2nd Amendment protects more than just guns

Key ruling for man sent to jail for item in car

The Connecticut Supreme Court has reversed the conviction of a man who was found to have war memorabilia in his car, including a dirk knife and a police baton, while he was moving from one residence to another.

The non-profit advocacy group Knife Rights said the decision affirmed knives are arms protected by the Second Amendment in a case with potential wider implications.

The case centered on the transportation of Jason DeCiccio’s weapons collection, including knives, in his move from Connecticut to a rental in Bolton, Massachusetts, where he was to take a job as a claims processor at the Veterans Administration.

“The defendant originally was convicted for having a weapon in a motor vehicle, a violation of Connecticut’s harsh anti-weapons laws,” Knife Rights said.

But the court noted the Second Amendment “protects the defendant’s right to possess the dirk knife – in his home and, second, that the statute’s complete ban on transporting those items between residences unduly burdens that right.”

The court said the “safe transportation of weapons protected by the Second Amendment is an essential corollary of the right to possess them in the home for self-defense when such transportation is necessary to effectuate that right.”

DeCiccio was injured in a traffic accident and taken to a hospital, where he became “disoriented and combative.”

Son's Christmas gift leaves parents in tears

In a video sure to make many rethink the gifts they gave their parents this holiday season, a son handed his mother and father a present that made them weep: A note letting them know he'd paid off their mortgage.

In the video posted to Youtube Thursday and shared on Reddit, Joseph Riquelme sits between his mother and father. "I have one more gift for you," he says, pulling a small envelope from a sweatshirt pocket. "For both of you."

His mother reads the note inside and her reaction is almost immediate as she begins laughing and crying at the same time. His father reads the note, wipes his eyes and then hugs his son.

NYPD Killer Stole Gun Used in 2011 Crime

NYPD officer killer Ismaaiyl Brinsley previously acquired guns by stealing them, according to a new report.

According to ABC 13 WHAM, Brinsley pleaded guilty to “theft, property damage, possession of a gun by a felon and discharging a gun near a public park” in Cobb County, Georgia in 2011.The gun he used in the crime was a .25 caliber semi-automatic which he stole before opening fire on a gold Chevy Malibu.

In that instance, no amount of gun control would have stopped Brinsley: He sidestepped every law to acquire his firearm unlawfully.

The same situation took place in Newtown, Connecticut, in 2012, where Adam Lanza bypassed gun control laws by stealing his guns, then using them to carry out his murderous attack on Sandy Hook Elementary.

Why every newborn you see on Facebook is wrapped in the same baby blanket

The morning after my second daughter was born I took her picture—she was beautiful, serene—and posted it on Facebook. There was much my Facebook friends could surmise from the photo, and much that marketers could mine: her date of birth and her eye color and her name, for instance. But what they knew for certain was that Athena had been born at the hospital.

The dead giveaway? The blanket.

You’ve seen the one, whether you’ve had a baby or not: it is mostly white, with thick blue and thinner pink stripes at the edges. If you’re on Facebook or Instagram, you’ve seen it tens, maybe hundreds of times.

Experts: North Korea did not hack Sony, studio insider Lena may have

The FBI just last week confirmed what many Americans already assumed to be a forgone conclusion when they revealed there was conclusive evidence that North Korea's government was behind the hacking of Sony, an attack the government bureau said was carried out as a way 'to inflict significant harm on a U.S. business and suppress the right of American citizens to express themselves.'

Then, in a press conference on Friday, President Obama not only attacked North Korea and leader Kim Jong-un for their attempts to 'intimidate' Americans through their actions, but went so far as to warn the country that America would retaliate in response their actions.

Almost immediately the North Korean leader issued a statement denying involvement and demanding an apology from the United States for their 'evil doings.'

And while that apology is probably never coming, it seems that Kim Jong-un may be right, at least according to numerous cybersecurity experts and hackers who have come forward to not only point out the flaws in the FBI's investigation, but also possibly reveal the identity of the culprit.

One Woman’s Letter to Her Ex-husband’s New Wife is Going Super Viral and It’s Not Hard to See Why

A woman named Candice Curry wrote a letter to her ex-husband’s new wife Ashley Parish, and the reception of the letter has been off the charts.

Here is the full letter from Curry’s Women With Worth blog via our friends at Young Cons. Take a look for yourself.

To My Daughter’s Stepmom,

I never wanted you here. You simply were never part of the plan. Growing up and dreaming of my family I never included you. I didn’t want help from another woman to raise my child. The plan was for my family to include me, daddy and our children, not you. I doubt you ever wanted me in your life. I doubt you planned to mother a child that you didn’t give birth to. I can bet that your plan for your family included you, daddy and your children together, not me or my daughter. I can almost bet that when you dreamed of becoming a mother it would be the day you gave birth and not the day you married your husband. I’m pretty sure you never planned on me being here.

But God has plans that far exceed our own and when my little family dissolved to form two families I knew you would be coming.

Kim Jong-un gets a drag queen makeover as revenge for Sony hack

The announcement by Sony last week that they would not be releasing the upcoming Kim Jong-un assassination film The Interview shocked many, especially when government officials confirmed that it was in fact North Korea who was behind the massive hacking of the movie studio.

Their success was short lived however, as just days later, Sony reversed their decision, deciding to put the film in selected theaters across the country while also releasing it on video on demand on Christmas day.

And now, North Korea and their Supreme Leader are getting mocked again thanks to a new photo sweeping social media that shows the stoic and stern Kim Jong-un with a full face of make-up and the hashtag ‪'#‎YouCantSilenceOurFreedomOfSpeech‬.'

CRISFIELD, Md. (AP) — Maryland’s official state dessert has apparently become a holiday tradition for many outside the state.

The five-year-old business on remote Smith Island in the Chesapeake Bay has had so much demand it’s doing its baking both on the island and in an old seafood restaurant in Crisfield, back on the mainland.

Bruce Willis Ticks Off Liberals With Blunt Christmas Message to the Troops

There aren’t many in the liberal folds of the Hollywood elite who would be brave enough to actually say the words, “Merry Christmas” and show support for our troops serving overseas during the holidays.

But one action hero puts both Hollywood and national politics aside during this time of the year, as he took the time several years ago to join a USO tour just to get a taste of what U.S. military troops go through around this time of year.

It’s always about Al

Anyone surprised Al Sharpton’s immediate reaction to the execution of two cops was how this will affect Al Sharpton?

As news broke of the shooting of Officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos, Sharpton issued a condemnation. But he also worried it might derail “the pursuit of justice” in the Eric Garner and Michael Brown cases. And he played a phone recording of death threats against him filled with racial slurs.

The Rev effectively draws a moral parallel between the deaths of Garner and Brown — both of whom died, regretfully, while resisting arrest — and Officers Liu and Ramos, who were shot point blank while defending New Yorkers from criminals.

Throughout Sharpton’s career, from the Freddy’s Fashion Mart killings to the ambush of these officers, his causes have been attended by violence. Often he condemns such acts. But Sharpton remains stuck in a narrative where New York is 1960s Alabama and our cops are all Bull Connors.

Yet Mayor de Blasio has treated him as though he were the second coming of Martin Luther King, Jr. President Obama has him down to the White House where he is treated as a civil-rights leader.

And when a Sony exec makes some racially insensitive remarks in an e-mail, it’s the Rev. Al she ends up apologizing to.
