More Non-White Voters for the GOP
Republicans made significant gains among minorities on Tuesday, but they need to do even better in 2016.
Republicans made historic gains across the country on Tuesday, including significant progress with minority voters. Republican Tim Scott became the first elected black senator from the South. Mia Love became the first Republican woman of African-American descent to be elected to the House, and the GOP Hispanic Caucus gained new members from West Virginia and Florida. But marquee names aside, the effort Republicans made has to be intensified if they are to become more competitive in higher-turnout presidential-election years.
One of Mitt Romney’s great failures in 2012 was that he won only 29 percent of Latino voters and a pathetic 27 percent among Asian voters — considerably down from the support George W. Bush had won from these groups in 2000 and 2004. This year, the GOP’s share of votes from these Americans improved. In the national exit poll for local House races, Democrats won 64 percent of Latino voters and also won Asian voters — but only with 52 percent. Among African Americans, Republican support ticked up slightly from Romney’s 6 percent of the vote to 10 percent. Native Americans, who make up 1 percent of the national electorate, favored Republicans by 52 to 43 percent.

Obama Says FCC Should Reclassify Internet As A Utility
President Obama has come out in support of reclassifying internet service as a utility, a move that would allow the Federal Communications Commission to enforce more robust regulations and protect net neutrality. "To put these protections in place, I'm asking the FCC to reclassifying internet service under Title II of a law known as the Telecommunications Act," Obama says in a statement this morning. "In plain English, I'm asking [the FCC] to recognize that for most Americans, the internet has become an essential part of everyday communication and everyday life."
There's been a growing battle around protecting net neutrality — the principle that all internet traffic, no matter what it is or where it comes from, should be treated equally — ever since the FCC's original protections were struck down in court earlier this year. Those protections were able to be struck down because the commission didn't make the rules in a way that it actually had authority over, so it's been trying to create new rules that it will definitely be able to enforce. It hasn't chosen to use Title II so far, but net neutrality advocates, now including President Obama, have been pushing for its use.

Outrage: green energy crony capitalists seek federal grant to pay off subsidized federal loans for bird-slaughtering, pilot-blinding solar plant
The Ivanpah solar energy plant in Nevada is a horror, slaughtering thousands of birds annually by incinerating them mid-air, failing to deliver much more than 25% of the power it promised, soaking up hundreds of millions of dollars in subsidized federal loans, and now seeking to have taxpayers pay off those loans with a gift (a “grant”) to its ultra-wealthy owners Google and solar energy giant NRG, who have already reaped huge tax benefits.
After already receiving a controversial $1.6 billion construction loan from U.S. taxpayers, the wealthy investors of a California solar power plant now want a $539 million federal grant to pay off their federal loan.
"This is an attempt by very large cash generating companies that have billions on their balance sheet to get a federal bailout, i.e. a bailout from us - the taxpayer for their pet project," said Reason Foundation VP of Research Julian Morris. "It's actually rather obscene."
The Ivanpah solar electric generating plant is owned by Google and renewable energy giant NRG, which are responsible for paying off their federal loan. If approved by the U.S. Treasury, the two corporations will not use their own money, but taxpayer cash to pay off 30 percent of the cost of their plant, but taxpayers will receive none of the millions in revenues the plant will generate over the next 30 years.

GOP Leaders Shouldn’t Forget That They Won Because Obama Sucks, Not Because They’re Great
For the American people, voting in the 2014 election was like choosing whether they’d rather get Democrat Ebola or the Republican flu. Just because they chose the flu doesn’t mean that Republicans should start assuming that people love them.
They don’t.
Hell, I’m a conservative and even I don’t love the Republican Party.
Our leadership teams in the House and Senate are comprised of inarticulate country club Republicans who are to politics what the Waffle House is to fine dining. Many of the Capitol Hill staffers and consultants are out-of-touch lickspittles who hold flyover country conservatives in contempt because they’ve errantly concluded that being in the proximity of members of Congress somehow raises their IQ 40 points. The National Republican Senatorial Committee? Everyone in that organization should be fired and run out of politics. Afterwards, the GOP should burn the building to the ground and salt the earth so nothing will ever grow there again.
That doesn’t mean everyone is doing a bad job. Most people thought Republicans would lose governorships, but we added them instead. Thank you, Republican Governors Association. Also, Reince Priebus and the RNC bent over backwards to improve the GOP’s election data, to increase turnout, and to build bridges to the base. That paid off big time. We also can’t forget conservative Republicans like Ted Cruz, Jeff Sessions, Mike Lee, Tim Scott and Trey Gowdy who have stood tall, fired conservatives up and gave the base a reason to vote when our “leaders” were letting us down. That’s not a small matter because if the whole Republican Party was made up of mediocrities like Lindsey Graham, Thad Cochran and Peter King, it wouldn’t have mattered whether we voted or not because the country would be going to hell on a shutter no matter what we did.

Rush Limbaugh Threatens To Sue Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee
Radio host Rush Limbaugh has threatened to sue the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) for defamation, The Daily Caller has learned.
Limbaugh retained the services of lawyer Patty Glaser and demanded that the DCCC “preserve all records in anticipation of a lawsuit for defamation and interference” after the Democratic Party group led a campaign against Limbaugh based on out-of-context statements the host made about sexual assault. Limbaugh’s legal team delivered a letter to DCCC representatives Monday informing them of the legal threat. Limbaugh has also demanded a public retraction and apology.
The Limbaugh team is currently proceeding from the standpoint of litigating and has not yet made a decision as to whether the DCCC could make any concessions at this point to prevent the lawsuit.

Obama’s $1.6 Billion Solar Plant Still Failing, Wants Taxpayer Bailout of Another $539 Million
Obama gave the California-based Ivanpah Solar Electric Power Plant $1.6 billion of your tax dollars already claiming that it would bring a thousand jobs and power to millions of people. But the plant is still failing financially and now is demanding another $539 million taxpayer bailout to keep it afloat.
Like all of Obama’s so-called “green energy” projects, this is a massive failure and a giant waste of tax money.
After already receiving a controversial $1.6 billion construction loan from U.S. taxpayers, the wealthy investors of a California solar power plant now want a $539 million federal grant to pay off their federal loan.
“This is an attempt by very large cash generating companies that have billions on their balance sheet to get a federal bailout, i.e. a bailout from us – the taxpayer for their pet project,” said Reason Foundation VP of Research Julian Morris. “It’s actually rather obscene.”
“They’re already paying less than the market rate,” said Morris, author of a lengthy report detailing alleged cronyism and corruption in the Obama administration’s green energy programs. “Now demanding or asking for a subsidy in the form of a grant directly paying off the loan is an egregious abuse.”

Sting Operation Nets Arrest At Port Of Baltimore
BALTIMORE (WJZ) — A three-day sting turned up dozens of violations and one arrest at the Port of Baltimore.
Gigi Barnett reports state troopers teamed up with several police agencies to catch drivers hauling illegal and dangerous cargo.
Baltimore’s port is a gateway to the city, a massive destination for goods worth millions and an open door for illegal or dangerous cargo.
This week, Maryland State Troopers spearheaded a three-day sting with Homeland Security and several other police agencies just to see what’s coming in and out of Baltimore.

Riding the Wave
A beautiful red tsunami swept across America Tuesday night.
Liberal pollsters and liberal pundits on TV refused to see the Republican wave coming and still can’t believe it came.
But the S.S. Obama and its cargo of bad ideas sank like a rock, dragging Captain Harry Reid and a motley crew of hopeful Democrat office seekers with it to the bottom.
Republican candidates won from sea to shining sea. By January, the GOP could hold a 54-seat majority in the Senate.
The GOP also grew its majority in the House by at least 12 seats and kicked butt in most of the 36 governors’ races, pulling upsets in blue liberal places like Massachusetts, Maryland and Illinois.
Republican Party bosses deserve three cheers and full credit for their mid-term election strategy, their passion and their hard work. Their anti-Obama campaign worked well.
But I have some advice for the GOP as it makes plans to take control of Congress in 2015 and looks toward winning the presidential election of 2016 – when an anti-Obama strategy won’t work.

McDonald's Recalls Happy Meal Toy For Choking Risk
WASHINGTON (AP) -- McDonald's is recalling a Hello Kitty-themed whistle given to children in Happy Meals, citing a chance they could choke on some of its parts.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Monday that two children have reportedly coughed out pieces of the whistle that they had sucked into their mouths, including one child who received medical attention.
The safety agency said that parts of the three-inch tall "Hello Kitty Birthday Lollipop" whistle can detach and be inhaled, posing a risk to small children.

Uncle Sam’s Databases of Suspicion
A Shadow Form of National ID
It began with an unexpected rapping on the front door.
When Wiley Gill opened up, no one was there. Suddenly, two police officers appeared, their guns drawn, yelling, “Chico Police Department.”
“I had tunnel vision,” Gill said, “The only thing I could see was their guns.”
After telling him to step outside with his hands in the air, the officers lowered their guns and explained. They had received a report — later determined to be unfounded — that a suspect in a domestic disturbance had fled into Gill’s house. The police officers asked the then-26-year-old if one of them could do a sweep of the premises. Afraid and feeling he had no alternative, Gill agreed. One officer remained with him, while the other conducted the search. After that they took down Gill’s identification information. Then they were gone — but not out of his life.
Instead, Gill became the subject of a “suspicious activity report,” or SAR, which police officers fill out when they believe they’re encountering a person or situation that “reasonably” might be connected in some way to terrorism. The one-page report, filed shortly after the May 2012 incident, offered no hint of terrorism. It did, however, suggest that the two officers had focused on Gill’s religion, noting that his “full conversion to Islam as a young [white male] and pious demeanor is [sic] rare.”

‘Kissing bug’ disease: Should you be worried?
Researchers at the annual gathering of tropical medicine experts on Tuesday warned of a deadly disease from abroad that is threatening the health of more and more Americans. They weren't talking about Ebola, but Chagas, the "kissing bug" disease.
Called a silent killer because it's often hard to diagnose in the early stages, Chagas is a parasitic infection that can lead to serious cardiac and intestinal complications and even death. It typically spreads through blood-sucking "kissing" bugs that bite on people's faces during the night and is estimated to affect 7 to 8 million people worldwide. The disease can also be spread from blood transfusions, organ transplants and congenital transfer from mother to child, according to the CDC. Until recently it was considered a problem only in Mexico, Central America and South America. Over the past few years, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has seen cases across half the United States, but in most cases the victims were believed to have been infected abroad.
As recently as 2012, scientists expressed worry about the "globalization" of Chagas.

MSNBC's Ratings Match Democrats' Sinking Fortunes
As the Democratic Party loses popularity with voters, the party’s "house network" MSNBC is seeing its ratings plummet among the all-important 25-to-54 age group, according to USA Today media critic Michael Wolff.
In the October ratings battle, MSNBC trailed Fox News and CNN in total day viewership and garnered its lowest prime-time total audience since 2005, according to Mediabistro. In terms of total-day viewership among 25- to 54-year-olds, the network ranked behind Fox, CNN, and HLN.
MSNBC’s star Rachel Maddow recently experienced her lowest quarterly ratings since her show began.
The network has tried to emulate Fox News’ success in building an audience of ideologically driven viewers, and in the mid-to-late 2000s managed to boost its very low ratings by identifying with the growing unpopularity of the Bush administration.
With Barack Obama’s election as president in 2008, MSNBC thought it had found its ticket toward ratings success in his efforts to transform the United States.

Liberal BEGGER Obama & Associates Still Begging For Money & Help Using Profanity!
Joe --
You heard from the President this morning. He put it his way. I'll put it mine: Election Day is behind us -
- let's get back to work.
You heard from the President this morning. He put it his way. I'll put it mine: Election Day is behind us -
- let's get back to work.
The fight for change can't start or stop with one election, because the fights we care about are in front of us. That's why we started OFA in the first place.
So you have a choice to make: Pack it in and wait out the next two years on the sidelines -- or decide that this fight needs you more than ever.
We have a budget deadline this Friday night, so it's time to decide:
Will you chip in $5 or more today?
I know a lot has been asked of you recently. I get a lot of the same emails you do.
We're asking for money today because the work ahead of us is tough. And I wouldn't be asking if I didn't think your donation would make a real impact, and actually help real people.
Here's why: On Saturday, the Obamacare marketplace opens again. For the millions of Americans who still need to get health insurance, this is their chance.
OFA is planning to go all in to help -- that's what it's going to take.
We're up against the same nasty, cynical crap that's always been thrown at us around health care. This time -- now that Obamacare repealers are leading the Senate -- they think they can beat us.
If we do our jobs, they won't just be wrong about that. This will be the time we look back on as a defining moment in the fight over this law. The more people who sign up for coverage, the harder it is for the other side to justify trying to take it all away.
This will be decided at the grassroots level. That's the way it's been from the beginning -- whether it was August 2009, when pundits were saying we didn't have a chance to pass reform, or October 2013, when the other side was declaring the entire law dead because a website didn't work right for a few weeks.
You proved the cynics wrong. And today, there are 10.3 million fewer people uninsured than there were in 2013.
So now it's up to you -- are you going to help finish what we started together?
We have two years left with President Obama in the White House, and I'm not done fighting. Not even close.
If you give a damn, join me and give a dollar, too:
Thanks,
Messina Jim Messina

OK Obama, KISS MY ASS. If your people can curse, so can I. What I can offer you is tissues. Welcome Back America! Joe Albero

The Hackers, The Congressman, and Sharyl Attkisson's Book Party
"I'm pretty sure I'm the least socially connected journalist in D.C.," said Sharyl Attkisson.
At the moment, she was being wry. Attkisson, the Emmy-winning investigative reporter who left CBS News this year, spent Thursday evening at a Georgetown mansion, celebrating the release of her reporting memoir, "Stonewalled." Her hosts, defense analyst Michael Pillsbury and arts patron Susan Pillsbury, had hosted Donald Rumsfeld in the same grand rooms and zen garden when the former defense secretary published a compilation of learned wisdoms. Attkisson's book was even more important, alleging that the federal government established "a backdoor link" to access her computers after her reporting on the Fast and Furious and Benghazi scandals. The connected had come out: Howard Kurtz, Grover Norquist, Juan Williams, Kurt Bardella, Carl Cannon, Byron York, and the outgoing House Oversight chairman, Representative Darrell Issa.
Attkisson thanked the guests, as well as her colleagues at CBS who'd lived through her hell of reporting great stories and seeing them spiked for political reasons. The reception to her book, said Attkisson, had been positive "even from some of my colleagues that I wasn't quite sure about." It had been negative from the people who were not really interested in journalism.
“When an administration says ‘no,’ it's no different than when Andrew Jackson marched Indians down the Trail of Tears, to their death.”

Rap Sheets, Watchlists and Spy Networks Now Available With Single Click
Law enforcement officials nationwide now have the ability to search multiple sensitive databases, including spy agency intranets and homeland security suspicious activity reporting – with a single login.
The breakthrough in interconnectivity is expected to close information gaps that, among other things, have contributed to the rise in homegrown terrorism and school shootings.
"Let's say you have a lone-wolf incident or an active-shooter incident, where you need to be able to securely share information in a timely way. With a single sign-on capability, there is no wrong door," Kshemendra Paul, program manager for the Information Sharing Environment at the Office of Director of National Intelligence, said during an interview. "If you have an account, you can get to the virtual command center that the fusion center may be using – in a very direct way."
It took about three years to tear down silos without eroding privacy controls.
"In many cases, the data sources have different access requirements – so you can do a federated query that goes across the multiple sources, but with controlled access," Paul said Thursday.
That means some users still will be blocked from seeing certain information.

Mitch McConnell: Rand Paul 'Can Count on Me' in 2016
If Sen. Rand Paul decides to run for president, expect soon-to-be Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to back him up.
"Whatever he decides to do," McConnell told the Lexington Herald-Leader’sSam Youngman. "I don't think he's made a final decision on that. But he'll be able to count on me."
Paul endorsed McConnell in his Republican primary and campaigned with the senior Kentucky senator in his re-election race.
"Obviously, I'm a big supporter of Rand Paul,” McConnell explained. “We've developed a very tight relationship, and I'm for him."

COAST GUARDSMAN TO FACE COURT-MARTIAL FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT
PORTSMOUTH, Va. — A Coast Guardsman accused of sexual assault and abusive sexual contact will face a general court-martial expected to begin on Jan. 20, 2015 in Norfolk.
The decision by Vice Adm. William Lee, Coast Guard Atlantic Area commander, is based on the recommendation of an Article 32 hearing held on October 2. The investigating officer found that reasonable grounds exist to try Seaman Luis Escobosa, for violations of the Uniform Code of Military Justice including:
The charges follow a four-month long investigation revealing that Escobosa had committed a sexual act upon the victim without consent while in Baltimore on or about October 2013. The Coast Guard Investigative Service completed the investigation, which included interviews of witnesses who have since transferred from the area.

Proposed internet sales tax ‘single biggest anti-taxpayer act in this Congress’
The Marketplace Fairness Act, an Internet sales tax proposal that Congress is expected to push by the end of the year, is the “single-biggest anti-taxpayer act in this Congress,” National Taxpayers Union president Pete Sepp said in a phone conference Thursday.
The National Taxpayers Union (NTU) commissioned research on the economic impact of the legislation, which would allow states to reach across borders to collect sales tax on items sold to consumers in their respective states.
Existing studies determined that the MFA would impose “measurably heavier state and local sales tax burdens on American households, owing to new business obligations to collect and remit so-called ‘remote’ purchases,” according to the NTU. Under the law, businesses would become agents for states in which they have no voice.
The research found that the tax collection under the MFA’s provisions could hit $340 billion by 2024. The average impacted household would pay an additional $360 in state and local taxes in 2015. Typically, far information is requested before a law of such magnitude is passed.

It's Over: DSCC Pulls Ads For Mary Landrieu in Louisiana Run-Off
After Republicans easily clinched a Senate majority on Tuesday night, we knew the run-off election in Louisiana wouldn't go well for Democrat Mary Landrieu against her Republican opponent Bill Cassidy and now, it just got a lot worse.POLITICO is reporting the DSCC has pulled funding for television advertising in the state.
The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is canceling at least some of its advertising reservations for Sen. Mary Landrieu ahead of the December runoff in Louisiana.
The committee canceled buys planned from Monday through December 6 in the Lafayette, Baton Rouge and New Orleans markets, three sources tracking the air war told POLITICO.
It makes no sense for Democrats to further invest resources in a race that Landrieu will not only likely lose in December, but a race that no longer means anything when it comes to Democrat control and power in the Senate.

Lackluster Jobs Growth Continues
By Peter Morici
The economy added 214,000 jobs in October. The pace has picked up in the last year, but it is still far short of the 400,000 per month needed to bring unemployment down to acceptable levels.
The official unemployment rate is 5.8 percent, down from its recession peak of 10 percent, but that has been mostly accomplished by encouraging prime working-aged adults to sit out the labor market — neither work nor look for work. If the same percentage of adults were in the labor force today as when Presidents Obama or George W. Bush took office, the jobless rate would be approximately 9.8 and 11.9 percent, respectively.
The Obama administration alibis that baby boomer retirements are driving down adult participation in the labor market. However, one in six men between ages 25 and 64 — too old for college and too young to retire — are jobless. Many are simply sitting at home watching ESPN and often relying on friends and relatives for support.
Three problems have limited jobs creation during the Bush and Obama years — a slowdown in economic growth, the absence of effective border controls and the work disincentives imposed by expanded social programs intended to redress income inequality.
In this century, GDP growth has averaged 1.8 per year, whereas during the Reagan – Clinton period it was 3.4 percent. The reluctance of both Bush and Obama to confront Chinese protectionism and open up offshore oil for development have created a huge trade deficit, which sends consumer demand and about 5 million jobs abroad.
Efforts to sustain jobs in the United States are frustrated by federal and state minimum-wage laws and labor market regulations that limit employer flexibility, encourage the substitution of machines for workers and the employment created by public infrastructure spending.
Often government regulation of business is more burdensome than necessary to accomplish their legitimate objectives. For example, Dodd-Frank has encouraged the consolidation of banks, and that has resulted in more compliance officers in banks and fewer loans to medium-sized and small businesses.

Minneapolis School District Now Needs 'Permission' to Suspend Any Black, Hispanic Student
The Minneapolis public school system announced a major new district-wide policy for disciplining students: any suspension of a non-white student requires the district superintendent's approval.
The MPS has been stung by reports that students of color are 10 times more likely to receive a suspension than white students. The Minneapolis school system has an enrollment of over 32,000 students. Seventy percent are non-white.
School superintendent Bernadeia Johnson, a black woman, maintains that she wants to "disrupt" the current suspension trends.
Superintendent Johnson says that her new policy is aimed at forcing local school administrators to deeply "probe" the reasons for issuing a suspension before that punishment is handed out.
Johnson claims that suspensions meted out to minority students were all too often based on behavior that would not have led to a suspension for a white student.

Fed. Dist. Court in VT Allows Private Nuisance Claim Over Wind Project to Proceed Finding no Collateral Estoppel
Plaintiff alleges that the Sheffield Wind Project that the Defendants owned and operated created an unreasonable noise impact, that the noise prevented the Plaintiff from gardening, eating outside, walking and other activities similar, and the Plaintiff therefore suffered stress, pain and suffering and loss of the use of his property.
The District Court of Vermont found that the Plaintiff submitted sufficient information for a private nuisance claim, due to interference with the use and enjoyment of another’s property that is both unreasonable and understanding. Defendants contended that the Plaintiff’s complaint should be collaterally estopped because the claims litigated were already decided when the Plaintiff unsuccessfully contended and appealed against the granting of the permit, but Plaintiff in return claims that the standard applied for the permit were different from the standard applied for private nuisance.

Rise And Shine. What Kids Around The World Eat For Breakfast.
Americans tend to lack imagination when it comes to breakfast. The vast majority of us, surveys say, start our days with cold cereal — and those of us with children are more likely to buy the kinds with the most sugar. Children all over the world eat cornflakes and drink chocolate milk, of course, but in many places they also eat things that would strike the average American palate as strange, or worse.
Breakfast for a child in Burkina Faso, for example, might well include millet-seed porridge; in Japan, rice and a putrid soybean goop known as natto; in Jamaica, a mush of plantains or peanuts or cornmeal; in New Zealand, toast covered with Vegemite, a salty paste made of brewer’s yeast; and in China, jook, a rice gruel topped with pickled tofu, strings of dried meat or egg. In Cuba, Brazil and elsewhere in Latin America, it is not uncommon to find very young children sipping coffee with milk in the mornings. In Pakistan, kids often take their milk with Rooh Afza, a bright red syrup made from fruits, flowers and herbs. Swedish filmjolk is one of dozens of iterations of soured milk found on breakfast tables across Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa. For a child in southern India, the day might start with a steamed cake made from fermented lentils and rice called idli. “The idea that children should have bland, sweet food is a very industrial presumption,” says Krishnendu Ray, a professor of food studies at New York University who grew up in India. “In many parts of the world, breakfast is tepid, sour, fermented and savory.”

STATE POLICE HELICOPTER RESCUES TWO FROM POTOMAC RIVER
(Sandy Hook, Maryland) Two experienced kayakers experienced trouble and had to be rescued from the Potomac River Sunday, November 9, 2014, just north of the Rt. 340 Bridge in Sandy Hook, Maryland. Fire and rescue units from both Frederick and Washington counties responded with Maryland State Police helicopter, Trooper 3, to their call for assistance just before 3:00 p.m. yesterday.
Due to the cold water and air temperatures, fire department rescuers coordinated with the crew of Trooper 3 to hoist the victims to safety. At the time of the rescue, water temperatures were reported to be about 63 degrees, with an air temperature of 56 degrees. Conditions caused a risk of hypothermia for the victims.
The crew of Trooper 3 lowered a rescue basket down to the kayakers, who were able to climb into the rescue basket. The victims were flown to a waiting ambulance for further evaluation. The rescue location was 70 to 80 yards off the Maryland shore north of the Rt. 340 Bridge.
The Maryland State Police Aviation Command has served Maryland citizens since 1970 and operates a fleet of ten helicopters from seven bases throughout Maryland on a 24/7/365 basis. Missions include medevac, law enforcement, search & rescue, homeland security, and disaster assessment. The success of rescues performed by the Aviation Command depends a great deal on the cooperative effort of local fire, rescue, EMS, and law enforcement agencies.

With Economic Study of Phosphorus Rule Complete, Advocates Say No More Delay
Advocates Say New Rule to Limit Manure Represents Biggest Opportunity for Clean Water in 30 Years
(Annapolis, MD) – A Salisbury University economic study shows a new rule to better manage manure would be comparable to, or cost less than, other Chesapeake Bay pollution-reduction efforts, said a coalition of nonprofit organizations working to reduce pollution and increase transparency from agriculture. The study provided an overall cost estimate for the agricultural industry to implement the Phosphorus Management Tool (PMT) using a phased-in approach, which advocates say shows the new rule is workable.
The science-based PMT would reduce pollution by limiting manure applied to farm fields already contaminated with excess phosphorus levels. The rule would improve water quality, protect public health reduce harmful algae blooms.
“Phosphorus pollution from manure is getting worse, not better in the Chesapeake Bay and Maryland waterways. If this continues, Maryland will jeopardize the decades of progress we’ve made to clean up our waters,” said Joanna Diamond of Environment Maryland.
Experts say the new manure rule is one of the biggest opportunities to clean up the Chesapeake Bay and local waters in more than 30 years.
“It is past time to stop studying this issue and time to start acting,” said Bob Gallagher, of West/Rhode Riverkeeper, Inc. “Rarely can a single initiative achieve such huge pollution reductions in one fell swoop. The new phosphorus rule, like the phosphorus detergent ban of the 1980s, is one of those opportunities to really make a difference.”

Colorado Governor Hickenlooper Giving Cannabis Cash Back to the Voters
Yesterday Governor Hickenlooper announced the upcoming Colorado state budget, which includes a $30.5 million rebate for Coloradotaxpayers, all due to new marijuana taxes. Did you hear that, Colorado? Not only do you get to use, possess, and buy recreational cannabis at your convenience, but now you’re getting paid back for it.
The total state marijuana revenue was actually higher than predicted in the election blue book for 2013’s Proposition AA, which means the state must refund the money or ask the voters again to keep it. Hickenlooper will be allowing Congress to smooth out the details of the actual rebate when the time comes.
So, let’s get this straight: not only is the Marijuana Tax Cash Fund going directly to taxpayers, but it’s actually higher than they expected? Awesome!
Another $33.6 million from the Marijuana Tax Cash Fund will go towards enforcement and oversight of the marijuana industry, including required reserves, promoting public health and public safety, regulations, law enforcement, and the prevention of youth marijuana use.

Look What Sheriff Joe Did to Inmates Who Destroyed the American Flag
Sheriff Joe Arpaio is known throughout the country for his tough, unorthodox methods of dealing with prison inmates and enforcing the borders.
Arpaio is the sheriff of Maricopa County, Arizona. He’s been an outspoken advocate of tough immigration laws, including the controversial Arizona immigration law that was all but struck down by the Supreme Court in 2012.
After dozens of prison inmates desecrated the American flags that were hanging in their cells, Arpaio came up with a great punishment to keep them from doing it again: he put them on a diet of bread and water for a week.
Fox News reports:
Sheriff Joe Arpaio, of Maricopa County, told the news agency that 38 inmates in six different jails were getting meals of bread and water twice daily – the punishment for destroying government property while in custody.
“These inmates have destroyed the American flag that was placed in their cells. Tearing them, writing on them, stepping on them, throwing them in the toilet, trash or wherever they feel,” Arpaio said in a statement. “It’s a disgrace to those who have fought for our country.”
Arpaio said the punishment will last seven days; a second offense would bring 10 additional days of the bread-and-water diet.

Arpaio is the sheriff of Maricopa County, Arizona. He’s been an outspoken advocate of tough immigration laws, including the controversial Arizona immigration law that was all but struck down by the Supreme Court in 2012.

Why Larry Hogan's Election Probably Means Fewer State Workers In Maryland
If Anirban Basu is right, Maryland is on a path toward cutting state jobs.
The job cuts won't happen overnight, said Basu, an economist who is the CEO of Baltimore economic and policy consulting firm Sage Policy Group Inc. But the writing seems to be on the wall.
Maryland's government continues to see revenue shortfalls, putting a pinch on future state spending possibilities, Basu said. Add in this week's election of Republican gubernatorial candidate Larry Hogan, who campaigned on a platform of lowering taxes, and you have a recipe for smaller government. That, in turn, would point to state job cuts.

Watch the Intro to Ben Carson’s ‘Breath of Fresh Air’ Documentary Ad
This weekend witnesses the debut of Ben Carson‘s documentary TV ad so obviously geared towards establishing him as a Republican candidate for 2016. More than 30 channels across the nation will air the 40-minute special, entitled “Breath of Fresh Air,” on either Saturday or Sunday.
The ad starts out exactly as you might expect: Lots of medical imagery, including a flat-lining heart monitor (meant to signify America’s demise?); dramatic music set to video of Dr. Carson in scrubs at his hospital; footage of Fox News and CNN anchors discussing his possible 2016 run; and the neurosurgeon looking directly into the camera while reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
The pledge gives way to an unending two-minute female narration, full of disjointed sentences and awkward emphasis on arbitrary words.
Oh, and, what’s that? Is that a title card written in Times New Roman and other basic fonts? Yes, it is:

13 Reasons To Stop Drinking Soda
When consumed in excess, added sugar can have disastrous effects on your health.
However, some sources of sugar are worse than others… and sugary drinks are the worst, by far.
This primarily applies to sugary soda, but also to fruit juices, highly sweetened coffees and other sources of liquid sugar.
Here are 13 reasons to avoid soda (and other sugary drinks) like the plague.
1. Sugary Drinks Do Not Make You Feel Full And Are Strongly Linked To Weight Gain
Added sugar is highly fattening… and liquid sugar even more so.
One of the reasons for this, is that sugar supplies large amounts of the simple sugar fructose, which does not lower the hunger hormone ghrelin in the same way as glucose, the main carb found in starchy foods (1).
Studies have also shown that fructose does not seem to stimulate the satiety centers in the brain in the same way as glucose (2). The brain is actually supposed to regulate your calorie intake. If you eat more of one food (like potatoes), you should automatically eat less of something else instead.
Liquid sugar doesn’t work in this way… when people consume it, they usually add iton top of the total calorie intake (3). In other words, sugary drinks don’t make you feel full, so you eat the same amount of food as before, but with a whole lot of extra sugar calories on the side (4, 5).
In one study, people who added soda on top of their current diet ended up consuming 17% more calories than before. That is a huge amount, which could easily lead to obesity over a few years (6). Not surprisingly, studies have shown that people who drink sugar-sweetened beverages consistently gain more weight than people who don’t (7, 8, 9).
In one study in children, each daily serving of sugar-sweetened beverages was linked to a 60% increased risk of obesity (10). The truth is… sugary drinks are THE most fattening aspect of the modern diet. If you want to lose weight, or avoid gaining it over time, then you should seriously consider removing these drinks from your life.

This Trait Will Make No One Want To Hire You
"He only errs when he thinks he knows what he does not know" – Socrates
One of the worst traits a candidate can exhibit is being a "know it all."
There's a huge difference between someone who has healthy self-esteem and someone who's a "know it all."
A person with healthy self-esteem has clear knowledge of his strengths and abilities, but is comfortable knowing he has limitations.
People who are more amenable to suggestions and advice tend to be more likable, and typically make better business partners, employees and managers. They don't need to be an expert on everything.
"Barb" came for coaching because she couldn't decide on a career path. When she attempted to get a job, though undecided about her ultimate career path, she failed to get hired. Barb was suffering from a sense of helplessness and despair, but she could not take in anything I said.
