis of the actual legal expenses by vendors paid through the finance office of Wicomico County was presented by County Executive Bob Culver. The actual cost of legal expenses for the county are the numbers below presented today with documentation for such.
The increased cost in the 3 year analysis was $172,657.26 or a 40% increase. Executive Culver believes that contracting out the law work rather than continuing the Law Department in house can achieve a sizable savings.
Several months ago, an advertisement was placed by Wicomico County seeking a county attorney. After reviewing the applications and quotes and considering the savings, today Executive Culver presented his plan to the council and announced Paul Wilber as Acting County Attorney.
Mr. Wilber, a native of Wicomico County, has tremendous experience having practiced law for 40 years in Salisbury with the same firm, Webb, Burnett, Cornbrooks, Wilber, Vorhis, Douse, & Mason LLP. He has years of concentration with government law including serving as the attorney for Pittsville 1983-present, Sharptown 1989-present, Salisbury 1998-2011, Princess Anne 2011-2015 and outside counsel for Secretary and Pocomoke City along with Somerset County. It is great for Wicomico County to welcome someone with these years of government practice.
2013 $429,176.74
2014 $484,699.99
2015 $601,834.00

WBOE Holding Closed Door Meetings On Redistricting Pittsville & Willards Students
It has come to my attention that the Wicomico board of education has been having closed door meetings again on redistricting. They will be leaving Delmar alone this time. They will be forcing all Pittsville / Willards students to WiHi that way those parents can't say don't split our kids up. This is Dr. Fredrickson's parting gift to us and we get no say whatsoever. Please get this word out before he sticks it to us once again.
County Councilman Marc Kilmer Completely Out Of Line On Social Media
Councilman Marc Kilmer made the above comment recently and in my opinion he is completely out of line.
Now I like Marc but when you are an elected official you are, (and should be) held to a higher standard.
Nevertheless, I'd like to hear your opinion on this matter.

BLACK ACTIVISTS CALL FOR LYNCHING AND HANGING OF WHITE PEOPLE AND COPS
Members of the #FYF911 or #FukYoFlag and #BlackLivesMatter movements called for the lynching and hanging of white people and cops. They encouraged others on a radio show Tuesday night to “turn the tide” and kill white people and cops to send a message about the killing of black people in America.
One of the F***YoFlag organizers is called “Sunshine.” She has a radio blog show hosted from Texas called, “Sunshine’s F***ing Opinion Radio Show.”

Obama invites suspended Muslim teen to the White House
Instead of making a traditional phone call, Obama took to his personal Twitter account to invite Ahmed Mohamed, 14, of Irving, Texas, to show off the device at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
“Cool clock, Ahmed. Want to bring it to the White House? We should inspire more kids like you to like science. It's what makes America great,” the president tweeted.
Obama’s invitation placed him in the middle of a story that captured national attention and sparked a conversation about racial and ethnic profiling.
Mohamed, who is Muslim, was arrested by Irving police on Monday and suspended from MacArthur High School after teachers mistook his clock for a bomb.

A Viewer Writes: Shopping Carts In Salisbury
JOE - Something I see often in our Presidents Neighborhood area are store shopping carts, I am sure their purchase is not cheap. People it seems around here think that they are in the stores for their taking, to take items to their homes and just dump them all over. I have known neighbors around here in the past that have done this their is currently a Dollar Store one at the corner of Washington & Jackson that has been there for 2 days incase the store is interested. Is there something that can be done about the returning of these, either by the stores when notified, and perhaps when the police see them being used have a fine for those thieves, it could generate $ for the police dept and remove one more blight item one at a time.
Doritos Shows Support For LGBT Teens With Limited-Run Rainbow Tortilla Chips
Some of America’s biggest companies have publicly shown support of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community with Facebook, Twitter and Instagram posts. Today, one snack company took its commitment to another level: creating a limited-edition bag of rainbow-colored Doritos.
Frito-Lay, which produces Doritos, said the new ‘Doritos Rainbows’ chips are the company’s way of celebrating and showing support for the LGBT community as part of its partnership with the It Gets Better Project, an organization started to encourage gay and lesbian teenagers who’ve been bullied.
“Time and again, our consumers have shown us, there really is nothing bolder than being true to yourself and living life to the fullest,” Ram Krishnan, chief marketing officer, Frito-Lay, said in a statement. “With Doritos Rainbows chips, we’re bringing an entirely new product experience to our consumers to show our commitment toward equal rights for the LGBT community and celebrate humanity without exception.”

Virginia high school students suspended for wearing Confederate flag apparel
More than 20 students were suspended at a Virginia high school on Thursday for wearing clothing emblazoned with the Confederate battle flag, according to school officials, students and parents.
The students, who attend Christiansburg High School in southwestern Virginia, were accused of violating the school’s dress code by wearing clothes with Confederate regalia, according to the Associated Press. The dress code specifically bars students from wearing any clothing that could “reflect adversely on persons due to race” and specifies that “clothing with Confederate flag symbols” falls in that category.
Civil War symbols that relate to the Confederacy have come under renewed scrutiny in recent months after a white man went on a shooting rampage at a historically black Methodist church in Charleston, S.C. in June. Dylan Roof, 21, posed in photographs waving the Confederate flag.

Sprinklers' impact on housing costs
CHESTERTOWN — Sprinklers are generally recognized as an effective way to reduce the danger of house fires. But are they killing the housing market?
At a Kent County Commissioners’ meeting last month, discussion turned to the importance of affordable housing in attracting new business and young families to the county.
Commission President William Pickrum said a key to creating affordable housing would be elimination of the requirement for residential sprinkler systems. He said they can add as much as $40,000 to the cost of a new house.
Commissioner Bill Short said the requirement had radically reduced housing starts in other Eastern Shore jurisdictions.
Both commissioners were echoing a common theme at the Maryland Association of Counties meeting earlier that month. Officials from several counties criticized a requirement of the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development to install automatic fire sprinklers in new townhouses and one- and two-family dwellings, as provided by the 2015 International Residential Code. The requirement went into effect July 1.

Support for Higher Teacher Pay Drops When People Hear What Teachers Earn
(CNSNews) – Americans consistently underestimate how much is spent annually to educate children in the nation’s public schools, including how much teachers are being paid.
But when they are told the actual amount, the percentage of the public that supports increasing teacher salaries drops from about two-thirds (63 percent) to less than half (45 percent), according the ninth annual Education Next poll.
“When the public is informed of teacher salaries, support for increasing salaries declines,” the EdNext poll found. “Support drops even further when the public is reminded that an increase would be funded by tax dollars.”
The poll was conducted in May and June by Professors Paul Peterson and Martin West of the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
“People estimate that their local school districts spent $6,307 per child when we know from U.S. Department of Education statistics that it’s actually twice that” – or an average of $12,440 per child, Peterson told CNSNews.

Facebook photo shared by Chesapeake official sparks controversy
CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – The chairwoman of the Chesapeake school board is defending a Facebook picture she shared a month ago. Some in the Muslim community call it racist.
The post by School Board Chair Christie New Craig shows a skull with knives and a cartoon woman stating “Muslims hate pork, beer, dogs, bikinis, Jesus, and freedom of speech. My question is, what the hell do they come to America for?!”
“I merely shared it. I did not make a comment, and I’m just shocked with everything going on in our country – police officers are losing their lives, people are homeless and people don’t have jobs – that a political cartoon would cause this much stir,” Craig said.
Although she didn’t make herself available for an on camera interview, Craig did agree to a phone interview with 10 On Your Side’s Brandi Cummings Wednesday.

Los Angeles unveils puny BMW electric police car
LOS ANGELES -- The sight of a puny, electric-powered BMW police car with flashing red lights isn't exactly going to instill fear in the hearts of this city's criminals.
But on Friday, the Los Angeles Police Department showed off the newest member of its fleet, a black-and-white BMW i3, a diminutive electric car meant for tooling around downtowns, not necessarily for a televised high-speed freeway chase.
BMW is loaning the not-so-intimidating police cruiser to the force for a year as part of Mayor Eric Garcetti's desire to get more electric or plug-in cars into the city's fleet.
"Today, we take another step toward becoming the most sustainable city in America," said Garcetti in prepared remarks. "This year, Los Angeles will become home to the largest city-owned fleet of pure battery electric vehicles anywhere in the country, and we will save taxpayer dollars along the way."

KIM DAVIS WILL SUE KENTUCKY GOVERNOR
Lawyers for Rowan County, Kentucky, Clerk Kim Davis have filed a petition with the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to stop a district judge’s demand that she and her office issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
Her legal team with the non-profit Liberty Counsel also will file a lawsuit against Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear, accusing him of failing to accommodate her Christian faith.
Liberty Counsel said Monday the appeals court has ordered an expedited process for at least one part of Davis’ case with District Judge David Bunning. He was the judge who ordered Davis to resume issuing marriage licenses and sent her to jail for refusing to comply. Later, Bunning expanded his order to cover any same-sex couple seeking a marriage license.

Pastor Accused Of Attempting To Incite Riot Shares His Side Of The Story
BALTIMORE (WJZ) — The Baltimore pastor accused of attempting to incite a riot spoke out Monday with his attorney at his side. They’re accusing police of arresting the pastor simply to stop protests and keep him silent. WJZ was first to break the story.
Derek Valcourt has more on the arrest and the fallout.
West and his attorney say he was arrested on bogus, trumped up charges. That’s not how police see it.
Police say the video speaks for itself. Taken by police helicopter, they claim it shows Reverend Westley West stopping traffic in the middle of Pratt Street and slamming his megaphone into the hood of a red pickup truck during Freddie Gray protests at a court hearing on September 2.

Rehoboth Beach man declares war on sidewalk cyclists
Wayne Hodge says it's a fight for survival on the sidewalks of Rehoboth Beach.
He's declared war on bicyclists who choose to ride on sidewalks, especially in the area around the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal bridge. He's mad as hell and not taking it anymore.
In an Aug. 21 letter to the Cape Gazette, Hodge warns cyclists: “Let this be a warning to all bike riders on the sidewalk, I will no longer jump out of your way. From now on, you either get off your bike and walk it on the sidewalk and across the bridge, or you hit me. And if it comes to the point you are going to hit me, be forewarned I will knock you into traffic before I allow you to injure me or my dog.”
Since he wrote the letter, he's already had several confrontations with cyclists who were forced to stop because he would not jump out of their way. “I engage in a conversation telling them what they are doing wrong and usually end up getting cursed,” he said.

September 19th is "Thank A Police Officer Day"
We want to show our support and appreciation for law enforcement officers everywhere! This is a nationwide event encouraging you acknowledge them, tell us where you are from and share your favorite LEO or department with us.
September 19th is "Thank A Police Officer Day" and we want them to know WE CARE. Here in our local Delmarva area we are working on cards and other surprises :) What will you be doing ? Here are some ideas ~
• tell a LEO they are appreciated!
• go blue with a ribbon of support in your front yard
• write cards with messages of support
• share your favorite local department here
• buy a coffee or a meal for an officer
• have your kids write a letter saying thank you
• host a card-making event with friends or coworkers
• deliver a tray of goodies from a local bakery
• give a shout-out of appreciation on the radio
Note: it is probably best to call ahead to any locations you will be visiting on either Friday 9/18 or the morning of Saturday 9/19. Not all departments have regular staffed offices.
Some agencies have advised that they are leery of eating homemade gifts for safety reasons so prepackaged foods or items from restaurants and bakeries is likely the best option.
This began in our local area, thus the wording "Delmarva Supports Law Enforcement"....and then it grew from there. We encourage EVERYONE in all locations to participate in this effort to thank those who serve.

Davis: City Will Eventually Put Riots "In Rear View Mirror"
Baltimore's Interim Police Commissioner says at some point the city has to get the riots of late April and early May, "in their rear view mirror, and move forward."
Kevin Davis called into the Jimmy Mathis Show Sunday on WBAL.
Davis said that he remains committed to restoring the publics trust in the police department and supporting his officers, who face greater scrutiny in the wake of the April death of Freddie Gray.
Davis says his priority is "leading the rank and file of this agency, and letting them be the police officers the city needs them to be."

Race For Mayor About To Get More Crowded; Pastor May Enter Race
The race for mayor of Baltimore could be getting more crowded, now that incumbent Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake has announced plans not to run for re-election.
WBAL NewsRadio 1090 has learned that Pastor Jamal Bryant, pastor of the Empowerment Temple of Baltimore, is due to hold a news conference Monday morning at the Freddie Gray Empowerment Center.
The news conference is being held that Bryant is going to run for mayor, or another office next year.
Bryant was highly visible during the April riots, and his congregation led an effort to build a community center in West Baltimore named after Gray.
In late May, Bryant led a protest that shut down exit ramps on I-395, and I-95 into the city, to protest plans by the state to build a new juvenile detention facility.

Save Naylor Mill Forest
There is a vote that will be held SOON on transferring land ownership from the city to the county, to turn an old forest which sits over our towns water supply, in to ball fields. There is a chance that enough people express concerns city council members will reevaluate their current decisions. Joan Maloof explains," The “paleochannel” noted in headlines is an underground aquifer that provides most of the water to the city of Salisbury. Our homes, our hospital, our university and our businesses all depend on this precious resource. Today that aquifer is in good condition, with almost no contamination — but there is no guarantee it will stay that way. The soil above the aquifer is very porous, and what we do to the land will eventually filter down to the water. Even though clearing the forest and putting in a ball field meets all legal requirements, that does not mean it is the right thing to do. There are many other cleared areas nearby that can be used for fields. Do not remove one of our last remaining ancient native forests. Remember, (council members) you are representing ALL citizens in this decision."

BALTIMORE SHOULD BE ASHAMED
Baltimore has just rewarded the family of Fredie Gray 6.4 million dollars for raising a scumbag son. Gray had a criminal record, on drug charges and minor crimes. Gray had been involved in 20 criminal court cases, five of which were still active at the time of his death, and was due in court on a possession charge on April 24. In February 2009, he was sentenced to four years in prison for two counts of drug possession with intent to deliver and was paroled in 2011. In 2012, he was arrested for violating parole but was not sent back to prison. In 2013, he returned to jail for a month before being released again.
Gray had a lengthy arrest record with convictions dating back until at least 2007, according to the Maryland Department of Justice. Not all of the arrests led to convictions, in many of the cases he pleaded guilty to one charge while the others were dropped. Details of when he spent time in prison are not immediately available. His arrest record includes at least 18 arrests….his 2015 record is especially telling of what a great individual he was.

NYPD Union Prez Patrick Lynch: Only Police Are Qualified To Judge The Actions Of Police
Citizens increasingly removed from decision making
As you’ve probably already heard, last week former tennis star James Blake was blitzed by an NYPD plain clothes officer in front of his hotel, tackled to the ground, and left cuffed there bruised and cut.
The officer in question thought he was brutalizing someone who had committed credit card fraud. In itself, this would be quite a problem, as credit card fraud isn’t the kind of crime that typically results in an NYPD beatdown. Except that James Blake is black. He’s also, as it turns out, not even the suspect this officer was supposed to be looking for. He just happened to fit the description. The NYPD has since apologized to him, an apology that one would hope was met with narrowed eyes and a defiant chin.
But you’ll never guess who isn’t apologizing. Actually, you probably will, because it’s NYPD Patrolemen’s Benevolent (hah!) Association President Patrick Lynch, who penned a letter to the media covering the story. Let’s just see how much we can get through this before we stop pretending like we’re dealing with a sane person, shall we?
