Trump Hits Back At China With 30% Tariffs On $250 Billion Of Chinese Goods
President Donald Trump retaliated against China’s Friday announcement that it is increasing tariffs on U.S. goods by increasing tariffs to as much as 30% on $250 billion of Chinese goods.
The tariffs will be implemented on Oct. 1 on top of an additional 15% tariff on $300 billion of Chinese goods set to go into effect on Sept. 1 that was originally set at 10%.
“For many years China (and many other countries) has been taking advantage of the United States on Trade, Intellectual Property Theft, and much more. Our Country has been losing HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS OF DOLLARS a year to China, with no end in sight,” Trump said in a series of Twitter posts.

Vietnam Vet's Death Ruled Homicide Amid Investigation into Deaths at VA Hospital
A Ritchie County woman says her father was one of about 10 patients who died at the Veterans Affairs medical center in Clarksburg after they were wrongfully injected with insulin by a person who is known to federal administrators through an investigation into the deaths.
A deputy medical examiner with the U.S. Department of Defense ruled the death of Felix "Kirk" McDermott a homicide during an investigation by the VA Inspector General's Office into the suspicious deaths of patients at the Louis A. Johnson VA Hospital, according to a statement of claim submitted to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
Investigators for Veterans Affairs have identified a person of interest in the case, but they have not disclosed the identity of that person to McDermott's family, and no criminal charges have been filed in the case, according to the claim.

Hasbro Has a New 'Monopoly: Socialism' Game and Socialists Are Not Happy
A few weeks ago, my wife and I took a deep breath and then reluctantly replied "sure" to our kids' request that we play Monopoly for family game night. As most of us can attest, Monopoly requires a level of commitment that no family game night should require, and it's not really that fun to begin with. Hasbro's new "Monopoly: Socialism," though, sounds like a hoot and a great way to continue to teach my kids why socialism is for the math-, economics-, and history-challenged among us.
Sadly, I have been completely unaware of this new game that mocks socialism as only a brilliant capitalist company can. It was only after stumbling across a Twitter thread composed by a deeply offended socialist that "Monopoly: Socialism" entered my consciousness. So, thank you, Twitter and upset socialist dude.

One Quarter of Germans Now Come From Migrant Backgrounds
The number of migrant-background residents in Germany has reached a new all-time high at 25.5 percent of the population, and a significant 42 per cent of young children in Germany are of migrant backgrounds.
The new statistics come from a report released by the German Federal Statistical Office this week which states there are now 20.8 million German residents who come from migrant backgrounds, defined by having at least one parent born overseas, Kronen Zeitung reports.
Of those 20.8 million, just over half, or 52 percent, hold a German passport, with the other 48 percent being citizens of foreign countries.
The report states that 13.5 million German residents are immigrants and found that that main motivation for moving to the country, which was seen in 48 percent of cases, was family reunification, also known as chain migration.

Democrats have until Aug. 28 cutoff to qualify for the next presidential debate, and more than half the field is at risk of being left out. That could be fatal for already-wounded campaigns that could be pushed from the campaign altogether if they don’t find the 130,000 donors and four qualifying polls where they’ve hit at least 2% support in early-voting states.
“The debates ... they're pretty much the only thing that matters,” said GOP strategist Alex Conant, who was a senior adviser on Sen. Marco Rubio’s (R-Fla.) 2016 campaign.
Conant said any politicians who stick around after failing to qualify for the debates “immediately become zombie candidates. Maybe they stay in the race but they won’t get media coverage, money or have any plausible path to the nomination.”

Trump says US businesses are 'ordered' to find alternatives to China trade
President Trump on Friday directed all U.S. businesses to immediately find alternative sources for any goods they were importing from China. The comments came in response to China's announcement earlier in the day that it was enacting additional tariffs on $75 billion worth of U.S. goods.
"Our great American companies are hereby ordered to immediately start looking for an alternative to China, including bringing your companies HOME and making your products in the USA," Trump tweeted, adding, "I will be responding to China’s Tariffs this afternoon."
It was not clear from the tweets what precisely Trump meant by "ordered" or how he intended to enforce this directive. Nor did he offer any details on what the planned response to China's tariffs response would be.

According to a staff memo updating Senators Grassley (R-IA) and Ron Johnson (R-WI), James Comey failed to review highly classified evidence in Hillary Clinton’s email investigation.
Even worse, Comey would not give investigators access to the evidence even though they needed it to resolve important questions related to Hillary Clinton’s private server.
Senate investigators have wanted answers on this for over a year and the FBI is still stonewalling.
To add to the frustration, Attorney General Bill Barr still has not responded to a classified letter previously written by Grassley and Johnson addressing this issue.

SALT LAKE CITY — When Vice President Mike Pence stepped off Air Force Two on Wednesday, 10-year-old Alex Taylor was waiting on the tarmac — alongside his mother, Jennie, and Gov. Gary Herbert — in a gray suit too warm for the blazing early evening sun.
Alex, the son of the late Utah National Guard Maj. Brent Taylor, who was killed in an insider attack on a Kabul, Afghanistan, training center in November 2018, described being part of the welcoming party and meeting the vice president as “really cool” as he clutched a commemorative Air Force Two coin he’d received as a gift.

Pelosi again brakes Democrats on impeachment: 'The public isn’t there yet'
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is still a hard “no” on impeachment.
Even though more than half of House Democrats have lined up in support of launching a formal impeachment inquiry into President Trump, the California Democrat isn’t backing it.
She told her Democratic caucus in a Friday conference call that the voting public doesn’t support impeaching the president and that is who she will listen to on the subject.
