JCPenney Knocks Out Macy’s In Court Ruling: JCP Can Sell Martha Stewart Products
Well lookee here — there’s news about JCPenney and for once, the company isn’t on the losing end of the stick. A judge ruled today against Macy’s request to extend an injunction that barred JCPenney from selling Martha Stewart designs in its stores. The ruling means JCPenney can peddle Martha’s wares (temporarily), as long as the products don’t have her name on them.
Justice Jeffrey K. Oing of New York State Supreme court warned JCPenney on using Martha’s name anywhere: “I don’t want to see it in advertisements, in any brochures or promotions. You are to stay away from the Martha Stewart brand,” he said.

Jury Awards $90 Million In Prince George’s County Wrongful-Death Case
A Prince George’s County Circuit Court jury has awarded $90 million to the family of a 13-year-old girl who died four years ago after she was struck by a car while trying to catch a school bus.
The family of Ashley Davis, who was a freshman at Crossland High School, sued the Prince George’s County Board of Education after she succumbed to her injuries two weeks after the Sept. 1, 2009, crash. A six-member jury handed down the wrongful-death verdict — one of the largest in the court’s history — this month.
Davis was walking across Brinkley Road near Fisher Road in Temple Hills when a Lincoln Continental traveling east struck her, then hit a minivan and then a 17-year-old boy walking on the opposite side of the street, police said in initial reports about the two-car crash.

THE BEE GEES & RITA HAYWORTH
This is outstanding..... Somebody had a lot of fun with this. Most of the people in the video were deceased before the Bee Gees recorded Staying Alive. Whether you are a Bee Gees or Rita Hayworth fan or not...you are going to like this. A great job of putting clips together with the music. It is a great marriage of 40's dancing and late 70's music. Enjoy.

NY Times Op-Ed: Bomb North Korea
It’s rare that I somewhat find myself agreeing with far left liberals on an issue, but this op-ed piece by Jeremi Suri is absurd
Bomb North Korea, Before It’s Too Late
The Korean crisis has now become a strategic threat to America’s core national interests. The best option is to destroy the North Korean missile on the ground before it is launched. The United States should use a precise airstrike to render the missile and its mobile launcher inoperable.
President Obama should state clearly and forthrightly that this is an act of self-defense in response to explicit threats from North Korea and clear evidence of a prepared weapon. He should give the leaders of South Korea, Japan, China and Taiwan advance notice before acting. And he should explain that this is a limited defensive strike on a military target — an operation that poses no threat to civilians — and that America does not intend to bring about regime change. The purpose is to neutralize a clear and present danger. That is all.

Maryland Regulators Begin Hearing Pepco Rate Case
Maryland utility regulators say they have set aside 10 days to hear a rate increase request from Pepco.
Testimony before the Maryland Public Service Commission begins Monday and runs through Friday. Four more days are scheduled next week and the final day is April 29.
Pepco asked the commission late last year for an increase that would add about $7 a month to the average residential bill. The utility also asked to impose a surcharge of about $1 a month starting in 2014.

Abortion Doctor’s Murder Trial Sparks Media Debate
Some journalists are asking why the murder trial of a Philadelphia abortion doctor isn’t receiving more coverage.
In 2010, police raided Dr. Kermit Gosnell’s abortion clinic, called the Women’s Medical Society, in a low-income neighborhood of West Philadelphia and found what a grand jury report called a “baby charnel house” where illegal and late term abortions were performed under dangerous conditions. Now on trial, Gosnell is charged with the deaths of one patient and seven babies allegedly born alive during abortion procedures; eight former employees–none of whom were certified doctors–may also face prison time.

Comptroller: Paper Free Tax Filing Expected In Few Years
Maryland's Comptroller says more and more taxpayers are filing their taxes electronically and he expects in a few years it will be a paper free system.
Peter Franchot tells WBAL's Bryan Nehman on Maryland's Morning News that there have been about two million tax returns filed so far and he expects another 800-thousand to trickle in and extensions filed as the midnight deadline approaches.
Franchot says the state usually refunds about $2 billion each year.

Sneezing And Wheezing Solutions: Surprising Ways To Relieve Spring Allergies
The runny noses, sneezing and foggy-headedness of allergy season seem to start sooner and sooner each year. And that could mean a longer period of misery for those sensitive to pollen.
Warmer winters, triggered by climate change, are a major contributor to intense allergy seasons, since milder temperatures could lead to longer growing seasons for plants, which just provides more time for them to send their pollen into the air.

Support For Md. Workforce Training Program Unites Business And Workers
You might not expect a CEO and a person without a job to agree on legislation, but there are exceptions. Marylanders Mark Rice and Paul Behler live in very different circumstances — Rice is the owner of a Baltimore City manufacturing plant and Behler is one of the city’s unemployed. But both support a new state program signed into law Tuesday, HB227, that will fund the training of Maryland’s workforce.
Behler has been struggling to find work since 2011, when he lost his job as a piano technician after 30 years in the music business. Until a few days ago, Behler was homeless, and he spent over 18 months without housing.
His hope is that the EARN program will allow him to get a technical certification in plumbing or construction, which he sees as his ticket out of poverty.

Are You A Looker? Motorcyclists Are Looking Out For You
Office of Highway Safety reminds motorists to look twice for motorcyclists.
Dover – With winter gone and spring bringing warmer weather, more motorcyclists are out on the roads. The Delaware Office of Highway Safety (OHS) is reminding motorists to keep an eye out for motorcyclists because they are looking out for you.
Across the nation, motorcycle crashes continue to be on the rise. To date this year Delaware has seen 22 motorcycle injury crashes and 1 motorcycle fatal crash. That is why the OHS continues to promote both Motorcycle Safety campaigns Share The Road and Respect Your Ride.
The Share The Road campaign is aimed at motorists to be extra alert to keep an eye out for motorcyclists on Delaware roadways. Motorists are reminded to allow a motorcyclist a full lane width and allow for more following distance between you and the motorcyclists. Although it may seem that there is enough room in the traffic lane for a motor vehicle and a motorcycle, the motorcycle needs the room to maneuver safely. Do not share the lane, share the road.
Education and outreach efforts for the Share The Road campaign include billboards, bathroom mirror clings, radio ads, stickers and window clings with the share the road message.

‘DO NOT PICK UP THE PENCIL’: NEW YORK PARENTS COACH KIDS TO REFUSE COMMON CORE TESTS
Common Core, the controversial set of educational standards aimed at firming up students’ grasp of math and language, has already attracted criticism from sources both left and right. On the one hand, privacy advocates fret over the program’s data mining on students. On the other, teachers complain that the standards are overly rigid and won’t lead to a better education system. And now, parents angry over their students being tested on subjects they haven’t had time to learn are striking back as well — by giving their children a truly hands’ on lesson in civil disobedience.

Democrats Hide When Asked About Ending High-Income Loophole To Assure Social Security's Future
For all the talk of the Social Security system running out of money, it is well established that raising or eliminating the cap on the wages subject to payroll taxes would guarantee a healthy Social Security system for many decades, and do so without cutting benefits or raising the retirement age.
Public support for elimination of the payroll tax cap is high. According to a National Academy of Social Insurance Survey conducted in 2012, 68 percent of Americans favor eliminating the cap.
Only the top 5.2 percent income earners would pay more in payroll taxes if the cap were completely eliminated; if the cap were eliminated for income over $250,000, only the wealthiest 1.3 percent would pay more. Both estimates come from the Center for Economic and Policy Research.

9/11 Memorial Goes Back On Its Word, Charges Reservation Fee; Victims' Families Furious
The 9/11 Memorial foundation, funded to the tune of $830 million, has begun nickel-and-diming visitors for ticket reservations.
Even though the nonprofit has long vowed admission to the sacred site would be free, it is now demanding $2 per ticket for all advance reservations made online or by phone.
Officials quietly rolled out the fee on March 1 — but it did not escape the notice of some outraged families of Sept. 11 victims.
“I don’t want the American public to have to pay a dime to pay respects to my son,” said Sally Regenhard, whose firefighter son, Christian, died in the World Trade Center attacks.

ESPN Claim: Two NASCAR Drivers Told To Avoid Interviews With NRA Logo In The Background
NASCAR and the NRA go together like peanut butter and jelly, but the “NRA 500″ coming up Saturday at Texas Motor Speedway is proving to be more controversial than expected.
As a publicity stunt, Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut asked Fox News not to run the event because of the NRA sponsorship. Murphy’s complaint seems to have had even less of an impact than you’d expect. Texas Motor Speedway President Eddie Gossage said there had been very few complaints.

Likely Tax Cheats Flock South, West
Worried the Internal Revenue Service might target you for an audit? You probably should be if you own a small business in one of the wealthy suburbs of Los Angeles.
You might also be wary if you're a small-business owner in one of dozens of communities near San Francisco, Houston, Atlanta or the District of Columbia.
A new study by the National Taxpayer Advocate used confidential IRS data to show large clusters of potential tax cheats in these five metropolitan areas. The IRS uses the information to target taxpayers for audits.

Civilian Furloughs
Senior defense officials have again lowered their estimate of how many days civilian employees will be furloughed. The latest guess is seven days. Earlier they said 22 days, then cut that to 14 days. The officials told the Associated Press, it's possible no furloughs will be required because of sequestration. That's because the 2013 spending bill enacted in March gives the Defense Department the flexibility it needs to avoid them. The Navy was the first of the armed services to say it would try to skip furloughs entirely. But the Pentagon wants any furloughs to fall equally across all defense components.

ADHD Isn’t A Metaphor
Let’s say that rates of ADHD diagnoses among kids in America are continually rising. Let’s say that stimulant medication use — both prescribed by doctors, and as the result of illegal trade with friends — is on the rise, too. What do we make of that information? What do we do with it? In particular, how do we use it to improve children’s and teenagers’ lives?
The answers speak volumes about where we are as a society and where we ought to be headed.
The default response, every time we get news about any sort of uptick in the diagnosis and treatment of children’s mental disorders, is to issue condemnations of bad parents, bad doctors, bad teachers, and bad schools. (Not to mention big bad pharma, of course, which, it seems, will never rise from the bed of nails it has built for itself over the years.)

Inspiration From Brooke Mulford
Dear Mr. Albero:
I believe you knew about the Westside Intermediate School Destination Imagination team (The D.I. Funky Monkeys) that chose to have a fundraiser for Brooke Mulford as their D.I. Reel to Reel challenge for this year's competition. We would like you to know that this first year D.I. team of 3rd and 4th grade students not only won first place at the State competition at UMBC yesterday out of 21 Maryland teams in that challenge (and are heading to the D.I. Global competition in Knoxville, TN in May!), but they also won the coveted "Spirit of D.I." award and received a standing ovation at the awards ceremony at UMBC from all the teams that participated. Their presentation touched the hearts of so many people, and they did a magnificent job! We are so proud of these children, and hope to help them raise enough money to go to Globals. As Brooke was their inspiration and remains a special friend to the children at WIS, we are hoping that she can also go to the Globals in Tennessee to see the D.I. Funky Monkeys' presentation. We would just like you to share with the community this beautiful story, if you will.
Best wishes to the D.I. Funky Monkeys and, as always, prayers and love for Brooke.
Checks should be made payable to Westside Intermediate School. Thanks so much for caring about Brooke and our D.I. team!!!

Mr. Albero, although our message is simply to share with the community the goodness and inspiration we have seen in our children, if anyone would happen to ask if they could make a donation to the Funky Monkeys travel expenses (most funds have to be raised by the teams and supporters), we want you to have the information. Any donation, no matter how small, will help these marvelous children get to the Global competition in Tennessee!

A Letter To The Editor 4-15-13
Joe,
I was pleased to shake your hand today. Seemed fortuitous since I was browsing the aisles, thinking about why you are not the new mayor of SBY, seriously.
And I think it's the same, or similar, reason that Obama was re-elected. Most of the public just doesn't vote. Why not? And for the rest that DO vote, they vote for for free stuff. Why?
I think it's the growing SCARCITY MENTALITY. What I mean is that everyone believes that the world is a zero sum economy.... that they can't get more without taking.
What I see from you, Joe, and what I believe myself, is that wealth can be created. ABUNDANCE is there for those willing to work for it. Some accused you of wanting to improve downtown so your property values would increase. I said, "SO WHAT." If the entire downtown improved and you had some benefit from that, why is that a problem?
It begs the question... "What is the solution now." I don't know. I'm not a leader, but I think I am a good example. I seek to be the change I want in the world. That's what I feel I have control over.
Your opponent based his campaign on negativity and you did the opposite. What you did is less effective, but I noticed.
I will not be a passive observer. I will not be a fence sitter. I know what's right. I know what's good.
Thank you again for all your efforts. I am offering to help if you call, in however I may be useful. I will shovel sidewalks. I will deliver meals.
Call on your viewers to help, and not just be informed. I think you will be surprised.
Peace to you and your family.

Alex Guerrero Dominates Yet Another Professional Win In Salisbury
Another great night of boxing took place Friday night at the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center brought to you by the Main Street Gym.
Each bout was extremely enjoyable to watch but none more enjoyable than Alex Guerrero fighting an almost perfect 10 rounds and barely getting touched by his opponent.
Let me assure you, this was no gimme match. Alex defended himself almost perfectly throughout the bout proving he is one of the very best in his weight class and extremely difficult to beat.
While the crowd was much smaller than his younger brother Fernando's matches at the Civic Center, those who attended got their moneys worth.
It was unfortunate Friday evening when I watched the local news and there was absolutely nothing on air to promote the fight. While I have heard numerous times that Salisbury News doesn't cover enough local events, perhaps those complaining should take another look at the rest of the main stream media not covering such events. At least we promoted it and the proof was in all of those people who attended that follow Salisbury News.
Congratulations Alex Guerrero and the Main Street Gym.
