At the same time that President Trump swore in Senator Jeff Sessions as Attorney General, he signed three executive actions on crime and public safety, including one that targets drug cartels.
"I'm signing three executive actions today designed to restore safety in America,” Trump said in the Oval Office after swearing in Jeff Sessions as attorney general.
"These dangerous times require a determined attorney general," Trump said at an Oval Office ceremony for Sessions, who said rising crime is a "dangerous, permanent trend" in the United States and also promised to "end this lawlessness" of illegal immigration.
It's unclear what any of the actions would do precisely, and the White House did not immediately provide copies of what Trump had signed. Trump said he is directing the Departments of Justice and Homeland Security “to undertake all necessary and lawful actions to break the back of the criminal cartels that have spread across our nation and destroying the blood of our youth.”
Another action, Trump said, establishes a Justice Department task force aimed at reducing violent crime and orders the agency to develop a plan to stop crimes against law enforcement officers, or as Reuters put it, an executive order directing the DOJ to create a plan to "stop crime."
Crushing crime with the stroke of a pen.

Mom deported to Mexico amid Phoenix protests
PHOENIX -- The deportation of an immigrant mother in Phoenix who was granted leniency during the Obama administration provides an early example of how President Trump plans to carry through on his vow to crack down on illegal immigration.
The case of Guadalupe Garcia de Rayos became a rallying cry Thursday for immigrant groups who believe Mr. Trump’s approach to immigration unfairly tears apart families. Her arrest prompted a vocal demonstration in downtown Phoenix as protesters blocked enforcement vans from leaving a U.S. immigration office. Seven people were arrested.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confirmed to CBS News that Garcia was deported to Mexico Thursday morning. Garcia was the subject of a court-issued removal order that became final in July 2013 after going through multiple levels of the immigration court system, ICE said in a statement.

In race to run the Democratic Party, common sense has already lost
The Democratic Party isn’t interested in an electoral autopsy. The slow-motion disaster of its search for a new Democratic National Committee chair proves it.
Unlike the Republicans, who commissioned one quickly after Mitt Romney’s defeat to President Barack Obama in 2012, many on the left have coped with Hillary Clinton’s stunning loss by sticking their heads deeper into the sand of California’s lovely beaches.
Besides, as far as Dems are concerned, who needs a lessons-learned study: Hillary won the popular vote, and only because of the archaic, backward and (sure, why not?) racist Electoral College did Donald Trump steal the presidency from a woman who deserved it more than anybody else. To many Democrats, winning the popular vote was clearly a validation of their party’s platform, if not a mandate to move further left.
Just look at the slate of candidates for DNC chair.
Among the eight official candidates, only two have a serious chance of winning: Minnesota Rep. Keith Ellison and President Barack Obama’s former secretary of labor, Thomas Perez.

Report: Saudis Paying to Get Vets to Oppose 9/11 Law
Saudi Arabia is paying a public relations firm to convince American veterans to go to Washington, D.C. and tell members of Congress they oppose a new federal law that allows civil lawsuits against state sponsors of terrorism, The Daily Caller reports.
And the Saudi government appears to be paying for luxurious trips to Capitol Hill for the vets, including stays at the $500-per-night Trump International Hotel, the website claims.
The Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA) allows Americans to file civil claims against foreign governments. The court cases are permitted for terrorist attacks taking place in the U.S. and carried out by designated foreign terrorist groups. It was enacted to help families of victims in the 9/11 attack.
Republican senators John McCain of Arizona and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina have proposed an amendment that would allow Americans to sue governments for any attacks only if the nations "knowingly engage with a terrorist organization directly or indirectly, including financing," The Daily Caller says.
Now, Saudi Arabia is paying the public relations firm, Qorvis MSLGROUP, to lobby for the amendment, the website says.

Democrats Think Muslims Worse Off Here Than Christians Are In Muslim World
Most voters agree that Christians living in Muslim-majority countries are mistreated for their religion. But Democrats are more likely to think Muslims are mistreated in America than to think Christians are persecuted in the Islamic world.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 62% of Likely U.S. Voters believe most Christians living in the Islamic world are treated unfairly because of their religion. Just 17% disagree, while 21% more are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)
These findings have changed little in surveys since early 2015.
By comparison, 39% feel most Muslims living in the United States are treated unfairly because of their religion. That’s up from 31% last year and is the highest finding in surveys to date. A plurality (46%) still believes Muslims are not treated unfairly because of their faith, while 15% more are not sure.

UC Berkeley police defend 'hands-off' approach to riot
University of California, Berkeley police defended its decision to take a hands-off approach in its effort to handle the riot that took place on campus last week ahead of Breitbart editor Milo Yiannopoulos’ speech to Republicans at the school.
A group of about 150 rioters overtook peaceful protesters and used metal rods, Molotov cocktails and commercial-grade fireworks to destroy parts of downtown Berkeley while police largely stood to the side. Raging fires were also set on campus. The damaged total about $100,000 and only one person was arrested.
Berkeley police Sgt. Sabrina Reich said officers feared increased violence and more serious injuries if the violence escalated accompanied by a heavier-handed police response. Investigators are reviewing extensive video taken during the protest and more arrests are possible, she said.
Several officers did fire paint-ball like guns to mark rioters for detention and their possible arrest, she said. But if officers had made more arrests at the scene, up to three officers would have had to give up crowd control duty to escort each suspected rioter to jail, Reich said.

Why the Democrats Dissed DeVos
The Senate Tuesday finally cleared the way for Betsy DeVos to take over as head of the Department of Education — but just barely.
Last week, DeVos' nomination fell in danger after two teacher union-supported Republicans (Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine) opted to join Democrat obstructionists. This put the Senate in a 50/50 split, leaving absolutely no room to spare, which always opens the door for backroom deals being cut over future legislation. Vice President Mike Pence cast the pivotal tie-breaker vote in the Senate.
Never before has a cabinet confirmation come down to a tie-breaker, and the reason this one did is because DeVos is a threat to the Democrats' stranglehold on shaping the worldview of the next generation of Americans.
Not only is the vote historic, but the role DeVos will play in America’s future may well be too. She stands ready to upend the Democrats' government school status quo, especially their urban poverty plantation schools.
The situation is so crucial that public policy protagonist Thomas Sowell temporarily came out of retirement to lobby on her behalf. He warned, “American education is at a crossroads. If the teachers' unions and their allies can defeat the nomination of Mrs. DeVos, and the Republicans substitute someone else more acceptable to the education establishment, a historic opportunity will be lost, and may never come again in this generation.”

Ted Cruz, audience members, tore Bernie Sanders to shreds in debate
He's lucky no one watches CNN
Often, people will ask me: "Hey Rob, if Bernie had been the nominee, he would have won, right?"
My answer is always the same. "He probably would have done a little better."
Would he have won? I doubt it. The fact is, had Bernie secured the nomination, he would have been forced to lay out his vision for America. Then, he'd have been forced to defend it. That's where the trouble would have come in. Bernie may have the love of the radical left, but he's still a crazy old coot who would have faced the nigh-impossible task of trying to sell middle-America on his ridiculous socialist agenda.

Ted Cruz Defends Jeff Sessions: ‘The Democrats Are the Party of the Ku Klux Klan’
Texas Senator Ted Cruz defended his fellow Republican senator and Donald Trump‘s pick for attorney general, Jeff Sessions, on Fox News Wednesday, noting it was the Democratic Party that had a history of racism.
Cruz defended the vote to temporarily block Elizabeth Warren from debating on the Senate floor after she read a letter from Coretta Scott King that accused Sessions of trying to keep blacks from voting, calling it a false smear. “It’s one of the crutches — when the left doesn’t have any other arguments, they go and just accuse everyone of being a racist,” Cruz said.
“The Democrats are the party of the Ku Klux Klan,” Cruz continued. “You look at the most racist — you look at the Dixiecrats, they were Democrats who imposed segregation, imposed Jim Crow laws, who founded the Klan. The Klan was founded by a great many Democrats.”

Mississippi Considers Firing Squad As Method Of Execution
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi lawmakers are advancing a proposal to add firing squad, electrocution and gas chamber as execution methods in case a court blocks the use of lethal injection drugs.
House Bill 638 is a response to lawsuits filed by “liberal, left-wing radicals,” said House Judiciary B Committee Chairman Andy Gipson, a Republican.
The bill passed the House amid opposition Wednesday, and it moves to the Senate for more debate.
Lethal injection is Mississippi’s only execution method. The state faces lawsuits claiming the drugs it plans to use would violate constitutional prohibitions against cruel and unusual punishment.

91 Percent of HS Students Back First Amendment For Unpopular Views
First Amendment support is climbing among high school students, and is stronger today than it's been in the last 12 years, according to a survey on the issue.
A Knight Foundation survey conducted last year found 91 percent of high school students say they believe that individuals should be allowed to express unpopular opinions.
"What we've seen since 2004 is a slow but steady increase in support," Kenneth Dautrich, the study's lead author and the president of the Stats Group, a statistical and data services firm, told the New York Times.

Your ex could get you free wings this Valentine's Day
If you’re single on Valentine’s Day, at least one business wants to help mend your lonely heart. Hooters is taking on being single on Valentine’s Day with a unique solution…and it will allow you to get out any residual feelings for your ex’s.
On Feb. 14, Hooters restaurants are offering to “shred your ex” for free wings. Participating locations are giving away 10 free boneless wings when restaurant-goers purchase an order of 10 wings. The only catch, patrons must shred a picture of an ex.
There are two ways to redeem an old lover for a plate of wings: Online gives the option to shred, burn, bury or dart a digital picture of an ex in order to access a digital coupon, or restaurant guests can bring a photo into a Hooters location and let them do the dirty work.
This will be the second year that Hooters has offered to “shred em and forget em.” Last year, over 25,000 people disposed of their ex for free food.

Over capacity, too few users blamed for water troubles
Pocomoke City’s water troubles are caused by too much storage and not enough people making use of the service, resulting in stale water containing deposits of iron and other materials being fed into the town’s homes, according to GMB consultants, the firm hired by the town to identify the source of the problem.
Testing concluded the water leaving the plant contained no iron, or any of the other deposits that might cause the water to have an unpleasant odor, color and taste. The sediment-rich solution from the taps would also clog filters and stain clothing, dishware and houses washed with the substance. Several people have claimed the town’s water had changed the color of their hair.
Scott Getchell, the project manager for GMB on the Pocomoke City water problem, explained to the council Monday evening that the computer simulation of the town’s system yielded some answers to the town’s questions.
“It’s evident to us that the flows in the southern part of town are greatly diminished,” he said. “There’s sizable plumbing in the area, and a lot more storage than users.”
Getchell explained that as water in the pipes stagnates, it becomes more acidic and is therefore more likely to chemically interact with the transport pipes. The interaction creates the sediment, color and odor residents are complaining about.
