Code Red Rally in DC Tuesday

Today Sen. Tom Coburn, M.D., Sen. Jim DeMint, Laura Ingraham, AFP President Tim Phillips and our 15 coalition partners joined together with thousands of Americans AGAIN on Capital Hill, just as the Democratic Senators were summonded to Obama's place to get bribed or bentover or whatever, We told the Senate: "Hands off our health care!"

The Democratic leadership is trying to get to a final vote this week, so the timing couldn't be better for us to take this stand.

We found that the pressure in the White House paid off as Lieberman's is now on board, just hours after the GOP sent out a release touting his opposition. Susan Collins may be vote 61. Dems just want a bill labeled "health care." Today thousands of Americans, parents and concerned citizens stopped all of their holiday festivities to stand up for this country and their families. Here are some pictures of the event and signs.

Here are more photos of the event.

Armed Robbery Suspect Caught On Camera At Multiple Locations

The armed robber took off from the Comfort Inn on foot and headed towards Home Depot. He ran into Target where they got him on video, took off his jacket and then headed over to the Tractor Supply where they too were able to capture him on video.

Since then Police were dispatched to the Sleep Inn Hotel near the Shorebirds Stadium where the clerk recognized the individual matching the description who asked what the rates were. Police are on their way over there right now. The clerk also got a description of the vehicle from the clerk.

He is now wearing a white fleece.

Television Evangelist Oral Roberts Dies

University founder had complications from pneumonia; he was 91

TULSA, Okla
- Oral Roberts, a pioneer in televangelism who founded a multimillion-dollar ministry and a university that bears his name, died Tuesday. He was 91.

Roberts died of complications from pneumonia in Newport Beach, California, according to his spokesman, A. Larry Ross. The evangelist was hospitalized after a fall on Saturday. He had survived two heart attacks in the 1990s and a broken hip in 2006.

Roberts was a pioneer who broadcast his spirit-filled revivals on television, a new frontier for religion when he started in the 1950s. He was also a forerunner of the controversial "prosperity gospel" that has come to dominate televangelism. The evangelist's "Seed-Faith" theology held that those who give to God will get things in return.

One Of The Biggest Reasons I Love Salisbury News So Much

Last Friday I posted THIS ARTICLE about a 2 year old red short haired miniature dachshund running away. To be honest with you, I was scared to death for this particular animal because of its short hair and the temperatures being so cold and rainy last weekend.

Tonight I deliver wonderful news. This 2 year old dog was just found this evening in the woods. The Family, friends and neighbors simply didn't give up and thank God their beloved pet has been rescued.

If there's one thing I love about this Blog and one thing that makes all this work so worth while, this is one of the biggest joys one could get.

East Side Deli Greg Knowles

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to reach out to you all. I know many of you are aware of the tragic situation that took place in Salisbury, MD just over a week ago. For those of you who are not, here is what happened. My father was shot at our family Deli in Salisbury, MD on Monday, November 30th, by an armed robber. Those of you who know my father, know he is literally the kindest and most selfless person many people will ever meet. I'm sure many of you have heard the saying, "he would give you the shirt off his back"... well my father really would and then give you a bowl of his homemade soup too!

The man who robbed our Deli shot my father and then proceeded to steal money out of a cash register, while my father fought for his life and almost bled to death on the floor where he was shot. This individual cannot be allowed to commit another act of violence against anyone else!

**We are starting a reward fund for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible for this malicious act against my father. Anything you can donate to the reward fund would be greatly appreciated and may be the difference in catching this inhumane individual before he can hurt anyone else. If you can help please make any checks out to "The Greg Knowles/ East Side Deli Reward Fund. You can drop off checks at East Side Deli located at 1120 E. Main St., Salisbury, MD 21804 or mail them to the same address with Attention Alicia Knowles or Denise Knowles (my Mom). If you would like to donate money that is fine too, we just need to keep a list of the amount of money you have donated and your phone number or Address incase the reward is not used. If the reward is not used then all money and checks will be returned to everyone.*

Thank you all for your love and support. Please continue to pray for my Dad's speedy recovery, each day he improves a little more. Much love to you all.

The Citizens Want Chief Webster's Resignation NOW

With Part One Crimes continuing to spiral through the roof, citizens want Webster to step down and resign. As you are all aware, 3 additional robberies occurred in the City within the past 24 hours, (perhaps more) and many are saying, Enough is Enough.

Monday night the Council moved forward in a first reading to add an additional $20,000.00 for a full time person to battle crime. NOT GOOD ENOUGH, not even close. Comegys stated he wanted to front an additional $150,000.00 after back stepping from the week before after Mayor Ireton slam dunked Comegys and now Comegys comes back a week later and says, DO OVER, I didn't mean it the way it came out. Nice try Gary but you looked like a fool then and you looked like an even bigger fool Monday night.

The answer, either get rid of Webster immediately or allow Sheriff Lewis to take over the City by order of the Mayor and stop the BS games. Even IF Comegys idea sounds good to those foolish enough to believe him this second go around, even the Officers coming out of the Academy right now won't be able to work on their own until some time in March.

So let's just say we hire an additional 4 Officers with that other $150,000.00 Comegys spoke of. By the time they hit the streets it will be the year 2011. Nice try Gary but Salisbury needs help NOW! Call in the State Police, the WCSO and even the Salisbury University Officers to do what Webster clearly cannot do, LEAD!

Mayor Ireton needs to stop this waiting game before someone else gets seriously hurt or even killed. Salisbury needs emergency protection and since the City of Salisbury is within Wicomico County, ASK FOR HELP! Webster is refusing help and no matter what anyone says, Mayor Ireton is refusing that help as well.

Mayor Ireton, it's time to make some leadership decisions and stop playing politics. Screw the Council, GO TO WORK NOW!

D.C. City Council Votes To Legalize Gay Marriage

WASHINGTON - The Washington, D.C., City Council voted Tuesday to legalize gay marriage in the nation's capital, handing supporters a victory after a string of recent defeats in Maine, New York and New Jersey.

Mayor Adrian Fenty has promised to sign the bill, which passed 11-2, and gay couples could begin marrying as early as March. Congress, which has final say over Washington's laws, could reject it, but Democratic leaders have suggested they are reluctant to do so.

The bill had overwhelming support among council members and was expected to pass, though opponents have vowed to try to get Congress or voters to overturn it.

800,000 Doses Of Kids' H1N1 Vaccine Recalled

ATLANTA — Health officials are recalling hundreds of thousands of doses of swine flu vaccine after tests indicated they may not be potent enough to protect against the virus.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notified doctors about the recall Tuesday. The recall involves about 800,000 doses made by Sanofi Pasteur. The doses are pre-filled syringes intended for young children, ages 6 months to almost three years.

Health officials recommend children those ages get two doses, spaced about a month apart.

Health officials say it's not clear how many doses have already been given, but they don't think children need to be re-vaccinated. The lots passed potency tests when they were first shipped, but tests indicate the potency waned after.

Sanofi, who manufactures the vaccine, said there is no safety concerns with the recalled lots.

Obama Likely To Sign $1.1 Trillion Omnibus With 5,224 Earmarks, Taxpayer-Funded Abortions, Needle Exchange

President Barack Obama will likely sign the $1.1 trillion omnibus spending package passed by the Senate over the weekend containing more than 5,000 earmarks, a White House spokesman said Monday, stressing that the number of earmarks had dropped from the previous year’s spending bill.

Obama signed the 2009 omnibus bill last March. It contained 8,570 earmarks. He vowed then that the bill signing was simply wrapping up the previous year’s business – a “departure point” – and that things would change under his watch.

While the president has not made a formal decision yet, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said he will likely sign it.

When asked about Obama’s earlier comment about “far-reaching change” in omnibus spending, Gibbs said, “We’ve seen a decrease of 15 percent in the number of earmarks.

And They're Called MSM?

In today's Daily Times they provide yet another story produced last week by Salisbury News. Notice AGAIN how we at least link to their story. Taking "one of a kind" stories like this from a Blogger and making it their own is again one more reason to dump that subscription. Not only is it old news, they refuse to give credit where credit is due. Oh well, should I expect any different from these people?
January is coming very soon Boys and I always deliver on my promises. It's not only about credibility, it's also about loyalty. You see, we don't RAT OUT our readers and give up IP Addresses at the drop of a hat, like the Daily Times does. They can't be trusted any more and now they're taking stories from the real Delmarva News Leader. Oh, did I forget to mention their Twitter Page called "Salisbury News."
The clock is ticking and this will be their last year in business, (2010).

Multi-Grain Cheerios At Wal-Mart. Now Rodent Free!

I was in the North Sailsbury Wal-mart and went down the cereal aisle. I went past the Cheerios shelf and noticed what is in the two above pictures.

In case it is a little unclear to read, the tube on the shelf reads "CAUTION - RODENT TRAP - DO NOT TOUCH".

Are you kidding me! Am I the only one who finds a problem with this? Have we really slipped so far that it is now OK to openly have an open rodent trap on the shelf for kids to touch?

SALISBURY’S SLUMLORDS STRIKE BACK!

Last night’s City Council meeting, during the public comments, featured the obviously planned by SAPOA commentary by several local landlords complaining about the lack of police near their rental properties, as if Jim Ireton after his months as mayor had created the situation and is responsible for the high crime rates in those areas. They failed to mention that Chiefy Webster, who has been in his position for years during which the situation has become much worse, has opposed reopening the police substations that they say are needed or that Webster has refused the offers of Sheriff Mike Lewis to provide special law enforcement assistance the City.

Does anyone else see the spectre of T. J. Maloney in this stunt?

If Gary Chandler, Dale Dashiell and Richard Insley really want improved police protection and reduced crime rates they would publicly support Ireton’s request that Webster resign..

Senate Health Care Bill Would Force Some Middle Class Families To Pay $15,200 Yearly Insurance Fee

Even without the inclusion of a 'public option', the health care bill presented in the Senate by Majority Leader Harry Reid (D.-Nev.) would make some middle-class American families pay what amounts to a $15,200 annual federally-mandated insurance fee, according to facts revealed in analyses published by the Congressional Budget Office.

The fee would result from the facts that the bill requires individuals—but not employers—to purchase health insurance plans and that families that earn up to 400 percent of the federal poverty level would be given government subsidies to purchase insurance in government-regulated insurance exchanges while families earning more than 400 percent of the federal poverty level would be denied government subsidies.

A family of four—two parents and two children—earning $88,200 would be at 400 percent of the poverty level this year, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. A family of four earning $88,201, therefore, would not be eligible for a federal subsidy to buy insurance under the Senate health-care bill. If the mother and father in such a family could not get employer-based health insurance—because their employers decided not to buy their workers insurance—the family would be required by law to purchase a policy with its own money that would cost an estimated $15,200 per year, according to the CBO.

Immigration Bill Backers Try Again Despite Jobless Rate

Democrats on Tuesday begin their new push for an immigration bill, hamstrung by the image of legalizing millions of illegal immigrant workers at a time when the unemployment rate stands at 10 percent -- more than twice what it was the last time Congress tried to act.

"It certainly will confuse the debate a lot more, but at the end of the day what we have to understand is fixing this system will be good for American workers," said Eliseo Medina, executive vice president of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which is one of the major advocates for legalizing illegal immigrant workers (and also one of the major forces behind the group ACORN.)

A draft overview of the bill, circulated with the letter, ends some enforcement tools such as the 287(g) local police cooperation program which enabled local authorities to detain illegals, and calls for an electronic verification system to replace the voluntary E-verify program. It also argues that there's no need for more U.S. Border Patrol agents or fencing, and establishes a long-term path to citizenship (amnesty) for illegal immigrants.

That path would require illegal immigrants to pay a $500 fine, pass a background check and learn English and civics to gain legal status.

"With 15 million Americans out of work, it's hard to believe that anyone would give amnesty to 12 million illegal immigrants," said Rep. Lamar Smith of Texas, the top Republican on the House Judiciary Committee. "Even the open-borders crowd agrees that illegal immigrants take jobs from American workers, particularly poor and disadvantaged citizens and legal immigrants. This is exactly why we need to oppose amnesty."

His office has calculated that there are 19 states where the number of illegal immigrants in the work force is at least 50 percent of the number of unemployed workers.

Barney Frank's TARP Plan Slides Through House Without Committee Hearings

While America was distracted by the arguments over health care, Copenhagen, terror trials in New York and a "jobs" summit, a new type of TARP proposal that would set up a tax-and-spend process involving hundreds of billions of dollars and that would bypass Congress has been adopted by the U.S. House.

The Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act by U.S. Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., was approved recently on a 223-202 vote without a single cosponsor and no hearings. Its major congressional actions were its introduction on Dec. 2 and its adoption on Dec. 11.

It is, according to Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., worse than Democrat plans to have the government take over health care across the nation and the massive new taxes proposed in the global warming "cap-and-trade" proposal, combined.Essentially, she described the plan by Frank, which has yet to move through the U.S. Senate, as a new Troubled Asset Relief Plan like the original that gave truckloads of money to banks or financial institutions at the direction of the government. This plan, likewise, would involve the government handing out billions of dollars to companies it chose; it also would have government oversight over even minute details of those corporate operations; and further it would allow the collection of taxes – or "fees" – to fund operations. But worst of all, Bachmann said, such decisions would be left to the whims of the president and someone who would be appointed to a newly created "credit czar" post.

"President Obama would be able to bypass Congress and have a permanent bailout authority – at his sole power and discretion," she warned.

It also, she said, would give the president the authority to impose billions of dollars in taxes – or "fees" – without any further congressional input.

Homegrown Terror On The Rise In 2009

The five young Americans accused last week of traveling from Washington to Pakistan to wage jihad cap what appears to be a record year for homegrown terror plots, exposing a dangerous trend that experts say poses the biggest challenge America's security officials have ever faced.

Not including the Pakistan case, the Rand Corporation says that of the nearly 30 homegrown terror plots uncovered in the U.S. since Sept. 11, 2001, 10 surfaced in this year alone, including two actual attacks — in Little Rock, Ark. and Fort Hood, Texas.

That puts "the level of activity in 2009 much higher than that of previous years," Rand Senior Adviser Brian Jenkins told the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee last month.

GOVERNOR O’MALLEY ANNOUNCES FOUR DNA POLICE LABS RECEIVE FEDERAL RECOVERY FUNDING

Recovery Act Funding to support local Forensic Crime Lab efforts

ANNAPOLIS, MD
– Governor Martin O’Malley today announced that the Governor’s Office of Crime Control & Prevention (GOCCP) has awarded $1,234,669.00 from a second round of Recovery Grant funding to four Law Enforcement DNA Crime Labs in Maryland. The funds will assist the labs in analyzing crime scene evidence. DNA Crime Laboratories run by the Maryland State Police, the Baltimore Police Department, the Prince George’s County Police Department and the Montgomery County Police Department will use the funds to analyze DNA evidence collected at crime scenes.

“DNA – our modern fingerprint – is increasingly allowing law enforcement across the country to take repeat violent offenders off our streets, and are absolutely critical to our crime prevention efforts,” said Governor O’Malley. “I am proud to announce that these recovery funds will help assist these crime labs to continue our work in making our neighborhoods and our families safer.”

“Processing evidence taken from crime scenes will enable police to match DNA taken from the scene of a crime to the DNA processed from suspects,” GOCCP Executive Director Kristen O’Malley said. “Matching DNA will provide compelling evidence when criminals are tried for crimes in court.”

The grants, which were provided by the Byrne Justice Recovery Act program, distributed funding as follows:

Maryland State Police $ 374,871
Baltimore Police Department $ 375,000
Prince George’s County Police Department $ 209,798
Montgomery County Police Department $ 275,000

As a result of legislation signed by Governor O’Malley, individuals charged with crimes of violence, 1st, 2nd, or 3rd degree burglary or attempting these crimes are now also required to provide a DNA sample. The use of DNA technology to identify offenders and solve criminal cases quickly is a vital instrument in Maryland’s mission to provide safe and sustainable communities for every Maryland resident.

After clearing an inherited backlog of over 24,000 uncollected DNA samples, the State of Maryland achieved its 1,000th a year ago, having matched as many samples in two years as had been matched in Maryland during the previous eight. By the end of its second year in office, the Administration uploaded 46,400 DNA samples to the federal government’s combined DNA index system. To date, DNA has been used to make 192 arrests, including 15 individuals who were arrested for homicide, and 97 arrested for sexual offenses, in the past two and a half years. And last year DNA was one of several tools and strategies which allowed Maryland to achieve its second greatest statewide reduction in homicides since 1985. Since January of this year, when the newly reformed DNA collection law took affect, the State has collected 10,877 new samples, achieved 37 total hits, and used these hits to arrest ten violent individuals who might otherwise be on the streets committing further crimes.

RSC Update: Monday, December 14, 2009

From the Chairman

At every opportunity, the Democrats running Washington have taken the ‘government knows best’ approach to legislation dealing with the economy. Chairman Barney Frank’s financial regulatory bill passed by the House last week is no exception. Congress could have used the Republican proposal, H.R. 3310, as a starting point to implement appropriate reforms of the financial sector with little or no cost to taxpayers. Instead, the House passed a nearly 1,300 page bill that will make the notion that some institutions are ‘too-big-to-fail’ a permanent part of the American economy, while handing new power over to Washington.

Instead of ending the era of bailouts, Democrats are creating a permanent bailout fund that will ensure future government intervention. To paraphrase a famous movie line — if you build a bailout fund, bailouts will come.

Responsibility was once a cherished American principle, yet it has been absent from Washington for far too long. How else could Congress justify a permanent bailout bill, a much delayed 2,500 page appropriations bill with countless unnoticed provisions and earmarks, or the upcoming $1.8 trillion increase in the federal credit card limit? We need more conservatism in Washington demonstrating the understanding that when government runs wild, the entire country suffers.

Sincerely,

Congressman Tom Price, M.D.

Chairman, Republican Study Committee

Outlook – Here is a preview of upcoming Democrat proposals to advance their big-government, anti-taxpayer agenda.

· Although the bill has been ready for months, House Democrats have withheld the FY 2009 Defense appropriations bill until this week so they could use it to pass unpopular measures which either could not pass separately or on which they do not wish to take a separate vote. They will almost certainly use the troop funding measure to increase the federal debt limit by $1.8 trillion, and it is possible they could include other items as well.

· The Senate continues to debate health care, with Senate Democrat leaders seemingly ready to adopt almost any proposal whatsoever that can get 60 votes.

House Floor Activity – The following key legislation came through the House of Representatives last week.

· The House passed H.R. 4213, legislation that comes up every year to extend certain tax provisions, such as the ability to deduct state income or sales tax from one’s federal income tax burden. However, Democrats also included $32 billion in permanent tax increases to ‘pay for’ these temporary extensions of current tax policy.

· The House also passed H.R. 3288, a bill that contains six of the remaining seven FY 2010 appropriations bills. If this bill becomes law, Democrats will have increased non-defense discretionary spending by 85 percent in just two fiscal years.

· Finally, the House passed H.R. 4173, a nearly 1,300 page bill that will fundamentally remake the U.S. economy and ensure more bailouts in the future.

The Weapons Used In Iraq - Afghanistan Have Far Reaching Effects

UK, December 12, 2009, (Pal Telegraph) - We have seen the terrible consequences to human life and the environment that has been caused by weapons that contain uranium components. Genetically speaking the US and UK have destroyed the DNA of the Iraqi people as well as causing catastrophic effects on the environment.

Presidents and Prime Ministers really have a lot to answer for when they started the wars in the Balkans, Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Gaza and now Pakistan. We are now seeing their continued aggression and intimidation against Iran and North Korea and one wonders that they have up their sleeve.

What we the public do not understand is that these very acts alone and the weapons being used are creating a mass genocide of millions of people around the world. It has become the most evil act imaginable against humankind.

Obama Declares War On Pakistan

Obama’s West Point speech of December 1 represents far more than the obvious brutal escalation in Afghanistan — it is nothing less than a declaration of all-out war by the United States against Pakistan. This is a brand-new war, a much wider war now targeting Pakistan, a country of 160 million people armed with nuclear weapons. In the process, Afghanistan is scheduled to be broken up. This is no longer the Bush Cheney Afghan war we have known in the past. This is something immensely bigger: the attempt to destroy the Pakistani central government in Islamabad and to sink that country into a chaos of civil war, Balkanization, subdivision and general mayhem.

The chosen strategy is to massively export the Afghan civil war into Pakistan and beyond, fracturing Pakistan along ethnic lines. It is an oblique war using fourth-generation or guerrilla warfare techniques to assail a country which the United States and its associates in aggression are far too weak to attack directly. In this war, the Taliban are employed as US proxies. This aggression against Pakistan is Obama’s attempt to wage the Great Game against the hub of Central Asia and Eurasia or more generally.

Tomb Of The Unknown Soldier

Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

Refresher course:

On Jeopardy the other night, the final question was How many steps does the guard take during his walk across the tomb of the Unknowns --- All three missed it --
This is really an awesome sight to watch if you've never had the chance, Very fascinating.

Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

1. How many steps does the guard take during his walk across the tomb of the Unknowns and why?
21 steps. It alludes to the twenty-one gun salute, which is
the highest honor given any military or foreign dignitary.

2. How long does he hesitate after his about face to begin his return walk and why?

21 seconds for the same reason as answer number 1

3. Why are his gloves wet?

His gloves are moistened to prevent his losing his grip on the rifle.

4. Does he carry his rifle on the same shoulder all the time
and if not, why not?
He carries the rifle on the shoulder away from the tomb After his march across the path,
he executes an about face and moves the rifle to the outside shoulder

5. How often are the guards changed?

Guards are changed every thirty minutes,
twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year.

6. What are the physical traits of the guard limited to?

For a person to apply for guard duty at the tomb, he must be

between 5' 10' an d 6' 2' tall and his waist size cannot exceed 30.' Other

requirements of the Guard: They must commit 2 years of life to guard the

tomb, live in a barracks under the tomb, and cannot drink any alcohol on

or off duty for the rest of their lives. They cannot swear in public for the

rest of their lives and cannot disgrace the uniform {fighting} or the tomb in

any way. After two years, the guard is given a wreath pin that is worn on

their lapel signifying they served as guard of the tomb. There are only

400 presently worn. The guard must obey these rules for the rest of

their lives or give up the wreath pin.

The shoes are specially made with very thick soles to keep the heat

and cold from their feet. There are metal heel plates that extend to the

top of the shoe in order to make the loud click as they come to a halt.

There are no wrinkles, folds or lint on the uniform. Guards dress for duty

in front of a full-length mirror.

The first six months of duty a guard cannot talk to anyone, nor

watch TV. All off duty time is spent studying the 175 notable people laid

to rest in Arlington National Cemetery . A guard must memorize who they are

and where they are interred. Among the notables are: President Taft, Joe

E. Lewis {the boxer} and Medal of Honor winner Audie Murphy, {the most

decorated soldier of WWII} of Hollywood fame. Every guard spends
five hours a day getting his uniforms ready for guard duty.

ETERNAL REST GRANT THEM O LORD, AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON THEM..

In 2003 as Hurricane Isabelle was approaching Washington , DC , our

US Senate/House took 2 days off with anticipation of the storm. On the ABC

evening news, it was reported that because of the dangers from the

hurricane, the military members assigned the duty of guarding the Tomb of

the Unknown Soldier were given permission to suspend the assignment.

They respectfully declined the offer, 'No way, Sir!' Soaked to the skin,

marching in the pelting rain of a tropical storm, they said that guarding

the Tomb was not just an assignment, it was the highest honor that can be

afforded to a service person. The tomb has been patrolled continuously,

24/7, since 1930.

God Bless and keep them.

Safety Tips From The BBB In Reference To The 2010 Census

Information below was forwarded by Tim Spies – Camden Avenue Neighborhood Association and Wicomico Neighborhood Congress member. Thank you Tim!

Many members of the Wicomico Neighborhood Congress were given much information at our Annual Convention October 27th by United States Census guest Jacqueline Lisjuan. Below, please find information from the Better Business Bureau forwarded by Sergeant Steve Schweikert, Administrative Sergeant and Training Officer with the Salisbury Police Department (410-548-3165 x 1131). Additionally, please be kind to our census takers. They have a very difficult task before them!

2010 Census to Begin

WARNING: 2010 Census Cautions from the Better Business Bureau

Be Cautious About Giving Info to Census Workers by Susan Johnson

With the U.S. Census process beginning, the Better Business Bureau
(BBB) advises people to be cooperative, but cautious, so as not to
become a victim of fraud or identity theft. The first phase of the
2010 U.S. Census is under way as workers have begun verifying the
addresses of households across the country. Eventually, more than
140,000 U.S. Census workers will count every person in the United
States and will gather information about every person living at each
address including name, age, gender, race, and other relevant data.

The big question is - how do you tell the difference between a U.S.
Census worker and a con artist? BBB offers the following advice:

** If a U.S Census worker knocks on your door, they will have a
badge, a handheld device, a Census Bureau canvas bag, and a
confidentiality notice. Ask to see their identification and their
badge before answering their questions. However, you should never
invite anyone you don't know into your home.

** Census workers are currently only knocking on doors to verify
address information. Do not give your Social Security number, credit
card or banking information to anyone, even if they claim they need it
for the U.S. Census.

REMEMBER, NO MATTER WHAT THEY ASK, YOU REALLY ONLY NEED TO TELL THEM
HOW MANY PEOPLE LIVE AT YOUR ADDRESS.

While the Census Bureau might ask for basic financial information,
such as a salary range, YOU DON'T HAVE TO ANSWER ANYTHING AT ALL ABOUT
YOUR FINANCIAL SITUATION. The Census Bureau will not ask for Social
Security, bank account, or credit card numbers, nor will employees
solicit donations. Any one asking for that information is NOT with
the Census Bureau.

AND REMEMBER, THE CENSUS BUREAU HAS DECIDED NOT TO WORK WITH

ACORN ON GATHERING THIS INFORMATION. No Acorn worker should approach
you saying he/she is with the Census Bureau.

Eventually, Census workers may contact you by telephone, mail, or in
person at home. However, the Census Bureau will not contact you by
Email, so be on the lookout for Email scams impersonating the Census.

Never click on a link or open any attachments in an Email that are
supposedly from the U.S. Census Bureau.
