Dime a Beer Night Debacle, Only In Cleveland...

What will go down in MLB lore as possibly the greatest tragedy ever for the game for promotions and fan involvement goes to "Dime a Beer" night in old Municipal Stadium which hosted the Cleveland Indians versus Texas Rangers.

In typical dramatic fashion bats were wielded as swords by players and fans rushed the fields with far worst. At least beer was cheap.

Anheuser Bush...Are They Gonna Sell Out Too?

Fox News just reported that Anheuser Busch may be selling out to Belgian Brewer InBev for a $4.6 Billion Dollar takeover that will move production of America's #1 Beer to Mexico!

While members of the Bush family still retain Board Seats in the company they do not retain controlling interest. Warren Buffet has over 15% interest in the company.
Employees, at the St. Louis, Missouri plant are reeling at the prospect of such a decision.
It is rumored that the Busch family does not want to sell, as they feel a commitment to the people of St. Louis, and to America, however, one Busch family member said that the best interests of the companies holders is their number one priority. Stock holders want to see the move, as profits will increase greatly since production costs will plummet.

Are we going to witness the demise of yet another American Institution?

Breaking Gas News

I just received a call from one of our Contributors to Salisbury News telling me they were on Cypress Street at the old Super Soda buying gas for $3.82 a gallon. They mentioned that Gordy is selling the same gas for $3.99! $ .17 cents a gallon less, just around the corner.

They're selling Diesel Gas for $4.59 a gallon. Keep in mind, these are cash prices. If you use your credit card, add $ .10 cents a gallon. If you have a City Credit Card it's the same as cash. I was just told it's only $ .05 cents more per gallon for regular gas if you use a credit card.

Heidi made an appointment with Pocomoke resident and local stylist Barbara Adkins.

It's A Beautiful Day In Our Neighborhood

Today's Wildlife Photos are very exciting at the Albero Ranch. Our Grandson was amazed to see these beautiful ducklings first thing this morning as they had finally hatched and were swimming away in the front pond. This particular duck has been here three seasons now and the first two she was not successful in hatching any ducklings, so we're very pleased to see everything worked out well this year.

When Bubba Speaks . . . People Should Barf

At the last Salisbury City Council meeting, the bankrupt and child-support cheat who is a member, Gary (“screw the handicapped”) Comegys, delivered another brilliant dissertation. This time he discussed the “line-item” budget format, in which there is a series of specific but separate appropriations. For example, in a particular department (public works, internal affairs, etc.) there might separate “line-items” for normal salary and overtime. To spend funds for a purpose other than that of the appropriation, the Council must first approve the change of purpose, which affords the Council – and the public – with insight about how the budget is being implemented by the City administration

Bubba favors the format that appears in the City’s FY09 budget, which only states a total sum for each department that may be spent for anything pertaining to a department – including a picnic and beer bash, Christmas party, etc. All that’s needed is the mayor’s approval, so that the Council – and the public – can be kept in the dark as has occurred under the administration of Barrie Tilghman.

According to Bubba, in the “line-item” budget format City personnel will spend the entire amount of a line item, regardless of need, simply to avoid not spending the entire amount. He offered no explanation why that is not just as likely in what he wrongly calls the “program” budgetary format that is being used in the FY09 budget over the objection of Councilmembers Campbell and Cohen. Apparently Bubba’s stellar career as a mid-level State of Maryland bureaucrat has infused him with special expertise and acumen in wasting public funds.

In fact, with the budgetary format that Bubba and the two other bobble heads on the City Council (Louise Smith and Shanie Shields) have foisted on the City, it’s much easier for the City administration to waste the appropriated funds by unneeded or absurd spending, because it’s not necessary to get Council approval to shift funds from one line item or another. The entire departmental appropriation can be blown on virtually anything – and nobody need know before it’s a done deal.

Bubba – career bureaucrat and Salisbury official (he’s a true “double-dipper”) – ain’t stupid, folks. He knows how to put his hand in your pocket and extract what you’ve worked hard to get, if you’re stupid enough to let that happen by electing him mayor next year.

Question of the Day, Thur 6/12

June is National Steakhouse month. Where do you go for a good steak? How big? How do you like your steak cooked?

Divorce Letter

Dear Wife:

I'm writing you this letter to tell you that I'm leaving you forever. I've been a good man to you for seven years and I have nothing to show for it.

These last two weeks have been hell. Your boss called to tell me that you quit your job today and that was the last straw.Last week, you came home and didn't even notice that I had a new haircut, had cooked your favorite meal and even wore a brand new pair of silk boxers. You ate in two minutes, and went straight to sleep after watching all of your soaps. You don't tell me you love me anymore; you don't want sex or anything that connects us as husband and wife.

Either you're cheating on me or you don't love me anymore;whatever the case, I'm gone.

Your EX-Husband

P.S. Don't try to find me. Your SISTER and I are moving away to West Virginia together! Have a great life!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Ex-Husband -

Nothing has made my day more than receiving your letter. It's true that you and I have been married for seven years, although a good man is a far cry from what you've been.I watch my soaps so much because they drown out your constant whining and griping. Too bad that doesn't work.

I DID notice when you got a hair cut last week, but the first thing that came to mind was 'You look just like a girl!' Since my mother raised me not to say anything if you can't say
something nice, I didn't comment. And when you cooked my favorite meal, you must have gotten me confused with MY SISTER, because I stopped eating pork seven years ago.

About those new silk boxers: I turned away from you because the $49.99 price tag was still on them, and I prayed that it was a coincidence that my sister had just borrowed fifty dollars from me that morning. After all of this, I still loved you and felt that we could work it out.

So when I hit the lotto for ten million dollars, I quit my job and bought us two tickets to Jamaica. But when I got home you were gone. Everything happens for a reason, I guess. I hope you have the fulfilling life you always wanted. My lawyer said that the letter you wrote ensures you won't get a dime from me. So take care.

Signed,Your Ex-Wife, Rich As Hell and Free!

P.S. I don't know if I ever told you this, but my sister Carla was born Carl. I hope that's not a problem.

Accountability and fiscal responsibility

During the last election the citizens of Wicomico County (and the rest of our country) went to the polls to vote. The results of this vote IS a mandate by the people. It reflects their will. When these mandates are issued, it is the OBLIGATION of those elected to put forth the effort necessary to make these mandates happen. This premise is the basis of our Constitution which was drafted over 200 years ago to assure that "We The People" would remain in control of a nation without tyranny.

In Wicomico County this isn't happening. Prior to the last election, the Deputies from the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office and the Fraternal Order of Police set off on an endeavor to educate the public on the issues that prevent them from having a voice in obtaining a comprehensive disabiliy plan which would protect their families should they be injured or killed while carrying out their duties. The only way to assure that this protection would be put in place and REMAIN IN PLACE would be to grant Collective Bargaining to the Deputies, thereby binding the County by contract to implement this type of plan and maintain it. The voters of Wicomico County agreed - overwhelmingly. Over 71% of Wicomico County residents who voted agreed that this was the proper way to go. A mandate from the people.

Now I don't know about you, but most of the residents with whom I come in contact everyday seem to be intelligent people. They seem capable of making good decisions. This being the case, I don't buy into the opinion expressed by my Councilman, Councilman Holloway, when he told me that he doesn't believe the people knew what they where voting for! Ok......and what part of the Constitution gives any elected official the right to second guess a vote of the people? Do we second guess their vote on the election of people? No. In a legal election a vote of the people is final. Regardless of the personal opinions of our elected officials, once a mandate has been made through a vote of the people, they should get behind it and MAKE IT HAPPEN!

Councilman Cannon had, some time ago, issued a response which, in my opinion, is an eloquent attempt to circumvent the will of the people. What's more is that it is costing the taxpayers of Wicomico County good money. The Wicomico County Council is spending the taxpayers money to fight attempts to enforce the will of the people. How much? Well....it cost the taxpayers $7500.00 to have high paid attorneys from Baltimore draft legislation which failed to enforce the spirit and intent of what we voted for. Rick Pollitt recognized that and vetoed the legislation. The council promptly overrode the veto, signing into law legislation that falls grossly short of the intent of the people. In addition to the $7500.00 mentioned above, it has so far cost the taxpayers of Wicomico County $7700.00 more to have lawyers from Baltimore try to justify to the courts why the voters of Wicomico County shouldn't have a voice. My understanding is that later this month, these lawyers are scheduled to meet with a Judge to discuss how much time they will need to convince that Judge that the vote of the people in Wicomico County doesn't matter. CHA-CHING!

$15,200.00 so far - and it's not over. It's going to be interesting to see the grand total when it's all done. I'll bet one could buy a lot of pens. Fix a few roads? Buy some new text books? Put another Deputy on the road? Give County employees a little more in their paychecks every week? Accountability and fiscal responsibility Council? Indeed!

Blognetnews Is Back To Their Old Ways

Over the past two weeks I have been sending e-mail messages to the administrator at Blognetnews, (the company that rates Blogs across America) telling them that their Site is taking longer and longer to load and their response was simply, they looked into it and there's nothing they can do about it.

Tonight I went to the Site again to look at current news and information and they're back to Pop Up Ads to boot. This was a major problem last year and I don't know why they're back to their old ways but once the Pop Up Ad comes up and you click on the box to stop it, it freezes up your computer again, (just like it did last year) and you have to completely shut down and reboot.

I'm sorry but there's no excuse for this. Bloggers provide ALL of their business and we do so for free. We do all the work, they RSS Feed our Blogs, they get a ton of recognition for our work and then they sell ads from our news. Then they have this screwed up ranking system that puts Blogs that only run one article a day and gets no hits, (maybe 50 a day) at the top of their rankings simply because they Cross Post with other Blogs. Duh, we get how you rate people, CHANGE IT!

Nevertheless, I'll not go back there again except perhaps once a week to laugh at their rating system on Sunday's. Oh well, it was a great resource for information but it's simply too frustrating to go to any more. I'll add, it reminds me of the Daily Times and how it too takes forever to upload. I have only been to the Daily Times twice since they reformatted their Website and that was while I was on my wireless card thingamabopper.

READ MY LIPS, POP UP ADS SUCK and people don't like them.

Youth Onset Parkinson Disease

"Joe

I have been diagnosed with Parkinson Disease and since I'm under 50 years of age it's specifically Youth Onset Parkinson Disease. I'm trying to find via your broad readership other folks that are affected by this as well. There are presently NO formal support groups available in Salisbury or surrounding areas. I'm trying to reach out to those folks as the present numbers affected in the U.S. are around 100,000 (YOPD) . Feel free to call me at the number below if you require additional info as the disease only allows me to 1 finger hunt and peck. I could also meet you in person if needed for further info. I anticipate good things for those affected by the disease locally via meeting those few that are similarly affected."

Arrogance or Corruption at the Wicomico County Liquor Control Board?

The Wicomico County Liquor Control Board, notably commissioners Stewart Haemel and Ron Alessi seem to believe that former Maryland Gov. Bob Ehrlich appointed them lords of their own little fiefdom. Gov. Ehrlich neither possessed the power to do so, nor do I believe that was his intention.

Let's remember, all of the funds taken in by the county dispensary system - less LEGITIMATE expenses - belong to the taxpayer. While Alessi may like to hang out with Salisbury Mayor Barrie Tilghman, that is no excuse for deluding yourself that taxpayer money is his to spend as he wishes.

Yet, we see Alessi being paid for contracting jobs. Haemel and Alessi used TAXPAYER FUNDS to pay for a POLITICAL ADVERTISEMENT. Taxpayer funds were reportedly used to fund a dinner at the Green Hill Country Club to discuss with LCB employees how to fight privatization (another blatantly political purpose). Now Haemel and Alessi are under the delusion that they don't have to comply with a request from Wicomico council members Stevie Prettyman and Joe Holloway to produce copies of the LCB's check register.

Councilman Holloway is right. "Refusal to release the information council requested only creates an air of mistrust and the perception of trying to hide something."

If anything, Holloway is too kind. At a minimum, these two are guilty of a particularly disgusting form of arrogance found only among your worst politicians. Their continued refusal to make the records of a public agency available smells of a cover-up.

What you hiding guys?

coverage of NASA.

"Hey, pal -

Don't send us a cryptic message - if you've got something to say, say it. We
can't write about something we don't know.

On the spaceport stories - we're reporting what is shaking down now. If it's
bogus, we'll report that when it becomes clear. But big plans like these are
always a story.

Also, just a correction - using some quick math and taking a quick look
around the newsroom right now shows we've lived here a combined 95 years. If
you're hacked off about something, don't take it out on the reporter. Let
her know what is going on.

Sincerely,

Ted Shockley"
