WAY TO GO DAILY TIMES!!!

"The Wicomico County public schools district was ineffective in accounting for and safeguarding assets, as well as inefficient in its use of financial resources to the point it cost an overage of at least $3 million, according to an audit by the state Office of Legislative Audits"

I see they used our bullet point style presentation as well but no matter, (so far) it is important the rest of the media follow suit on this matter. Time will tell what they say in tomorrow's paper but for right now, my hat is tipped to The Daily Times for presenting this extremely serious matter to the public. That has always been my goal with Salisbury News. We invite you to GO HERE and view their story.

Friday Is A 24 Hour News Day

It's been an incredible day today, thank you. In less than 10 hours we achieved more than 160 comments on a Post I predicted would skyrocket in comments. I truly hope the majority of you read the actual audit and if you have, well, your not too happy with the Board of Education in Wicomico County.

You're going to see a LOT of articles tomorrow. Be here early in the morning because we'll have some very interesting LOCAL news.

"He had a good, long life," his son said.

Six People Charged in ‘One of the Most Disturbing Crimes’ Police Chief Has Ever Seen

Wisconsin authorities have now arrested and charged six individuals in connection with a horrifying crime that took place last month.

According to Madison police, three individuals, who were executing a planned home invasion, broke into the wrong home on Feb. 23. However, while the suspects were aware that they were at the incorrect residence, they didn’t leave, WKOW-TV reported.

Instead, police say the suspects violently attacked the two individuals sleeping in the home and repeatedly sexually assaulted the woman, who was six months pregnant. The attack lasted 40 to 50 minutes, authorities said, according to the Journal Sentinel.

Holder Wants Shorter Prison Terms

Attorney General Eric Holder will speak later this morning in support of shorter prison sentences for some nonviolent drug traffickers.

He'll endorse a change before the U.S. Sentencing Commission that could reduce the average drug trafficking sentence by 11 months and cut federal prison rolls by more than 6,500 inmates over the next five years.

Holder will say the harshest penalties should be reserved for "dangerous and violent drug traffickers." But he may stay mum on identity thieves.

The nation's top lawyer is the latest victim of tax return fraud. Federal prosecutors say two Atlanta men filed a tax return using Holder's name, birthday and social security number. Holder was among at least 10 victims.

Prosecutors say the defendants got their victims' information from publicly available websites.

Study: Income Inequality Greater, Growing Faster in Blue States

President Obama has said that reducing the growing gap between high and low income earners is one of his top domestic priorities. But a new study finds that residents of states that voted for Obama in 2012 “are experiencing more income inequality than people in other states.”

“Income inequality is worse in blue states, and has also grown more quickly in those areas over the past 10 years,” according to the study, entitled “Blue states have the income-inequality blues,” by Richard Barrington, senior financial analyst at MoneyRates.com.

Integrating Female Marines Into Combat Roles

The Marine Corps solicits volunteers to test ways of integrating female Marines into combat roles. The human research experiment will involve 460 Marines stationed at Camp Lejeune, N.C. A quarter of them will be women. Over the course of a year, they'll train for combat and mountain warfighting in simulated battle environments. Brig. Gen. George Smith says the Corps needs to test female performance beyond entry-level tasks. The Pentagon has ordered services to let women serve in combat by 2016.

Adam And Eve

When God created
Adam and Eve, He said:
I only have two gifts:
One is the art of peeing standing ...
And then Adam stepped forward and shouted:
ME!, ME!, ME!,
I would love it please ... Lord, please, please!
Look, it will make my life substantially easier.
Eve nodded, and said those things did not matter to her.
Then God gave Adam the gift and he began to shout for joy.
He ran through the garden of Eden and used it to wet all the trees and
bushes, ran down the beach making drawings with his pee in the sand ...
Well, he would not stop showing off.
God and Eve watched the man crazy with happiness and Eve asked God:
What is the other gift? '
God answered:
Eve,..... a brain ... and it is for you ...!

Share with those women who u want to give a smile ..... and open-minded men !!

Florida Loss Exposes Democrats' Disarray On Obamacare

Democrats can’t even agree whether Obamacare was the reason for their crushing loss in a Florida special election Tuesday.

Now picture how their messaging plan for the health care law is shaping up for 2014.

Republican lobbyist David Jolly’s victory over Democrat Alex Sink has many Democrats privately worried and publicly split about how to talk about Obamacare.

A few Democrats are advocating a drastic rhetorical shift to the left, by criticizing their own party for not going far enough when it passed the law in 2010.

Other Democrats plan to sharply criticize the Affordable Care Act when running for re-election.

Europe Says US-Made Cheeses Can't Use Old World Names

Errico Auricchio produced cheese with his family in Italy until he brought his trade to the United States more than 30 years ago. Now, the European Union is saying his cheese isn't authentic enough to carry a European name.

As part of trade talks, the EU wants to ban the use of names like Parmesan, feta and Gorgonzola on cheese made in the United States. The argument is that the American-made cheeses are shadows of the original European varieties and cut into sales and identity of the European cheeses.

Auricchio, president of Wisconsin-based BelGioioso Cheese Inc., says he has no idea what he would call his Parmesan if he had to find a new name.

"I Can't Believe It's Not Parmesan," he jokes.

Lincoln And The Gettysburg Gospel

It has been called "the Gettysburg Gospel" because Abraham Lincoln's 271-word speech in 1863 is a key document in the creation of "civil religion" in America. Ronald Beiner, a professor of political science at the University of Toronto, defined "civil religion" as "the appropriation of religion by politics for its purposes." It occurs when a state uses religious concepts, rhetoric, rituals and symbolism to champion nationalism and other values it wishes to embed. The values then rise to the status of sacred doctrine and questioning them becomes blasphemy.

The Gettysburg Address is rife with biblical-style language and sentiment. In his 2009 book, Lincoln's Gettysburg Address: Echoes of the Bible and Book of Common Prayer, A.E. Elmore persuasively argues that Lincoln consciously drew upon both the Bible and the Episcopal Book of Common Prayer. For example, the address opens with the words "Four score and seven years ago"; this echoes Psalm 90:10, which states the lifespan of human beings as "threescore years and ten." The address closes with the words "government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth." John 3:16 states that "who so ever believeth in him [Christ] shall not perish but have everlasting life." What "shall not perish" is "this nation, under God"which substitutes for Christ. Lincoln stated that the nation would continue because "the brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it." And from the "honored dead," Lincoln called for the living to "take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion."

Catholic Group Sues HHS over ACA

A group of nearly 200 Catholic employers filed a new lawsuit in Oklahoma against the federal government Wednesday, hoping to stop parts of the federal health care law that force them to provide insurance that covers contraceptives.

The recently formed Catholic Benefits Association, which includes archdioceses, an insurance company and a nursing home, takes issue with a compromise in the Affordable Health Care Act offered by the Obama administration that attempted to create a buffer for religiously affiliated hospitals, universities and social service groups that oppose birth control. The law requires insurers or the health plan's outside administrator to pay for birth control coverage and creates a way to reimburse them.

Baltimore Archbishop William Lori is chairman of the association's board of directors.

Wicomico County’s Department of Recreation, Parks & Tourism FY13 Annual Report Released

Salisbury, MD – Wicomico County’s Department of Recreation, Parks & Tourism announced the completion of its 34th annual report this week. The report clearly outlines the successes and challenges of the past 2013 fiscal year as well as current year goals for the department’s four main divisions including recreation, parks, tourism and the civic center.

The Department of Recreation, Parks and Tourism strives to provide high quality events and programs, to preserve unique natural resources, to acquire, develop and maintain park land and recreation facilities and to market the County for the purpose of attracting visitors. The average Eastern Shore County in Maryland subsidizes just its recreation and parks department at a cost of $17.88 per citizen. Wicomico County operates its entire Recreation, Parks & Tourism Department (including the WY&CC) for only $15.65 per citizen, making it the lowest on the shore.

The FY13 Annual Report outlines efforts undertaken to continue operations and demonstrates the positive economic impact generated for the community. A few highlights:

Maryland Posts Second-Highest Foreclosure Rate In Nation

Maryland’s foreclosure rate remained one of the highest in the nation last month, but there are some signs the situation is starting to improve, according to a new monthly report.

One in every 557 housing units in the state reported a foreclosure filing in February, up about 30 percent from a year ago, second only to Florida and almost double the national average, according to data from information firm RealtyTrac, which tracks the filings.

Baltimore-Towson had the third highest foreclosure rate of the major metro areas behind Tampa-St. Petersburg and Miami-Fort Lauderdale in Florida, with one in every 580 units with a foreclosure filing, the report found.

Online State Sales Tax Solution Remains Elusive After Congress Declares ‘Fundamental Defects’ In Senate Bill

After years of attempts to craft a federal law that would affirm states’ rights to tax online purchases, the issue may still be far from being resolved. The House Judiciary Committee has put the brakes on the Marketplace Fairness Act passed by the Senate in May.

On Wednesday, prospects for federal action to resolve the long-standing issue of whether states should be able to collect sales tax on Internet purchases faded after members of Congress said more debate was needed before legislation could move forward, Reuters reports.

The Marketplace Fairness Act would have granted each state the ability to decide whether online businesses need to collect the tax.

Why The Wealth Effect Doesn’t Work

Across all financial media, between both political parties, and among most mainstream economists, the “wealth effect” is noted, promoted, and touted. The refrain is constant and the message seemingly simple: by increasing people wealth through rising stock and housing prices, the populace will increase their consumer spending which will spur economic growth. Its acceptance is as widespread as its justification is important, for it provides the rationale for the Federal Reserve’s unprecedented monetary expansion since 2008. While critics may dispute the wealth effect’s magnitude, few have challenged its conceptual soundness. Such is the purpose of this article. The wealth effect is but a mantra without merit.

The overarching pervasiveness of wealth effect acceptance is not wholly surprising, for it is a perfect blend of the Monetarist and Keynesian Schools. While its exact parentage and origin appears uncertain, its godfather is surely Milton Friedman who published his permanent income theory of consumption in 1957. In bifurcating disposable income into “transitory” and “permanent” income, Friedman argued the latter dictates our spending and consists of our expected income in perpetuity. If consumer spending is generated by expected income, then surely it must also be supported by current wealth?

But this may or may not be true. It will vary across time, place, and among various economic actors whose decisions about consumer spending are dictated by their time preferences. And time preferences — the degree to which an individual favors a good or service today (consumption) relative to future enjoyment — take into account far more variables than the current, unrealized wealth reported in brokerage statements and housing appraisals.

Lois Lerner’s Lies And Cover-Up Revealed

Former IRS mandarin Lois Lerner orchestrated an unprecedented crackdown on Tea Party and conservative groups and then attempted to scapegoat those nonprofits, blaming them for the harsh treatment they received at her instigation, according to a damning report released yesterday by congressional investigators.

The report came out six days after Lerner appeared before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee under subpoena and for a second time refused to testify about IRS targeting of right-of-center 501c4 nonprofit advocacy groups during the 2010 and 2012 election cycles. (The full report is available in PDF form at the committee’s website.) At the March 5 hearing, which was a continuation of a hearing started last year, Lerner again opted to invoke her Fifth Amendment privilege against self-incrimination.

Worshipping The Badged And Costumed Ones

“Get on the ground! Get on the ground!”

That demand is spat by police into the face of thousands of people every day in this country, many – perhaps most — of whom have neither been caught in a criminal act nor have been named on an arrest warrant. The refrain is recited by home invaders in paramilitary garb after they have kicked in a door, usually as a follow-up to an attack with a flash-bang grenade.

It is often performed as a prelude to Taser strikes, baton blows, or other punitive violence used against people who refuse to render immediate and unqualified obedience.

Once the victim is forced to the ground, the familiar liturgy continues as the assailants chant “Stop resisting! Stop resisting!” as counterpoint to punches, kicks, and other varieties of state-licensed criminal violence.

Kittleman Accuses Miller Of Abusing His Power

Sen. Allan Kittleman called it a show of “the arrogance of power” when Senate President Mike Miller ruled he was in violation of the “single subject” rule for legislation. In the end, their fellow senators supported Miller’s ruling and not Kittleman.

The confrontation came when Kittleman, a Howard County Republican, tried to amend a bill about scholarships to remove the power of each senator to award $138,000 in legislative scholarship each year. Kittleman has repeatedly tried to remove this bit of patronage by legislation, since the senators are in complete control over who receives the financial aid, with no checks on how the decisions are made.

The amendment came during discussion of SB785, a bill designed to overhaul the Community College Transfer Scholarship. The bill dealt with issues such as what institutions the scholarship could be used at, qualifications for the scholarship, and the specific amount of the award.

The Two Numbers That Should Terrify Democrats Of A GOP Takeover

A new poll contains some worrying signs for Democrats, one night after a crucial special election loss in Florida's 13th district.

The Wall Street Journal/NBC poll found President Barack Obama to be a potential drag on Democratic candidates in the midterm elections this November.

Two numbers, in particular, stand out:
33 percent of respondents said their vote this November would serve as a show of opposition against the president. Only 24 percent said their vote would signal support.
More troublesome: 48 percent of respondents said they'd be less likely to vote for a "solid supporter" of the Obama administration, compared with only 26 percent who said they'd be more likely to vote for such a candidate.

The Gun Is Civilization

Human beings only have two ways to deal with one another: reason and force. If you want me to do something for you, you have a choice of either convincing me via argument or forcing me to do your bidding under threat of force. Every human interaction falls into one of those two categories, without exception.
Reason or force, that’s it.

In a truly moral and civilized society, people exclusively interact through persuasion. Force has no place as a valid method of social interaction and the only thing that removes force from the menu is the personal firearm, as paradoxical as it may sound to some.

When I carry a gun, you cannot deal with me by force. You have to use reason and try to persuade me, because I have a way to negate your threat or employment of force.

The gun is the only personal weapon that puts a 100-pound woman on equal footing with a 220-pound mugger, a 75-year old retiree on equal footing witha19-year old gang banger, and a single guy on equal footing with a car load of drunken guys with baseball bats.

The gun removes the disparity in physical strength, size, or numbers between a potential attacker and a defender.

Final Goal Of The Surveillance State

Surveillance is coming at us from all angles. Chips, drones, TSA checkpoints, smart meters, back-doored electronic products, video cameras, spying home appliances; our phone calls and emails and keystrokes and product purchases are recorded.

The government and its allied corporations will know whatever they want to know about us.

What then?

What happens when all nations are blanketed from stem to stern with surveillance?

Public utilities, acting on government orders, will be able to allot electricity in amounts and at times it wishes to. This is leading to an overarching plan for energy distribution to the entire population.

Claiming shortages and limited options, governments will essentially be redistributing wealth, in the form of energy, under a collectivist model.

Dems Can't Run On Obamacare And Can't Hide From It Either

Some Democrats hope to minimize the importance of Obamacare as a political issue by focusing on other topics in this November's midterm elections. Some hope to win by promising to fix the flawed nationalhealth care plan they passed in 2010. And others hope to turn the issue on Republicans by appealing to voters who have been helped by the law.

The problem is, none of that will work. The importance of Obamacare as an issue in November 2014 cannot be controlled by either political party. It will be determined by just one thing, and that is the performance of Obamacare as a law in the months preceding the election.

Dueling Bills Aim To Help Illegal Immigrants Or To Punish Them

State lawmakers are considering bills that would decide whether local police should help the federal government detain suspected illegal immigrants for deportation.

Two delegates from opposite parties are advocating two completely different approaches to address how extensively local law enforcement agencies should cooperate with a federal program that identifies people for deportation as soon as they are arrested.

Since 2008, local law agencies across the nation have served as an arm of Secure Communities, a federal program that results in hundreds of thousands of deportations every year, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) estimates.

Local agencies are required to participate in the program by sending fingerprints of arrestees to immigration officials, but they are not required to honor immigrant detainers issued by ICE that allow local police to hold a suspected illegal immigrant for 48 hours.

How Long Does This Go On Before There's A Currency Crisis?

How’s this for irony -

In our modern monetary system, the term ‘fiat currency’ refers to this absurd notion of paper currency that is conjured out of thin air by central bankers and backed by nothing but hollow promises.

‘Fiat’ is a subjunctive conjugation of the Latin verb ‘fi?’; literally translated, it means “let it be” as in “Let there be light.”

Or in this case… ‘let there be paper money,’ which pretty much crystalized the absurdity of our monetary system.

Former Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke summed this up nicely in a 60 Minutes interview he gave a few years ago in which he said, “We can raise interest rates in 15 minutes. . .”

And he was right. Central bankers can change interest rates whenever they want.

A Comment Worthy Of A Post

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "State Of The City Address":

Anon 6:10, how many jobs has Joe Albero brought here?

Right, NONE!

Publishers Notes: Absolutely AMAZING!

Now all of a sudden the dwindling economy is some how my fault! I was the ONLY one running for Office who had an economic development plan. I NEVER threatened to shut down ANY business that had two nuisance calls in a two year period.

I introduced numerous plans on how to bring businesses to Salisbury and Wicomico County. I showed a sure way of how the Downtown Plaza could absolutely be revitalized and draw in people from all over the state.

I will NOT stand for Wet Pants Liberals making such statements, (above) as NOTHING Jim Ireton is doing will work. It will for the short run but you wait three years and see who is left standing Downtown.

Salisbury citizens are no different than a battered wife who is in denial and refuses to leave. One day each citizen will realize they can't take it any more and give up everything just to get away from the abuse.

I'll repeat from WBOC all day and night. "Albero is up two to one over Ireton". Ireton wins, two to one. YOU figure out what happened, or remain battered.

The Story Behind The Shoot Down Of 'Extortion 17' - Part 1

Most people know SEAL Team 6 killed Osama bin Laden, but few know what happened afterwards, and why.

On Aug. 6 2011, members of SEAL Team 6 engaged in another covert raid in Afghanistan. As they approached the drop zone, Taliban forces attacked using rocket propelled grenades. The CH-47 carrying the SEALS with the call-sign “Extortion 17″ was was hit by one of the rockets tearing off ten and a half feet of one of its main rotor blades. Extortion 17 crashed, killing 30 Americans and eight Afghans. It is the single largest one day loss of life in the history of Naval Special Warfare division and of the entire 12-year Afghanistan campaign. One of those aboard was US Navy SEAL Aaron Vaughn.

Now his parents Karen and Billy Vaughn are speaking out about what happened and the catalog of errors that led to the downing of Extortion 17.

Two Maryland Teen Girls Bullied Apparent Autistic Boy, Authorities Say

Two teenage girls in southern Maryland bullied an apparently autistic 16-year-old boy into performing sexual acts and crashing through pond ice in episodes they captured on cellphone video, authorities said Wednesday.

The girls, ages 17 and 15, threatened the teen with a knife, kicked him in the groin and dragged him around by his hair, said St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Cara Grumbels. They coerced him into walking on a partially frozen pond and then refused to help him out of the frigid water, she said.

Grumbles said the boy got out himself, but the prank could have turned deadly.

Equal Rights vs. Special Privileges

One of the major evils of the welfare state in libertarian eyes is that it destroys the concept of objective law (i.e., equal rights under the law) throughout society. This is because the welfare state is based upon the violation of individual rights in order to convey privileges to special interest groups. All primary policies of state welfarism entail such a violation and conveyance. This is why justice can never be achieved under a welfare state philosophy, liberal or conservative.

Government's job is to protect rights, not violate them. Its laws must be applied equally, which means no privileges. Yet we are taught today that government conveyance of privileges to special interest groups will bring us a just society. It is even taught that our concern with "special interest groups" is the American Way – this in face of the fact that the Founders' repeatedly warned against the creation of "political factions."

Washington Will Never Work Until Bureaucrats Know They Can Be Fired Tomorrow

Are liberals really incapable of governing because they are blind to the inherent flaws of massive bureaucracies? National Review Online's Jim Geraghty makes a persuasive case today for that proposition.

"In most professions, when you end up spending ten times what you budgeted, the consequences are swift and severe. Heads roll. Responsibilities are reassigned. Budgetary authority gets yanked. This, of course, is not how things work in the federal government," Geraghty notes, referring to well-publicized recent cost-overruns on healthcare.gov.

The result is that when liberals are in power, examples abound of "high-profile failure and limited consequences" such as the fact Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius still has her job.

Salisbury News To Deliver MASSIVE Breaking News Story Today

Ladies & Gentlemen, I've been doing this Blog thing for a LOT of years now. I have seen and exposed some of the most incredible news stories, many of which have been ignored by the local media. However, the one we'll deliver today will top them all.

We will touch on the main topics and concerns but I have to tell you, it's so big, we'll have to break it down day by day, one topic at a time. We will be providing a link to the actual findings and here is what I'm going to ask of each and every one of you. I'm being very serious now. I'm going to ask that you truly take the time to click on the link and READ the entire document.

We have been digesting this information for TWO days now and I have to say, if we did one Post on the entire findings it would be the longest article we've ever written. Hence why I'm saying we'll have to touch on each topic one day at a time.

When you see this document you'll know immediately that a LOT of people need to be FIRED, all the way up to the County Executive. The article will go up and remain at the very top for the entire day until midnight. Coming soon.

Some Information About Smart Meters

Utilities across the country are installing so-called ‘smart’ meters.  As a result, bills are skyrocketing, health effects and safety violations are being reported, and privacy in our homes is being violated. Do we really need wireless smart meters?
Decide for yourself:
Do you want an accurate, reasonably priced utility bill? Utility customers have noticed huge increases in their bill after a ‘smart’ meter is installed–in some cases hundreds of dollars more than usual.  Utilities claim the meters are accurate, but unexplained over-billing has featured in many negative reports, all around the US. Read more.
Do you value your health, and the health of your family and friends? Just as we’re learning that cell phones cause brain tumors, why are we installing the same technology on everyone’s homes, often with no right to opt out?  Thousands of people have complained of tinnitus, headaches, nausea, sleeplessness, heart arrhythmia, and other symptoms after a ‘smart’ meter was installed.  Wireless technology is a public health hazard.  Smart meters can violate already high FCC limits on human exposure to microwave radiation, and are being installed even as people are developing “electro-sensitivity”.  There are also reports of ‘smart’ meter interference with pacemakers and other implants.

Obama Blew $120 Billion On Global Warming

That’s more than twice the annual Social Security deficit. But who cares about the seniors when the world is about to end unless a whole bunch of campaign donors and their companies get piles of taxpayer money.

What could you do with 120 billion dollars? It’s enough money to buy an iPad for every kid in school, pay for a months worth of gas for every American or give a $323 tax rebate to every American.

It would be more than enough to revive the space program or actually fund the military.

How The Fed Has Failed America, Part 2

The only way to eliminate the financial parasites is to stop subsidizing their skimming and scamming, and the only way to stop subsidizing the financial parasites is to shut down the Fed.

Before I explain how the Federal Reserve has failed America, let's do a little thought experiment. Let's imagine that instead of creating $3.2 trillion and giving it to the banking sector to play with--funding carry trades and high-frequency trading, for example--the Fed had invested in carry trades itself and returned the profits directly to taxpayers.

Before we go through the math, let's recall how a carry trade works: Financiers borrow billions at near-zero interest from the Fed and then use the free money to buy bonds in other countries where the return is (say) 5%. The financiers are skimming 4.75% or more for doing nothing other than having access to the Fed's free money.

If the bonds rise in value (because interest rates decline in the nation issuing the bonds), the financiers skim additional profit. If the trade can be leveraged via derivatives, then the annual return can be bumped up from 5% to 10%.

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - The loss of 20 key Freescale Semiconductor (FSL.N) employees in the disappearance of a Malaysian airliner on Saturday raises questions about whether the company should have allowed so many of them to board the same plane, but security experts said that at big corporations it's hard to avoid.

The disappearance of Malaysia Airlines' (MASM.KL) Flight MH370 about an hour into its journey to Beijing remained a mystery on Monday as a search orchestrated by 10 countries failed to find traces of the plane or the 239 people on board.

It was a blow to Austin, Texas-based Freescale. The vanished employees were engineers or specialists involved in projects to streamline and cut costs at key manufacturing facilities in China and Malaysia.

Many large companies have policies to prevent chief executives, chief financial officers and other senior executives from flying together to minimize disruption in case of a fatal crash, but few firms extend strict policies much further down the ladder.

Holder Makes New Move To Shorten Drug Sentences

Attorney General Eric Holder is making a new move to shorten sentences in federal drug cases by backing a plan that would cut prison terms for many drug convicts by an average of nearly a year, a Justice Department official said.

At a meeting Thursday of the U.S. Sentencing Commission, Holder plans to announce his support for a change that panel recommended in January, said the official—who asked not to be named. That change would affect suggested sentences for about 70% of federal drug trafficking convicts. Those with moderate amounts of drugs would see reductions, while those involved with small or large quantities would not benefit, the official said.

The change won't be voted on by the commission until at least April, but the official said that in the meantime Holder will instruct federal prosecutors not to oppose defense motions seeking sentences in the proposed, lower ranges. Under the proposal, the average federal sentence for drug trafficking would drop from 62 months to 51 months, the official added.

SUSPECT WHO SHOT AT PURSUING TROOPERS SOUGHT IN TALBOT CO.

(EASTON, MD) – State and local police are searching this morning for a suspect who fled a traffic stop in Talbot County late last night and shot at troopers who were pursuing him on foot.

The suspect is identified as Brooks S. Perry, 28, whose last known address was Milford, Delaware. A temporary felony warrant has been issued for Perry. He is also wanted in Delaware on traffic charges, where his driver’s license is currently suspended and revoked.

At about 11:30 p.m. yesterday, a patrol trooper from the Maryland State Police Easton Barrack saw a dark colored Hyundai speeding on Rt. 404 approaching Rt. 50. The driver turned eastbound onto Rt. 50 and pulled to the shoulder. The trooper contacted the driver, later identified as Perry, who gave him a false name and said he had no identification. During contact with the driver, the trooper noted signs indicating he was possibly driving under the influence. The trooper had the driver remain in his car and called for backup, due to his suspicious actions, which included asking the trooper if he was going to call for backup.
