Harris Announces $1.3 Million Grant to Easton Airport

WASHINGTON, DC: Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) announced the award of a $1,305,919 federal grant from the Department of Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to the Talbot County Council for a project at the Easton Airport, Newnam Field. Funding originated from the Airport Improvement Program (AIP), and can be used for improvements related to enhancing airport safety, capacity, security, and environmental concerns.

Congressman Harris made the following statement on the award:

“I support our local regional airports and the rural communities they serve on the Eastern Shore. Easton Airport supports quality, good-paying jobs on the Mid-Shore, and during this pandemic, I support getting our rural communities in the First Congressional District the funds they need to continue to operate and thrive.”

Top general: Military will play no role in resolving any electoral dispute

The U.S. military will play no role in resolving any dispute about the election, the country’s top general said in written testimony released Friday. “In the event of a dispute over some aspect of the elections, by law U.S. courts and the U.S. Congress are required to resolve any disputes, not the U.S. military,” Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Mark Milley wrote. “I foresee no role for the U.S. Armed Forces in this process. “I and every member of the Armed Forces take an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States, and to follow the lawful orders of the chain of command,” he continued. “We will not turn our backs on the Constitution of the United States.”Milley’s comments came in response to questions for the record from Reps. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.) and Mikie Sherrill (D-N.J.) that the pair had submitted to him after a House Armed Services Committee hearing last month.
The same questions were sent to Defense Secretary Mark Esper, but the lawmakers said he has not responded yet.

REPORT: WHITE HOUSE TO RELEASE ‘DOSSIER’ OF FAKE NEWS REPORTERS

“They are a disgrace to journalism and the American people”

The Washington Post reports that The White House has been prompted to compile a dossier of ‘false’ claims by reporters about President Trump, after the Post itself published a story with the headline “Room rentals, resort fees and furniture removal: How Trump’s company charged the U.S. government more than $900,000.”

“The Washington Post is blatantly interfering with the business relationships of the Trump Organization, and it must stop,” said Deputy White House press secretary Judd Deere.

“Please be advised that we are building up a very large ‘dossier’ on the many false David Fahrenthold and others stories as they are a disgrace to journalism and the American people,” Deere added, referring to the Post reporter.

The story claims that federal agencies have racked up bills totalling almost $1 million at Trump Organization properties since President Trump took office.

Nancy Pelosi admits Joe Biden is no match for President Trump in upcoming debates.

The report also claims that the Trump properties repeatedly charged the Secret Service for “resort” and “furniture removal” fees, as well as doing deals with government agencies to block book rooms for a fortnight at a time, in case Trump needed to travel.

Harris Urges In-person Polling Location on Smith Island

WASHINGTON, DC: Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) On Friday wrote to the Somerset County Board of Elections urging them to have an in-person polling location for the November 3rd election on Smith Island.  Currently, there will not be a polling place on the island on election day or for early voting.  Governor Hogan has stated that Maryland will not hold a vote by mail-only election and that each citizen should have the right to vote in person.  A copy of Dr. Harris’s letter is attached.
Congressman Harris made the following statement:
“Governor Hogan has made it clear that each Marylander should have the option to vote in person in the federal election this fall.  Smith Island is remote and requires paid ferry service to the mainland, where Somerset County will have a polling location.  Given the costs of travel and unpredictability of weather that could impede getting to the mainland, my constituents on Smith Island who wish to vote in person could very well be disenfranchised of their Constitutional right on election day.  I urge the Somerset County Board of Elections to rectify this situation.”

TRUMP: BIDEN NOW CONDEMNING RIOTING ‘BECAUSE HIS POLL NUMBERS ARE GOING DOWN LIKE A ROCK’

Democrats and leftists find an angle on violence by claiming it is ‘Trump’s America’

President Trump mocked Joe Biden and the Democrats in his RNC speech last night, saying that it’s ‘too late’ to start finally addressing violence and rioting throughout America’s cities now their ‘poll numbers are going down like a rock’.

“Joe Biden and his supporters remained completely silent about the rioters and criminals spreading mayhem in Democrat-run cities. They never even mentioned it during their entire convention,” Trump urged.

“Now, they’re starting to mention it because their poll numbers are going down like a rock in water,” Trump proclaimed, adding “Too late, Joe.”

Injunction barring Richmond from removing monument tossed

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The Virginia Supreme Court has tossed out an injunction handed down by a Richmond judge that barred officials from removing the only remaining Confederate monument owned by the city.
Richmond Circuit Judge Bradley Cavedo issued a 60-day injunction in July shortly after Mayor Levar Stoney ordered the removal of the city’s Confederate monuments, using authority under a local emergency order, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported Thursday.
Stoney appealed the decision, and the Supreme Court ruled in his favor on Wednesday. The decision could clear the way for the removal of the city-controlled statue of Confederate Gen. A.P. Hill, who is buried at the site.

Texas County drops from 4,600+ Active Covid case to under 100 after audit

Coronavirus impact has been politically exploited and grossly overstated

Doubting the accuracy of State of Texas Covid-19 numbers, Collin Co., Texas, dropped its active case numbers from over 4600 to under 100 overnight after an audit.

Earlier this month, Collin Co.’s ‘Covid-19 Dashboard’ claimed over 4600 active cases in the county based on data provided by the Texas Dept. of State Health Services, prompting county officials to question the accuracy of the data because, presumably, the county’s hospitals weren’t overloaded.

Will Pelosi become President if there is no election result by January?

"President Trump's term ends at precisely noon on Jan. 20, 2021. If the Electoral College has not yet named a successor, presumably either Donald Trump or Joe Biden, then whoever is the speaker of the House would become the acting president of the United States."
Fox News senior judicial analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano told "Varney & Co." on Thursday whether Pelosi would automatically assume the role of acting president if the 2020 election is delayed."It might be right," Napolitano told host Stuart Varney.
He explained, "If the Democrats retain their majority in the House, and it appears likely that they will, but if they do, and if they choose Mrs. Pelosi, knowing at that point that they're choosing the president of the United States, then it would be she."

Governor Hogan Announces Maryland Selected for Workforce Development Pilot Program to Combat Opioid Epidemic

State Receives $4.6 Million in Federal Funding for New InitiativeMore Than 700 Marylanders To Participate In Program for Job Training and Recovery Services
ANNAPOLIS, MD—Governor Larry Hogan announced Friday, that Maryland is one of only four states in the nation selected to participate in a new initiative to provide job training and other services to workers in communities significantly affected by the opioid crisis. The U.S. Department of Labor has awarded $4.6 million in funding to the Maryland Department of Labor for the new “Support to Communities: Fostering Opioid Recovery through Workforce Development” pilot program, which will address the health and economic impacts of widespread substance and opioid misuse, addiction, and overdose.
Governor Hogan and U.S. Labor Secretary Eugene Scalia discussed the new initiative during a call earlier this week.
"During Maryland's response to COVID-19, our administration has remained committed to combating the opioid and substance abuse crisis, which has affected far too many families and taken far too many lives across our state and our nation," said Governor Hogan. "This funding is another powerful tool we can use to support Marylanders in the communities hit hardest by the opioid epidemic. I had the chance to thank Secretary Scalia and discuss Maryland’s role in advancing this new national initiative.”
The Maryland Department of Labor will direct the awarded funds to seven diverse Local Workforce Areas, representing 14 jurisdictions across the state that have experienced negative social and economic impacts as a result of the opioid crisis. More than 700 Marylanders are anticipated to participate in the new pilot program, which will provide participants with job training and recovery services, leading to employment in 14 high-demand industries and occupations.
“Our department is very thankful to receive this funding from the U.S. Department of Labor, so we can continue to help Marylanders acquire the skills, tools, and support they need to overcome workforce challenges related to opioid and substance abuse,” said Secretary Tiffany Robinson of the Maryland Department of Labor. “This funding could not have come at a more critical time and will give those impacted by the opioid epidemic hope for a better tomorrow."
The 14 jurisdictions that will receive funds include Allegany, Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Caroline, Cecil, Dorchester, Frederick, Garrett, Harford, Kent, Talbot, Queen Anne’s, and Washington counties and Baltimore City.

“Job skills training can have profound benefits for those embarking on the journey of recovery,” said Steve Schuh, Executive Director of Maryland’s Opioid Operational Command Center. “By creating opportunities for Marylanders to learn new job skills, we create opportunities for Marylanders to enhance their recoveries and unlock further successes.”
Since 2018, the Maryland Department of Labor has been awarded more than $7 million in federal funding to combat the opioid crisis through the use of innovative workforce strategies. Most recently, the department sub-granted nearly $500,000 to Maryland New Directions and PIVOT, two Baltimore-based non-profit organizations, to connect women impacted by the opioid crisis to occupational training, employment opportunities, and integrated supportive services.

Waking the Sleeping Giant

In recent weeks, not only have we seen some very large holes punched in the narrative of what happened to George Floyd, but we’ve also seen the very thin veil come off, as the “peaceful protests” by Black Lives Matter and Antifa rapidly devolved into perhaps the worst string of violent riots the country has ever seen. As of this writing, the city of Portland, Oregon has been host to violent riots for 86 days straight -- nearly three months of chaos.

As we all know, violence in the name of outrage (or really in the name of anything) is nothing new for the Left. No one is quicker to protest violence by smashing your face with a brick than the tolerant, loving Left. No one understands better than the Left that the way to fight perceived racism in America is with even stronger and more brazen racism. No one -- not even L. Frank Baum -- could construct a better Straw Man to rail against than the Left, and they've built one to rival Burning Man against President Trump (see Trump as racist, sexist, homophobe, Islamaphobe, et al).

Sheriff recommends residents use guns to blow criminal rioters 'out of their house'

'People of Polk County like guns. They have guns. I encourage them to own guns'

Polk County, Florida, Sheriff Grady Judd affirms he's all for peaceful protests, and he has simple, straightforward advice for citizens when a demonstration turns violent and threatens their homes.

"The people of Polk County like guns. They have guns. I encourage them to own guns," he said at a news conference on June 1. "They're going to be in their homes tonight, with guns loaded, and if you try to break into their homes to steal, to set fires, I'm highly recommending they blow you back out of their house with the guns."

1 in 5 churches facing permanent closure within 18 months

(CHRISTIAN POST) – As many as one in five churches could permanently close as a result of shutdowns stemming from the coronavirus pandemic, according to David Kinnaman, president of the prominent Christian research organization Barna Group.

In an interview with NPR Monday regarding the status of American churches after months of shutdowns, Kinnaman said although churches were handling things "pretty swimmingly" at first, circumstances have changed for some.

He noted that although many churches have opened as states' shutdown orders are loosened, their services have had "a lot less people coming."

Mitt Romney’s Failed Presidential Campaign Staffers Join Bush, McCain Allies to Elect Joe Biden

Staffers from Sen. Mitt Romney’s (R-UT) failed 2012 presidential campaign are joining former staffers of President George W. Bush and the late John McCain to help elect Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden and his running mate, Kamala Harris.

Thirty-four former Romney staffers have signed onto the group “Romney Alumni for Biden” where they accuse President Trump’s of leading the United States “in the wrong direction” and say the nation needs Biden-Harris in the White House to usher in a “mantle of global leadership.”

They write in an open letter:

What unites us now is a deep conviction that four more years of a Trump presidency will morally bankrupt this country, irreparably damage our democracy, and permanently transform the Republican Party into a toxic personality cult.

We can’t sit by and allow that to happen.

As lifelong Republicans, we came to this conclusion in different ways and at different times. Some of us voted for Trump in 2016, excited for a no-nonsense political outsider to take on the Washington status quo. Many others never supported him to begin with, shocked that a party committed to the ideals of personal responsibility and patriotic duty would nominate an unhinged narcissist that routinely conflates loyalty to himself with love for country.

Baltimore Suspends Recycling Pickup Due to Coronavirus Trash Backlog

Recycling pickup is suspended in Baltimore starting August 31 in order to address the coronavirus-related trash backlog, the Department of Public Works (DPW) announced Thursday.

“We’ve reached our breaking point,” Acting Director Matthew W. Garbark said during a press conference, according to CBS Baltimore.

The report continued:

By cancelling curbside recycling pickup, DPW officials say their employees and contractors can focus on trash pick up. The coronavirus pandemic has increased the amount of residential trash in the city, officials said, as well as leading to come employees contracting the virus.

Following the first outbreak of the coronavirus at one of its facilities, a second was reported on July 17 at another facility and the departmentsent everyone except a few workers home to quarantine and closed the landfill for two days.

Politico: U.S. Chamber of Commerce to Side with Democrats in 2020 Election

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is expected to back more than 20 Democrat House candidates in the 2020 election, according to an August 27 report in Politico.

The support for 20-plus Democrats comes as the GOP tries to gain 17 extra seats and control of the House this November.

“Grassroots Republicans have long accused the Chamber of Commerce of selling out conservative values, so it’s not surprising to see them come out of the closet as full-on Democrat partisans,” a former official in President Donald Trump’s White House said.

Politico reported:

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is poised to endorse nearly two dozen freshmen House Democrats for reelection, triggering a revolt within the right-leaning organization and drawing fierce pushback from the group’s powerful GOP donors.

The decision represents a sharp departure for the traditionally conservative Chamber, which has spent over $100 million backing Republican candidates during the past decade, and it threatens to further complicate the party’s prospects in the November election while driving a split in the business community.

Chamber leaders — including President Suzanne Clark, Chief Executive Officer Tom Donahue and Executive Vice President Neil Bradley — have been pushing the proposal ahead of a Thursday committee vote to finalize a slate of 2020 endorsements.

Democrats Are Freaking Out, And They Should Be

The New York Times ran an article Wednesday about how voters in Wisconsin are responding to the riots by switching their support to Donald Trump. This is a very strange thing to see in the progressive Gray Lady. Anybody who follows the paper and its politics closely knows exactly what is happening here. It is a desperate plea to Democrats to change their tune on the violence sweeping across American cities.

And Democrats seem to understand this as well. Joe Biden released a video Wednesday in which he provided his clearest condemnation of the riots, looting, arson, assault, and destruction of property committed by left-wing “protesters.” Biden said that while protesting was utterly American, these acts are not. He said they were wrong. He did not however, tell people specifically to stop and more importantly, he made no suggestion as to what government and law enforcement should do to stop it.

As Sports Media Cheers On Athlete Boycotts, Fans Will Walk Away

Humanity is entertained by competition of all kinds. The pandemic has shown sports fans will find a new way to cheer and chant and boo.

It is sometimes underappreciated how new professional sports is as a dominant cultural phenomenon. For the vast majority of human history, sports has been overwhelmingly played by amateurs. And even in America, it is only in the past fifty years that this professionalized version of sport became a route to wealth. Baseball, which has the longest professional sports history in the United States, illustrates this: the average MLB salary is up an inflation-adjusted 3,000 percent since the late 1960s. Professional sports only became big money in the era of television, as a form of mass entertainment that did not require you to even go to the games to have a rooting interest, and for the multinational corporations to sell you beer and trucks and sugary gas-infused water.

This is not to denigrate professional sports or to suggest that the Olympics are more entertaining than the NFL. Pro athletes who play the games do incredible things. Pro sports is profoundly enjoyable as entertainment, and as human drama there are few things that can match it. But on a certain level, this Seinfeld comment may be his most true observation: you’re rooting for laundry. The same player you loved in one uniform, whose strengths you valued and whose failures you dismissed as quirks of the trade, becomes nothing but a hated rival, a traitor, who took the money instead of playing for less while garbed in the proper colors.

2020 Nightmare: Armies Of Lawyers Ready To Fight A Long Legal Battle Over Election Results

Armies of lawyers have already been recruited, reasons to question the legitimacy of the 2020 election results are already being floated, and top politicians on both sides are already urging a fight to the bitter end.

Initially, it appeared that we might avoid this sort of a scenario. For several months Joe Biden had a large lead in all of the major national polls, and some people were even discussing the possibility of a “landslide”. But now the polls are tightening up, and this is especially true in the swing states which will ultimately decide the outcome of the election. If the race is quite tight once we get to election night, it is likely that neither side will be willing to concede until every conceivable legal challenge is completely exhausted.

That could mean an extended legal battle lasting for months, and that is something that none of us should want to see.
