Marriage Deficit Matters the Most

Forget the budget deficit. The real problem is our family deficit, says Washington Post columnist Robert Samuelson.

"It explains some stubborn poverty and our frustrations in combating it. We've learned that what good families provide cannot easily be gotten elsewhere. For the nation, this is the deficit that matters most."

Marriage is becoming an endangered species. Divorce rates remain high, and previous taboos against premarital sex, cohabitation and out-of-wedlock births have essentially vanished, he notes.

Most people probably know marriage has become more unusual, but many might not realize the extent of its disappearance, Samuelson maintains, citing the book "Generation Unbound: Drifting into Sex and Parenthood without Marriage" by Isabel Sawhill.

In 1960, only 12 percent of adults ages 25 to 34 had never married. In 2010, that figure had jumped to 47 percent. Naturally the number of single-parent homes has exploded, jumping from 7 percent in 1950 to 31 percent by 2013. The rise of single parents caused poverty rates to jump and personal attention to children to slide, he argues, noting that two parents are typically better than one when it comes to providing children financial and emotional support.

If marriage rates had remained the 1970 level, child poverty would drop by 20 percent, Samuelson says, citing Sawhill's calculations.

Michigan Democrat For Governor Signed Up Staff For Non-Obamacare Plans, Despite Obamacare Support

Democratic Michigan gubernatorial candidate Mark Schauer registered his gubernatorial campaign staff for non-Obamacare health care plans, The Daily Caller has learned.

Schauer registered his staff’s plans through the Small Business Association of Michigan, not through Obamacare plans.

Schauer voted for Obamacare as a U.S. congressman. The Democrat currently trails Republican incumbent Gov. Rick Snyder by about five and a half points.

A Most Consequential Campaign Speech

Reagan’s “A Time for Choosing” continues to reverberate 50 years later.

On October 27, 1964, 50 years ago Monday, a movie actor and television host delivered a 30-minute speech on primetime national television in support of the presidential candidacy of Barry Goldwater.

There were no visual diversions, and the production values by today’s standards were primitive. Few if any viewers realized it, but they were watching a future president of the United States.

But perhaps Ronald Reagan, the man on screen, had an inkling. Higher-ups in the Goldwater campaign didn’t want him on the air, for fear he would distract attention from the current candidate. But Reagan, using the negotiating skills he developed as president of the Screen Actors Guild, promised not to go on if Barry Goldwater called him and asked.

Reagan knew Goldwater and presumably figured that he would be reluctant to make the call. Goldwater didn’t, and he carried six states in the election the next week. In 1980 and 1984, 16 and 20 years later, Reagan carried 44 and 49.

The Scales Are Finally Falling From America's Obama-Obscured Eyes

Do you all realize what a major deal it is that liberal comics are now openly ridiculing President Obama — and not just for his mannerisms and the like but based on his abject policy failures?

In his first few years and beyond, liberal funnymen sometimes complained that Obama was so flawless that he didn't provide them any material. Of course, we knew at the time that this otherworldly caricature of Obama was wholly mythical, but it was nonetheless very real in the eyes of its liberal beholders. They regarded him with a quasi-idolatrous zeal — almost as though it would be sacrilegious to criticize, much less mock, him.

But on "Saturday Night Live," among other shows, the comics have grown increasingly derisive. In the most recent episode, the Obama character lamented that a New York doctor had been diagnosed with Ebola. He said: "Now, some people want to criticize the way our administration has handled this crisis, and it's true we made a few mistakes early on. But, I assure you, it was nowhere near as bad as how we handled the ISIS situation. I mean, our various Secret Service mishaps or the scandals of the IRS and NSA. And I don't know if you guys remember, but the Obamacare website had some pretty serious problems, too. In fact, if you look at all the stuff that's happened in my second term, this whole Ebola thing is probably one of my greatest accomplishments."

Folks, this would be bad for the least politically correct president ever, but it's devastatingly brutal for the most politically correct president in the history of the universe.

Detroit man fights $30k child support bill for kid that is not his

DETROIT (WXYZ) - The State of Michigan is ordering a Detroit man to pay tens of thousands of dollars, or go to prison. The reason? He owes back child support for a child that everyone agrees is not his.

"I feel like I’m standing in front of a brick wall with nowhere to go," said Carnell Alexander.

He says he learned about the paternity case against him during a traffic stop in Detroit in the early 90s. The officer told him he is a deadbeat dad, there was a warrant out for his arrest.

“I knew I didn’t have a child, so I was kind of blown back,” said Alexander.

The state said he fathered a child in 1987, and ignored a court order to pay up. It was the first Carnell had heard of the court order. He'd never even met the child.

“And when you were telling them in court – that it was not my child?" "They told me it was too late to get a DNA test," said Alexander.

It also was not easy to get a DNA test. Alexander didn't know where the woman was that had claimed he fathered a child. He only had an 8th-grade education, off-and-on employment at the time, and no money to hire help.

After Spending Billions on Green ‘Technology,' Britain Faces Blackouts

Britain may face blackouts this winter, despite having spent an unprecedented amount on green technologies. The National Grid has revealed it is now considering dimming the lights in every home in the country, and may even pay factories to close in order to save electricity.

According to the National Grid’s Winter Outlook report the reason for the shortages is the closure of coal fired power stations. The coal stations were closed in order to meet Britain's green targets and have been replaced with wind turbines that produce a fraction of the power.

This has left the grid with a surplus of just 4.1 percent, the lowest level since 2006/2007. Whilst the grid can cope with that under normal circumstances it does mean that if there is a cold snap the system would run out of power. The solutions being considered include: bribing energy companies to produce more power, paying for factories to shut down and dimming the lights. All but the final option would lead to more price rises for domestic customers.

The report said: “In the unlikely event that the amount of generation does not meet the amount of demand for a period of time, there are a number of enduring mitigating actions that National Grid can take.”

Teacher Quality, Not Quantity

A NYC charter school makes the case that good teachers matter more than administrators.

Five years ago, a brand-new New York City charter school threw out the playbook. It ditched the administrators and support staff that run rampant in most schools and put the savings toward teacher pay. It turns out that paying fewer employees makes it possible to pay them better — a lot better. Who’d have thought?

The Equity Project (TEP) middle school features teacher salaries of $125,000, with returning teachers receiving a bonus of between 7 and 12 percent (based on school-wide performance). At the same time, the school asks teachers to participate in ongoing training and to shoulder outsize professional responsibilities. Critically, TEP made the numbers work while collecting only the regular funds allocated to any New York City charter school. This model has made it easy for TEP to be highly selective when hiring, to ask teachers to take on additional roles, and to retain its teachers at an unusually high rate.

The results have been impressive. Last week, research firm Mathematica released the first evaluation of TEP. TEP had enrolled its first fifth-grade class in fall 2009; and, in 2013, that first class completed TEP’s eighth grade. Mathematica’s evaluation found that TEP had positive impacts on student achievement across subjects and cohorts, and that the effects were especially large in math. Compared with similar students in New York City public schools, TEP students who attended from grade five to eight gained 1.4 years of math during each of the four years they spent at the school. The gains in English and science were less impressive but still substantial.

Harvard poll: Millennial voters want GOP

'How did the Democrats and Obama screw this up?'

(WASHINGTONEXAMINER) —
Harvard University on Wednesday provided new proof that the Democrats are going to be broadsided in Tuesday’s national elections as millennial voters, in a shocking shift, now prefer a Republican-controlled Congress and give President Obama his second lowest grade ever.

A new and massive poll of 2,029 18- to 29-year-olds from Harvard’s Institute of Politics just released found that of those who say they will “definitely be voting,” 51 percent want the GOP in charge, 47 percent favoring Democratic control.

The unexpected anti-Democratic swing prompted a Canadian Broadcasting Corporation reporter quizzing poll experts on a media conference call to IOP blurted out, “How did the Democrats and Obama screw this up?”

Teen In ICU After Fight Over Shoes At Detroit Charter School

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police say a 16-year-old is clinging to life after getting being attacked by a classmate at his charter school, apparently over a pair of shoes.

The incident happened Wednesday at Allen Academy on Quincy Street, in a northwest neighborhood off of I-96 near Joy Road.

Police say the student, identified in reports as 16-year-old Willie Wallace, was violently attacked by at least one other student. Investigators believe it all stemmed from a previous altercation over a pair of expensive Nike Air Force shoes Wallace was wearing.

Wallace reportedly suffered a seizure, fractured skull, bleeding in his brain, and damage to his chin, cheek and neck in the attack, which went on for about five minutes. He was last reported in critical condition.

The attack apparently started as Wallace was walking down the hallway on his way to class. His mother told reporters that he was sucker-punched before entering the classroom, where other students allegedly joined in the attack.

Meteorologist Mike Seidel Appears To Relieve Himself During Broadcast; Network Says He Was Looking For Phone

The TV news weather forecast appeared to call for yellow snow — but the network says it was not so.

NBC weatherman Mike Seidel missed a live report from snow-blanketed North Carolina on Saturday night because his back was to the camera. And the way he turned around while also on camera — appearing to zip up the fly of his pants before putting his gloves back on — suggested to viewers that he had been relieving himself.

During the telecast anchor Lester Holt said hello to the No. 1 Weather Channel meteorologist who was in Sugar Mountain, but his back was turned to the camera.

Veterinarian's Letter to the Editor re: "Ebola"

The present Ebola crisis in the world is frightening. I have submitted the following letter to the editor of the Lewiston Morning Tribune:

Editor, Lewiston Morning Tribune:

If I wish to import a horse into the United States from Liberia or any African country other than Morocco, the horse needs to undergo a 60 day quarantine period at a USDA approved quarantine facility prior to mingling with the general population of horses in this country. Africa has a disease called African Horse Sickness that does not exist in the US; this is the way we have kept it out of this country. African Horse Sickness does not cause disease in people, only horses; our government has determined that it would be devastating to the US horse industry if it were to come here.

The United States (and virtually all other countries) require a myriad of tests and often quarantine prior to bringing in a foreign animal.

I can’t legally cross state lines in the United States with a horse or cow without a health certificate signed by a USDA accredited veterinarian stating that the animal has been inspected and found free of infectious disease. In most cases blood tests are also required. In fact I can’t legally cross the Snake River and ride my horse in Idaho without a health certificate and a negative blood test for Equine Infectious Anemia.

I’m not complaining; the United States of America, the States of Idaho and Washington as well as the other 48 states take the health of our livestock very seriously, and we have a very good record at keeping foreign animal diseases out of our country. I am happy to do my part to maintain biosecurity in our animal population.

If I am a resident of Liberia incubating Ebola, to enter the United States all I need to do is present a valid visa, and lie when asked if I have been exposed to Ebola. Within hours (no quarantine required) I can be walking the streets of any city in the United States.

I feel very fortunate to live in a country that values our animals so highly.

World Trade Center reopens for business 13 years after 9/11 terrorist attack as first employees move in

Thirteen years after the 9/11 terrorist attack, the resurrected World Trade Center is again opening for business - marking an emotional milestone for both New Yorkers and the nation.

Publishing giant Conde Nast will start moving on Monday into One World Trade Center, a 104-story, $3.9 billion skyscraper that dominates the Manhattan skyline. It is America's tallest building.

It's the centerpiece of the 16-acre site where the decimated twin towers once stood and where more than 2,700 people died on September 11, 2001, buried under smoking mounds of fiery debris.

Obama May Have Been Elected With Illegal Votes

Foreign nationals illegally vote in federal elections in large numbers

A large number of non-citizens cast ballots in U.S. elections and it’s possible that the illegal votes were responsible for President Obama’s 2008 victory, according to an in-depth academic study that confirms Judicial Watch’s assessment that foreign nationals have helped Democrats steal elections.

Non-citizens tend to favor Democrats and Obama won more than 80% of the votes of non-citizens in the 2008 sample gathered by the Cooperative Congressional Election Study (CCES), a large-scale academic survey project operated by teams of researchers from across the country. In fact, enough ineligible voters cast ballots in 2008 to conceivably account for Democratic victories in a few close elections, CCES researchers found. A respected Ivy League professor is coordinator of the CCES which has produced national sample surveys, stratified by state and type of district, in every federal election since 2006. This allows the optimal study of congressional and state races as well as an ideal setting for understanding the relationship between the congressional and presidential elections.

The CCES is an esteemed and highly respected operation that recently published shocking information, gathered from big social science survey datasets, that supports Judicial Watch’s work in this area. In 2012 JW launched the Election Integrity Project, a widespread legal campaign to clean up voter registration rolls and support election integrity measures across the country. Our investigations immediately uncovered data that proved voter rolls in a number of states—including Mississippi, Iowa, Indiana, Missouri, Texas, Florida, California and Colorado—contained the names of individuals who are ineligible to vote.

Well-financed Democrat Lies Won’t Confuse Blacks This Time

Some call the fear and hate ad campaigns being orchestrated by Democratic Party supporters to boost black turnout in next Tuesday’s congressional elections desperation.

I call it pathetic.

The way for a Party to get support is to deliver success. When there is no record of success, lies, distortion, and fear become the operative tools, in hope that uninformed voters will buy the garbage.

Black voters are becoming more politically engaged than ever, which means they are also becoming more politically informed than ever. This is why the sick ads being run on behalf of Democrats in battleground states, designed not to inform but to provoke fear in black voters, are likely to backfire

A flyer being distributed by Georgia’s Democratic Party shows two dark-skinned black children holding a sign saying “Don’t Shoot,” suggesting that somehow voting for Democrat candidate Michelle Nunn will stop a tragedy in Georgia, like the recent shooting of black teenager Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri by a police officer.

Or an ad in North Carolina suggesting that a vote for Democrat Kay Hagan will prevent President Obama from being impeached.

Another in Arkansas shows pictures of blacks in distress and suggests that conservatives are out to strip blacks of their rights and protections under the law.

Probe of FBI Agent Leads To Release Of Convicted Drug Dealers From Prison

An investigation into possible misconduct by an FBI agent has forced authorities to quietly release at least a dozen convicts serving prison sentences for distributing drugs in the District and its suburbs, according to law enforcement officials, court documents and defense attorneys.

In addition, several suspects awaiting trial on drug charges and a man convicted but not yet sentenced have also been freed. Officials said more cases that could involve the agent are under scrutiny, including one involving 21 defendants.

None of the suspects or felons have had their charges dropped or convictions overturned. Most are on home detention in what many of their attorneys describe as a holding pattern, awaiting the outcome of the investigation into the agent, who was assigned to a D.C. police task force.

Proof that Josh Hastings is a tree hugging Democrat

Point & Counterpoint: Hastings - Preserve finite resources, develop greener energy
Preserve finite resources, develop greener energy
Jul. 8, 2013

Written by
Josh Hastings

Fact 1: Coal, oil and natural gas are finite energy sources that will eventually be unavailable or too expensive for extraction and consumption.
Fact 2: The world population officially marked 7 billion in March of 2012; only 12 ½ years prior, the world population reached 6 billion. There is no getting around the fact that we need to invest in renewable energy to supply a rapidly growing world population and meet the demands of our quality of life.
According to a recent forecast by the International Energy Agency, the United States will overtake Saudi Arabia to become the world's biggest oil producer before 2020 and will be energy independent 10 years later. It’s no small notion that energy independence is within our grasp, but that victory is hollow if it isn’t accompanied with a plan that moves the country toward energy sources that aren’t finite.
Personally, I would like to see a future where ardently independent regions like the Eastern Shore embrace that self-sufficient mentality and move toward locally produced energy that doesn’t originate in the Middle East or cause health problems.
The United States should never play catch-up to other countries, but that’s what is happening with alternative energy diversity. Throughout the Caribbean, farms are producing methane gas via biodigestors and using the gas to power biodiesel production. Brazil is heavily investing in sugarcane-based ethanol. Denmark recently put a plan in place for half its energy mix to be generated through offshore wind. Germany, despite cloudy skies, is the world’s leader in solar energy.
In Maryland, we have much to be excited about. Farms, which dominate the Eastern Shore, have the most to gain from renewable energy innovation. Waste-to-energy plants and waste-to-heat options are being explored. If passed next year, the Community Renewable Energy Generation bill would allow multiple neighboring farms to install renewable energy systems and share energy credits — a potential game-changer.
This year, the General Assembly passed the Maryland Offshore Wind Energy Act of 2013, which incentivizes energy development while safeguarding taxpayers. Unlike other energy subsidies, Maryland taxpayers won’t contribute to offshore wind projects until turbines are in place and generating energy. The law states Maryland won’t be liable for cost overruns. To top it off, charges to energy-consuming operations such as poultry farms are capped.
We shouldn’t immediately walk away from our current energy mix, and we won’t transform overnight. Low-cost energy is the key to continued American prosperity and dominance, but let’s make sure we have a plan in place to keep a reserve of finite resources while building toward an energy-independent, conservation-minded grid.
Josh Hastings is policy manager for the Eastern Shore Land Conservancy.

Vote Anderton

I don’t understand how the average person from the lower eastern shore could vote for Delegate Conway. While the average salary of a person lucky enough to have a job is $24,000 a year in Wicomico County, we’ve shown that the Conways make significantly more than that. And that’s just the pay we know about. We don’t know how much the Conways make on their rentals in Delaware, though we do find it odd that he chooses to have business interests that are not affected by his insane tax and spend policies.

Looking through the opinion pieces of the Daily Times it is obvious that western shore style limousine liberals are the ones attempting to keep Norm in office. From the chairman of his campaign Marty Neat, who is a big banker (how many foreclosures Marty?) to the SU President who is making a quarter of a million dollars a year, which is paid for by our taxes. I’d suggest that Mr. Neat keep an eye on his bank's troubled asset ratio* (see link at bottom) and President Eshbach has bigger fish to fry in trying to keep her students safe.

While Conway’s spokespeople leave a lot to be desired, his own record shows a disastrous term. During the great recession, while even Neat and Eshbach were cutting back on caviar and champagne, Norm Conway was voting to take more money out of your wallet to pay for things you might never use. Like the Montgomery County collector road. Or a putt-putt golf course in Montgomery County. And if he is re-elected he’ll be voting to spend about $7 billion on light rail systems that we will pay for and the people in DC and Baltimore will use.
So while the good people of the eastern shore are suffering. While our families are being put out of work and having our homes taken from us, Norm continues to create state debt and tax all of us more. What a hard-hearted out-of-touch politician Norm must be.

I know, he’s a nice guy. He is. I’ve talked to him and he seems nice. But how in the world do you justify these policies and spending and not see the impact? How long can we vote for a guy and allow him to be called “nice” when he does so much harm to our friends and families?

When you go to the voting booth think about the foreclosures that have not only happened under the watch of Delegate Conway, but he’s had a direct hand in by raising the price to live on the eastern shore. Think about the jobs we used to have. SBYNEWS has been the source to document all of the lost jobs in this area. All of them have happened while Norm Conway was our representative. And now he is still telling everyone that he is “fighting” for jobs. I encourage you to see through the lies of Conway and his followers. They are scared to death that their guy is going to lose. And they should be.

Vote Carl Anderton for Delegate. Vote for jobs. Vote for tax cuts. Vote for less government spending.

The election for Delegate in 38B

The O’Malley-Conway team has already voted to create or increase taxes or fees on the following taxes, which are listed with an explanation by the state:

Rain- yes, here in Maryland we tax the free stuff that god blesses our crops with so that we can all eat. So take an umbrella out, but make sure your check is in the mail.

Bingo- because the state of Maryland can’t possibly allow our families or elderly enjoy a wholesale game of bingo without getting in on the action.

Birth certificate- here is what the state is saying with this fee that they voted to double, “ it’s a wonderful time in your life, now PAY ME”

Death certificate- here is what the state is saying with this fee that they voted to double, “ it’s a terrible time in your life. Someone you know just died. Now PAY ME”

Fishing license- we know that we’ve taxed you to the point where you cannot afford a lot of food, so as you turn to your trusty fishing rod remember that you have to pay us first. And you’ll be paying us more thanks to the O’Malley-Conway team.

Tobacco tax- are there any places left that we allow you to smoke? If so, we’ll have to work on that. While you are enjoying your smoke, remember that we’ll be raising the tobacco tax again this year. Especially with the help of Delegate Conway, who is sponsored by anti-smoking activists.

Liquor tax- I know, you’ve been running to Delaware for booze, but soon we’re going to crack down on this activity. Dodging taxes by going to a more consumer friendly state should be punishable by prison. And a fine. And a tax on the fine. Regardless, the O'Malley-Conway team expect your liquor taxes to use for their out-of-control spending. How else will they be able to charge a Baltimore mass transit rider $1/ride for a ride that costs the state $3? How will the state be able to subsidize Baltimore if you don't do your fair share and pay for it?
If you’ve made it this far, I hope you enjoyed our list. We’re having a little fun in an attempt to laugh at the madness of Delegate Conway and his obsession with raising our taxes.Though we are having a bit of fun, I hope you realize how serious this election is.

Please make time to vote for Carl Anderton for Delegate. And while you are at it vote for Mike McDermott for Senate and Larry Hogan for Governor. Don’t pick and choose on these three. Hogan needs good people like McDermott and Anderton in the General Assembly to get things done.

Four Tips for Military Appreciation

My spouse works his tail end off for his country, not to mention risking his life and leaving his family behind for months at a time. So it’s pretty great when people who are not in the military recognize his service. He finds it a little embarrassing, but sometimes I secretly plot ways for us to run errands right after he gets off work and before he has time to change out of his uniform just so that I can hear people thank him for his service. It’s heartwarming.

And then there are the little kids. Even in a town with a huge military population like this one, you still run across awe-struck kiddos who think being a soldier is the coolest thing on planet earth. I love seeing them stare while they say to their parents “look, it’s a SOLDIER!”

Servicemembers and military spouses sometimes complain that America is not grateful enough for their service. Other times we question the way civilians express their gratefulness.

But I wonder if poorly expressed thanks (or no thanks at all) is at least partially due to a lack of knowledge. Like being invited to a party with no idea what to bring the birthday boy, they buy the best thing they can think of. And sometimes it just isn’t right.

So we’re here to give a little guidance. Dear civilians, here are some of our top military appreciation ideas:

Skip the sympathy — give gratitude. Military members don’t want you to feel sorry for them. We chose this life and we are happy to serve. So instead of saying “I’m sorry,” say “Thank you!” Encouraging words make us beam with pride.

If your business offers a discount, publicize it. Even though we aren’t looking for handouts, we understand that many businesses want to say “thank you” by giving us a percentage off our purchase. That’s fabulous – thank you! If it’s a secret discount, however, that only some military members know about it feels more like an advertising gimmick than anything else. Why not let all your cliental know that you appreciate the military? Consider posting a sign. Not only will you be spreading the appreciation love, but more military members will have a chance to find out about the discount and use it.

How Michelle Obama's old block became the most dangerous stretch of road in Chicago

A block on Chicago’s South Side that first lady Michelle Obama once called home is now regarded as the most dangerous stretch of road in one of the country’s most dangerous cities.

The 6400 block of South Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, which includes the sprawling Parkway Gardens low-income apartment complex, has been christened O Block in recent years by the gang members who regularly fight for control of its streets and courtyards.

The O stands for 20-year-old Odee Perry, a member of the Chicago Black Disciples gang, who was shot dead in 2011 - just one of 19 people shot on O Block between June 2011 and June 2014.

7 Things Every American Should Know About Military Families

Hello, America. It means a lot to military families to have the entire month of November set aside for National Military Family Appreciation Month.

Over the last 13 years, you have seen military families like mine send our loved ones off to war. You have seen us welcome home our darlings. You have seen us pack up and move with them (again). Or stand by them after an injury. Or even lay them to rest.

But do you really know military families? A Pew Research report said that 71 percent of Americans admitted that the public doesn’t understand the problems faced by those in the military.

Be Here Tuesday Night

Being one of the most important elections many of us have ever experienced on the Shore, Salisbury News will once again be delivering accurate election results in real time.

Tavis Smiley: Peter Denied Jesus Fewer Times Than Grimes Denied Obama

PBS talk show host Tavis Smiley says minorities need to re-evaluate the Democratic Party before blindly supporting it especially since so many of its candidates are quick to run away from President Barack Obama, the titular head of the party.

Appearing Sunday on "Face the Nation," Smiley said Democrats are quick to call out an SOS to black and Hispanic voters as soon as their candidates are in danger and need minority votes, but he said the party has done little to inspire African-Americans and Hispanics to turn out to vote in Tuesday's midterms.

Smiley called the appeals to minorities disrespectful and demeaning. He noted what some have called race-baiting flyers being sent out in North Carolina and Georgia that imply more incidents of violence against blacks would occur if Republicans are elected. The flyers point to the Trayvon Martin and Ferguson, Missouri killings.

8 Desperation Moves from Democrats That Show They'll Be Crushed on Tuesday

On Friday, Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA), in an act of pure political desperation, has now labeled her own constituency racist and sexist. “I’ll be very, very honest with you,” Landrieu said. “The South has not always been the friendliest place for African-Americans. It’s been a difficult time for the president to present himself in a very positive light as leader.” The goal: drive out the black vote, the same way President Obama did in 2012.

Landrieu then added that the South is “more of a conservative place” and said that women have a problem “presenting ourselves.” The goal: driving out the female vote, the same way President Obama did in 2012.

Mary Landrieu has been in office since 1979. So for three decades, the people of Louisiana weren’t sexist enough to oust her, but now, apparently, their latent woman-hatred has come to the fore.

But Landrieu isn’t the only desperate Democrat pulling out all the stops in the late stages of a failing campaign. Here are seven others:

Charlie Rangel. On Thursday, the Democratic representative from New York performed his act at a rally for New York Governor:

We have to win!...Everything we believe in – everything we believe in – they hate. They don’t disagree – they hate! They think if you didn’t come from Europe 30 years ago, you didn’t even make it. Some of them believe that slavery isn’t over and they think they won the Civil War!

Rangel added that Democrats are doing “God’s work.”

Maryland Democratic Party. Earlier this month, the Maryland Democratic Party issued fliers on behalf of Anthony Brown, reading “Vote for Anthony Brown as Maryland’s first African-American Governor. History is watching to see if we vote.” The mailer shows a sign reading “Colored Waiting Room” and another one reading “Must Show ID to Vote.” And, just for good measure, a sign that reads “Go Back to Africa Negroes.” Another flier shows Ferguson, Missouri.

Md. Candidates For Governor Get Help During Campaign

It was an electric crowd of Larry Hogan supporters rallying in Baltimore. As the race for governor winds down, the Republican candidate is being backed by New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, who made a stop in Charm City to show his support.

Rochelle Ritchie has more.

It was a packed house at the Patapsco Hall on Annapolis Road. There were strong words for a confident Larry Hogan and a passionate Governor Chris Christie; they say Brown is going down.

There wasn’t a boo in the crowd as Larry Hogan and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie took the stage in Baltimore as the clock winds down to Election Day.

Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama hit by hecklers at separate speeches

First Hillary Clinton, then Michelle Obama. Both of the Democratic Party’s leading ladies were heckled while giving speeches at separate campaign events this week — not a good sign in the lead-up to an Election Day that’s already expected to go Republican.

The former secretary of state was repeatedly interrupted while campaigning for Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown in Maryland on Thursday, MSNBC reported.

She was speaking in favor of Mr. Brown’s candidacy when apparently, several in the crowd identified by MSNBC as immigration activists just couldn’t take any more of her talk. They repeatedly cut in to her remarks, trying to force her to explain her views of the DREAM Act, an amnesty program being pushed by Democrats.

A Country Run By...

1. If you can get arrested for fishing without a license, but not for being in the country illegally, you live in a country run by idiots.

2. If you have to get your parents’ permission to go on a field trip or take an aspirin in school, but not to get an abortion, you live in a country run by idiots.

3. If you have to show identification to board an airplane, cash a check, buy liquor or check out a library book, but not to vote on who runs the government, you live in a country run by idiots.

4. If the government wants to ban stable, law-abiding citizens from owning gun magazines with more than ten rounds, but gives 20 F-16 fighter jets to the crazy leaders in Egypt, you live in a country run by idiots.

5. If, in the largest city, you can buy two 16-ounce sodas, but not a 24-ounce soda because 24-ounces of a sugary drink might make you fat, you live in a country run by idiots.

6. If an 80-year-old woman can be stripped searched by the TSA but a woman in a hijab is only subject to having her neck and head searched, you live in a country run by idiots.

7. If your government believes that the best way to eradicate trillions of dollars of debt is to spend trillions more, you live in a country run by idiots.

8. If a seven year old boy can be thrown out of grade school for saying his teacher’s “cute,” but hosting a sexual exploration or diversity class in grade school is perfectly acceptable, you live in a country run by idiots.

9. If hard work and success are met with higher taxes and more government intrusion, while not working is rewarded with EBT cards, WIC checks, Medicaid, subsidized housing and free cell phones, you live in a country run by idiots.

10. If the government’s plan for getting people back to work is to incentivize NOT working, with 99 weeks of unemployment checks and no requirement to prove they applied but can’t find work, you live in a country run by idiots.

11. If being stripped of the ability to defend yourself makes you more “safe” according to the government, you live in a country run by idiots.

Dirty tricks show how Brown would govern if elected

In re-reading your less-than-enthusiastic endorsement of Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown for governor, I was shocked by your claim that "Mr. Brown is well versed in all aspects of state government," coming as it did after an earlier passage in which you pointed out "the strikingly dishonest campaign he has run" ("Brown for governor," Oct. 25).

As a supporter Larry Hogan for governor, I strongly urge Democrats to really look into the mirror and ask themselves a simple question: Do you really want someone as dishonest and desperate as Mr. Brown leading our state?

If the answer is no, cross over and vote for Mr. Hogan — or simply write in anyone else worthy of your vote. The dirty tactics employed by the Brown campaign are indicative of how he would run the state. We deserve better than that.

Where's the Wicomico County Ethics Commission?

Two weeks ago we reported a blatant breach of the ethics law by the County's public information officer, who circulated material from Anthony Brown's campaign for the obvious purpose of denigrating Larry Hogan. In her e-mail the PIO, who is a member of County Executive Pollitt's staff, said that she had been "requested" to forward the material. She did not identify the person who made that request. Mr. Pollitt is Brown's local campaign manager.

Some months ago, it was disclosed that Mr. Pollitt has used his County credit card to buy groceries and multiple meals, and also that the car provided by the County to another member of his staff has been used for personal trips.

Why hasn't the Ethics Commission at least investigate these matters? What does it take to get that body to do something to clean up the ethical cesspool that Wicomico County has become?

FYI – the members of the Ethics Commission are appointed by the County Executive, subject to confirmation by the County Council.

It's Very Simple Ladies & Gentlemen

Don't you believe for one second that ANY candidate is a slam dunk in this election.

Each and every one of us need to get out and VOTE. YOU do have the POWER to make your lives much better and STOP allowing these Liberals to continue taxing and spending.

The Liberal Machine is using social media and hundreds of millions of dollars to try to keep their seats. They are LYING in a very big way and YOU have the opportunity to STOP them.

There are very bright lights at the end of the tunnel but only YOU can make it become a reality. This is NOT about a Republican win. This is about lowering your taxes. This is about stopping a rain tax. This is about truly doing everything we can to create real jobs and not just words we've been hearing for the past 8 years.

Seriously Ladies & Gentlemen, just look back at the Jobs Report for Wicomico County and the entire Eastern Shore. Look back at the taxes and fees. Travel over the Bay Bridge and just hand them your heard earned cash, for no reason at all.

Mathias has LIED in his commercials, even using his deceased Wife and children as a ploy to get a sympathy vote. Well, where was he when his Wife was alive. He shouldn't be REACTIVE. He should have been PROACTIVE! Yeah, NO ONE will go there but tens of thousands of you who have seen that commercial have been thinking the same exact thing. SHAMEFUL! DESPERATE!

Some have attempted to try and say Mike McDermott is double dipping and that he voted for his own pay raise. Completely untrue. Funny how Mathias works for Royal Plus and uses his position to travel around the country whenever a disaster hits and selling the Insurance Companies and Municipalities on the services of Royal Plus as a State Senator. How ethical is that? McDermott does not abuse his power.

As for Rick Pollitt and Norm Conway, JUST LOOK AT THE LACK OF JOBS! Conway isn't bringing jobs to the Shore. In fact, raising the Tolls on the Bay Bridge is discouraging people from coming here, especially trucking companies who bring FOOD and SUPPLIES. Do you really think these companies are eating these additional expenses. YOU pay more for goods every time they raise fees.

We have shown you for YEARS all of the For Rent and For Sale signs throughout Wicomico County. EIGHT YEAR IS ENOUGH! To watch ALL of the Liberal Leaders now in Office saying their top priority is JOBS, are you kidding me!

The Liberals top priority is to RAISE YOUR TAXES. Four more years of this crap and every one of you will be calling your Parents and asking if you can come back home. Just ask Josh Hastings. Here's a guy who allegedly lives with his Parents and doesn't even own a home in Wicomico County. Look at Laura Mitchell, living in affordable housing and on public assistance.

As for Brown, well, many of you voted for Obama and O'Malley, do you really want four more years of the same? Hogan is a very successful businessman who has the kind of Leadership Maryland desperately needs.

Are Wicomico County voters really this stupid? I guess we'll know better tomorrow night, won't we. I believe we'll see a clean sweep for Republicans because Enough is Enough.

Opinion: Maryland Elected Officials Take Motorists For Granted

When it comes to motorist issues, Maryland is suffering from a serious case of "entitled incumbent syndrome". As motorists sit idle in traffic, there seem to be no concrete proposals for improving the situation.

In the past four years we've seen the legislature pass an 80% increase in the state gas tax, most of which will be phased in after the coming election. And other driving costs, such as vehicle registration fees, have roughly doubled as well. Yet it appears that most of this money is tagged to go towards transit projects, and maintenance of existing roads, with few if any new roads or bridges scheduled to address chronic deficiencies in our road network anywhere in the state.

State Lawmakers diverted a billion dollars from the transportation trust fund to fix budget shortfalls. Now we are told to vote for a "locked box" ballot question (which motorists SHOULD vote for, even though it is an imperfect protection, since we have no better option available to us at this time) in order to save us from similar diversions in the future. But wouldn't it be so much better if we had a legislature committed to keeping it's promises to the driving public in the first place, rather than having a new promise they might still look for some way to break in a pinch?

A Letter To The Editor 11-3-14

Look at how Laura Mitchell's campaign email shows like it is coming from Gamee Elliott. Typical deception of the Democrats.

How did Laura Mitchell hijack all these email addresses to use for her campaign? This is the same thing that Jim Ireton did in his last election. I would venture to guess that Laura Mitchell and Jim Ireton stole these email addresses from the City of Salisbury email database.

This email was sent out by campaigner.com and it is very expensive. They just didn't come up with emails from out of cyberspace and I am quite confident Laura Mitchell doesn't have that many worthwhile email addresses to pay off using that company. She is not my friend and I have never ever sent her an email. Again Laura Mitchell, Jim Ireton and the local Democrats are using corruption to win an election.

‘You’re Teaching Your Children to Hate!’: Anti-Redskins Rally Outside NFL Stadium Features Fiery Words

The action at the Redskins-Vikings game started Sunday morning outside the stadium in Minnesota, as a crowd estimated by organizers around 5,000 rallied against Washington’s divisive nickname.

The event began with a march through the University of Minnesota campus to TCF Bank Stadium, where Native American leaders, local politicians, former sports stars and other speakers voiced their disdain for Redskins owner Dan Snyder and his refusal to change the nickname they’ve derided as derogatory and racist.

As the rally got going, a group paraded and chanted, “Hey, hey, ho, ho, this racist name has got to go!”

One anti-Redskins protester was seen on video standing behind a gate calling out phrases to Redskins fans as they walked by: “You’re teaching your children to hate! Indians are people!” she said to one man passing by with a child. To others she said, “Your racism isn’t welcome here” as they strolled past her:
