A major winter storm will unfold across the Northeast early this week, eventually becoming an all-out blizzard over parts of New England and the New York City area.
Those in the Northeast should prepare for the storm now rather than wait until the snow starts to fall, especially those across eastern New England.
"While the storm from Saturday may have been a mere nuisance to travelers and a delight to skiers, the storm Monday night into Tuesday could be far more disruptive in terms of travel and daily activities," said AccuWeather.com Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski.
The greatest impacts are expected along the Interstate-95 corridor from Philadelphia northward where over a foot of snow is forecast to fall. The blizzard also threatens to bring the heavily populated zone from New York City to Boston to Portland, Maine, to a standstill.

Troopers Urge Driving Safety During Forecasted Winter Weather
Dover - Weather forecasts currently indicate a major winter storm that will impact the region starting tomorrow night into Tuesday. Heavy snowfall including a wintry mix, are threats with this storm. This type of weather pattern can create treacherous conditions for motorists who are traveling along Delaware roadways.
Troopers statewide continue to plan and prepare for the forecasted winter storm, as they will be ready and available to patrol, assist disabled vehicles, and manage roadway incidents and hazards for the duration of the event. Most calls for service received by Troopers during winter storms are for vehicle crashes, disabled vehicles, and abandoned vehicles which cause a major problem for DelDOT snow removal equipment and for Troopers responding to emergency situations. Troopers strongly encourage motorists to postpone and avoid unnecessary travel.
Troopers urge all motorists who must travel to use extreme caution as weather conditions may change rapidly over the course of the event. Motorists should be prepared for snow covered and slippery roads, along with strong winds and limited visibilities which make driving conditions difficult. Use caution while driving when approaching intersections and off ramps, especially bridges and overpasses. Remember to reduce speed and increase following distance between vehicles. Allow ample time to reach your destination, allow extra space between vehicles, and keep vehicle headlights on to increase visibility.
This would be an excellent time to check your vehicle ensuring it is in good working order for the expected conditions. Fill up the fuel tank in advance. Check the windshield wipers, windshield wiper fluid, tire tread, battery life, etc. If you should have vehicle problems, be sure to stay with your vehicle, as freezing temperatures can be life-threatening. Be sure to have an emergency kit in the vehicle consisting of a blanket, bottled water, snack, cell phone charger, and flashlight. Use caution and be safe during the storm.

Terence Arrington Resigns As Assistant City Administrator for City of Salisbury
A bit under the radar, Terence was recognized as a very intelligent man who was well respected by many. I say many because as you might guess, the Mayor, (as usual with African Americans and women) just couldn't see eye to eye with him. Hence Terence putting in his resignation as he quickly accepted another job as a City Administrator in North Carolina on Dec. 22nd, 2014. Terence didn't even last a full year with the City.
UPDATE: My mistake. Terence went to South Carolina, not North Carolina.

Why Salisbury Maryland Has Evolved Into A Crime Infested Community
Last week Salisbury News broke the story about Labinol packing up their business in Salisbury, (like so many other major companies in the past) and relocating to another state. As you might expect, many have asked me why and what can be done about it.
In order to explain what's going on we need to go back in history, something NO ONE else has ever done.
I can clearly remember having a one on one conversation with Sheriff Mike Lewis when he was first elected. I shared something with Mike he not only didn't know, he actually didn't believe me when I told him. I can tell you the very same thing happened when I held the exact same conversation with Chief Barbara Duncan when she was first hired.

Because I Think Out Of The Box, How About A Microbrewery/Liquor Distillery Mall?
Ever since I heard of Labinal packing their things and leaving Salisbury I thought, what in the heck can we do with that facility.
Considering there are so many vacant manufacturing facilities in Salisbury and Wicomico County, I had to think out of the box. Clearly the fact that so many of these buildings have remained empty for so many years, what the very people involved in working together to figure out what THEY want to do with this facility, I wanted to prove I had better ideas.
When I ran for Mayor I told everyone my economic development platform, most of which were "out of the box" thinking. Creative ideas that specialized attention towards what we actually have here on the Eastern Shore.
So, how about a Mall right next to the Civic Center. The idea would be to design this facility for MULTIPLE Microbreweries and Distilleries. In the front of the building would be a Bar/Restaurant that only sells the liquor manufactured at that location. Each business can divide the overhead costs and or profits from the Bar/Restaurant to help subsidize their overhead.
Now, the building would be carefully designed for small companies, a start up, as you will. The idea would be to create a START UP location for enthusiasts with a dream of owning their own business. Once their product takes off, the County would have a list of other larger facilities these businesses could expand to. GOOD MONEY AFTER GOOD MONEY!
You see, I was thinking, what's the new upcoming Industry. Clearly Microbreweries and Distilleries are it as they are popping up everywhere. The one thing I had noticed about these business owners is that they don't feel like other Breweries are competition. They are getting into it because they love the art and craft of it. So why not create an environment where everyone works together and has each others back.
It's never been thought of and quite frankly it would very quickly become a "DESTINATION LOCATION" as I head preached in my campaign. It would easily become a tourist site.
Anyhow, I'd love to hear your thoughts on this idea. And don't come on here attacking me, unless YOU want to provide a better idea.

UPDATE: Commissioners Vote 4-3 To Help Fund Proposed Arena Study
SNOW HILL — While the project is merely conceptual at this point, Worcester County officials this week agreed to fund in part the further study of a potential 6,200-seat multi-purpose arena.
Worcester County Economic Development Director Bill Badger on Tuesday presented the County Commissioners with a proposal from Texas-based Hat Trick Consultants about the possibility of developing a multi-purpose sports arena that could be home to a minor league hockey team and would host, for example, regional high school and college sports events, boxing matches, conventions, concerts, graduations and other events. Hat Trick has already conducted its own feasibility study for the proposed arena in Worcester with favorable results, and the next step in what would likely be a lengthy process would be a similar study conducted by the Maryland Stadium Authority (MSA), which would be the state partner in the private-public partnership.
The MSA study would validate Hat Trick’s own study and would also review the impact of the project on surrounding MSA investments, including the Roland E. Powell Convention Center’s new Performing Arts Center, which just opened, and the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center, for example. Badger on Tuesday urged the commissioners to fund Worcester’s portion of the MSA study, and after considerable debate, the commissioners agreed to pony up its $12,000 portion.
The breakdown for the MSA study, estimated in a range of $15,000 to $20,000, would be 60 percent for the county and 40 percent for the state, although Hat Trick has agreed to contribute $5,000 toward the additional MSA study.

"Mr. Wilk will reach out to stakeholders—including SWED"
For what it's worth, what does it tell you about Ireton's confidence in Dave Ryan from SWED. You know, the guy who is supposed to be doing exactly what the City is now paying a consultant to do.
I have been shouting from the top of the mountain for years on Salisbury News, Salisbury and Wicomico County need new Economic Development Leadership.
I've got a Brewery / Distillery Master Plan if the City would like to hire me as a consultant?
City Retains Consultant to Further Ongoing Labinal Dialog
Salisbury - Mayor James Ireton, Jr. today announced that the City has retained the services of consultant David Wilk of Sperry Van Ness to help further the ongoing dialog with Labinal/Safran. To that end, Mr. Wilk will meet with Labinal’s executive and real estate teams to better understand their goals and objectives, and to determine if there is any way to either entice Labinal to stay in Salisbury, or to gain their buy-in on an exit strategy that is most beneficial to employees and taxpayers.
Key to the discussion will be the consideration of several new development concepts which would “place-make” the former Salisbury Mall property, Labinal property, and the surrounding neighborhood into a “community of innovation”, regardless of Labinal’s ultimate decision. Mr. Wilk will reach out to stakeholders—including SWED, PRMC, Salisbury University, and local neighborhood associations, among others—to seek participation and input in developing strategies which would energize the Labinal and surrounding properties in the future.
“The city is employing a 3-option approach to the cards dealt,” said Mayor Ireton. “A.) Continue to work to reverse the Labinal/Safran decision to move to Texas; B.) Some Labinal/Safran employees stay in Salisbury and work towards reducing the effects of the economic loss; C.) The entire plant closes and we work to rebrand, refurbish, and revitalize the facility for a new employer.
“With these options, the area as a whole will need to be reconsidered. Utilizing Mr. Wilk, as we have done in the negotiations on Parking Lot #1 Downtown, I realize what an asset he is to the conversation of what to do at the East Salisbury plant. Mr. Wilk will be at the table with city leaders to work with all stakeholders on long-term, sustainable options for the city and surrounding community.”
* Mr. Wilk is National Director of Corporate Real Estate and Advisory Services for Sperry Van Ness and Corporate Valuation Advisors (“CVA”). Mr. Wilk has been involved in similar consulting projects on plant closures in Florida, North Carolina, Delaware, Ohio, Colorado, New Mexico, Georgia, South Carolina, Virginia, Louisiana, Texas, Illinois, Indiana, Pennsylvania, and Maryland since 2008. Mr. Wilk’s local clients include SBY Airport and Wicomico County, Town of Princess Anne, City of Salisbury, Salisbury Mall Associates, Wallops Research Park,
and Johnny Janosik.

CBF: Sad Day for Maryland
(ANNAPOLIS, MD) — Alison Prost, Maryland Executive Director of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF), issued this statement following Governor Hogan's withdrawal Wednesday of the Phosphorus Management Tool and nitrate oxide reduction regulations:
"This is a sad day in the long fight to make Maryland waters clean enough for swimming and fishing. Governor Hogan's decision has hurt the rivers and streams on Maryland's Eastern Shore where 228,000 tons of excess manure will continue to be applied to farm fields each year, and to wash off into nearby creeks and river. The new governor rolled back 10 years of progress when he withdrew the Phosphorus Management Tool, a common sense, science-based solution to the manure crisis.
"Agriculture is the largest source of pollution to the Chesapeake Bay, and is also the cheapest to reduce by far. Many farmers deserve credit for their efforts to stem pollution from their barn yards and fields. But just as those who live in our cities and suburbs are doing more to clean the Bay, so must farmers.
"Businesses with technologies to help reduce phosphorus pollution from poultry manure are ready to come to Maryland and help ease the burden of excess manure. But these technologies will only have a significant impact if farmers are required to not apply excessive amounts of phosphorus to their crops. Regulations create demand for problem-solving technologies that otherwise would languish.
"Additionally, by withdrawing regulations that would have reduced pollution from coal-fired power plants, Governor Hogan's decision also has put corporate interests above the people of Greater Baltimore. Nitrous oxides are linked to ozone which can be harmful to children and sensitive adults. As a greenhouse gas, nitrous oxides are 300 times more powerful than carbon dioxide. Also, nitrogen from coal plants and vehicles adds millions of pounds of harmful pollution to the Bay each year. The power industry used the same hardship argument in 2006 when the legislature approved the Maryland Healthy Air Act. In the years afterwards, electricity prices dropped, and the industry prospered.
"The Chesapeake Bay Foundation welcomes the opportunity to work with the Administration to ensure farmers have the resources they need to implement the PMT, and all residents see cleaner water. But we can't compromise on science, or accept further delays on cleaning up Maryland's rivers, streams, and the Chesapeake Bay."
US House votes to bar federal funds for abortion coverage
As thousands of abortion foes surged through the city on their annual protest march to the Supreme Court, Republicans muscled legislation through the House on Thursday tightening federal restrictions on abortions. The vote came after internal divisions forced them into an embarrassing fumble of a similar bill.
Even as a White House veto threat all but ensured the bill would never become law, the House voted by a near party-line 242-179 to permanently bar federal funds for any abortion coverage. The measure would also block tax credits for many people and businesses buying abortion coverage under President Barack Obama's health care law.
GOP leaders pushed the measure to the House floor hours after abruptly abandoning another bill banning most late-term abortions because a rebellion led by female Republican lawmakers left them short of votes.

Greg Bassett, Back To His Old Daily Times Ways/Lies
How do you tell LIES in a Newspaper and get away with it? Well, you do just like Greg Bassett has mastered and you get people to write their own articles or press releases and then publish it, even though you KNOW they are lying.
This is exactly the case, (once again) in this weeks weekly rag. I told you people this guy was the saving grace of the old "Dream Team" that DESTROYED Salisbury. His paper IS specifically designed to pump up selected people, (Dream Team) and destroy other select people.
He'll publish ANYTHING that makes Democrats look good and tarnish Republicans every chance he gets.
Greg, I called you a week ago and left a message. I tried giving you the heads up but stupid me, I should have known you didn't want to know the TRUTH. No, you don't answer the phone and or return phone messages because you know you were about to publish more lies.
Let me explain this to you ONE MORE TIME. Tamara Brooks was NOT fired by Bob Culver, as your paper once again states. You stated that she was terminated the morning Culver took Office. Not true and you know it. She was terminated at 7:00 PM the night BEFORE Culver was sworn in.
Bassett takes a ton of pot shots at the new County Executive in a few different articles, hiding behind his selected authors. He's not a man, he's a coward.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Barack Obama will visit Selma, Alabama, in March to recognize the 50th anniversary of historic marches led by activists fighting against segregation and seeking to ensure African Americans' right to vote, a White House official said on Tuesday.
Obama will visit the small southern town on March 7 as part of his administration's efforts to highlight the Voting Rights Act of 1965, the official said.
The law, signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson 50 years ago this August, banned literacy tests and other tactics used in the U.S. South to block racial minorities from voting. The White House official said more details of Obama's trip would be announced later.

Man cited in Georgia for eating cheeseburger while driving
MARIETTA, Ga. – A man says he was cited by police outside Atlanta for eating a cheeseburger while driving.
Madison Turner, who's from Alabama, tells Atlanta station WSB-TV he ordered a double quarter-pounder with cheese from a McDonald's in the Marietta area shortly before he was pulled over last week.
Turner says the officer told him he saw him eating the cheeseburger for two miles, telling the man "You can't just go down the road eating a hamburger."
The ticket, issued under Georgia's distracted driving law, states in the comments section that the offense is "eating while driving."
Turner is to appear in court Feb. 3.
"For most of us, I think we can safely eat a burger and drive our car at the same time," Turner told MyFoxAtlanta.com.

THE OSCARS ARE RACIST?
YES … AND IT’S AN “EMERGENCY”
We wrote a column this week addressing the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in which we opined that “the civil rights movement in America ain’t what it used to be.”
Little did we know how perfectly one of the contemporary movement’s “leaders” would validate our conclusion. We’re referring of course to Al Sharpton, the black leader who among other ludicrous suppositions believes racism is to blame for his inability to pay his taxes.
Anyway, in his latest attempt to foment misplaced outrage Sharpton has turned his attention to Hollywood.
Specifically, the not-so-good “Reverend” is livid that the Oprah Winfrey movie “Selma” – a biopic of the life and times of King – did not receive Oscar nominations in the categories of “Best Actor” and “Best Director” from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
The movie was nominated for “Best Picture” (which it will probably now win as a result of this outcry), but that wasn’t good enough for Sharpton.

Did Ruth Bader Ginsburg have a nap during State of Union?
At an hour long, the State of the Union is a good chance to catch up on some shut-eye.
Or at least Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg thought - because it appears she nodded off during Obama's address on Tuesday night.
Cameras caught the moment that the 81-year-old justice's head dropped just after 10pm as the president neared the end of his speech, which clocked in at 59 minutes and 57 seconds.
Ginsburg, who has been caught snoozing at speeches in the past, was saved by colleagues Stephen Breyer and Anthony Kennedy, who repeatedly tried to keep her awake.

Carla Moore Of Pittsvillle Will Be Facing Charges Very Soon
Back in September 2013 we published an article stating Carla Moore, (the President of the Town Commission's Daughter) has been terminated from her job.
We then did an article stating there had been an embezzlement and the investigation was heading to the States Attorneys Office HERE.
I have been receiving quite a bit of messages asking just what the heck was going on with the investigation and today I followed up on it again.
The Maryland State Police have assigned one of their Officers specifically to this case and YES, charges are in fact forthcoming. They have also assigned a Prosecutor from the States Attorneys Office on this case. It is real and there will be charges on this case very soon.
It has floored me that NO OTHER Media source has done anything on it at all. In the mean time, more theft charges have been filed on Carla Moore recently, below. We'll keep you posted and now that everyone else has seen this article they'll now jump on board, since I have to do all of the investigative reporting for them and then they just steal is without giving SBYNews any credit.
Ireton Won't Admit That Labinal Will Only Leave 5 Employees Behind
Salisbury - Mayor James Ireton, Jr. reports this evening that he has received a response from Safran USA President and CEO Peter N. Lengyel. The body of that letter is attached. The Mayor notes that in the letter President Lengyel indicates that Labinal is “seeking ways which might allow some LPS employees to remain in Salisbury to provide technical support to our customers.”
“I know our Senator, Barbara Mikulski is in talks with representatives in the industry to try and reverse this decision. Salisbury is grateful for her effort,” said Mayor Ireton. “I am heartened by this correspondence in which Labinal/Safran has stated it may be possible for some employees to remain in Salisbury. I am also proud of the efforts of David Ryan and SWED as they work to find every conceivable way of limiting the effects of the Labinal/Safran announcement. I assure the community that all these efforts are genuine and in the best interests of our economy and those who are a vital part of it.”
Publishers Notes: Are Mikulski and Ireton trying to help Labinal KEEP the grant money by impressing upon taxpayers that Labinal is working to keep people employed in Salisbury?
The interesting FACT here is that there is NO mention of the grant, nor is there any mention of the 400 new employees Labinal assured the Feds they would hire in Salisbury if they got the grant.
My research has lead me to understand Labinal may leave as much as FIVE employees here for Technical Support, BIG DEAL!
Notice how Labinal also ADMITS that IF Maryland hadn't been so supportive, they might have made the move sooner. In other words, either they SCAMMED Ireton and Mikulski OR Ireton and Mikulski KNEW they were packing up and leaving anyway.
Either way, we deserve better leadership. No more, lessons learned. When you hand out MILLIONS to corporations, you secure their commitment as part of the contract. This is what you get when you elect life long politicians. No business experience.

Five things to watch in Obama's State of the Union address
President Obama will deliver his penultimate State of the Union address Tuesday night, with the White House envisioning the annual speech as an opportunity to parlay promising economic news into momentum for a populist agenda.
In an unusual move, the White House unveiled most of the major new proposals ahead of time, in an effort to win headlines as the new Republican Congress took control.
The president is expected to unveil legislation that would overhaul the tax code, providing credits to middle class families funded by hikes on the rich and big banks. And Obama will highlight or propose plans to expand broadband Internet access, offer free community college tuition and provide guaranteed paid sick and family leave.

Why It’s Time to Raise the Federal Tax on Gasoline
Twenty-two years ago, when the price of gas at the pump was $1 a gallon and a movie ticket was $4, Congress saw fit to set the gasoline tax at 18.4 cents a gallon. The idea was to ensure enough funds for the Federal Highway Trust Fund to keep our roads and bridges in good repair. Today, while almost all other prices have soared, the gas tax hasn’t budged, and the trust fund is depleted. With world oil prices crashing, we have a unique opportunity to raise the gas tax, replenish the trust fund, leverage private-sector financing and leave the U.S. consumer far better off than just a few weeks ago — all at the same time.
A number of lawmakers and senators from both parties are beginning to explore this idea. The new chairman of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, Republican John Thune of South Dakota, said on Fox News on Jan. 4 that raising the federal gas tax was among the options to replenish the trust fund. A month earlier, Democratic Rep. Earl Blumenauer of Oregon proposed a 15-cent hike in the gas tax to raise an estimated $170 billion over 10 years.
Back in 1993, the 18.4-cents a gallon tax represented roughly 40 percent of the then-prevailing cost of a gallon of petroleum on world markets. The world price of petroleum has more than tripled since then, so that the unchanged gas tax has declined to around 12 percent of the world petroleum price for a gallon of gas. With highway and mass transit costs rising along with other costs, the federal gas tax no longer provides the trust fund with enough money to address the essential needs of the federal land transport system.

“Did you fill out the media form?” a man appearing to be an organizer asked Watters outside the ”Stand With the Prophet” event.
“Yeah, I filled out the media form and I bought tickets too, personally,” the Fox News producer replied. “And now they’re saying I can’t go in.”
“There’s a certain type of media allowed,” the man replied to Watters.

Federal Court Says It’s 100% Legal To Give Cops The Finger
The 14-page opinion issued by the the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit ruled that the “ancient gesture of insult is not the basis for a reasonable suspicion of a traffic violation or impending criminal activity.”
The ruling comes in response to a case where John Swartz and his wife Judy Mayton-Swartz were forced to bring suit against two police officers who arrested Swartz back in May of 2006. The arrest was made simply as a result of John Swartz flipping off the officer who was using a radar device at an intersection in St. Johnsville, New York.
Swartz was charged with “disorderly conduct,” the common way that officers charge people when they have not committed any crime.
Even though a federal judge in the Northern District of New York had granted summary judgement in favor of the officers back in July of 2011, the Court of Appeals erased that decision.

Vandal paints over Silver Spring church sign
WASHINGTON — A vandal armed with a can of spray paint scrawled over a church sign that read: “Black Lives Matter.”
The white paint crossed out the word “Black” and replaced it with “All.”
Christ Congregational Church in Silver Spring, Maryland, brought the vandalized sign inside the sanctuary and made it a central part of the sermon Sunday.
“These are small aggressions, and they build up over time,” the Rev. Dr. Matthew Braddock tells NBC 4.
“I think that they’re deliberate, and they’re intentionally hurtful.”

Delaware: Low wage worker panel recommends moving minimum wage toward $15 an hour mark
A majority of panel studying issues facing low-wage workers is recommending an increase in the minimum wage to as much as $15 an hour.
“We made some progress last year, when we raised the minimum wage, but we knew we still had work to do,” said Sen. Robert I. Marshall, D-Wilmington, co-chairman. “We think this plan has practical recommendations that will help, not just people at the bottom of the economic ladder, but all Delawareans.”
The report calls for increasing the state’s minimum wage to $10.25 per hour by 2017. That wage would be indexed to the cost of living. The task force said the state should move toward a minimum wage in the $15 per hour range.

Fonda: ‘Hanoi Jane’ Moment Was A ‘Huge Mistake’
Actress Jane Fonda issued an apology late Friday for her infamous visit to North Vietnam in 1972, a moment that earned her the dubious nickname “Hanoi Jane.”
Fonda called it a “huge mistake” during a speech given at an arts center in Frederick, Maryland, the Associated Press reports. She made her comments in response to protests against her appearance.
“But those people out there… I’m a lightning rod,” Fonda told the audience, according to The Frederick News-Post. “This famous person goes and does something that looks like I’m against the troops, which wasn’t true, but it looked that way, and I’m a convenient target. So I understand.”
However, Fonda still considered her trip to the communist state at war with the U.S. a “great experience.” While on the trip, she took publicity shots manning an anti-aircraft gun used to shoot down American planes and publicly criticized the war effort against North Vietnam.

Allen West: If Sharpton Says Oscars Too White, Then I Say the NBA is Too Black
Former Florida Congressman Allen West made a good, logical point on his website the other day about all this race baiting going on with this year’s Oscars being “too white.” In fact, it is a point we all have heard before, but one few say on a national stage.
West’s site asked why it is a big deal to have one year of movie nominations that lack diversity when every year in the NBA lacks diversity?
It is a perfectly logical question.
Liberals may be terrible at handling the economy or protecting our nation, but they sure are entertaining. The latest side-splitter comes from the White House official court jester, Al Sharpton.
As the Washington Times reports, Reverend Al “announced he was holding an “emergency meeting” to discuss Hollywood’s all-white list of Oscar nominees and talk about possible action against the Academy Awards’ powers-who-be.”
“The movie industry is like the Rocky Mountains,” he said in a statement reported by Business Insider. “The higher you get, the whiter it gets. … I have called an emergency meeting early next week in Hollywood with the task force to discuss possible action around the Academy Awards.”
Now bear in mind this is only the second time in the last 20 years that only white folks were nominated for best actor, actress or director Oscars, so it’s not like there’s a continuing pattern of racism.
But I’ll tell you where there IS a clear pattern of racism. It’s in the NFL!
I did a quick review of the starting line-ups for the four playoff teams (Seahawks, Packers, Colts and Patriots) and 65 percent of those players are black. I’d say that’s a little lop-sided, wouldn’t you — considering blacks make up only around 14 percent of the U.S. population.
And don’t get me started on the racism in the NBA!
